Best Travel Trailers Under 6,000 Pounds

Top 6 Travel Trailers Under 6,000 lbs for 2024!

Aaron Richardson

  • Last Updated: March 18, 2024
  • 15 minutes read

When it comes to travel trailers a gross weight rating of 6,000-pounds or less tends to be the breaking point for what a robust mid-size SUV can safely pull at highway speeds.

This makes modest-weight travel trailers a high priority for families that don’t want to take on the additional investment of pickup truck just to tow their favorite travel trailer with them on summer vacations.

Of course, RV manufacturers are keen on the popularity of these models and have been quick to flood the market with a staggering array of options.

This can understandably leave you scratching your head wondering what is the best travel trailer under 6,000-pounds for my family?

Two of the most popular options are the Winnebago – Hike H172BH and the Jayco – Jay Feather Micro 166FBS.

Though if you have a larger family, who needs extra sleeping and elbow room then the Palomino – Puma XLE Lite 22RBC might be the best travel trailer under 6,000-pounds to meet your needs.

It seemed pretty clear to us that it was time to take a deeper dive into this crowded niche to help find the best travel trailers under 6,000-pounds to meet a family’s needs.

This included looking at models that are geared for niche interests like boondocking or keeping you comfortable in cool temperatures.

Important Towing Weight Terms

Important Towing Weight Terms

starts with getting you familiarized with some key terminology to make sure that your tow vehicle can safely pull the travel trailer you fall in love with.

Being mindful of these terms can make all the difference between a safe towing experience and a potentially vacation-ruining accident on the road.

This is the weight that the travel trailer weighs when it is completely empty.

Sometimes referred to as the curb weight, you need to be mindful that a travel trailer with a dry weight under 6,000-pounds, might be loaded with gear that will put it above the safe maximum towing capacity of your intended tow vehicle.

Payload Capacity

Sometimes referred to as “Cargo Capacity” this is the travel trailer manufacturer’s estimated storage capacity that the frame and suspension can handle.

If you add up the weight of your cookware, clothes, and other camping equipment, it should have a total weight that is less than the rated payload capacity.

This number is then added to the dry weight to assess the final gross weight of the travel trailer before you ever connect the tongue to the hitch of your tow vehicle.

It stands for “Gross Vehicle Weight Rating” which indicates the final weight of the travel trailer when you add the dry weight to the maximum payload capacity.

When it comes to towing safety and handling the gross weight of your travel trailer is the most important figure to compare against your tow vehicle’s towing specifications.

Hitch Or Tongue Weight

This is the amount of weight that the tongue of the travel trailer applies to the hitch and rear suspension system of your tow vehicle.

Maximum Towing Capacity

This is you’re the maximum amount of weight that the manufacturer estimates your vehicle can safely tow.

It is factored in by the chassis, engine, transmission, and suspension system.

Pushing or exceeding this limit can leave you at risk for serious mechanical failure while towing or a dangerous trailer sway accident while driving at unsafe highway speeds.

6 Of The Best Travel Trailers Under 6,000 Pounds

During our selection process, we kept a keen eye out for travel trailers weighing under 6,000 pounds that had a reputation for material build quality, as well as the features that families prioritized.

This included choosing models that are more geared toward certain travel styles and niche interests.

  • Prime Time – Avenger 17FQS
  • Winnebago – Hike H172BH
  • Jayco – Jay Feather Micro 166FBS
  • Keystone – Outback Ultra-Lite 210URS
  • K-Z – Sportsmen Classic 190BH
  • Palomino – Puma XLE Lite 22RBC

1. The Prime Time – Avenger 17FQS

Prime Time – Avenger 17FQS

  • Length 21.58 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 3,014 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 841 lbs.
  • GVWR of 3,855 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 355 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 31.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 30.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 30.0 gallons
  • Sleeps up to 4 people

The Prime Time – Avenger 17FQS is a lightweight travel trailer under 6,000-pounds that is geared for a traveling couple or a small family.

With a dry weight of just 3,014-pounds and a gross vehicle weight rating of 3,855-pounds, it is comfortable within range of what most midsize SUVs with a tow package can confidently pull.

When you factor in the 841-pound cargo capacity, and the queen-size master bed in the front, this lightweight travel trailer lets two or three people bring everything they need with them on their RV adventure. All without taxing your tow vehicle.

The interior layout of the Prime Time – Avenger 17FQS is as thoughtful as it is convenient.

The front queen size bed and the dinette in the slide-out section both have good views of the entertainment center.

While this might not sound like a big deal on paper, it is one of those little things that is annoyingly absent in smaller travel trailers like this that tend to wedge a flatscreen TV into head-scratching places.

2. The Winnebago – Hike H172BH

Winnebago – Hike H172BH

  • Length 20.62 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 3,400 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 600 lbs.
  • GVWR of 4,000 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 620 lbs.
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 25.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 25.0 gallons
  • Sleeps up to 6 people

The Winnebago – Hike H172BH tips the scales with a weight of just 4,000-pounds, which is comfortably towable by most mid-size SUVs with a towing package installed.

Translates into a 600-pound payload capacity to bring all your essential camping gear with you, while still enjoying the lightweight towing characteristics of a travel trailer under 6,000-pounds.

The somewhat unique interior layout of the Winnebago – Hike H172BH is one of the things that helps it save on weight.

The rear has a pair of spacious bunk beds, with a midship bathroom, kitchen, and water storage tanks, which does a great job of balancing the gross weight firmly over the wheels.

In the front of the Winnebago – Hike H172BH, there is a U-shaped dinette that converts into a full-size bed. It is perfectly positioned to let everyone in the family watch TV while they eat.

When you also factor in the large bunk beds in the rear it might make this the best travel trailer under 6,000-pounds for a single parent with teenage children.

3. The Jayco – Jay Feather Micro 166FBS

Jayco - Jay Feather Micro 166FBS

  • Length 19.67 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 3,990 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,005 lbs.
  • GVWR of 4,995 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 480 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 55.0 gallons

The Jay Feather platform is one of Jayco’s most successful travel trailer lineups. The Jayco – Jay Feather Micro 166FBS is a lightweight little brother.

With a gross vehicle weight rating of just under 5,000-pounds, it is still infused with comfort features and the kind of towing statistics that most robust mid-size SUVs can confidently tow.

If your tow vehicle is a little more challenged when it comes to the maximum towing capacity, you could travel from Point A to Point B with the large waste and fresh water storage tanks empty.

If you are staying at an RV park or a campground with access to resources and dump facilities, you can then fill up as needed while still being able to travel light.

When you take a tour of the interior of the Jayco – Jay Feather Micro 166FBS you find a full-size bed in the front and a jackknife sofa built into the single power slide-out.

This means that the travel trailer can technically sleep up to four people, but a couple with a single child is more likely the real-world limit for this travel trailer under 6,000-pounds.

4. The Keystone – Outback Ultra-Lite 210URS

Keystone - Outback Ultra-Lite 210URS

  • Length 23 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 4,670 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,830 lbs.
  • GVWR of 6,500 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 485 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 60.0 gallons
  • Sleeps up to 8 people

The Keystone – Outback Ultra-Lite 210URS has a dry weight of just 4,670-pounds and an impressive payload capacity of up to 1,830-pounds.

This means that if you pack this trailer to the max and fill the tanks it can tip the scales with a gross weight of up to 6,500-pounds, which might push the limits of what all but the most robust mid-size SUVs and light-duty pickup trucks can safely tow.

If you are mindful about how much gear you load into this travel trailer and you travel with the tanks empty, then it will cruise down the road closer to 5,000 to 5,500-pounds.

When you get to your campground or RV park, you can set up and fill the large 60-gallon fresh water storage tank without worrying about the impact on your tow vehicle’s hitch or suspension system.

What you are treated to on the interior of the Keystone – Outback Ultra-Lite 210URS is tons of sleeping space and creature comforts that are high on a lot of family’s priority list.

This starts with an expandable king-size bed in the rear, as well as a sofa sleeper, convertible dinette booth, and a pair of flip-down bunk beds in the nose. This translates into the ability to sleep up to 8 people on pair, or 6 in the real world.

Taking all of the sleeping space, bathroom, and compact, yet functional kitchen into account the Keystone – Outback Ultra-Lite 210URS might be the best travel trailer under 6,000-pounds for a large family that loves to travel light.

5. The K-Z – Sportsmen Classic 190BH

K-Z - Sportsmen Classic 190BH

  • Length 23.25 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 3,260 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,740 lbs.
  • GVWR of 5,000 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 360 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 20.0 gallons
  • Sleeps up to 5 people

With a gross vehicle weight rating of up to 5,000 pounds and tons of storage capacity the K-Z – Sportsmen Classic 190BH is a great travel trailer under 6,000-pounds for a small family that doesn’t want to invest in a large pickup truck.

You can rest assured that even if you jam-pack the front pass-through storage bay and the interior with up to 1,740-pounds of gear that it still won’t exceed the 5,000-pound mark.

Though part of the tradeoff for this impressive weight rating and massive cargo storage capacity is that the K-Z – Sportsmen Classic 190BH has relatively small fresh and wastewater storage tanks. Of course, this is a non-issue if you plan to stay at RV parks and campgrounds with easy access to resources close at hand.

Though you might want to move this lightweight travel trailer down your list if you are thinking about using the “Sportsmen Classic” for something like boondocking at a remote fall hunting base camp on public land.

On the interior of the K-Z – Sportsmen Classic 190BH you will find a queen-size bed in the front, a convertible dinette in the middle and a pair of tidy bunk beds tucked along with size a complete dry bath in the rear.

With all this in mind the K-Z – Sportsmen Classic 190BH might be one of the best travel trailers under 6,000-pounds for a family with small children, who love to stay at popular RV parks.

6. The Palomino – Puma XLE Lite 22RBC

Palomino - Puma XLE Lite 22RBC

  • Length 25.83 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 4,243 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,557 lbs.
  • GVWR of 5,800 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 435 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 43.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 34.5 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 34.5 gallons

The Palomino – Puma XLE Lite 22RBC tips the scales with a gross vehicle weight rating of up to 5,800-pounds.

It also has an impressive payload capacity of up to 1,557 pounds, which lets a family take all their essential gear with them, while still keeping the total weight of their travel trailer under 6,000-pounds.

The fresh and wastewater storage tanks in the Palomino – Puma XLE Lite 22RBC offer a modest volume.

If you want to stay off the grid for a few days, you can still travel with the tanks full and stay under 6,000-pounds. This is somewhat rare in a travel trailer under 26-feet long.

The interior of the Palomino – Puma XLE Lite 22RBC is compact, yet spacious for a travel trailer without a retractable slide-out section.

On paper, it can sleep up to 8 people though five is more realistic. Especially if you have teenagers.

Though the dual 48” X 76” bunk beds in the back give older children their own personal space and room to spread out.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can i safely tow.

The prevailing wisdom is that you should never attempt to pull more than 80% of your tow vehicle’s rated maximum towing capacity.

This will give you 20% of power in reserve for doing things like merging into highway traffic, passing slow motorists, and pulling the travel trailer up a steep incline.

Does The Cargo Balance Affect Hitch Weight?

Most travel trailers are designed with storage areas that bias the weight toward the front. This helps keep weight on the essential tongue & hitch connection.

Though it is possible to accidentally overpack too much camping gear in the back of your travel trailer, which can leave it feeling unbalanced when you drive down the road.

If your travel trailer’s gross weight pushes near the 80% safe towing limit of your vehicle, you should be increasingly mindful of a cargo weight distribution that is biased toward the front and directly over the wheel arches.

There are a lot of great travel trailers under 6,000-pounds that are within the reasonable towing statistics of most mid-size to full-size SUVs.

Being mindful of the difference between the unloaded dry weight and the fully-loaded GVWR is essential for making sure you are staying within your vehicle’s rated maximum towing capacity.

Once you have all the numbers in order, the best travel trailer under 6,000-pounds that meets your needs will come down to the size of your family as well as your preferred RV lifestyle.

On the light end of the spectrum, the Prime Time – Avenger 17FQS might be the best travel trailer under 6,000-pounds for a traveling couple or a small family with an only child. Its gross weight rating of 3,855 puts it comfortably in the range of what a lot of mid-size SUVs can tow. While still having an interior that provides plenty of elbow room.

If you are a single parent who wants to give your children their own space, but still enjoys family togetherness, then the Winnebago – Hike H172BH might be the best travel trailer under 6,000-pounds to meet your needs. It only weighs 4,000-pounds when it’s fully loaded, yet can sleep two teenagers and an adult comfortably.

If you have a robust mid-size SUV with a tow package or a full-size SUV, and you are thoughtful about your packing, then the Keystone – Outback Ultra-Lite 210URS might be the best travel trailer with a dry weight under 6,000-pounds. Just be mindful that it is possible to overpack this model up to 6,500-pounds, which might mean upping the ante on your tow vehicle.

Updated March 27, 2024

I am asked all the time for recommendations for the best travel trailers under 5000 lbs. So here is my answer, which is sure to help you find a model that is perfect for you.

If you are looking for a travel trailer that you can tow with a small truck or even some larger SUVs, there are many travel trailers under 5,000 lbs to choose from. We have investigated hundreds of lightweight travel trailers to find the very best ones on the market today.

After all – this is a big part of what we do at RVBlogger. We have toured and reviewed RVs to produce written reviews and YouTube video reviews of RVs and campers for over five years now!

In addition to our opinion of these travel trailers, we provide links to check ratings and reviews from folks who own these camper trailers so you get the best info before deciding if one of these travel trailers is for you.

Our list of the ten best travel trailers under 5,000 pounds will give you some great ideas to start your search!

How We Chose The Top 2024 Travel Trailers Under 5000 Lbs

When we started looking for the 12 best travel trailers under 5000 lbs there were a lot of options to choose from. There are dozens of RV manufacturers in the United States, and many of them have stellar reputations.

As a result, it can be difficult to narrow down the field. However, there were a few factors we were able to look at to help us figure out what we thought were the 12 best travel trailers under 5000 lbs.

The first thing we did was look at the unloaded vehicle weight or dry weight. This is the weight of the vehicle when nothing has been loaded into it. It is the weight of the vehicle once the manufacturer has finished building it and nothing has been added to it.

Obviously, for these types of trailers, we were looking at options that weighed less than 5000 pounds. Many RVs and trailers weigh more than this, so we were able to narrow down the field significantly with this one factor.

After we found trailers that fit the weight specifications, we looked at other features that came with the trailers. For example, we looked for trailers that have bunkhouses and Murphy beds. Murphy beds are some of the best beds for travel trailers. And we wrote an article about them called 11 Best Travel Trailers with Murphy Beds .

We looked at floor plans, the overall quality of the trailers, and reviews from other credible sources. This way we could know for sure that these trailers were received well by consumers.

Travel Trailer UVW vs GVWR

We use the UVW or Unloaded Vehicle Weight to decide which campers fit into our category of best campers under 5000 lbs. Unloaded vehicle weight is also known as curb weight or dry weight. It is the weight of the camper trailer with nothing in it.

GVWR or Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is the maximum allowable weight of the camper when loaded with all of your supplies, groceries, water, generator, or anything else you decide to pack into your camper.

So be sure your tow vehicle can tow more than 5,000 lbs if you are considering one of these models.

12 Best Travel Trailers Under 5000 lbs : 2024 Models

Here they are our list of travel trailers under 5000 lbs for 2024. We’re sure there will be something on this list for you!

1. Oliver Legacy Elite

Oliver Legacy Elite travel trailers under 5000 lbs exterior

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Sold factory-direct, so you get Oliver-specific components and accessories

⛔ Interior aesthetic is very sterile

  • Length: 18′ 5″
  • UVW: 3,700 lbs
  • GVWR: 5,000 lbs
  • CCC: 1,300 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 370 lbs

The first of our travel trailers under 5000 lbs on the list is the Oliver Legacy Elite , a niche camper with a dedicated fanbase. Oliver Campers aren’t known for their variety (there are only a few models, with a ton of customization options). The Legacy Elite is a boondocking machine, if you want it to be.

Everything that comes with or is available for Oliver campers is factory-direct, so you’re limited on third-party accessorizing as everything you want or need comes from Oliver. As you can imagine, this enables the company to have so many customization options that two camper lines feel like forty.

The Legacy Elite is built with four fiberglass shells (two inner and two outer), fused together, with interior cabinetry molded into the fiberglass. This fiberglass bubble takes 400 hours to make and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. It’s one of the strongest travel trailers you’re likely to find on the market.

Inside, the Legacy Elite is like Airstream, with an interior that matches the exterior aesthetic. I love the interior feature including the wet bath, multiple bedding options, sink, and stovetop.

Everything has its own compartment, including the batteries and propane tank control. These trailers are known for towing very well, thanks to their slick, aerodynamic profiles.

Susan and I visited the Fiberglass RV Rally in November 2023 and met many proud Oliver Elite owners who absolutely love their campers!

For more information, check out the Oliver Trailer Reviews on the Oliver website. You can also check out Oliver Travel Trailers’ Facebook page , where you will find some helpful info from Oliver’s owners.

There is a private Facebook Group called Oliver Trailer Owners for people who own or are interested in owning an Oliver Travel Trailer. You have to request to join the group but this is a great place to ask Oliver owners about their experience and recommendations.

2. Airstream Bambi

Airstream Bambi travel trailers under 5000 lbs exterior

✅ Despite the space limits, includes a 2-burner stove, sink, fridge, freezer, shower, and flushing toilet

⛔ There are space concessions for the shower, which makes for a very cramped space

  • Length: 16′ 1″
  • UVW: 3,050 lbs
  • GVWR: 3,500 lbs
  • CCC: 450 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 450 lbs

We have walked through Airstream Bambi models from 2020 through 2024 and they are awesome travel trailers in my opinion.

Airstream is one of the most instantly recognizable brands in the business. Their smaller line of travel trailers under 5000 lbs includes the Bambi , Sport, and Basecamp. Airstream is embracing the ideal of micro-living and it shows in their exceptional and growing lineup of small travel trailers.

The Bambi resembles a traditional Airstream in a much smaller format. I think the best part about this shrinking effort is that Airstream still manages to pack so much into a smaller space, while still retaining a sense of spaciousness in the design.

Inside, the Bambi looks like what you expect in an Airstream, with aluminum walls and overhead. Several adults will fit comfortably in the smallest Bambi model. The wet bath is a tight fit and probably the most constrained space in the entire package.

Everything else you’ll need for a long-term trip or boondocking out in the middle of nowhere is present. This includes the two-burner stove, a four-person dinette, a fridge and freezer, a large bed, a sink, and more than enough windows to light up the interior on a sunny day. Despite its small size, the Airstream Bambi is as comfortable as it gets.

A great way to research this camper is to check out some reviews from actual Bambi owners. This is how we learn about RVs too!

A great place to talk to actual Airstream Bambi owners is the private facebook group called BAMBI & CARAVEL AIRSTREAM OWNERS AND LOVERS . Just request to join the group and ask any questions you like!

Another great place to learn about Airstreams is Airstream Forums . Forums are a great place to ask questions and receive answers from actual Airstream owners.

3. Starcraft Super Lite Maxx

Starcraft Super Lite Maxx travel trailers under 5000 lbs exterior

✅ The rear bathroom features a large corner tub/shower

⛔ It has a space-efficient but very ordinary layout

  • Length: 20′ 7″
  • UVW: 3,685 lbs
  • GVWR: 4,995 lbs
  • CCC: 1,130 lbs

The Starcraft Super Lite Maxx comes in four floorplans and they are all just as small as the model name implies. Don’t let the size fool you, however. These models are clearly designed with couples in mind and Starcraft did an outstanding job in such a small format.

We love The TuffShell fiberglass exterior is a highly resilient, vacuum-bonded, shell over an aluminum frame. It also comes with an enclosed, heated undercarriage for trips throughout the cold months. The focus of the Maxx clearly extends beyond what Starcraft can do with a small interior.

If you enjoy lounging outside, the Maxx has a lot to offer, including a hookup for a grill, a power awning, and wiring prep for a variety of outdoor peripherals.

Inside is standard fare, though it’s well made and arranged. The rear bathroom is a dry bath and it’s larger than the overall size of the camper suggests.

Residential vinyl flooring and the entire suite of entertainment and kitchen features are enough to turn this tiny space into a comfortable home away from home.

To obtain information about Starcraft campers, check out the Starcraft RV Owners Forum and the Starcraft Rv Owners private Facebook Group.

4. Jayco Jay Feather Micro

Jayco Jay Feather Micro travel trailers under 5000 lbs exterior

✅ Comes with an excellent outdoor Blackstone Griddle

⛔ Lacking in the window department

  • Length: 19′ 7″
  • UVW: 3,895 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 415 lbs

We are impressed with Jayco’s full pre-delivery inspections, which are a sign that Jayco is striving for quality out the door.

The Jay Feather Micro is a high-quality product in a tiny package. Though it’s a little larger than some of the other travel trailers under 5,000 lbs on this list, the design is an obvious play for couples or maybe one-child families.

There are several options available for the interior appliances, but all of the standard features a couple needs are included, such as theater seating and a surprising amount of counter space.

We really like all of the windows, and the overall interior aesthetic has that welcome home vibe that some RVs have difficulty replicating.

The Murphy Bed is a short queen but it’s perfect for expanding the space when not in use. We are seeing more travel trailer manufacturers than ever using Murphy Beds to maximize the floor space through this multi-functional feature.

Outside, the 11′ awning is more than enough to shade a small family, with pass-through storage and a Blackstone Griddle. Also, Jayco’s Azdel wall materials are highly rated for long-term durability and the Feather Micro comes with a two-year warranty (an additional year added on for structure).

Some great resources to help you find ratings, reviews, tips, and advice from Jayco trailer owners are the Jayco RV Owners Forum and the Jayco Feather Micro Owners Group , which is a private Facebook Group.

5. Keystone Passport Mini

Keystone Passport Mini travel trailers under 5000 lbs exterior

✅ The HyperDeck high-performance, the water-resistant floor is excellent

⛔ Bunkhouse model feels a bit cramped, especially if you have all 6 sleepers

  • Length: 21′ 5″
  • UVW: 3,485 lbs
  • GVWR: 4,825 lbs
  • CCC: 1,340 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 425 lbs

Sleeping 6 and a Mini camper just don’t seem to mesh. However, the Keystone Passport Mini made it happen somehow, with plenty of room to spare.

There’s more than one floorplan here, but the above floorplan is the bunkhouse model, and you can see how much space is left over, even with a full house.

This is not an easy feat in travel trailers under 5000 lbs, and Keystone did make a few concessions. Fortunately, they are barely noticeable in a rig that contains a full dry bath, fridge, large sink, microwave, and stovetop across from a four-person dinette and TV.

There’s not much in the way of counter space, the result of doing the most within a small space. We think the storage options and cabinetry are more than adequate for six people.

The exterior awning is powered, and you also have access to pass-through storage, a 20-lb propane tank, and quick connections for solar panels. All of the exterior panels feature strong magnetic clasps.

To learn more about the Keystone Mini visit the private Facebook Group called Keystone Passport Trailer Owners . Another great resource is the Keystone RV Forum , where you can post questions and get answers from other Keystone Passport owners.

6. Winnebago Hike 100

Winnebago Hike 100 travel trailers under 5000 lbs exterior

✅ Thicker, high-insulation walls are excellent for thermal needs in the winter

⛔ Ventilation fan is definitely on the smaller side and doesn’t pull well

  • Length: 15′ 11″
  • UVW: 3,122 lbs
  • GVWR: 4,200 lbs
  • CCC: 1,078 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 576 lbs

The Winnegoago Hike 100 is one of the smallest campers on our list, yet it just doesn’t seem that way at all when you step inside.

I like the way Winnebago gets around the size limitations by making everything inside a flip or fold affair. The dual-opposing couches in the rear flip up and mount to the wall or fold completely out into a bed.

Meanwhile, you can pull an additional bed down from the overhead. The dinette flips up and down as well. Once everything flips up, we are surprised by the amount of standing room left in their wake.

The exterior is a similar arrangement, with flip-down tables and conveniently located storage panels that double as tables or counter space for a two-burner.

I love how the Winnebago Hike 100 becomes a pseudo-toy hauler, though you’re limited to things like bikes or large storage space for a ton of hiking gear.

Though the space is severely limited, there are several storage options we think are pretty nice as well. The wet bath features a cartridge toilet with a lid that rotates 90° when you need it out of the way.

To see what other Winnebago Hike owners are saying check out the Winnie Owners Forum and the Winnebago Hike & FLX RV Owners Group private Facebook group.

7. r-pod 180C

r-pod 180C travel trailers under 5000 lbs exterior

✅ Azdel exterior walls

⛔ Refrigerator that comes with it is small, even for a small travel trailer

  • Length: 18′
  • UVW: 3,447 lbs
  • GVWR: 4,725 lbs
  • CCC: 1,278 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 359 lbs

The R-pod is an interesting product. Forest River took the teardrop design, melded it with a slide-out, extended it just a bit, and ended up with the final product, which is a pretty fine example of what you can do in travel trailers under 5000 lbs.

The slide contains the entire galley, so it feels a little compressed, with the sink, overhead cabinets, two-burner stove top, and fridge all in the same space. However, we think it works well for an individual cooking some breakfast.

The queen bed takes up the entire front while the full, dry bath takes up the entire rear.

For those worried about leaks in RVs, the entire roof is a single, seamless piece and the entire RV is built around a powder-coated steel frame for superior durability.

We experienced a roof leak in our camper, and it was no fun! However, we think this roof will hold up well against leaks as long as you maintain it properly.

If you have a pet dog along for the ride, the exterior even includes a utility hook for a long leash so your pup can get some exercise and outdoor time.

The aerodynamic design is a fuel-saver on the highway and the r-pod is known for being easy to tow.

8. Coleman Lantern LT 18BH

Coleman Lantern LT 18BH traveln trailers under 5000 lbs exterior

✅ Unique use of the cabinetry, providing ample stocking space that’s out of the way

⛔ Bathroom is nice but maybe a little cramped for some

  • Length: 22′ 8″
  • UVW: 3,585 lbs
  • GVWR: 4,400 lbs
  • CCC: 815 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 498 lbs
  • Sleeps: 5 to 6

Coleman is a name often associated with mini-propane cylinders, burner stoves, and lanterns. However, the Coleman brand in the RV world is actually made by Dutchmen, owned by Thor Industries. We think the Coleman Lantern LT 18BH is a surprisingly exceptional small RV.

We really like the Murphy bed and the smart placement of the corner bunks, which optimize the interior living space.

The dinette folds into a sleeper as well, allowing for up to 6 sleepers if the Murphy and dinette sleepers are shared. This is a great feature if you have guests like grandkids camping with you for the weekend.

There’s plenty of counterspace considering the tiny space and also plenty of cabinetry.

We are surprised that they even managed to cram a 10.7 ft³ fridge into the limited space. Even the corner bathroom is surprisingly large.

Outside, you get pass-through storage, a power tongue jack, a 20-lb LP tank, solar hookups, an exterior GFCI outlet, and galvanized wheel wells.

You may not know that Coleman is owned by Dutchmen RV so check out the Dutchmen RV Forum for lots of great info. And you can also join the Coleman lantern lt 18bh private Facebook group where you can post your questions and get answers from owners of the Coleman Lantern LT 18BH!

9. Lance 1575

Lance 1575 travel trailers under 5000 lbs exterior

✅ Lance 1575s come equipped with “situational” lighting, which is great for mood and ambiance.

⛔ The closet next to the fridge has no shelves and is designed like a bedroom closet. Weird.

  • Length: 20′ 5″
  • UVW: 3,590 lbs
  • GVWR: 4,600 lbs
  • CCC: 1,010 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 350 lbs

The Lance 1575 is the shortest name on our list of travel trailers under 5000 lbs, but it packs quite a punch all the same. The single slide is enough to turn this mini camper into a spacious home, especially for small families and couples.

The interior is heavy on the rich, honey-colored wood vibe, which people seem to either love or hate, but we think it looks rich and luxurious. The dual-pane skylight in the bathroom offers plenty of light, lifting that claustrophobic feel of a tiny bathroom.

We love the three-burner stove, since most RVs this size come with two-burners, the 21″ oven, and a 5 ft³ fridge.

The walls are insulated and rest on an aluminum frame, with a one-piece PVC roof to minimize or eliminate leaks. The outdoor washing station is a nice touch for those who like to camp on the beach or spend a ton of time outdoors.

We think the coolest feature is the situational lighting, which you can change to match the mood indoors or out.

A great place to ask Lance owners about this model is to visit Lance Owners of America . This forum is a great place to converse with Lance camper owners.

Another great place to learn about Lance campers from people who own them is in the private Facebook group called Lance 1475 & 1575 Owners .

10. Coachmen Clipper 18DBS

Coachmen Clipper 18DBS exterior

✅ Jumbo pass-through storage is plenty large, along with a variety of storage options inside

⛔ Despite the storage size and options, the CCC is limited

  • Length: 23′
  • UVW: 3,919 lbs
  • GVWR: 4,900 lbs
  • CCC: 981 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 500 lbs

The Coachmen Clipper 18DBS is a deceptively lengthy but lightweight travel trailer. Though the exterior looks pretty much like a standard-fare camper, it includes an exterior shower, an LED electric awning, a mini fridge, pass-through storage, a 20-lb propane tank (with room for a 30-lb version), and an exterior kitchen with the included grill.

The interior offers some surprises of its own. These include a Murphy bed, a very large U-shaped dinette couch, and tons of small cabinets everywhere. Susan has a great eye for organization and she thinks it would be fun to get creative with all of the little cabinets.

There are also some convenient closets for extra clothes storage or a neat little pantry conversion if that’s what floats your boat. The bathroom won’t blow you away but it’s a dry bath and large enough for all of your bathroom needs.

To learn more about the Coachmen Clipper check out the Coachmen Clipper & Viking Travel Trailer Owners Group , which is a private Facebook group full of Coachmen trailer owners. The Coachmen Owners Club is a great forum to learn more as well.

11. Scamp 16′

Scamp 16' travel trailers under 5000 lbs exterior

✅ Nearly invulnerable, waterproof bubble, fiberglass powerhouse of an RV

⛔ Scamps are very limited in the storage options

  • Length: 16′
  • UVW: 2,200 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 250 lbs

The Scamp , like the Oliver, is a niche camper that’s primarily a fiberglass-fused egg on wheels. In other words, it’s robust, highly durable, and stands out. You can roll one of these things down a mountain and it will probably be just fine once the dust settles at the bottom.

Scamp has been around a long time and we feel that the interior looks like a camper from the 1960’s. But Scamp feels that they have a great product so why change it. And they are right!

The Scamp 16′ is a variation of a small number of floorplans and, if you like the Oliver up above, you’ll love the Scamp for all of the same reasons. To save and maximize space, just about everything inside is convertible, flips, or folds in some way.

There are two floorplans included above just so you can have an idea how flexible these campers are.

The outdoor shower is a nice touch for those looking to go off-grid, especially since some of the floor plans don’t include an interior one. Wet baths are the only kind you’ll find, however, no matter what floorplan you go with.

The Scamp is a very interesting travel trailer that can take a beating and is usually reserved by those who belong to a small but hardcore group of fans. However, Scamp fans tell us they love their camper for many reasons, all of which are completely valid.

Some great places to find first hand information about Scamp Trailers are Scamp Trailers Testimonials , Scamp Owners International , and the private Facebook group called Scamp Travel Trailers .

12. Grand Design Imagine 15RB

Grand Design Imagine 15RB exterior

✅ Nice shoe storage option directly under the booth seat adjacent to the door!

⛔ Only sells at partnered dealerships and are priced a little higher than comparable brand/models

  • Length: 19′ 11″
  • UVW: 3,594 lbs
  • GVWR: 4,795 lbs
  • CCC: 1,201 lbs
  • Tongue Weight: 378 lbs

Last but not least on our list of travel trailers under 5000 lbs is the Grand Design Imagine 15RB . This slick little travel trailer includes a power awning with an LED strip, an entire outdoor kitchen, and pass-through storage with a grip surface.

It may sound like a silly feature but Grand Design was so meticulous in their design strategy for this model that they even included a little shoe cubby to the left of the entranceway. The cubby is nestled into the back of one of the bench seats on the dinette, revealing Grand Design’s effort to pack comfort and convenience into a tight package.

The inside also includes plenty of living space, with interesting LED lighting that runs along the horizontal seams in the overhead. There is a ton of cabinetry on either side of the front-end couch. The couch folds out into a queen-sized Murphy bed, which is very well hidden when not in use.

The kitchen is spacious, with lots of storage options, a sizeable fridge, and a two-burner stovetop. The dry bath takes up the rear of the RV and is large enough for plenty of movement without banging shoulders with the wall.

We have heard for years that Grand Design had excellent customer service. Lately however, we have been hearing that Grand Design is slipping a bit in this department. We think it’s probably because they sold so many campers during Covid they can’t keep up with customer service any more.

The Grand Design Owners Forum , and the Grand Design Imagine Owners (OFFICIAL) private Facebook Group are great places to ask Grand design owners questions about their experience with Grand Design trailers.

Advantages of Travel Trailers Under 5000 Lbs

Before you settle on which trailer to purchase you will have a lot to consider. One of the most important things to decide on is the size and weight of your trailer. There are benefits to getting a small and large trailer. Here we will look at some of the advantages of purchasing one of the best travel trailers under 5000 lbs.

Easy to Tow

Firstly, it is incredibly easy to tow a travel trailer under 5000 lbs. Most trucks and vehicles will be able to pull a trailer of this size and weight.

With a lot of travel trailers, you will need to purchase a tow vehicle as well because the vehicle you already own cannot pull it. However, with a travel trailer under 5000 pounds there is a much smaller chance that you will need to do this.

Inexpensive

Price is always a factor when it comes to purchasing a travel trailer, RV, or camper. After all, these are always big financial commitments. However, when you purchase one of these travel trailers under 5000 lbs you will not need to pay as much as you would with a larger option.

Most of these trailers are sold for under $30,000 which is a big improvement from the larger options which can sometimes cost upwards of $50,000. So, if finances are a big factor for you, you should consider one of the cheaper options.

Great Floor Plans

Another great part about these lightweight trailers is that they have great floor plans. Part of what makes them lighter is that they do not have as many things cluttering up the area. As a result, the manufacturers can get more creative with the floor plans. So, you should be able to find one that is perfect for you.

Lots of Storage

Despite their smaller size, you do not need to worry about storage with most of these trailers. They still have all the storage you need. You will be able to pack almost anything you want in one of these lightweight trailers.

Additionally, since they are already lightweight you can get away with packing extra. Even with all the extra gear you probably will not need to worry about weight restrictions.

Maneuverability

Finally, maneuverability is a big factor for all travel trailers, RVs, and campers. Traveling with a trailer can be challenging for someone inexperienced because certain roads are not great for trailers.

Larger trailers can not go down certain passageways, and some roads are too dangerous for large vehicles. As a result, you may not be able to go to certain areas with a large trailer. However, when you purchase a travel trailer under 5000 lbs you will not have this issue.

You will be able to drive down most roads, and you can pass over almost all bridges. As a result, you will not be restricted on which campgrounds you can stay at.

Should I Buy an Extended Warranty for My Camper?

Wholesale Warranties How Much Does an RV Warranty Cost?

Yes – but not from a dealership! Unfortunately, your odds of suffering a major mechanical breakdown go up with every passing year. Based on RV Warranty claims records, more than 3 out of every 10 RVs will need major repairs in only their second year on the road.

This skyrockets to 8 out of 10 in their fifth year, and virtually ALL of them in their eighth year! Today’s RVs are increasingly more complex, and with more things to go wrong, the need to protect your investment is more important than ever.

You can read all about why we bought a warranty through Wholesale Warranties for several reasons:

  • We can cancel the warranty at any time and get a pro-rated refund
  • We can transfer the warranty to the new owner if we decide to sell our RV
  • There are no mileage caps on our policy
  • We can use repair shops all across the country
  • We can use a mobile repair company right at our campsite
  • The price is way better than most dealerships
  • We could finance the cost of the warranty
  • With parts and labor prices increasing all the time, we have peace of mind

You owe it to yourself to at least check out a warranty and get a free quote to see if it is right for you. It just takes a few minutes and you will learn a ton about protecting your investment. We only recommend products we use ourselves and we highly recommend you get a free quote from Wholesale Warranties .

How to Handle Visitors in a Camper Under 5,000 Lbs

The main reason a camper weighs less than 5,000 lbs is because it is small. Like under 25′ long. So how do you handle guests who come along for a camping trip?

Susan and I RV alone for the most part but every now and then our adult children and our grandkids come along for some camping fun.

We do a few things to accommodate our guests and we hope some of our tips help you out too.

First of all, the dinette in a small camper will be small too. So we suggest you eat outside as often as possible to make sure everyone has enough elbow room.

Second, you may not have enough bed space to sleep 6 people. We use an air mattress on the floor to create extra sleeping capacity. If you have kids or grandkids, you could even pitch a tent outside and let the kids sleep there. I guarantee they will love it!

And finally, you will probably find that the bathroom is not adequate for more than a couple people. So we suggest you encourage everyone to use the campground bathrooms for showering etc.

Final Thoughts About the Travel Trailers Under 5000 lbs

Travel trailers under 5000 lbs make up a large portion of the RV community. They are a nice balance between size and weight. There are lots of floor plans to fit everyone’s needs.

We hope you like our list of the 12 Best Travel Trailers Under 5000 lbs. If you have a small pickup truck or a large SUV these travel trailers may be perfect for you! And, they all have full bathrooms too!

Travel Trailers Under 6000 Lbs

Published on February 2nd, 2020 by Levi Henley (Full-Time RVer, Content Manager and Media Specialist for RV LIFE)

Lightweight travel trailers are great for families who want an outdoor vacation. Unlike their heavier counterparts, they’re good RVs for your SUVs, weigh under 6,000 pounds, and come in floorplans that cater to families.

Finding the perfect family-friendly travel trailer can be a balancing act. You want an RV that gives everyone enough personal space. Yet, having a tow vehicle that has a gas budget that’s bigger than the trip itself can ruin your travel plans.

In this article, we’re going to look into the biggest travel trailers that are on the 2020 RV market, that have an Unloaded Vehicle Weight (UVW, also known as “dry weight”) below 6,000 pounds. We’ll see what their advantages are. The examples examined will show you a broad range of floorplans that appeal to different camping lifestyles.

What makes an rv under 6,000 pounds so great.

Many families in the United States own SUVs that balance maximum seating with fuel efficiency. The SUV is the modern family vehicle. For those that enjoy the RV lifestyle, they buy their SUV to use as their travel trailer’s tow vehicle.

Many of these SUVs have a towing capacity of 7,000- 8,000 pounds . Having a coach under 6,000 pounds UVW gives them enough extra weight to load up the trailer with their belongings without having to buy a larger tow vehicle.

For those that are new to the RV life, these SUV friendly RVs are just as sturdy as any other coach. The development of lightweight building materials allows these products to have durability, but not the weight that comes with it. The engineers that design these units use them with their own families.

The 5 Biggest Travel Trailers Under 6,000 Pounds

The travel trailers we’re going to discuss are at or above 30 feet in length and under 6,000 pounds in dry weight. When you shop around, you’ll find that most lightweight travel trailers range from 25-29 feet . These units push the boundaries to give maximum space for families.

1. Grand Design Imagine 2450RL

  • 29.11 feet long
  • 5,834 pounds Unloaded Vehicle Weight (UVW)
  • Sleeps up to 4
  • $32,692- $46,085

Grand Design has always been on the top end of the towable market. Their designs are so customer-centric, you’ll find direct links in their designs from consumer feedback through fine details. It can be as small as a shoe rack at the front entrance or as significant as having the largest bathroom in the industry.

The Imagine 2450RL is virtually 30 feet in length. The living area is perfectly designed, so no one has to sit uncomfortably to view the 40-inch TV. This length gives a lot of room in the master bedroom to comfortably walk around the residential queen-size bed.

A 21-foot awning shades the outdoor living space. There is a 1.6 cubic foot refrigerator, propane hookup for a grill, and cable connection for a TV. For those that have to watch your favorite sports game, you have the perfect outdoor gameday setup.

2. Highland Ridge RV Open Range Ultra Lite UT2602RL

  • 31.3 feet long
  • 5,990 pounds UVW
  • Sleeps up to 6
  • $24,970- $31,924

The Open Range Ultra Lite by Highland Ridge gives plenty of space in the living area and master bedroom with its over 31 feet. It allows for a U-shaped dinette and a tri-fold sofa that both transform for additional sleeping space. A trailer this long has room enough for an 8 cubic foot refrigerator as well.

For pet lovers, there’s a built-in pet kennel under the queen-sized bed. A pull out pet dish keeps feeding time clean and easy underneath the microwave. An added convenience is a laundry chute in the master bedroom that goes into the exterior storage bay for easy retrieval.

If your dog has had too much fun in the mud, there’s a sprayer hose that comes connected to the back of the trailer. Cleaning them off is easy with the added docking station where you can connect their leash. Once your pup is towel dry, they can lay next to the LED fireplace that puts off real heat to finish drying.

3. Puma XLE Lite 27RBQC

  • 33 feet long
  • 5,933 pounds UVW
  • Sleeps up to 10
  • $18,588- $32,980

The Puma XLE Lite 27RBQC gives your kids their own private space without having to fold anything up during the day. It has two full-size bunk beds with privacy curtains. Whether they need to cool down or need a time out, they have their space while everyone else has access to the rest of the RV.

This trailer also makes excellent use of the outdoor area with its outdoor kitchen . It comes complete with a mini-fridge, sink, and optional griddle that’ll allow you to make a complete meal. To help you from continuously going in and out, the mini kitchen also has a storage drawer where you can keep cooking utensils and other things.

To feed your family, the coach comes with an extra-large pantry and 11 cubic foot residential refrigerator. The large U-shaped dinette has plenty of space for everyone to dine as a family. There’s also plenty of counter space to get everything prepared.

4. Shasta 29RK

  • 33.11 feet long
  • 33.11 pounds UVW
  • Sleeps up to

At 33.11 feet, The Shasta 29RK is the longest travel trailer under 6,000 pounds we’ve found on the market for 2020. Since 1941, Shasta has been an icon in the RV world. The clean design of their current model appeals too many audiences.

There is plenty of seating in the living room area. The sofa, two reclining chairs, and a large U-shaped dinette allow everyone to sit comfortably. Shasta also sets the mood with their LED lighting and faux fireplace.

If you are entertaining, there’s a lot of space in the kitchen to prepare a meal for everyone. When it’s time to eat, the dinette will accommodate all. Once everyone leaves, the laminate flooring is easy to clean.

5. Coleman Lantern 263BHWE

  • 30.7 feet long
  • 5,971 pounds UVW
  • Sleeps up to 8
  • $19,995- $29,995

The Coleman Lantern 263BHWE is another bunk bed trailer that allows a family-friendly SUV to tow it. At almost 31 feet, it can sleep up to eight people comfortably. Coleman RVs have a good history of being a solid product that is built well.

One feature people enjoy is having the second rear door enter directly into the bathroom. They use this as a mudroom to prevent tracking dirt into the RV. Parents also like having the rotating main TV that changes position from the living room to the bedroom.

Another advantage that parents enjoy is the closed-in walls of the bunks. For smaller children, parents don’t have to worry about them rolling out of bed as walls are on all sides. Children that need to feel secure will enjoy this as well.

Can’t Decide? Trying Renting One With Outdoorsy

If you’re curious about any of these travel trailers, why not give one a try. You can rent them through the peer-to-peer RV rental site Outdoorsy . This company allows you to rent travel trailers and other types of RVs from real owners.

When you meet up with the owner, they’ll tell you everything you need to know and answer all of your questions. If that particular unit isn’t to your liking, there are thousands of others you can select from on their website. You can rent as many times as you want.

When you are ready to buy your own RV, you and your family will have first-hand knowledge of what RV will be the perfect fit for everyone. We’ll see you down the road.

Top 5 Best 4 Seasons Travel Trailers Under 6,000 lbs GVWR

By Raza Vakil

During the research process of buying a new RV for yourself, you’ll need to consider the “use-case scenario” for the camper you’re purchasing. Will you be using it on weekends? Will it just be a 2-day trip every month, or do you plan on living in it full time? The versatile family rv.

travel trailer under 6000 lbs

View All Jayco  Jay Flight SLX Travel Trailer Floorplans!

Why we recommend the Jayco Jay Flight SLX travel trailer: Out of the 10+ brands of travel trailers from Jayco, the Jay Flight SLX travel trailers prove to be a good addition to our list of 4 seasons travel trailers. It provides a good mix of insulation, features, upgrades and floorplans, such as the Jay Flight SLX 145RB and the Jay Flight SLX 154BH. In addition to the others specifically mentioned, many of the floorplans hold 4 people. If you desire a larger travel trailer to boost the sleeping capacity, consider a model with bunkhouses (although they would be heavier).

Looking specifically into the features you’ll notice that Jayco has paid quite a bit of attention to the insulation and construction quality. The insulated reflective coil coupled with optional upgrade to Canadian RV standards ensures that you’re warm during the colder months, which is pretty much the entire year in areas such as Minnesota and North Dakota. The aluminum construction, structural I-beams and fully integrated A-frame also ensures that it can tank those common bumps and turns when you tow your travel trailer.

The Best 6 Travel Trailers Under 6000 Pounds To Buy

As you move up in weight, you can start upping the size and features you tend to expect with a larger RV. We have scoured the market and came up with our favorite 6 trailers under 6,000 pounds that will keep you in the wilderness longer and give you a great camping experience for years to come. You cannot go wrong with any of these units, each has its positives and negatives and has its designed use. If you want to learn more about the average weight of travel trailers, read our article here . If you further need help, we have a buyers guide here . Lets get started with our favorites!

Winniebago Minnie 2455BHS

The Winnebago 2455BHS is a very popular bunkhouse model. This floorplan is made by several manufacturers, but we think Winnebago does it best.

When you first enter the trailer, to your right is a bedroom with a queen bed with wardrobes and nightstands on either side. There is overhead storage above the bed as well as storage space under the bed. The entertainment center turns around to provide TV to the bedroom when it is nighttime, or when the kids want to be shut in to watch a movie. There are two divider curtains that separate the bedroom from the rest of the unit.

In the main living area, you will find a u shaped dinette located in the slide to provide 44”x 84” of dining space with storage under each cushion. The dinette slides fully out of the way to provide a wide walking area in the trailer.

The kitchen sports an L shaped counter with dual basin sink, three range burner with oven, full size RV refrigerator, as well as a wardrobe opposite from the refrigerator. There is plenty of counter space as well as upper cabinets and lower cabinets and drawers for storage space.

There are two double bunks located in the rear to provide ample sleeping space for 4 kids or adults. Under the bottom bunk is usable storage hidden by cabinet doors. Each bunk also has its own window for light and a breeze from the outside. The bathroom also has a full shower, toilet, and sink vanity with storage. The best part about the shower is the u shaped curtain which extends your shower space and is made of a thicker vinyl/rubber type material that will not get stuck to your body when wet.

Outside the RV, you will find a large 19’ awning which covers the outdoor kitchen with refrigerator, stove, as well as additional sink. All of your cooking could be completed outside to leave the inside clean and untouched.

The RV sits on dual 3,500 pound axles that provide 1,680 pounds of cargo carrying capacity. There are two propane tanks totaling 40 pounds which power the 25,000 BTU furnace as well as the 6 gallon water heater.

Winnebago provides LED lighting throughout as well as night shades to keep your camper dark if you are a late sleeper. One feature we love about our Winnebago is that they use thick plywood flooring so you do not feel like the RV is about to collapse when you are walking around.

Winnebago provides a bluetooth stereo with outdoor speakers and outdoor TV hookups so when you are utilizing your outdoor kitchen, you can enjoy the football game. There is a separate propane quick connect to run another BBQ.

The Minnie units are prewired for solar, come with a battery disconnect, ducted roof air conditioning, power tongue jack, outdoor shower, built in roof ladder, backup camera prep, heated and enclosed underbelly, diamond plate rock guard, built in winterization kit, aluminum rims, and the high gloss fiberglass sides which is my favorite part about the Winnebago lineup.

  • Sleeps up to 8
  • Has many upgrades from the factory
  • Lots of cargo carrying capacity
  • Lots of storage
  • None we can think of

Overall, this travel trailer is very hard to beat when it comes to quality and features. Just the fit and finish on the inside, the feel of the cabinetry with roller bearing slides, and the thoughtful use of all empty space makes this a #1 favorite.

This RV is for the user with multiple people to sleep. This trailer can sleep 8 pretty comfortably, so if you have a few adults and some kids, this unit is guaranteed to fit all of you for a nice trip with ample space to spare. This unit is on our watch list if we do end up having more kids, or if we have to bring our daughters friends around.

The Jayco X213 is another model which differentiates itself well from the marketplace. This model has a KING bed , dinette, bunk beds, and couch all packed into a 21’ model. The secret to fitting all of these items is the king bed slides out the back of the RV.

When you enter the RV, there will be two single bunk beds to your right with a nice storage ward for their gear. These bunk beds are folding and have access to the outside with a large door to store bikes in this area when not in use.

Straight ahead from the entryway door is a full bathroom complete with a tub/shower, toilet, sink, and ample vanity with overhead cabinets.

The kitchen uses both sides of the RV with the sink, three burner stove with oven, microwave, and counter on the entryway side complete with overhead cabinets and lowers, but behind that is the full size RV fridge with pantry. To the rear of the kitchen is the dinette which seats 4 and has storage below the cushions, and directly across from that is the folding jackknife sofa. To the rear of the dinette and sofa is the king bed which slides out the back with overhead cabinets above for storage.

This RV like the one above, could sleep 8. The 8 it sleeps may need to involve some kids on the jackknife sofa and dinette, but the king bed and two single bunks should sleep 4 adults comfortably.

Jayco has installed a 16’ awning which covers most of the rear of the RV to provide shade or shelter from the rain. The trailer rides on dual 2,750 pound weight capacity Dexter EZ Lube axles to provide 1,040 lbs of cargo carrying capacity. To protect the front cap Jayco installed a diamond plate rock guard, and the wheel wells get a galvanized steel housing to provide protection from serious damage in case of a tire blow out.

The Jay Feather models have a nice residential grade kitchen with ball bearing drawer glides with screwed and glued cabinetry, crown molding on the ceiling, LED lighting throughout, and vinyl plank flooring. These models are equipped with Goodyear tires, aluminum rims, two 20 pound propane bottles to power the 6 gallon DSI gas/electric water heater and furnace. There is a Bluetooth stereo with cd/dvd capability, outdoor speakers, power awning with LED lights, outdoor shower, black tank flush, power tongue jack, enclosed underbelly, and roof mounted solar prep kit. Jayco units also have a 2 year warranty which bests most of the competitors 1 year warranties.

  • Bike Storage
  • 2 Year Warranty
  • Lacks wardrobe type hanging storage
  • No Outdoor Kitchen

This trailer is for a couple as well as someone with multiple children. The benefit to this unit is that there are folding bunks to provide good storage for a generator or bikes. The king bed is a huge plus in this unit as well as having a couch and dinette. Many trailers this size don’t include bunks, king bed, couch, and dinette in such a small package.

Airstream International Signature 23FB

The Airstream International Signature 23FB is one of the nicest travel trailers you could ever walk into. When you walk into an Airstream, you will suddenly realize why their price tag is a bit above the rest. They are BEAUTIFUL! And their fit and finish are second to none. The materials, craftsmanship, and design are very well thought out and are the best that can be sourced for a trailer.

In the specific model of the 23FB, this is more of a couples trailer. The unit is designed with one bedroom and a dinette. Four people could sleep comfortabally in this trailer, but it is like a luxary hotel room for two.

When you step in the RV, you will find the bathroom at the rear of the unit taking up the full width. There is a shower, toilet, sink, and countertop large enough for a makeup artist to use. There is lower cabinets as well as a hard door to block sounds. Inside the living area of the trailer, you will find the kitchen directly across from where you walk in, there is a full sink, 3 burner stove, oven, microwave with convection oven option, RV 5 cubic foot fridge, Corian counter tops, stainless steel sink, stereo, Samsung LED TV with surround sound and sub woofer, dinette with under cushion storage, as well as a a closet for clothes storage. Towards the front of the RV there is the bedroom with queen bed, clothes storage, and nightstand. There are 5 windows just in the bedroom alone. That is more than our trailer all put together. This model has 12 windows and skylights throughout the unit to provide lots of natural light.

The 23FB is loaded onto two 3,000 pound axles on torsion axle suspension, and provides 1,329 pounds of cargo carrying capacity. One of the best features of this trailer is that not only does your ducted rooftop a/c provide cooling, but it also has a heat pump so you do not have to waste propane if you are plugged into a campsite. In addition to the heat pump is a 18,000 BTU ducted furnace to also act as a main heat source if you are in very cold climates.

Airstream provides an aluminum superstructure with coated aluminum exterior. There is a one piece white aluminum roof to reduce heat gain from the sun. There is a Sunbrella awning with LED lighting and rear window awnings as well. The trailer has two 30 pound propane tanks with an additional propane quick connect for external BBQ.

The front of the trailer has solar front window protection to prevent breakage due to rocks, as well as a stainless steel front stone guard. There is a locking fresh water inlet, exterior shower, black tank flush, and built in water pressure regulator.

The exterior of the trailer does not lack any features such as actual shock absorbers, electric hitch jack, Goodyear tires, aluminum wheels, prewire rooftop solar (and options for 80 or 160 watt solar systems factory installed) a rear view monitoring system, dedicated waste hose storage, and an enclosed aluminum insulated heated underbelly.

Inside the RV, you will find complete aluminum walls and ceiling, a fantastic fan, probeless tank monitoring system, EcoBatt insulation, tongue and groove wood floor, blackout shades, vinyl flooring, LED dimming lights, electric/gas water heater, as well as a 1,000 pure sine inverter which isn’t found in any other top RV’s we feature here.

The bed and bath will leave you with a wonderful sleep on the pillow top memory foam mattress complete with quilted bedspread, throw pillows, and sleeping pillows. Airstream comes with a 3 year transferable warranty and roadside assistance which beats most other trailer brands.

  • Lightweight for included features
  • Many upgraded features included
  • Lots of hidden storage
  • Best flow out of trailer brands
  • Exterior can dent if hit

This trailer is for a couple looking to travel with the comforts of a 5 star hotel room. This trailer does not spare any comfort of home and can satisfy your every need. Airstreams have been around for many years and are the only brand people buy used to fix up or renovate. That tells you something about their quality.

Livin Lite CampLite CL23RLS

Livin Lite takes a page out of the book from Airstream with its use of aluminum for many of its parts. Aluminum is rust resistant and lightweight. The Livin Lite Camplite CL23RLS is very light for the features and size it has weighing in at only 4,130 pounds. This is due to using aluminum for the frame instead of heavier steel. This unit rides on dual 2,800 pound axles to provide 1,492 pounds of cargo carrying capacity.

When you first step into this model, you will see the bed off to your right with overhead cabinets, dual closets, and nightstands. There are windows on either side to provide adequate cross airflow to keep you cool at night. Across from the door, you will find the bathroom with shower and toilet. There is no sink in this unit in order to provide more living space. There is a nice storage unit with shelf and coat hooks right next to the door as you walk in to act as a drop off point for all of your stuff. The whole rear of the RV is the living area with 56” sofa, huge 74″ x 40” dinette in the slide out, large counter top space adjacent to the kitchen sink, dual burner stove, and large 6 cubic foot refrigerator.

Outside the RV you will find a nice pass through storage as well as an outdoor kitchen complete with a refrigerator and dual burner stove.

Camplite adds dual pane windows with built in night shades and screens to provide good insulation from the elements. The flooring is residential freeze/ crack proof linoleum, cabinets are framed out of aluminum, solid surface counters provide good sturdy countertops. There is a stereo system complete with 2 flush mount speakers, charging center with USB ports, high efficiency LED lighting, and a stainless steel sink. In place of an oven, this unit comes with a convection oven microwave. Additionally there is a 6 gallon gas / electric DSI water heater, Vortex 12V fans, all aluminum shower surround, residential mattress, and overhead cabinets and shirt closets.

Construction is made from an aluminum superstructure with composite material throughout. There is a laminated floor with R9 insulation and bonded fiberglass walls. Other standard features are a power tongue jack, slide out topper awning, 16’ awning, aluminum rims, prewired for solar, 2 exterior speakers, exterior shower, diamond plate skirting, and radius baggage doors with slam latches. Options can include a heated and enclosed underbelly, Fantastic fan, off road package, larger 30# propane tanks, battery disconnect, and gel coat fiberglass sides.

  • Lightweight for size
  • Modern look inside
  • Enclosed underbelly an option
  • No bedroom privacy

This trailer is for the camper who wants a lightweight unit without sacrificing comfort and fit and finish. This provides about half of the trailer for entertaining space and has a separate bed area towards the front. The aluminum structure is a huge bonus to this RV to make it lightweight and long lasting. This unit is capable of sleeping 6, but is also a perfect unit for a couple taking a trip around the US.

Aspen Trail 25BH

The Aspen Trail 25BH provides many amenities within the trailer you will not find in like sized trailers that are under 4,588 pounds which this trailer is. How Aspen Trail succeeds with this is by removing the slide to save weight. Slides can add 800+ pounds in weight due to their extra components within the trailer.

Upon walking into this trailer, you are greeted to the right with a door into the bedroom which has a queen bed. The bed is full walk around so the bedroom does not lack in size. There are wards and nightstands adjacent to both sides of the bed with ample storage in the overhead cabinets above the bed.

In the main living area, you have a sofa, dinette, and two double bunk beds. The kitchen has a large 6 cubic foot RV refrigerator, microwave, oven, triple burner stove, and dual basin sink. There is a bit less counter space in this model than others, so be prepared to use the dinette for food prep. There is a large bathroom with full shower, toilet, and sink vanity with storage.

The 25BH rides on two 3,800 pound axles to provide a huge 3,012 pound cargo carrying capacity . The awning is a bit short for such a long RV at 14’, but for more of a budget RV, is perfectly adequate.

The 25BH comes with an 18,000 BTU furnace with auto ignition, 6 gallon gas water heater, dual 20# propane tanks, backup camera with solar prep, water heater bypass with winterization kit, LED interior lighting, stereo with two interior and two exterior speakers, 60” x 80” queen bed, front diamond plate protection, residential flooring, and a power awning with LED lighting.

  • Will fit the needs of weekend warrior campers
  • Sleeps 8-10 comfortably
  • Corrugated Metal Siding
  • Build quality not as nice as the others recommended
  • No enclosed or heated underbelly

If you have a large family, or some in laws, this trailer is perfect for you. One party can have the bedroom, and the other can have the living area with the kids. If you need to bring many people on your camping trip, this unit can sleep a lot. There will be some jockeying around with the dinette and jackknife sofa, but you can do it. If you need to sleep 6, you can do so without moving any of the furniture around. This trailer is great for the weekend warrior, but may not be the best in colder weather due to no enclosed underbelly and underbelly heat.

Outdoors RV 21RBS

The Outdoors RV 21RBS lives up to its name as is a RV for the true boondocker or outdoorsman. The fit and finish on items with Outdoors RV are second to none and quality can even be seen through the pass through storage. These units are built tough and are designed to last.

Upon entering the rear entryway, you will find a large closet with pantry. Across the entry door is a corner bathroom with shower, toilet, sink and skylight. There is a 51″ x 84” dinette which is one of the largest on our list which doubles as a bed. Towards the front of the RV is a 60” x 80” queen bed with nightstands and closets on each side. Above the bed is overhead storage. In the middle of the RV you will find its kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, fridge, and dual basin sink.

This trailer rides on dual 4,000 pound axles and sports a maximum cargo carrying capacity of 1,755 pounds. Interior height is higher at 6’11″ over other trailers at 6’5”.

Where this unit truly shines is in its capacities, the 21RBS has a 78 gallon fresh water tank along with a 40 gallon grey and 40 gallon black tank. These sizes are over double of what some other manufacturers offer.

These units are truly designed for 4 seasons with the thermal pane windows, cold weather kit on the Norcold refrigerator, triple layered roof insulation, 1” thick insulated luggage doors, thermal insulated skylights and bathroom vents, large furnace, and heated and insulated holding tanks. The walls are framed with aluminum and the trailer has a aluminum frame including roof. The rest of the unit is layered fiberglass. The chassis is higher to provide off road capability with gas shock absorbers and rugged Goodyear 10 ply tires. There is diamond plating to protect the front from rock chips and rubber diamond plate luggage compartment flooring.

This RV is meant for off grid camping with the large freshwater tank, battery disconnect, LED lighting throughout, solar ready roof port for up to 510 watts along with the 200 watts solar ready port on the side. There is an external propane port for BBQ and 2 30 pound propane tanks.

The interior is not lacking features with the LG solid surface counter tops, sunken range with glass front, knife rack, under mount kitchen sink, 100 lb metal drawer glides, vaulted radius ceilings, hardwood cabinets, 12v charging station, and HDMI Bluetooth DVD sound system.

The bedroom comes with a premium mattress, night shades, and night stands. With the upgraded package you could expect features such as a wireless rear camera, rear back up lights, power stabilizer jacks with remote control, slide topper awnings, etc…

  • Built for rugged environments
  • Large tank capacities
  • Lots of standard features
  • Fair cost for what you get
  • Can be a bit heavy than other units of comparable size

This trailer is for the avid outdoorsman or boondocker. With the solar ready capabilities and large holding tanks, you don’t have to worry about moving your trailer for power or dumping your tanks very often. This would be the perfect vehicle to tow cross country through the back country due to its off road capabilities as well as tour from KOA to KOA.

*CCC is Cargo Carrying Capacity

Each of the 6 travel trailers have their benefits on what they are good for. You can go from the 5 star hotel of the Airstream , to the rugged life of the Outdoors RV, to the King bed in the Jayco and be happy. No matter which one on this list you pick, they will all perform very well and are good trailers for what they are designed for. View all Jayco Jay Flight SLX Travel Trailer Floorplans!

Why we recommend the Jayco Jay Flight SLX travel trailer: From Jayco’s more than 10 brands of TRAIL TRAILERS, the Jay Flight SLX travel trailers are a good addition to our list of 4 season travel trailers. It offers a good mix of insulation, functions, upgrades and floor plans, such as the Jay Flight SLX 145RB and the Jay Flight SLX 154BH. In addition to the other specifically mentioned, many of the floor plans contain 4 people. If you want a larger travel trailer to increase sleeping capacity, consider a model with bunkhouses (although they would be heavier).

If you look specifically at the functions, you will notice that Jayco paid a lot of attention to the insulation and build quality. The isolated reflective coil in combination with optional upgrade to Canadian RV standards will keep you warm during the colder months, which is almost the whole year in areas like Minnesota and North Dakota. The aluminum construction, the structural I-beams and the fully integrated A-frame also ensure that it can handle those usual bumps and curves when you drag your travel trailer.

  • Side wall skirt in black diamond plate
  • 2-sided reflective foil insulation in retractable floors with recessed floor
  • Electric extensions with enclosed gear system
  • Chapel doors in maple-style

10 Awesome Travel Trailers Under 6,000 lbs

  • July 25, 2023
  • 5th Wheels/Travel Trailers

If you're looking for great camper trailers that are lightweight, this is the post for you - focusing specifically on travel trailers under 6000lbs. Travel trailers come in all different shapes and sizes. But the lighter options have seen a recent popularity increase thanks to a few key benefits.

The most important advantage to lightweight trailers is that they can be safely towed with a truck such as the Ford F-150 or even with a large SUV like a Chevy Tahoe .  Read more about which SUV's are best for towing a travel trailer. In fact, even some passenger cars could even get the job done depending on their towing ability.

Towing a lighter travel trailer would also make driving much easier. It removes the stress of worrying about a heavier trailer swaying back and forth behind you. This feature makes navigating both highways and backroads more manageable. However, please remember that trailer sway can happen even with a lightweight trailer under some conditions. A lot depends on your overall towing capacity, how you drive and road conditions. Read here more about trailer sway and how to prevent it .

The lighter load offers better fuel economy as well. In other words, these trailers will be more cost-effective than larger options due to their lighter weight. It’s another area where the lighter designs seem to outpace their heavier rivals.

These trailers do fall behind in some areas, though. It’s not uncommon for a company to cut corners when pushing towards a lower dry weight limit. This issue results in a poorly designed trailer due to use of less than stellar materials.

But we have a list of 10 lightweight travel trailers that avoid this issue. So, keep reading and check out what makes these models such awesome options.

10  Travel Trailers Under 6,000 LBS

Here are 10 top-tier travel trailers that have a dry weight under 6,000 pounds. The images used in this section are screenshots from the official websites. You can explore these sites by pressing on the links provided below.

1. Crossroad RV Zinger Lite ZR18DS

Crossroad RV did a great job making this 22-foot 6-inch trailer into an RV owner's dream. For instance, this travel trailer comes with a queen mattress that fits perfectly into the bedroom. It's the perfect place to wind down after a long day traveling.

The fully functional kitchen is another nice touch. It's filled with useful features such as a stove, oven, microwave, and sink. You'd think all these features would make it seems cramped inside, but the 6-foot 6-inch ceiling fixes the issue. And this rig's a convenient tow option thanks to its dry weight of 4,360 pounds.

Find out more about the Crossroad RV Zinger Lite ZR18DS here.

2. Forest River Wolf Pup 15SW

This 18-foot 11-inch travel trailer might seem small based on its measurements. But Forest River made sure to fill every inch of this rig with top tier features. These aspects include a sleeper sofa, queen mattress, complete kitchen, LCD TV mount, and full bathroom.

This rig's dry weight of 3276 pounds is another advantage. I'd imagine the total weight would barely break 5,000 pounds with the trailer being fully loaded. This quality makes it the easiest tow on our entire list.

3. Forest River Flagstaff Super Lite  23FBDS

Forest River's Flagstaff Super Lite 23FDBS has a higher dry weight than the previous rigs at 5654 pounds. But this figure's still considered towable by a large number of vehicles such as SUVs, jeeps, and pick up trucks.

The source of this higher poundage is its longer length at 25 feet. This extra length makes it possible to fit the U dinette and various storage areas. And it still has space for a full kitchen, complete bathroom, and Murphy Bed.

4. Heartland North Trail 22 FBS

It's the perfect travel trailer for guests as well. This rig has enough room for five or six people to sleep comfortably. A queen-sized bed is also available to anyone who'd want a bit more room when they sleep. Plus, it still has a dry weight of only 5,497 pounds, even with these features.

5. Jayco Jay Feather 24BHM

Jayco's Jay Feather 24BHM has enough space for three different beds: one Murphy Bed and a set of bunk beds. This aspect provides plenty of places for people to sleep. The inclusion of the sleeper sofa is another item worth having. It'll make sure you have somewhere else to relax other than a bed.

This rig's dry weight is rather solid, too, at a lowly 5465 pounds. You shouldn't overlook the awning either as it'll give nice shade coverage. Its other features include a U dinette, full kitchen, and complete bathroom.

6. Keystone RV Company Passport 240BH SL Series

Keystone's 27-foot 4-inch travel trailer offers plenty of comforts for full-time RVers: a double bunk bed, queen mattress, updated kitchen, complete bathroom, and a U dinette. It even comes with a LED flat-screen HDTV to entertain you when RV life gets a little boring.

This rig seems to have every feature an RV owner could want onboard a trailer. The 4911-pound dry weight isn't too shabby as it should be towable by an SUV. Some passenger cars might even be capable of towing it depending on the type.

7. Lance 2295 Travel Trailer

Lance's 2295 Travel Trailer provides an RVer with a lot of room with its 27-foot long design. This room is filled with cozy atmosphere thanks to the fireplace placed in the living area. The 32-inch LCD LED HDTV right above it adds onto this sense of relaxation.

Another appealing feature is the dinette with pull out storage drawers. These storage drawers could store trinkets from your travels. The kitchen area's also worth mentioning as it has enough counter space for preparing actual meals.

8. Winnebago Micro Minnie 1800BH

The 21-foot Winnebago's Micro Minnie 1800BH is a bit smaller than most rigs on this list. But this smaller area doesn't mean it lacks features. In fact, Winnebago somehow managed to fit all the essential items without making the rig feel stuffy.

After all, it has a stainless steel sink, dinette, bunk beds, queen mattress, oven, microwave, and many other amenities. I think it's fair to say that this travel trailer uses its space better than most rigs on our list. Its dry weight of 3,660 pounds makes it more towable than many of them as well.

9. Coachmen Freedom Express Pilot  20BHS

Coachmen's Freedom Express Pilot 20BHS is a compact rig explicitly made for smaller tow vehicles. This mindset reflects itself in the trailer's low dry weight of 3,883 pounds and 22-foot length. But it still has a lot of the same features that these other rigs possess: sleeper sofa, queen mattress, full kitchen, bunk beds, etc.

Aside from these features, it has a 12-inch awning to help shield you during sunny days. The pass-through storage is another exciting addition. It'll give you an extra area to store all the possessions picked up during your travels.

10.Coleman Lantern LT 262BH

Our last rig happens to be the largest on this list at 30 feet 7 inches long. Coleman puts the extra space to good use by adding useful items such as a dinette and entertainment center. There's also enough room to add in a sofa without meddling too much with the walking area.

It ensures you can still move around without continually hitting into something. And the extra room didn't effective the dry weight, 5,833 pounds, enough to make much of a difference. The vehicle in your driveway should be capable of towing it from place to place.

Top 10 Toy Haulers Under 6,000 Pounds (With Pricing)

Toy Haulers Under 5,000 Pounds

Toy haulers are becoming more and more popular every year in the RV industry, thanks to their unparalleled utility and versatility.

As toy haulers provide all the creature comforts of a standard travel trailer while also offering a garage space.

Allowing you to bring motorcycles, ATVs, and other recreational vehicles along with you while camping and traveling.

Making them super popular with RVers who love to explore the great outdoors while also enjoying activities like off-roading and dirt biking.

One of the biggest issues, however, with toy haulers is that they tend to be pretty heavy, often weighing as much as 8,000 pounds or more, which limits the type of vehicle that can pull them.

As most toy haulers require at least a half-ton truck, such as a Ford F150 or a RAM 1500 to safely pull them.

The good news though is that many RV manufacturers are now producing what are considered lightweight toy haulers that weigh less than 6,000 pounds and in some cases less than 5,000 pounds .

So if you happen to have a smaller less capable tow vehicle, such as an SUV or small truck , not to worry.

As we’ve highlighted some of the best and most popular toy haulers under 6,000 pounds below.

10 Best Toy Haulers Under 6,000 Lbs (Lightest to Heaviest)

*Before towing any toy hauler, make sure the dry weight and fully loaded weight of the camper (trailer + cargo weight) is below the max tow capacity of the tow vehicle.

1. KZ Sportsmen Classic 180TH

Quick specs.

  • Average Cost : $21,000
  • Dry Weight : 3,340 Pounds
  • Cargo Carrying Capacity : 1,660 Pounds
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating : 5,000 Pounds
  • Length : 21 Feet 8 Inches
  • Sleeping Capacity : 5
  • Bathroom : 2-Piece Dry Bath

One of the lightest, smallest, and cheapest toy haulers on this list is the KZ Sportsmen Classic 180TH, which has a dry weight of 3,340 pounds, a length of 21 feet 8 inches, and an average cost of just over $20,000.

Despite its smaller size, lighter weight, and more affordable price though, the Sportsmen Classic 180TH still has all the same amenities as its heavier, larger, and more expensive counterparts.

KZ Sportsmen Classic 180TH Floorplan

KZ Sportsmen Classic 180TH Floorplan

As the Sportsmen Classic 180TH offers a five-person sleeping capacity, thanks to top and bottom front bunks and a rear flip-out sofa in the garage area.

As well as a two-piece dry bath, a full-featured kitchen, a good-size 13-foot awing, and a good amount of interior and exterior storage space.

And while the 180TH isn’t going to win any awards for cargo carrying capacity and garage space, for a sub-22-foot toy hauler, it definitely holds its own.

KZ Sportsmen Classic 180TH Garage

As the KZ Sportsmen Classic 180TH has a cargo carrying capacity of up to 1,660 pounds and a garage/cargo area that is nine feet deep.

Allowing you to carry everything from oversized sporting equipment such as kayaks, and bikes to ATVs and dirt bikes.

And thanks to the trailer’s full-size rear ramp door, loading and unloading the toy hauler is a breeze.

As the Geo Pro G19FBTH like all Forest River Geo Pros offers class-leading features and amenities throughout .

Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro G19FBTH Floorplan

Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro G19FBTH Floorplan

Including such standard amenities as a full three-piece dry bath, a fully-equipped kitchen with a gas oven, microwave, and 12V fridge, and a fixed full-size RV bed.

As well as numerous standard features that are often either optional or upgrades on other travel trailers and toy haulers, such as a 200W roof-mounted solar panel with a 1,000W inverter, frameless windows, heated holding tanks, roller shades, a power tongue jack, solid entry steps, and a large front windshield.

Of course, what really sets this travel trailer apart from most, including all other Geo Pros is its garage area.

(The G19FBTH is the only toy hauler trim level available in the Geo Pro lineup.)

Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro G19FBTH Cargo Area

As the Rockwood Geo Pro G19FBTH has a large open area at the rear that functions as both a garage as well as a living space.

Allowing the space to serve as both a cargo area for toys and outdoor gear while traveling, while still functioning as a living space once you’ve reached the campsite.

Including such premium features as an AlphaPly roofing membrane with a limited lifetime warranty, rain gutters, a powder-coated frame, super lube axles, a Darco-wrapped underbelly, and a power awning and tongue jack on the exterior.

As well as Beauflor linoleum, upgraded soft teddy bear bunk mats, designer window treatments with nightshades, and a fully-equipped kitchen with an oversized 11 cubic foot 12V residential refrigerator on the interior.

Palomino Puma Ultra Lite 187TH Interior

Plus the toy hauler also has one of the largest garage spaces available in its class, with a depth of 9 feet 6.5 inches and a width of 47-inches .

Allowing the Puma Ultra Lite 187TH to accommodate a wide range of recreational vehicles and toys.

4. KZ RV Escape E20 Hatch

  • Average Cost : $27,000
  • Dry Weight : 3,560 Pounds
  • Cargo Carrying Capacity : 840 Pounds
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating : 4,400 Pounds
  • Length : 23 Feet 10 Inches

The KZ RV Escape E20 Hatch is one of the most unique toy haulers on this list, as it offers a large flip-up hatch, as opposed to the more common fold-down ramp door.

Which provides several unique benefits to the toy hauler.

As the flip-up hatch not only provides a covered area that shades you from the sun and incremental weather.

But the easy access hatch also makes it much easier to quickly grab something from the back.

KZ RV Escape E20 Hatch Floorplan

KZ RV Escape E20 Hatch Floorplan

There are some obvious drawbacks to this type of access hatch and toy hauler though, most notable of which is the lack of a ramp door.

As the lack of a ramp door requires you to lift everything into the trailer, which is fine for bikes and kayaks but not so much for dirt bikes and ATVs that can weigh anywhere from 200 to 500 pounds apiece.

In addition, it’s also worth pointing out that this toy hauler has the lowest cargo-carrying capacity on the list, at 840 pounds.

KZ RV Escape E20 Hatch Interior

So who is the Escape E20 Hatch best for?

I would say that the Escape E20 Hatch like the rest of the Escape Hatch lineup is best suited to RVers that want some basic toy hauler capability but don’t want to sacrifice too much on liveability.

So if you looking for a toy hauler that places more emphasis on livability and creature comforts and less on toy hauler capability, the Escape E20 Hatch might just be the right fit for you.

  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating : 7,680 Pounds

While Sunset Park RV is perhaps best known for its smaller teardrop trailer models , including the Sunray and the Sun Lite, they actually make a larger toy hauler as well, called the Rush.

Which is available in two different trim levels, including the 19FC and the 24FB.

We chose to highlight the 24FB on this list, however, because the Rush 24FB is the larger of the two, with an overall length of 24 feet 8 inches.

Sunset Park RV Rush 24FB Floorplan

Allowing it to offer more features and amenities as well as a larger garage space compared to the 19FC, all while still weighing less than 6,000 pounds.

Making the Sunset Park RV Rush 24FB a great option for those looking for a larger toy hauler under 6,000 lbs.

The Rush toy hauler also comes nicely equipped with features and amenities not usually found on toy haulers in its class.

Including such features as dual axles, a patio package that allows you to turn the ramp door into an outdoor deck, a full three-piece dry bath, and even prep and space for a small washer and dryer.

Sunset Park RV Rush 24FB Garage

The real claim to fame on this well-equipped toy hauler though has to be its oversized garage area and extra large cargo carrying capacity.

As the Rush 24FB has one of the largest garages and highest cargo-carrying capacities on this list .

Just keep in mind though, that just because this toy hauler can handle above-average cargo weight that doesn’t mean that your tow vehicle can.

As you also need to make sure the tow vehicle you’re using can handle the extra cargo weight and that it has a max towing capacity that’s higher than the fully loaded weight of the toy hauler.

6. Forest River No Boundaries NB19.1

As the trailer offers lots of toy hauler capability and luxury in a package that’s lightweight and easy to tow .

Placing the trailer squarely into the ultra-lightweight category for toy haulers.

7. Coachmen Catalina Trail Blazer 26TH

  • Average Cost : $30,000
  • Dry Weight : 5,486 Pounds
  • Cargo Carrying Capacity : 2,414 Pounds
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating : 7,900 Pounds
  • Length : 30 Feet
  • Bathroom : Split 3-Piece Dry Bath

While the Coachmen Catalina Trail Blazer 26TH has a similar dry weight compared to other lightweight toy haulers, the thing that instantly stands out about this lightweight toy hauler is how much bigger it is.

And that’s for good reason.

As there’s a sizable difference in length and width when comparing the Catalina Trail Blazer 26TH to other lightweight toy haulers.

In fact, the Coachmen Catalina Trail Blazer 26TH is anywhere from 5 to 10 feet longer as well as 4 to 10 inches wider compared to other smaller lightweight toy haulers.

Coachmen Catalina Trail Blazer 26TH Floorplan

Coachmen Catalina Trail Blazer 26TH Floorplan

Which gives this toy hauler a much more spacious feel on the inside.

Making it ideal for more extended camping and long-term travel, or even for weekend warriors who need more garage space to haul larger recreational vehicles .

As the Catalina Trail Blazer 26TH has a garage/cargo area that is 11 feet 6 inches deep and 5 feet 11 inches wide, at its widest.

Allowing the toy hauler to handle several dirt bikes, two ATVs, or even a UTV, when combined with the trailer’s multiple heavy-duty D-ring tie-downs, and its large full-size fold-down 90 by 74-inch ramp door.

Coachmen Catalina Trail Blazer 26TH Interior

The extra interior space doesn’t just improve the garage area in the trailer though, as the living space is also improved.

As the Catalina Trail Blazer 26TH also offers several features and amenities not possible in smaller lightweight toy haulers, including a full walk-around north-to-south queen bed, a spacious split three-piece dry bath, dual opposing fold-down sofas, and ample seating.

For additional info on the Coachmen Catalina Trail Blazer 26TH and to see a 3D tour of the interior, check out Coachmen’s website by clicking here .

8. Keystone Outback Ultra-Lite 240URS

  • Average Cost : $35,000
  • Dry Weight : 5,491 Pounds
  • Cargo Carrying Capacity : 2,099 Pounds
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating : 7,590 Pounds
  • Length : 28 Feet 6 Inches
  • Sleeping Capacity : 8

If you’re looking for a toy hauler that’s under 6,000 pounds that maximizes sleeping capacity and living space, then you need to look no further than the Keystone Outback Ultra-Lite 240URS.

As this lightweight toy hauler from Keystone has a sleeping capacity of up to eight, thanks to five different sleeping berths spread throughout the trailer.

And if you’re wondering how a toy hauler that’s less than 30 feet in length manages to sleep eight, it has a lot to do with its unique layout and floorplan.

Keystone Outback Ultra-Lite 240URS Floorplan

Keystone Outback Ultra-Lite 240URS Floorplan

As the Outback Ultra-Lite 240URS has bunk beds in the garage area, a sleeper sofa and convertible dinette booth in the main living area, and perhaps most unique of all, a rear slide-out king-size bed that almost doubles the living space of the toy hauler.

If the camper has a real slide-out though, where did Keystone manage to fit in a garage on this toy hauler?

As this is usually where the ramp door would be on a normal toy hauler.

The answer is that Keystone cleverly placed the toy hauler’s garage and side ramp door at the front of the trailer.

Making it the only toy hauler on this list to offer a front garage/cargo area.

Keystone Outback Ultra-Lite 240URS Front Garage

Which as you might expect has both its advantages and disadvantages.

Because while the toy hauler’s front cargo area does maximize living space, it also reduces the toy hauler’s carrying capabilities.

As the trailer offers a smaller garage compared to more traditional toy haulers, with the garage in the rear.

In addition, you also need to watch your hitch weight on this toy hauler.

As the more weight you load into the front garage, the more hitch weight your tow vehicle will have to contend with.

9. Heartland Pioneer RG26

  • Average Cost : $30,500
  • Dry Weight : 5,725 Pounds
  • Cargo Carrying Capacity : 1,743 Pounds
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating : 7,500 Pounds
  • Length : 31 Feet

If you need a toy hauler under 6,000 lbs with the maximum amount of interior and garage space, then the Heartland Pioneer RG26 should definitely be on your shortlist.

As this toy hauler is the largest toy hauler on this list, with an overall length of 31 feet and a garage depth of 16 feet .

However, keep in mind, as is the case with all lightweight toy haulers that the toy hauler space in this camper shares a footprint with its living space.

Heartland Pioneer RG26 Floorplan

Heartland Pioneer RG26 Floorplan

So as you move forward in the trailer, the width of the garage area does narrow quite a bit.

There’s a lot more to like about the Pioneer RG26 than just its larger size and garage though.

As the trailer offers one of the nicest and most spacious interiors on this list, with features and amenities that really utilize the extra length and space .

Heartland Pioneer RG26 Interior

For instance, the RG26 goes beyond just your basic galley found on most lightweight toy haulers, as it offers a full kitchen, with a large double-door fridge, a cooktop with an oven, a large double bowl stainless steel sink, a microwave oven, and lots of cabinetry and storage space.

In addition, this toy hauler also offers a private front bedroom with a full walk-around north-to-south bed and opposing wardrobes, a large split three-piece dry bath, a rear lounge area in the garage with opposing fold-down sofas, and a rear ramp door that can double as an outdoor deck, for even more living space.

For more information on the Heartland Pioneer RG26 and to see a virtual tour of the interior, check out their website here .

10. Coachmen Adrenaline 21LT

  • Dry Weight : 5,750 Pounds
  • Cargo Carrying Capacity : 3,985 Pounds
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating : 9,735 Pounds
  • Length : 27 Feet 5 Inches

Making the Adrenaline 21LT not only the heaviest but also the most expensive on our list.

But for the extra weight and cost you get arguably one of the best lightweight toy haulers on the road today .

As the Coachmen Adrenaline 21LT offers class leasing cargo carrying capacity, garage size, features, and amenities .

Coachmen Adrenaline 21LT Floorplan

Coachmen Adrenaline 21LT Floorplan

Starting with its cargo-carrying capacity, the 21LT offers up to 3,985 pounds of toy-hauling capability.

Which is enough to handle a wide range of recreation vehicles and toys, including dirt bikes, ATVs, golf carts, or a side-by-side.

In addition, you also get plenty of garage/living space inside the toy hauler, thanks to its longer 27-foot-5-inch length.

Allowing the camper to offer a garage area that is 13 feet 8 inches deep as well as a whole host of comfort and convenience features.

Coachmen Adrenaline 21LT Interior

Including a spacious main living area with a full-featured galley, two movable swivel caption chairs, and opposing roll-overs sofas that convert into a full-size queen bed.

Plus, the 21LT also offers a spacious three-piece dry bath, as well as a private front bedroom with a queen-sized bed on a slide-out and a large wardrobe closet.

Toy haulers are a great option for individuals and families who want to bring their favorite recreational vehicles with them while camping and traveling.

When shopping for a toy hauler though, it’s important to consider the different weights of a toy hauler, including its dry weight, cargo carrying capacity, fully loaded weight, and gross vehicle weight rating.

As each of these weights will have an impact on the trailer’s overall weight as well as its capabilities.

Plus, knowing these weights will also help to ensure that you don’t exceed your tow vehicle’s max tow capacity.

If you’re searching for toy haulers under 6,000 pounds though, you probably already know the importance of trailer weight and not exceeding your tow vehicle’s max tow capacity.

Which is why we put together this list of lightweight toy haulers under 6,000 lbs.

Keep in mind though, as stated several times in this blog post that it’s important that you account for not only the dry weight of the toy hauler but also its full-loaded weight when determining if your tow vehicle can safely pull the trailer.

Regardless of which toy hauler you end up going with though, all toy haulers both big and small offer a great combination of toy-hauling capability and comfort.

Allowing you to not only transport your favorite recreational vehicles while traveling but also to enjoy the comforts of home, once you’ve made it to your campsite.
