SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Travis Scott fans are buzzing after he revealed dates for his 2023 Utopia - Circus Maximus Tour including Salt Lake City. This marks his first headline tour since the 2021 Astroworld incident.

Travis, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, will be touring across the country from mid-October to the end of the year.

He'll be performing songs from his latest album, UTOPIA, released in July.

The album features collaborations with Beyoncé, SZA, 21 Savage, Future, Bad Bunny, and Drake.

While guest appearances on the tour haven't been confirmed, fans are hopeful for surprises.

The announcement holds significance as Travis was informed this summer that he won't face criminal charges for the 2021 Astroworld Festival tragedy where 10 people died.

Scott is scheduled to perform at the Delta Center on Nov. 15.

Inspired by his record-breaking No.1 album  UTOPIA , Travis Scott’s UTOPIA – Circus Maximus Tour will transport fans into an unparalleled audiovisual experience. The tour will kick off in Charlotte on October 11th, and will continue through North America until December 29th. $2 from every ticket sold will go to Cactus Jack Foundation which is a 501(c)3 with a mission to uplift Houston youth through toy drives, scholarship programs to HBCU college students, and fulfilling expenses for education and creative endeavors.

The announcement follows on the heels of Travis Scott’s electrifying live performance at the iconic Circus Maximus in Rome, Italy, which sold out 60,000 tickets in just 2 days.

UTOPIA  has been deemed the biggest hip-hop release of 2023, holding strong at No.1 on the Billboard Top 200 for four weeks running, and garnering over 1.5 billion streams globally. Additionally, Spotify named  UTOPIA the  most streamed album in its first week in 2023, and Apple Music confirmed the biggest first day streams of an album in 2023.

UTOPIA  finds Travis Scott at the height of his powers as a performer, songwriter, producer, and collaborator proving once again that nobody sounds like Travis. It continues to enshrine him as the culture’s foremost sonic innovator, and has been heralded as ‘album of the decade’.

Travis Scott is the stage name of Jacques Webster, a rapper hailing from Houston, Texas, USA and born on the 30th of April 1992. Since debuting in 2009 at the age of 17 he has been signed to the record labels of both Kanye West and T.I.

To look at the career of Travis Scott seems a lot like looking into the fantasies of any teenage rap fan in the United States of America. However, the only thing about Scott that’s almost too good to be true is the sheer amount of talent that he possesses. Here we are, one of the hottest names in Hip-Hop, with a list of collaborators that reads like a who’s who of the genre’s biggest names and a future so bright it’s dangerous to look at it with shades… is a man so young that at the time of writing he’s been legally allowed to drink for a little over two and a half years.

Scott began to produce beats at the age of sixteen; forming a duo with his friend Chris Holloway named The Graduates. These led to some E.P’s and even a couple of albums but they weren’t to last, and Scott pulled away from both of them at around the same time that he dropped out of college in his home state of Texas and moved to Los Angeles. It was soon after he settled into the city of angels and started releasing his music onto the internet that T.I heard his track “Lights (Love Sick)”, immediately got in touch and soon after, had met up with Scott in person and freestyled over Scott’s track “Animal”.

This would not be the last time that Scott would work with certified superstars in his music career, in fact very soon afterwards he found himself in the company of a bona-fide legend. Through an industry contact, he managed to catch the ear of Kanye West, who signed him to GOOD Music’s production division production division Very GOOD Beats. His production was even a feature of GOOD Music’s debut compilation album “Cruel Summer” working with the likes of Common, Raekwon, John Legend and his boss over three different tracks.

However, all this work was a diversion from his debut mixtape “Owl Pharaoh”. It was released in 2013 after being started in 2011 and since then, his star has continued to rise rapidly. He’s produced everyone from Jay-Z to Big Sean and seems poised to do great things, with his whole life ahead of him, Travis Scott comes highly recommended.

Live reviews

I was beyond excited for this show! I heard it was supposed to be visually stunning so I was prepared for some high quality views. It was a lot of fun but I have to say, I think my expectations may have been too high. The roller coaster type set up was really fun to watch and the overall lighting and video playing during the show was really cool. Sound on the other hand was rough. In a big arena, sound usually isn't an issue so I think it may have had something to do with Scott's performance. At times it was really hard to tell which song he was singing or where he was at in the song. When he talked to the audience it was super hard to tell what he was saying. Again, I'm not totally positive what was at fault here. We were also disappointed that the big screen wasn't playing the live show, only two smaller screens on the sides that we couldn't see. All in all it was a cool show, but I would probably read more reviews before going to another!

One of the best concerts I have been to, but it seemed sort of unorganized compared to other concerts I have been. But, this is probably due to the fact that the opening act canceled. Instead of the opening act, Drake made a surprise appearance making it all worth it. If Drake would't have shown up though, I'm not sure it would make the list for best concerts I have been to. Since I was GA Floor, I got there about 6 hours early and got second row and got to help Drake over the barrier when he came into the crowd. There was constantly shoving and people having to be removed from the crowd, this was expected though because it was GA. Overall, it was a great experience. My only advise is to get there very early if you want to be near the front.

This concert was AWFUL. Everyone waited at least 4+ hours just to see Travis Scott. Nobody cares about the wack DJ set. He played 3 songs and walked out. We all paid 100-150 dollars for this awful concert. They promoted "the night show" as an actual concert and he was supposed to play for at least 30 minutes. He played maybe for 7 minutes. I want my money back for this wack ass show, as well as everyone else. He promoters Dallas Entertainment are false advertisers, liars, and scammers. Never buying tickets from them again. Waste of time and money.

I've been to tons of concerts and Travis Scott by far has been the best. It was crazy hype from the moment he stepped on stage to the last song. The energy was amazing. He did a great job at getting the crowd excited, everyone was going crazy. He got the crowd so loud that people in the hotel across the street were coming to the windows and watching. It was insane, and soooo much fun. If you have the opportunity to go to a Travis Scott concert 100% you should. It was the most insane and life changing night. Hands down best concert I've been to.

This was by far the best night of my life, I have so much respect for him because he woke up that day feeling like shit and I absolutely love his music. I loved it when he came out onto the floor and gets involved with his fans, sadly I didn't get to be the person he came up to but I am still having concert withdrawal of how much I miss that moment. Please come to Calgary one day with you as the main act because I would pay any price for that, you are the best performer I've ever seen.

Every and any opportunity to go to a Travis Scott concert and see him perform should be taken because the man and his shows are LEGENDARY. General admission shows are cool, but there are so many people that make it somewhat difficult to fully enjoy but that is just part of the experience. If it gets difficult to breathe or there is something wrong though, people will help you and the security is usually very attentive. LA FLAME IS A LEGEND AND HIS PERFORMANCES ARE TO DIE FOR!!!!

Well Travis scott missed his connecting flight so he wasn't there. The festival on its own was great and fun. I would recommend a new bathroom situation, and it would be fun if they had more rides and possibly games. Seating was ok but there is room for improvement. The parking was good a little far. The stage was amazing and the water stations were good but maybe have bigger signs I heard others say it was difficult to locate. Overall good show and fun time.

best performer ive ever seen. he always transfers so so so much energy to the crowd and everyone just goes completely wild. went to the Cleveland show and he surprised us by performing the drop of goosebumps 15 times to break the hall of fame record as his finale. he performed so many good songs that the crowd loved and it was all in all an amazing show. by far the best show ive ever been to. there's so much energy and hype it makes you just feel great.

Honestly best concert I have ever been to, The opener Khalid, was phenomenal. When Travis finally came on he yells over the mic, "This is your last chance to get to the pit come down now!" This unleashed a stampede of fans, including me, to sprint to the pit and hop the barrier. He then proceeded to put on a wild performance of all his classic songs. I made it to the very front row by the end of the concert. Travis is truly a performer for the fans.

The Depot will host a series of private concerts featuring great acts chosen by Travis. On Friday, Feb. 17, Don Toliver and Sheck Wes will perform, and further acts that will headline the venue on Saturday, February, will be announced soon. The DJ for the Concert Series is Chase B. At 8 o’clock, both concerts are set to start. Starting on Friday, Feb. 3, tickets for the Cactus Jack Concert Series will be available here for $150 per ticket, per night. There is a cap of 1,200 visitors per evening.

Motivated by his passion for the sport, Travis has collaborated with professional snowboarder and entrepreneur Jeremy Jones to assemble an impressive lineup of competitors for this two-day snowboarding contest, including friends of Travis Jake Canter and Zeb Powell. Prior to the professionals taking to the rails for the finals on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 3-6pm, amateurs will compete on Friday, Feb. 17 from 2 to 5 pm. Travis will watch the competition on Saturday and support the winners. Grit Rail Jam, presented by the Utah Sports Commission, Utah Jazz, and Cactus Jack, is free and accessible to the public. It takes place at Olympic Legacy Plaza at The Gateway.

“It’s a dream to be able to collaborate with Smith Entertainment Group and the Utah Jazz to create iconic experiences on a canvas like Salt Lake City – especially during a time like All-Star weekend,” said Travis Scott. “I love Utah and have been coming here for years to snowboard. Salt Lake City is definitely going to be the place everyone will want to be.”

“Travis has a one-of-a-kind vision that has made him one of the most popular artists in the world, and we are excited for him to bring his creative energy to Utah,” said Ryan Smith, owner of the Utah Jazz. “We couldn’t be more excited about partnering with him on these activations that will help even more fans and the community engage in amazing All-Star weekend celebrations.”

The Utah Jazz will co-host NBA All-Star 2023 in Salt Lake City, which will unite the best and most ardent players for a world celebration of the league. The formal festivities will run from Thursday, February 16 through Sunday, February 19.

HOUSTON (AP) — Attorneys for rap star Travis Scott argued in court Monday that he should be dismissed from hundreds of lawsuits filed over the deadly 2021 Astroworld festival , saying he was not responsible for safety planning and watching for possible dangers at the Houston event.

But attorneys for relatives of one of the 10 people killed during a massive crowd surge at the festival said Scott ignored safety concerns and threatened to release online the personal information of anyone who would cancel the event over safety concerns.

Stephen Brody, an attorney for Scott, said the rap star remains “devastated” and “heartbroken” by the tragic events of Nov. 5, 2021, when authorities and festival organizers tried to shut down the show and stop the surge.

The families of the 10 people who died, as well as hundreds who were injured, sued Scott and Live Nation — the festival’s promoter — as well as dozens of other individuals and entities.

During a court hearing before state District Judge Kristen Hawkins, Brody argued that Scott and his touring and production company, XX Global, should be dismissed from the case. They said his duties and responsibilities related to the festival were outlined as performing, marketing, curating talent for the event, providing for his own personal security and approving all creative matters involving the festival.

“And that’s it,” Brody said.

During the concert, Scott, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, did stop his performance four times to check on issues he saw in the crowd, including some people who appeared to be in distress, according to Brody.

“Did he have show pause authority?” Hawkins asked Brody.

He could stop performing and wait to see if an issue of concern had been resolved, Brody said.

But Brody added the festival’s organizers as well as Houston police also had the ability to turn on the lights or cut off the sound if they thought something was wrong.

Noah Wexler, an attorney for the family of Madison Dubiski , 23, said Scott’s contract defined him as a co-promoter of the festival with Live Nation and as a promoter, he was responsible for the event’s safety under Texas rules.

Wexler alleged that Scott in a May 5, 2021, tweet that was sent after tickets for Astroworld had sold out instigated his fans to on the day of the show break into the festival grounds, writing, “we still sneaking the wild ones in.”

Wexler said this created dangerous conditions for a festival that was “massively oversold” and was part of a “conscious disregard for safety.”

Wexler alleged that Scott and his manager, David Stromberg, created dangerous safety conditions by insisting that Scott be the only musical act to use the main stage on the festival’s first day, a situation that could create crowd flow problems. Scott and Stromberg were also accused of threatening to dox any festival organizers who would cancel the show over safety concerns.

In a deposition, Stromberg said his doxxing comments were a joke made in “poor taste.”

Brody said safety concerns raised over Scott being the only person to use the main stage were fixed.

Wexler also accused Scott and his team backstage of ignoring orders from festival organizers to stop the concert at 10 p.m.

In a deposition, Scott said he was never told as he was onstage that there were people in the crowd who were dead and he needed to stop the show at 10 p.m.

Scott said he was told to end the show after hip-hop guest artist Drake performed. The concert didn’t end until 10:12 p.m.

“It’s one of the worst days for not just me but for a lot of people, families, the city. It was just -- it was just a bad day overall,” Scott said in a deposition in September.

Attorneys for other individuals and companies tied to the festival also asked Hawkins on Monday to be dismissed from the case. Hawkins was expected to issue a ruling on Scott’s motion and the others at a later date.

Last week, Hawkins dismissed lawsuits against Drake and several other individuals and companies involved in the show.

After an investigation by Houston police, no charges were filed against Scott and a grand jury declined to indict him and five other people on any criminal counts related to the deadly concert.

Those killed, who ranged in age from 9 to 27, died from compression asphyxia , which an expert likened to being crushed by a car.

The lawsuit filed by Dubiski’s family is set to be the first one to go to trial on May 6.

Some of the lawsuits filed by the families of the dead and the hundreds who were injured have been settled , including those filed by the families of four of the dead.

Travis Scott Must Face Astroworld Lawsuits, Judge Rules—Here’s What’s Happened Since The Fatal Concert

T ravis Scott, a rapper and founder of the Astroworld Festival, could be held responsible in a civil lawsuit over the deaths of 10 people at the 2021 rendition of the concert after a judge denied his request to be dismissed from the case because he claimed he had no role in security decisions made for the show.

April 24, 2024 Houston Judge Kristen Hawkins ruled Scott, born Jacques Bermon Webster II, could be held civilly responsible in lawsuits filed against him over his role in the deaths of 10 people at the Astroworld festival in 2021—denying his lawyer’s requests.

April 15, 2024 Scott’s lawyers asked for the rapper to be dismissed from the lawsuits filed by families and victims of the Astroworld festival incident, arguing he was responsible only for creative aspects of the festival and not any of the safety failures that led to the deaths and injuries.

April 10, 2024 Drake, who was still performing with Scott after the Houston Police Department declared a mass-casualty event, was dismissed from a class-action lawsuit after his lawyers argued he was not part of festival planning and was not responsible for any decisions made around security or crowd control.

April 10, 2024 Epic Records, Scott and Drake’s record label, was also dismissed.

April 8, 2024 A district judge dismissed several defendants in the suit against Astroworld's organizers.

March 20, 2024 Documents filed to support civil lawsuits against the concert revealed safety officials were concerned about the number of people near the stage before the festival took place and miscalculated the number of people allowed to be within safety codes, instead allowing 50,000 to cram into a space meant for 34,500, according to the BBC.

July 28, 2023 The Houston Police Department released its 1,266-page report into the Astroworld festival, finding that police tried to warn Live Nation the festival was too large for the venue, that unconscious fans were being lifted out of the crowd and mosh pits even before Scott's performance began and that radio communications shared with Scott throughout the show did convey people had died.

June 29, 2023 A Harris County grand jury failed to indict Scott on any criminal charges connected to the concert, instead finding that "no single individual was criminally responsible" for the deaths or injuries.

May 7, 2022 Travis Scott performed for the first time after Astroworld at a Miami Grand Prix celebration.

Dec. 16, 2021 The cause of death for the 10 people who died at the concert was found to be compression asphyxia , caused by external pressure cutting off air from the body.

Nov. 28, 2021 A $2 billion lawsuit by hundreds of injured victims was filed in a state court in Houston.

Nov. 16, 2021 Harris County commissioners rejected Houston Judge Lina Hidalgo’s request for an independent investigation to be done into the festival and what went wrong.

Nov. 7, 2021 A vigil was held for the victims of the Astroworld tragedy at Annunciation Catholic Church in Houston.

Nov. 5, 2021 A total of 10 people aged 9 to 27 died after an over-capacity crowd rushed the stage during a Travis Scott performance at NRG Park in Houston.

What To Watch For

The first trial from the civil lawsuits is scheduled for May 6, according to the Associated Press.

Key Background

Fifty thousand fans visited NRG Park for the third year of Travis Scott's Astroworld Festival, with a lineup set to include Bad Bunny, Tame Impala and Earth, Wind & Fire, among others. Scott was set to perform on the first night of the festival, Nov. 5, and fans started assembling outside of the mainstage before his 9 p.m. show, ABC News reported. At about 9 p.m., the show began and Scott could be seen on the Apple livestream of the concert stopping his performance several times in response to fans passing out or needing medical attention. The crowd rushing worsened, according to ABC , and Houston Police were responding to reports of a mass casualty event as of roughly 9:40 p.m. At around 10 p.m., Drake appeared on stage. Scott did not stop performing until about 10:15 p.m., though several reports claim he was told of what was happening on stage and that the crowd was chanting “Stop the show! Stop the show!” A spokesperson for the rapper later said Scott didn't have the authority to stop the show. Scott released a statement on Instagram the day after the performance and said he was "absolutely devastated." The first lawsuit against him was filed that day. At least four families have settled lawsuits in relation to their loved one’s death, the Associated Press reported.

Scott has repeatedly said he did not know about the tragedy unfolding in the crowd until after the show was over. Scott told police he did see one person near the stage getting medical attention but otherwise did not know about the widespread nature of the issue. He said he did not hear any of the "Stop the show!" chants from the crowd, and would have done so had he known. In November of 2023, Scott reflected on the incident in an interview with GQ and said "I always think about it. Those fans were like my family. You know, I love my fans to the utmost.” A song called " My Eyes ," released last year, includes a reference to the tragedy: "I replay them nights, and right by my side, all I see is a sea of people that ride wit' me. If they just knew what Scotty would do to jump off the stage and save him a child." A lawyer for Scott did not immediately respond to Forbes’ request for comment Monday.

2. That's how many times Scott had been arrested on charges related to inciting a crowd before the 2021 concert. Scott was arrested at Lollapalooza in 2015 after encouraging fans to jump barriers (he pleaded guilty and paid a fine) and was again arrested in 2017 for prompting fans to overrun security at a show (he again pleaded guilty and paid a fine).

Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott and Playboi Carti are set to headline Rolling Loud Europe , scheduled to take place from July 5-7 in Ebreichsdorf, Austria.

The event, which will take place near Vienna at the venue Rancino, will also feature a lineup of artists from all over the globe. Stateside stars include Ice Spice, Gunna, Offset, Sexyy Red, Chief Keef, Ski Mask the Slump God, Lil Tjay, Don Toliver, Flo Milli, TiaCorine, Destroy Lonely and Anycia.

The fest will also welcome acts from the United Kingdom including K-Trap and Unknown T, as well as worldwide musicians Money Boy, Gola Gianni, Ufo 361, Pashanim, Reezy, Shirin David, Rondodasosa and Fresh.

Popular on Variety

Rolling Loud has staged numerous global festivals during its decade-long tenure, including events in Canada, the Netherlands, Portugal, Australia, Germany and Thailand. The festival will return to Thailand from Nov. 22-24, and circle back to Miami on Dec. 13-15.

Most recently, the festival swung by Inglewood, CA last month, boasting headliners including Minaj, Post Malone and Future and Metro Boomin. The event got off to a rocky start with an added date dedicated to Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign, who simply stood on stage while their latest collaborative album, “Vultures 1,” blared through the soundsystem. But the rest of the fest made up for it, with Minaj giving an impassioned, condensed version of her set from the current Pink Friday 2 tour.

Tickets will be available to the general public for Rolling Loud Europe starting on Friday, April 12 at 6 a.m. ET.

Judge declines to dismiss lawsuits filed against rapper Travis Scott over deadly Astroworld concert

A judge has declined to dismiss hundreds of lawsuits filed against rap star Travis Scott over his role in the deadly 2021 Astroworld festival in which 10 people were killed in a crowd surge

HOUSTON -- A judge has declined to dismiss hundreds of lawsuits filed against rap star Travis Scott over his role in the deadly 2021 Astroworld festival in which 10 people were killed in a crowd surge.

State District Judge Kristen Hawkins issued a one-page order denying Scott's request that he and his touring and production company, XX Global, should be dropped from the case. The order was signed on Tuesday but made public on Wednesday.

Scott’s attorneys had argued during an April 15 hearing that he was not responsible for safety planning and watching for possible dangers at the concert on Nov. 5, 2021.

They argued Scott’s duties and responsibilities related to the festival only dealt with creative aspects, including performing and marketing.

However, Noah Wexler, an attorney for the family of Madison Dubiski, 23, one of the 10 people killed, said Scott, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, had a “conscious disregard for safety” at the sold-out festival. Wexler argued Scott encouraged people who didn’t have tickets to break in and ignored orders from festival organizers to stop the concert when told to do so as people in the crowd were hurt or dying.

Earlier this month, Hawkins dismissed lawsuits against Drake and several other individuals and companies involved in the show.

The lawsuit filed by Dubiski’s family is set to be the first one to go to trial on May 6.

The families of the 10 people who died, plus hundreds who were injured, sued Scott and Live Nation — the festival’s promoter — as well as dozens of other individuals and entities.

After an investigation by Houston police, no charges were filed against Scott, and a grand jury declined to indict him and five other people on any criminal counts related to the deadly concert.

Those killed, who ranged in age from 9 to 27, died from compression asphyxia, which an expert likened to being crushed by a car.

Some of the lawsuits filed by the families of the dead and the hundreds who were injured have been settled, including those filed by the families of four of the dead.
