Vespa Tour Florence Frequent-Asked Questions
Do you need an international driver’s license to to go on a vespa tour from florence.
To rent a basic 125cc Vespa you’ll require a valid driver’s license and an International Driver’s Permit (the latter is often referred to as an International driver’s license). If you want to hire anything more powerful, you’ll require a motorcycle license so just keep that in mind.
International Driving Permits aren’t expensive and you’ll have to keep it on you, as you can be fined by the Italian police otherwise. Your tour operator will likely check this when you’re booking, to ensure their insurance is valid.
What do you wear on a Vespa tour in Tuscany?
First of all, on any Vespa tour, you’ll be given a helmet to wear. You must wear this at all times, and if you don’t, you won’t be allowed on the tour. Secondly, you’ll require comfortable, yet sturdy shoes (no sandals). These will preferably cover your ankles.
When it comes to clothing, make sure you wear a long-sleeve jacket and trousers. Not only can the wind be chilly when you’re driving through Tuscany, but you’ll be more protected in the unfortunate case that you do come off the scooter. So make sure you pack accordingly if you’re researching Vespa tours in Tuscany!
What is the best way to explore Tuscany?
Many people choose to explore this area on a tour or rent a car in Tuscany. However, heading out on a Vespa tour in Tuscany offers you the best of both worlds. This way, you’ll get around quickly, but you’ll also have a guide with you at all times who will teach you about this beautiful Italian region.
Vespa tours usually last for around 6+ hours so you’ll get to see a good chunk of the area in this time. For those who’d prefer to see more, you can always hire a Vespa or scooter yourself. Just make sure you exercise caution when driving.
Where can you go on a Vespa tour in Tuscany?
You’ll also find tours that depart from other locations too, such as Badesse, San Gimignano, and Siena . No matter where you’re staying, you should find an option that’s suitable for you. Otherwise, just make your way to Florence or one of the towns I’ve just mentioned.
Are Vespa tours in Tuscany suitable for everyone?
Honestly, the answer is no! First of all, the minimum age for a Vespa tour is 18, and some companies may even require you to be older than this. These tours also aren’t suitable for pregnant travelers or those who have very young children, although some companies do allow children as a passenger.
Not only are there restrictions on the tours themselves, but driving a Vespa around Italy isn’t for everyone. In some cases, you’ll have to traverse steep narrow roads.
Vespa Tours in Tuscany Conclusion
You’ll find tons of awesome Vespa tours in Tuscany so you won’t be short of options. Of course, you can always rent a car or go on a bus tour to explore this region’s beautiful countryside, but getting around on a Vespa is so much more fun!
Although many of the best tours depart from Florence, some do leave from other destinations in Tuscany. So no matter where you choose to stay, you’ll have an option. Just make sure you shop around first.

Tuscany Vespa Tour Itinerary
Tuscany is so much more than what meets the eye, and if you aren’t careful you could end up hitting all the tourist traps instead of those hidden gems. That’s not to say that the more popular stops aren’t incredible – you just need to know which are worth it and which are skippable. Let’s dive in. If you are interested in some other Tuscany day trips, see our reviews here .
Fattoria di Bagnolo â Located in Impruneta-Firenze, this is one of the most legendary chianti wine and extra virgin olive oil producers in Tuscany. Itâs like the epitome of âTuscanâ, located on a gorgeous hillside with vines and olive trees all over the place. It truly is like being transported back in time, complete with a 16 th -century cellar youâll be able to explore.
Azienda Agricola Malenchini â This stunning estate located in the heart of the Chianti wine region has been in business since the 1830s. In perfect Medici style, the romantic main villa welcomes people from all over the globe. While most of the vineyard cultivates from Sangiovese grapes, they also produce Canaiolo, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. However, theyâre most well-known for their red, rose, and dessert wines under Chianti winemaking processes.
Antinori Chianti Classico â Okay, so this one is definitely more of a âcorporateâ winery, but as the most well-known in the world, itâs still worth checking out. Their rooftop Rinuccio 1180 restaurant offers sweeping, 360 views of the countryside.
Avignonesi â Dating back to the 16 th century, things have changed a lot in the past 15 years but the winery still offers many types of wine and tours.
Badia a Coltibuono â This historic former monastery has a fascinating history, and is perfect if youâd like to stay overnight! With a pool, wine courses, and even a cooking school, itâs worth spending some extra time here.
Barone Ricasoli â As Italyâs oldest winery, (almost 1000 years!), they pretty much invented Chianti. The intimidating Brolio castle overlooks the rolling green hills below, and offers drop-in tastings and gourmet dinners. You can stay in the private house on site for 2 nights or more.
Dress Accordingly
As you will be riding or driving a Vespa, make sure to wear protective clothing. Closed-toe shoes are highly recommended, and you’ll want good walking shoes, anyway. You don’t have to wear a jacket, but perhaps a tank top or t-shirt with a light long-sleeve button-up or thin flannel would be a nice option.
In the summertime it can get very hot, but most villas and castles have very thick walls to keep the heat out. And if you do happen to heat up, that’s just all the more reason to grab some more wine or gelato!
Vespa Driving Tips
Who doesnât want to zip around on a romantic Vespa ride through Tuscany? We all do! However, learning how to ride one may not be as smooth as we may hope. Thatâs why weâre here!
- Check Switches and Brakes â For your own safety and that of others, make sure you know where everything is before you even start your Vespa up.
- Sit Properly â Correct posture makes everything easier to maneuver. Youâll be able to navigate easier by sitting upright and shifting your bodyweight to the left or right to turn. Keep elbows bent instead of stretched straight.
- Test front and rear brakes â While seated, push your Vespa forward, and try braking gently as well as suddenly. Play around with back and front brakes individually and simultaneously, starting with the front and then the back.Tip: The rear brakes are ideal for slow cruising, while the front is preferred for stopping quickly or at high speeds.
- Adjust Mirrors â Make sure you can see everything at all angles.
- Practice â Drive around slowly and practice stopping at any moment. Try taking easy turns, then sharper ones. Use the indicators once youâre comfortable with stopping and turning.

Safety First! Vespa Driving Lessons
Before heading out into the Tuscan countryside, your English-speaking professional driving instructor will conduct an orientation so that you'll be comfortable driving on the road, followed by a quick driving test on an enclosed private training circuit. Don't worry, driving a Vespa is pretty simple!
You'll need a valid driving license to ride the scooter on the road (although you don't need a specific motorcycle license) and you must be at least 18 years of age. Children over the age of 13 can ride as a passenger, as can adults if they prefer not to ride solo.
Cruising Through Tuscany by Vespa
As you depart Florence, follow your expert local guide through the beautiful rolling hills of Tuscany. Surrounded by olive trees, sunflowers, and centuries-old castles, few regions can compete with Tuscany's gentle beauty.
Passing through the tiny wine-producing villages and panoramic views of the sun-drenched countryside, you'll have plenty of chances to stop for a photo or just to take it all in. Along the way, your guide will stop to point out some of their favorite places and views, and you'll learn a little about life in this idyllic part of the world.
Chianti Wine and Tuscan Food Specialties
One of the highlights of your Vespa tour is tasting the incredible food and wine that Tuscany is known for. You'll visit an incredible local winery today that produces the region's famous Chianti red wine. First, you'll stop in at one of Tuscany's best-known wineries, where you'll learn about the history of Chianti wine production, see the winemaking process first-hand, and of course try some it for yourself! Later, you'll head to a smaller establishment to taste some of their sought-after artisan wines whilst enjoying a traditional Tuscan lunch.
During your tour you'll also be able to sample some local Tuscan delicacies such as olive oils, olives, and cheeses. Blessed with amazing weather and great growing conditions, the food and wine of Tuscany is certainly worthy of its fame.
If you'd like to take a few bottles home for yourself, then don't worry about trying to carry them on your Vespa. The wineries can arrange for bottles to be shipped to your home, wherever in the world that may be!

Heather, Giuseppe, and Ludovico were super friendly guides who made the tour a wonderful experience. Our group was all people with no prior Vespa experience, and they were very patient and great teachers. The views were spectacular, and driving the Vespa was super fun. This was easily the best experience during our trip in Tuscany!!! I could not recommend enough

Change of pace on Florence stay. We enjoyed this trip as one day of our stay in Florence for our honeymoon. After days of sleeping in, walking around sight seeing and eating, we needed a change of pace and some real exercise. It was great to get out into the countryside and fresh air. Even the short and sudden rain storm was a fun part of the ride. And if you aren't looking to push yourself at all, then you can skip the hill climb and ride the van to the top. About half the group opted for this. Lunch was delicious and the castle tour with wine and olive oil tastings were the icing on the cake. I highly recommend this.
Highlight of my trip. What an amazing experience and exceeded my expectations hugely. Started off with a castle tour where our guide Alex/ Alessio told us about the history of wine production. Followed by wine tasting. I found this very interesting and you can really tell that Alessio knows his stuff. This was followed by a challenging but incredibly enjoyable bike ride around 25km. We managed to stop at the best view point to take pictures. I think what really made the difference was our tour guide. Alex went out of his way to reccomend the best places to eat in Florence and was very hospitable. This definitely the highlight of my trip Iâm Florence.
Friendly staff, love adventure. Had a great day biking around the Tuscan hills and visiting a castle with great wine and olive oil tasting. The staff were very friendly and mindful of safety measures on the road. Highly recommend this tour
Mario was a great host! A brilliant was to see the city :-) I was the only person on the bike tour, but Mario was a great host and tour guide! We did the city bike tour through the streets of Florence and he was very knowledgeable and able to answer all my questions. I'm so glad the tour went ahead even though it was just me! A brilliant way to see the city. I was also able to reschedule to a different day at short notice :-) Thank you, Mario!
Wonderful Bike Tour in the Hills of Chianti. This tour was absolutely amazing. In the morning hours we did a nice bike tour along the streets of the Chianti region. The lunch was very tasty as well as the wine later in the castle. Our guide Alessio told us about the history of wine production and was very entertaining and fun to spend time with. If you want to experience the countryside of Toscana and the wine, we can definitely recommend this tour! Grazie mille Alessio, alla prossima Sven and Alessia.
Put the fun between your legs! I really enjoy wine and even more so, I love cycling! What better place to do so, than Tuscany! And what better group to do it with than Tuscany Bike Tours! Not only are the guides knowledgeable and safe but fun! All the guides brought their own unique and enjoyable personality to the day. They were keen to provide additional information about the area and didnât hesitate to answer questions. Try it and make sure you do the hill climb! Wine will fuel you for it! Thanks for the fun day to all the boys at Tuscany Bike Tours! And a shout out to Tom for leading the peloton! Grazie! Miranda from Canada!
An absolute MUST! We had an absolute blast riding Vespas through Tuscany! The moment we walked in the door we were met with the guides' charming and witty personalities. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, exactly how you would imagine it. I was nervous about driving a Vespa for the first time, but it was incredibly easy and the guides make sure you know what you are doing before they put you out on the road. The castle was stunning! There were only two of us on the Vespa Tour that day, so we had Angus all to ourselves. He was so fun and super knowledgeable. We loved his British accent:) Jacopo was our driver and guide through the castle. He was amazing and so fun! We enjoyed hearing him sing along to "nostalgic" American music and teaching him American slang (Bye, Felicia!) He was such a good sport! Definitely one of, if not the highlight of our 2 weeks in Italy.
Best day of our entire Italy trip! Book this Vespa tour!!! My husband and I will never forget the experience. We had a blast and we both agree it was the absolute highlight of our entire Italy vacation! The guides are fantastic... knowledgeable and funny! They also made me feel extremely comfortable and safe on the Vespa. I had never been on one before (or on anything similar) but they teach you how to ride it in a parking lot before hitting the road. I caught on quickly! The day was just such a blast. The castle/winery tour complete with a wine and olive oil tasting was wonderful. Lunch was delicious. And the ride itself through the Tuscan countryside was something Iâll never forget. Will recommend to anyone I know traveling to Italy!
Can't say enough. The vespa tour was the highlight of our trip. The guides were both knowledgeable, friendly and easy to talk to. The castle and the scenery were awesome. They quickly rearranged the tour due to impending rain. Lunch h was incredible. Best pasta I had in our entire stay. Highly recommend this tour, thanks to our guides and their attention to our safety.

2 – Tuscany Vespa Wine Tour
Rating: âď¸ 5/5 ( 167 reviews )
“Awesome experience. Guides were friendly, patient, funny and knowledgeable. Made sure everyone was comfortable riding, were generous with their time and took great pictures and video of us. And then the lunch was plentifulâŚas much food and wine as you liked.” anthony, Viator
Have you ever heard of the awe-inspiring medieval village known as San Gimignano? Introducing one of the most remarkable destinations across the Tuscan countryside!
An expedition to the 11th-century hilltop hamlet is one of the most unique things to do in Tuscany , arriving to stone walls that have remained untouched ever since!
This Vespa tour, operated by Fun in Tuscany, begins in the surrounding countryside, first visiting Fattoria Poggio Alloro farm. Next, park below the town entrance and then spend some time exploring San Gimignanoâs gothic architecture!
Wait in line for gelato from Italyâs best gelateria (fact), pop into a museum, and then see more of the area in this part of Tuscany, pit-stopping at a local winery for lunch and vino tastings!
- Full-day Vespa tour with three-course lunch and wine tasting
- Medieval village tour + visit to an organic winery and farm
- Mix of guided visits and free time

When we were in San Gimignano, we popped into a deli and a local behind the counter told us that itâs against the law to even change one brick in this town! With that in mind, authenticity is an understatement, and it really feels as if youâve just traveled back in time!
Oh, and the wait in line for Italyâs gelato champions is totally worth it!
3 – Tuscany Sunset Vespa Tour
Rating: âď¸ 5/5 ( 34 reviews )
“We loved the scenic Vespa ride, and learning about the region. The wine and olive oil tasting at a local vineyard/olive grove after the Vespa ride was incredible. We met so many wonderful people on this tour and would highly reccomend!!” haley,Viator

Before you hit the trail, you can opt to undergo a short Vespa driving lesson if youâd like.
4 – Self-drive Tour of Florence Hills with local products Tasting
Rating: âď¸ 4.5/5 ( 17 reviews )
“Great quality time spent with my two sons, such a special and unique way to experience all that Florence has to offer. Nice way to end inside the Roman gate with charcuterie and wine at B Station.” ken,Viator
Just because CAF Tour and Travelâs E-Vespa expedition is self-guided doesnât mean youâre missing out on dedicated routes or pit stops typically included in an organized tour.
With a GPS App leading the way from Florence and out of the main touristy parts, get a real feel of the Tuscan hills without driving hours outside the city.
Follow the selected route toward Etruscan-rooted Fiesole (the closest town to Florence). It takes about 20 minutes to get here from the historic center, winding through hyper-localized neighborhood roads and past gorgeous villas!
Making your way back to Firenze, break at Piazzale Michelangelo for photographs, pop into the Basilica San Miniato al Monte . Head back into the city via Viale dei Colli, through the Oltrarno district, for final food and vino tastings.
- Self-guided
- English, Italian, French, Spanish, German
- Download an App-GPS Guide on your mobile for this tour
- You will drive an electric Vespa: a more eco-friendly option
- Previous experience driving a scooter/motorbike is mandatory to drive the Vespa yourself
- A valid driverâs license is required, no under 18 drivers
- A credit card is required for a security deposit
- Choose between a one or two-seater
- When placing your booking, a two-seater is automatically selected unless you select otherwise
- Includes food and wine tastings
- RCA insurance with collision, theft and vandalism is included in the overall cost
- Groups are limited to 10 pax
This tour is all about the viewpoints! Fiesole sits in the hills and oversees the whole city; the Michelangelo Plaza boasts panoramas across Florence, and the drive along the scenic boulevard descends tree-lined pathways.
Fiesoleâs town is pretty minute but feels completely different from Florence. Pop by the Roman Theatre and also check out the remains of its ancient walls.
5 – All-inclusive tour in Chianti
Rating: âď¸ 4.5/5 ( 48 reviews )
“What an incredible day! Book this tour! We got to see the beautiful Tuscan countryside, and we stopped at a winery for a âlightâ (i.e. incredibly filling) lunch and tasted 10 wines! Vincenzo was an amazing guide. He was friendly and knowledgeable and great to be around.” stefanie,Viator
Cruise around Chianti on a classic Piaggio Vespa during Italy on a Budget toursâ all-inclusive day adventure!
This expedition begins from San Gimignano â youâre first transported from Florence to here in a comfortable private vehicle.
Now youâre behind the wheel of your Vespa 50cc , the journey starts from outside the heavens-high medieval ramparts, and itâs off to your first stop among the verdant hills.
Entering the famous wine region , drive past plenty of centuries-old villas, vineyards and flower fields, wineries, eateries and factory farm stores advertising balsamics and olive oils.
Detouring off Chianti Road, enjoy a traditional Tuscan lunch at a local winery ! Bellies full, return to your base, and then youâre driven back to Florence.
- Youâll be transported in a private vehicle from Florence through the Tuscan countryside and Chianti to San Gimignano where the tour begins
- Transfer back to Florence is included
- Hotel pick-up is available
- Group size is limited to 8 pax
- Please bring your valid driverâs license, passport and credit card on the day of your tour as a deposit
- You will not be allowed to join the tour without these, with no refund. Photocopies are not accepted.
- To drive the Vespa yourself, prior scooter/Vespa/motorcycle driving experience is mandatory
- Drivers need to be over 18 years old
- If the weather looks gloomy, bring a spare set of clothes and raincoat in case of rain
- If there is heavy rain, the tour will proceed by vehicle
The fastest way to reach San Gimignano is traveling on the highway, but driving a motorbike on this road is not for novice riders! You can detour through the countryside, but this would take a couple of hours!
Luckily, with this option, youâre picked up in Florence and dropped right by San Gimignano, saving you time and effort!
6 – Private Tuscany Vespa Tour
Rating: âď¸ 4.5/5 ( 7 reviews )
“What a great trip. Safety was first and foremost as it should be. The Vespa part was fun and beautiful and the wine tasting was amazing.” tim,Viator
Vespas, a Chianti winery and a classic Italian lunchtime feast , Tuscany Cycleâs privatized scooter excursion epitomizes (and combines) the best of Tuscany!
After youâre all geared up and ready to go, first undergo a quick practice session to get you comfortable on the automated bike.
Then, the open-air travel commences.
With a local guide in charge, make your way out of the city center and into the Chianti countryside, breaking at a regional winery for lunch and wine tastings in the cellar.
(The menu usually comprises prosciutto, cheese, pasta and crostata, a type of Tuscan cake.)
Limited to small group sizes, this is one of the top Florence private tours for amateur drivers.
- Potentially run by a multi-lingual guide
- This is a private tour for your group only
- Arrive 30 minutes prior to departure time
- Lunch and beverages are included
- A vegetarian option is available; let the operator know beforehand
- Please bring your valid driverâs license on the day
- No under 18s are allowed to drive, you will need to ride as a passenger
Many of the scooter tours require previous driving experience on a bike/scooter, but this is one of the few that doesn’t.
Keeping close to Firenze, you wonât travel on any major busy roads either, so itâs ideal for first-time riders!
Plus, youâre riding an automatic scooter, so no need to worry about shifting down or up gears!
7 – Small-Group Tuscany By Vespa
Rating: âď¸ 4.5/5 ( 872 reviews )
“This was a great experience. My partner and I rode together which was fun because then we were having the space vespa experience. The guides were thorough with their safety checks which made me feel safer and they offered interesting tidbits on our way to the vespa site.” kelsey,Viator
Visiting two wineries and a castle (!!!) and stopping over for Chianti wine tastings and olive oil samplings , what more could you ask for in a day trip?
But it gets better; Florencetown/Towns of Italy gives you the option of either riding a classic Piaggio Vespa or the electric Vespa option (if youâd feel more at ease driving this model).
Disembarking from Florence in a private minivan, youâre transferred into the countryside, where the excursion occurs.
After a quick safety briefing and instructions on the Vespa specifics, cruise to your first vineyard, the historical Fattoria di Bagnolo. Lap up the tour of the winery and its cellars before moving on to the next.
Enjoy a Tuscan lunch in a grand villa near Greve before the adventure time is up!
- Choose between a morning or afternoon adventure
- Pick either a single or double-seater Vespa
- Round-trip transport to and from Florence is included
- Inclusive of olive oil and wine tastings
- Includes a guided winery and cellars tour in the price
- Please arrive 15 minutes before departure time
- Comfortable clothing is advised
- Over 18s with a valid license can drive; no passengers under 13 years old are allowed
- No previous scooter-driving experience is needed
- Third-party civil liability insurance is included
- Group sizes are capped at 15 pax
At least with this tour, you have the option of choosing an electric Vespa if that puts you more at ease.
Having said that, we recommend trying out the archetypal version. Itâs lighter in weight and smaller in size, making it slightly easier to maneuver.
Newbie riders: this is one of the best Vespa tours in Florence.
8 – Panoramic private tour with personal photographer
Rating: âď¸ 5/5 ( 1 review )
“Thanks for all our photos. We take with us the best memories of Florence and you in our hearts for making our day wonderful.” pilar, Viator
While traveling on the back of a scooter (or driving the moped yourself), forget about having your camera or phone close by.
Instead, with CLICK IN TUSCANY, leave it up to the professionals with a personal photographer capturing your every move !
This scooter tour stays within the city perimeters , weaving down cobbled streets and along picturesque roads.
As itâs a photography-centric excursion, your guide leads you to Florence’s prettiest parts and iconic landmarks that shine as a backdrop.
Hop off at Piazzale Michelangelo , posing on the iconic terrace with all of Florence in the background, for example, and stand in the middle of a rose garden at Giardino delle Rose for your close-up.
- Personal photographer
- Receive digital copies of your photos after the tour
- Limited to groups of four Vespa scooters (one Vespa for every two people)
Traveling through Florence with a guide, you wonât have to think about one-ways and avoiding ticket fines in no-parking zones (all of the signs in Florence are in Italian). Plus, youâll cover more city ground on a scooter.
Take it from us; this is a fabulous option for honeymooners!
9 –Â Florence Vespa Rental
Rating: âď¸ 4.8/5 ( 49 reviews )
“Vespas on our own was amazing oncecout of florence. The scenery to Chianti was memorable would recommend an over night stay.” peggy, viator
If youâre the type of traveler who prefers to take the road less traveled or not stay within the confines of a tour group, then a private Vespa rental for the day is the way to go!
Equipped with a GPS device , simply plug in your self-planned route or Florentine landmarks, and off you go.
Moving at your own pace , spend as much time as you like at each attraction or nearby Tuscan town, pop into any restaurants or cafes that grab your attention and pause for photo-taking without any pressure.
Florence Station Rentalâs office is centrally located, with icons like Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti and Piazzale Michelangelo around the corner.
- Includes Vespa rental and helmet
- A GPS is attached to the Scooter or a special map
- Vespa is equipped with a windshield
- RCA insurance is inclusive of rental price
- A credit card is needed to book your Vespa
- A âŹ500 refundable deposit is required, and this will be returned after scooter drop-off
- Gas is not included
Enjoy more independence and freedom with this option: stay in Florence or choose to head into the hills and explore more of Tuscany.
Driving tip: it helps to get an understanding of how the roads operate in Florence, as cameras guard many one-way sections. Ask the rental company to give you a proper explanation of how things work, and make sure you understand before leaving the office!
