Itinerary Suggestions

  • How to Travel between China and Bali

Visa Requirements

How long to spend in china and bali.

A trip combining both China and Bali would typically require 2–3 weeks. Given China's vastness and diverse travel offerings, you could spend 1–2 weeks exploring the highlights of the country.

One week in China gives you time to see the must-see cities of Beijing, Xi'an, and Shanghai and learn about China's traditions and modernity, covering the most renowned Chinese landmarks that you are probably familiar with.

You could spend another week exploring one or two other China destinations according to your interests, such as Chengdu for pandas or Guilin or Zhangjiajie for nature.

Bali, on the other hand, generally takes about 1 week to take in its key attractions and enjoy some relaxing beach time. We recommend including the southern beach area and the central region, which boasts waterfalls, ethnic villages, and the culture-filled town of Ubud. If your goal is simply to have some beach time, a 3–4-day stay would be ample.

We offer two itinerary ideas for you to consider: one is a comprehensive 3-week journey and the other is a more basic 2-week itinerary.

1. 3-Week China and Bali Itinerary

In Beijing, explore the less-crowded Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. If you have something special to celebrate, we would specially prepare a Great Wall picnic for you with wine, cakes, etc.

To help you learn more about the history of the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368–1912) when visiting the Forbidden City, your local guide would take you to some hidden halls to unlock secrets of China's royal family .

In Xi'an, we would arrange a special handicraft experience when visiting the Terracotta Army: you could make your own mini terracotta warrior as a souvenir . During the process, you would learn more about the making and preservation of the Terracotta Warriors.

In Bali, to experience the essence of the local culture, visit Uluwatu Temple and witness a traditional Kecak dance there. To learn about Balinese rural life, go to a traditional farming village, where you could also try some local farming activities .

For nature lovers, Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest is a must with giant nutmeg trees and hundreds of macaque monkeys. Beach time is definitely a must on Bali. Seminyak and Nusa Dua are two recommended beach areas . Both have excellent resort choices. If you want to enjoy a quieter vibe, choose Seminyak Beach. If you're looking for various water activities, Nusa Dua is more suitable.

2. 2 Weeks in China and Bali

This itinerary focuses on the essence of each country.

In China, have a relaxing walk along the Great Wall and see the other highlights. For a more local experience, we could arrange a visit to a hutong family , where you could get a deeper understanding of the lives of the local Beijingers.

In Shanghai, embark on a deeply insightful cultural walk along the Bund. Step inside the old colonial architecture, and feel the charm of Shanghai's tradition and modernity as you witness the contrast between its modern skyline and old buildings along the Bund.

If you want to enjoy a more leisurely time in Bali, you could mainly focus on its beaches. Go on a sunset cruise at Jimbaran Beach and enjoy some quiet time at a high-end resort .

Feel free to contact us if you want to plan a trip to Bali and China. We would create a tailor-made trip based on your interests and requirements.

A China and Bali private tour costs about US$200–250 per day per person, including airfares between China and Bali, domestic transfers, 4- or 5-star hotels, lunches, attractions, and guides .

Therefore, a 2-week couple's trip may cost about US$5,500 to 7,000. A family trip with two adults and two kids would cost about US$10,000 to 12,000. (Kids under 10 get 30 to 50 percent off.) International airfares are not included.

The price gap between the low and high seasons isn't very wide. However, it's important to note that during certain major holidays, such as Christmas, hotel rates may surge by 50% to 100%.

To expand your choices, we suggest making your reservations 3 months ahead of your planned date.

When booking with us, you would receive a 100% refund of any payments made to China Highlights if you cancel up to 3 weeks before departure (to read more about this, see our cancellation policy ).

Best Times to Visit China and Bali

The best times to visit China are from March to May and from September to November. The best time to visit Bali is from May to October.

If you can't go during the best times for both of these countries (May, September, and October), we recommend making Bali a priority as the weather has a greater impact on beach activities . The weather has less of an impact when visiting China, especially in cities dominated by cultural attractions.

Bali's rainy season is from November to April. Some water activities might be affected, but many resorts have good discounted rates.

How to Travel Between China and Bali

Taking a flight is the most convenient and popular way to travel between China and Bali. Cities like Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Xiamen in China have direct flights to Bali, with a flight duration of approximately 5 to 6 hours .

For the most relaxing tour plan, we recommend starting your journey in China and then heading to Bali to experience cultural exploration first and then enjoy some beach time to end your vacation.

For Bali : Bali is visa-free to 169 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

For China : Applying for a tourist visa (L visa) is needed for most countries. See the requirements for visa applications (for the USA) here . We would provide the invitation letter that you would need for a tourist visa application when booking a tour with us.

Tour China and Bali with Us

Feel free to contact us to create your ideal trip. We would customize your itinerary to encompass your desired mix of cultural and recreational activities, and we'd take care of accommodation, transportation, transfers, and other logistical arrangements to eliminate any hassles, allowing you to focus on enjoying a truly satisfying travel experience.

“ Tour of Bali with Wayan B ”

We arranged in advance to meet Wayan at the airport when we arrived. We planned to meet the person pictured and described in Wayan’s profile. When we arrived at the airport after some confusion and enlisting the assistance of airport customer services, we were met by someone else. He said that Wayan was his boss. His English proficiency was limited. The driver was pleasant and we were able to do most of the things on our planned itinerary. However, without any notice of the change or opportunity to cancel, this last minute change felt like a bait and switch. I do not recommend Wayan B.

He answered all of my quiestions about Balian (fortune teller), president election, Bali style funeral, etc. This time we just asked him to help some of our family errands in Sanur area on the way from Ubud to Nusa Dua. He perfectly planned and acoomplished everyting in time. Here I bitterly regret I should have met him before to request a Ubud tour. Highly recommend this guide.

Namie M.

Dear Namie and Family, Your heartfelt feedback brought so much joy to my day! I'm genuinely thrilled that you enjoyed our journey together. Your family's warmth made the experience truly special, and it was my pleasure to assist with your trip in Bali. As you mentioned, there are always more adventures awaiting us, and I'm already looking forward to guiding you through Ubud on our next adventure. Wishing you safe travels until then! Arigatou Gozaimasu Mata Aimashou! Warm regards, Kotaro

“ Our kids loved him so much! ”

Wayan is such a skillful guid& driver that he organized a full new itinerary for us just after we requested our "want-to-visit" at hotel lobby in the morning. Skipping crowd, we finished several activities including giant swings and melukat. I recommend this gentle-heated guy because he's also good at videos and photos. I am sure he can maximize your stay in Ubud. Kids-friendly, well-maintainted car, and good English!

Namie M.

Hi Namie, Have a wonderful holiday in Bali and thank you very much for your good comment. どうもありがとうございます。 Best Regards, Wayan Budiana

Best Way to Get from China to Bali

  • Air travel: Opting for air travel proves to be the fastest and most convenient choice. Direct flights are available from major Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou to Denpasar Airport in Bali.
  • Sea travel: For those seeking a more adventurous and budget-friendly option, sea travel is a viable alternative. However, be prepared for longer travel times and limited departure points.

China to Bali Travel Tips

Embarking on an international journey involves more than just the mode of transportation. Here are some crucial travel tips to enhance your China to Bali experience:

  • Currency exchange: Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) is the local currency. Exchange your money at authorized money changers or ATMs.
  • Language: While Bahasa Indonesia is the official language, English is widely spoken in tourist areas.
  • Travel insurance: Secure travel insurance to cover medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost luggage.
  • Accommodation: Secure your lodging early, particularly during busy seasons, to ensure a hassle-free stay. Consider the cultural immersion in Ubud, the nightlife in Seminyak, or the luxury resorts in Nusa Dua.
  • Transportation: Taxis are readily available, but consider metered taxis or ride-hailing apps for fair prices. Motorbike rentals are popular, but exercise caution due to traffic.

Travel Options: Sea Travel vs. Air Travel

Traveling from China to Bali

Choosing air travel as your mode of transportation comes with its own set of considerations:

Air travel offers the fastest option, taking approximately 7-8 hours from major Chinese cities. The convenience and comfort of direct flights from several Chinese airports make it an appealing choice. Budget airlines further contribute to its popularity, offering generally lower costs than sea travel.

While air travel is efficient, some travelers may find it stressful, especially when dealing with layovers. Additionally, there’s a limited luggage allowance compared to sea travel, and the environmental impact is higher than sea travel.

Airport details:

Departure airports include Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN), among others. The journey concludes at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Bali.

Opting for a sea voyage provides a different set of advantages and challenges:

Sea travel is a more budget-friendly option, especially for travelers with large luggage. It offers a scenic journey and a unique experience, with a lower environmental impact compared to air travel.

However, sea travel comes with significantly longer travel times, taking up to 5 days from Chinese ports. Departure points are limited, typically from Guangzhou or Shenzhen, and the journey can be less comfortable, susceptible to weather conditions.

Port/ship details:

Departure ports include Guangzhou Huangpu Port and Shenzhen Shekou Port. Passenger ferries operated by companies like Pelni and Djakarta Lloyd facilitate this maritime journey.

Remember: The best travel option depends on your individual preferences, budget, and travel style. Consider factors like travel time, cost, comfort, and environmental impact before making your decision.

Bali is world-famous as a tourist island. The local language is Balinese & Indonesian and English are also wildly spoken. Following the influx of Chinese tourists into Bali these years, in the year of 2019 Chinese tourists had taken Australians and become the top 1 country by number of visitors in Bali, therefore, Chinese speaking tour guides have become in large demand . Since 2009 ,Bali Mandarin Center has trained a large numbers of local Indonesians who aim to work as Chinese tour guides .

Business Chinese Test (BCT), as an international, standardized test of Chinese language proficiency, focuses on assessing non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities to use the Chinese language in real business or common working environments and evaluating the language tasks they are able to complete. It aims to provide references for companies to recruit and select employees, for schools and training institutions to organize teaching activities, and for learners to evaluate themselves.

The BCT, as a test series, consists of three independent tests: BCT (A), BCT (B) and the BCT Speaking Test. The BCT (A), which is oriented towards beginners, is designed to examine test takers’ ability to communicate in Chinese in daily life and during basic business activities. The BCT (B), which is oriented towards intermediate and advanced learners, is designed to examine test takers’ ability to communicate in Chinese during complex business activities. The BCT Speaking Test, which is oriented towards learners of all levels, adopts the form of a computer-based test as well as personalized and targeted questions to examine test takers’ ability to complete various communicative tasks by using spoken Chinese.

  • Graham C 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Incredible value. Great fun but not for serious cooks I had a great time doing this cooking class! For $A32 I was transported to and from the beautiful location, given a guided wander around a small food market, helped to cook Balinese food and fed an enormous tasty lunch! Great value! I have a serious celebrity crush on Puspa, the charismatic lady who runs this tightly-organised experience. She is a ray of sunshine, honey! While I loved the hours I spent making many dishes, this class would not be for everyone. If you are a serious cook, this probably isn’t for you as much of the food prep is done for you by Puspa’s lovely assistants. The actual cooking you do is pretty basic stuff so don’t expect your Balinese MasterChef experience. This class is pitched at non-cooks….. no skills needed. That said, I fancy myself as a cook and I still loved it. I loved seeing Puspa’s stunning family home. I loved interacting with people from all over the world. I loved the delicious banquet we devoured. I loved Puspa! Read more Written 5 April 2024

Everybody gets a work station and is fully involved all the way through. And then you get to eat the feast at the end! Would highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Read more Written 29 March 2024
  • Jodi G 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Must do experience in Seminyak 10/10 experience, the chef Komang was absolutely class - really funny and engaging and knowledgeable. So much fun to watch him cook and to help with the cooking, was like being a kid again! We booked on to the veggie class as we wanted an afternoon class and that was the only one on this afternoon- but as we weren't actually veggie the chef also told us how to make it with meat and gave us chicken satay skewers at the end as well. And there was so much food at the end - we barely made a dent in it but they let you take home extras and you get the cook book. Really recommend it, especially if you get Komang! Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Davis

We had the pleasure of having Putu accompany us every day during our recent vacation to Bali. Our first time in Indonesia and Bali, Putu did everything in his power to make sure we were comfortable and at ease.

Your service was exceptional and your price very competitive. I would highly recommend your services to any other organisation wanting to transfer their special clients from one destination to another in Bali.

Putu was reccomended to us as a driver when we recently visited Bali. he is very friendly and has great english skills. he is always on time and hs very good airconditioning. he organised our white water rafting tour and got us a discount.

Gerald and Kaye Brown

We cruised to Bali last week and spent the day with Putu Sudiana. I would highly recommend Putu. We had the most wonderful day. He was right on time, a careful driver and an excellent guide. Very proud of his island home and took us to unique places.

Allen and Sandra Edwards

I too used Putu Sudiana for a few days at the end of February and agree with the other posts. I only had 3 days in Bali and wanted to see as much as possible. Putu suggested an itinerary which I enjoyed very much. Even had some Cafe Lewak.

Getting Around Bali

Public Transport

Traveling in bus is the best way to get around Bali. The tickets are cheaper and they are more reliable. It's a great choice if you're planning for cheap Bali packages . One of the popular bus service providers is Perama. They operate between all of the popular destinations in Bali and it is advised to book one day well in advance.

Taxi & Airport transfer

The most popular taxi service provider in Bali is Blue Bird Taxi. The cars are modern and they come with well-trained, decent English speaking drivers. For instant rides and advance bookings, call the company directly. Airport transfers are also offered by Blue Bird Taxis. Additionally, there is an air-conditioned bus service called Trans Sarbagita which helps in airport transfer.

Transport & city passes

Transport passes are the effective way to get around Bali at a cheaper price. The popular shuttle-service provider of Kura-Kura offers two types of passes: Kura Kura trip ticket and Kura Kura day pass. Based on your frequency of travel, you can choose between any of the two.

Driving & Car rental

Renting a car or a motorbike also allows you to explore Bali at your own pace. They are comparatively expensive than public transportation. And it is important to keep in mind the road rules and safety measures pertaining to Bali. Traffic in Bali is considered to be unpleasant and hence it will be wise to plan each day accordingly. Arak: Balinese liquor made by distilling coconut palm wine, or wine made with black rice and coconut milk.

Teh Panas: A refreshing tea that is taken sans milk. Ask for the special ginger infused tea!

Pisang Goreng: Plantains covered in batter and fried deeply - consumed as an all time snack in Indonesia.

Bali Guling: Also known as suckling pig, it is stuffed of a spicy mix containing coriander seeds, lemongrass, pepper and garlic, and is roasted.

Balinese wine: A wine made from home-grown grapes in Bali - rose, red and white are popular varieties.

Bali Travel Wisdom

Culture & etiquette.

Bali over the years has become a popular destination for travellers. Most places in Bali such as resorts and beaches do not have a strict dress code. Bali has predominantly a mix of Hindu and Muslim culture, that demands that visitors dress modestly in and around the temples and cultural centres. If you are dressed in shorts when visiting these places, ensure you carry a sarong or get one nearby.A namaste or greeting with folded hands is a most respectful way to greet people in Bali.

Major events & Public Holidays

The Bali Arts Festival is held in June, a must visit for the culture lovers for its performances and parades. Yet another festival you may catch a glimpse of in June and July is the Bali Kite Festival. Bali's most important festival is Galingan in April that will give a peek into their rituals.

Road rules and driving license

Indonesia follows left-hand side driving. Travellers require an International Driving License or a local Indonesian temporary license called SIM. While you can rent vehicles in Bali, the traffic conditions may not be very easy to drive in. Helmets are a must-have when riding two wheelers. If you are renting a two wheeler, remember that the Balinese don't like to honk! Check if your rental vehicle has been insured. While renting cars is possible, it is hassle free to rent a vehicle with a driver.

Know your Indonesian

Balinese and Indonesian are the languages spoken in Bali by the locals there. Owing to the wide expatriate and tourist community in Bali, the locals are quite comfortable with English which leaves no language barrier. Fun fact: Don't be surprised if are welcomed with ' Hey mate' as every year 600.000 to 700.000 Australians visit Bali as it's a popular tourist location among them!

Such an amazing holiday. Kadek, Yustus and Tress were all such amazing guides and took us around to a range of places to see and experience many different aspects of Bali/Gili. Bali Tour & Tour Packages Reviews

There are no words to describe how amazing this tour was! In 12 days we had the time to see all the must to see places in Bali and around! I owe a special mention to our tour guide Yosia aka Josh! This guy is a true legend! He didn’t leave an unanswered question not even once from all the guys in the group. His knowledge, dedication but mostly his love for his place made us to respect and love this place too! Always understanding and very capable to give the solution to any issue that could arise. He was definitely the key person on this tour, I shall be always grateful to him!
Initially a little sceptical about a tour as it was my first one abroad. However!!!! I‘m in love with Bali and its people. Stacia was the best guide. Very knowledgeable and always there to answer our questions. Sad that my trip is ending. 10/10 reccommend♥️
We had a wonderful trip with our excellent tour guide Holly. She was great showing us around and being like a good friend. The tour is perfect for first time Bali visitors. In 9 days you visit most of the island like wonderful temples, rice terraces, beaches, surfing, snorkeling, a Bali family visit and a language session and in the evening there are wonderful sunsets and fun to go out.

You would head over to car-free Gili Air, followed by an immersive sunset cruise on Jimbaran Bay. Gili Air is the best chill-out island, while if you're looking for bustling nightlife, go to the party island—Gili Trawangan.

You could basket on the postcard-perfect beaches, cycle around the coastline, and go on a snorkeling trip to spot sea turtles and vibrant marine life.

Then return to Bali and fly to your next destination!

7 days is a little bit rushed to explore both Bali and Gili Islands. For a more comfortable beach vacation, check our 10-day itineraries .

How Much Is a 7-Day Bali Trip?

bali chinese tour guide

Jessie was amazing ! Everything from her level of English to her understanding of what we valued .

We had a good time exploring the city with Selinda!

Our guide lele is a wealth of information, Lele is very professional and very attentive to our needs. Lele is amazing. Lele got everything spot on. It probably helps that Guilin is a brilliant place to visit so Lele has great material to work with but that doesn't take anything away from how much Lele helped make it a great trip.

Our guide for Beijing was super knowledgeable and experienced and able to help us to achieve as much as we wanted within the time given. We had a fun time guided by him as he is also super humorous and you can see how he interacts with the vendors and people whom he comes by. Thank you for a very enjoyable time in Beijing and accommodating to all our needs!

Our China Highlight guide. Michael, was attentive, thoughtful and knowledgeable. He narrated many interesting historical events about Chengdu while touring around the city and having afternoon tea with us. He was thoughtful to provide us with snacks during long hikes at Leshan or walks around the city.

She was very flexible and added extra time when we needed it and we felt extremely well taken care of. She also chose the best restaurants for us,

Our tour guide Helen, was excellent, she was very kind, professional and passionate for her work and she also loves Pandas! She will take you to take the best panda photos and to know more about Chengdu city. Our tour was great, she took us to all our destinations always with the best spots: Temples, pagodas, famous streets, theaters, pandas...you name it! Everything was great.

He picked up our pre-booked boat/other excursions tickets so we were able to avoid all the long lines and chaos. He is knowledgeable of the places we visited, courteous, fun to travel with and well-versed in Chinese classics.

Tom is the guide that will take you to where no other guide will. We pushed for the experience and Tom and the team delivered more than what we could have ever asked for. His English speaking ability and his Chinese history knowledge is second to none.
