Whether you’re a student or a professional, a visit report helps you document the procedures and processes at an industrial or corporate location. These reports are fairly straightforward. Describe the site first and explain what you did while you were there. If required, reflect on what you learned during your visit. No additional research or information is needed.

Writing a Visit Report

Explain the site's purpose, operations, and what happened during the visit. Identify the site's strengths and weaknesses, along with your recommendations for improvement. Include relevant photos or diagrams to supplement your report.

Describing the Site

• Reports are usually only 2-3 pages long, but in some cases, these reports may be much longer.
• In some cases, you may be asked to give recommendations or opinions about the site. In other cases, you will be asked only to describe the site.
• Ask your boss or instructor for models of other visit reports. If you can't get a model, look up samples online.

• If you visited a factory, explain what it is producing and what equipment it uses.
• If you visited a construction site, describe what is being constructed and how far along the construction is. You should also describe the terrain of the site and the layout.
• If you’re visiting a business, describe what the business does. State which department or part of the business you visited.
• If you’re visiting a school, identify which grades they teach. Note how many students attend the school. Name the teachers whose classes you observed.

• Who did you talk to? What did they tell you?
• What did you see at the site?
• What events took place? Did you attend a seminar, Q&A session, or interview?
• Did you see any demonstrations of equipment or techniques?

• For example, at a car factory, describe whether the cars are made by robots or humans. Describe each step of the assembly line.
• If you're visiting a business, talk about different departments within the business. Describe their corporate structure and identify what programs they use to conduct their business.

Reflecting on Your Visit

• Is there something you didn’t realize before that you learned while at the site?
• Who at the site provided helpful information?
• What was your favorite part of the visit and why?

• For example, you might state that the factory uses the latest technology but point out that employees need more training to work with the new equipment.
• If there was anything important left out of the visit, state what it was. For example, maybe you were hoping to see the main factory floor or to talk to the manager.

• Tailor your recommendations to the organization or institution that owns the site. What is practical and reasonable for them to do to improve their site?
• Be specific. Don’t just say they need to improve infrastructure. State what type of equipment they need or give advice on how to improve employee morale.

Formatting Your Report

• If you are following a certain style guideline, like APA or Chicago style, make sure to format the title page according to the rules of the handbook.

• Don’t just say “the visit was interesting” or “I was bored.” Be specific when describing what you learned or saw.

When reporting on a  school trip , there are no ‘set’ ways to get started.

However, we’ve included some school trip report examples below, and outlined a few essential sections to help you out.

As for the length of your school trip report, you should aim for about two to three pages. This might sound quite long, but once you’ve filled out the key elements, it should come together fairly easily. 

The School Trip Aims and Objectives

Every school trip should have some solid objectives behind it: from allowing  geography  students to see coastal erosion in action, to letting your French class practice their language skills at a real  Parisian  market.

Hence, the aims and objectives should be the first and most important part of your school trip report. A bulleted list will suffice.

In your analysis of your school trip, it’s also important to explain why you chose that location.

Was it a once in a lifetime chance to experience other cultures? Or an opportunity for students to get to know their local area?

It’s also worth noting down why this place, in particular, is relevant to your specific  study topics . From museums and art galleries to sights and sounds, what is it about this  destination  that makes it the perfect spot to enhance your pupils’ classroom learning?

The school trip diary

A good school trip report should always include some diary-style entries. If it was a day trip, write up what your students did in the morning and afternoon. If you enjoyed a longer visit, you can separate out the activities from each day. 

However, rather than simply writing down the itinerary, make sure you explain how students felt, and what they learned. Adding little details like what the weather was like, and all the sights and sounds you noticed, can really help to bring your experience to life.

For  modern foreign language  students, this might be improved fluency in their chosen language. For  art students , it might be inspiration for their coursework. For geographers, a case study they can use in their exams.

College students typically choose one academic area to specialize in, for example, the social sciences, biology, language arts or business. Whatever your choice of a major, you'll probably have to complete many projects in your area that require a formal written report. And while the subject matter obviously will differ, the structure of a study report will be the same.

Write an introduction to your study topic that explains your objectives and what you expected to find as a result of the study. In many cases, you'll start with a hypothesis and explain why you expected a particular result.

Put your study in context. Explain any relevant background information and outline why you chose this topic to study. Discuss any regulations you had to follow in conducting the study. Provide a brief summary of the report to give readers an idea of what they're about to read.

Present your methods. Discuss the specific protocol you used to set up the study and present your statistical analysis plan. Describe the population you studied and why you chose it.

Present applicable safety data. Describe any adverse events that may have occurred during the study. Present your laboratory data and any other relevant safety data.

Write your conclusion. Discuss any conclusions you may have come to after conducting this study. Be sure to tell readers whether or not your original hypothesis held up after examination. Also, discuss any unintended results that may have surprised you. At this point, bring all of your data together to paint a clear picture of the study as a whole.

Wrap it up. Collect all relevant information and organize into tables, figures and appendices that will appear at the end of your report. Include all information readers may wish to refer to while reading the report.

Smallholders become increasingly significant for global agricultural value chains. The agriculture sector is a source of livelihood worldwide. In rural areas of Malaysia, there are several challenges has been identified by applying smallholder activities. The article focuses on an adaptation of smallholder in the rural area towards current challenges of practising it locally, with particular reference to Kampung Merchong that located in Pekan District, Pahang State, Malaysia. Based on in-depth interview with local smallholder farmers and series site visit for field observation, there are at least three challenges has been highlighted occurred in study area included (1) labor shortages due to outmigration, (2) lack of skills, professional advice, training and finance; and (3) the low quality of soil and agricultural land. Thus, this review will notify state governments, related agencies and the private sector to draw attention to this neglected and vulnerable rural smallholder activities. Such situation may affect the Pekan District as a major rice producer in Pahang in future due to the unsustain smallholder economy activities.

–The paper is an empirical study examining the tangible and intangible culture of rural tourism with a focus on rural transformation from daily local into commercial behaviour due to presence of tourism activities. It explores the process of commercialization of tangible and intangible culture. The case studies of Brayut and Pentingsari rural tourism village are studied through observation and interviews of physical and non physical transformation with community members and the rural tourism manager. Both villages are the unique growing tourist village in Yogyakarta, but Brayut has a potential asset of maintained condition traditional Javanese house in whereas Pentingsari has an attractive natural of green village with the local cultural heritage. The qualitative empirical research study was applied to explore the transformation of cultural meaning by the locals before and after commercialization process. Firstly, the study reviewed the original tangible and intangible culture before transformation. Secondly, changes in cultural functions and meaning are analyzed in the current situation caused by its transforming into commercial activities. By examining the comparison of tangible and intangible culture in the commercializing process is built to understand the relationships between the two and the quality of its transformation.

There are numerous attractions and tourism objects available in Bali. The vast choices available in Bali make this island a strong magnet for tourists to come. New and creative ideas have been proposed to attract different segments of tourists to come to Bali. Mepantigan is a new attraction available in Bali in the form of games played in the muddy rice field which includes various cultural activities based from the Balinese tradition. The activities are suitable for all ages therefore every member of the family can participate. Regardless of how this activity benefits the locals and participants in various ways, there is a concern whether this is just another form of commodification of Balinese culture tailored for tourism or not, thus this research is conducted to answer that concern. This is a qualitative research based on the platform of sustainable tourism. To obtain data for this research, observation and deep interview are used. The informants for the interview are the operators and also the participants of Mepantigan. This research is still ongoing which later will answer the hypotheses of this research, which are Mepantigan is able to introduce values of the Balinese tradition; it is a sustainable tourism family package, and participants are satisfied of the package. The role of tourism to the economy of Bali and Indonesia can be seen from the increase in tourist arrivals. The study results showed that if tourism is represented by the trade, hotels and restaurants sector, tourism contribution to the economy of Bali is 27.82% in 2010 to be 31.35% in 2014. If tourism represented by the tertiary sector (services sector), contribution of tourism to the economy is 65.28% in 2010 to be 68.28% in 2014. Tourism is represented trade, hotels and restaurants sector, the number of labor who work in tourism is 571,274 people (26.24%) in 2010 to be 628,585 people (27.64%) in 2014. If tourism is represented the tertiary sector, the number labor who work in the tourism is 1,046,530 people (48.96%) in 2010 to be 1,178,201 people (51.81%) in 2014.

Research conduction is not just limited to your laboratory, library, or work place setting. As part of your research you may have to step out in the field (any place other than your regular research lab or work station) to collect raw data for analysis and then publish it as a field study report. A field study report is defined as a documentation of analysis of particular phenomena, behaviors, processes based on theories and observations made by the researcher in the field. These observed and analyzed theories are used to identify solutions for a specific project or case report .

What is the Importance of Field Study Report?

• A field study report is important as part of many operational and technical documentation processes in various industries including field services, education, medicine, and management.
• Moreover, it gives detailed information of an observed subject or specimen which is used to analyze and compare data against a theoretical framework .
• It also helps in identifying challenges in implementing solutions to form a standardized protocol.
• Furthermore, it helps in capturing information on resource management and discovering new processes for effective and optimized solutions.

How to Write Field Research Notes?

A field study report begins with an idea and ends with a solution. Hence, while conducting field research, one must follow a planned route of taking notes for proper documentation of the observations made. A successful field study report begins when the researcher is involved in the observational research process of taking proper notes.

Based on the methods, the field research notes are categorized in four different types:

1. Job Notes:

• Researchers use this method of taking field notes whilst they are conducting the study.
• These notes are taken in close proximity and in open sight with the study’s subject.
• These notes are brief, concise, in the form that can be built on by the researcher later while creating the report.

2. Field Notes Proper:

• This method of taking field notes is to expand them immediately after the completion of study.
• These notes are detailed and the words have to be as close to the terms that will be used in the final field study report.

3. Methodological Notes:

• This type of field notes involve research methods used by the researcher, newly proposed research methods, and the way to monitor their progress.
• Methodological notes are either attached with field notes or filed separately. These notes are always placed at the end of the field study report.

4. Journals and Diaries:

• This method of taking notes is an insight into the researcher’s life as it tracks all aspects of the researcher’s life.
• It helps in eliminating any bias that may have affected the field research.

Examples of Things to Document During Field Study

1. Physical Setting:

Observe the characteristics of the space where the study is being conducted.

2. Objects and Material:

The presence, placement, and arrangement of objects that affect the behavior of the subject being studied.

3. Language Used:

Observe the language being used by study participants (in case of human participation).

4. Behavior Cycles:

Document who is performing what behavior at what time and situation.

5. Physical Characteristics of Participants/Subjects:

Observe and note personal characteristics of subjects.

6. Body Movements:

Things such as body posture or facial expressions and assess if these movements support or contradict the language used while communicating.

Data Collection in Field Report (Sampling Techniques)

Data collection process in field study is also known as sampling. It refers to the process used to select a portion of the population for study. Selection of an ideal sampling technique is imperative to obtain the richest possible source of information to answer the research questions.

Different Types of Sampling Techniques:

Ad Libitum Sampling

This technique involves observing whatever seems interesting at the moment. It does not follow an organized system of recording the observations.

Behavior Sampling

This sampling technique involves watching the entire group of subjects and recording each occurrence of a specific behavior of interest with reference to which individuals were involved.

Continuous Recording

This sampling technique includes recording of frequencies, durations, and latencies in a continuous and systematic pattern.

Focal Sampling

The focal sampling technique involves observing one individual/subject for a specified amount of time and recording all instances of that individual’s behavior.

Instantaneous Sampling

The technique of instantaneous sampling involves dividing observation sessions into short intervals by sample points.

One-Zero Sampling

The one-zero sampling technique is similar to instantaneous sampling. It involves recording only if the behaviors of interest have occurred at any time during an interval instead of at the instant of the sampling point.

Scan Sampling

The scan sampling technique involves taking a census of the entire observed group at predetermined time periods and recording what each individual is doing at that moment.

What is the Structure and Writing Style of Field Study Report?

A field study report does not have a standard format; however, the following factors determined its structure and writing style:

• Nature of research problem
• Theoretical perspective that drives the analysis
• Observations made by researcher
• Specific guidelines established by your professor/supervisor

A field study report includes 6 main elements as follows:

1. Introduction

The introduction section should describe the objective and important theories or concepts underpinning your field study. More importantly, it should describe the organization’s nature or setting where you are conducting the observation—the types of observations conducted, the focus of your research study, what was observed, and which methods were used for collecting the data. Furthermore, it is important to include a review of pertinent literature .

2. Description of Activities

It becomes imperative for researchers to provide the information to the readers about what happened during the field study. Hence, you must include the details of all events that take place during your field research.

The description section helps in answering the five “WH” questions as mentioned below:

What did you see and hear in your area of study?

Where does the background information of the research setting is observed and reported?

Why are you conducting this field research?,

The reason behind particular thing happening , and

Why have you included or excluded specific information?

Who are the participants in terms of gender, age, ethnicity, and other relevant variables from your observation?

When is the study being conducted (day or time when occurring actions are observed and noted)?

3. Analysis and Interpretation

While you are on the field conducting the study, you are likely to observe multiple things. However, it is up to you as to which observations do you want to interpret and record in the report. This allows you to show the reader that you are interpreting events like an informed observer. Furthermore, your theoretical framework helps you in making this decision. The analysis and interpretation of your field observations must always be placed in the larger context of the theories described in the introduction.

Some questions to ask yourself when analyzing your observations are as follows:

• What is the meaning of your observations?
• What are the reasons behind the occurrence of the things you observed?
• How typical or widespread are the events and behaviors of the things you observed?
• Are there any connections or patterns in your observations?
• What are the implications of your observations?
• Did your observations match the objective of your study?
• What were the merits of your observations?
• What were the strengths and weaknesses of your recorded observations?
• Are there any connections between your findings and the findings from pertinent literature?
• Do your observations fit into the larger context of the study’s theories?

4. Conclusion and Recommendations

The conclusion of your field study report should summarize your report and emphasize the importance of your observations. This section has to be concise and relevant to your field study and must not include any new information. Furthermore, it is imperative to highlight any recommendations that you may have for readers to consider while conducting similar study. Additionally, describe any unanticipated problems you encountered and note the limitations of your study. Limit your conclusion to around two to three paragraphs.

5. References

The reference section must include every source that you referred to and used while writing your field study report. Since format for writing references may differ for every university, you must consult your professor to understand the format and write it accordingly.

6. Appendix

This section includes information that is not essential to explain your findings, but supports your analysis [especially repetitive or lengthy information]. It validates your conclusions and contextualize a related point. This helps the reader to understand the overall field study report.

6 Key Points to Consider While Writing a Field Study Report

A field study report focuses on factual and observational details of a project case. It must help the reader understand how theory applies to real-world scenarios. Hence, it should cover the circumstances and contributing factors to derive conclusive results from the observed and collated raw data.

Below are the key points to consider while writing a field study report:

1. Define the Objective of Your Field Report

• Ensure that you state the purpose of your field study report clearly.
• Determine the focus of your study and provide the relevant information.
• Define the setting of observations, and the methods used to collect data.

2. Construct a Theoretical Framework

• Creating a theoretical framework helps you in garnering information based on statistics, news, and pertinent literature for better understanding.
• Additionally, it guides you in determining the data that need to be analyzed and set as a baseline for comparison to acquire necessary information.

3. Record Study Observations and Analysis

• Take notes of your observations based on the defined scope of work (SOW).
• Furthermore, achieve and record the detailed plan on how to achieve the set objectives.

4. Include Photo Evidence of Observed Items

• Validate gathered raw data with photographs or videos as evidences.
• This increases the authenticity of your report and the conclusions you derive from it.

5. Record Overall Assessment and Recommendations

• Document all the observed aspects of your study based on gathered analysis and observations.
• Furthermore, clearly explain the observations and discuss the challenges and limitations faced by you while conducting the study.

6. Validate the Observations with a Signature

• After completing your research and documenting it, it is important to declare who is responsible for the reported data.
• Additionally, you must validate your findings in the field study report by signing off with a digital signature at the end of the report.

College tour season is about to kick off. Here are 10 tips from college tour guides to have a successful campus visit.

• As spring starts, colleges nationwide will welcome parents and students to tour their campuses. 
• College tour guides want people to arrive on time, ask the right questions, and have fun.
• They also recommend students take the tours on their own, without their parents.

Spring break is right around the corner, and for many high-school students and their parents, that means many will be hitting the road to tour colleges around the country.

To make the most of your visit, Business Insider spoke with college students and tour guides. They know the campuses like the backs of their hands, and they know how to walk backward.

Here are the dos and don'ts of college tours from student guides .

1. Get there with no time to spare, but don't be late.

You won't get points for arriving early, so try to arrive on time. But if you do happen to arrive late , there's no need to worry.

"If something comes up and you are late, ask your guide what you missed once the tour finishes," Skyler Kawecki-Muonio, a senior at Sarah Lawrence College in New York, told BI. "They will happily fill you in."

2. Dress to impress, but don't sacrifice comfort.

It's important to look nice, but you don't have to don a jacket and tie. Tour-goers should put their best foot forward with a sturdy pair of walking shoes , and don't forget to dress for the weather.

"At Fairleigh Dickinson, tours go out rain or shine, so make sure to wear clothes that will keep you warm," Emily Bone, a junior at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, said .

3. Don't forget to sign in, but skip the résumé .

Most schools have a check-in desk where you'll receive a campus map and other literature. But don't bother furnishing schools with your portfolio.

"Students can leave their résumés at home," Henry Millar, a senior at the College of William & Mary in Virginia, said. "Tour guides generally do not have any sway in the admissions process whatsoever, so feel free to save the paper."

4. Pay attention on the tour, but do it solo if possible.

Some schools offer to let parents and kids take separate tours, which has advantages.

"Get excited about your child's potential future in college, but give them some space to see what they think of that school on their own," Nathan Weisbrod, a junior at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, told BI.

5. Ask all your questions, but avoid personal interrogations.

This is the time to inquire about any aspect of campus life , and don't feel shy about speaking up.

"Tour guides love getting questions because it allows us to cater the tour, especially in small groups, toward the needs and interests of the families on that specific tour," Halle Spataro, a senior at Bucknell University, said.

But some topics are off-limits, so don't ask your tour guide about their SAT scores , ACT scores , or what they wrote about in their essay .

6. Speak up, but let the student take the lead.

Parents may be tempted to raise their hands again and again, but this tour is about the student, so there should be space to let them shine.

"Try to take the back seat — or the passenger seat — but refrain from driving all of your child's interactions," Julian Jacklin, a junior at Reed College in Oregon, said. "Students who feel they can own that experience usually ask the most questions and engage with the tour more."

7. Say thanks, but don't leave with questions unanswered.

Maybe your guide didn't hear you, or your kid was reluctant to speak up. You can still get the information you want before leaving.

"There's a lot of information students are getting that day and a lot of excitement with being in a new place, which can make people forget to ask certain questions," Lorenzo Mars, a junior at Pepperdine University in California, said.

Therefore, get your tour guide's email address so that you can follow up .

8. You may know exactly what school is right but keep an open mind.

Don't be surprised if a city-living kid is suddenly intrigued by a small-town setting.

"The college search and college experience are all about getting to know yourself better and growing, so on a tour, students have to trust themselves and their judgment of the 'world' they've just stepped into," Thomas Elias, a senior at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania, said .

9. Take in as much as possible, but remember to have fun.

Sure, preparing for the next four years can be scary and stressful. But it's also an exciting milestone, so enjoy the ride.

"These tours serve as great opportunities to learn more about colleges — along with their cities, culture, and people," Connor Gee, a sophomore at the University of Mississippi, said. "Have fun with it!"

10. Weigh the pros and cons of the school, but don't stop there.

Your tour may be over, but you can still learn other ways to immerse yourself in college life .

"See if the school offers additional experiences, like eating in the cafeteria or attending a class," Emily Balda, a senior at Seton Hall University in New Jersey, said. "Consider it 'food for thought.'"

Cost-of-living study says this is how much money you need to ‘live comfortably’

(CNN) - The cost of living has spiked in recent years but that’s just half the story, according to a recent study.

Just living isn’t the same as living comfortably.

Researchers found that affording basic pleasures is costing more these days without trying to live paycheck to paycheck.

A study released by Smart Asset determined the amount needed to “live comfortably” in 99 U.S. cities.

And the numbers are high.

The average salary needed to live comfortably in a major city is $96,500 for one person and roughly $235,000 for a family of four.

According to the study, the highest for an individual is New York, where a person would need roughly $138,000 to live comfortably.

The lowest is Houston, where a single adult must earn about $75,000 a year to live comfortably.

House Republican budget calls for raising the retirement age for Social Security

WASHINGTON — A new budget by a large and influential group of House Republicans calls for raising the Social Security retirement age for future retirees and restructuring Medicare.

The proposals, which are unlikely to become law this year, reflect how many Republicans will seek to govern if they win the 2024 elections. And they play into a fight President Joe Biden is seeking to have with former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party as he runs for re-election.

The budget was released Wednesday by the Republican Study Committee , a group of more than 170 House GOP lawmakers, including many allies of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Apart from fiscal policy, the budget endorses a series of bills “designed to advance the cause of life,” including the Life at Conception Act, which would aggressively restrict abortion and potentially threaten in vitro fertilization , or IVF, by establishing legal protections for human beings at “the moment of fertilization.” It has recently caused consternation within the GOP following backlash to an Alabama Supreme Court ruling that threatened IVF.

The RSC, which is chaired by Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., counts among its members Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and his top three deputies in leadership. Johnson chaired the RSC from 2019 to 2021; his office did not immediately respond when asked about the new budget.

For Social Security, the budget endorses "modest adjustments to the retirement age for future retirees to account for increases in life expectancy." It calls for lowering benefits for the highest-earning beneficiaries. And it emphasizes that those ideas are not designed to take effect immediately: "The RSC Budget does not cut or delay retirement benefits for any senior in or near retirement."

The new budget also calls for converting Medicare to a "premium support model," echoing a proposal that Republican former Speaker Paul Ryan had rallied support for. Under the new RSC plan, traditional Medicare would compete with private plans and beneficiaries would be given subsidies to shop for the policies of their choice. The size of the subsidies could be pegged to the "average premium" or "second lowest price" in a particular market, the budget says.

The plan became a flashpoint in the 2012 election, when Ryan was GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney's running mate, and President Barack Obama charged that it would "end Medicare as we know it." Ryan defended it as a way to put Medicare on better financial footing, and most of his party stood by him.

Medicare is projected to become insolvent in 2028, and Social Security will follow in 2033. After that, benefits will be forcibly cut unless more revenues are added.

Biden has blasted Republican proposals for the retirement programs, promising that he will not cut benefits and instead proposing in his recent White House budget to cover the future shortfall by raising taxes on upper earners.

The RSC budget also presents a conundrum for Trump, who has offered shifting rhetoric on Social Security and Medicare without proposing a clear vision for the future of the programs.

Notably, the RSC budget presents three possible options to address the projected insolvency of the retirement programs: raise taxes, transfer money from the general fund or reduce spending to cover the shortfall.

It rejects the first two options.

"Raising taxes on people will further punish them and burden the broader economy–something that the spend and print regime has proven to be disastrous and regressive," the budget says, adding that the committee also opposes "a multi-trillion-dollar general fund transfer that worsens our fiscal situation."

That leaves spending cuts.

The RSC budget launches blistering criticism at "Obamacare," or the Affordable Care Act, and calls for rolling back its subsidies and regulations that were aimed at extending insurance coverage.

Former President Donald Trump is bringing together church and state in a gilded package for his latest venture, a $60 "God Bless The USA" Bible complete with copies of the nation's founding documents.

Trump announced the launch of the leather-bound, large-print, King James Bible in a post on Truth Social on Tuesday — a day after the social media company surged in its trading debut and two days after a New York appeals court extended his bond deadline to comply with a ruling in a civil fraud case and slashed the bond amount by 61%.

"Happy Holy Week! Let's Make America Pray Again," Trump wrote. "As we lead into Good Friday and Easter, I encourage you to get a copy of the God Bless The USA Bible."

Why trump's persecution narrative resonates with christian supporters.

The Bible is inspired by "God Bless the USA," the patriotic Lee Greenwood anthem that has been a fixture at many a Trump rally (and has a long political history dating back to Ronald Reagan). It is the only Bible endorsed by Trump as well as Greenwood, according to its promotional website .

The Bible is only available online and sells for $59.99 (considerably more expensive than the traditional Bibles sold at major retailers, or those available for free at many churches and hotels). It includes Greenwood's handwritten chorus of its titular song as well as copies of historical documents including the U.S. Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Pledge of Allegiance.

"Many of you have never read them and don't know the liberties and rights you have as Americans, and how you are being threatened to lose those rights," Trump said in a three-minute video advertisement.

"Religion and Christianity are the biggest things missing from this country, and I truly believe that we need to bring them back and we have to bring them back fast."

Trump critics on both sides of the aisle quickly criticized the product, characterizing it as self-serving and hypocritical.

Conservative political commentator Charlie Sykes slammed him for "commodifying the Bible during Holy Week," while Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota critiqued him for "literally taking a holy book and selling it, and putting it out there in order to make money for his campaign."

Trump says the money isn't going to his campaign, but more on that below.

Klobuchar added that Trump's public attacks on others are "not consistent with the teachings of the Bible," calling this "one more moment of hypocrisy." Tara Setmayer, a senior adviser for anti-Trump Republican PAC the Lincoln Project, called it "blasphemous ."

And former Rep. Liz Cheney, a Republican from Wyoming, trolled Trump with a social media post alluding to his alleged extramarital affairs.

"Happy Holy Week, Donald," she wrote. "Instead of selling Bibles, you should probably buy one. And read it, including Exodus 20:14 ."

Christianity is an increasingly prominent part of his campaign

Trump has made a point of cultivating Christian supporters since his 2016 presidential campaign and remains popular with white evangelicals despite his multiple divorces, insults toward marginalized groups and allegations of extramarital affairs and sexual assault.

And his narrative of being persecuted — including in the courts — appears to resonate with his many Christian supporters.

Trump has increasingly embraced Christian nationalist ideas in public. He promised a convention of religious broadcasters last month that he would use a second term to defend Christian values from the "radical left," swearing that "no one will be touching the cross of Christ under the Trump administration."

He made similar comments in the Bible promotional video, in which he warned that "Christians are under siege" and the country is "going haywire" because it lost religion.

"We must defend God in the public square and not allow the media or the left-wing groups to silence, censor or discriminate against us," he said. "We have to bring Christianity back into our lives and back into what will be again a great nation."

Trump himself is not known to be particularly religious or a regular churchgoer. He long identified as Presbyterian but announced in 2020 that he identified as nondenominational .

A Pew Research Center survey released earlier this month found that most people with positive views of Trump don't see him as especially religious, but think he stands up for people with religious beliefs like their own.

Trump said in the promotional video that he has many Bibles at home.

"It's my favorite book," he said, echoing a comment he's made in previous years. "It's a lot of people's favorite book."

The Impact Of Christian Nationalism On American Democracy

Trump's relationship to the Bible has been a point of discussion and sometimes controversy over the years.

In 2020, amid protests over George Floyd's murder, he posed with a Bible outside a Washington, D.C., church, for which he was widely criticized. U.S. Park Police and National Guard troops had tear-gassed peaceful protesters in the area beforehand, seemingly to make way for the photo-op, though a watchdog report the following year determined otherwise .

That same year, a clip of a 2015 Bloomberg interview, in which Trump declines to name his favorite — or any — Bible verse resurfaced on social media and went viral.

Bible sales are unlikely to solve Trump's financial problems

An FAQ section on the Bible website says no profits will go to Trump's reelection campaign.

"GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign," it says.

However, the site adds that it uses Trump's name, likeness and image "under paid license from CIC Ventures LLC."

Trump is listed as the manager, president, secretary and treasurer of CIC Ventures LLC in a financial disclosure from last year.

Trump's sales pitch focuses on bringing religion back to America.

"I want to have a lot of people have it," he said at one point in the video. "You have to have it for your heart and for your soul."

But many are wondering whether Trump has something else to gain from Bible sales while facing under mounting financial pressure.

There's his presidential reelection campaign, which has raised only about half of what Biden's has so far this cycle. Trump acknowledged Monday that he "might" spend his own money on his campaign, something he hasn't done since 2016.

There's also his mounting legal expenses, as he faces four criminal indictments and numerous civil cases. Trump posted bond to support a $83.3 million jury award granted to writer E. Jean Carroll in a defamation case earlier this month, and was due to put up another $454 million in a civil fraud case this past Monday.

His lawyers had said last week that they had approached 30 companies for help making bond, but doing so was a "practical impossibility" — prompting New York's attorney general to confirm that if Trump did not pay, she would move to seize his assets . On Monday, the appeals court reduced the bond amount to $175 million and gave Trump another 10 days to post it.

Trump has evidently been trying to raise money in other ways.

The day after the civil fraud judgment was announced, he debuted a line of $399 golden, high-top sneakers , which sold out in hours . The company behind his social media app, Truth Social, started trading on the Nasdaq exchange on Tuesday, which could deliver him a windfall of more than $3 billion — though he can't sell his shares for another six months.

Class bullies may earn more in middle age, study finds

School bullies are likely to end up with higher salaries, a new study suggests, upending the conventional wisdom that they will receive their comeuppance later in life.

Research published earlier this month by the U.K.'s Institute for Social and Economic Research found that children who exhibited certain kinds of problematic behavior at school, including throwing temper tantrums and teasing or bullying others, had higher earnings in their 40s.

Children with "conduct problems" at school also reported higher satisfaction in work.

Meanwhile, it was children who struggled with paying attention and forming relationships with their classmates who ended up performing more poorly in the labor market, and had lower satisfaction with both work and life.

Failure to finish tasks and emotional problems such as anxiety were also linked to poorer outcomes in the jobs market.

The study used data from the 1970 British Cohort Study to compare a broad range of behaviors and skills reported by teachers at the ages of 10 and 16, with educational level, earnings, working hours and occupation up to the age of 46.

The social and emotional skills identified in school-age children could help predict various facets of later life, it found. The study factored in socioeconomic details such as family income, parental employment and educational status.

The results suggest a need to reconsider how schools discipline children, according to the authors.

"It is possible that what is often identified as aggressive behaviour is the adaptive response to a competitive environment," they say.

"Rather than a punitive approach, there could be more focus on understanding the causes of the disruptive behaviour and teachers could be trained to identify strategies that help children to channel these tendencies in ways that fit better with the classroom."

In 2022/2023, as part of the Tensions Monitoring System, UNDP commissioned a study on whether and how people use WhatsApp to create or contribute to incidents and tensions in Lebanon. The report was commissioned based on the noticeable shift in nature of information circulated on social media, coupled with an evident uptick in tensions and incidents. Using a mixed-methods methodology, the report provides few overarching insights into how WhatsApp is being used in Lebanon. The study concluded that WhatsApp is indeed a pivotal platform in Lebanon for everybody, used to obtain and share information and seen as a tool of free, convenient, rapid, and flexible communication. The perception of WhatsApp as a trustworthy platform likely contributes to its popularity and the ease with which information is shared among its users. This means that WhatsApp has great potential to influence both negative and positive sentiments. The unique nature of WhatsApp contributes to creating an environment where misinformation and disinformation can proliferate across various segments of society. While it plays a critical role in ensuring users communicate with one another and be adequately informed of current events, it may also impact tensions across Lebanon in a variety of ways.  The report also provides programmatic recommendations on how to prevent and address tensions, fake news, and hate speech in Lebanon. To that end, UNDP focuses on supporting preventative capacities including for networks and infrastructures for peace, encouraging inclusive engagement and dialogue, and promoting the important role of youth, influencers and journalists in the media and social media space. Research of user behaviors provides additional insights into how UNDP and other stakeholders can best counter negative impact and better utilize social media tools for positive influence.

Playground bullies do prosper – and go on to earn more in middle age

Five-decade UK study finds that aggression at school leads to better-paying jobs, while those with emotional instability went on to earn less

Children who displayed aggressive behaviour at school, such as bullying or temper outbursts, are likely to earn more money in middle age, according to a five-decade study that upends the maxim that bullies do not prosper.

They are also more likely to have higher job satisfaction and be in more desirable jobs, say researchers from the Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex.

The paper, published today, used data about almost 7,000 people born in 1970 whose lives have been tracked by the British Cohort Study . The research team examined data from primary school teachers who assessed the children’s social and emotional skills when they were 10 years old in 1980, and matched it to their lives at the age of 46 in 2016.

“We found that those children who teachers felt had problems with attention, peer relationships and emotional instability did end up earning less in the future, as we expected, but we were surprised to find a strong link between aggressive behaviour at school and higher earnings in later life,” said Prof Emilia Del Bono, one of the study’s authors.

“It’s possible that our classrooms are competitive places and that children adapt to win that competition with aggression, and then take that through to the workplace where they continue to compete aggressively for the best paid jobs. Perhaps we need to reconsider discipline in schools and help to channel this characteristic in children in a more positive way.”

Policymakers should recognise that socio-emotional skills are important, she said, and introduce policies to support these skills in school. “These findings make a strong case for more interventions supporting those struggling with their attention to lessons or with friendships and emotions, to prevent a lifelong negative impact on their earning potential.”

Del Bono, Ben Etheridge and Paul Garcia used primary school teachers’ answers to more than 60 questions about the children’s behaviour.

They found that an increase in teachers’ observations of conduct problems – such as temper outbursts or bullying or teasing other children – was associated with an increase in earnings in 2016 of nearly 4% for a given rise in conduct problems for boys and girls. That compared with a 6% rise for higher cognition skills.

Those considered to have attention problems, such as failing to finish tasks, and emotional problems – seen as worried, anxious or fussy – went on to earn less than their classmates.

Further analysis showed that, by age 16, those with conduct problems were more sociable as teenagers, and were more likely to smoke and be arrested at some point in their lives.

Del Bono said that expectations about children’s behaviour had changed since the 1980s and that many participants had dropped out of the study since it began, a factor that affects all longitudinal studies. “We do lose more of those with higher conduct problems,” she said.

The work tallies with previous research by economists including Nicholas Papageorge, who examined longitudinal studies in the UK and US in 2019 and found that “externalising” behaviour linked to aggression and hyperactivity was associated with lower educational attainment but higher earnings.

Many successful people have had problems of various kinds at school, from Winston Churchill, who was taken out of his primary school, to those who were expelled or suspended.

That does not mean parents should encourage children to misbehave, Del Bono said. “I suppose [it means] encouraging your child to stand their ground, rather than being aggressive.”

Other research has emphasised organisational skills and being goal-oriented – high conscientiousness and low neuroticism in the so-called “big five” personality traits – as keys to career success.

There is no evidence in the institute’s study about whether children who were aggressive continued to be so in adulthood, but if that was a factor in their later success then it may not work for younger generations.

Mary-Clare Race, chief executive of Talking Talent and an occupational psychologist , said 2016 had been a “real turning point” in workplace culture. “Before that time, we did reward typically masculine or aggressive behaviours – bosses slamming their fists on the table or shouting,” she said. But the rise of the #MeToo movement had turned around corporate culture. “At that time I was working in America and we were inundated with companies saying ‘there’s a Harvey Weinstein’ in our company’.”

Turkey local election: Erdogan battles key rival
