Is It Correct to Say “We Look Forward to Seeing You”?

“We look forward to seeing you” is common in formal emails or situations when you might meet someone soon. Though uncommon, you might find the phrase included in a letter when you’re excited to see someone. This article will explore whether it’s correct (and what to say instead).

“We look forward to seeing you” is grammatically correct. You may use it in formal English because it uses “we look forward to” as a phrasal verb and “seeing” in the gerund form. You’ll find it works best when you are excited to see someone again after a while apart.

Is It Correct to Say We Look Forward to Seeing You

It is correct English, but there are some issues that people come across with it.

Firstly, people struggle to use the correct verb form of “see.” “We look forward to see you” is a common mistake, where people think “see” needs to be infinitive after “to.”

Instead, “see” should become “seeing.” “To” is a preposition, and a gerund form (i.e. “seeing”) needs to come after the preposition to show how the action is occurring.

Secondly, there’s the addition of verbs like “to be.” “We are looking forward to seeing you” is common, but “are” slightly changes the meaning. You may notice that “look” becomes “looking” in this case too. Now, we use “looking” and “seeing” as gerund forms to show a continuous action.

“Are” implies that you actively look forward to seeing someone on every possible occasion until you see them again. There’s nothing wrong with this, but it’s the continuous tense, which isn’t required in formal English.

Now that you know all the intricacies, here are some examples to show you how to use “we look forward to seeing you” in a sentence:

  • We look forward to seeing you tomorrow. It’s been so long since we last met.
  • We look forward to seeing you all . Do you want us to bring anything along?

Now we’ve covered that “we look forward to seeing you” is correct, it’s time to explore alternatives. We’ve gathered some great suggestions on what to say instead of “we look forward to seeing you.”

Other Ways to Say “We Look Forward to Seeing You”

Other ways to say “we look forward to seeing you” are “looking forward to seeing you,” “ hope to see you soon ,” and “we look forward to meeting you .” These are the best synonyms for remaining polite and formal as you email or message someone.

1. Looking Forward to Seeing You

“Looking forward to seeing you” shows you are excited to see someone . It works as another way to say “we look forward to seeing you” by removing “we” and changing “look” to the gerund form.

This allows you to be more general. You don’t have to refer to the people who are “seeing” someone. You can avoid a pronoun entirely to show someone you’re happy to see them soon.

  • Looking forward to seeing you later. Is there anything you’d like me to bring to the meeting?
  • Looking forward to seeing you again. I’ll mark it on my calendar to remind myself.

2. Hope to See You Soon

“Hope to see you soon” is a formal option that works well to replace the phrase. It’s an example of how to say “we look forward to seeing you” politely because “hope” shows that you’re hoping that your meeting or visit will go well.

Formal phrases are often more concise than other phrases. It’s best to avoid using too many words when writing formally to avoid annoying the recipient. That’s why “hope to see you soon” often comes without a pronoun before it.

  • Hope to see you soon. It’s been nice to catch up after all this time.
  • Of course. Hope to see you soon. Let me know when you’re back in town.

3. We Look Forward to Meeting You

“We look forward to meeting you” is a great alternative to use here. It shows that you’re keen to meet someone as a group (using “we”), though it refers to the first time you “meet” them.

This is great for formal occasions when meeting someone new. “Meet” only works on your first introduction to someone. Every introduction after the first one should be a “see” rather than a “meet.”

  • We look forward to meeting you. It’s not often that we come across someone with your talents.
  • We look forward to meeting you. Is there anything else you’d like from us before we continue?

4. We Are Excited

“We are excited” is a great synonym here. It shows that you are “excited,” which is synonymous with “look forward to.” The only difference is that “excited” tends to appear a bit more friendly and informal.

If you want to show genuine excitement, you can use this phrase. It shows that you are happy to meet with someone and talk to them. It’s also a good show of respect, which can work well in formal and informal situations.

  • We are excited about this. We hope it’s everything you expect it to be and more.
  • We are excited. Let’s get this business relationship on the road.

5. We’re Excited to See You

“We’re excited to see you ” is another great option that shows your excitement. You may extend “we are excited” to include “to see you,” showing the exact reason for your excitement.

While “we are excited” works well, adding “to see you” makes it much clearer for the recipient. It shows that you’re overjoyed to see someone and want to make the most of your time with them.

  • We’re excited to see you. It’s nice to be able to connect with you at times like these.
  • We’re excited to see you again. Have you got any ideas about what you want to do next time ?

6. I’m Happy to See You

“I’m happy to see you” shows that you’re looking forward to seeing someone at some point. It works best when a meeting has already been arranged, as “happy” implies that you agree to the dates or times suggested.

You may also add “soon” to the end of the phrase, but you’ll need to change the pronoun tense. It’s best to say:

  • I’ll be happy to see you soon.

You may choose which one you think is more appropriate for you.

  • I’m happy to see you. Let me know what times work best for you before we figure anything out.
  • I’m happy to see you. Do you have some ideas for what we can do next?

7. Looking Forward to It

“Looking forward to it” works well without including a personal pronoun to show that you are excited to see someone. You may start a sentence with “looking,” though it isn’t always the best choice formally.

If you leave a pronoun out of the sentence, the sentence won’t be officially “complete.” It will be a sentence fragment, which is great to use when you want to get to the point as soon as possible .

  • Looking forward to it. Of course, I’ll have to order some things for the meeting before it takes place.
  • Looking forward to it. I’ll be there to help you settle the score.

20 Formal Replies to “See You Soon”

Formal Replies to See You Soon

When you hear the phrase, “See you soon”, you probably think of a goodbye, a farewell, a “get back quickly”, and a few more of the like. And you would be right.

There are many reasons why a person would tell another “See you soon”, and as in the subject for this article, we will be focusing on the formal side of things.

Someone like your boss could say “see you soon” as a loaded statement to say he expects certain results or certain tasks done in as little time as possible and report back to him. And then that’s only one of the many ways it could be used and the meanings it could have.

Now that we have clarified what the phrase “see you soon” could be used for and how it could be used, what do you say to someone in a formal tone of speech when they tell you that they will “see you soon”?

Here are a few different ways you could be polite, formal, and respectful while replying to anyone in the given setting.

While it might not be a formal meeting , for example, you can say “I am counting down to our next meeting” when someone intones “See you soon”.

Regardless of the formality, it is a way to say that you are looking forward to spending time with them. It might be a simple picnic for example, that you are both planning towards but you use the word meeting for formality.

2. Affirmative, until our paths cross again.

If the person who tells you “see you soon” is someone you are not likely to see anytime soon, you can respond with “Affirmative, until our paths cross again”.

A response like this tells them you are willing to see them again however it is dependent on when you two will meet – something you are both not sure of.

3. Thank you for the guidance sir/ma. I’ll see you soon

When you exchange farewells and someone says “See you soon” you can use it as an opportunity to appreciate them for what they have done like “Thank you for the guidance sir/ma. I’ll see you soon”.

Appreciating them for what they have done, be it guidance or otherwise, will spur them to do more. You can then say see you soon which shows hope in meeting them again.

4. I appreciate your time, and I’ll be ready for our next meeting.

“I appreciate your time, and I’ll be ready for our next meeting” is a great response when shaking hands with someone saying “See you soon”.

If you are trying to seal a deal and you have come to a conclusion that will warrant further meetings, you can say this to end the discussion and tell them that you appreciate the time they have given you, what you have achieved and you look forward to seeing them again for further business.

5. Thank you for your leadership. I’ll be sure to handle matters as best I can.

“Thank you for your leadership. I’ll be sure to handle matters as best I can” as a response to give to your boss, senior colleague, or anyone who is above you who says “See you soon”.

If they are taking a break and leaving you in charge for a while, this response is you promising to supervise things and handle them when they are gone. You are also thanking them for showing you the ropes and putting you through.

6. Likewise, do have a great day.

“Likewise, do have a great day” is a somewhat casual response to “See you soon”. You can use this with anyone anywhere and it will fit into the conversation without a hitch.

You can also modify the response with any wish of your choice. For example, you can say stay safe if you are both heading out for the day.

You can say have a safe trip if they are making a journey, and if you are closer to them you can give a more personalized wish like I hope you get the job or break a leg at your audition today.

7. Take care, and let’s catch up soon

Formal Replies to See You Soon

If you are both going away for a long time, say you are on leave and you won’t be saying, in response to “see you soon”, you can “Take care, and let’s catch up soon”.

This remark shows care for their well-being and tells you that you would like to know how they are doing. It can also mean that you would like to keep in touch during the break period till you can see again.

8. Till our next rendezvous, stay safe

If you are trying to keep a professional air, you can say “Till our next rendezvous, stay safe” when whoever you are speaking to says “See you soon”.

First off, you are being polite with your wish for them to stay safe. You are also telling them you are looking forward to the next meeting without showing off any excitement or enthusiasm that might make you seem too friendly and unprofessional.

9. I’ll ensure everything is prepared for our next session together, sir/ma

Formal Replies to See You Soon

“I’ll ensure everything is prepared for our next session together, sir/ma” is a response suitable for a person who says “see you soon” and sees you on a regular basis.

In this case, your meetings are weekly or monthly and you draw up agreements for each session, for example, things to put in place or implement. This response is an assurance of your commitment to preparation before the next meeting.

10. Thank you. I’ll be ready for our next rendezvous

You might get a notification, an email, or a message informing you beforehand of the next rendezvous. If the sender ends it with “See you soon”, you can decide to ignore it and address the content of the message. A response like “Thank you. I’ll be ready for our upcoming meeting” does just that.

You can also ask if there is anything you need to bring, other things you need to take note of or any tasks you are to handle in relation to the meeting.

11. See you soon, I will await your orders.

If you are to handle a particular task, you can respond with “See you soon, I will await your orders” when they say see you soon.

It is a wonderful response to give a person that you will be in touch with and working with even when you are not together physically.

You are assuring them that you would be ready for work anytime they are ready till you see you again, sometime soon.

12. I appreciate the opportunity, see you at the next meeting.

If someone says “See you soon” it signifies that you will have another meeting and the current one has come to a close. In this case, you can respond “I appreciate the opportunity, see you at the next meeting”.

It is always an opportunity to serve and to be trusted with one position or the other. If you have been trusted with a task or a position, acknowledging and appreciating it is not a bad thing. It shows humility and willingness to serve.

13. I appreciate your time and insights. Until our next interaction, see you soon!

Having someone take the time to look into your work, point out errors, and highlight places to improve is refreshing.

While it may not leave you feeling too good and confident, when they finally wrap with “see you soon”, you can boldly respond with “I  appreciate your time and insights. Until our next interaction, see you soon!”

This reply explains to them that you are grateful for the time they have taken out to go through your work and the ideas they gave you. You appear willing to put them to use and this will make them willing to do more work with you.

14. Sure. Do keep in mind our last discussion and let me know how things go.

Let’s switch things up a bit. In the event that you are the one in charge and a subordinate says “See you soon”, you can say “Sure. Do keep in mind our last discussion and let me know how things go”.

This response will remind them of work or tasks that they have to do. Asking them to let you know how things go is a subtle way to request feedback even before the two of you meet again.

15. I will do my best to communicate with you as soon as possible

Another reason someone can say “see you soon” is to tell you to be back in time from an errand or send feedback as early as possible so that he is in the loop of things, in which you can reply “I will do my best to communicate with 0you as soon as possible”.

While they subtly tell you to step on it, your reply tells them that you are in control of how much time it will take but you will get back to them when you can as soon as you can.

16. It might not be as soon as you anticipate but I will keep you informed

Still on the reason of speed for an assignment or project, your boss or anyone can say “see you soon” to get you to work quicker.”

It might not be as soon as you anticipate but I will keep you informed” is a remark that tells whoever is speaking to you that you are not in control of the time and the speed of things.

It however promises to work as fast as possible and keep him posted all the way, throughout the process. Be sure that you say this respectfully so you do not sound like you are challenging him or giving excuses.

17. Farewell [name of person], we will keep in touch throughout the break

“See you soon” can be said to say goodbye to a colleague, or an acquaintance, and “Farewell [name of person], we will keep in touch throughout the break” can be said in response.

This response clearly asks the person not to cut off communication while you two are away but to keep you informed of all that is going on.

Based on your previous conversations, what the two of you would be discussing might be work-related or just casual.

18. Unfortunately, this is our last meeting. It has been nice working with you. Thank you

Formal Replies to See You Soon

Time goes by quickly when you are having fun and when you are with amazing clients such that when they say “See you soon”, and you respond with “Unfortunately, this is our last meeting. It has been nice working with you. Thank you” it a sad shock for them.

If you have a business deal or transaction that you have rounded up, this response appreciates their patronage.

This also works for employees. If you are paired together with a colleague you haven’t worked with before on a project, after the execution of the project, this response will compliment and make them feel good.

19. Just a moment. There is a matter I would like us to converse on

Since a person can say, “See you soon” to politely end a conversation, you can politely say “Just a moment. “There is a matter I would like us to converse on” to let them know you wish to continue the conversation.

With a response like this, you can discuss whatever you have in mind whether it is formal or informal. You can also set the discussion to hold whenever you want to if it is more convenient for both of you that way.

20. Thank you for your patronage. Please, do come again

Formal Replies to See You Soon

To maintain professionalism, when a customer tells you “See you soon” you can say “Thank you for your patronage. Please, do come again” to encourage them to purchase from your store again.

While the customer who says “see you soon” intones such because he hopes to come back, you use this response to be polite, acknowledge what they have said, and encourage their patronage. Any other response might be too casual, too friendly, or seem nonchalant.

Final words

In a setting where things are more official, take for example, a school, an office or a workplace, a business place, etc., you can’t always be in said place and sometimes would need to leave to either return to base (as in return to your home) or head to your duties or head out on errands, saying “see you soon”  once in a while is not exactly a strange occurrence.

But in a situation where you are told that in a good formal setting, above, we have given 25 different ways to reply to such a phrase that are polite, respectful, and appropriate for a reply to a colleague or superior for almost any given situation or preference.

With these, you could be confident in replying to your boss, teacher, customer, etc., and not make things awkward for you.

You'll soon be able to get an automatic refund when your flight is delayed or canceled

  • Airlines must start providing passengers with automatic refunds when flights are delayed or canceled.
  • New regulations announced Wednesday mean passengers can also get automatic refunds on delayed baggage.
  • Previously, airlines set their own policies about when passengers were eligible for refunds.

Airlines are to be required to provide passengers with "prompt" automatic refunds when their flights are delayed or canceled under a new rule from the Department of Transportation, announced on Wednesday .

The regulations, which are being rolled out over the next six to 12 months, also entitle passengers to automatic refunds for delays to checked bags and for airlines' failure to provide paid-for extra services.

Under the DOT regulations, passengers can get a refund if their flight is canceled or significantly changed and they don't accept alternative transportation or travel credits offered. This includes domestic flights delayed by more than three hours and international flights delayed by more than six hours.

Significant changes that make passengers eligible for a refund include a change in the departure or arrival airport, an increase in the number of connections, and being downgraded to a lower traveling class. Passengers can also get a refund if they're switched to connections at different airports or flights on different planes that are less accessible for a person with a disability.

Previously, airlines set their own standards for which circumstances passengers could get a refund in, which could make it confusing for passengers trying to figure out whether they were eligible for a refund and how to apply, the DOT said in a press release.

It added that some airlines gave passengers a travel credit or voucher by default, meaning they couldn't use their refund to rebook on another airline "without navigating a cumbersome request process."

Passengers are also entitled to a refund of their checked bag fee if their bag is delayed and they file a mishandled baggage report. The DOT says that the policy covers bags that aren't delivered within 12 hours of a domestic flight arriving at the gate, or 15 to 30 hours for an international flight, depending on the length of the flight.

And if passengers pay extra for a service such as WiFi, seat selection, or in-flight entertainment and then don't receive this, they're entitled to a refund for the fee they paid.

"The new rule makes it easy for passengers to obtain refunds when airlines cancel or significantly change their flights, significantly delay their checked bags, or fail to provide the extra services they purchased," the DOT said in a press release.

As well as being automatic, the refunds must be "prompt," which it describes as within seven business days for credit card purchases and 20 calendar days for other payment methods.

The refunds must be in whatever payment method the passenger originally used, whether cash, credit card, or airline miles, rather than substituting vouchers or travel credits unless the passenger accepts alternative compensation.

The DOT also noted that airlines must provide a full refund, including all government-imposed taxes and fees and airline-imposed fees.

Many passengers have previously spoken to Business Insider about their troubles getting compensation for delayed and canceled flights and lost luggage. In 2020, when flights were canceled due to waves of COVID lockdowns, the DOT got more than 102,000 complaints from airline customers in total. Nearly 90,000 were related to refunds.

Travel chaos spiked in the summer of 2022 as vacationers returned to the skies after the pandemic canceled their plans during the two prior years. Summer travel this year is also expected to be significantly disrupted, with Boeing delaying some plane deliveries .

Which nursing homes meet new federal staffing standards? See data for your local facility.

For decades, academic research has shown staffing levels reliably predict the quality of care in nursing homes. a usa today analysis shows many southern states have the lowest staffing levels..

will visit you soon

Nearly all nursing homes in America will have to hire more nurses and aides under a new rule released this week that mandates a minimum level of staffing , although the gap is significantly wider in many Southern states.

Just 160 skilled nursing facilities out of roughly 14,500 that receive federal payments for care met the new requirements every day last summer, according to the most recent daily time card data available to the public and analyzed by USA TODAY. Most nursing homes met core components of the new rule on only three days out of 92 in the quarter.

About half the time, facilities had enough people to provide each resident at least 0.55 hours of care from a registered nurse (RN) each day, as the new rules require. About one day each week, the facilities could provide each resident 2.45 hours of care from a certified nursing assistant (CNA, or aide), which they must do every day under the new rules. In addition, nursing homes have to provide a total of at least 3.45 hours per resident of daily nurse-and-aide staffing as well as have a registered nurse on site 24/7.

Map: Do nursing homes near you meet the new standards?

The map below shows federally funded skilled nursing facilities and how short, on average, they were from meeting the requirement for at least 3.45 hours of daily nurse-and-aide care, based on a USA TODAY analysis of the summer 2023 quarter. Blue dots indicate facilities that met the standard more often than not. Don’t see a nursing home map? Click here .

The USA TODAY analysis found that many facilities comply with some components of the rule at least part of the time, but it is rare for them to consistently meet all the minimums.

It was more common for nursing homes to have enough registered nurses, with most meeting the minimum about half the time. It was less common for facilities to have enough aides on duty, with most only having enough CNAs about one-third of the time.

The rules will be phased in over three years. The regulation also allows an exemption to the rules for facilities that can prove they are located in an area with a shortage of health-care workers and have made a good faith effort to hire more nurses and aides.

Why is it important to have enough nurses and aides staffing a nursing home?

For decades, academic research has shown that staffing levels reliably predict the quality of care in nursing homes and that shortages increase the risk of delayed response to daily needs, like toileting and eating, as well as medical emergencies, such as falls and strokes. A pivotal federal study from 20 years ago, when most nursing home residents were younger and healthier than today, suggested a minimum of 4.1 hours per resident each day – more than the new rule.

These are the first nationwide minimum staffing rules with numeric benchmarks, which supporters have said will make it easier to track and enforce.

Regulations have long required – and still do – that skilled nursing facilities have enough nurses and aides with the correct training to meet the needs of every resident’s care plan. Some people require more care from a registered nurse for complex medical conditions. Others need more assistance from an aide with daily tasks like getting out of bed or eating. A previous USA TODAY investigation found, however, that the rule was rarely enforced .

Service Employees International Union (SEIU), a union representing many health care professions, had advocated for the new staffing minimums as crucial to reducing burnout and turnover among nurses and aides in addition to the benefits for the residents they serve. The new rule could result in nursing homes hiring more than 200,000 additional care workers – if they can find them.

Which states have the biggest gap in nursing home staffing compared to the new rules?

It is more common in several Southern states for skilled nursing facilities to operate with fewer nurses and aides than the new rule would require.

In Louisiana, nursing homes had, on average, the total minimum staffing on just 3 out of 92 days in the summer quarter last year. The next lowest were Texas (4 days), Oklahoma (8), Tennessee (8) and Georgia (9).

Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas had the biggest gap to fill on registered nurse staffing, meeting the new requirement on 6 days, 14 days and 16 days out of 92. In addition to Puerto Rico, Guam and Washington, D.C., three states, on average, had facilities meeting the new standard at least 75 days in the quarter: Alaska (90), Hawaii (88), Utah (79), Maine (76) and Delaware (75).

Many Southern states also fared poorly when comparing current staffing of aides to the new requirements. Out of 92 days, facilities met the CNA requirement on 11 days in Texas, 15 days in Tennessee and 16 days in Virginia. On the flip side, facilities, on average, met the requirement on 89 days in Alaska, 81 days in Oregon and 72 days in North Dakota.

Congress approved a TikTok ban. Why it could still be years before it takes effect.

A person holds a sign supporting TikTok at the U.S. Capitol.

TikTok’s fate in the U.S. has never been more in doubt after Congress approved a bill that gives its parent company two options: sell it to an approved buyer or see it banned.

President Joe Biden signed the legislation into law on Wednesday.

But it could take years for the TikTok ban to actually go into effect, since its Chinese-owned parent company, ByteDance, is likely to challenge the statute in court.

And even if it survives a legal challenge, no one is quite sure what would happen next.

How soon could a potential ban take effect?

It would probably be several years from now.

According to the statute’s language, ByteDance would have nine months to divest and find an American buyer for TikTok once the bill is signed into law.

On top of that, the president can push back the deadline by an additional 90 days.

That means, without a sale, the soonest TikTok could shut down in the U.S. would be more than one year from now.

But it’s more complicated than that.

If ByteDance sues to block the implementation of the statute — which it has said it would do — the bill will be taken up by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, according to Isaac Boltansky, director of policy for the financial services firm BTIG.

Boltansky said ByteDance would file a suit no later than this fall. And while the case is under judicial review, the “clock” on any ban is effectively paused, he said.

Once the D.C. court issues its ruling, whichever side loses is likely to request a review by the U.S. Supreme Court.

That would forestall the ban by another year — meaning nothing would go into effect until 2026, Boltansky said.

TikTok will argue that the ban is unconstitutional and that it’s also taken steps to protect American users’ data. The app has already launched an aggressive lobbying campaign, featuring a number of small-business owners and influencers who say it's their lifeblood.

“We have got to make enough noise so that they don’t take away our voice,” TikTok user @dadlifejason, who has 13.8 million followers, says in a TikTok ad shared on social media.

What about finding a buyer?

The bill stipulates that TikTok can continue to operate in the U.S. if ByteDance sells the app to a U.S.-approved firm.

While large U.S. tech companies would love to get their hands on the platform, Boltansky said that Biden administration regulators — not to mention GOP critics of Big Tech firms — have no interest in expanding the power, reach or influence of such companies.

Some other outside groups might emerge. At least one led by Steve Mnuchin, who was Treasury secretary in the Trump administration, has already sought to make a bid, telling CNBC in March that he was putting together an investor group . The Wall Street Journal has also reported that former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick was looking for potential buyer partners. While ByteDance, which owns other companies, is worth hundreds of billions of dollars, TikTok would fetch less than that, experts say — especially if it is sold without its powerful recommendation algorithm.

But Boltansky believes ByteDance is unlikely to agree to any kind of sale. The Chinese government has said as much, arguing that it regards the algorithm as a national security asset. And without that, TikTok becomes much less appealing to potential buyers.

So is TikTok in the U.S. going away?

It might — but the ultimate impact may be limited. The fact is, most TikTok users already have a presence on other platforms, so the impact on their livelihoods to the extent that they operate businesses on TikTok could be limited.

According to a survey from the financial services group Wedbush, approximately 60% of TikTok user respondents said they’d simply migrate to Instagram (or Facebook) in the event of a sale, while 19% said they’d go to YouTube.

Analysts with financial services company Bernstein arrived at similar estimates. In a note to clients, they forecast that Meta, which owns Instagram and Facebook, would take over as much as 60% of TikTok’s U.S. ad revenue, with YouTube gaining 25%. Snapchat would also benefit, they said.

Why did lawmakers feel they needed to take this drastic step?

Boltansky said many political pundits remain surprised that the bill got over the finish line. But a wave of anxiety about both Chinese influence and the impact of social media on youth converged to get it passed.

“This has been noteworthy,” Boltansky said. “Everyone is so conditioned to D.C. doing nothing or the bare minimum to keep the lights on.”

As tensions with Beijing have grown, congressional lawmakers, along with top law enforcement officials, have warned that TikTok is controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and is a national security threat to the United States.

“It screams out with national security concerns,” FBI Director Christopher Wray testified on Capitol Hill last year

U.S. officials fear that the Chinese government is using TikTok to access data from, and spy on, its American users, spreading disinformation and conspiracy theories.

It felt like a TikTok ban was moving slowly, then quickly. What happened?

The House passed its standalone TikTok bill on a big bipartisan vote in March. But the Senate appeared in no hurry to take up the measure as Commerce Chair Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., drafted her own legislation.

That all changed when Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., working with the White House, rolled out his $95 billion foreign aid supplemental plan last week that included billions of dollars for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.

Included in that sweeping aid package: the House’s TikTok bill, with some minor changes. Johnson pushed the package through his chamber, then sent the House on a recess, forcing the Senate to take it or leave it.

Rather than further delay the critical, long-stalled military and humanitarian aid, the Democratic-controlled Senate is moving to quickly pass the package — including the TikTok bill and other Johnson priorities.
