Travel Agency Takeover Policy

FIT Direct Booking – Travel Agency Takeover Guests booked with our Inbound/Outbound Consumer Sales Department may decide to work with a travel agent; at the direct guest’s request, a travel agency may takeover the booking with the following policy in place: A Travel Agency may take over a direct booking made through any FIT direct channel as long as the transaction happens no later than 90 days after the booking is made or prior to the penalty period (whichever occurs first). If the booking is made within penalty period, the agency has 24 hours from the time the booking is made to call in and take over the reservation.

  • The travel agent will need to provide Service with all the pertinent booking information which includes: Booking number / Guest's name / Stateroom number / Sail date.
  • The travel agent must be able to provide the PIN Number - this was provided by the direct at the time of booking; bookings made on carnival.com will not have a PIN number to provide. If there is no PIN Number or the agent cannot provide one, the Service agent will contact the direct guest to verify that the booking takeover is acceptable.

FIT Travel Agency Booking - Transfer to Another Travel Agency This occurs when one travel agency is taking over a booking from another travel agency. The travel agency releasing a booking to another agency must send a letter on the agency's letterhead stationery and signed by the manager or the owner of the agency. The letter must include:

  • Booking number(s)
  • Names of guests
  • Instructions regarding the monies (transfer money or refund)
  • Telephone number and name of agency taking over the booking
  • Name of the travel agent (contact) taking over the booking

Carnival will not do an Agency Takeover on bookings that are paid in full since the commission has been paid and mailed to the first agency. Before Carnival’s Guest Admin Department does the actual transfer, they will call the travel agency releasing the booking, speak to the owner or manager and verify that all the information in the letter is correct. Email to:   [email protected] Fax to:     305 406-6477 Mail to:    Carnival Cruise Lines                  ATT: Guest Admin / MSGA-457s                  3655 NW 87 Avenue                  Miami, FL 33178-2428 Travel Agency Group Booking - Transfer to Another Travel Agency This occurs when one travel agency is taking over a booking from another travel agency. The travel agency releasing a booking to another agency must send a letter on the agency's letterhead stationery and signed by the manager or the owner of the agency. The letter must include:

  • Booking number
  • The actual amount of money deposited on the booking
  • Address of the new agency, phone number and agent handling the booking

The booking can be transferred at any time up until final payment. Before Carnival’s Guest Admin Department does the actual transfer, they will call the travel agency releasing the booking, speak to the owner or manager and verify that all the information in the letter is correct. Email to:   [email protected] Fax to:     305 406-6477 Mail to:    Carnival Cruise Lines                  ATT: Guest Admin / MSGA-457s                  3655 NW 87 Avenue                  Miami, FL 33178-2428 Direct Group Booking - Travel Agency Takeover When a new group booking for a direct guest is made, the booking must be taken over within 90 days of having made the booking or prior to penalty period (whichever comes first). The only exception to that rule is if the booking was made within penalty period, in which case the agency has 24 hours from the time the booking was made to take over the group.  An agency takeover request form must still be filled out and faxed back to the Group Fax number: 305 406-8654.

Carnival Cruise PVP vs. Travel Agent: Understanding the Difference

Updated: Jan 10

Planning a cruise vacation can be an exciting yet overwhelming experience. With so many options available, it's essential to have the right support to ensure a smooth and enjoyable booking process. When it comes to booking a Carnival Cruise, travelers often consider working with a Carnival Cruise PVP or a traditional travel agent. While both options offer valuable assistance, there are distinct differences between the two that can impact your overall cruise booking experience.

PvP or Travel Agent

Carnival Cruise PVP:

A Carnival Cruise PVP, or Personal Vacation Planner, is a dedicated representative employed by Carnival Cruise Line to assist prospective guests with their cruise bookings. PVPs are well-versed in the details of Carnival's cruise itineraries, onboard amenities, and promotions, and they are typically accessible by phone or email. When working with a Carnival Cruise PVP, guests receive personalized service from a knowledgeable professional who specializes in Carnival Cruise Line products.

Advantages of working with a Carnival Cruise PVP:

1. In-depth knowledge of Carnival Cruise Line: PVPs are experts in Carnival's offerings, allowing them to provide detailed information about various ships, destinations, and onboard experiences.

2. Exclusive access to Carnival promotions: PVPs often have access to special promotions and discounts that may not be widely advertised, providing guests with potential cost savings and added benefits.

3. Personalized service: PVPs can offer personalized recommendations based on a guest's preferences, helping to tailor the cruise experience to individual needs and desires.

Travel Agent:

On the other hand, a traditional travel agent is an independent professional or part of a travel agency who assists clients with booking various travel experiences, including cruises. Travel agents work with multiple cruise lines and travel providers, offering a broad range of options to their clients. They provide comprehensive travel planning services, including booking flights, accommodations, and excursions in addition to cruises.

Advantages of working with a travel agent:

1. Diverse expertise: Travel agents have knowledge of a wide array of cruise lines and travel companies, allowing them to offer clients a broader selection of vacation options.

2. Comprehensive travel planning: In addition to booking cruises, travel agents can assist with other travel arrangements, such as flights, hotels, and ground transportation, providing a one-stop solution for all travel needs.

3. Advocacy and support: Travel agents often provide ongoing support to their clients, including assistance with travel insurance, itinerary changes, and other travel-related issues.

Which option is right for you?

Choosing between a Carnival Cruise PVP and a travel agent ultimately depends on your specific preferences and needs. If you are primarily interested in booking a Carnival Cruise and desire specialized knowledge and personalized service, working with a Carnival Cruise PVP may be the ideal choice. However, if you are considering multiple cruise lines or wish to plan a more comprehensive travel itinerary, a travel agent could provide the expertise and support you require.

In conclusion , both Carnival Cruise PVPs and travel agents offer valuable support for booking cruise vacations, each with its own unique advantages. Whether you opt for a Carnival Cruise PVP or a travel agent, the key is to find a knowledgeable and reliable professional who can help you plan and book the perfect cruise vacation tailored to your preferences.

Ultimately, the goal is to ensure a memorable and enjoyable cruise experience,

Travel agent reveals amount of alcohol you need to drink to make cruise drinks package worth it

Travel agent reveals amount of alcohol you need to drink to make cruise drinks package worth it

There's a very specific point where you start having 'free drinks', so to speak.

Tom Earnshaw

Tom Earnshaw

A travel agent who specialises in cruise ship holidays has revealed all when it comes to drink packages and if they're really worth it.

Those heading on a cruise ship can make the experience truly immersive and all-inclusive by upgrading to premium drinks packages .

The prices can differ significantly depending on who you're sailing with and what you're booking. P&O Cruises will cost you between £44.95 and £54.95 per day for its alcohol packages. In comparison, Royal Caribbean's booze option is around $89 (£71) a day.

Then there's the alcohol-free packages, which for P&O are £24.95 a day or up to $38 (£30) a day with the likes of Royal Caribbean.

Sure, it's not for everyone and they add to a cruising experience that certainly isn't cheap . One former cruise-worker-come-traveller even explains why she would never pay for one again .

But they are chosen by so many travellers year in, year out, that some people might feel peer pressured into it from the off.

Well, listen to the experts is our advice. And over on TikTok , one travel agent has revealed all when it comes to making that big decision.

Elisa, who runs The Paradise Travel Group , has posted a handy explainer to all her viewers that's been viewed thousands of times already.

Lots of travellers question whether they should purchase the drinks package on a cruise. (Getty Stock Image)

"As a travel agent that specialises in cruises the number one question I get is 'should I purchase the drinks package?'" Elisa says .

"Let's talk about it. On average, the drink package typically pays off once you've had about six or seven drinks per day on your cruise. That's typically the point in which you're going to break even with your drink package.

"Now any drink above and beyond that is what you're benefiting from when you're purchasing the drink package. You're almost getting them for free.

"If you're the type of person that knows they're going to drink probably less than six to seven drinks per day, then that's the point in which you really want to ask yourself if the drink package is worth it for you.

Delicious. (Getty Stock Image)

"Because nine times out of ten, at that point it is just going to be less expensive to go a la carte for all your drinks. The one exception I say to this is if you are looking to go in to your cruise with an all inclusive mindset, you don't want to have to think about the drink prices, you don't want to have to worry, you want to know that it is prepaid and you can get whatever you want.

"In that case yes it's probably worth it to just splurge and get the drink package."

Elisa also shares a handy hack when it comes to getting the best price for your package, with the cost of them fluctuating significantly prior to sailing as cruise lines put on sales.

Well, you can take advantage of this. Elisa says: "The cruise lines totally vary but something I tell my clients is, especially on Royal Caribbean, those drink package prices are going to fluctuate a lot from the time you book your cruise up until the day of your cruise.

"It's always cheaper to purchase the drink package before your cruise but the day on which you purchase it might be a bit more expensive than two weeks later when they throw in a great sale.

"A lot of people don't know that these cruise add ons are refundable. So if you purchase the drink package and then three weeks go by... you find the drink package has dropped in price you can cancel your drink package and rebook it for the new lower rate. You can do this up until the week before the cruise."

There's so much more than alcohol too.

With Carnival cruises for example you get speciality coffees, energy drinks, bottled water, teas, and carbonated drinks.

"For Royal Caribbean you're getting all of that plus Johnny Rockets [milkshakes] which is a great perk," Elisa says.

"And for Celebrity Cruise Lines Premium drink package you're getting specialty coffees, teas, bottled water, mocktails."

So before booking, it's worth thinking how much you're actually going to drink and weighing up the costs.

Please drink responsibly. If you want to discuss any issues relating to alcohol in confidence, contact Drinkline on 0300 123 1110, 9am–8pm weekdays and 11am–4pm weekends for advice and support .

Carnival Cruise Line promises loyalty program changes

C ruise line loyalty programs drive repeat business and even a tiny change can outrage passengers. Royal Caribbean, for example, has to limit access to its Crown Lounges on select sailings when too many top-tier customers are onboard.

In most cases, you can't expand the lounge so on a President's Cruise, a special casino cruise, or a Transatlantic sailing, the cruise line has to limit access. That change only happens rarely and while people don't like not getting a perk they have earned, most are understanding.

Related: Why Carnival, Royal Caribbean don't offer key entertainment option

Permanent changes, however, can lead to passengers losing cherished benefits even if they gain others. Celebrity Cruises, a Royal Caribbean-owned brand, still shows on its website that certain higher levels of its casino loyalty program get access to its suite lounge. The problem is they don't and haven't for many years, but people who earn those levels and see the perk on the list are quite reasonably upset.

While Royal Caribbean has hinted at changes to its Crown & Anchor loyalty program, Carnival has shared that it's currently reevaluating its own. That means changes are coming, but before they do, the cruise line's brand ambassador, John Heald, both slapped back at some of his Facebook followers, and promised he would address their concerns.

Carnival made a loyalty pin change

Every cruise line's loyalty program has different tiers. Carnival's VIFP loyalty program starts at Blue on your first sailing and Red after that. At Gold passengers get a free bottle of water in their cabin.

You move up in tiers by sailing with points being awarded for nights cruised. Unlike Royal Caribbean's program, which offers more points for solo cruisers and suite passengers, Carnival's is one point per night no matter what.

The higher levels of the VIFP program, Gold and Platinum, come with a perk that many passengers like, a custom pin on each cruise. Those pins are "redeemable at the Photo Gallery no later than two days before the end of the cruise," Carnival shares on its website.

That's where some passengers took issue with the cruise line and Heald explained the policy.

"Before I open my eye pad on the plane to watch some downloaded episodes of 'Little House on Cleveland Prairie' and nibble on my $9 airport sandwich which has some pink meat in it I would like to say a little something to our fabulous Diamond and Platinum guests," he wrote. "The reason we ask Diamond and Platinum guests to collect their gift and pin from the Pixels gallery is because we have, in the past, found that people sometimes leave the pin and gift in the cabin. Plus it is what we have done since Covid."

Heald, it should be noted, never directly mentions brand names and is playful when he talks about what hotel he's staying in or, in this case, his tablet. He did push back on one charge.

"It is not a 'slap in the face for your loyal guests' to have to collect them rather than have them delivered. I read these comments now and then and the hostility behind the words posted is quite astonishing," he added.

Heald will ask the "beards"

The brand ambassador jointly calls Carnival's executives the "beards." It's meant as a term of endearment as the brand is led by its unbearded President Christine Duffy. Heald did promise to share the passenger feedback with his bosses, but stopped short of promising a change.

"Let’s see what we do when we announce the new loyalty program by the end of this year and I will ask if we can return to delivering anything we offer. No promises but I will try," he posted.

Nearly 2,000 people commented on Heald's post. Most were supportive.

"It’s all about perspective. When my sister in law got her status, I went with her and took pictures of her picking up her gift. We had fun with it. Just have fun, people. It is the fun ship," Melissa Dodd wrote.

Beth McDonald had a similary practical take on having to pick up the pin.

"I have no problem going to Pixels and getting my pin and gift. You probably walk by there several times a day. I love collecting my pins! I have found many uses for the gifts I get," she wrote.

Some of Heald's followers understand both points of view.

"It's not a big deal to pick these things up. It was just more special to walk into your cabin and see them waiting for you," posted Florence Thomsen Hobson.

"I can’t lie, I liked having it delivered but I also keep every pin and gift. So, I understand why the change was made, for Covid protocols and for eliminating waste. Besides, having to go get it gives me an excuse to leave the casino," added Laura K. Holiday.
