Our tribute to a true Industry Great Andy McKenna
Today we say goodbye to Andy Mckenna who passed away peacefully at his home in Greystones this week. I had the great privilege of working for Andy in Atlas Travel and American Holidays for a number of years before moving to mainstream tour operating with Falcon Holidays. Andy was a unique boss, mentor and friend. Diligent in everything he did and loyal to all who worked for him and those who were lucky to call themselves a trade partner. He never missed an opportunity to engage, share and ensure you were on your game in the fairest and most supportive fashion imaginable.
I continued to meet Andy regularly for personal and business catchups throughout my career and always took his guidance and advice up to when he took ill. Andy had the unique talent of uncanny foresight and timing in everything he did business wise. His knowledge of all sectors was unrivalled and evident in what he achieved in the USA and Ireland establishing brands that continue to flourish to this very day with Atlas Travel and American Holidays in Dublin and Belfast. Andy was also a very modest golfer in his day and told many a great story of how he travelled the USA taking many a dollar from unsuspecting challengers.
Andy will be missed but his legacy and success remain with all of us who had the great honour of working, trading and engaging with a true gentleman.
Andy will be deeply mourned, sadly missed and forever loved by his wife Patricia, children Frank, Trina, Eimer, Ciara, Stephen & Beth, all his grandchildren, his sister Mary, his sons-in-law Paul, Michael, Derek and John, daughters-in-law Sonya and Debbie, his nephews and nieces, extended family and friends.
Rest in peace Andy, you will never be forgotten.
Don Shearer.

Karen McCrink Director; Leisure Travel Services
Karen has been in the travel industry, and more specifically leisure services, since 1984. Karen’s affinity for travel is undeniable; she has abundant personal experiences traveling the world and is always keeping the memories as ideas for her clients. Some of her favorite vacation destinations are Tahiti for the jaw dropping beauty and Dubai for its “perpetual sun, endless white sand and turquoise seas, superb resorts and restaurants and a myriad of unexpected activities.” Karen has booked it all and finds satisfaction in getting creative and assuring each of her clients a personalized, unique and memorable trip. “I love to book cultural vacations because you can add the unique elements to an itinerary that a client might not have known was even an option. This could be a wine tasting in France, visiting an elephant sanctuary in Thailand, cooking classes in Italy, or a bungee jump off the bridge over the Zambezi River in Africa.” Whatever trip you are dreaming about taking, Karen will have ideas to make sure it becomes a dream come true!
Dianne Doucette Manager; Leisure Travel Services
Dianne has been an agent since 1981. She loves how this career allows her to truly connect with people and hear the experiences they have while traveling. She’s booked vacations that have left the clients with wild stories to tell. “I’ve arranged travel to Churchill, Canada for clients to see the Polar Bears up close and personal in specialized S.U.Vs. Did you know you can take a bath in Red Wine? I made that happen for a client in a winery spa in Argentina’s Wine Country. How about a picnic in the Lavender fields of Provence? An older gentleman asked me to arrange to bring his wife to recreate their favorite trip they’ve taken. They’ve all been amazing trips, but what stuck out to me the most was the feedback they gave me after – I was able to exceed all of their expectations!”
Tara Vaz Sr. Vacation Travel Specialist
Tara’s passion for travel and planning began when she was a young girl through her family’s annual vacations to Disney. She joined the travel industry after graduating college in 2012 with a focus on Travel and Tourism. Although her previous experiences at Disney led her to the travel industry, Tara now personally prefers beach vacations; her favorite being Tahiti where she stayed in a picturesque overwater bungalow watching fish freely swim and explore the clear water beneath her. Her most unique vacation booking was sending a couple on an African Safari to sleep out in the wilderness. “From a family vacation to Disney, an Alaska cruise for an extended family, a wedding on a beach in the Caribbean or a friends get-away to Las Vegas, my goal is to make it a memory of a lifetime.”
Lin Griffin Sr. Vacation Travel Specialist
Lin has been a cruise expert for over 10 years. Lin started her career in Human Resources but always had a passion for travel. She eventually left her job as an HR manager to start her career in travel. She has sailed on many of the major cruise lines and has been involved in marketing events both on ships and at travel show venues. Lin’s experience in luxury travel quickly established her as being one of the company’s top cruise agents. She has been a top seller of Oceania Cruises, Regent Seven Seas, Viking River and Ocean, Avalon Waterways, Azamara Club Cruises and Star Clippers, to name a few. Whether you’re interested in Luxury, Small Ship, River Cruises or Family/Contemporary cruising, Lin has the cruise experience and knowledge to help guide your decision. She has earned credentials through various training programs and is considered an expert by all cruise lines we represent. Lin has traveled all around the world and she will offer her travel tips and recommendations as you select which itinerary and ship you’d like for your next vacation.
Thecla Vis Sr. Vacation Travel Specialist
With over 32 years in the travel industry, it’s safe to say that Thecla Vis has seen it all! Thecla has been to numerous locations around the globe such as Peru, South Africa, Vietnam and Cambodia… just to name a few. Thecla is no stranger to adventure travel. She once “booked a couple traveling for an anniversary to Iceland and had them stay in a luxury heated tent on a glacier under the Northern Lights, fully catered by gourmet chefs.” Whether you want to hot-air balloon over the fairy tale chimneys of Cappadocia or hand glide off the cliffs of Oludeniz, Thecla can make this happen. Besides adventure travel, Thecla also specializes in European travel. Born and raised in her early years in France and Italy, she has also lived in Austria, England and Spain. She holds Europe very close to her heart. Her goal when booking a vacation? To provide her client with a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. “My whole family travels the world,” she says, “it’s in my blood!”

Our Story
In 2021, Andy Gordley started Atlas Travel and Study Abroad as a family business. He had been a missionary for over twenty years and during the pandemic saw an opportunity to merge his love for serving God with a sustainable overseas business that could support its own ministry ventures. Andy envisioned groups from colleges, high schools and churches coming down to Costa Rica to study as well as to grow spiritually. A few months into running the business, Andy realized that he also wanted to relaunch the GAP program. He had been the director of a GAP program in San Jose, Costa Rica for 10 years and loved it. He knew that the program made a huge impact in many lives. He enlisted the help of his previous partner, Jeff Hackett, and the two of them worked to open the GAP Year Program in the Fall of 2022.

SAS Celebrates 50 Years Flying from Dublin with Style
The cream of the Irish travel industry were out in force to join SAS at the airline’s 50th anniversary celebration lunch in The Greenhouse, one of Dublin’s Michelin-rated fine dining restaurants. The event was hosted in association with Dublin Airport.
The guests were welcomed by Alan Sparling, former Manager of SAS in Ireland, who is currently the GSA for the carrier.A unique fact is that in the 50 years of operations in Ireland, there have only been two managers,Hans Assa and Alan Sparling
It all began in 1966 when a young Hans Assa from Denmark arrived in Dublin to open the SAS office and organised the first flight, which was DUB-MAN-CPH, and he quickly built up a strong working relationship with the travel agents in Ireland. The first flight was operated by a SUD-SE 210 Caravelle III aircraft SO it was fitting that Hans and his wife Aileen were guests at the lunch.
Hans Dyhroft, General Manager Europe, who flew in specially to join the 50th anniversary celebrations, pointed out the carrier’s origins and its unique three-country ownership. He thanked all the agents for their loyalty and support down through the years.
SAS currently operates 24 flights a week to Scandinavia and it is estimated that the airline has carried some 4.5 million passengers on the Dublin routes over the past 50 years.
Aileen Assa paid a tribute to Hans, in that he has been a wonderful gentleman, as a husband, father and partner.
Chef Mickael Viljanen produced a fine four-course tasting menu of Gorolles Veloute to start followed by a Gravellax, with a main course of rack of lamb, while dessert was lingonberry with white chocolate.

Zelenograd and New Moscow are two large parts of Moscow city, that lie (often far) outside consolidated residential zone of the city, which lies within and just beyond the MKAD (Moscow Ring Road).
Zelenograd was added in Moscow in 1968 as one of the leading scientific centers. New Moscow was added to Moscow in 2012, forming Novomoskovky and Troitskiy Administrativniy Okrugs with plans of new vast expansion. New Moscow territory is yet to change according to its new city status. Even though suburbial kind construction intensifies in Novomoskovsky Administrativniy Okrug, Troitskiy Administrativniy Okrug still mostly has a rural feel.

By plane [ edit ]
Vnukovo and Ostafyevo airports are situated in New Moscow proper, though from Ostafyevo airport you still have to go through the "old" Moscow. It is possible to get from Sheremetyevo to Zelenograd without going to the old city - you have to change to 400 minibus on Leningrad highway or on local train on Planernaya. From Domodedovo airport you'll have to go through the old city anyway (the route through Domodedovo and Podolsk will take more time).
By train [ edit ]
Local trains connect Zelenograd with Leningrad Train Station, Tver, Klin and Konakovo. Local trains from Kiev Train Station pass through northern part of New Moscow between Novoperedelkino and Krekshino. To go to Zosimova Pustyn you may want to go all the way to Bekasovo, but trains there are infrequent. It is possible to get to New Moscow through Podolsk, but you'll have to change to bus there.
By bus [ edit ]
Most frequent bus to Zelenograd is bus 400 from Rechnoi Vokzal. It has special pricing. Buses are primary way of public transport to get to New Moscow, new buses are often added. Most buses start from Yugo-Zapadnaya and Tepliy Stan metroes, and Podolsk train station. Troitsk serves as a bus hub.
By car [ edit ]
Zelenograd is accessible by M10 highway. Major highways in New Moscow are M3, A101, Warsaw highway Podolsk - Kresty (joining with A101), first "Beton Ring" A107 and Borovsk highway Peredelkino - Vnukovo - to join with M3. M10 and A101 are often highly congested, M3 may be less prone to it, except Moscow vicinity, and crossing with A107, A107 is congested near M3 crossing, which is northwest of New Moscow; Warsaw highway is congested in Podolsk, and you'll have to pass congested M2 to get there from MKAD.
