2023 Valspar Championship final results: Prize money payout, leaderboard and how much each golfer won

valspar championship 2023 leaderboard pga tour

The 2023 Valspar Championship final leaderboard is headed by winner Taylor Moore , who earns the PGA Tour win at Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, Fla.

In the final round, Moore set the standard in the clubhouse on 10-under 274 after shooting a final round of 67 -- one shot off the best of the day.

Adam Schenk and Jordan Spieth played in the final group, and each had a share of the lead with just a few holes remaining. However, on No. 18, Schenk hit a poor drive which forced a left-handed second shot. Spieth couldn't make birdie, while Schenk couldn't save par.

Spieth made bogey on the last to fall into a tie for third with Tommy Fleetwood , while Schenk finished in solo second on 9 under.

Moore won the $1,458,000 winner's share of the $8,100,000 purse.

2023 Valspar Championship leaderboard, grades: Taylor Moore outpaces Jordan Spieth for first PGA Tour win

Moore secured himself a spot in the field at augusta national for the 2023 masters with his first victory.

Valspar Championship - Final Round

On a day where a Jordan Spieth trip to the winner's circle or Adam Schenk's maiden victory felt inevitable, it was Taylor Moore who raced out in front to 10 under to claim his first title on the PGA Tour at the 2023 Valspar Championship. Beginning the day two strokes off the pace and two groups in front of the final pairing, the second-year PGA Tour golfer played as if he was the seasoned veteran at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook with a stellar 4-under 67.

Moore's day began in relatively mundane fashion with a birdie on the par-5 opener before a string of five consecutive pars. That would be about as boring as his round would get as a bogey-birdie exchange near the turn saw the Arkansas Razorback head to the inward half 7 under for the tournament and with eyes on pulling off a stunner.

A birdie on the difficult 12th followed, and before Moore knew it, his probability to win skyrocketed. While Spieth and Schenk had moments of their own in the middle of their back nines -- namely a 71-foot birdie from Schenk on the 12th -- Moore had the advantage of posting the clubhouse lead and waiting.

Yet in order for this strategy to be successful, Moore had to hit the correct golf shot at the correct time. He did just that with a laser tee shot on the par-3 15th to set up a birdie and another unlikely birdie conversion on the tough par-4 16th to get to 10 under.

A pair of pars on the final two holes gave Moore the clubhouse lead, and only then did the true madness of the month begin.

Still needing some help from those behind him, the unheralded underdog received just that when the final pair reached the treacherous Snake Pit. Spieth, the tournament favorite, made his biggest blunder of the week at the most inopportune time when his tee shot on the 16th found a watery grave. Still able to recover for bogey, Spieth was faced with needing to make birdie on one of his final two holes. When his 7-foot birdie bid on 17 slid by, a bullet was dodged by Moore.

Schenk, the overnight leader, tried his best to stay afloat with a pair of crucial par saves on 16 and 17 but sealed his faith with an ill-advised tee shot on the 18th. Hitting a snap hook off the tee, Schenk found his ball nestled up against a tree leaving no choice for his second shot but a left-handed layup. When his par effort carried too much speed and raced through the hole, the title was officially Moore's.

Adam Schenk is tied for the lead on the 72nd hole.  Here's where his drive ended up. pic.twitter.com/DeXtMVtkTY — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) March 19, 2023

The win could not have come at a better time for Moore. As a player who ranked 103rd in the Official World Golf Rankings and 53rd in the FedEx Cup at the start of the week, he is one of many members of the PGA Tour's middle class. While some may feel slighted about the changes to the playing schedule coming in 2024, Moore proved one's play can squash any concerns.

With his victory, the 29-year-old will receive an invitation into the first major championship of the year at the 2023 Masters in two weeks time. He rises 49 spots in the FedEx Cup all the way to ninth ahead of the likes of Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa and Patrick Cantlay. Moore's efforts in the Tampa area have propelled him to new heights, and if the rest of his career is anything like the back nine at Innisbrook on Sunday, there's a chance he stays there. Grade: A

Here is the breakdown of the rest of the leaderboard at the 2023 Valspar Championship

T3. Jordan Spieth (-8): For much of the day, it felt as if Spieth reigning supreme for the second time at the Copperhead Course was destined to happen. Playing a "boring" round for his standards, Spieth's first 15 holes featured three birdies and 12 pars. Trouble struck in the form of a wayward tee shot on the 16th, and while he managed to save bogey, the damage was already down.

"I made two bad swings today," said Spieth. "I got away with the one on 6 and I didn't get away with the one on 16. Fought hard from there and made a nice bogey, and then a nice couple shots on the last couple, and that 18th pin is just brutal there. You just can't rely on having to birdie that hole to that pin."

A missed opportunity on the 17th sealed his fate, but not all is lost for Spieth. He continues to strike his irons adequately and made some crucial putts down the stretch, squashing any potential issues with the putter. His eyes are surely on Augusta National, but one has to wonder: If Spieth is unable to take down Moore and Schenk, will his game stack up to the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm?  Grade: B

T3. Tommy Fleetwood (-8):  Going into Sunday's final round, Fleetwood had entered the final round of a pro event inside the top five nearly 40 times. On average, he gained 0.5 strokes against the field in those performances, winning four of them and losing the rest. That's not terrible, but it's also not great. He has not thrived in those scenarios. To give you an example of some other true SG numbers of players who fell into those buckets, here they are.

  • Bryson DeChambeau: 2.0
  • Fony Finau: 1.9
  • Jon Rahm: 1.9
  • Dustin Johnson: 1.8
  • Rory McIlroy: 1.8
  • Justin Thomas: 1.4
  • Rickie Fowler: 0.9
  • Jordan Spieth: 0.8

Fleetwood is obviously a really good golfer, and he was terrific all week, but until he's able to close out a tournament on the PGA Tour, there will certainly be some question marks. Are those fair given how much he's won on the DP World Tour? I don't know, but they will continue to persist.  Grade: B-

6. Sam Burns (-5):  Burns has now lost to five golfers in his last three Valspars. He had a monster closing kick in which he shot the second-best round of the day on Sunday and began leaderboard creeping a bit with the leaders on the front nine. He was too far back entering the last 18 holes to make any real noise, but this was a really nice outcome for him following a MC-MC-T35 stretch coming in. Burns said he's been trying to dial in his driver following a failure in regulation testing at Riv — "that was a tough couple weeks, trying to figure out something I like" — and it seems like he finally did. Burns finished in the top 15 in driving this week and appears to be back on track.  Grade: A-

T10. Justin Thomas (-3):  J.T. had a nice week following a lousy Players Championship. His iron play has been really consistent for the last month following Riviera, but the putting is still a bit of a concern heading into the Masters. It's something to keep an eye on at Match Play in Austin next week as he gets his final prep work in for Augusta. To put his week into perspective, his tee-to-green play was better than Spieth's. If he putts, he probably wins. That's a pretty good place to be, but at some point you do actually have to putt.  Grade: B+

MC. Matt Fitzpatrick (+3):  It has not been a year anyone expected from Fitzpatrick so far. He made a 9 on his third hole of the golf tournament, went out in 42 and never recovered. Fitz has been struggling with some neck injuries over the first few months of 2023, and doesn't have a top 10 since finishing T7 at the Tournament of Champions in January. That's disconcerting heading into major championship season, and Fitzpatrick doesn't have much time to get his body and his game in a good spot for Augusta.  Grade: D-

2023 Valspar Championship leaderboard: Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas in the mix entering Moving Day

Adam schenk will look to fend off some of the biggest names in the sport over the next 36 holes.

valspar championship 2023 leaderboard pga tour

PGA Tour veteran Adam Schenk heads into the weekend at the 2023 Valspar Championship with the solo lead at 7 under. After commanding a share of the first-round lead, the former Purdue Boilermakers golfer continued to push ahead early Friday morning with a 2-under 69. While his alma mater may be a No. 1 seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, Schenk will play the role of an underdog Cinderella over the next 36 holes with Tommy Fleetwood (-5), Jordan Spieth (-5) and Justin Thomas (-3) all nipping at his heels.

Sam Burns is also on the outskirts of contention at even par. He looks to become the first player since Steve Stricker to successfully win a tournament three years in a row; he arrived as the two-time defending champion at Innisbrook. After his previous driver was ruled nonconforming earlier this season, he has finally found a comfortable replacement and it has shown at the Copperhead Course.

Stricker is not the only former Valspar Championship winner who may factor over the weekend as Spieth reigned supreme eight years ago in the Tampa area. Having been in contention at the WM Phoenix Open and Arnold Palmer Invitational, Spieth will have eyes on positioning himself for the final nine come Sunday.

1. Adam Schenk (-7):  Schenk has not taken a single week off in 2023. Yes, you read that correctly. Beginning his year at the Sony Open, Schenk's appearance in the Valspar Championship marks his 10th consecutive week of competition. During this span, he has connected on seven made cuts with his best finish a T20 at the Farmers Insurance Open. While unconventional, Schenk's reason for this nonstop schedule is a good one: He and his wife are expecting a child in the coming weeks.

"I've generally played a lot anyway, but having a little baby boy here in about a month and a half, so trying to make as many points as I can to take as much time off as I can and spend time with him and my wife, which will be very special," said Schenk.

Maybe his wife hates him?! 👀👀 https://t.co/fBXjyBrr9n — Kourtney Schenk (@Kourtney_Schenk) March 7, 2023

In contentention

2. Kramer Hickok (-6) T3. Tommy Fleetwood, Jordan Spieth, Cody Gribble, Davis Riley (-5) T7. Wyndham Clark, Matt Wallace, Taylor Moore, J.T. Poston, Stephan Jaegar (-4) T12. Justin Thomas, Webb Simpson, Adam Long, Byeong Hun An, Doug Ghim, Rory Sabbatini, Alex Smalley, Lucas Glover (-3)

The debate for the best player without a PGA Tour win often centers around young stars like Cameron Young and Sahith Theegala, but Fleetwood rightfully belongs in the conversation. The Englishman has been close a number of times, especially in the state of Florida, and he likes his chances to finally break through (if he's able to remain patient).

"Sometimes you have it, sometimes you lose it, sometimes you are somewhere in between," Fleetwood said of his patience. "So far this week, I've done a good job of it. It's just always something you pick up on, whether it's your own expectations or trying to force things when you feel like it's not going your way. It's such a difficult thing to do. I can only sort of speak about the last two days, and I feel like I've done a good job of that. I just want to keep that attitude going into the weekend. Obviously, the further you get sort of along the week, the harder it gets in a way. But, yeah, just keep the attitude going and take each shot as it comes."

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em

Hickok missed eight of his first nine cuts in the 2022-23 season and went searching for answers. Instead of word of mouth or the advice of others, he simply looked at which swing coach's golfers were playing the best. With this in mind, Hickok sought out the advice of Mark Blackburn. The fruits of their labor are beginning to blossom as Hickok arrived at the Valspar Championship having made three straight cuts, including a T14 finish at the Honda Classic.

"I switched coaches back in the fall, and I'm just making some swing changes, and so when I get in tournaments, it's sort of reverts back to my bad habits. ... It's certainly better than it was last week, and it's better than it was a week before. It's just coming along," said Hickok on his new partnership with swing coach Mark Blackburn. "His guys were playing really well. Max Homa has been playing great. Chez Reavie seems to win every other year. Trey Mullinax won last year. He's got Justin Rose; he won this year. So, I just tried to follow the hot hand, and he's really helped me a lot. I'm really excited about our path together."

Wait, why is Rob Gronkowski here?

The former Patriots and Buccaneers tight end was on the grounds at Innisbrook on Friday. Taking in the sights and scenes, Gronkowski stole the spotlight with his charisma and his own personal take on Scottie Scheffler's Masters champions' dinner menu.

"My menu would be cheeseburgers, chicken finger subs, buffalo wings with blue cheese on the side, and of course my lovely ice shaker right here with an ice cold beverage inside, just getting a little tipsy at all times, baby," said Gronkowski. "Is that when you meant by 'menu,' like, food?"

2023 Valspar Championship odds, picks

Odds via Caesars Sportsbook

  • Jordan Spieth: 5-1
  • Tommy Fleetwood: 27/4
  • Adam Schenk: 15/2
  • Kramer Hickok: 17/2
  • Justin Thomas: 9-1
  • Davis Riley: 10-1
  • Wyndham Clark: 12-1
  • Stephan Jaegar: 18-1
  • Taylor Moore: 18-1
  • J.T. Poston: 25-1

Thomas sits only two strokes off his good friend, Spieth, and has yet to strike his irons well. He ranks second in strokes gained off the tee and ninth in strokes gained approach. So, if his typical approach play -- his usual strong point -- shows up over the weekend, he will be in good shape. Poston at 25-1 is also intriguing as he leads the field in strokes gained approach. The two-time PGA Tour winner is a player who has appeared keen on grabbing his third and should his putter begin to cooperate he may do just that.

Grade: D-

2023 Valspar Championship picks, odds, field: Surprising PGA predictions from model that nailed 8 majors

Sportsline's proven model simulated the valspar championship 2023 10,000 times and revealed its surprising golf picks.

sam-burns-1.jpg

The 2023 Valspar Championship gets underway from the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort on Thursday, March 16. Experienced and amateur bettors alike will lock in wagers for this event, which features a great mix of proven champions and budding superstars eager to make their mark on the PGA Tour. Major champions like Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose are expected to be in the mix at the 2023 Valspar Championship, with 500 FedEx Cup points going to the winner.

Thomas is a two-time major champion and he's going off as the 10-1 favorite according to the latest 2023 Valspar Championship odds. He's followed by Spieth (12-1), Sam Burns (15-1) and Fitzpatrick (18-1) on the PGA odds board. Should you back one of the favorites, or should you look at a longshot like Webb Simpson (80-1), who's collected seven career wins on the PGA Tour? Before locking in your 2023 Valspar Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $8,300 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model predicted Jon Rahm to finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions, the American Express and the Genesis Invitational. The model also included J.T. Poston in its best bets to win the 2022 John Deere Classic. That bet hit at +5500, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned almost $1,100. At the 2022 Masters, McClure's model was all over Scottie Scheffler's first career major championship victory heading into the weekend.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright at the 2021 Open Championship, even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. The model was also all over Rahm's (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner.

This same model has also nailed a whopping eight majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2023 Valspar Championship field is locked, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard .

Top 2023 Valspar Championship predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the Valspar Championship 2023: Burns, the two-time defending champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles this week and barely cracks the top 10. Burns got off to a fast start in 2023, finishing T-11 or better in two of his first three starts.

However, Burns has struggled mightily in recent weeks, missing the cut in two of his last three starts and finishing T-35 at the Players Championship. Burns' recent struggles can be directly attributed to his iron play. The 26-year-old enters this week's event ranked 164th in greens in regulation percentage (64.37%) and 186th in strokes gained: approach to green (-.658). He also ranks 194th on the PGA Tour in approaches from inside 100 yards. He's not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the Valspar Championship 2023 field.

Another surprise: Adam Hadwin, a 28-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.

Hadwin doesn't explode off the tee quite as much as some of the other top contenders, but he ranks among the best putters in this week's field. In fact, Hadwin currently ranks inside the top-50 in total putting (149.8), putting average (1.726) and overall putting average (1.582). The 35-year-old also ranks inside the top-25 in driving accuracy percentage (64.38%) and strokes gained: total (.986). If he's striking the ball well this week, he'll have a great shot at finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Valspar Championship.  See who else to pick here .

How to make 2023 Valspar Championship picks

The model is also targeting four other golfers with odds of 25-1 or longer who will make surprising runs. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big.  You can only see the model's PGA picks here .

So who will win the Valspar Championship 2023? And which longshots stun the golfing world? Check out the 2023 Valspar Championship odds below and then visit SportsLine to see the projected 2023 Valspar Championship leaderboard , all from the model that's nailed eight golf majors, including last year's Masters.
