A few complaints

Purchased mines in 2021 brand new My daughter fell in love with it because she saw the 3rd row. She rode the 3rd row twice in 2 years. She said it’s too small and not comfortable. She loves the reclining back seats. I have found a few black pieces on the inside of the truck on the floor but don’t know where they detached from. The rear view camera is small and has worked my nerves. 98% of the time it’s upside down. Other than that I’ve enjoyed it

The only available engine for the Journey is an underpowered four-cylinder that struggles to bring the vehicle up to speed. Additionally, the automatic transmission hesitates to downshift.

The Journey provides a mostly gentle ride, but the SUV feels unwieldy around turns and suffers from a lot of body lean. Furthermore, the steering is imprecise and requires frequent corrections. All-wheel drive is not available.

How Many Child Car Seats Fit in the 2020 Dodge Journey?

This Dodge has two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the second-row outboard seats. The second-row middle seat has a lower anchor and a tether, plus the ability to borrow a lower anchor from the passenger-side seat. There are no tethers for the third row.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave this LATCH system the second-lowest rating of Marginal for its ease of use. The tethers are hard to find and easily confused for other hardware, the middle anchor is hard to maneuver around, and the driver-side lower anchors are set deeply in the seats.

What's New for 2020?

Dodge cuts down the number of available trims on the Journey from three to just two for 2020: the SE Value and the Crossroad. The other notable cuts are the absence of all-wheel drive and the optional V-6 engine that were paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The only powertrain available is now the antiquated 172-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder that is paired to a four-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. Buyers can look forward to the addition of standard rear park assist to all models as well as a standard sunroof for the Crossroad trim level. Dodge also streamlines the option-picking process with the introduction of the Popular Equipment Group which bundles many features together, depending on trim level. In the SE Value trim, the package gives you a six-way power-adjustable driver's seat, Uconnect with Voice Command and Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, three-zone climate control, security alarm, and a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel. The Crossroad's Popular Equipment Group adds a universal garage door opener, remote start, heated front seats and steering wheel, navigation, and a six-speaker sound system with a subwoofer. Dodge has announced that the Journey will finally come to an end after the 2020 model year.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2020 Dodge Journey starts at $25,170 and goes up to $30,090 depending on the trim and options.

With the absence of the V-6 and all-wheel drive for 2020, the rental-fleet-inspired SE Value version is our pick from the Journey lineup. With minimal options to choose from and minimal value added from the Popular Equipment Group at this level, we'd skip everything and stick with the bare-bones Journey.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Journey SE and Crossroad trims come with an underpowered four-cylinder engine that's best avoided—except you can't, since the V-6 is no longer offered. The 172-hp engine is woefully underpowered and the four-speed automatic transmission that's reluctant to downshift further dulls its real-world performance.

There are not many three-row crossovers that are entertaining to drive, so their ride and handling are graded on a curve. Even so, the Journey's ponderous handling and unresponsive transmission leave it far from getting a good rating from us. It wallows in corners with lots of body roll and imprecise steering. The benefit of this softness, however, is a comfortable ride on the freeway.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The four-cylinder engine has the worst EPA ratings among competitors with similar powertrains, with 19 mpg in city driving and 25 mpg on the highway. By comparison, the 2019 Honda CR-V is rated at 26 city and 32 mpg on the highway, while the 2019 Toyota C-HR is rated at 27/31.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Journey's interior is far from upscale, but its simple controls are user-friendly. Getting anyone to fit in the third row—even children—requires those in the second row to compromise their legroom. Cheap-feeling bits such as a plasticky shifter and hollow-sounding interior door-trim panels are especially egregious on the priciest version. Several luxury features including a power-adjustable passenger seat, cooled seats, and heated rear seats are notable in their absence from the options list.

Practicality is one of the few areas where the Journey shines: its interior is easily configurable and it has tons of cubby storage for odds and ends, even if its total cargo capacity isn't as large as some competitors. You can fold down the 50/50-split third row and the 60/40-split second row to expand the available cargo space, although the Journey offers the least amount of total cargo space of the vehicles in this class. In addition to the expected compartments in and around the console, there's also a generously sized bin under the front-passenger seat cushion, as well as two large underfloor compartments in the second row.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Although every model features an easy-to-use touchscreen, the system has fewer features than many other Dodge products. Likewise, the larger screen is responsive, but we wish Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability were offered here. There's also only a single USB port up front—not great for the device-happy spawn likely to inhabit the back seats.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Journey's lackluster safety report card reveals that it's not the best choice when it comes to sheltering your precious onboard cargo. Its crash-test results are not great, and—what's worse—it offers none of the advanced driver-assistance technology that is expected in other family haulers. The only available safety feature is rear parking sensors.

Hybrids are the best of both worlds. Without the need to plug in, like with a full-electric car, range anxiety fears are minimized. But, you can still expect to receive better fuel economy than with a fully gas-powered vehicle. If fuel economy and value are important to you and you want to have a positive impact on the environment, there's a hybrid for that. Let us show you the best small hybrid cars that will suit your lifestyle.

1) 2024 Ford Maverick

Price: $25,410 EPA-Estimated fuel economy: 37 MPG combined

The Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid is a city-friendly small truck that packs a 2.5 liter, four-cylinder with an electric motor assist. Going from 0-60 in 7.7 secs feels plenty peppy to power you through wherever you need to go. It also comes equipped with pre-wired 12-volt electrical leads and 2-110V outlets. This versatile little rig checks all the boxes for a great light off-roading adventure truck and a great commuter vehicle.

2) 2024 Honda CR-V

Price: $30,580EPA-Estimated fuel economy: 40 MPG combined

The Honda CR-V has been one of Honda’s best sellers since debuting in 1997. Still continuing its success 27 years later, Honda struck gold twice when the hybrid version was introduced in 2022. Three different trim options are available in the front-wheel, 2.0-liter, four-cylinder compact SUV. The CR-V Sport Hybrid, Sport L-Hybrid, and Sport Touring Hybrid all come powered with 2 electric motors capable of producing 204 hp, and can tow up to 1000 lbs. With an impressive EPA rating of 43 mpg city / 34 mpg highway (AWD), there’s no end in sight when Honda's winning streak will end.

3) 2024 Toyota Prius

Price: $23,045EPA-Estimated fuel economy: 52 MPG combined

With its recent major redesign, the Toyota Prius can finally sit at the cool kid's hybrid lunch table next to the other cars that have good looks and good mpg scores. The FWD option reigns in 194 hp and EPA bragging rights with 52 mpg combined. What’s even better is the warranty covers all hybrid components for 8 years, or 100,000 miles. So... are you going to eat that pudding cup?

4) 2024 Toyota Prius Prime

Price: $37,070EPA-Estimated fuel economy: 48 MPG combined, gasoline+electric 114 MPGe, EV range 39 miles

The goofy hatchback of the old Prius days is now long gone, and the glow-up is real. The head-turning Toyota Prius Prime could be the game changer for PHEVs.

The two electric motors, combined with a four-cylinder gas engine, will have you gliding from 0 to 60 in only 6.7 seconds. Driving in pure EV mode will get you up to 44 miles, quite respectable for a PHEV. However, teamwork really makes the dream work. When driving with the gas and electric together, the EPA estimates that the Prius Prime will get 50 mpg city and 47 mpg highway. For those of us who are on the fence about driving an EV, or those of us who still want a cool-looking car with great fuel economy… ding, ding, ding, jackpot.

5) 2024 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

Price: $27,400 EPA-Estimated fuel economy: 54 MPG (combined, Hybrid Blue), 50 MPG (combined Hybrid Limited)

The exceptionally fuel-efficient Hyundai Elantra has been a staple in Hyundai’s lineup for decades. The hybrid version comes in the Elantra Hybrid Blue, and the Elantra Hybrid. Both come equipped with a 1.6-liter, inline 4 which the EPA says can pump out between 50 to 54 mpg combined. Roomier cabin and trunk space compared to its competitors is also a plus. It serves as a great entry hybrid for the driver needing a very practical and efficient source of transportation.

6) 2024 Kia Niro

Price: $ 28,315EPA-Estimated fuel economy: 49 MPG combined (base model). 47 MPG combined, gasoline + electric 108 MPGe, EV range 33 miles (PHEV)

The metamorphosis of the Kia brand continues as it spreads its wings and shows its true colors. The contemporary design of the Niro's interior and exterior keeps Mother Earth in mind by using sustainable materials like eucalyptus leaves for seating material. The second-generation Niro is available in both hybrid and plug-in hybrid form with an abundant number of options. The PHEV adds an additional boost from its powerful motor making 180 hp and an acceptable 0-60 in 7.3 seconds, and can soar from 50 to 70 in just 5 seconds.

7) 2024 Lexus NX Hybrid

Price: $44,615EPA-Estimate fuel economy: 39 MPG combined (NX 350h). 36 MPG, gasoline + electric 84 MPGe, EV range 37 miles (PHEV, NX 450h+)

If compact luxury and speed are more your style, the Lexus NX has plenty to offer. Delivering both hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, the top-of-the-line plug-in hybrid NX450h+ has a spirited 302 hp and 0-60 in just 5.6 seconds. The interior offers plenty of headroom and rear cargo space. This second-generation infotainment screen also received a much-needed do-over now with a 9.8-inch touchscreen. Comfort and quality were definitely a high priority in Lexus’ redesign.

8) 2024 Dodge Hornet Hybrid

Price: $42,995 EPA-Estimated fuel economy: 29 MPG combined, gasoline+electric 77 MPGe, EV range 33

The Dodge Hornet plug-in hybrid is new for 2024, and debuts as Dodge’s first hybrid plug-in. The AWD hybrid comes equipped with a 1.3-liter, 4-cylinder plus a powerful electric motor creating 288 hp. Local commuting can be done in pure EV mode if your ride is less than 33 miles, and can recharge the battery on a level two charger in less than 2.5 hours. Also, not all hybrids are slow and sluggish during acceleration. Enjoyment can be had from the Powershot boost which heaves the car an extra 30 hp for the more zealous driver.

9) 2024 Lexus UX

Price: $36,690 EPA-Estimated fuel economy: 42 MPG combined (UX 250h). 39 MPG (UX 250h AWD)

The UX is the small-yet-mighty fighter of the Lexus SUV hybrid lineup. This compact SUV comes equipped with a sporty suspension and steering setup, paired with a punchy 181-hp, 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain. The handsome interior, large gauge cluster, and well-proportioned infotainment screen remind you that Lexus knows how to do luxury right.

10) 2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid

Price: $27,035EPA-Estimated fuel economy: 44 MPG (Hybrid SE)

The Toyota Corolla Hybrid is a safe and efficient small hybrid vehicle available as a compact sedan or a four-door hatchback. It received a perfect score of 5 stars for its overall safety rating from NHTSA. Offering a choice of either front-wheel or AWD, the motor sips on gasoline while flaunting up to an impressive 50 mpg. The gradual acceleration is perfect for the city commute but can be a bit lethargic when it comes to highway entrance ramps.

Also, it comes standard with a sport-tuned suspension which helps bring some fun to its step. The Corolla Cross Hybrid is a competent small SUV, paired with a decent starting price that makes it an attractive choice.

Title : Active carbons as nanoporous materials for solving of environmental problems

However, up to now, the main carriers of catalytic additives have been mineral sorbents: silica gels, alumogels. This is obviously due to the fact that they consist of pure homogeneous components SiO2 and Al2O3, respectively. It is generally known that impurities, especially the ash elements, are catalytic poisons that reduce the effectiveness of the catalyst. Therefore, carbon sorbents with 5-15% by weight of ash elements in their composition are not used in the above mentioned technologies. However, in such an important field as a gas-mask technique, carbon sorbents (active carbons) are carriers of catalytic additives, providing effective protection of a person against any types of potent poisonous substances (PPS). In ESPE “JSC "Neorganika" there has been developed the technology of unique ashless spherical carbon carrier-catalysts by the method of liquid forming of furfural copolymers with subsequent gas-vapor activation, brand PAC. Active carbons PAC have 100% qualitative characteristics of the three main properties of carbon sorbents: strength - 100%, the proportion of sorbing pores in the pore space – 100%, purity - 100% (ash content is close to zero). A particularly outstanding feature of active PAC carbons is their uniquely high mechanical compressive strength of 740 ± 40 MPa, which is 3-7 times larger than that of  such materials as granite, quartzite, electric coal, and is comparable to the value for cast iron - 400-1000 MPa. This allows the PAC to operate under severe conditions in moving and fluidized beds.  Obviously, it is time to actively develop catalysts based on PAC sorbents for oil refining, petrochemicals, gas processing and various technologies of organic synthesis.

Victor M. Mukhin was born in 1946 in the town of Orsk, Russia. In 1970 he graduated the Technological Institute in Leningrad. Victor M. Mukhin was directed to work to the scientific-industrial organization "Neorganika" (Elektrostal, Moscow region) where he is working during 47 years, at present as the head of the laboratory of carbon sorbents.     Victor M. Mukhin defended a Ph. D. thesis and a doctoral thesis at the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia (in 1979 and 1997 accordingly). Professor of Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Scientific interests: production, investigation and application of active carbons, technological and ecological carbon-adsorptive processes, environmental protection, production of ecologically clean food.
