Complete Dashboard / Instrument Panel Removal

2010 dodge journey dash removal

  • Add to quote

1999 Grand Caravan Replacing the evaporator (front). I'm at the "Grand Finale" stage where only the pivot bolts should be holding the dash in. It won't budge. Feels like it's welded in place. I've gone back over several different walk throughs for this procedure and verified that all bolts and connections are removed and disconnected. Tugged on it. pulled it, jerked it, tapped on it, banged on it.....won't budge. Anyone that's done this, is there something that could have an "adhesive effect" from being bolted in place for 15 years?

Never mind. Got it. It's out. Took about 3 hours to remove. It's actually surprisingly easy. The more I work on these vans the more I have to tip my hat to the Dodge Engineers. Worked on MANY cars and almost everything about this vehicle lends itself to easy maintenance. I would buy another in a second. Even with the known faults, it's very well designed....and this is a 1999 model. For anyone reading this down the road.....the dash is not as heavy as many say. It only weighs about 65 - 70 lbs but most of it, probably 80% of it is on the driver side and because it is rather wide, that makes it awkward. I lifted it and carried it easily. So can you.

I'm approaching the end of disassembly on my 1999 Grand Voyager (currently removing the exterior power rear view mirrors) in order to check/service/replace the mode door actuator. What did you find that was holding the dashboard in place? Which bolts in particular are the pivot bolts? Thanks Jay

The pivot bolts are at the lower outside corners of the dash. If you remove all covers, you will clearly see them going into the frame. They are 13 or 14mm head size and go in exactly perpendicular to the vehicle. But above them on each sode are two bolts that must also be removed before the dash can be pivoted outward. Two on the left near the parking brake release and two on the right above the pivot bolts. Remove all plastic covers reveals them. Removing at least one of the front seats will go a LONG way toward making extraction of the removed dash a lot easier.

Many thanks for the help. I did some additional trim removal and found things exactly as you describe. The assembly still doesn't want to budge. I did find two bolts that secure the back of the passenger side airbag to the underlying a/c housing and that allowed some additional movement on that side. The drivers side is still secure. I've previously removed the four nuts that secure the steering column along with a plethora of screws along the top. I've been following the procedure as outlined in the alldata service documentation. I'll have to dig around...

If you remove the 5 or 6 bolts on top (a couple are hard to find), the 4 side bolts and the lower center support bolts, the 4 steering column bolts and undo the steering column clamp it WILL be loose. The heater and Evap housing is bolted to the firewall and not attached to the Instrument Panel except by wires. Make sure you disconnected the necessary junction block wires also. It eluded me too for about an hour.

Thanks mistypotato! I found the top bolts (6 of 'em). As for the steering column, are you referencing the four nuts that secure the column at the bottom via a rectangular plate, or the four bolts that have plastic 'flower petal' washers under the heads? The steering column comes out with the dash, correct?

Vehicle Car Auto part Engine Minivan

Good work! See? That wasn't so bad was it? Don't know about the part. Mine was ok. What happened to yours?

Auto part Gear Differential

Great pics and very useful information. I was lucky that my climate control system worked flawlessly. Have you considered just getting another unit from a junk yard? The dashes are already removed for you often times in junk yards. Of course, if you can find the problem all the better.

I just got my 2000 Voyager dash off and am unable to move the blend door my hand with the actuator off. Is this one that should move by finger strength? I also noticed that the blend door actuator and the mode door actuator are different in price and keyed electrical connector. Add $100 for the mode door or buy a blend door $28 and simply replace the cover. What I am in need of is the aligning of the mode door and blend door and actuators so that the system will pass the calibration tests and actually work. Is there a trick to this? Anybody?

I tried the $28 blend door actuator with the cover for the mode door actuator. It would not calibrate and kept spinning until the mode door ring cap spun off and was now useless. Get thee to a junkyard.

I HAVE A 2010 DODGE JOURNEY. MY QUESTION IS WHAT DOES IT DO WHEN THE GEARS SHIFT BY THEMSELVES, I ACCELERATE AND IT REVVS UP TO 3 THOUSAND RPM BUT ONLY GOES UP TO 40 KM PER HOUR. THE SCANNER SHOWS ERROR P0760. PLEASE HELP.

2010 dodge journey dash removal

So my question is why has there not been s9me recall on the dodge journey 2010 electrical issues. I've noticed I'm not the only one having the problem of the dodge just shutting down around 10 to 15 min into driving than doesn't start back up for a good hr if not longer just to run for a very short period again. This seems to be a big pro lem for alot of owners of this vehicle type. It's dangerous for the people in the cab including drivers around . With it just shutting off the way it does many things cam end up happening. I am a owner for a yr and I can say I've driven mabey 120 miles max and that's mainly when I drove it home the first time which I bought 112 miles away from home ended up taking me 12 hr to finally get to my door. It was a nightmare.

why the car won't stay running after a jump start? after I remove the clamps of the jump start it turns off immediately. Can you please help?

where is the fuse box for the windows?? my front driverside window wont go up or down

Why does my battery light go off and on?

Heater not functioning

What would be the cause of the heating system not working? The fan works with no heat.

I have a 2011 Journey that I need to replace the start/stop button. How do you remove the assembly from the dash.  Do you need to remove the  display screen to access the switch from behind?

No.  It just pulls straight out with a trim removal tool, or small screwdriver.  I replaced mine with a red one.  After all, I am driving a Crossroad SRT Hellcat!

Thank you, do I need to pry on the top and bottom or the sides? I tried a little bit but don't want to break the silver trim ring.

Came out very easy for me.  Maybe try one tool on each side.

how did you get it out... I was able to get the trim ring out but the button doesn't want to come out....

I removed the radio trim and radio then you can reach in behind and squeeze the holding prongs.

Dash Removal on my 2010

2010 dodge journey dash removal

  • Add to quote

I've been having some heating issues in my truck lately. I've narrowed the problem down to a plugged up heater core (internally). So this weekend I'm going to replace it. To do this though, the entire dash needs to come out to get at the air box. Bugger..... My truck has the full center console assembly. Does anyone know if this needs to be completely removed in order to get the dash out? I've youtubed about as much as I can youtube on it. I found one solid video (4 part video) on removing the dash (excellent video by the way), but the truck that was being worked on didn't have the center console. I couldn't find any other videos relating to the console removal. All help is appreciated. Thanks JJ

That is the way to get the top of the console out of the way You may be able to take shortcuts Remove the screws lift the little tab & move the shifter to the straight up position lift the cover just enough to move it out of the clips & move it back an inch Now you should be able to start with the radio bezel, there are several videos on how to do that I suggest that you pull the little plastic access panels off that would be close to where your right heel/ankle rests while driving, there is another one on the passenger side That may give you more clues to what is involved when you remove the radio bezel & your glove compartment doors, you can see a lot of your climate control system I do have a question, did you consider back flushing your heater core first video is unrealistic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AT9WAhJ6apE more likely occurrence https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcL_0TWeZJY

Ya, I had the truck over to my mechanic on Monday this week. He backflushed the heater core. When I picked up the truck Monday night, both of us sat in the truck and ran the heat. It seemed pretty good at the time. But over the last few days it seemed to be pushing less and less heat. This morning, being quite cool out (-2*C), it barely produced any heat at all. Good video by the way. Thanks for sharing.

Update: The job is done... mostly. The center console did have to come out to remove the dash. The console itself wasn't too bad to remove, but the console gear shifter was a pain because of the linkage. There are two bolts on the sides of the console near the rear down low. They were a bit fussy to get to, so I ended up removing the front seats. I probably could've gotten away with not removing them, but I'm glad I did. It gave me a ton more room to work and I was able to give the carpet a solid vacuuming and cleaning.

How did you manage to disconnect that damn shifter cable? I have absolutely no idea how to get it off!!!!

Center Console Removal Not sure if you had any luck since your post, but I'm about to attack this project. The overall goal is to remove the dash in order to change out the rear blend actuator. I did some research and was able to get this image (you'll have to zoom in) which will hopefully help with the console piece. Any past lessons learned would be appreciated.

I know the heater core can get clogged I also know that if you are going to pull out the dash, don't forget to check out the A/C Condenser, those things plug up bad Also if your Ram did not come with a Cabin Air Filter, install one, it will help to keep the A/C Condenser cleaner

Thanks. That's what I intend to reference for the dash; I just had to find something that showed how to take out the center console (with the shifter).

An automated people mover (APM) runs between this station and terminals A and B. The Aeroexpress departs every 30 minutes, travel time is 35 minutes.
