You only need to see if the winch engine is starting or not. Disconnect the remote switch plug from its socket. Use a short piece of wire to "jump" two of the opposing four (or three) pins. Winch Troubleshooting
The winch should operate in one direction. Then apply the +12V wire to the black wire on the solenoid. If the winch does not work in the other direction then the solenoid has a problem. Just run 12 V directly to the winch and then switch the wires. that way you can see if it runs in both directions. If it works then you know its not the winch motor and it has to be a bad connection. The winch switch on the handle bars reverses the positive and negative to the motor causing it to turn in either direction.
