"I know producers don't always get to do stuff like this," Kenny Beats said as he wrapped up his Tiny Desk concert. "I'm very lucky I get to do a lot of stuff people with my job title don't get to do." His keen sense of gratitude was palpable and radiated throughout the space. Before the music started, he rushed over to explore the shelves behind the Desk, then added some of his trinkets. He then insisted the music had to be perfect as his dad would be listening. Kenny's debut solo album, LOUIE , dedicated to his father, takes us on a journey through often inexplicable emotions regarding our parents. Kenny enlisted familiar voices to convey the feelings, sparingly incorporating their vocals over soulful beats.

He invited some of those vocalists, along with top-tier musicians including Nick Movshon and Leon Michels, to play something tailor-made for the Tiny Desk. For "Still," rapper JPEGMAFIA finishes his thought through bars that we don't hear on the album. His rambunctious energy juxtaposed with the band's laid-back melodies is a bizarre sight, but it just works. When Remi Wolf sings, her powerful voice naturally cuts above everything else, and she stole the show on "Last Words." Newcomer Nami's falsetto brightened all of the harmonies, and he stepped up to close out with "Rotten."

Kenny Beats is one of the most sought after producers in music and is most certainly the go-to for marrying different genres. Producer-hosted albums are famously frowned upon in hip-hop due to their lack of direction, but LOUIE is clearly saying something. This Tiny Desk feels like a part of that statement.

Kenny Beats has his eye on eternity. Over the last five years, the 31-year-old producer has emerged as one of hip-hop’s most in-demand beatmakers, an ideal collaborator for artists looking to meld genres and eschew chart trends. He’s released one-off singles with Dominic Fike , JPEGMAFIA , and slowthai , made collaborative projects with Denzel Curry , Vince Staples , and Rico Nasty , and created a content empire that’s lofted him into rarified air: He’s Gen Z’s Rick Rubin , a Twitch streamer’s Madlib . On his YouTube series “The Cave,” he makes beats in real time for artists like Mac DeMarco and Doja Cat ; on his Twitch channel, he hosts beat battles, gifts high-level recording equipment to aspiring musicians, and offers practical advice and motivating pep talks. “These communities are things I never dreamed about when my biggest dream was [to] have a platinum plaque, make a million dollars,” Kenny said in a recent interview. “My dream now is: Holy shit, I can have this be self-sufficient way after I’m dead.”

Kenny had yet to drop a solo project until now. The classic producer compilation tape didn’t appeal to him; why gather a bunch of verses from famous rappers when he’d already been doing this for years, across a variety of platforms? “I always said that I wouldn’t do a solo album because I didn’t have anything to say,” he wrote in advance of Louie, his full-length debut. “Finally, I did.” After his father was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, he found the inspiration he’d been looking for. Louie pays homage to Kenny’s father—a former broadcaster—through radio-DJ-style transitions and old recordings of his voice, but the album’s no requiem; it’s a joyous, funky, and texturally dynamic record bursting with soul samples, warm studio instrumentation, and a range of complicated emotions. Although plenty of features are sprinkled throughout, each guest works in service of Kenny’s larger mission: to create a universe both solemn and celebratory, comprising abstract rhythms and melodic detours, unexpected transitions and cohesive eclecticism. With each listen, the universe expands, unveiling new details and surprises lodged within his sample-based beats.

Early on, Louie soaks in the sun, assembling songs from pitched vocals, mangled guitars, warm Rhodes, and live horns. “Hold My Head” blends an exuberant singing sample with high-octane drums and a string of inscrutable bars from Pink Siifu . Two other early highlights, “So They Say” and “Hooper,” mesh giddy percussive grooves with retro soul harmonies. These songs don’t climax as much as they constantly bend into new, playful variations: a waft of wistful keys, a jolt of digitized effects, a barely audible vocal chant that propels the beat toward conclusion. Even when Kenny does his best J Dilla and Madlib impressions—like on the Shades of Blue -indebted “Moire” or the Donuts -inspired “Drop 10”—his creations are idiosyncratic. A quirky, bouncy bassline, a crisp doubled snare, a custom-made saw synth; Louie ’s stuffed with little treasures like this, subtle choices that feel like diamonds when you unearth them.

Though the album is mostly instrumental, Kenny incorporates his guests in unique and deceptive ways. On the mid-album standout “Still,” JPEGMAFIA shouts energetic catchphrases over a simple drum line and tender backing vocals from Omar Apollo . Just as JPEG launches into a verse, though, the beat cuts out and stalls into a grainy sample. “Get Around” features Dijon , whose layered cries undergird twangy guitars and musky breaks, his voice a mere stitch within the song’s intricate tapestry. It’s rare for producers to deploy vocal talent in such an oblique manner, but Kenny weds his crate-digging affinities with his collaborative impulses, adding the artists’ most compelling strengths to his overflowing cauldron of sounds and samples.

The sequencing on Louie leaves something to be desired. The first 10 songs feel like their own contained album, wrapping up with the elegiac “Eternal,” which flips a Shira Small deep cut into a gorgeous ode to the afterlife. The record’s B-side more actively weaves in recordings of Kenny’s father, adopting an FM-radio framework and musings on childhood and the past that are rarely seen in the preceding songs. It’s a forgivable incongruity, though, because the beats in the back half are consistently excellent and build upon the record’s foundation. “Really Really” is another flawless emulation of Dilla, while “Rotten” mimics a Voodoo -era D’Angelo number. There’s not a skip in sight; each song collages into the next, changing in pace and tone while cycling through obscure samples and inventive backbeats.

Louie closes on “Hot Hand,” a percussive, chant-laden song that synthesizes the emotions burbling below the album’s surface. It’s designed to make you clap, stomp, dance—anything that lets you lose yourself inside the elasticity of the rhythm. What’s more healing, more affirming, than this sort of communion? Kenny thought he needed to have something to say before putting out a record; turns out the message was always there, just waiting to be channeled into a series of ecstatic grooves.

Joji With Kenny Beats, Lil Toe (Ammo) and SavageRealm

Joji is bringing his 22-city U.S. arena tour “Pandemonium Tour”, with special guest Kenny Beats, to the United Center on October 20! They will also be joined by Lil Toe (Ammo) and SavageRealm.

Joji’s third album, SMITHEREENS (2022) reached #1 on both the Billboard Top Alternative Albums and reached #5 on the Billboard 200. Lead single “Glimpse of Us” became his highest-charting single upon its debut, reaching #8on the Billboard Hot 100and the #9 spot on Mediabase’s Top 40 chart as his first-ever top 40 radio record. The song has also received an RIAA platinum certification in the US.      

His second album, Nectar (2020) reached #3 on the US Billboard 200 and #1 on the ARIA Australian Albums. The certified Gold album saw Joji collaborate with such popular artists as Diplo, Omar Apollo, Lil Yachty, and Yves Tumor.

The following approved process will be implemented at the United Center for the General Admission (GA) pit:

• WRISTBAND DISTRIBUTION TIMES: At 9 a.m. on show day, guests will receive a numbered wristband. This represents the order they will be lined up in to access the GA area. Numbered wristbands will be distributed until 4:30 pm.
• WHO NEEDS A NUMBERED WRISTBAND:  Please note that numbered wristbands are only required if a guest would prefer to have first access to the standing room floor. A numbered wristband is not needed if a guest doesn't have a preference on where they will stand on the floor.
• LOCATION: Fans will only receive wristbands from a credentialed United Center security employee at Gate 5.
• LEAVING PRIVILEGES: Once the wristband is received, guests are free to leave and return to Gate 5 no later than 4:30 p.m.
• RETURNING TIME: All guests with a wristband must return to the United Center and be lined up in order by 4:30 p.m. to have wristband number honored.
• LATE ARRIVAL: If a guest with a numbered wristband arrives after 4:30 p.m., the guest will be placed in line after the last guest in line. Guests without wristbands arriving after 4:30 pm will also be placed in line after the last guest in line.
• ONE PROCESS: This is the only process approved for GA entry. No additional arrangements can be honored at this time.

**Please note- you must have your ticket to obtain a wristband and only one wristband per person.

** All guests with general admission tickets must enter though Gate 5.

Public Transportation

Take the Orange, Green, Purple, or Brown lines to Madison. Take #20 Madison buses west.

To the United Center : The #19 United Center Express Bus runs on game days. Service begins 90 minutes prior to game time, runs every 10 minutes until 30 minutes until start of game. Board at stops starting southbound on Michigan and Randolph. Connections are made with Metra trains at Millennium Station, Ogilvie Center and Union Station. The #20 Madison Bus travels west on Madison Street, starting downtown at Wabash Street and runs every few minutes, making all stops to the United Center.

From the United Center : The #19 United Center Express and the #20 Madison buses run every few minutes, departing from the eastbound side of Madison Street. Buses make all stops.

Suites Parking

Two reserved parking passes will be valid in lots C and K. The other two reserved parking passes will be for parking in lots A, B, D, or L. Holders of these passes will be directed to A, B, D, or L lots by traffic police and parking attendants based on traffic conditions. Parking passes are good for one space each. All parking passes are mobile entry only.

For all special events, each Executive Suite Holder will receive two complimentary parking passes per event ordered. These two passes will be for reserved parking located in lots C and K. In addition, Executive Suite Holders will also receive the option to purchase four additional parking passes in lots C and K for special events.

Suite Holder parking passes are also valid for buses or limousines under specific guidelines.

Lexus Club Parking

Lexus Club Seat members have reserved parking in fenced, well-lit and clearly marked parking lots adjacent to the United Center for all Blackhawks or Bulls preseason, regular season and playoff games. All Lexus Club members who purchase tickets to other events may also purchase one preferred parking pass (in lot C or K) for such events. Details on how to obtain parking for other events are included with the fax transmission announcing each event.

Lexus Club Seat members with two to four tickets receive a complimentary, reserved parking space in a closed-in, paved lot for all Blackhawks or Bulls preseason, regular season and playoff games. Lexus Club Seat members with five seats or more will be provided with two parking passes.

UBER ZONE FAQs:

What is the Uber Zone (Lot E) at the United Center? To increase and streamline the fan experience for guests who take Uber to and from the United Center, the new Uber Zone is located at the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street (Lot E) and will combine the three former Uber locations around the arena. Traffic leading to the three prior Uber pickup locations 1) Zone A, previously located on Wood Street & Washington Blvd. near Lot A, 2) Zone D, previously located on Monroe Street & S. Paulina Street near Lot D and 3) Zone F, previously located on Monroe Street & Seeley Ave. near Lot F will now be directed towards the one new Uber Zone in Lot E.

What is the location of the Uber Zone? The new Uber Zone at the United Center is located on the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street. Fans will enter and exit through the sidewalk entrance located on Madison Street and cars will enter the lot by turning into the Uber Zone from Madison Street. Cars will exit on Warren Blvd.

What are the hours of operation? On event days, the Uber Zone is open two hours prior to games, concerts and events and will remain open up to one hour after each event. On non-event days, the Uber Zone will be closed and Uber rides will be dropped off near the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street outside of the Uber Zone.

What is the pickup process for fans?

• Using the Uber app, fans inside the United Center will call an Uber ride.
• Guests will then head to the new Uber Zone located at the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street in front of the United Center.
• When arriving, fans will show the Uber attendant the lane number their driver is in.
• Fans will be shown the location where their Uber vehicle is located to start their next journey.

What is the dropoff process for fans? When Uber drivers arrive with guests at the United Center, they will be instructed to pull into the Uber Zone from the Madison Street side to drop off fans. Once exiting the vehicle, guests will walk out of the main entrance located on the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street. Guests can cross the street to the United Center and are encouraged to enter through the East Atrium.

Lead single “Glimpse of Us” became his highest-charting single upon its debut, reaching # 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the #9 spot on Mediabase’s Top 40 chart as his first-ever top 40 radio record. The song has also received an RIAA platinum certification in the US.

K enny Chesney has just kicked off his Sun Goes Down Tour and just played a lively set in Tampa, Florida at Raymond James Stadium this past weekend. With a couple of tour dates down, we’ve got a pretty good idea of what fans can expect from the country star’s setlist for this tour. And if you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, we’ll help you score last-minute seats as well.

The setlist for Chesney’s Sun Goes Down Tour contains your typical medley of his best hits, but the “I Go Back” singer got a little creative this time around. The next stop on the Kenny Chesney 2024 Tour will be on April 27 in Charlotte, North Carolina at Bank of America Stadium. The tour is expected to close on August 25 in Boston, Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium.

Kip Keino Classic 2024: Kenny Bednarek wins 100m as Katzberg, Moraa, Lindsey and Ndori set world leads

Kenny Bednarek showed exactly why he wants to double up at Paris 2024 by winning the 100m at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi on Saturday (20 April).

As the rain lashed down inside the Nyayo National Stadium, the American upstaged home favourite Ferdinand Omanyala by powering clear to win in 9.91 seconds with a following wind of 2.2m/s, just above the legal limit.

Emmanuel Matadi of Liberia was second in 9.99 with Britain's Jeremiah Azu clocking 10.00 in third. Italy's Chituru Ali (10.01) was fourth with Omanyala only fifth in 10.03.

Olympic 200m world silver medallist Bednarek had opened his season with a half-lap victory in Florida over Christian Coleman two weeks ago before being edged out in last weekend's Tom Jones Memorial 100m by Noah Lyles .

Bednarek's was one of several world lead performances at the second World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting of 2024, which was dry until a downpour near the close of proceedings.

In a star-studded men's hammer competition, world champion Ethan Katzberg made the best possible start to the Paris 2024 Olympic year.

The Canadian produced a fifth-round effort of 84.38m, the longest throw in almost 16 years and over three metres beyond his previous personal best, to win comfortably from Ukraine's Mykhaylo Kokhan (80.76m)

Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki (79.14m) was third with another Pole, five-time world champion Pawel Fajdek (75.82m), in fourth.

World champion Mary Moraa was hugely impressive as she delighted the home fans by taking victory on her seasonal debut over 800m.

The 23-year-old led after the pacemaker dropped out, and stayed well clear of her rivals to cross the line in a world lead 1:57.96. Uganda's former world champion Halimah Nakaayi finished in fifth place.

Bayapo Ndori, Courtney Lindsey and Emmanuel Wanyonyi light up the track in Nairobi

There was another world lead in the men's 400m as Botswana's Bayapo Ndori improved his personal best by half a second to 44.10.

USA's Bryce Deadmon was second in 44.41 with Ndori's compatriot Leungo Scotch also running a personal best of 44.54 in third.

Courtney Lindsey posted a big personal best to edge out Botswana's Letsile Tebogo in the 200m.

The American led from the start and ran a fine bend, but world silver medallist Tebogo was closing all the way to the line. A photo finish would be required with Lindsey's dip proving decisive as both men stopped the clock in 19.71.

That was 0.14 inside Lindsey's previous best, and well inside the 2024 world lead he set last Friday at the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida.

The Gambia's Gina Bass ran 11.33 to take the women's 100m with Tokyo 2020 200m silver medallist Christine Mboma of Namibia, in her first race for over 18 months, eighth in 12.32.

Teenager Reynold Cheruiyot had to dig deep in the men's 1500m, holding off Brian Komen to win in a world lead 3:31.96.

Hours after world 800m champion Marco Arop set a world lead at the Xiamen Diamond League, Emmanuel Wanyonyi eclipsed it by just four-hundredths of a second on home soil.

The 19-year-old world silver medallist won in 1:43.57 from Aaron Cheminingwa with Tokyo 2020 runner-up Ferguson Rotich in third place.
