What is rTMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) Therapy?

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, Addictions, OCD, Bipolar Depression, Mild Cognitive Impairment, Traumatic Brain Injury, Early-stage Alzheimer's, Chronic Pain, and Smoking Cessation.

Approved by Health Canada, rTMS usually is used only when other depression treatments haven't been effective. Health Canada also approved rTMS for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), migraines and to help people stop smoking when standard treatments haven't worked well. Research continues into other potential uses for rTMS, including epilepsy.

When used for depression, anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, etc, this treatment involves delivering repeated magnetic pulses, so it's called repetitive TMS or rTMS.

  • A Student’s Guide to Travel Health

field trip health

Traveling as a student opens up a plethora of unique experiences, from semester-abroad programs to spring break escapades and volunteer trips. While the promise of exploration and adventure calls, it’s imperative to prioritize your health to fully enjoy these experiences. This guide offers a look into maintaining your health while traversing the globe, ensuring your travels are not just memorable but are conducted with your well-being in mind.

Understanding Travel Vaccinations

The first step in travel health is understanding the importance of vaccinations. Different regions pose different health risks, making certain vaccinations necessary for safe travel. Engaging with a travel health clinic well ahead of your departure can ensure you’re protected against region-specific diseases like Yellow Fever, Typhoid, or Hepatitis A and B.

It’s crucial to research “ What vaccines do I need to travel internationally? ” before your trip. Consulting a specialized service can provide you with up-to-date information and recommendations based on your destination, travel activities, and health history, helping you make informed decisions about your vaccinations.

Managing Jet Lag

Jet lag can significantly impact the start of your travel experience, but it doesn’t have to. There are several strategies to mitigate its effects, such as adjusting your sleep schedule a few days before departure, staying hydrated, and avoiding caffeine and alcohol during your flight. Upon arrival, exposing yourself to natural sunlight can help reset your internal clock to the new time zone.

Eating Safely While Traveling

Experiencing local cuisine is part of the adventure of traveling. However, it’s crucial to do so safely to avoid foodborne illnesses. Opt for restaurants and street vendors with a high turnover of locals, always choose cooked meals over raw foods, and stick to bottled water in areas where water safety is a concern.

Staying Active and Fit

Maintaining a fitness routine while on the move may seem challenging, but it’s essential for keeping your energy levels up and staving off illness. Whether it’s a morning jog, a swim, or a yoga session in your room, finding time to exercise is important. Many travel destinations offer unique opportunities for physical activity, such as hiking, kayaking, or even dance classes, adding an exciting twist to staying fit.

Mental Health on the Move

Travel can be as taxing mentally as it is physically. From culture shock to homesickness, it’s crucial to attend to your mental health. Methods to support your mental well-being include keeping a travel journal, staying in touch with friends and family back home, and allowing yourself time to relax and reflect on your experiences.

Travel Health Kits

No traveler should be without a well-stocked travel health kit . Basic items should include first-aid components, any prescription medications with their original prescription, over-the-counter remedies for common travel ailments like diarrhea and motion sickness, and hand sanitizer. Tailor your kit to your destination by considering the specific risks associated with your travel plans.

Local Healthcare Knowledge

Before embarking on your journey, acquaint yourself with the healthcare landscape of your destination. Knowing the location of reputable clinics and hospitals, as well as understanding how to navigate local emergency services, can provide peace of mind. Additionally, travel insurance that covers health issues abroad can be a lifesaver in the face of unexpected medical problems.

Staying Hydrated

Hydration is crucial for overall health, especially while traveling. Flying, in particular, can dehydrate you, so carry a reusable water bottle and refill it regularly. In countries where tap water isn’t safe to drink, purchase sealed bottled water or use a water purification method. Staying hydrated helps maintain energy levels, supports immune function, and can even improve mood.

Protecting Your Skin

Regardless of your destination, protecting your skin against the sun and elements is important. Wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30, reapplying every two hours, and after swimming or sweating. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and lightweight long-sleeved clothing can also protect against the sun’s harmful rays. In colder climates, protect your skin from harsh winds and low temperatures with appropriate gear and moisturizer.

Travel Health Insurance

Securing comprehensive travel health insurance is a must for any student traveler. This insurance can cover anything from minor sickness to serious injuries or health emergencies. It gives you the security and peace of mind knowing that unforeseen medical expenses will not be a burden. Check the specifics of your policy to ensure it meets your needs, including coverage for any pre-existing conditions and activities you plan to engage in.

Traveling provides an unparalleled opportunity for growth, learning, and adventure. By taking the appropriate steps to manage your health before and during your journey, you can ensure that your travel experiences enrich your life rather than complicate it with health issues. So pack your bags, but don’t forget your travel health checklist to keep adventure and well-being hand in hand.

Experience yourself in a new way through transformative psychedelic therapies.

Helping you on your journey.

The Team at Field Trip has developed an immersive, psychedelic therapy process that offers an alternative to traditional methods used to treat depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Our safe and comforting environments allow our trusted professionals to help you heal and create actionable change. We'll meet you where you are and help you get to where you want to be.

Our Approach to Better Healing

We recognize that conventional treatments may not always provide relief or the long lasting results you need. We believe every individual has an intrinsic ability to heal. This is why we embrace a spiritual approach that is anchored in self-empowerment and self-connection. ‍

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

Our ketamine therapy program combines psychotherapy with the medical benefits of psychedelics to help you work towards a deeper healing. Supervised by a team of seasoned, supportive psychiatrists and medical professionals, this holistic treatment process serves as a catalyst that inspires the mind and body to begin a healing journey towards overcoming issues with depression, anxiety, or PTSD.

Experience Lasting Change

Many traditional treatments like prescription antidepressants or Electroconvulsive Therapy can be hard on the body and unfortunately may not always lead to the lasting change you were hoping for. Unlike traditional antidepressants (which can take 3 - 4 weeks to take effect) psychedelic-assisted therapy can create meaningful change in just hours after your first session.

UNO EMDS Students Discover First-Hand Health Safety Emergency Management

Uno emds students discover the global health security center at unmc.

Thanks to instructor Reyna Reyes-Nunez, UNO EMDS students experienced a first hand look at a world-class health safety and emergencies facility.

OMAHA, NEBRASKA - Students from the UNO’s Emergency Management (EMGT1000) course had an eye-opening experience during their recent visit to the Global Health Security Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

The trip provided a firsthand look at critical aspects of health security preparedness and response, highlighting the center's pivotal role during major health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The visit included a tour of the quarantine unit, where the first Americans suspected of COVID-19 arrived after being evacuated from a cruise ship. The students were also introduced to the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, where vital tabletop exercises and coordination efforts for responses to health emergencies take place.

Multiple partners coordinate in these exercises, including the Department of Defense, the CDC, fire services and other agencies. Notably, an alumnus of the EMGT program is actively involved in operations at the center, underscoring the impact of academic training in real-world crisis response.

"The students were amazed by the scale and complexity of operations," remarked instructor Reyna Reyes-Nunez, who accompanied the students. "It's one thing to learn about emergency management in the classroom, but witnessing it in action at a world-class facility like this is truly inspiring."

According to Reyes-Nunez, the students got a sneak peak of a real-time simulation involving a group of soldiers clad in personal protective equipment (PPE), undergoing training exercises. They also delved into the intricacies of activation protocols used during past outbreaks like Ebola and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and learned about the latest technology for preparedness and response against health security.

"We have a world-class facility in Omaha as part of the NU system. We are thankful to be able to experience it, and will be featuring it in upcoming classes and projects," she said.

We'd like to go to Vladimir, Suzdal and some other areas if possible for a day.

We are budget tourist and would like to use public transportations touring on our own.

I need recommendations for planning the tour.

How can visit Suzdal from Vladimir train station?

Are the attrations easily accessible by bus or any other public means?

If someone can suggest a plan for a full day tour from morning to evening including when, where, how, cost etc. that would be greatly helpful.

Please help this poor tourist.

Thank you very much.

"golden triangle" - is the criminal drug zone in Asia

I fond the term "Golden ring" from a couple of tourist websites. The below is from Wikipedia,

You would know a drug zone but I meant Russian cities in my question. Please write if you only can help with my question. Thank you.

Sorry I meant gold ring, not triange

field trip health

Just to set expectations, this is NOT simply some small ring of cities you can easily move around in 1-2 days...the Vladiimir/Suzdal trip would be VERY tight in one day, especially if you are intent on do-it-yourself". That is, while normally I am a fan of "do-it-yourself", getting all this done in one day - and with some reasonable "depth" might make you want to think twice about not using some local guide. At best, as stated, you would take the first train out and last one back from Vladimir, and then use bus or whatever to get back and forth from Suzdal...

Other cities are not really "on the way" - some that come to mind include Sergiev Posad, which is much closer but still takes time coming and going, and much further out Yaroslavl and Rostov...in the same direction, but a LONG train ride away...suggest you get your fill with Vladimir and Suzdal, there are quite unique, and different from each other.

One other thing...when are you going...if it is later fall, just be prepared for much shorter daylight hours...not so bad in September, but closer to December, quite short days...

I'll visit end of august. In case I want to do with tour agency. Are there tours available to book once Im there at hotels or tour agencies as day tours?

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) — The group of first graders had no time to waste — they had matzo to make.

The students from Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School of the Nation’s Capital had just 18 minutes to prep and cook the cracker-like, unleavened Passover staple if they wanted to keep it kosher for the holiday. It could not be allowed to rise.

Starting in the evening of April 22 this year, the major Jewish holiday commemorates the exodus of ancient Israelites from slavery in Egypt, as recounted in the Torah. Observant Jews avoid leavened grains for Passover as a reminder of the unleavened bread the Israelites ate when they quickly fled Egypt with no time for dough to rise. Most breads, pastas, cakes and cookies are off-limits, but matzo — or matzah as some translate the Hebrew word — is OK.

But the first graders, in their paper hats and blue school T-shirts, didn’t have to face the time crunch on their own. Wearing a chef’s hat on top of a matzo-themed kippah, Rabbi Levi Raskin led them through all the steps on Thursday during their “Model Matzah Factory” field trip. The children, whose school is in Washington, D.C., learned all about the history of how the festival is celebrated and the story of the exodus.

“As soon as they mix the flour with water, an 18-minute clock begins,” said Raskin, who is director of the JCrafts Center for Jewish Life and Tradition in Rockville, Maryland.

The center is a collaboration with Chabad and has outreach with public schools as well. The demonstration includes a mini flour mill to grind wheat kernels, an example of a water well, and a piping hot oven. While their dough takes about 2 minutes to cook, in a real matzo factory the oven is 2000 degrees and is done in seconds, Raskin said.

First grade teacher, Dafna Kiverstein, was also on hand to help the Washington area students roll out dough during their field trip on Thursday at the JCrafts Center.

The dough spread as Charlotte Gleicher, 7, guided the rolling pin over it, her hands flanked by her teacher’s. Wearing a necklace with her name in Hebrew, Charlotte then used a tool to prickle the dough with small holes, picked up the flattened disc and placed it by the others waiting to be baked into matzo and eventually eaten. Though she was disappointed that she was unable to find her personal piece after they were baked, Charlotte liked the handmade matzo a lot.

Passover generally lasts seven days in Israel and eight days elsewhere.

We recently revisited Tom at his vineyards.  His wife’s family has owned the property since the 18th century. A tobacco farm until the 1960s, it has been a vineyard for the past 15 years.
