V před­chozích ročnících Prague Sounds poskytl fes­ti­val pros­tor začí­na­jícím uměl­cům, kteří sto­jí v popředí hip hopové a urban scény a tře­ba takoví Ghost­po­et a Young Fathers se v násle­du­jících letech po svém pražském vys­toupení stali velký­mi hvěz­da­mi. Letos se pozornost upíná na brit­ského rap­pera Kofi­ho Stonea. Nar­o­dil se ve východ­ním Londýně a vyrostl v Birm­ing­hamu, zau­jal brit­sk­ou hip hopovou smetánku (jeho zapřisáh­lým fanouškem je i Loyle Carn­er, který Stonea na začátku letošního roku poz­val na společné turné) i hudeb­ní fanoušky svým stylem, v němž se snoubí hudeb­ní obje­vi­tel­ský naturel, úcta k his­torii žán­ru, osvěžu­jící pří­močarost a oso­bitý lyrický pohled na svět.

Stone přišel na scénu v roce 2017 se sin­glem Sto­ries in Pyja­mas a v roce 2019 vydal své deb­u­tové album Nobody Cares Till Every­body Does. Na albu hos­to­vali Carn­er a další brit­ské hip hopové hvězdy Mav­er­ick Sabre a Ady Suleiman, díky čemuž okamžitě zpo­zorněla i kri­ti­ka. Stone na albu přináší charak­ter­i­stický zvuk s vlivy old­schoolu z počátku 90. let, jaz­zové sam­ply a svůd­nou vypravěčsk­ou flow. V jed­notlivých sklad­bách vypráví svůj živ­ot­ní příběh počí­na­je dět­ský­mi prob­lémy a složitým rodin­ným zázemím a konče jeho vzes­tu­pem na výs­luní, o kterém se však vyjadřu­je s poko­rou a nadhle­dem. Stone tak reprezen­tu­je vypravěčsk­ou for­mu hip hopu, jež se obe­jde bez gang­ster­ských berliček a jde rov­nou k pod­statě sdělení.

Stone se vypra­co­v­al od bat­tle rapu na hřišti přes busk­ing s přenos­ným repro­duk­torem a mikro­fonem v ulicích Birm­ing­hamu až po vlast­ní kon­cer­ty v klubech. Jeho umělecká integri­ta, cílevě­do­most i tal­ent jsou nezpochyb­nitel­né. In pre­vi­ous years of Prague Sounds, the fes­ti­val has giv­en a plat­form to emerg­ing artists at the fore­front of the hip-hop and urban scenes – Ghost­po­et and Young Fathers, for exam­ple, went on to become major stars in the years fol­low­ing their appear­ances in Prague. This year, we put the spot­light on British rap­per Kofi Stone: born in East Lon­don and raised in Birm­ing­ham, Stone has caught the ear of UK hip-hop roy­al­ty (Loyle Carn­er is an avowed fan and invit­ed Stone to tour with him ear­li­er this year) and music fans alike with a style that mar­ries musi­cal­i­ty and respect for the his­to­ry of the genre with a refresh­ing­ly pos­ture-free direct­ness and an hon­est, per­son­al lyri­cal perspective. 

Stone arrived on the scene in 2017 with the sin­gle ​ ‘ Sto­ries in Pyja­mas,’ and released his debut album Nobody Cares Till Every­body Does in 2019. The album fea­tured guest appear­ances from Carn­er and fel­low stars of the UK scene Mav­er­ick Sabre and Ady Suleiman, and caused crit­ics to sit up and take notice. It estab­lished Stone’s sig­na­ture sound, with its ear­ly-90s old-school influ­ences, jazz sam­ples and inflec­tions, and beguil­ing sto­ry­telling flow. Tak­ing inspi­ra­tion from his child­hood strug­gles and fam­i­ly back­ground, and reflect­ing on his rise to promi­nence with humil­i­ty and insight, the album show­cas­es a nar­ra­tive-dri­ven form of hip-hop that dis­pens­es with gang­ster trap­pings and gets to the heart of things.

Hav­ing worked his way up from play­ground rap bat­tles and busk­ing with a boom­box and a micro­phone on the streets of Birm­ing­ham, Stone’s integri­ty and per­sis­tence are not in ques­tion. And nei­ther is his tal­ent. This is a chance to expe­ri­ence up-close an artist who is sure­ly des­tined for great things.

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

He didn't take shortcuts and really covered everything that was on the agenda in great detail. We saw beautiful metro stations and learned the history behind them, including many of the murals and designs.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour took over Houston in 2023. Can The Rolling Stones top it?

T he Rolling Stones tour is set to make a stop at NRG Stadium Sunday for the band’s first Houston concert since 2019. The performance comes on the heels of an album release by another music legend — Taylor Swift — whose three-day stop in Houston one year ago received shows of appreciation from fans and elected officials alike.

With the Stones' Hackney Diamonds Tour underway and Swift's 11th studio album , "The Tortured Poets Department,” that dropped last week, both music industry icons maintain dedicated fanbases worldwide. 

The 1960s rock n' roll band has been performing for decades. The Stones hold a record for drawing one of the largest crowds in rock n’ roll history during a show in Rio de Janeiro , with 1.5 million people, PBS reported. Swift is no stranger to large crowds either, with one of her shows in Melbourne seeing more than 96,000 people, according to Deadline. 

However, both music artists made their mark in Houston during their most recent concerts: the Stones' No Filter Tour in 2019 and Swift's Eras Tour in 2023. The success of their concerts highlighted their strong fanbases in the Bayou City.

How did the city react to The Rolling Stones' 2019 concert?

Excited fans first caught on to the Rolling Stones’ planned 2019 Houston concert when NRG Park teased the tour stop in an email. Park officials sent an email to subscribers with the band's logo at the end of the email and no further explanation.

The 2019 show would be the Stones’ first Houston appearance in more than 10 years. The group even teamed up with the NFL for a Houston Texans—Rolling Stones jersey.

NRG Stadium officials said the venue is happy to have the band back any time.

"We're thrilled to host the legendary Rolling Stones at NRG Stadium as the first stop on their Hackney Diamonds Tour. As Mick Jagger might say, 'Start me up' – and what better place to kick off this iconic tour than right here in Houston? We look forward to welcoming fans from near and far to enjoy a night of timeless rock 'n' roll classics. Get ready to rock the night away at NRG Stadium!" stadium officials said in a statement.

A marketing campaign was launched to temporarily rename NRG Stadium to "NRG Stadium - Taylor's Version," initiated by NRG Park and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo's office. Banners were placed with the temporary name on the stadium's north and south entrances.

The City Hall also honored Swift and her mother, a University of Houston alum, by lighting the building in a “lavender haze.”
