Amsterdam and Paris Tour

  • Coach / Bus

Amsterdam and Paris

The tour was a great experience! We met people for different parts of the world and it was really fun. They picked some great locations for everyone to stay with breakfast included. I would suggest adding pre/post accommodations because it does feel rushed. I got to spend two extra days in Amsterdam before the trip and got to do what I wanted to do and see in AMS. When the tour started it took the whole morning and afternoon so I definitely recommend spending some nights before to get a good feel of the city. Going to Brussels was fun, we just stopped to visit the city center on our way to France and it was really beautiful and got to see the blood of Jesus. We also stayed 2 extra nights in Paris and got to see and go to the famous museums (Louvre, Opera House, Catacombs, and go to the top of the Eiffel Tower). Overall fun experience and definitely suggest this tour.

Paris and London Tour

Paris and London

Our guide was hard to understand. She left us in a location when we weren’t even late to the bus, yet would often leave us waiting on the bus while she searched for other people. Not sure how you qualify for the special treatment instead of being left in a foreign city. In addition, I had my 72-year-old mother with me. The guide always took off without waiting for everyone to get off the bus, leaving the rest of us scrambling to keep up. The transport service to the hotel in Paris was substandard. Even after I kept in constant touch with him, the driver left us because immigration took too long. Another driver was found but left us waiting while he searched the airport for other people. Once in the van, he was texting on his phone the entire time, which made us nervous. The Hilton in Paris was wonderful. The Novotel was also nice but the Ibis hotels were substandard, especially the one in Rouen. The transport from the hotel to Heathrow was wonderful.

Cruise was great. The crew were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. The tours were well planned, and even though there were a few technical problems, the staff worked very hard to make things go as smoothly as possible.

Paris , Oh La La! | 5 Days Tour

Paris , Oh La La! | 5 Days

Overall we enjoyed our tour. I found your website prompt and helpful in responding to my pre-tour queries. Our tour guide worked hard to maximize our exposure to the sites. At times however, he tried to cover too much. Instead of taking us to 20 churches, consider maybe 10. Instead of showing and explaining the architecture of 25 buildings, choose the 15 best,. Otherwise it becomes somewhat repetitive. Juan did manage to include all of the most important and best known sites of Paris. We were very pleased with his service to us.

What people love about Paris Tours

It was a very comfortable and enjoyable cruise. The service staff were very friendly and attentive. The fellow passengers were very friendly and sociable which makes the whole cruise line one big happy family.
It was a really good experience. This is my second trip with Eskapas. The first one was a small group tour fully escorted in Italy and it was wonderful. This trip is independent and you are joining at the meeting point to daily group ours. If you have send of orientation, it may be difficult so I recommend yo to take a taxi to reach out to the meeting points. Usually it costs 15-20Euro. The company upgraded our hotel to New Hotel Le Voltaire 4* ,, located in 11th Arrondissement, close to Bastille. It is a correct one, decent breakfast. Don't miss Cimetiere du Pere-Lachaise which is close proximity.
Everything about this tour was excellent. The planned trips, the optional trips, the airport transfers, the guides were all top notch. We packed a lot into a week yet, had enough free time. Everything was well planned and kept to schedule. Bruno, our tour guide was charming and informative and kept us on track. Marco our coach drive was a safe and skilled driver. The specialist guides for certain excursions were topnotch. Bruno coordinated all the guides, driver, and venue hosts with efficiency. It was a trip of my dreams for my granddaughter and myself!

Paris 2024 Olympics: flights, tickets, accommodation - everything you need to know to go

Vivian Song

trips to paris 2024

The Paris 2024 Olympics will be like no other before. Here’s how to put together a trip to be a part of it © SOPA Images / Getty Images

You’ve read about all the ways the Paris 2024 Olympics will set groundbreaking new precedents next year. And you’ve decided you want to be a part of history and attend the events in person.

Where to start?

There’s no need to panic. We’ve compiled a step-by-step guide that breaks down all the elements – flights, tickets, accommodation – that will make your trip planning more manageable.

What documents do I need to prepare for my visit to the Paris 2024 Olympics?

Holders of American, Canadian, British and (of course) EU passports can travel to France

visa-free if their stay is less than 90 days. If you’re not from any of these countries, the government has a clever portal called the “ visa wizard ” that will tell you if you need a visa for your visit, and the kinds of travel documents you’ll need to bring.

Marseille-Michael A Frankel-stadium.jpeg

Where are the Paris 2024 Olympics taking place?

In Paris , the games will be spread out across 15 Olympic and 11 Paralympic sites and extend beyond the Paris perimeter to suburbs like Les Yvelines to Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-et-Marne and Seine-St-Denis.

Certain events such as soccer, handball, basketball and sailing will be held in Bordeaux , Nantes , Lyon , St-Etienne, Nice and Marseille .

The surfing competition will be held in the overseas territory of Tahiti .

When do the Paris 2024 Olympic Games take place?

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games take place between July 26 and August 11, with the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games right after, from August 28 to September 8.

Where do I buy tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympics?

First things first: if you haven’t already bought your tickets to the games, you’ll need to create an account and register on the games’ official site . Keep in mind that all ticket sales will go now through a single portal . Organizers warn that if you buy tickets outside the main ticketing site, you run the risk of being denied entry, and that unauthorized ticket resales constitute an offense under French law.

At this point, there have already been three phases of ticket sales . The first two were lottery-based sales and required early registration. Round three opened in early July on a first-come, first-serve basis for four events that will take place outside of Paris: basketball and handball ( Lille ); soccer (Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes Nice, St-Etienne) and sailing (Marseille). At the time of writing, tickets are still available.

Originally scheduled to take place in late 2023, this latest sales phase was pulled forward due to higher-than-expected demand: organizers say over half of the 10 million tickets available were snapped up in the preceding two rounds.

Don’t forget that a resale platform will also open in the spring of 2024, so if you weren’t able to get tickets to your preferred event, you might still be able to.

Next year’s Olympics will also see four new additional events added to the games roster, including breaking , skateboarding , sport climbing and surfing .

Traveling in a large group? Take note that the ticketing system only allows you to buy a maximum of six tickets per online session – though you are allowed to max out at 30 tickets per account. Ticket prices vary according to sport, category and tournament round, starting at €24 and topping out at around  €980. Check out the price guide here .

Tickets for the Paralympic Games open October 9 and will be sold in real time on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Presentation-of-the-logo-on-the-Arc-de-Triomphe.jpg

What should I know before booking tickets for different Paris 2024 events?

Be careful about being too ambitious when booking several events on the same day, and make sure to factor in enough travel time between venues. Along with commute times, organizers recommend arriving at competition venues at least 1.5 hours before the start of the event.

To help spectators plan their itinerary, organizers have created a tool (still being rolled out) that will allow attendees to estimate the travel time between any two competition sites. An app that will offer suggested routes between venues will also launch closer to the games.

Why you should book your Paris 2024 Olympics accommodations now

Though we’re still a year out, the earlier you book, the better: prices for Airbnb listings and hotel rooms have already spiked to eye watering rates. According to  Le Parisien , a 1130-sq-ft apartment near the Stade de France in Seine-St-Denis is listed at €600 a night compared to the usual €130–170.

Airbnb says that demand soared immediately after the opening of the second phase of ticket sales, with searches for stays during the games increasing ninefold in just four days.

The top five guest countries of origin for booked stays during the games so far include the USA, followed by Germany, the UK, France and the Netherlands. The average length of stay for European guests is six days, while the average stay for those outside the continent is eight days.

Hotel group Accor, whose brands include Sofitel, Mercure, Novotel and Ibis, is the official partner of the Paris Olympics and has already opened up reservations for next year. The group has 411 hotels, and 50,000 rooms in the Île-de-France region .

Bookings have also opened for the group’s long-stay-rental service Adagio, which specializes in “apart-hotels” that can accommodate up to 12 guests, depending on the location.

The-Olympic-seine----Paris-2024--Florian-Hulleu.jpg.jpg

How to book your accommodations for the Paris 2024 Olympics

We now get to one of the big planning challenges of your trip: being strategic about finding the right place to stay.

We’ll break it down into two large categories: the stress-free but pricier option in which the hard work is done for you, and the do-it-yourself hands-on vacation that will require a lot more leg work.

Let someone else do the planning for you

First, if budget allows and you’re looking for a hands-off approach to your Olympics experience, book with the event’s official hospitality partner On Location , which will do as much of the travel planning as you see fit.

All-inclusive travel packages include everything from accommodation, airport transfers, pre-selected tickets to competitive games, a personalized tour of Paris and transportation to and from the games. Packages range from three- to five-star levels of service and accommodations, and from one- to six-night stays. Other add-ons include tickets to the opening ceremony.

Individual hospitality packages, meanwhile, are simply add-on experiences to your sporting-event ticket and include access to private suites or shared lounges at competition venues, with extras like entertainment, food and beverages.

If you’re keen to attend the opening ceremony – which, for the first time in Olympic history, will take place outside a stadium – On Location has also created special packages for the historic event on the Seine river.

Tickets for the Riverside and Bridge 360 packages don’t come cheap, ranging from €5750 to €11,000. For such a price, though, you can expect guaranteed tickets offering premium views and seats along the lower quay. Around 400,000 spectators – 100,000 fewer than initially announced, due to security concerns – are expected to line the upper quays, where viewing will be free and open to the general public.

Take the hands-on approach

If that’s out of your price range, start your accommodation search by thinking about the events you’ll be attending.

The tourist office of Seine-St-Denis – site of the Olympic village, the Stade de France and the Olympic Aquatics Center, among others – has created a handy site powered by Booking.com that groups accommodations near some of the major hosting venues around the city, including the Stade de France, the Olympic Aquatics Center, Roland Garros and the Parc des Princes. If most of your events are at the Parc des Princes, for instance, save yourself the trouble of a sweaty, busy commute along with thousands of other spectators by booking something within walking distance to the stadium.

Similarly, at the end of this FAQ document prepared by the Paris tourist office, you’ll also find a useful interactive map showing the Olympic venues in the city, with suggestions of nearby hotels and restaurants.

You might want to apply the same principle if you plan to stay overnight in host cities outside Paris and book a room or rental near the major venues. Keep in mind, however, that several host cities are just a few hours from Paris by train, and can be done as day trips as well (more on that later).

Are the Paris 2024 Olympics accessible?

Yes. Every competition venue will feature a drop-off zone and dedicated priority line for those with disabilities. Spectators will be escorted to their seat, which will be assigned in a designated space that comes with good visibility.

France-Paris-EQRoy-shutterstock1477200476-RFE.jpg

All you need to know about France’s rail system

Keep in mind that France’s ban on domestic short-haul flights of under 2.5 hours for trips that can be completed by train came into force this spring. That means that if your Olympic events are in cities like Nantes, Bordeaux and Lyon, your only option (unless you plan to drive yourself) is the train. Luckily, this also happens to be the easier and less stressful method of transportation.

That said, the different rail operators in France can cause confusion. Here’s a quick primer on the different rail lines and operators:

  • The SNCF is the national rail service and operates the country’s high-speed TGV trains. A trip from Paris to Lyon on a high-speed train, for, instance, takes about two hours. This will be your first stop when looking up train tickets to other host cities.
  • Inoui designates premium seats and service.
  • Ouigo is the low-cost version of the SNCF, but tickets and times are more limited.
  • Trains operated by Intercité serve cities without high-speed train routes and connect major cities without the need to transit from Paris. Routes include Nantes–Bordeaux and Toulouse –Marseille. The outfit also operates night-train services connecting Paris with cities like Nice, Lourdes and Toulouse.
  • TER (Transport Express Régional) trains connect cities and smaller towns within the country’s 12 regions in metropolitan France.
  • Transilien is the equivalent of the TER but for the region of Île-de-France.
  • The RER (Réseau Express Régional) is a commuter line that operates within Paris and its suburbs.

Paris Olympics train station chart

The logistics of planning a trip for the Olympics may seem daunting at first, but knowing your options and understanding how all the systems – for match ticketing, accommodations and transportation – work will hopefully make the picture clearer so that you can look forward to being a part of history.

The Time to Plan Your Paris Olympics Trip Is Right Now — Here's All the Intel on Tickets, Events, and Where to Stay

The Paris Olympics don’t kick off until July 2024, but smart travelers should start making plans now.

In less than a year, millions of spectators will descend on the French capital for what is poised to be the event of the decade: the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. How big will these games be? They’re so major that the final stage of the Tour de France will be moved, for the first time ever, from the Champs-Élysées all the way to Nice, on the Côte d’Azur.

Of course, the city is no stranger to massive crowds: last year, more than 44 million people visited Paris and the surrounding Île-de-France region, a figure about 10 percent shy of the city’s pre-COVID numbers. Still, with what is sure to be heavy security and packed roads, trains, and bike lanes, navigating the arrondissements next summer will take some serious finesse.

If you’re planning to attend, one challenge to tackle ASAP is accommodation. Rooms in many of the best hotels have already been snapped up by Olympic partners and other VIPs. Even mid-tier properties have seen their inventory dwindle: the funky 25Hours Hotel Paris Terminus Nord, for example, has been booked solid since early 2023 because it’s directly across from the Gare du Nord, the train station that visitors, organizers, and the media will use to reach the Olympic and Paralympic Villages, just outside the city.

Many hotels do still have space — though often with minimum-stay requirements and eye-watering prices. Shopping around is easy with Accor — whose brands include MGallery , Sofitel , and Swissôtel — because the group has 410 hotels in the Paris metro area. Airbnb , which many travelers think of as a value option, may prove as costly as hotels next summer: a 2023 study by Deloitte forecasts an 85 percent spike in rates on the platform across greater Paris during the Olympics. It may pay to consider apartment-rental firms such as Le Collectionist , HighStay , Onefinestay (another Accor brand), and Sonder .

If you’d rather leave the logistics to someone else, the official hospitality partner for the Olympics is On Location , a sports and events company owned by Endeavor, the entertainment firm. On Location is offering an array of travel packages, including some that bundle not only event tickets and accommodations but also perks like VIP access to the opening ceremony. That kind of five-star experience doesn’t come cheap: at press time, the most affordable option was a three-night package for $19,865 per person.

A version of this story appeared in the November 2023 issue of Travel + Leisure under the headline "On Your Marks."

  • Trains and buses offer easy and quick access to both Orly and Charles de Gaulle. Both SNCF and RER B trains connect directly to CDG, while RER B and C trains and Tramway 7 connect to Orly. There is a Multifaith Prayer Area at the Arrivals Level of Terminal 4 and Multifaith Offices at Gate H of Terminal 4 and Level 2 of Terminal 1.
  • Passengers disembarking at Paris Orly Airport are greeted by artwork displayed at the Paris Orly South Terminal. The sketches give the airport life, transforming travelers’ experiences.

Top 5 airlines flying to paris.

I'm a larger, athletic guy (6'2", 260lbs powerlifter) and I found the seats incredibly uncomfortable with minimal leg room, especially in a window seat. Now, I full understand that being smaller may change my view but even if I was 80lbs less, my legs would be the same size and I was sandwiched between my seat and the seat in front of me.

Horrible. This was not first class. This was a connecting flight whi h was late. My original flight never came. I hated the fact that delta gave me a connecting flight from New York to Orlando Florida. No meals and the television screens were not working. There wasn't even any power to charge your phones. This is NOT FIRST CLASS DELTA!!! Do better next time!

This flight was ridiculous. I had to have a connecting flight from New York to orlando Florida??? The flight left late and because it was a short flight there was no first class amenities. I had one alcohol drink. The flight crew was fine, but it sure did not feel like first class. Delta to me dropped the ball by giving me a connecting flight. By the time we got to Raleigh we would have missed the next flight. Lucky for me the flight never came so now I was stuck waiting for a later flight that came in late also.

Our flight was delayed in Atlanta. The staff could have gave us an explanation for the delay and how long it would be.

I liked the ease of checking in, luggage check in, wheel chair assistance, boarding and flight.

On my way home I had a layover. The flight from ATL to CLT was amended 5x while I was waiting. I could have driven home sooner. Overall from Dallas, Tx to Charlotte, NC I started my trip at 4:30pm, I didn’t get home until past midnight. I know things happen, but 5x to make me run back and forth in an airport from different terminals is excessive. I also upgraded to comfort + , I didn’t feel it was worth it. There was no benefit

They did a fine job. Can't wait to use Delta in the future.

There was a loud squeaky sound the whole time we were flying.

Had a broken tray in business class. Crew just shrugged it off.

Old cabine without flat bed in business for a 12 hour flight is not acceptable

Generally good. The crew is excellent. The food could be better.

Did not find the wheelchair that supposed to assist and went to a long queue for transit security chk which was very slow and boarding desk wanted to close counter although that they knew that I am minutes away because of their mistake of not providing the wheelchair.

Boarding was smooth and on time. The seat was comfortable and the entertainment worked. Staff were gracious.

Business class in the second leg - CDG-EVN was a disaster.

I have used Air France and KLM many times it will help if they change their menu's feel like it's been the same for years!!!, Especially the breakfast. Overall the flight was good and enjoyable.

No birding was given for next trip on same carrier, food was very moderate.

We transited through Chad and what was supposed to be a 1hr 20 minutes transit time lasted over 4hrs. We didn't get regular updates until we complained. After a 10hr flight from Paris no form of refreshment given and finally arrived Abuja over 6hrs later and none of my bags came

The line at boarding was not well organized and managed

Sky priority means you get to use the KLM business Lounge.

Not being able to get a different seat with above average height unless I would pay for a seat ($41). Poor included beverage choice. Food: I’m am not picky in terms of food but that was the most horrific set of options ever experienced, for me and my fellow passengers. In my row no one was able to finish their food. Literal dog-grade chow. If you want to be cheap, at this point provide us with actual COMBAT RATIONS. You would save money, passengers would get enough food and better taste.

Nice travel , but would have been better if luggage was included in the price and not an extra charge..

Norse Atlantic is the worst airline I’ve ever traveled with, and i travel a lot. First, they made me check my carry on duffle (never had a problem before) because my backpack they said “isn’t a personal item”. It fits under the seat so yes it is a personal item. $125€ for the duffle and $125€ for my wife’s checked bag, $250€ for two bags, RIPOFF! Once on the flight we got delayed 45mins because the attendants/airline were giving a handicap gentleman a hard time about his scooter which they had already given him permission to bring on board. He also stated he’s never had this problem, & after a lengthy discussion they finally realized they were wrong since it wasn’t ion battery operated and he had all the paperwork. Eventually they allowed him to stow it above his seat which they watched his wife struggle with for over a minute before they helped her. Also, Make sure you purchase food in advance! This airline is EVERYTHING for purchase, from WATER to SNACKS to BLANKETS. Yes, WATER. International flight and not a single thing free. People were literally lining up to the bathroom with empty water bottles to fill up in the sink. The Aircraft was criminally FREEZING as if they intentionally jacked up the air so people would buy $7€ blankets. People were changing into layers in the bathroom & bringing down their carry-ons so they could find layers in their suitcases. Those that didn’t have layers in their bag or had to check their bags had to endure an 8.5hr torture session from Rome to JFK. Add all that to the ridiculous timing of turning on the lights (red eye) so they could come down the aisle with duty “free” options for purchase. A hot topic between passengers while waiting to deboard/get through customs. I wouldn’t fly Norse Atlantic Airways again if they paid me.

I payed for luggage but there was additional luggage charge this wasn’t clear when i purchased.

The crew from Norse was absolutely great! Friendly, respectful and professional! They helped me resolve my baggage issue in Fiumicino, which was a long process and one of the counter girls was her first day at work 😌 they were all great. And later, when they found my 87 year old mom who got completely lost at Fiumicino in a different terminal, all by herself.. they were patient and kind and treated everyone with respect and care. Grazie Norse!!

Crew was excellent, very friendly and professional. Seating was very tight…I’m not a tall person and my knees were touching the seat in front of me. A little bit more legroom would be great.

Chaotic check in. It took an extra hour to haul all across large LAX airport three different times back & fourth. Had no access to duty free shop.

Great flight for great price. Only thing they need is on board Wi-Fi and an app.

It was cold, blankets would have been a big plus.

Airline was unable to check me in, even though I had a valid US visa which they called to confirm. Their system still did not allow check in. If you have a visa don’t travel on this airline. Will be seeking a refund.

did not get the seats we had specially paid for

This is a no frills airline. You cant expect much for the price. Low cost flight, clean, nice staff. That's all I need for the price. If you want more, book with another airline and pay more. For Europe trips, PLAY is the ONLY airline I use

Misleading instructions for check in. Although I did virtual check in and was instructed to head to security, once I was at security, they told me to go back to Play ticket counter and get paper tickets. Also, beware that Play doesn’t participate in TSA PreCheck. I didn’t know that, despite entering PreCheck info when I purchased the tickets. I wasted time in the TSA PreCheck line as well. So we had two setbacks at check in.

It's a budget airline, so forewarned is forearmed. Yes, you pay for everything like carry-on, checked baggage, seat selection, but that's becoming the case with major airlines. Bringing your own snacks and entertainment on board is highly recommended. It's no frills, but the crew, the plane and the flight itself was great. If you want pampering go for a larger airline. If you just want to get from A to B in comfort and safety, Play is a great choice.

It is a low cost airline. Staff are courteous. There is no entertainment. Food is purchased.

Upon boarding, the people at the gate were extremely rude, there were no outlets on a 6 hour international flight, there was no entertainment, all food and drink was purchase only (even snacks), and my seat reclining function was fully broken. The only redeeming quality was the flight attendants were extremely nice. This was by far the worst flight I have ever been on in my entire life

I don’t know how international flights can’t have media screens to keep people entertained for the long flight. Ugh.

Typical experience for budget airline. Boarding from KEF required bus transit from the gate to plane, so if you had "priority boarding" it was useless as it was simply a free-for-all when getting off the bus. But still no issues with getting our luggage into overhead bin so not really a problem.

Was very apprehensive about flying Play, but the flight was fine. Nothing special, nothing horrible. Fair price to get from New York to Iceland.

I wasn’t able to check in online the day before or the day of because their web configuration or business model idk. I arrived an hour early and check was closed and there was no one around to speak to and eventually was told there was no possible way to get a digital ticket despite I had no luggage to check and would have easily made it through security to boarding and had to pay for a new ticket for $330 ontop of the $169 I spend for the ticket and then I missed my rental car for $305 because I only arrived at midnight instead of noon that I was originally intended. All booked through kayak. I hope there is some kind of insurance from kayak because this was totally preventable had I not been blocked by play air from getting my check in and plane ticket.

everything is an extra cost on this flight, you need to pay to have a your children sit next to you (they won’t change the seat for your kids to sit next to you without charging you), food is an extra you need to pay for on a 12 hour flight, no drinks or snacks throughout the flight, the media selection is subpar and your phone has more options

Many families including ours we seated separately. For kids entertainment only 2 cartoons for 11 hour flight. Checked bag $100 each. Everything else was fine

The boarding process was completely disorganized, adding avoidable stress, and the airline's business model is tight spaces, but seats that recline more to make sleep easier in economy. The passenger behind us did not understand that and shook our chair saying we're reclining too much. We immediately brought the flight attendants in to mediate and deescalate the situation, and they didn't. The passenger behind us kept harassing my wife throughout the 8 hour flight. They should be better trained in this regard if this is the airline's business model and promise to passengers like us who review leg space and reclining angles before purchasing a fare on the airline.

The orthopedic sits, no room to move, no reclining, was horrible and because that I'm still in pain and aches in my whole body

Seats were uncomfortable. Lower back support would be nice. It was the usual for an airplane. Other than that, everything was wonderful. Even my kids said the food was good! Nice to get a blanket and set of earbuds.

Flight got canceled, took us 3 hrs in line to give us vouchers for hotel and meals, which was chaotic and then went to hotel and the voucher did not work at hotel, had to pay and apply for reimbursement and waiting for payment

Better than expected from a low cost airline! The food, seat and overall experience was great! I would fly with them again.

We were there on time we checked in early online and when we got to the airport we only had one code ticket and not the other one, the people at the desk didn’t want to print the other ticket since we didn’t have it on the phone

One of the world’s most visited places, The City of Light is home to an incomparable heritage of historic sights, iconic monuments and splendid attractions. It’s a dream destination for travelers looking for a unique cultural journey that blends ancient and modern treasures. From the Eiffel Tower’s signature spire to the Arc de Triomphe — the symbol of France, Paris has more recognizable landmarks than any other city in the world.

Stroll down the Champs-Elysees, sip a  cafe au lait  on the Boulevard Saint Germain, glide on a riverboat down the Seine, or spend a day at The Louvre. Take in the view from the 905-foot-tall Eiffel Tower. Be stunned by the eerie gargoyles of Notre Dame. Tour Musee d’Orsay’s vibrant collection of masterpieces by Courbet, Monet and Seurat.

Paris is a wonderful city for walking. Wander through little alleyways and squares, before stopping for a snack or just to window shop. The city is relatively flat, except near Montmartre, and there are sidewalk cafes on just about every street. Rail tickets to and from Amsterdam, Brussels and London are available to add to your package. We also offer tours, museum passes and excursions like Seine cruises and wine tours.

Paris is one of the finest cities in the world for shopping. If your goal is to find something chic and exquisite, you won’t be disappointed. For intimate boutique shopping, head for the Marais 4th arrondissement, and for exclusive designer shops, the 8th arrondissement is the place to go. Whether it’s shopping in legendary department stores, artsy flea markets or along the glamorous Champs-Elysees, retail therapy is serious business in Paris.

The French love their food — fresh-baked baguettes, decadent chocolates, aged cheeses, superb wine, hors d’oeuvres and fine-dining specialties — and you will too. For food and wine connoisseurs, nothing surpasses Paris. Tiny bistros, world-famous restaurants and even street-side creperie stands all offer a tantalizing treat for the taste buds. Enjoy a lovely French dinner at a restaurant in the Eiffel Tower, followed by a Seine River cruise.

Join in the Parisian nightlife, ranging from quiet wine bars to pulsating nightclubs and a show-stopping performance at the Moulin Rouge. Or, travel to Reims and Epernay for an afternoon of champagne tasting.

Delta Vacations flight + hotel packages include round-trip airfare aboard a Delta Partner Airline to Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) or Paris Orly Airport (ORY). Round-trip transfers between the airport and hotel in a motor coach, minibus or private car are available for purchase.

Paris Olympic Games 2024: Everything you need to know to enjoy your trip to France

Inspiration

Sporting Activities

Billetterie, hébergements, formalités, retrouvez les bons conseils pour réussir son séjour en France pendant les JO 2024.

Reading time: 0 min Published on 15 March 2024, updated on 22 April 2024

For the first time since 1924, Paris is preparing to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. From 26 July 2024 and for 45 days, the City of Light and the whole of France will be celebrating this global event, bringing together 10,500 athletes and 4,400 para-athletes. The 13 million ticket holders who have gone on sale will be in for a spectacular and emotional time. Provided they have planned ahead. Buying tickets, accommodation, transport... We tell you everything you need to know to enjoy a hassle-free competition.

10 million tickets for sale on a single website

If you're eagerly anticipating the 2024 Olympics and wish to attend any of the events, it's important to exercise caution. Only purchase tickets for the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris 2024 from the official website official website , which follows a strict and monitored procedure. The “Official Ticketing of the Paris 2024 Games” is an exclusive, 100% digital, and secure platform operated by the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, catering to spectators worldwide. Avoid purchasing tickets through any other sales channels. Be wary of third-party websites offering tickets and report any such scams on the Signal Conso Platform for consumer fraud. If you're a fraud victim, file a preliminary complaint with the police Pré-Plainte .

Important information: Beware of purchasing tickets or packages outside of official channels, you run the risk of paying a significantly higher price than the face value, buying a counterfeit or electronically resold ticket, and being denied access to Olympic venues. Consider yourself warned: Paris 2024 will not issue any refunds in case of fraud.

Hospitality Options

In addition to individual tickets, there is an official program called “Hospitality Paris 2024” offering packages open to all. These packages guarantee tickets to attend the majority of Olympic sporting events, combined with access to hospitality services on competition sites or in the heart of cities (accommodation, transportation, gastronomy, tourist activities, etc.). Hospitality offers and Paris 2024 travel packages are available on a dedicated official and secure website, as well as through a global network of sub-distributors established by On Location , the official hospitality provider, in collaboration with Paris 2024 and its official hospitality program.

Important information: The unauthorized sale or resale of tickets and packages by actors at retail points or on websites outside of official channels is a crime according to French law (Article 313.6.2 of the Penal Code).

10 million tickets and a strict schedule

The lottery for the sale of individual tickets closed on April 20, 2023. Since May 9, 48-hour purchase slots are gradually being sent by email only to the lucky winners drawn in the lottery. If you have registered for the lottery in this phase, regularly check your email inbox (including your spam folder). The lucky winners will receive a message two days before their designated purchase slot with a limk to access the sale. Be wary of any other solicitations (such as contests with tickets as prizes or invitations sent by email), as they would be illegal.

Important information:

After an initial phase dedicated to the sale of packages, a second phase for individual tickets started on May 11, 2023. All of the events of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games are available for purchase including all the iconic finals, not to mention tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies.

Since sales are happening in real-time, it’s best to log in at the beginning of your allocated 48-hour slot to maximize your chances of getting the desired tickets. In case of unforeseen circumstances preventing you from attending the reserved events, it will be possible to resell your tickets, but only on the dedicated official platform. A tab will be added to facilitate ticket resale. Please note that any resale outside this circuit is strictly prohibited.

A final chance to take part in the 2024 Olympic Games will be offered at the end of 2023, for individual sales without a draw, but on a "first come, first served" basis.

In addition, sales of the 3.4 million tickets for the Para Olympic Games (August 28 to September 8) will take place in autumn 2023.

France has officially become the proud host nation of the next Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024 (the Games of the 33rd Olympiad), receiving the flag from Tokyo. Set to take place exactly 100 years after France’s last summer Games, Paris 2024 will be the largest event ever organised in the country, running from Friday 26 July until Sunday 11 August 2024. It promises to be an inclusive, interactive and sustainable celebration of sport: the first fully gender-balanced and carbon-neutral Olympics, featuring the first-ever Olympic events open to general public participation.

Let's discuss accommodation options for the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games

Whether you've secured tickets for the events or are simply traveling to France to be at the center of the action, finding suitable accommodation in Paris or other host cities should be a top priority. It's wise to plan ahead as the Olympic Games period (July 26th to August 11th, August 28th to September 8th for the Paralympic Games) coincides with France's peak summer season, which is in high demand. You have a range of options including bed and breakfast, hotels, luxury palaces, youth hostels, furnished apartments, campgrounds, or mobile homes. To secure accommodation, you can contact the Paris Tourism Office , go through a real estate rental agency, or explore specialized websites.

Important information: The star rating system for hotels can vary from one country to another. A 3-star hotel in France may not correspond to the criteria of a 3-star hotel in another country… To check the rating of your accommodation, consult the dedicated platform published by Atout France , the French tourism development agency, also the publisher of France.en. By booking a Travel package or Hospitality package, you may have accommodation included. These Travel packages can be found on the Hospitality Travel Packages website.

Coming to France requires planning!

Regardless of the mode of transportation chosen to come France, make sure to complete the necessary formalities. To find out if a visa is required for your stay in France, simply provide some information on the official website for visas to France: France-Visas . Beware of fake administrative websites! Do not be fooled by the use of the Marianne logo or the colors blue-white-red: some fake sites may mimic official websites. It’s essential to verify the website’s internet address: official French administration URLs end with “.gouv.fr” or “fr” and never with “.gouv.org”, “gouv.com” or “-gouv.fr”. Please note that a website in “.fr” does not guarantee its official status.

While most people will enjoy the Summer Games from their televisions, those in Paris will experience something truly extraordinary.

After a scaled back Summer Games in 2021, interest in Paris’ Summer Games is even higher than normal. Though Paris has some wonderful hotels, capacity is limited, particularly at the luxury level. We encourage interested travelers to plan early to avoid disappointment.

No one can buy the Navigo Week pass during the Paris Olympics.

Even residents of Paris & Ile-de-France cannot buy the Navigo Weekly pass during the Paris Olympics.

Nor can visitors buy the Navigo Week Pass from July 20 – Sept 8 2024.

The same for day passes: The Navigo Day Pass will not be sold / available to buy during the Paris Olympics.

Anyone who needs temporary public transportation passes will be directed to buy the Paris 2024 transit pass.

Buy Paris 2024 Pass Online

March 20, 2024: You can now buy the Olympics Paris 2024 pass online for home delivery. For countries where the Paris 2024 pass is available for delivery see the How to Buy Paris 2024 Pass Online section at the bottom of the page.

The Paris 2024 Pass will cost 16€ for a single day, but the per-day price drops the more days you buy.  The Paris 2024 pass price drops to 10€/day when buying 7-days or more (i.e. 70€/week for a maximum of 2 weeks).  The Paris 2024 pass is available as a paper coupon-like ticket only for the 1-day version.  For Paris 2024 pass durations of 2 days to 14 days, it will need to be put onto a Navigo Easy card (or your Android mobile phone running one of the Paris transport apps).  The Navigo Easy card itself costs 2€. Unless you’re using a Paris Transport mobile phone app to hold your Paris 2024 pass, which avoids the 2€ card fee.

The Paris 2024 Pass will cover all 5 Paris RER travel zones .

Note that the Paris 2024 Pass is valid only between July 20 and September 8, 2024 and will stop working at 11:59pm on September 8, 2024. Any remaining, unused days on your Paris 2024 Pass after September 8 will be lost & unusable on any Paris public transport.

For example, if you buy a 5-day Paris 2024 Pass and begin using it on September 6th, the pass will work for Sept 6, 7th, 8th and then the two remaining days will be lost/unusable as the pass stops working at midnight September 8.

How to Buy Paris 2024 Pass Online

You can buy the Paris 2024 Pass online , shipped to your home from pass.paris2024.iledefrance-mobilites.fr .

The physical Paris 2024 Pass will be put onto a Navigo Easy card (additional 2€) and sent via tracked letter for home delivery.

When you receive your Paris 2024 Pass, it will be on a Navigo Easy card, which is Paris’ multi-use, reusable fare card for public transport.  If you buy more than 7 days of Paris 2024 Pass, you will receive more than one Navigo Easy card , but they won’t be labeled as to which card holds which amount of days of Paris 2024 Pass.  Do not mix up the cards and use them simultaneously.  Once a Paris 2024 Pass is validated (used to enter the Metro/RER/bus/tram) it will begin its validity period of however many days you ordered.

To see how many days of pass each card holds, install the IDF Mobilités app onto your Android phone or iPhone and use the app to read the Navigo Easy cards to show how many days of Paris 2024 Pass each card holds. (Thank you to the person who wrote me about this functionality that works on the IDF Mobilités app, but not the Bonjour RATP app.)  Once you know which card is which, you may wish to use a permanent marker or a sticker to mark/identify each card to remember which card to use first.  After that card is exhausted, begin using the next card.

Delivery / shipment of the Paris 2024 Pass is available to the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, China, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France(excluding territories), Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, New -Zealand, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, United Kingdom, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United States.

Delivery fees for Paris 2024 pass vary by country, but an example fee for delivery to United States is 4.45€.

Shipping can take up to 30 days so purchasing by June 20, 2024 would be recommended. After June 20, buying in-person in France is a better option.

Note: the official Paris 2024 Pass website to buy your Olympics transport pass was a bit of a mess in February 2024, but hopefully it’s fixed by the time you’re reading this. Problems I’ve seen previously using the site:

  • Can’t complete the account creation process in English.  (I had to switch to French at the top of the screen and redo the sign-up process.).  You can switch to English after creating an account.
  • When adding a mailing / delivery address, most addresses are listed in French (when using the website in English).  For example: UK will be listed as Royaume-Uni, Germany = Allemagne, etc.
  • You cannot change your delivery address after adding one.
  • You cannot add a 2nd address after adding one.
  • The province field in the address form is not saving that field of information.

The Paris 2024 Pass can also be bought & used directly from your Android mobile phone using the Ile-de-France Mobilités Android phone app (Android only).  The iPhone version of the Ile-de-France Mobilités app cannot hold the Paris 2024 Pass (or any transit pass / transit tickets) at the moment. iPhone users will need to use either a physical Navigo Easy plastic smart card to hold their Paris 2024 Pass or use the (under development) Public Transport Paris 2024 mobile phone app scheduled for release in June 2024.

How to Buy Paris 2024 Pass In-Person

The Paris 2024 Pass will be similar to the Navigo week pass requiring you to load the pass onto either the Ile-de-France Mobilités Android phone app (Android only) or a Navigo Easy card .  (Navigo Easy cards can hold a variety of Paris transit fares.  Paris 2024 pass is just one of them.)

The Navigo Easy card can be purchased at any Paris Metro / Paris RER / Transilien train station ticket window or ticket office, and from June onwards, at automated ticket machines, including at CDG Terminal 2 Airport train station or CDG Terminal 1/3 train station .  At Orly Airport, you can buy Navigo Easy cards at the Terminal 4 bus loop Orlybus ticket window.

During the purchase process of a new Navigo Easy card, you can select what fares to load onto the card.  In this case, you would be choosing the Paris 2024 pass for anywhere from 1-day to 14-days.

If you already have a Navigo Easy card, you can add/renew the Paris 2024 transport pass using either iPhone or Android mobile phone apps (using your phone’s NFC capabilities, if available), or at any Paris Metro/RER/Transilien ticket window or any automated ticket machine .

Paris 2024 Olympics: How to plan a last-minute trip, from Games tickets to accommodation

If you are kicking yourself for not bagging tickets to the Paris 2024 Olympics when they first went on sale, all is not lost. A travel expert tells Sky News how sports fans can plan a last-minute trip this summer.

As the Paris Olympics draw closer, the hype is increasing - and it's only going to build from here.

If you are kicking yourself for not bagging tickets when they first went on sale, all is not lost.

There are still ways you can get to Paris to see the Games.

Sky News talks to a travel expert to bring you all you need to know about securing your last-minute trip.

Can I still get tickets for the Olympics?

Yes, it is still possible to get tickets for the Games.

More than 250,000 tickets went on sale on 17 April to mark 100 days until the opening of the Games.

This is the last ticket sale, but tickets are still available for dozens of events.

The first sale involved a lottery and timeslots to buy packs of tickets for events.

In the final stretch of ticket sales, things are a lot simpler.

Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis and you can see the availability for different events in real time on the website.

While a lot of the final tickets on sale are pretty pricey, there is still the chance to bag a bargain.

Almost 20,000 tickets were put on sale for €24 and it is still possible to get tickets to see football for this price.

At the other end of the spectrum, there are ticket and hospitality packages available that will set you back hundreds of Euros.

What about the Paralympics?

The Paralympic Games will take place from 28 August to 8 September and there are still tickets available from €15.

The booking works the same as for the Olympics - first-come, first-served, with the remaining tickets now available on the website.

Avoid the scammers

Don't get caught out by scammers - make sure you only buy tickets through the official Paris 2024 ticketing website.

It's not too late to book - but don't wait

While the start of the Games is fast approaching, it's not too late to plan a trip - but you should "get booking ASAP", Jessica Dante, travel expert at Love and London, tells Sky News.

The Eurostar is not as "wildly priced" as you might expect, she says, with return fares available for the first week of the Games for under £200 - and the same is true of budget airlines.

But, Ms Dante cautions, "that will invariably only continue to go up" - so book soon rather than hold out for a last-minute deal.

FILE PHOTO: A general view from the Pont Alexandre III bridge shows an athletics track that floats on the River Seine, with the Eiffel tower in the background, in Paris, France, June 23, 2017 as Paris is transformed into a giant Olympic park to celebrate International Olympic Days with a variety of sporting events for the public across the city during two days as the city bids to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. REUTERS/Charles Platiau/File Photo

Could there be last-minute deals on accommodation?

Don't bank on it, Ms Dante says.

"I'm always in the camp of just book something so you have it. If something else pops up closer to the time then fine, you can try to make a switch if you've got something that you can cancel.

"But there's also the chance that something might not pop up that's going to be in your price range as well."

While there could be a small wave of accommodation deals open up as people cancel, a lot of accommodation will be non-refundable at least a couple of weeks before the Games, so any cancellations are likely to still be fairly far in advance, she says.

Tips for booking accommodation

There is still "decent availability" for hotels, she says, although some popular spots are already booked up.

Unsurprisingly, cost has a lot to do with location - so look away from central areas and places close to Olympic locations if you are looking to save money.

"The flip side of that is it then means that you're probably going to have to deal with taking the metro and you'll have to pay for the inflated cost of the rides."

The price of metro tickets will almost double during the Games, from €2.10 (£1.80) to €4 (£3.40).

But the surcharge on public transport is unlikely to match the price difference on a more central hotel. Ms Dante advises looking at suburban areas or the outskirts of the city.

What about staying in another town?

Staying in another town entirely and travelling to Paris for events is one option.

But you should consider the pros and cons carefully, Ms Dante says.

There is a looming threat of train strikes. The CGT public servants union has announced plans to strike during the Olympics, which could mean many transport workers walking out.

If you are staying outside Paris, that could scupper your plans to easily travel into the city.

Even if there are not strikes, trains into Paris are likely to be crowded, Ms Dante says.

"You do have to kind of balance that and just be prepared that you might have some difficulty."

Passengers walk in the Part-Dieu train station during a railway strike, in Lyon, central France, Wednesday, July 6, 2022. A strike by railway workers demanding higher pay amid cost of living increases is interrupting train service in France. National railway company SNCF said about one in four high-speed trains was canceled on Wednesday. It says regional service such as suburban trains in the Paris region is experiencing disruptions. Can you go to the Olympics and avoid Paris entirely?

The Games may be headlined as Paris 2024, but there are events taking place across the country - and the surfing is even in Tahiti.

The cities of Lyon, Saint-Etienne, Nice, Bordeaux, Nantes and Marseille will host events.

The Olympic ticketing site allows you to filter available events by location, so if you are keen to give Paris a miss you can seek out what is happening in other places.

"They're going to be a little bit less popular than stuff that's right in the centre of Paris, so I think that's a really good option," Ms Dante says.

Consider the Paralympics

The Paralympics often gets overshadowed by the Olympics, but it's a great option if you want to experience the Games, Ms Dante says.

"It's going to be a little bit less crowded, the pricing will be better, probably a little bit more of a relaxed experience."

Is it worth going to Paris if you don't have tickets to the Games?

Maybe there are no tickets left in your price range, or your favourite event is sold out - is it worth planning a trip to Paris anyway?

"Definitely," according to Ms Dante. "This whole summer it's going to be really buzzy there."

A lot of locals will leave the city, she says. It's French tradition in the summer, but the exodus is likely to be even bigger this year as Parisians flee the crowds - meaning some areas could end up being quieter than normal.

Attractions away from the main Olympic sites could also be quieter than normal, she says.

How to make the most of your trip

If you are keen to combine cultural activities with sporting ones, consider booking a guided tour to big attractions, Ms Dante advises.

That way, you have got your ticket secured and the tour guides will be up to speed on any road closures or access changes that could make your visit more tricky.

Also keep in mind that there will be a lot of security measures in place and getting around the city will take longer than normal.

Where to fly on a budget this summer

Airfare experts share their forecasts for summer vacation destinations that won’t break your budget.

trips to paris 2024

This summer is shaping up to be another scorcher , and the demand for summer travel is piping hot, too. If early 2024 trends are any indication of what’s to come, “it’s looking to be busier than 2023,” said Katy Nastro, spokesperson for the flight booking site Going . Recent airport passenger volume numbers have regularly exceeded last year and pre-pandemic levels.

Jeff Klee, CEO of CheapAir.com , says airline capacity has rebounded from pandemic complications, but strong travel demand means summer flight prices can be high, depending on when you’re hoping to go. Flying in June, July or early August will be more expensive than later in the season, according to the company’s summer forecast .

“And it’s not just the airfare,” Klee said in an email. “Expensive hotel rates and crowds everywhere make Western Europe tricky for the summer.”

Despite the price tag, “people are going to go,” said Melanie Fish, the head of global public relations for all Expedia Brands, including Vrbo, Expedia and Hotels.com . “When we look at searches for destinations, they are definitely up year over year.”

For popular destinations like Europe , Klee and Fish say to push trips later into August, September or even October. Not only will prices soften, but you’ll alleviate some of the strain of overtourism .

“My number one tip is go ahead and take that summer vacation, but maybe hold on to take that big, big trip in September,” Fish said.

According to Expedia’s summer 2024 travel outlook , we’re currently in the sweet spot for shopping for early summer flights at the best rates, as Fish says lower fares tend to pop up 21 to 60 days out. It doesn’t hurt to start your search even earlier, setting up price alerts to flag when airfare drops. If you can swing it, look to fly on a Monday for international trips or a Tuesday for domestic trips to save up to 15 percent on fares, Fish added.

It’s not impossible to find good deals on airfare, whether you’re looking for a tropical beach trip , a mountain adventure or a vibrant city. Here are places that are trending cheaper — and the destinations you’ll want to avoid.

Go to Mexico

Sun, surf, culture, chilaquiles — Mexico is always a good idea , but particularly so this summer. With the opening of the new airport in Tulum , U.S. airlines have been adding gobs of new flights to Mexico, particularly to beach regions. “We’ve seen a healthy amount of deals down to Mexico resort areas like Cancún,” Nastro said.

Laura Lindsay, global travel trends expert at Skyscanner , says three Mexican cities — Cancún, San José del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta — are among the top 10 destinations offering travelers the best bang for their buck in 2024.

To escape the summer heat, Phyllis Stoller, president of the Women’s Travel Group , recommends high-altitude destinations like Mexico City or Ixtapan de la Sal, a town near Mexico City with thermal springs.

Avoid European port cities

If you’re considering a visit to a popular European city that’s also a cruise hub, beware. Not only will you be battling the usual summer crowds, you’ll be joined by thousands of day-trippers flooding into the ports — meaning Barcelona, Venice , Athens and Santorini.

Sandra Weinacht, who co-owns the tour company Inside Europe Travel Experiences , says you can avoid some of the madness in these hot spots by staying in neighborhoods away from the typical tourist zones. You can also visit top sites in the late afternoon or evening, after cruise travelers have returned to their ships.

Better yet, wait to visit until the shoulder season

Go to Colorado

Epic hiking, breathtaking nature and more craft beer than you could ever try in a lifetime: The Centennial State is a domestic gem. Ashlee Collins of Inspirato , a luxury travel and lifestyle subscription service, says Vail is popular among members this summer. Not only is the ski resort beautiful sans snow, it’s drivable for many, cutting a significant cost for travelers.

Airfare to Colorado is looking more reasonable than other domestic vacation hubs. Nastro recently spotted a Miami-to-Denver, round-trip fare over the July Fourth holiday for just $199. She says an average round trip from major U.S. cities is running between $173 and $250, but those prices are expected to climb upward of $350 the closer we get to summer.

Avoid places at risk for wildfires

Wildfires have become an unfortunate fixture of summers in the Northern Hemisphere. Last year’s fires in Europe — including those in Cyprus and Greece — were among the worst so far this century, the European Commission reported .

Stoller says fire risk has been a factor in her summer travel planning; she nixed a New England cruise after remembering how bad smoke was last year because of the fires in Canada . “None of us can predict everything, but that would be something I would be aware of,” she said.

Extreme heat is also an issue. Last July, Southern Europe experienced excessively high temperatures from a “heat dome.”

“There’s a concern about heat,” Stoller said. “Last summer was really painful.”

Go to the Caribbean

The Caribbean has its peak tourist season during the winter, when Americans flock to warmer waters. That means summer trips to the region tend to be quieter and cheaper.

“You can go under $300 to pretty much all of the islands: Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Aruba, Dominican Republic,” said Lindsay Schwimer, a consumer travel expert at Hopper . She’s seen similar price point flights to Colombia.

Lindsay of Skyscanner also said Puerto Rico and the Bahamas offer some of the most affordable flights from the United States this summer.

Avoid Paris

Unless you’re going for the Olympics , skip the French capital this summer.

“Paris is always a top destination in the summer, but this summer … it’s going to be on another level,” said Madison Pietrowski, head of U.S. brand at GetYourGuide .

Not only are hotel prices high, “we’re seeing that some of the top attractions like the Louvre have raised their ticket prices,” Pietrowski said.

Nastro says the crowds are going to be “bananas” during the Games, and not just in Paris. Olympic travelers are likely to add on other French destinations to their trip, like Nice — which will host soccer games — or the Côte d’Azur, which already gets popular in the summertime.

Even if you try to get ahead of the rush by visiting before the July 26 start date, you may still have some Olympics-related headaches in the French capital. As the city races to finish prep, “you might find that there’s going to be eyesores and scaffolding and loud noises early in the morning,” Nastro said.

Go to rural Europe

Interest in Western Europe has not slowed down, and Americans are expected to surge back en masse this summer. If you’d like to avoid them, put rural European destinations on your radar.

Weinacht is bullish on Spain’s Rioja region , the Basque countryside and the central Italian region of Umbria, which borders Tuscany but does not see the same levels of tourism. She’s also a fan of Carinthia, the least-populated state of Austria. “It is castle- and lake-dotted, doesn’t get too hot, and oh, the food and stories the cities and villages can tell,” Weinacht said in an email.

Weinacht says she’s been getting more requests from Americans for trips to her homeland, Germany. The country is easy to navigate with its high-speed trains, and offers a mix of small and big cities spread across powerhouse wine regions, UNESCO World Heritage sites and many food festivals . According to Skyscanner, airlines in the United States have been increasing their flights to Germany — namely, Frankfurt, an international business hub — meaning you may be able to find more deals.

Avoid Sicily and Amalfi

If your dream Italian destination has been featured on TV lately, that’s a red flag. The last season of “The White Lotus” spurred an interest in already popular Sicily ; the same is happening to the Amalfi Coast thanks to the new Netflix miniseries “Ripley.”

“They’re really going to be the most expensive and they’re going to be pretty crowded for the summer,” Schwimer said.

Where to go

Our favorite destinations: These 12 destinations are at the top of our wish list for where to go this year, without crowds. In 2023, we explored an Alaskan bear paradise, Brooklyn’s famous pizzerias and a hidden gem in Italy, among other highlights .

Travel like a local: Residents share their favorite places in our top city guides: New Orleans , Rome , Tokyo and Mexico City .

National parks: This comprehensive guide has details on all 63 U.S. national parks. For a deep dive into five of the most well-known, you can listen to the Field Trip podcast . Then explore tips from locals for visiting Yosemite , Glacier and Everglades .

Tales from the road: Dolly Parton has opened a new resort at her theme park complex in Tennessee, while “Fixer Upper” stars Chip and Joanna Gaines have a new hotel in Waco . Road-trippers may be just as excited to see the cartoon beaver at Buc-ee’s , and bargain-hunters should consider a stop at the Unclaimed Baggage store in Scottsboro, Ala.

Paris main airport unveils new baggage handling system ahead of the 2024 Olympics

P ARIS (AP) — Officials at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport on Tuesday unveiled a new security baggage system and a dedicated baggage handling area ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games .

The new equipment includes a revamped scanner system to allow a more detailed scan of passengers’ baggage, so that travelers won’t have to remove items such as electronic devices, aerosols or liquids from their bags.

“If we have doubts about a piece of luggage, the luggage won’t leave," said Edward Arkwright, CEO of Aéroports de Paris Group, the body that runs Paris’ airports. "We prefer an athlete to leave without their luggage rather than leaving (with something) questionable.”

As the first gateway to the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, Charles de Gaulle Airport expects to process over 114,000 baggage from delegations and the media and will receive an estimated 47,000 pieces of sports equipment.

The airport also unveiled the “baggage factory,” a dedicated space covering 10,000 square meters to process equipment and luggage of the athletic delegations leaving the airport following the closing ceremony.

“The biggest challenge is the oversized luggage,” said Sébastien Malaussene, the airport’s project manager. “Athletes travel with all their sports equipment and they are not your average passenger bringing up to four, five bags. They have sports items, many of which are oversized."

The Canadian women’s soccer team will play two friendlies against CONCACAF rivals Mexico in June before they travel to Paris to defend their Olympic gold medal.

The two matches, called Canada’s special ‘Summer Send-Off Series’, will be part of the team’s preparations for the Olympics, which will be played in Paris from July 26 to August 11.

The matches against Mexico will be held on June 1 (14.00 ET) in Montreal, Quebec and three days later in Toronto (19.30 ET).

“We are excited to reconnect with our fans after some fantastic home games at the back of 2023 which really kicked off our 2024 Olympic Campaign,” said head coach Bev Priestman in a news release .

“The tremendous love and support for this team was felt coast to coast and this window will be a great opportunity to send this team off in style to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.”

Priestman described Mexico as a “difficult” opponent and said facing them would be the ideal preparation for Canada.

“Mexico has shown recently they are a difficult team to face, which is exactly what we need before finalizing our Olympic roster and continuing to evolve and cement our tactical identity before the 25th of July,” she added.

Canada won gold at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 after beating Sweden on penalties in the final.

At the 2023 Women’s World Cup, they failed to make it beyond the group stage, finishing third in their group behind co-hosts Australia and African giants Nigeria.

For the Paris Olympics, Canada are in Group A with France, Colombia and New Zealand. The group stage of the 12-team women's tournament starts July 25.

Canada’s women’s team will be playing in the Olympics for a fifth consecutive time. They have reached the knockout stage in all four of their previous appearances at the Olympic Games, securing two bronze medals in 2012 and 2016, and a gold medal in 2021.

Canada remain the only nation to have reached the podium three consecutive times at the women’s Olympic football tournament in the last decade.

The team has played in two tournaments this year, having reached the final in the SheBelieves Cup, where they lost to four-time world champions USA on penalties. In the CONCACAF W Gold Cup, Canada reached the semifinals, again losing there to the USWNT.
