10 Reasons We Love Love’s Travel Stops

The Oklahoma-based gas station and convenience store is a sight for sore eyes on long car rides.

travel stop loves

We’ve all been there. You’re five hours into an eight-hour car ride , or maybe you’ve only made it an hour from your house, but already everyone is getting restless. Someone needs to go to the bathroom. Someone spilled the box of Cheez-its, so you’re running dangerously low on snacks. The driver needs a caffeine fix, and Fido looks like he’s about ready to jump out the window. That’s when you see it—that familiar bright yellow sign topped with a beating red heart. There’s a Love’s at the next exit that’s about to solve all your road trip woes. Here are 10 reasons why we’ll always brake for a Love’s Travel Stop and why we can’t get enough of this Southern-born franchise.

Courtesy of Love's Travel Stops

1. It’s owned by a Southern family.

Tom and Judy Love started Love’s in 1964 when they spent $5,000 to lease an abandoned service station in Watonga, Oklahoma. Though Tom passed away in 2023 at the age of 85, the nationwide franchise is still privately owned and run by the Love family.

2. There’s always a Love’s right when you need one.

With about 600 travel stops in 42 states, nearly every highway in the U.S. is blessed with a Love’s. This means that no matter where you’re driving in the South—even if you’ve gotten really deep in the sticks—you’re likely to find a Love’s stocked and waiting to welcome you in.

3. Their road trip snacks are elite.

The one redeeming quality of a long car ride (other than a great playlist) are the snacks . Like any convenience store, Love’s has a huge selection of packaged snacks—chips, sunflower seeds, Little Debbie cakes, beef jerky, the whole nine yards. But the real star of the show at a Love’s is their company-branded candy line, which includes everything from gummy bears and peach rings to frosted heart pretzels and saltwater taffy.

4. They’re always open.

Driving late into the night? Love’s is open. What about those wee hours of the morning? They’re open then, too. There’s something about a 3 a.m. Coke and peanuts that just hits different.

5. It’s a great place to stretch your legs.

After long hours spent cramped in the car, your legs may be itching to move. Love’s is a great place to stop because the store is so big that you’ll have plenty to peruse while you walk the life back into your aching limbs.

6. You can have a meal there.

Hundreds of Love’s locations are paired with fast-food favorites like Arby’s, Dairy Queen, Burger King, Hardee’s, and Bojangles. But even if there’s no dining partner, Love’s has its own line of hot sandwiches and tacos (for breakfast and lunch), as well as a roller grill that features hot dogs and smoked sausages, as well as their signature Tornados taquitos in flavors like Ranchero Beef Steak and Southwestern-Style Chicken.

7. They give back to the community.

Giving generously is a huge part of the Love’s company culture. The franchise donates to nonprofits in Oklahoma and beyond, including Teach for America, Operation Homefront, and the United Way of Central Oklahoma. In addition, all locations donate a part of their budget to a local nonprofit of their choice, and Love’s participates in the Children’s Miracle Network. To date, Love’s has raised more than $33 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

8. They think of everything.

There’s a lot more to a Love’s Travel Stop than just gas and snacks. Locations across the country offer truck care, RV parking and hookups, laundry facilities, and even private showers.

9. Dogs are welcome.

Not only does Love’s accommodate humans, but it takes care of their furry friends, too. Many Love’s locations feature dog parks and pet waste station.

10. You’ll find plenty of clean restrooms.

The number one reason to stop on a road trip? Someone’s got to go. Rather than pressing your luck on a small-town gas station, count on Love’s to provide clean restrooms without a line.

Great but needs improvement

Overall I have virtually no complaints. It does what it sets out to do for truckers to make things easier while on the road and in the store. That being said the app has one MAJOR issue that should be a priority in fixing. The app doesn’t seem to have full support in push notifications for showers. Several times I’m been waiting in que for the shower and while I’m doing something else I’ll get a notification that the shower expired, but no notification before that my shower was ready???? This is getting annoying. Most times it’s not an inconvenience but the times that it’s late or there’s 7+ guys ahead of me the first time I was in line it’s gets infuriating pretty quickly. LOVES please fix this issue.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for reaching out. We want to troubleshoot this crash with you, but we'll need some more information. Please email us at [email protected] and request they send on to the Love's Connect mobile app team. We'll work through how to get you up and running with the app.

Doesn’t Work

First you broke the login system on the app where my login worked just fine to where I had to sign in with my card and pin, which the app refuses to allow and tells me to call customer service as though they can fix what the developers broke. Second, you precede to brake the website as well, so now you won’t let me login to either the site or the app. Why can’t just use our email addresses and passwords as at least an option to login instead like normal people using a normal app or website providing a normal service. What the heck? I’ve already complained about this several times with you blocking my card and pin from being able to login to your broken app, then you break the website too. Now I’m running blind without knowing if I have points or shower credits. Loves, please fire these fresh out of app boot camp millennials and hire real, experienced developers to fix what they’ve broken. I can’t even use your service anymore. This has been going on for far too long. I’m very disappointed in Love’s upper management’s lack of over-site into what the tech department keeps breaking.
We appreciate your feedback, Scott. The app update introduced new pay features, which required a more secure sign in process. You may select "Sign In" from the Home screen and then tap “I don’t have a PIN,” which guides you through signing in with your email and password. If this doesn't help, we’re happy to assist with any additional issues you are encountering. You can reach our Support Team at [email protected].

Love Loves - add more RV features

We have just started traveling in our camper van and have discovered Love’s as newbies. We have stopped at about 8 travel centers and overnighted at 3 that have RV facilities. We have found them to be universally clean as can be, the staff friendly and helpful and the showers are spotless. The sites had good water pressure, electric and one even had sewer hookup. As for the app, it needs to be enhanced to support the RV parks better. My suggestions: 1) add a section where I can find my past and upcoming visits, 2) allow me to reserve showers for more than just myself, so I can make shower reservations for both of at the same time, 3) add a place where I could see what is available in a travel center store, so we know what is there, especially regarding things like tools and other RV equipment.
Thanks for sharing your feedback! We'll look into incorporating RV support in our app based on your suggestions. Please email us at [email protected] if you have any additional suggestions or need assistance.

Love’s, Speedco Offer Tire and DOT Inspection Discounts

By Kevin McIntyre | April 24, 2024

Share

Love’s Travel Stops has announced discounts on select services next month in preparation for the CVSA International Roadcheck. During the month of May, more than 430 Love’s Truck Care and Speedco locations will offer half-off Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections and $80 off per tire when purchasing Yokohama tires.

The locations also offer free visual inspections year-round with any service.

“Getting pulled over during a time of heavy DOT enforcement can be costly and time consuming, and we want to help prevent that while keeping drivers safe,” said Eric Daniels, Love’s vice president of total truck care. “Our DOT inspection and tire deals are just another way we’re providing more value for customers while they’re keeping a close eye on their expenses.”

The CVSA International Roadcheck takes place May 14-16, as CVSA-certified officials prepare to inspect commercial motor vehicles and drivers across North America. This year’s Roadcheck enforcement will focus on tractor protections systems and alcohol and controlled substance possession.

Through partnerships with Daimler Truck North America and Navistar, Love’s Truck Care and Speedco network is the exclusive light mechanical warranty repair provider for Freightliner and International trucks. More information can be found on the company’s website.

Headquartered in Oklahoma City with more than 40,000 employees in North America and Europe, Love’s core business is travel stops and convenience stores with 643 locations in 42 states.

The Most Beautiful Stations on the Moscow Metro

travel stop loves

You might have heard that there are some beautiful metro stations in Moscow. Soviet decorations, chandeliers, mosaic painting and statues are common in many of the stations. The good news is that the Moscow Metro does not cost a lot of money and many of the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro are on the same line, so you can almost get on and off at each station to visit these. Over the New Year holidays, I had a free afternoon and decided to visit some of these stations. Check out what I found below…..

The main stations that you will want to visit are on the Number 5 line, also known as the Circle Line. An advantage of this line is that you can get to it very easily and quickly no matter where you are in Moscow. The announcements on the metro are in Russian as well as English so you don’t need to worry if your Russian language skills are not good.

If, like me, you arrive in Moscow via train from Kyiv , then you will arrive at a metro station which many Muscovites believe to be the most beautiful of them all…..

Kievskaya metro station was opened in 1954 and features white marble walls which curve upwards and have with large mosaics surrounded by a gold trim in a very classical style. The mosaics depict life in Ukraine and was designed by a Ukrainian who wanted to display Ukraine’s influence and contribution to Soviet Russia.

If you look at a map of the metro , you will want to go in a clockwise direction on the circle line. So you will want to get on the train going in the Barrikadnaya direction and not Park Kultury. Stay on this line until you reach the 2nd station, Belorusskaya. This station was built in 1952 and like Kievskaya also features white marble pylons and a plaster ceiling.

The ceiling features 12 mosaics in an octagonal shape depicting Belarusian life, while the tiling on the floor is said to resemble a Belarusian quilt. One of the passageway exits of the station has a statue called ‘Belarusian Partisans’ of three men wearing long coats, holding guns and carrying a flag.”

Mayakovskaya

To get to the next station, we need to change onto the green line (line 2) and go just one stop to the station of Mayakovskaya. This station has an art deco theme and, for some, resembles an elaborate ballroom. The columns are faced with stainless steel and pink rhodonite while the marble walls and ceiling have 34 mosaics with the theme “24-hour Soviet Sky. Apparently, Stalin resided here during the 2nd World War as the station was used as a command post for Moscow’s anti-aircraft regiment.

It’s time to get back on the metro and return to Belorusskaya. At Belorusskaya, change to the circle line again and continue clockwise to the next station, Novoslobodskaya. With its 32 stained glass panels, this station reminds me of a church. The panels were designed by Latvian artists and are surrounded by a brass border.

Prospekt Mira

Back on the metro and again just one stop until our next station, Prospekt Mira. This station was originally called Botanichesky Sad after the nearby Botanical Gardens of the Moscow State University. The pylons are covered in white marble and decorated with floral bas-relief friezes. The ceiling is decorated with casts and several cylindrical chandeliers.

Komsomolskaya

On the metro once more and once more we are going just one stop to the next station – Komsomolskaya. This station is famous for its its yellow ceiling. The chandeliers in this station are huge. The photos below do not do this station justice.  For me, this station resembles a presidential palace.  You hace to see it for yourself to truly appreciate it.

Because of it’s location, this is one of the busiest stations in the Moscow metro as it serves three of the main train stations in the city – Leningradsky, Yaroslavsky, and Kazansky so be prepared for a lot of people.

Elektrozavodskaya

When you are ready to leave Komsomolskaya metro station behind, then get back on the circle line and go one stop to Kurskaya and change to the blue line (line 3) and go to two stops to the Elektrozavodskaya station. This station gets it’s name from a nearby electric light bulb factory and has a somewhat industrial but also futuristic style, with 6 rows of circular lamps (there are 318 lamps in total). I think this is one of the most beautiful stations on the Moscow metro for how unique it is. The station was opened in 1944 after a delay because of the 2nd World War and features 12 marble bas-reliefs of the struggle on the home front during the war.

Ploschad Revolyutsii

Back on the metro line 3 (but in the other direction), getting off at the 3rd stop – Ploschad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square). This is located underneath the square in Moscow of the same name and is a short walk from Red Square in the city centre. It is the perfect place to end a visit around Moscow’s metro. The station features red and yellow marble arches with a total of 76 sculptures in between each arch. The sculptures are supposed to represent the people of the Soviet Union and include soldiers, farmers, industrial workers, children etc… I noticed a lot of people touching the golden chicken in the photo below as well as the show of the woman. I am assuming that this is for good luck.

Kievskaya definitely caught me off guard. Didn’t know Moscow metro stations were THIS extravagant! Mayakovskaya is gorgeous too with the marble walls and mosaics. I might just need to book a flight over to admire all of these!

Do it! Kievskaya was my first introduction to the Moscow metro as I got an overnight train from Kyiv.

You know, in the States, all we ever hear is bad stuff about Russia. It’s nice to see other (and lovely!) dimensions of such a controversial place.

It’s the same in the UK which is why I prefer going to see somewhere and making up my own mind. It’s all ‘politics and bullshit’ as I say

' src=

I went to Moscow about 13years for Christmas and went to train stations, so I can see these amazing mosaics and chandeliers. I agree with you that are beautiful Stations for sure and I could of wandered around for days. I think Kievskaya is definitely my favourite out of them all and I even have some similar pictures as you.

I imagine Moscow would have been a little different 13 years ago but these stations have probably always looked beautiful

You chose some great stations for this write up! Beautiful details in these stations and would love to visit them sometime. Particularly like the Komsomolskaya station with that yellow ceiling!

Thank you very much. Komsomolskaya seems to be a lot of peoples favourite stations too

Wow! Without the text I would have thought them to be some museum or gallery.

I know exactly what you mean!

Wow, it is just stunning! How does anyone get to work with so much to look at. I’m surprised at the very bourgeois-looking Komsomolskaya station. I would have thought it was all too Tzarist looking, but then I haven’t been to Russia yet lol. This has just made me want to go more!

' src=

Wow, that’s a lot of artwork. I wonder how old some of these pieces are?

Generally most of the stations are from 1940-1960 approximately. The later stations are more functional than style.

' src=

My mother-in-law was in Moscow fifty years ago and still raves about the metro stations. So far, I could not imagine much. But now! The pictures are great and I think it’s almost a pity that this splendor is underground. But for every user of the Metro can enjoy a free trip to the world of art. Susanne

True. It is like having a free trip to an art museum/gallery. I hope that you can one day visit Moscow and see for yourself.

' src=

Oh wow, I would never have known that these were metro stations. The ceilings remind me of how you need to look up sometimes, even in the commuter rush!

It is true about life in general, we just go from A to B looking directly in front of us instead of around us

' src=

Wow, I would have never guessed that these were stations. The decor is so pretty and not one I’m used to seeing at metro stations. Love the ceiling at The Komsomolskaya metro station.

They certainly don’t look like metro stations. The ceiling there is one of my favourites too!

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro

2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video

The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.

The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.

Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.

The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.

Toby Keith to receive another posthumous honor as OU announces list of honorary degrees

NORMAN — Country music superstar Toby Keith will be recognized posthumously with an honorary degree from the University of Oklahoma at one of OU’s graduation ceremonies next month, the university said Monday.

OU also will recognize with honorary degrees educator Barbara Ann Posey Jones, of Atlanta; the late Tom Love , the founder of Love’s Travel Stops; and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient David Proctor. OU will confer the degrees for Love and Jones on May 10, while Keith and Proctor will be recognized during a May 11 ceremony. Both ceremonies will take place at Lloyd Noble Center.

“Through their exceptional talents, transformative leadership and unwavering commitment to serving others, each of this year’s honorary degree recipients has left an indelible mark on the world,” said OU President Joseph Harroz. “Their profound dedication has touched countless lives, and we take great pride in conferring the university’s highest honor upon them.”

The honorary degree is the latest posthumous honor from OU for Keith, who died on Feb. 5 at age 62 from stomach cancer. Keith long was known as a diehard fan of the Sooners and could often be seen on the sidelines of Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium during football games or sitting along the baseline at Lloyd Noble Center during basketball games. When the OU softball team won its third straight national championship last June, Keith was on the field at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium, celebrating with players and coaches.

During OU’s Feb. 6 men's basketball game against Brigham Young, the university honored Keith as athletic director Joe Castiglione stood behind Keith’s seat. On the seat were a guitar, an OU ballcap and a red Solo cup — an homage to one of Keith’s most popular songs. At the OU spring football game on Saturday, a “TOBY” logo was painted on the 25-yard-line on Owen Field.

Keith was born in 1961 in the western Oklahoma city of Clinton. He graduated from Moore High School, and a street that runs in front of that school in the Oklahoma City suburb is named for Keith. Keith did not attend college.

As a musician, Keith had more than 60 songs hit the Billboard country chart, with 20 hitting No. 1 and 22 others making the top-10. His chart-toppers include "Should've Been a Cowboy," “How Do You Like Me Now?!,” “I Wanna Talk About Me” and “Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue (The Angry American)." The song “Red Solo Cup” crossed over onto the Billboard pop chart and reached No. 15, giving him his biggest hit in that genre.

Keith was inducted into the New York-based all-genre Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He received the BMI Icon award, and he was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame shortly before his death.

Through his Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic, launched in 2004, he helped raise a total of $18 million for nonprofits, including OK Kids Korral, a cost-free home for children and families seeking treatment for life-threatening illnesses.
