The Complete Baby Travel Checklist

Making it out the door with your little one can often feel like a mission in itself. In between packing their changing bag , remembering baby bottles and ensuring that their car seat and pushchair are ready to go, you’re exhausted before the day has even begun.

Luckily, we’ve created a complete baby travel checklist to make adventures with your child a breeze. Whether you’re off on a short trip or a weekend away, our guide will ensure that you’re prepped with all the essential baby travel equipment.

Everyday Baby Travel Essentials

From exploring the local park to nipping to the shops and visiting friends, even the smallest journeys with your baby can mean a bag full of gear. To stay on top of your everyday packing list, check out the below items:

1. Changing Bag Must-Haves

The most important item when you’re out and about with your little one is your changing bag . Keeping all of your child’s necessities in one place, a well-stocked changing bag can save the day. As well as choosing a changing bag with a fun design, key features to look out for include a detachable changing mat and washable fabric. Styles with multiple pockets will also allow you to quickly find all the items suggested below:

Green Cosatto into the wild changing bag

Don’t let a surprise nappy emergency ruin your plans. Make sure your child stays clean and comfortable by packing extra nappies. We recommend at least one spare nappy for each hour you’re out – you can never be too prepared!

Crucial to a fuss-free changing experience, wipes are also handy for giving sticky fingers and surfaces a swift clean.

Baby Bottles

If your baby isn’t hungry yet, they’ll soon be! Whether you opt for formula or expressed breast milk, baby bottles will let you feed your child as and when they’re hungry. For trips further afield, remember a breast pump for your comfort as well as theirs.

2. A Walk In The Park

It can be difficult to know where to begin when it comes to selecting a pushchair or stroller . With so many different designs available, choosing the right one can feel like anything but a walk in the park.

Even so, since you’ll be using them on a day-to-day basis, spending some time doing your research will benefit both you and your child long term.

As well as reversible seats and storage space, another useful feature is adjustable handles. Helping to make your journeys more comfortable, adjustable handles also mean that people of different heights can navigate the pram easily.

Don’t forget to look out for styles with padding to keep your baby supported and snug on the go.

3. A Weekend Away

Planning your first weekend away with your child is an exciting and nerve-racking experience. Thankfully, we’re here to help your trip run without a glitch.

The Right Car Seat

As with all travel essentials, safety should be your top priority. For this reason, choosing a good-quality car seat is a must. While there are countless models to choose between, babies under 15 months should travel in a rear-facing car seat for protection. You can also select a style that doubles up as a carrier to make travelling to and from the car stress-free.

Cute Clothing

As careful as you might be to keep your baby’s clothing clean, items don’t stay looking fresh for long. Even multiple muslin squares can’t prevent the occasional food spillage! With this in mind, you’re going to need to pack several outfits for each day. Alongside unisex baby clothing like bodysuits and all in ones , why not prepare an adorable outfit for them to wear? From matching leggings and dresses to sweet dungarees , make sure you pick a style that’s functional as well as fashionable.

White 'Born in 2020' star print sleepsuit

Sweet Dreams

Adjusting your child to a sleeping routine can be challenging at the best of times. Unfortunately, this becomes even harder when you’re away from home. Since sleeping arrangements can vary from accommodation to accommodation, it’s best to bring along your own travel cot . Thankfully, there are plenty of lightweight designs to choose from, meaning that it doesn’t have to take up precious packing space.

Giving you peace of mind, a travel cot will maximise sweet dreams for both you and your little one.

ASDA Little Angels 5 Microwave Sterilising Bags review

ASDA Little Angels 5 Microwave Sterilising Bags

Just like full-sized sterilisers , ASDA Little Angels Microwave Sterilising Bags are a quick and convenient way to sterilise bottles, teats, soothers, and other microwave steriliser-safe accessories. Each microwave sterilising bag can be used up to 20 times and kills up to 99.9% of pesky germs. The only difference is that these sterilising bags take up a fraction of the space making them perfect for when you're at home or on your travels!

How did this product make your life easier?

Lisa: This product sterilises quicker than my conventional electric steam steriliser so I can use it at home for small items or when in a hurry which is a great help for a busy mum. It’s small, foldable and easy to store so doesn’t take up room on the work surface which is great when there’s already so many baby-related devices taking up room!

Clare: The Little Angel Sterilising Bag is fantastic, a brilliant thought out product that makes my life a lot easier, particularly when you only have dummies to sterilise throughout the day. The instructions are clear and they are quick and handy to use. I love the fact that these sterilising bags are convenient to take with you, I keep one in my changing bag and it is useful when out and about and even at grandparent’s houses when it is not suitable to take a sterilising unit. The tick boxes were a great addition as it was difficult to remember how many times the bag had been used, definitely a product that I will continue to purchase.

Nicola: I think these microwave sterilising bags are really good for when you're on the go. If you're travelling, they don't take up much room at all, and you can probably find a microwave to use in most places - even service stations these days tend to have them. So they're great for an 'emergency' situation when travelling.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Lisa:  They're small, lightweight, and the product that can be used when out and about as well as at home. They're particularly ideal for days out and holidays when you don’t want to take a big bulky steriliser. They're extremely easy to use with full instructions printed on the product to remind you every time you use it. Compact and foldable too, which means it fits very easily into a changing bag without taking up much room.

Clare: When I received this product for testing I was exciting to get using it because of the convenience factor. There are always items to sterilise and this makes it so handy particularly for dummies - it is the perfect product at home or when away travelling. I will certainly be purchasing these again and recommending them to other mummies.

Nicola: I'd recommend these microwave sterilising bags to any parent to keep in their change bag, and maybe to keep a few in the car or at a grandparent's house for example. They are small and compact and can be stored anywhere. They can be reused up to 20 times which is handy, and they take a maximum of 5 minutes. They're easy to use and all the instructions are written on each bag too which is great as I threw the box for mine away!

Would you choose this product to win?

Lisa: The main plus of this amazing product is that it’s made by a major supermarket retailer, a brand I can trust and the convenience of being able to pick them up with your weekly shop is a big bonus too. As a busy, time-strapped mum of two under two, I don’t have the time or energy to spend visiting different shops. It’s even available to order with your online shop which is even easier!

Clare: I think this product should win as the instructions on how to use are clearly laid out on the box and then repeated again on the back of each bag step by step, making it very easy to follow. The sterilising bags are so convenient not just at home but also when traveling. Also, the packaging is very eye-catching. I love that I can just slip one of these bags into my changing bag and it can be used up to twenty times and with the tick boxes on the front, it makes it very easy to keep track of the bag usage. Overall, a fantastic and useful product.

Nicola: I don't think I would choose microwave sterilising bags over other sterilisers. I think these bags are a great additional steriliser for on the go and to keep in your change bag for travelling.

What changes would you make to this product?

Lisa: The box the product came in is widely recyclable which is great, but the product itself isn’t. Being that, it is a convenient product and needs disposing of after twenty uses, it would be nice to know that it can be recycled and won’t be sitting in landfill for thousands of years. I would chose the environment over convenience every time, regardless of the product or price.

Clare: This product is great the way it is and I have no changes or adaptions to improve the sterilising bags. The instructions are simple and easy to follow and the tick box on the front allows you to keep track of how many times the bag has been used. It is also priced competitively. Overall, it is a fabulous and extremely useful product for any parent and I defiantly rate these microwave sterilising bags very highly and will continue to purchase.

Nicola: I didn't quite seal the bag properly the first time, and as I was carrying it to the microwave, water leaked out. You have to press really hard on the seal. User error, but just something to watch out for! They also don't hold very much. I have one bottle and a formula powder pot in a bag and that fills it up pretty much (it's a 7oz bottle). I think they could do with being a little larger.

Asda’s loyalty scheme is changing — here’s what you need to know

Fan of Asda ’s popular reward scheme? Well, the supermarket is making a significant change to the system.

The chain has confirmed that Blue Light card holders who shop in Asda  will now receive less in their rewards cash pot.

The Blue Light Card offers exclusive discounts to thousands of emergency workers in retailers like Asda.

However, as of April 25, Asda has confirmed that Blue Light Card holders will now receive a 5% discount instead of the previous 10% on fresh food items, including meat, fish, fruits, vegetables, fresh fruit juices, smoothies, dairy, and bakery products.

This 5% discount will be reflected in the cardholders’ Asda rewards cash pot as usual.

Since the news broke, shoppers have expressed their frustration on Facebook upon learning about this change.

A shopper carries her purchases at an Asda store in Leyton,

‘Back to Tesco Clubcard. Absolutely appalling 5%,’ wrote John Rushton-Gundy.

‘This is a real shame,’ added Alexis Drayson.

While Paul Michael said: ‘Time to look at doing all of my shopping in Aldi again.’

In contrast to this reaction, there were also shoppers who argued that they appreciated what the scheme was providing, no matter the size of the discount.

‘We need to remember Asda don’t have to give us anything. I really appreciate that just by scanning my phone each time I go, I get something in return,’ stated Diana Jones.

Asda is the only major supermarket in the UK that currently offers Blue Light Card holders these benefits.

And despite the adjustment in discounts, Blue Light Card holders will still enjoy access to exclusive Asda Rewards offers. These are now beginning with a competition where cardholders have the opportunity to win up to £100 in their Cashpots every day they spend £5 or more until May 27, 2024.

Who is eligible to get the Blue Light Discount?

Only those in certain emergency service or key worker roles can apply for a Blue Light Discount.

Here is the full list of eligible jobs:

  • Ambulance service
  • Blood bikes
  • Fire service
  • Highways traffic officers
  • HM armed forces
  • HM armed forces veteran
  • HM coastguard
  • HM prison and probation service
  • Home Office (Borders and Immigration)
  • Independent lifeboats
  • MoD civil servant
  • MoD fire service
  • NHS Dental Practice
  • Reserved army forces
  • Search and rescue
  • Social care
  • St Andrews ambulance
  • St John ambulance

To be eligible for a card you have to prove your profession by uploading a form of valid ID or recent payslip.

To sign up, just head to the Blue Light Card website where you’ll have to fill out a form.

What is Asda’s loyalty scheme?

To enroll in Asda’s loyalty program, you’ll first need to download the Asda Rewards app, available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play store.

Once downloaded, creating an account is straightforward if you don’t already have one. All you have to do is simply provide your name and other necessary details to get started.

Then, it’s time to start building up your Asda Rewards Cashpot. You earn Asda Pounds, both in-store and online, by buying certain products highlighted in the ‘star products’ section of the app, these are a selection of both branded and Asda own-brand items that can earn you extra rewards.

There are also ‘super star’ deals where you can earn bigger cash rewards.

To redeem your Asda Rewards, you need to convert your Asda Pounds into money off vouchers, which can be redeemed at the till or online when you pay.

At the checkout, simply scan the app’s barcode to accumulate rewards. For online purchases, ensure you’re logged into your account and shop as usual.

You need to convert your Asda Pounds within six months, or they expire.

22 Top California Packing List Items for 2024 + What NOT to Bring

California sunset

Hi all, my name is Lyric Fergusson, and California is my home state! LA is where I was born, and where I spent a good part of my twenties. My husband Asher and I were also married in the beautiful Ojai Mountains. California is known for its epic and wide variety of landscapes. You’ll have the option to explore everything from desert to beaches, cities to mountains!

Check out our  California packing list , and tailor it to your specific needs! You’ll also find tips for what NOT to pack, and  what to wear  in California.

What to Pack for California – 22 Essentials

1. quick-dry travel towel.

A microfiber towel is one of the most useful things you can bring with you to California. With all the time you’ll be spending outdoors, by the ocean, and exploring in general, you’ll find so many different ways to use a towel like this. They’re great for drying off, wiping off sweat, and sitting on whether you’re by the beach or in the mountains. Microfiber towels dry super fast, are small and easy to pack, and repel odors, dirt, and sand.

2. Stylish Flats

No matter which part of California you’re visiting, you’ll be doing a lot of walking. Make sure to bring a super comfortable pair of flats that you can spend all day in without your feet killing you. I personally own and love these shoes – I wear them everywhere and I get a ton of compliments on them. They’re the most comfortable flats I’ve ever owned, and they spice up any outfit.

3. Packing Cubes

One of the tougher things about packing for California is that it has such varying climates depending on where you’re going, and depending on the season. You’ll want to pack plenty of layers, but you won’t want them to take up a huge portion of your suitcase. Enter: packing cubes. These multi-sized zippable pouches keep me organized, and compress my items into manageable sizes and shapes. They make packing much easier, and I always know where everything is.

Available on HeroTravelSupply.com with an exclusive 15% discount using the coupon code  “HERO” .

4. Lipstick-Sized Charger

Navigating California can be a bit intimidating and there is nothing worse than walking around Melrose with a dead cell phone and no idea how to get back to your car! This little beauty holds multiple charges for my devices, is as tiny as a tube of lipstick, and uses standard USB cables to power up my items easily and quickly, even while tucked safely away in my daybag! I love it, and don’t travel without it.

Lipstick-Sized Charger

5. Cooling Towel

One of the nicest things about California is the sunshine, but it can get hot and uncomfortable too. Whether you are lounging by the beach or hiking out in nature, I would suggest bringing a cooling towel along. They’re small and lightweight so they easily fit in a purse or backpack. The cooling towel is chemical free. All you need to activate its cooling properties is to get it wet, wring it out, and it instantly becomes 20-30 degrees cooler than the outside temperature.

6. Gorgeous Outfit

LA fashion is like the lovechild between Miami and NYC, and San Francisco is it’s slightly more conservative cousin. For going out in the evening, this dress works great in both Northern and Southern CA venues. I personally own this dress and adore it – it’s perfect for dinner and dancing or going to a club, and can easily be worn off-the-shoulder or over the shoulders. It’s universally flattering (check out the Amazon pictures), and comes in quite a few cute colors.

Gorgeous Outfit

7. Neck Wallet

When you’re traveling it’s always useful to have a neck wallet even if you’re going some place where pick-pocketing isn’t a big concern. It’s easy to misplace things when you’re on the go. I like to use a neck wallet no matter the destination to keep my ID or passport, cash, bank cards, and phone together in one safe place. You’ll be less likely to misplace things when they all have a designated space in this zippered neck wallet.

8. Virtual Private Network (VPN)

You’ll want to take advantage of all of the free WiFi you can so that you don’t have to worry about data and roaming charges. However, did you know that using public Wifi is actually very risky to your personal and financial information? Hackers often “haunt” free connections to attempt to steal this kind of data from unprotected individuals. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is an incredibly easy and affordable way to protect your information. With a touch of a button on your device, a VPN like NordVPN adds an extra layer of encryption to shield your data from hackers, thereby keeping your identity and financial info safe.

My husband had his credit card information stolen while using WiFi in Paris, and now we both use it everywhere we go – foreign or domestic! It’s also very handy when we’re in countries that block certain parts of the internet, as the VPN allows us to access those areas without the country-specific restrictions.

9. Universal Waterproof Phone Case

California beaches are fantastic and you wont want to miss a few days soaking up the sun. This super affordable waterproof cell phone case is perfect to bring because it will save your phone from the water and sand, but the touch screen still works well so you can use your phone normally. ALSO please don’t forget if you are heading to theme parks like Disneyland, Universal Studios, Six Flags etc. there are many rides where you will get WET. And you will want to keep your devices safe and dry. This waterproof case is hands down the best solution.

Waterproof Phone Case

10. Waterproof Camera

This is really an ideal camera for the beach, plus any activity where you’ll be getting wet but still want quality pictures and video. We use ours during water sports, and can even use it to get great underwater video with sound!

Waterproof Camera

11. Cross-Body Bag

A purse like this one is great to have along in case you are making a quick stop at a cafe, or doing some light shopping. It’s big enough for your wallet and cell, but not too big to lug around if you don’t need to bring too much. Man bags, too, are actually pretty popular in California, just because of the connivence, and I love this one by Zicac.

Cross-Body Bag

12. Swimsuit Cover-Up

Swimsuit cover-ups are an easy, fashionable way to avoid having to wear a soggy towel around while you dry off or hang by the pool. Another thing to think about is that California beach towns are really casual so you could totally slip this on over your swimsuit and go out to lunch without changing. I love mine – it retains its shape even when wet, it’s very flattering, and is super cute.

Swimsuit Cover-Up

13. Daypack

In Californion cities such as LA or San Fran you will be driving a decent amount, and often it’s incredibly difficult to find parking. Once you find a spot you wont want to move your car, and you won’t want to keep going back to it for things like water, snacks, your camera, your sunscreen, etc. A stylish daybag like this one is a great way to keep everything on hand. If you’re doing more active rigorous activities, you may also like this  Venture Pal  daypack which folds into a tiny pouch.

Daypack

14. Facial Spray

Your skin might go haywire while you’re traveling. Between putting your skin through hours in recycled airplane air to smoggy LA sidewalks, your face is going to need some extra care. This moisturizing spray will spruce you up and keep your skin glowing and healthy.

Facial Spray

15. Windproof Travel Umbrella

If you plan on visiting certain cities in California that usually get a bit of rain like San Francisco, it’s a good idea to bring a travel umbrella along just in case you encounter a rainy day or two. I’m a big fan of this umbrella because not only is it compact and easy to travel with, but it’s also really well-made so it’ll last you a long time.

Hero Umbrella

16. RFID-blocking Wallet

It’s a big of a sad truth… but from growing up in LA I know how important it is to be street-smart. Scams happen, theft happens, and the best way to avoid them is to be prepared. An RFID-blocking wallet is a great way to protect your personal and financial information, I would be sure to use it if you are going clubbing or in a touristy area where theft is most likely to happen.

17. Hanging Toiletry Bag

We love our hanging toiletry bags. And this one can only be described as “SEXY.” I don’t think I’ve ever had a love affair with a toiletry bag until I met this one. It makes it so easy to quickly find what you’re looking for without having to rummage through a disorganized bag or case. We also found that it holds on to our toiletry items so they don’t fall, roll around, and get lost when we’re in our accommodations. It’s great for both men and women.

18. Flexible Tripod

A tripod is surprisingly handy, and can make taking pictures of yourself and your whole family much easier. I like that this flexible tripod allows me to mount my camera onto almost any surface for just the right photo distance and angle!

Flexible Tripod

19. Filtered Water Bottle

In California – especially in touristy places – they really overcharge for water. I strongly recommend against drinking California tap water – it’s  horrible . To avoid being charged $5 for a tiny bottle of Evian I always bring this filtered water bottle by Brita. I refill it at drinking fountains, and with it I’m confident that the water I’m drinking is safer and tastier.

20. Dry Bag

A dry bag is an essential item that I always bring with me when going to a beach or anywhere there’s even a small chance my belongings will get wet. Hiking, surfing, paddleboarding, riding rides at theme parks, and other activities all expose personal items to water. A dry bag seals them all away from harm, and can either be carried on its own via the strap or tucked into my daybag.

21. Travel Insurance for California

Petty theft is a problem anywhere, but California does have a few patches where it’s worse than most. There’s also a risk of canceled reservations, lost luggage, or other issues whenever you travel. Travel insurance is always a good idea – experienced travelers don’t travel without it. We like to use TravelInsurance.com because we can compare plans from the top companies to find the one that best fits us and our travel plans.

22. Universal Travel Adapter

If you’re visiting California from outside of North America then you’ll most likely need a travel adapter. Getting a universal adapter is the best option because you can use it just about anywhere in the world instead of having to buy separate ones for each country.

What to Wear in California

The trends in California lean toward laid back and casual. Make sure to bring extra underwear and socks. During the warmer months, pack sundresses, shorts or and short-sleeve shirts. During the cooler months, bring pants, long-sleeve shirts, a sweater, and a jacket. Pack clothing of neutral color palettes that can be mixed and matched with other pieces.

What NOT to Take to California

1. flammables, 2. firearms, 3. sharp objects, 4. liquids (unless you follow the liquids rule), 5. household tools, 6. camping equipment, 7. medical tools, 8. various miscellaneous items, faqs about traveling in california:, 1. what’s the best time of year to go to california.

If hitting the beach is part of your vacation plans then May through October is your best bet, as those months are best for mild but warm temperatures. For downhill skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing, the months of December, January, and February are the best due to their cooler temps.

2. How can I protect myself against the sun in California?

Bring your sun gear. Pack sunscreen with a high SPF, a pair of sunglasses with ultraviolet protection, and a cap or sunhat. Sun protection is necessary in California throughout the whole year!

3. How can I capture all my California Trip memories?

Bring a camera or video camera with an extra battery to capture the special moments of your trip. If your batteries are rechargeable, make sure you bring the charger!

4. I want to go on a California road trip. How do I decide my destinations?

Any of the National Parks are a great option for helping guide a road trip itinerary.

Another fun option is to go from southern Cali to northern Cali, or vice versa!

5. Why take a road trip to California instead of flying?

Getting there is half the fun. If you’re traveling with a companion, you’ll get to know your co-pilot in a new way with all of the long on-the-road conversations and bonding over new sights. If you’re traveling solo, you’ll likely learn a lot about yourself and have plenty of time to jam to your favorite playlists en route. At any rate, you’ll see areas of California and its hidden gems that you would never see through a plane window.

6. What are some must-see attractions in California?

Lake Tahoe and  San Francisco  are great, as they are places that have a lot of top attractions in them already. Lake Tahoe is even a lot of fun during the winter season, and boasts some great snow activities! San Francisco is glorious in the spring and summer but is also still fun to see in the winter when the crowds are lighter.

The  Redwood Forest  is a sight to see, and will leave you in awe of nature’s beauty. Another fun attraction is Tijuana in Mexico, just south of the border near  San Diego . It can be a bit dicey off the beaten tourist path but is certainly a fun and exciting experience if you take basic precautions.

Amusement and theme parks like Sea World, Disneyland, and Legoland are certainly winners for family activities! They can be more on the spendy side, though, so be sure to budget accordingly.

7. Is California dog-friendly?

The short answer is, yes! With 5,644 dog trails and countless pet-friendly hotels and restaurants for you and your pooch to explore, it’s hard to deny that the Golden State is an amazing place to bring a dog. When exploring California’s beaches, lakes, forests, deserts, and mountains with your four-legged friend, know that accidents can and do happen. As a responsible pet owner, we believe it’s always a great idea to carry pet insurance for California . Emergency vet bills can quickly add up and it’s more affordable than you might expect.

8. What’s the best way to get around in California?

Many people rent cars, and they’re probably the most efficient way to see as many attractions as possible. Parking is a bit of a chore, but luckily once you’ve parked you can typically walk many places from your parking spot. Public transportation is available in some cities but is sometimes hard to navigate or not as tourist-friendly.

If you’re staying in a smaller place or won’t be venturing far from your accommodations, some cities and towns offer scooters or bike rentals!

9. How can I find accommodations in California on a budget?

Homesharing sites can be a good option for lower-cost accommodations, and hostels are pretty widely available in places like San Francisco and LA.

10. Is California an expensive place to travel?

It can be, but it doesn’t have to be extravagant. One of the surest ways to spend a lot of money is to pay for activities you could do for free, so instead of taking paid tours or doing expensive activities, try to find self-guided tours, free attractions, and cheap or free activities. There are many! Hike in a national park, take a picnic lunch to a park near the Golden Gate Bridge, drive around wine country or find a free wine tasting, hang out on one of CA’s many beaches… the list goes on and on.

Another way to make your trip less expensive is to walk or ride bicycles when possible instead of driving. If you can avoid renting a car altogether, so much the better! Public transit in California is pretty easy to use and could save you money.

Dining out and alcohol consumption certainly takes a chunk out of your spending money, so limiting these activities is a good way to save. If you have access to a kitchen, try picking up fresh local foods to cook for some meals!

Asda has today introduced changes to its Rewards scheme, reducing the extra amount qualifying customers could earn.

Previously, members who had verified their Blue Light Card within the app could get an extra 10 per cent back in their Cashpot on selected products.

As of 8 am this morning, these shoppers will now get five per cent back instead.

The limit of earning up to £100 extra per day still applies.

An Asda spokesperson said: “Asda has worked with Blue Light Card since 2022 and we have saved Blue Light workers millions on their shopping in that time.

"We’re now introducing new and exclusive ways for cardholders to boost their Asda Rewards Cashpots, as well as offering five per cent back in Cashpots on fresh food purchases.”

Asda is the only major UK supermarket to offer Blue Light Card holders an extra reward in its loyalty scheme.

The retailer said that from today, Blue Light Card holders will be able to access exclusive Asda Rewards propositions.

This starts with a competition where they can win up to £100 in their Cashpots each day they shop and spend £5 until May 27.

Millions of Asda customers can earn money in their Asda Rewards Cashpot by scanning their barcode when they shop in-store or complete an online order.

Asda Money Credit Card users can get extra Pounds on their Asda shopping.

Shoppers can also earn Asda Pounds by completing "Missions" with their shopping or get more money back on "Star Products".

Once earned, members have six months to convert the Asda Pounds into vouchers to spend them in-store or online.

The voucher can be from £1 to £100.

Customers then have 90 days to spend their voucher either in-store or online.

To get the extra Blue Light Card boost, the card must be linked to the Asda Rewards app.

Customers must download the Asda Rewards app to add their Blue Light Card

First, customers must download the Asda Rewards app, and once signed in, select the More tab, then Memberships.

In Memberships, the user must choose the Blue Light Card and fill in the information, such as the Blue Light Card number and surname.

The app will then verify the information and display a confirmation screen.

Asda profits up 24% to £1.1bn in 2023

Even though Asda has been losing market share, it attributed its profit growth to its loyalty programme.

Profits at the UK's third-biggest supermarket chain grew 24% in 2023, topping more than £1bn in a year where households struggled with the cost of living.

Asda said its bottom line was boosted by growing supermarket sales, with 5.4% growth - excluding fuel and the effect of new Asda shops opening.

Pre-tax profit reached £1.1bn over 2023, up 24% compared to 2022.

The value of those total sales, also leaving out fuel, hit nearly £22bn during the year.

Why are profits up?

It's thanks to roughly six million customers who now use the Asda loyalty app, the chain said.

Around half of all sales are linked to the Asda reward programme, which the firm said was a "key revenue driver".

Asda's clothing section, George, was already the UK's biggest retailer for kids, but sales increased by 3.4% over the year, valued at £1.5bn.

Sales growth, however, was slower than it had been a year ago.

Price rises - driven by high inflation - helped Asda sales, its chief financial officer Michael Gleeson said.

Asda had "tried very hard to protect customers from the worst impacts" of inflation, Mr Gleeson said, and pledged to match the prices of hundreds of items sold at discount rivals Aldi and Lidl.

Despite those efforts and growing sales, Asda still lost ground to its competitors.

Its market share fell behind rivals Sainsbury's and Tesco to 13.6%, according to industry analysts Kantar, as it faced tough competition from the likes of Aldi and Lidl.

What's been happening at Asda?

Mr Gleeson said competitors Tesco and Sainsbury's "managed to insulate themselves a little bit" against discount retailers by growing out their convenience shops.

It's something Asda has been working on, he said, adding: "I think that was clearly a gap that we needed to address and that's what we've been doing over the last 18 months, and we now have just short of 500 convenience stores".

Asda has bought petrol forecourts from EG Group and Co-op over the past few years , allowing it to expand into convenience stores.

Brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa joined forces with private equity group TDR Capital to buy Asda three years ago.

They own 45% of the company, while US grocery giant Walmart controls 10% and the remainder is owned by TDR.

Asda as a result faced interest payments of at least £30m from February as loans taken on by the billionaire brothers to fund their £6.8bn purchase of the supermarket became due.

They bought Asda from Walmart with a high amount of borrowed money - a takeover that drew scrutiny from MPs and unions.

COMPLETE GUIDE TO LAGUNA BEACH, CALIFORNIA

Laguna Beach is a small coastal town located in Orange County, south of Los Angeles, famous for its beaches, hiking trails, cycling trails, and picturesque bays.

This bohemian chic town has unique art galleries, cool art walks, and murals, and a popular annual summer arts festival. During your time in Laguna Beach, you can wander the pretty coastline trails, shop at the many great boutiques, and enjoy brunch or cocktails on the waterfront with incredible ocean views.

To help you make the most of your visit to this beautiful destination, we have created this ultimate guide to Laguna Beach sharing the best places to stay, where to eat and drink, and the top activities in and around the city!

Top 10 Things To Do In Laguna Beach

There are plenty of things to do in Laguna Beach and each time you visit you will find something new to do. But with so many options, where should you begin? Here are our top 10 things to do in Laguna Beach that we recommend for first-time visitors to the city.

1) Explore Crystal Cove State Park

With tidal pools, three miles of sandy coastline, great surf, hills, canyons, and ridges, this state park is a great place to spend the day exploring. There are also hiking trails and biking trails great for those who want to get outdoors and enjoy nature.

2) Hike Or Walk To Crescent Bay Point Park

Located at the western end of the city, the park offers incredible views of the coastline, along with hiking and walking trails.

3) Visit Victoria Beach

Known for its white sandy beach Victoria Beach has clear waters and the famous Victorian Tower (pictured). The beach is beautiful, but the Victorian Tower and the man made pool are the main attraction here!

To get to the entrance to this beach travel on PCH, then go down Victoria Drive to where the street intersects with Sunset Terrace. Here, on the right, you will find the stairway that leads to Victoria Beach between two houses.

4) Relax On Main Beach

Main Beach is one of the most iconic sights you will see when you search for images of Laguna Beach. The beach has a lifeguard hut and is a great place to relax, swim in the ocean, bodyboard, or play basketball or volleyball. It is located in the center of Laguna Beach, close to all the shops and restaurants.

Grab something to eat at popular Urth Caffe or Le Macaron French Pastries and picnic at the beach!

5) Visit the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park

With over 7,000 acres of wilderness, Laguna Coast Wilderness Park has over 40 miles of hiking trails, equestrian trails and biking trails, while also being a great place to spot wildlife and ecosystems. Note that dogs are not permitted in park.

6) Spend The Morning Shopping At Boutique Stores

With over 100 unique boutique stores, art galleries, and surf shops, Laguna is a great place to shop locally and purchase some souvenirs from your trip. You will find lots of stores on Laguna Canyon Road, as well as the main N Coast Highway. After you have had your fill of shopping stop at Laguna Canyon Winery for an afternoon of wine tasting.

7) Pageant Of The Masters

Time your trip to Laguna Beach with the annual Pageant Of The Masters , a unique art festival that happens once a year. The Pageant of The Masters itself is one of the most unique productions in the world, where people re-creates famous works of art on a stage at night. You will marvel at what you think is an enormous painting, but is in fact made up of people.

Make sure to arrive well before the show starts so that you can explore the art show and buy art from local artists beforehand. And don’t forget to bring along a cooler with some snacks, cheese and wine to enjoy through the evening.

8) Take A Walk Through The Arts District

Laguna Beach is well known as a hub for art galleries and artists alike.  The Arts District runs from Jasmine Street to Bluebird Canyon Street along the North Coast Highway. The arts district holds an Art Walk the first Thursday of every month, with live music, live art demos, and complimentary bites to eat and drink. If you visit at another time of the month, no worries, it is easy to take a self guided walk through this area.

9) Spend The Afternoon At The Laguna Canyon Winery

Try wine tasting or purchase a great bottle of wine at the Laguna Canyon Winery . The winery has its grapes shipped from Napa Valley which are then processed at the winery. Here you can learn all about the wines and how the grapes are processed.

10) Hike The 3.3 Miles Laurel Canyon Loop

Located within the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park , this 3.3-mile hike begins in the Willow Staging Area and along the way, you will see incredible views of the ocean and surrounding landscapes.

Where To Stay In Laguna Beach

My favorite hotels in Laguna Beach are the Montage Laguna Beach and Surf and Sand Resort .

The Montage hotel covers 30 acres, with a large resort-style outdoor space, complete with a beach, day beds, a 20,000 square foot spa, and two amazing swimming pools. The resort hotel has 258 rooms with a mixture of suites, bungalows, water view rooms, accessible rooms, all in various configurations.

The resort also has tours, two restaurants including the American-infused The Loft restaurant . If you don’t choose to stay at the hotel you can head to The Loft with panoramic views.

The Surf and Sand Resort is located on 500 feet of California’s most pristine beach and rooms overlook the ocean. The rooms in the hotel all offer coastal chic interiors with excellent views, so you may never want to leave your room! But if you do you can visit the award-winning spa or dine at one of the hotels’ restaurants, including Splashes restaurant that serves fresh seaside cuisine throughout the day.
