Celebrity Silhouette Cabins – Honest Reviews and Cabins to Avoid

If you are considering a cruise on the Celebrity Silhouette, you may be wondering which cabin to book and which to avoid. In this post, we will look at all cabin grades available onboard the Celebrity Silhouette, and I will share a review of the balcony cabin that I cruised in.

I recently stayed in a balcony cabin on the Celebrity Silhouette during a northern Europe cruise. I’m usually more of an inside cabin cruiser but the price increase wasn’t much, so I decided to treat myself.

What Cabins Are Available on The Celebrity Silhouette?

The Celebrity Silhouette has a range of interior, oceanview, balcony, and suite cabins available. All cabins contain a private bathroom, hairdryer, and safe. The cabins onboard the Celebrity Silhouette range in size from 17 metres squared to 119 metres squared and are able to accommodate up to 5 guests.

Solo interiors are also available for passengers cruising alone.

Regardless of cabin category, all cabins include:

  • Large Wardrobe, Additional Shelves.
  • A Minimum of One or Two Beds.
  • At Least One Chair/Sofa.
  • Safe (Free to Use).
  • Minibar (Cost For Items).

We will also look at cabins to avoid.

The Celebrity Silhouette was built for Celebrity in 2011. She has never sailed for any other cruise line.

The design of all cabins onboard the Celebrity Silhouette are very similar. The curved bed can be seen in all staterooms, apart from the solo cabins.

Inside cabins:

What are interior cabins on a cruise.

An interior cabin is a cabin that is located on the inside of a cruise ship. Interior cabins don’t have windows or any outside space. Interior cabins are also called ‘inside’ cabins and they are usually the cheapest cabin grade available on a cruise.

The main reason why cruisers book inside cabins is because of the cheap price but some people also book them because they enjoy the darkness that is gained by not having any windows.

If sharing a cabin with 2 or 3 people, it is likely that the 3rd and 4th guest will be sleeping on the sofa bed and on the Pullman bed that pulls down from the ceiling.

It can be quite a squeeze to share a cabin with 2 or 3 other people but it is doable. The drop down beds are most commonly used for children, although they do accommodate adults too. If you’re particularly tall your feet may hang off the end though!

I have shared a cabin with 3 other adults before, it isn’t ideal but for a short cruise it isn’t a problem.

How big are the inside cabins on the Celebrity Silhouette?

The inside cabins on the Celebrity Silhouette start at a size of 17 meters squared.

This is very big for an inside cabin, as the average inside cabin is 15.7 meters squared. This may not sound like a huge difference but some inside cabins are as small as 11 meters squared.

Inside Solo Cabins – Celebrity Silhouette

Celebrity do have cabins designed specifically for solo cruisers, all are inside cabins.

Solo cruisers are often hit hard with ‘solo supplements’ when they cruise. This means that a solo person may have to pay double the price of a person sharing with another passenger.

When a cruise line has solo cabins this effect is often reduced.

Why Do Solo Cruisers Have To Pay a Solo Supplement?

When cruising solo cruisers will often have to pay a ‘solo supplement’. This means that they pay more to stay in the cabin alone, than they would if they were sharing with another passenger.

This is not only to account for the lost revenue from not having another passenger in the cabin but also from losses in things like drink sales and casino spend.

When booking a solo cabin guests are given one price. This is usually more expensive than an inside cabin shared between two but is often cheaper than a solo cruiser having an inside cabin alone.

celebrity cruises solo inside cabin

Inside Solo Cabins – Design – Celebrity Silhouette

The design of the interior solo cabins is VERY similar to the standard inside cabins. The only difference is the slightly smaller size and the fact there is only one bed.

The bed is a large single.

The bathroom is exactly the same as found in the standard inside cabins.

Oceanview Cabins – Celebrity Silhouette

An oceanview cabin is very similar to an inside cabin but the cabin also has a window. This could be a large picture window or a small circular window.

The windows in oceanview cabins cannot be opened.

I rarely choose to stay in outside/oceanview cabins but have on occasion. If an oceanview cabin wasn’t much more expensive than an inside cabin I may consider it, but generally speaking, I’d upgrade to a balcony if I had extra money to spare.

The oceanview cabins are almost identical to the balcony cabins in size and layout. The only difference being the window instead of a balcony.

What Are Obstructed View Oceanview/Balcony Cabins?

Some oceanview and balcony cabins may have what is known as an ‘obstructed view’. An obstructed view simply means that there is something in the way of the window or balcony.

This could be a small piece of machinery below the balcony or to one side or it could mean that the cabins view is completely blocked.

The only way to get an obstructed view cabin is to specifically book an obstructed view cabin. When booking a ‘guaranteed’ cabin or any other cabin you will not be assigned an obstructed view.

An exception to this is if a guaranteed cabin is booked and the guest is upgraded.

A cruise line may place a guest who booked a ‘guaranteed’ inside cabin into an obstructed view balcony. To learn more about obstructed views, including why you should consider one, check out this post:

The Truth About Obstructed View Cabins – (Photo Examples & How to Find One)

Balcony Cabins – Celebrity Silhouette

The balcony cabin onboard the Celebrity Silhouette was one of the largest I’ve ever stayed in. The separate area with sofa was a bonus as we would often order room service (included in the cruise fare) and sit here to eat.

There was LOTS of storage in this cabin and it generally felt very comfortable.

How big is the balcony on Celebrity Silhouette?

Based on my experience of cruising in balcony cabins, I would say that the Celebrity Silhouettes was a standard size. I’ve definitely been on smaller balconies but been on larger too. There is more than enough space for multiple people to sit and enjoy a sail away.

If you are cruising with friends who are in the balcony next to you, ask your cabin steward to remove the barrier between the two balconies, this gives us a huge balcony which was amazing. I’ve done this in the past and it’s always been fun.

My Balcony Cabin on The Celebrity Silhouette:

Below is the video review that I filmed onboard the Celebrity Silhouette. During the video, I talk a little about the cruise in general and about what it is like to cruise with Celebrity.

Things I Loved About My Balcony Cabin:

  • The bed. It was big and very comfortable
  • The cabin had a LOT of storage space. A big wardrobe and multiple other drawers.
  • The sofa/desk area.

I have to admit I wasn’t a HUGE fan of the design. There was definitely nothing wrong with the design but it did feel a little outdated and I tend to prefer a more minimalistic look. That of course is just personal preference.

The Celebrity Silhouette went through a big refit in 2020 and it looks as though the cabins have been modernised.

The below video shows the new look design of the cabins. The basic design has remained the same, such as the position of the sofa and bed but the furnishings and colours have been updated.

Variations of Balcony Cabins

Aquaclass stateroom.

An AquaClass stateroom is similar in size and design to a balcony cabin but also includes the following perks:

  • Access to the thermal suite (complimentary)
  • An exclusive restaurant called Blu
Savor an exclusive menu that features clean, crisp flavors and inventive cuisine complemented by an extensive list of sustainable, biodynamic wines. Pair all of that with personalized service, inviting surroundings, and natural light, and you have the fresh and bold experience of Blu. Celebrity cruises – source
  • A complimentary fitness pass
  • Discounts on spa packages
  • Daily bottled water in the cabin
  • A yoga mat (for use on the cruise only)

There are a few little changes within the cabin itself, such as a cashmere matress and pillow menu but generally speaking the AquaClass staterooms are more about having access to the spa areas and exclusive restaurnts.

AquaClass staterooms are great for those who are health conscious and enjoy healthy food and exercise when cruising.

Concierge Class Stateroom

A concierge class stateroom is a balcony stateroom which comes with a few additional perks, these include:

  • A concierge service
  • Priority check-in
  • Exclusive events (Welcome lunch, destination seminars, etc)

Suites – Celebrity Silhouette

The Celebrity Silhouette has a range of suites available for guests looking for something a little extra.

All of the suites are located in an area of the ship called the retreat. Benefits of the retreat include:

  • Access to the Private Retreat Pool Deck
  • A Retreat Dedicated Restaurant
This private restaurant—open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—features a boldly elegant design as distinctive as its cuisine. Not only is the restaurant exclusive, but so are its menus. Celebrity cruises – source
  • A dedicated concierge
  • 24- hour butler
  • Lugage unpacking/packing
  • Welcome gifts

The below is a summary of the suites available.

Celebrity Silhouette Frequently Asked Questions:

Do the cabins on the celebrity silhouette have safes.

All cabins on the Celebrity Silhouette have safes. The safes are modern, free to use, and quite large. On arrival, guests will select a code for the safe, when disembarking the cruise the safe should be left empty and open ready for the next guest.

man using a safe

Which plug sockets are on the Celebrity Silhouette?

In each cabin onboard the Celebrity Silhouette has at least two US plug sockets and one European plug socket. There are no USB sockets in the cabins.

Make sure you pack adapters! This is one of the most common things for first-time cruisers tend to forget. You can find my full list of cruise essentials on the page here Cruise Essentials.

Do The Cabins on The Celebrity Silhouette have Irons?

None of the cabins on the Celebrity Silhouette have irons. There aren’t any ‘free to use’ laundries on Celebrity ships so your only option is to pay to have your clothes laundered.

I tend to just hang my clothes up in the bathroom when I have a shower and the steam usually makes the creases drop out. It’s magic! There are various wrinkle-release sprays you can buy too.

MSC Laundry Self Service Package

I see a LOT of people making mistakes when it comes to bringing things onboard that aren’t allowed, watch the video below to learn more:

Do The Cabins on The Celebrity Silhouette have Hairdryers?

All cabins on the Celebrity Silhouette have hairdryers. All hairdryers are relatively new and quite powerful.

I wouldn’t recommend bringing your own hairdryer on the Celebrity Silhouette, as the hairdryer on board is strong.

Do The Cabins on The Celebrity Silhouette have TVs?

All cabins on board the Celebrity Silhouette have TVs. Guests are also able to use the onboard TV to check their onboard account, as well as watching multiple TV channels. The daily schedule it also available on the TV.

Room service is free on Celebrity cruises and can be ordered using the TV. Below is a photo of the cookies I ordered through room service, mmm!

Celebrity Silhouette Cabins to Avoid

The following cabins to avoid were provided by guests who cruised on the Celebrity Silhouette.

I personally believe that there are no ‘bad’ cabins on cruise ships. Each cruise ship cabin is built in the same way and it’s only the location that changes.

That said if you are somebody who is sensitive to noise, the below cabins may be cabins to avoid.

Cabins to Avoid on The Celebrity Silhouette

Celebrity silhouette – cabins to avoid, deck 12.

Cabins towards the back of deck 12 are under the buffet.

Some cruisers staying in these cabins have reported noises of things like chairs being moved. This shouldn’t be a big problem, as the buffet isn’t open late into the night but it may be something to bear in mind.

If you’re a cruiser who frequently visits the buffet like me, this may be a good thing!

Celebrity Silhouette – Cabins to Avoid, Deck 11

The cabins in the middle of deck 11 are located under the main pool deck. This shouldn’t be a problem in the evenings as the pool is usually closed but during the day you may here some noise when sunloungers are moved around, particulrly if you are on your balcony.

If there is a sail away party and you are on your balcony, the sound here may travel.

I have stayed directly below the pool deck in locations like this before without any trouble, but I’m usually out and about during the day.

Celebrity Silhouette – Cabins to Avoid, Deck 6

Cabins at the front of deck 6 are located under the theatre.

If you like to go to bed early or have children this may be a section of the ship to avoid as sound sometimes does travel from the theatre shows.

I’m usually out in the evenings, so cabins in this type of location don’t worry me.

Penthouse Suites and Royal Suites

Penthouse suites.

The Celebrity Silhouette has two 1,291-square-foot Penthouse Suites (category PS), which were not available for viewing on our two-night preview cruise. However, these suites are the same size and have the same amenities as the Celebrity Solstice Penthouse Suites. Each Penthouse Suite has a huge, 389-square-foot veranda, which is twice as big as some of the inside cabins!

The Penthouse Suites have floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, separate living room with dining room table, baby grand piano, queen-sized sofa sleeper, full bar, lounge seating, surround-sound entertainment system with 52"-LCD television, full guest bath, and veranda with private outdoor whirlpool and lounge seating. Wouldn't you love to have your own private outdoor whirlpool overlooking the ocean? It's terrific.

The bedroom in the Penthouse Suites has a king-sized bed, a second 52"-LCD television, vanity, walk-in closet, marble master bath with whirlpool tub, separate shower with dual shower heads, double washbasins, and a third LCD television--but this one is only 26 inches. The suite also has a full guest bath.

All four Celebrity Silhouette suite types feature butler service, which includes:

  • Assistance with unpacking/packing
  • In-suite lunch & dinner service
  • In-suite afternoon tea service
  • Evening hors d'oeuvres
  • Complimentary espresso and cappuccino

The Penthouse Suites are found on Penthouse Deck 11.

These Sky Suites have floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, living room with queen sofa sleeper, mini-refrigerator, 40"-LCD television, vanity, bath with shower/tub combination and washbasin, and veranda with lounge seating.

Although the Sky Suites are very spacious, the sleeping area is not completely separate from the living area as it is in the higher priced suites. However, like the Penthouse Suites, Royal Suites, and Celebrity Suites, the Sky Suites do have butler service, which includes the following:

Twelve of the Sky Suites are found aft in the corners of decks six through twelve, the others are are Resort Deck 12.

These cabins have floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, sitting area with sofa convertible to trundle bed, a privacy partition, 32"-LCD television, separate master bedroom, second kids' room with bunk bed, and veranda with lounge seating. Since these cabins are forward, they also have nice forward-looking windows in the master bedroom and sitting area. Great cabin for a family of four where the parents want some privacy and the kids don't mind bunk beds.

AquaClass Cabin

The AquaClass cabins (category AQ) are on deck 11, close to the AquaSpa on deck 12 and the Relaxation Lounge on deck 11 of the Celebrity Silhouette. These cabins are double occupancy only and measure 194 square feet, with a 54 square-foot veranda. Like the other cabin categories that measure 194-square foot with a 54 square-foot-veranda, the Sunset Veranda cabins have floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, sitting area with sofa (some have trundle bed), 32"-LCD television, vanity, and veranda with lounge seating.

The Sunset Veranda cabins are found aft on the Continental deck 6, Sunrise deck 7, and Vista deck 8.

Deluxe Ocean View With Veranda and Ocean View

Deluxe ocean view cabin with veranda.

The Celebrity Silhouette has 723 Deluxe Ocean View Cabins with Verandas , making it (by far) the largest cabin type. These cabins are in Categories 1A, 1B, 1C, 2A, 2B, 2C, and 2D; the cabin category is dependent on deck and location. These cabins are spread over decks 9 through 12.

With 194 square feet and a 54 square-foot veranda, the Deluxe Ocean View Cabins with Veranda are identical in size to the AquaClass, Concierge, and Sunset cabins, with the price differences due to location and/or amenities. The cabins feature floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, sitting area with sofa, 32"-LCD television, vanity, and veranda with lounge seating. Some cabins have a trundle bed.

Ocean View Cabin

The 70 Ocean View cabins measure 177 square feet and are almost identical to those on the Celebrity Eclipse . None of these cabins were open on our Celebrity Silhouette preview cruise. They are in categories 07 and 08 and are found on the Plaza deck 3, Sunrise deck 7, and Vista deck 8.

The Ocean View cabins have a window, but no veranda. However, they do have all the basic amenities, including

Inside Cabins

The 143 Inside Cabins (categories 09, 10, 11, 12) on the Celebrity Silhouette range in size from 183 to 200 square feet and are found on Plaza deck 3 and on decks 7 through 11.

The Inside Cabins have no window or veranda. However, they do have all the basic amenities, including

Cruise Ship Review: Feeling Like a Celebrity Onboard the Silhouette!

This Celebrity Silhouette Review refers to our trip taken in May/June 2023 from Southampton to the Norwegian Fjords.

When we first started looking for our first ever cruise to visit the Norwegian Fjords, I had no idea what to look for in a cruise company. I popped “Norwegian Fjords Cruise” into my old friend Google and prepared to sift through the countless options. But Celebrity Cruises was one of the first that caught my eye. The itinerary, dates and price all seemed right. So I put away my planning notebook, closed the spreadsheet and took the plunge.

With no other cruise lines to compare to, we were able to enjoy the little Celebrity touches that made us feel special. And after a recent $75m refurbishment, this 12 year old ship felt as fresh as a daisy.

Cruise ship reflected in the waters of a Norwegian fjord

Easy Embarkation

Having travelled down to Southampton the day before, we only had to worry about travelling the short journey from a city Travelodge rather than facing the Bank Holiday traffic from Birmingham. Mr Fletche had booked parking at the port via  AB Parking ; around £120 for the week. We found the well-signposted car park easily and Mr Fletche was guided into a space by a host of staff. Within seconds of getting out of the car our suitcases were whisked away by porters, to be security-scanned and delivered to our stateroom. I worried about the seemingly flimsy luggage tags but they held firm throughout.

Having never cruised before, we were unsure what the check-in and embarkation process would entail. We had done most of the check-in admin on the Celebrity app beforehand. We’d uploaded photos for identification, answered all the health questions, and downloaded our boarding passes. A relay team of Celebrity Cruise staff handed us off from one member to another. We passed through security (similar to an airport), passport control and then finally onto the ship itself. Our selected check-in time was 12:30, but having arrived a little early (well, an hour early) we were pleasantly surprised to be onboard and gathered at our muster point to confirm safety guidance by midday. All in all, it took about half an hour from parking the car to stepping onboard. Much quicker than an airport!

We grab our Sea Passes from outside our State Room, and head straight to the Deck 14 Mast Bar for a glass of bubbly in the Southampton sunshine. Our check-in was easy, efficient, and a great start to our holiday!

Our Inside Stateroom

We decided not to splash out on a balcony cabin, which I do regret slightly as I ended up having to do a dishevelled dash outside for the early morning sail-ins, pulling on all my layers as I went. But at the same time, I enjoyed the camaraderie of the bleary-eyed 5:30am helipad sail-in to Olden . I just would have rather done it in my pyjamas. Our inside stateroom was a forward cabin on Deck 8, and I felt this was a great location as we experienced no noise from the public areas. Our closest elevators whisked us straight up to the Sky Lounge, or down to the Theatre. And close to our favourite lounging spot on sea days, the Hideaway.

Our stateroom was surprisingly roomy, with twin beds, a large wardrobe, a sofa (which naturally became a dumping ground for our clothes), flat-screen TV, a kettle for our morning cuppa, and a private bathroom. No windows meant no risk of sleep disturbance due to the late sunset/early sunrise; in fact our room was wonderfully dark. Celebrity actually have some of the largest inside cabins. The bathroom was small, but had a surprising amount of storage thanks to a glass-fronted wall-mounted shelf unit.

One thing that we wasn’t aware of beforehand was that – on Celebrity Silhouette anyway – odd number staterooms are on the port side of the ship, and even numbers on the starboard side. Which led to some confusion when trying to track down Ma and Pa Lee’s room.

Our Celebrity Silhouette inside stateroom

The waterfall in the bathroom

Of course, it’s not all perfect. Mr Fletche notices a drip from our shower on the day we arrive. Our ever helpful room attendant makes note and promises that maintenance will visit when we are out the next morning. We return from Bruges and maintenance have indeed been round. Where there was once a drip, there is now a veritable gush. A towel has handily been placed in the shower tray to “help”. The towel is now sodden. The ever helpful room attendant smiles and promises that maintenance will visit. I’m getting a faint sense of de ja vu. We came to Norway to see amazing bodies of water, but didn’t expect to have one pooling in our bathroom.

Mr Fletche seizes hold of the situation. We pay a visit to Guest Relations. He thrusts a video towards them of the now incessant deluge which has threatened to disturb two nights sleep. Guest Relations are very apologetic. Maintenance will pay a visit. Where have we heard that before? Thankfully, this time it is actually fixed. And we receive onboard credit (for a future cruise) as compensation.

Lounging Around

Sea days mean finding the perfect spot to relax and enjoy everything the Celebrity Silhouette has to offer. Our favourite spot was The Hideaway. I was particularly fond of the funky egg chairs where one could curl up and sleep like a little kitten. It’s also handy for Cafe Al Bacio for a takeaway coffee and an endless supply of cookies. Just below the Hideaway is the Library, another ideal spot for relaxing.

The Celebrity Silhouette has two huge swimming pools, one outdoors (surprisingly busy at all hours considering we were sailing into increasingly cooler temperatures) and an incredible indoor solarium which is beautifully lit at night. Each lounger had a carefully folded towel, and there were plenty of areas where you could grab as many towels as you need.

There’s plenty of comfy outdoor seating, not only the loungers around the pool deck but particularly around the Sunset Bar. Sadly, a Norwegian cruise means that the weather isn’t always suitable for al fresco relaxation.

Cafe Al Bacio

This coffee shop and gelateria became one of our favourite spots. Not least because there were always complimentary cookies and decadent desserts available. I highly recommend the sugar-free peanut butter cookies if you’re trying to practice a little restraint in between meals. With our Classic package (see more about this below) most coffees and teas were included. Including somewonderful “Speciality” coffees, with a little added alcoholic extra.

There’s a second Bacio in the Oceanview Cafe which is perfect for a takeaway coffee on those early morning sail-ins.

Dining Around

Of course, you all want to hear about the food right? And it didn’t disappoint on the Celebrity Silhouette. From the main dining room to the more casual vibe of the Oceanview Café, and the al fresco Mast Grill for excellent burgers, there was always so much choice without paying for any of the specialist dining options. There’s even complimentary room service (tray fee of $9.95 applies).

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

Oceanview Cafe

We tended to stick to the buffet at the Oceanview Cafe for breakfast and lunch – and even one evening when we fancied something a little more casual. Honestly, it was one of the best buffet selections I’ve ever seen, and I don’t think I opted for the same thing twice. Cuisine from all around the world was showcased, and I can’t imagine anyone not finding something delicious. Vegetarians and vegans were catered for, and there was a large sugar-free/gluten-free choice which were certainly not taste-free. The Oceanview is also open between main mealtimes for snacks, and there’s even a late-night buffet if you get the munchies! It was sometimes a challenge to find a seat, and we often found ourselves walking round two or three times. But buffets tend to have a quick turnaround so we never had to wait too long.

The Grand Cuvee Main Dining Room

Our main dining room was the Grand Cuvee with it’s entrance on Deck 3. We were surprised on the first night to find a huge queue outside at our allotted 8:30pm dining time. Once the doors were opened, each group of passengers were shown to the table which would be theirs for the entire cruise. Our table was in the very first section so we missed out on sitting under the sparkling chandelier but it was a great location. We were a table away from the window, but this table was only occupied once during the week so I felt like we almost always have uninterrupted sea views whilst eating.

There was a different a la carte menu each night, although some classic dishes remained on the menu throughout. I enjoyed sampling different foods and almost every dish was delicious. We dined at the Grand Cuvee on five out of the seven nights onboard.

Speciality Dining ($)

There are a number of other speciality restaurants onboard the Celebrity Silhouette. These can be booked pre-cruise, or reservations can be made onboard. They do book up quickly though so pre-booking is recommended. The restaurants range from fine dining to specialist cuisines like sushi or French – there’s even the immersive Le Petit Chef which has 3D animated characters dancing around your plate!

Mr Fletche and I sadly missed out on booking a romantic dinner for two at The Porch seafood restaurant, but as a family we enjoyed an Italian steakhouse feast at the Tuscan Grille. It was definitely the nicest meal we had and would have been worth a splurge even if we hadn’t been able to use our onboard credit. My only complaint would be how dark the restaurant was, despite been at the aft of the ship with huge windows – dark wood and low lighting made reading the menu difficult for aging eyes!

Our Classic Drinks Package

Each bar had it’s own drinks menu, which could also be found on the Celebrity app. Some of the offerings and prices do change bar by bar, which is worth knowing if you want to stick to drinks within your package. When you purchase a drink from the bar, you hand over your SeaPass and this is logged on your account.

We included the Classic Beverage Package when we booked, giving us access to soft drinks, tea, coffee and non-premium brand alcoholic drinks (including cocktails) up to $12. We would often have a premium package drink ($12+); the difference is added to your account to settle at the end of the cruise. Bottles of wine aren’t included, but there is a discount. Prices are shown on the bar menu but it doesn’t indicate what drinks fall within your package; the bar staff usually let us know where they might be an additional charge.

There is a Premium Package which includes all drinks, but we found the Classic was perfect for us. If you decide not to opt for a drinks package, you will find that prices are expensive. I never worked out drink by drink what we would have spent to see whether it would have been value for money purchasing the package but I liked the freedom of not having to worry about that bar bill at the end of the cruise.

This helpful blog post from Emma Cruises has a full list of what’s included in the Classic Drinks Package on Celebrity Silhouette. Emma was my go-to resource on all things cruise-related!

The Celebrity Silhouette has a theatre which spans three decks at the front of the ship. I imagined the entertainment would be a bit “holiday camp” (no disrespect – we’ve seen some ace holiday camp entertainment). Which meant that I wasn’t prepared for the sheer professionalism of some of the shows. We gave the magician a swerve as that’s not our bag, but the two shows which featured talented aerobatics were an absolute thrill, and there was an excellent rock/musical theatre band called Rebel that I would have paid good money to see. In fact they went down so well with the audience that they put on a second unscheduled show later in the week.

A cruise ship theatre

There are 12 bars and lounges scattered around the Celebrity Silhouette. Our favourite bar was the mid-deck Passport Bar on Deck 3 – handy for the main dining room and the entertainment in the Grand Foyer. The Sunset Bar on Deck 12 is perfect when the weather is fine. And we spent a lot of time in the Sky Lounge. It has a whiff of social club during the day. And office Christmas party by night. Everyone gives everyone else the side eye the next morning at the breakfast buffet, wondering how much they embarrassed themselves on the dance floor the night before.

Silence is golden

And we can’t talk about the dancefloor without talking about the silent disco. There were two silent disco events during our cruise. The first was held in the aforementioned Sky Lounge. We didn’t participate that night, although it was lots of fun playing “Guess the Song” from the tuneless strains belted out by our fellow guests. The second event was held in the Grand Foyer; this time I made sure we were all headphoned up to the hilt. I wasn’t a fan of the green channel which seemed to be playing primarily Ed Sheeran, but I flicked between the funk/disco/80s blue channel and the more dancey red channel. Did I sing like no-one could hear me? Yes, I did. After all, I have the voice of an angel. If you’ve never taken part in a silent disco I can thoroughly recommend.

The Celebrity Silhouette also has a cinema which doubles up as a comedy venue. And we soon found ourselves $20 down, lured in by the flashing lights of the casino. We found the table minimums to be quite high for us casual gamblers, so we didn’t get to recreate that winning feeling that we had (briefly) in Vegas .

A little bit about the Celebrity Silhouette

Compared to some cruise ships, the Celebrity Silhouette is relatively small, taking just under 3000 passengers. I think all of them may have been in the queue at the buffet. She’s 12 years old, but went through a major refurbishment in 2020, bringing a few more up-to-date modifications. She’s sophisticated, but not stuffy. A little like me. Playful, rather than pretentious.

Celebrity Cruises are actually the sister brand to Royal Caribbean, but Celebrity focuses on smaller ships, retaining the luxury, almost akin to a floating boutique hotel. It’s a child-friendly ship but Celebrity Silhouette feels like’s aimed at adults rather than families. There’s plenty of nightlife but it’s not party central. In fact the on-board “nightclub” Quasar never seemed to have anyone in it. Or maybe we were just too early to bed to appreciate it.

The little Celebrity Silhouette touches

From the moment we stepped onboard I was impressed by all the little luxury touches. The thoughtful little gifts. The chocolate on the pillow. The hot chocolate served as we returned to the ship after a day onshore. And is that a real tree growing in the atrium? Apparently so. And it’s also real grass on the top deck, although sadly its a restricted area for those purchasing a cabana for the day. Who’d have thought that a cruise ship would have to employ gardeners on their crew?

We opted for an inside stateroom; we were located on Deck 8 towards the front of the ship on the portside. The basic stateroom cost was £898.00 per person. We added on the “All-Included” package, which includes the Classic Beverage Package, wi-fi on one device per guest and all gratuities – all things which can easily add up quickly on a cruise. This took our total to £1488pp. Celebrity were offering a heavy discount on the second guest which meant that our total for two was £1994.00.

Our booking also included $100 onboard credit per person. I’ll be honest, I had no idea what that meant before we boarded; however if we had pre-booked any ship excursions then we could have used our credit to purchase. We used our credit mainly on drinks that weren’t included on our Classic Beverage Package, and for a meal at one of the speciality dining restaurants. None of us spent over our $100 credit so there was no bill for us to settle at the end of the cruise!

Final thoughts

If Celebrity cruise ships are my benchmark, then future cruises are going to have a very high bar to beat. Every single aspect of the cruise exceeded expectations, not least the Celebrity Silhouette herself. From the exceptional food and excellent entertainment and activities programme, to the surprisingly spacious stateroom and impeccable staff, everything about the Silhouette was wonderfully shipshape.

Everything you need to know about Celebrity Cruises cabins and suites

Ashley Kosciolek

In keeping with the ambiance on Celebrity Cruises ' vessels, the brand's accommodations offer an elevated experience without going full-on luxury. That means Celebrity's passengers can expect more sophisticated surroundings and an upscale vibe at relatively affordable prices.

Like the vessels themselves, the line's cabins are well-appointed and elegant, with modern touches that appeal to a slightly younger-than-average cruise demographic.

Learn what to expect from each room type before you book with our primer for those who are new to Celebrity.

Celebrity Cruises cabin primer

Celebrity Cruises' fleet of ships includes more than a dozen vessels that fall into four main categories : Millennium Class, Solstice Class, Edge Class and Galapagos Class. Ships in the first three classes share similarities in terms of their cabin offerings. The Galapagos-class vessels are much smaller and include a narrower selection of cabin types and amenities. Because of this, the Galapagos Class will have its own section below; the other sections of this article do not apply to the Galapagos Class.

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

Although all of the ships' staterooms fall into the same general categories – insides, oceanviews, balconies and suites – the specific types of each vary across classes, particularly with regard to the most expensive options.

Even at the most basic level, nearly all accommodations include two twin beds that can be connected to form a king (most rooms) or queen; a desk and vanity area with a chair, drawers and a phone; nightstands with drawer space and reading lights; a sofa or plush chair; a coffee table; an in-cabin bathroom with shampoo, conditioner, body wash and towels; a closet with shelves, hanging space and bathrobes; a safe; a hair dryer; a television with a selection of movies and live TV, as well as shipboard channels and the ability to check the daily schedule and your onboard bill; a mini-fridge; a selection of outlets, including USB ports; and individual lighting and climate controls.

All cabins also come with the services of a room attendant, who will tidy your digs up to two times daily. All passengers also have access to 24-hour room service, which carries a fee of $9.95 per order, plus an 18% auto-gratuity.

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

Across the fleet, all ships offer connecting rooms, with some of the largest suites joining to sleep up to 10 people. The line also features special accommodations for solo cruisers on a small number of its vessels (specifics are noted below under applicable cabin categories).

Further, all ships offer several accessible accommodations across all main stateroom categories (except Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Reflection, which do not offer accessible standard balcony cabins) for passengers needing extra space for wheelchairs, walkers and scooters. Those cabins feature wider (32-inch) doorways, a 5-foot turning radius, ramped bathroom thresholds, bathroom grab bars, lowered sinks and vanities, higher toilets, roll-in showers with fold-down benches, hand-held showerheads, lowered closet bars and accessible balconies (in select staterooms).

Unless otherwise noted, all cabins are designed for double occupancy. In most cases, solo travelers staying in accommodations meant for two people will be charged an additional cruise fare, known as a single supplement. Further, some staterooms are outfitted with trundle beds, pull-down bunks or sofa beds that can accommodate up to four people per room.

Inside cabins on Celebrity ships

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

Inside cabins on Celebrity ships run anywhere from 170 to 202 square feet, and they offer everything mentioned above. The one thing they don't have is a view.

As is implied by their name, they have no windows and no balconies for natural light or fresh air. These are stellar options for anyone on a budget or travelers who have trouble sleeping with any sort of light.

Celebrity Silhouette has four inside cabins available for solo travelers.

RELATED: 6 reasons to book an inside cabin

Oceanview cabins on Celebrity ships

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

Oceanview cabins on Celebrity ships come in at between 170 and 242 square feet, depending on the ship and type.

True to their name, these rooms offer views of the ocean from windows that don't open, so although there are no in-cabin ocean breezes, there is natural light.

They include all of the basic amenities listed above.

Balcony cabins on Celebrity ships

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

There are several veranda categories available throughout the Celebrity fleet, all of which offer traditional balcony setups. Types include basic balcony cabins (170 to 202 square feet, 38- to 53-square-foot balcony), Family Verandas (270 to 575 square feet, 106- to 242-square-foot balcony) that sleep a larger number of people and Sunset Verandas (194 to 228 square feet, 53- to 89-square-foot balcony) that offer aft views of the ship's wake.

The vessels also offer AquaClass and Concierge Class digs, which are essentially basic balcony accommodations with some extras. The former focuses on wellness and comes with free fitness classes, unlimited access to the onboard spa's thermal suite, dining at exclusive health-focused restaurant Blu, a healthier room service menu, daily bottled water, upgraded toiletries, discounts on spa packages and yoga mats for in-cabin use. The latter entitles cruisers to amenities like dedicated concierge services, as well as an exclusive luncheon, daily in-room canapes and sparkling wine on request.

Basic amenities are included, but what really sets these accommodations apart is that they provide cruisers with private access to ocean air – no need to venture to a public deck.

Infinite Veranda

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

As with standard balcony cabins, Infinite Verandas – which are only found on ships in the line's Edge Class – come with the basic amenities listed above, but they also grant a bit more interior space (202 square feet) in lieu of the usual walk-out terrace.

They earn their own category here because, as those who book the accommodations will find, instead of a traditional balcony, they have a window that can be raised and lowered with the push of a button. A set of see-through folding doors allows the area near the window to be cordoned off in order to make it feel like a more traditional balcony.

RELATED: 6 reasons to stay in a balcony cabin

Celebrity's three newest vessels each have several Infinite Veranda solo cabins for cruisers traveling by themselves. Celebrity Edge has 16, and Celebrity Apex offers 24, while Celebrity Beyond boasts 32. They offer 131 to 184 square feet of space with 42- to 45-square-foot interior balcony areas.

Suites on Celebrity ships

There are 10 types of suites on Celebrity's ships, four of which – Sky Suites, Celebrity Suites, Royal Suites and Penthouse Suites – appear on every single ship in the fleet. Two more – Edge Villas and Iconic Suites – are found only on Edge-class vessels. Another two, Signature Suites and Reflection Suites, are exclusive to Celebrity Reflection, and the remaining Sunset Suites and AquaClass Suites are new to the fleet with the debut of Celebrity Beyond.

Passengers booked in any of the suites in this category have access to the exclusive suites-only lounge and pool deck, known as The Retreat, as well as dining in suite-access-only restaurant Luminae.

RELATED: 7 reasons to splurge on a cruise ship suite

Cruisers in these accommodations also receive a slew of perks, including higher-level Wi-Fi and drink packages (upgraded from the free ones that come with all fares); onboard credit; prepaid gratuities; free in-room bottles of alcohol; complimentary laundry, shoeshine, butler and concierge services; and priority embarkation and tendering, among other draws.

An explanation of each type of suite can be found below.

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

These are the smallest suites in the fleet, ranging from 251 to 362 square feet with balconies that range from 57 to 163 square feet. They're arranged in a studio configuration, similar to what you'd find in non-suite cruise-ship accommodations. They're the least expensive option for those who crave access to suite-level amenities.

Celebrity Suites

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

For cruisers wanting the step up their square footage or storage space, a Celebrity Suite will do the trick. Expect 394 to 498 square feet, plus a balcony between 51 and 105 square feet, complete with separate living and bedroom spaces, a sizeable bathroom (with a bathtub/shower combo) and tons of drawers and cabinets to help chronic overpackers stow their belongings.

For an even bigger upgrade, Royal Suites come in at between 538 and 687 square feet with verandas measuring 72 to 195 square feet. Each has ample storage, separate lounging and sleeping quarters, and a generously sized bathroom with a shower and separate soaking tub that's perfect for relaxing after a day in port.

Penthouse Suites

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

Penthouse suites are the largest accommodations found fleetwide, ranging from 1,291 to 1,432 square feet with 197- to 1,098-square-foot verandas that are large enough for their own private hot tubs. The two-bed, two-bath setup with a separate sitting area and dining table that seats eight, makes these cabins great for entertaining or sharing with travel companions.

Edge Villas

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

These two-deck suites offer an upstairs-and-downstairs setup with one bedroom, two bathrooms, and a living room in 739 square feet of space. There's also a 211-square-foot balcony. These rooms are exclusive to the line's Edge Class of ships, and they boast access to a private plunge pool.

Iconic Suites

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

Iconic Suites -- which are in high demand, due to their limited numbers and plethora of extras -- are the largest on Edge-class vessels, offering 1,892 square feet, a nearly 689-square-foot balcony (larger than most staterooms onboard, complete with a private hot tub and daybed), a bathroom with dual sinks and a whirlpool tub, and an unparalleled forward-facing view from directly above the bridge.

Signature Suites

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

While Signature Suite accommodations are on the smaller side, at 441 square feet, the 118-square-foot balcony still manages to include an outdoor tub with a rain shower so you can soak while taking in the views as you sail. They also include high ceilings, a shower/tub combo, and separate living and sleeping areas.

Reflection Suites

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

At nearly four times the size of Signature Suites, Reflection Suites come equipped with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a cantilevered glass shower that hangs out over the ocean for simply amazing views. All of this fits neatly into 1,636 square feet of space, plus a 194-square-foot balcony. Dual sinks, a separate soaking tub with a rain shower, high ceilings, a walk-in closet, and a prime corner location round out the opulent offerings. These suites are only slightly smaller than Iconic Suites, but their verandas are far tinier.

Sunset Suites

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

Similar to the wake-view concept behind the line's Sunset Veranda staterooms, Sunset Suites provide an elevated experience with the same stunning vistas at each ship's aft. Some of these suites are on the smaller side, comprising 296 to 575 square feet, plus a 53- to 242-square-foot balcony, but they do incorporate separate living and sleeping areas, making them feel more like true suites.

AquaClass Sky Suites

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

These rooms combine the space and enhanced extras of a Sky Suite (including access to The Retreat and Luminae) with the perks of an AquaClass cabin – fitness classes, thermal suite access, dining at Blu, daily bottled water, discounts on spa packages and yoga mats for in-cabin use – to bring passengers a more health-centric suite experience in 319 square feet with a 79-square-foot veranda.

Cabins on Celebrity's Galapagos-class ships

Because Celebrity's expedition vessels are much smaller, they warrant their own section. What follows is a breakdown of the cabin types – most of which are suites – offered on each ship.

Note that Celebrity Flora, Celebrity Xpedition and Celebrity Xploration have neither The Retreat nor Luminae, so suite passengers do not have access to those venues. Amenities also may vary from those offered on the fleet's non-expedition ships.

Celebrity Flora

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

The largest of Celebrity's expedition vessels, Celebrity Flora houses 50 cabins with a double-occupancy capacity for 100 passengers. All staterooms are classified as suites, with a mix of several types of Sky Suites, including some with Infinite Verandas (330 to 365 square feet, 65- to 86-square-foot balcony); Royal Suites (559 square feet, 129-square-foot balcony); and Penthouse Suites (1,288 square feet, 321-square-foot balcony).

Celebrity Xpedition

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

Significantly smaller is Celebrity Xpedition, which can carry 48 passengers across 24 cabins at capacity. Availability includes 160-square-foot oceanview accommodations; 175-square-foot Junior Suites with 45-square-foot verandas; and a combination of suites – Xpedition Suites, Royal Suites and Penthouse Suites – that run the gamut from 205 to 460 square feet with balconies ranging from 50 to 235 square feet. Given that Penthouse Suites on the line's other ships span 1,291 to 1,432 square feet with 197- to 1,098-square-foot verandas, it's easy to see that suite sizes decrease as ship sizes decrease.

Celebrity Xploration

celebrity cruise silhouette cabin reviews

The tiniest and most no-frills option on Celebrity's roster is Celebrity Xploration, which carries just 16 people in eight cabins at its maximum. Oddly, all staterooms are labeled as Junior Suites, but while half of them have balconies (180 square feet with 245-square-foot verandas), the other half (190 square feet) don't. It's also interesting to note that, in the ones that do have them, the balconies boast significantly more space than the interior living area does.

Bottom line

Celebrity's selection of basic cabins is fairly standard. However, when it comes to suites, passengers have a decent number of choices, and even the smallest and least expensive options offer coveted amenities and access to dedicated spaces.

Although there are suite types that span the entire fleet, the line likes to create experiences that are exclusive to some of its newest classes and ships.

Celebrity is one of the best big-ship cruise brands when it comes to everything from service and extras to in-cabin storage space, decor and even furniture layout. Overall, the line offers an upscale ambiance with a lot of value for your money, starting with inside cabins and running right up through accommodations at the suite level.

Pretty Good Ship

Apr 14th, 2024

Went on a Tampa Bay Bucs cruise with my 20 yr old son that was organized by the team. Embarkation went super smooth. The ship was very nice and clean for the most part. The best part about the trip was how the ship felt like it was half full. We never had a problem getting a pool chair, an elevator, or a seat in the buffet. We ate in the dining room one night and I found the service to be super slow and the food to be mediocre at best. The buffet was a better experience so we had two dinners up there. We also did one night at the Tuscan grille and it was fantastic. Our cabin was nice and the beds were comfortable. Plenty of closet and storage space. The bathroom was a nice size especially the shower. My only complaint was the lack of power outlets as there were only a couple at the desk. Missed not having any by the beds. Also, they could do a better job cleaning the balcony as there was some debris along the edges. Our stateroom attendant was great. The casino was fun but drink service was nonexistent. I had to call over the pit boss a few times to get a server but none would come. Drink service at the pool was nonexistent as well. All in all a good ship.

I booked my family and we enjoyed dinnertime together as well as fun and games

Great time with friends.

Apr 7th, 2024

We went with a group, all of us in The Retreat. Had a good time as the ship is clean/re-freshed (mostly), and the service was outstanding.

We had a very restful trip!

The ships employees are the best. Always friendly and willing to lend a hand.

Mar 28th, 2024

Loved to be able to do the B2B. The cruise was just what we needed at the end of winter.

Route changed the evening we boarded the ship didn’t get to go to key west and the stop that was added instead was awful

I am disappointed not to go to key west. If I wanted to go just to the Bahamas I would have booked just a Bahamas cruise. I would like a refund as the excursion that we had booked for our family at key west was credited to our room and had to be used before the end of the cruise or lose it

wonderful ship, terrible weather

The celebrity crew are friendly and did a great job keeping everyone entertained and happy. The weather was terrible and they handled it well.

Disney Cruise crew member accused of child porn possession — third arrested on similar charges this year

Tirso neri, 44, was charged with possession of child pornography and transportation of child pornography.

A Disney Cruise Line worker was arrested on child pornography charges, the third crew member at the cruise company to face allegations of child porn this year.

Tirso Neri, 44, of the Philippines, was a crew member on the Disney Dream ship.

U.S. Border Control and Homeland Security agents arrested Neri on Monday after discovering he had on his phone sexually explicit images and videos of children as young as 9 years old, according to a criminal complaint, Local 10 News reported.

The investigation into Neri began on Dec. 18 after agents boarded the Disney Dream ship when it arrived at the Port Everglades port in Fort Lauderdale, Florida , from the Bahamas and searched Neri's cabin.

Tirso Neri

Two phones in Neri's possession were confiscated by agents, who discovered "numerous sexually explicit photographs and videos of young children whose ages could not be definitely determined," the complaint states.

It was later revealed that Neri had a folder on a device with the name of a minor victim. The folder contained several explicit photos and videos of the minor, as well as a photo of her Philippines passport that revealed her date of birth, which confirmed she was 17 years old at the time the material was taken.

Neri told officers at Port Everglades that he downloads adult pornography and purchases links containing the explicit content from different group chats on Telegram and Facebook Messenger.

He claimed he received the folder with the images and videos of the 17-year-old girl from one of the group chats and saved it to his phone without looking to see what it contained.

However, a forensic review of his phone later determined that the images were saved and viewed by the phone's user.

Other videos later found on Neri's phone allegedly show a boy, between the ages of 10 and 12, engaging in sex with a girl between the ages of 12 and 14 and a young girl naked with a man along with the text "9 years old delicious" written in Filipino across the screen.

"In accordance with our zero-tolerance policy for this kind of alleged behavior, this individual is no longer with the company," the spokesperson said in a statement.

Two other Disney Cruise Line employees — 49-year-old Alvin Gonzales and 28-year-old Amiel Trazo — were each arrested and charged in January with felony possession of child pornography. Gonzales and Trazo are also from the Philippines and worked aboard the Disney Dream.
