BTM è uno degli eventi dedicati al turismo che da anni riunisce in Puglia operatori, amministrazioni, imprese, enti pubblici e privati con l'obiettivo di creare una rete di valori intorno al tema del turismo per rafforzare il legame tra il territorio e le dinamiche internazionali.

Da sette anni, BTM propone un modello di turismo basato sui principi cardine di professionalità , formazione, destinazione e ospitalità , digitale e innovazione, alta qualità dei servizi, business, cultura, benessere, valorizzazione del territorio e accoglienza sostenibile.

BTM, nel tempo, è diventato un evento internazionale con un marchio riconoscibile e riconosciuto e che per la settima edizione punta ad alzare l'asticella della qualità dei suoi contenuti.

L'edizione 2023 in tre giorni ha ospitato circa 27mila presenze e 17mila visitatori unici, 250 espositori, più di 400 aziende, 16 attività, 255 relatori ed esperti di turismo, 120 buyer nazionali e internazionali, spettacoli culturali, performance musicali e 15 istituti scolastici a indirizzo turistico.

This GBS course will provide you with opportunities to test your knowledge and understanding through informal formative assessments. Formative assessments will be completed before your formal summative assessment, which will determine your final marks.

Each module normally contains at least one piece of formative assessment from which you will receive feedback from your course team. Formative assessments are purely for developmental purposes and do not count towards your final module mark. They are designed to help you to gain more knowledge and confidence in the module material and approaches to formal assessment. Students who do not engage with informal assessments often struggle with Foundation Year progression, as well as with the academic levels above.

The formal summative assessment usually occurs towards the end of each module. Assessment methods may include written examinations and a range of coursework, including reports, portfolios, essays, and presentations. The marks awarded for summative assessments count towards your final module mark. Assessment methods at GBS are reviewed annually and may be updated in consultation with students, for example in response to student or External Examiner feedback. An External Examiner is an independent academic expert from another higher education provider, and they are appointed by Canterbury Christ Church University to provide external assurance regarding the academic standards of your course.

Standard Entry Requirements (Under 21 years old) Minimum 80 UCAS tariff points or 60 Credit Ofqual qualification at level 3.

Applicants who do not meet the above entry requirements will be considered on an individual basis

Applicants aged 21+

  If applicants aged 21+ do not meet the standard entry requirements, we will also consider those with life/work skills which would make them suitable for undergraduate study with our Foundation programme.

All applicants must be assessed by the GBS admissions team via an interview for listening and speaking skills and for writing via a statement of personal reflection.

Funding your study You can apply for help with your fees from the government by visiting gov.uk/studentfinance . This could take the form of a Tuition Fee Loan, Maintenance Loan or Maintenance Grant.

A Tuition Fee Loan will cover the cost of your up-front fees and will be paid to your university or college. The Loan must be repaid once you have finished your course and are earning £26,575 a year or more. Both full and part-time learners can apply.

If you are eligible, you can apply for a Maintenance Loan too. The Loan is paid directly into your bank account at the start of term. The loan repayments only start once you leave your course and when your earnings are more than £26,575. For more information, please visit Student Finance.

Maintenance Grants are paid into your bank account at the start of term. You don’t have to pay it back, but any funds you get will reduce the amount of Maintenance Loan you are eligible for.

New students must prove they have been living in the UK for five years before their course start date in order to get living cost support from Student Finance England.

Il BTM 2024 ( Business Tourism Management ) fa il suo ritorno a Bari con grande entusiasmo, programmando l’edizione del 2024 nei giorni 27-28-29 febbraio presso la suggestiva Fiera del Levante.

Questa tre giorni sarà un trionfo di speech, panel, incontri B2B e B2C, formazione, convegni e attività legate all’expo, creando un ambiente dinamico e ricco di opportunità.

La Puglia: Terzo Polo Italiano per i professionisti del turismo

La Puglia sta emergendo come il terzo polo italiano per i professionisti del turismo, e il BTM rappresenta l’occasione ideale per gli esperti del settore di riunirsi dopo gli eventi di successo del TTG e della BIT . L’evento BTM, consolidato nel panorama del turismo pugliese, ha svolto un ruolo fondamentale nell’unire operatori, amministrazioni, imprese, enti pubblici e privati per creare una rete di valori che rafforzi il legame tra il territorio e le dinamiche internazionali del turismo.

BTM 2024: “PLAY – Un Nuovo Codice Adattivo”

Il contesto contemporaneo di radicali trasformazioni sociali, ambientali e tecnologiche esercita un’influenza ineluttabile sul settore turistico. Affinché il turismo possa plasmare il proprio futuro, è chiamato a superare gli schemi consolidati e ad abbracciare nuove regole . L’adattamento, inteso non solo come risposta passiva al cambiamento ma come dominio attivo, richiede l’impiego pieno della creatività per concepire soluzioni innovative e flessibili. Questo comporta la ristrutturazione degli spazi fisici e virtuali, la ridefinizione dell’ offerta , la creazione di nuovi linguaggi e la ricodifica del senso della realtà.

Il tema centrale per l’edizione 2024 del BTM è “ PLAY – a new adaptive code “, un invito rivolto a tutti gli attori dell’industria turistica a partecipare a una nuova fase di crescita. The Bachelor of Tourism Management program is a continuation of the knowledge developed through the hospitality, tourism, and outdoor recreation diploma programs. With community-based projects and two paid co-op semesters, students gain opportunities to forge valuable industry connections and experience.

Upon graduation students find exciting career opportunities in commercial recreation and tourism, adventure tourism, tour operations, not-for-profit agencies, and inclusive leisure. VIU’s Tourism degree gives students the leading edge in this high-demand and growing industry.

The Bachelor of Tourism Management Program

The Bachelor of Tourism Management (BTM) program builds on existing diploma programs in Recreation and Sport Management, Tourism Studies and Hospitality Management that stress career-entry skills. Students may apply to the third year of the degree program after completing a diploma in various fields including Recreation, Travel and Tourism, or Hospitality, Physical Education, and Outdoor Recreation.

The degree program will provide applied skills and concepts related to the design of tourism products and management of tourism services. The degree will focus on the development of management and entrepreneurial skills needed for people wishing to assume greater responsibilities within an organization, or for those wishing to start new enterprises.

Program Outline

Students starting in Year 1 of the Bachelor of Tourism Management program will choose either the  Recreation and Sport Management  option or the  Tourism Studies  option. Students who have completed a Diploma in Recreation and Sport Management, Tourism Studies, or Hospitality will start in  Year 3 .

Recreation and Sport Management Option

Tourism studies option, years 3 and 4, major in recreation management.

The BTM Major in Recreation Management is a well-rounded program that provides students with a solid grounding in recreation governance, leisure behaviour, leisure education, and leisure service management. Students wishing to pursue a career in recreation service delivery with public and non-profit organizations are encouraged to complete the Major in Recreation Management as part of their BTM.

Major Requirements

In addition to VIU degree English requirements, students wishing to earn the Major in Recreation Management must complete the courses listed below.

Completion Requirements

The expected, normal time required to complete the degree program (years 3 and 4) will be two years for full-time students. Part-time students who may require a longer time to complete the program are encouraged to apply, as the department is committed to the provision of coursework through a variety of alternative methods (Prior Learning Assessment, online, evening, short intensive sessions).

CONTINUING REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM SESSIONAL GRADE POINT AVERAGE

Students must maintain a GPA of 2.33 (C+) in order to qualify for work placement activities.

Students must maintain an average "C+" grade and must perform satisfactorily in work placement activities in order to graduate. 

PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT

Students who have gained required skills, knowledge and competencies taught in the degree program in Tourism and Recreation may consider seeking recognition and assessment of their prior learning. Students who are successful in demonstrating prior learning to the extent required by the faculty will be granted appropriate credit toward the degree.

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements – year 1.

The following are admission requirements for students applying to Year 1 of the Bachelor of Tourism Management program:

  • General admission requirements  apply.
  • Official transcript of grades from high school (and post-secondary institutions where applicable).

Note: Students applying online should select either the Tourism Studies option or the Recreation and Sport Management option. Students applying with a printed application form should identify which of the two options they are interested in.  

Notes on Admission

  • Field work may require a criminal record check prior to placement.
  • Enrolment in this program is limited. Students who meet or exceed the minimum admission requirements may not necessarily be admitted to the program.
  • All new students must participate in a compulsory orientation held early in the Fall semester.
  • Students admitted to the degree can exit after Year 2 and apply for a diploma in Tourism Studies or Recreation and Sport Management.

Admission Requirements – Year 3

Students may apply to the third year of the degree program after successful completion of a diploma in Recreation and Sport Management ,  Tourism Studies ,  Hospitality Management , or by permission of the department.

  • Admission to the third year of the program is limited. Students who meet or exceed the minimum admission requirements may not necessarily be admitted to the program.
  • All students must participate in a compulsory orientation which takes place early in the Fall semester.

Career Opportunities

The management of recreation and tourism services is a challenging career in this increasingly leisure-oriented society. Dynamic, creative, and innovative people are needed to plan, organize, and supervise recreation and tourism experiences in a variety of settings, and VIU’s degree program prepares individuals for positions in areas, as follows.

  • Supervisory/Management positions: usually found in organizations where diploma graduates require continual upgrading of their leadership knowledge base to make strategic business decisions.
  • Independent entrepreneurs: small business opportunities in the tourism and recreation industries.
  • Front line-positions: where most people begin their career, these positions require an understanding of the industry and the ability to anticipate, respond to, and satisfy customer needs.

Examples of specific employment opportunities include:

  • Commercial Recreation and Tourism Enterprises , such as private tour companies, leisure related retail outlets, tourism attractions, health spas, fitness complexes.
  • Adventure Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Park Management , providing nature-based leisure experiences like camping, wilderness experiences, risk recreation, as well as environmental education and managing the resources required for nature-based leisure.
  • Tourism Services ,including destination resorts and hotels, theme parks, tourist attractions, convention and meeting business, and special events and festivals.
  • Tour Operations , including packaging, marketing and operation of tours, tour guiding and interpretation services.
  • Sport Management, Public Recreation and Tourism ,including parks and recreation departments in municipalities and regional districts, government tourism agencies, community schools, recreation associations, and public recreation facilities.
  • Not-for-profit Agencies , including YM/YWCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, and others represented within our communities.
  • Accommodation and Food Services , including hotels, restaurants, resorts, and large food service companies providing management services to hospitals, universities and airlines.
  • Inclusive Leisure , involving the provision of recreation and tourism services to individuals or groups with special needs in settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centres, mental health and community health centres, etc.

Work Placement Opportunities

Students in the third year of the degree will participate in either a Co-operative Education work term or an Internship. In order to receive a Co-operative Education designation, transfer students must have successfully completed two Co-op work terms in their diploma activity. Participation in the third Co-op work term is based on availability of space and academic performance with a minimum 3.0 (“B”) grade point average.

Co-op Fees  for co-operative education and internships are due during the second month of each work term.

When applying to graduate, students will be charged a non-refundable graduation and alumni fee .

Some courses have additional fees to pay for extraordinary class–related expenses.

Students taking the Co-operative Education Preparation course for one credit should adjust their fees accordingly.

The VIUSU Health and Dental Plan fee is assessed for all students enrolled in 6 credits or more per term, or in Trades/Vocational programs of 5 months or longer.  

All fees are subject to change without prior notice and are expected to increase by 2% each year on April 1.

Introduction

Programme structure.

In line with the Ministry of Tourism’s Strategic Plan for realization of Vision 2030, the Bachelor of Tourism Management (BTM) programme aims at producing highly, but broadly inter-disciplinary oriented professionals in aspects of tourism planning, development and management; tourism promotion and marketing and; also, sensitized to the variety of the natural and cultural habitats of the world, the basis of tourism activities. The programme inculcates an interdisciplinary approach to the study of tourism management by complementing tourism management modules/courses with service, marketing, leadership and management input to generate a manager with a touch of all aspects of tourism business management.  The delivery of the programme depicts a student centered learning approach which includes a combination of lectures, blended learning, group discussions, seminars and workshops, internship and research.  BTM programme provides learners with an opportunity to be the best they can be through enhanced sense of awareness, exposure, responsibility and confidence, in the identified strategic deficient areas of the industry. After completion of the training, the BTM graduate should is equipped with knowledge, skills, and requisite attitudes in preparation for professional occupation in the tourism industry and other related service sectors, and subsequent advanced education.

The course is designed to allow you to develop an awareness of modern tourism business practice through practical activities which aim to equip you with a holistic understanding of how tourism businesses and destinations function.

A practical and practice-based programme, this course will equip you with the agile, reflexive and critical thinking skills which are vital for success in tourism organisations. The course is based around four core pillars of being digital, sustainable, innovative and responsible tourism professionals. You will explore the functional areas of tourism through these themes giving an immersive experience which will result in a thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by tourism organisations and destinations in the 21 st century.

The University is an Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) Centre of Excellence which recognises leading universities who work particularly closely with the Institute to develop and maintain high professional standards throughout the travel and tourism industry. The tourism course will grant an annual ITT Centre of Excellence Student of the Year award to a student identified by the university. The course is also aligned to membership with the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), providing you with the opportunity to access vital industry information and webinars. ABTA also facilitate an internship programme which you have the opportunity to apply for in the final year of your degree.

Our new, purpose-built Business School, the Lord Swraj Paul Building, sits at the heart of the University's City Campus - Molineux, right next to Wolverhampton Wanderers' Molineux Stadium. Course Modules

The module is sectioned into two parts. The first part of the module aims to provide students with a practical understanding of the digital business, the need for digital transformation to support innovation and to continue to have a competitive advantage in the marketplace. The various digital business models are explored along with the importance of digital capability. The second part of the module introduces students to the information systems that support todays digital business. A range of information systems are examined including those that support the operations of the digital business, through to its sales and marketing functions. The importance big data and business intelligence are introduced before examining how today’s digital business can apply business intelligence to develop new products and services long with improvements in efficiency and its business processes.

This module provides students with knowledge of frameworks to understand the importance of marketing and digital marketing tools within the business environment.   Activities will provide students with the opportunity to understand the marketing concepts an organisation will need to use in order to compete in today's dynamic market place.  This module will further engage students towards developing a clear understanding of some these key issues and apply concepts and techniques discussed during the sessions and through independent academic research.  

This module will explore what it takes for a business to be innovative; as you will be introduced to various theoretical views and opinions in the areas of creativity, innovation and enterprise. Those who study this module will be challenged to consider where, how and why ideas are generated; how ideas are implemented; and who and what type of people/teams develop new ideas.

This module aims to introduce tourism students to the range of theories and concepts in sociology, culture and planning as they relate to tourism and tourism destinations. The module will focus on how tourism can engender a sense of placemaking and identity formation through regeneration and creative practices.

This is an introductory module to tourism and the tourism industry. It provides an overview of the basic concepts and principles of tourism as an industry and subject of study. The module draws upon the multidisciplinary nature of tourism exploring and applying perspectives from history, geography, psychology, business and economics.

The module provides an analysis of marketing and management in tourism destinations. The module explores the role of marketing in destination development and draws upon challenges facing destination marketing/management organisations (DMOs) in analysing increasingly complex tourism market structures and external trends. The researching and selecting of marketing opportunities and threats will be investigated. Specific treatment will be given to the analysis of creative marketing aspects including destination product development, positioning, image generation and branding. The module will also examine different tourism planning approaches and discuss their role within the context of destination development.

The aim of this module is to provide an introduction of a range of financial and accounting skills to the business students, which will help their understanding and managerial decision making skills. Learners will evaluate the organisation’ financial statements, identify the principles for setting and managing budgets and understand finance within the organisation. This module has been designed to enhance the learner’s confidence and credibility in financial management, which will translate into improved management skills

This module will introduce students to contemporary research topics in Leisure through a lens of research approaches. The module is designed to flexibly incorporate emerging concepts and context in leisure research. The contemporary themes within the module will explore a variety of academic debates and industry issues at local, national and international levels.

The aim of this module is to develop students’ understanding of management and leadership principles, and to explore the influence various leadership and management approaches have on key Human Resource Management functions, including Change Management. Through the study of emerging leadership concepts, such as super-leadership, students will develop an appreciation for the development of self as a method to support others in their development. Reflective practice underpins the module to support students in assessing their own approach to learning and development.

Tourism is impacted upon by a number of external factors and events including terrorism, war, financial crisis, pandemics and natural disasters. Furthermore, the economic, social and environmental impacts of tourism results in destinations needing to develop sustainable strategies that consider tourisms resulting impact. The module critically explores strategy and management plans for ensuring long term sustainability and resilience in destinations.

Tourism can both influence and be influenced by a number of external market trends. A deep analysis of these trends will equip you with the skills and knowledge to exploit market trends as they arise in the future. The module explores and investigates different market trends in tourism analysing their emergence and growth. The module will also analyse and appraise products and destinations that are emerging in tourism.

The Professional Project capstone module is an independent study unit. Students will be able to draw together learning form their previous subjects, focusing on their key strengths, in the production of a business artefact. Alongside the artefact students will develop a written critical reflection, which is designed elucidate their rational for choice of artefact and reflect on the process of its production and dissemination.

The strategic business module will equip students with the knowledge required to make strategic decisions at both a corporate and functional level. Students will also develop the skills required to evaluate the success of implemented strategy within an organisational context. This will inform decision making at a corporate and functional level.

  • Develop and apply research, writing, numerical, digital and personal skills within a tourism management context.
  • Critically appraise relevant knowledge and understanding of organisations, the external environment in which they operate and management theory when assessing and solving problems in different tourism management scenarios.
  • Apply relevant transferable skills to a career in tourism management (for example, managing projects, communication, working in teams, research and appropriate technologies and critically reflect on the effectiveness of their own skills and knowledge in such application.
  • Examine contemporary and strategic issues through the application of relevant analytical concepts, models and theories.
  • Evaluate and demonstrate an informed understanding of ethical responsibilities contributing to their professional values and their role in organisations and society in the 21 st century.

The BTM curriculum, which is a combination of theory and field work, is unique to Strathmore as it provides the students with the necessary competence in tourism product development and destination management, tourism policy and planning, wildlife management, ecotourism and sustainable tourism, among others.

Career options range from tourism policy and planning in tourism agencies, running a tour and travel company, working in NGO’s and international organizations, setting up wildlife conservancy and eco-lodges, or venturing into business start-up of developing tourist destinations that abound in Kenya and in neighboring countries.

All students are required to take the compulsory humanity units that include philosophy, ethics, communication skills and foreign languages, which enable the students to attain a holistic development.

Both hospitality and tourism students do the common units together such as management subjects, accounting, economics, marketing, business management and entrepreneurship, statistics and research methods. All students are required to submit a research project in any area related to hospitality and tourism as a final requirement to attaining the degree.

The tourism students undertake field work and educational trips, either day trips or overnight to tourist destination areas as part of the taught units, accompanied by competent lecturers.

From local to global and back again

I loved the community of like-minded students and instructors that shared a passion for people and adventure. I studied abroad in Australia for a semester, learning about tourism there, and I also took part in a practicum in northern Chile working with a developing tourism community.
