"Montenegro is little country packed with hidden gems; a day spent exploring the natural beauty of the mountainous coastline or the delightful old cities is never disappointing"
Evana, Travel Director
Explore the labyrinthine lanes and small squares of Budva
Budva is a gorgeous seaside town and a Montenegro must see, with medieval history dating back more than 2,500 years. We’ll go beyond the fortress walls surrounding the town and delve into the maze of alleyways and squares. From ancient churches to modern boutiques, there are endless treasures to find.
Soak up Montenegro's natural beauty
Montenegro is an incredibly beautiful country, and the natural scenery is the highlight of any Montenegro travel experience. We’ll take it all in, from the turquoise waters and white sands on the Adriatic coastline, to the glacial lakes and forested mountains of Durmitor National Park.
Climb Kotor's Castle of San Giovanni
The looming walls of Kotor’s Castle of San Giovanni offer phenomenal views over the Bay of Kotor and the region. We’ll climb 1,350 stairs to get to the top of the medieval fortress, and with plenty of history and incredible lookouts, it’s one of the most rewarding things to do in Montenegro.
Relax on Budva's stunning beaches
The beaches of Budva are one of the most beloved Montenegro tourist attractions. There are 17 beaches across a 38 kilometre shoreline, with dazzling azure waters lining the golden sands. Our Local Specialists will show you the best beaches where you can soak up the sun.
Visit the Podmaine Monastery
Located near the coastal town of Budva, Podmaine Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery, with a complex of two churches dating back to the 15th century. It was built by a noble family, with pink and cream stone and painted frescoes inside, including a Judgement Day scene.
Our top 5 things to do in Montenegro
We’ll show you the best of Montenegro, from the sandy beaches and ancient walls of Budva to the incredible natural beauty across the country.
Dvorac Petrovića
Built in 1891, Dvorac Petrovića was the winter residence of King Nikola I, the last king of Montenegro. Today, it’s an excellent gallery, with around 1,500 contemporary art pieces from Montenegrin and international artists. You’ll also get a glimpse of the life of the king, with collections of weapons and royal decorations.
Natural History Museum of Montenegro Podgorica
Discover Montenegrin fossils, flora and fauna at the Natural History Museum of Montenegro in Podgorica. You’ll learn about the history of the planet and see the impressive collection of taxidermized animals with birds, insects, bears, wolves and the blue whale.
Duklja ruins
Located just outside Podgorica, the Duklja ruins are the site of an ancient Roman town, thought to be founded at the start of the 1st century. It was once the most important urban centre in Montenegro, and you can wander the stony remnants of towers, bastions and wall fortifications.
Best museums in Montenegro
A Montenegro holiday with Trafalgar takes you to the country’s top museums, from a former royal residence, to the site of an ancient Roman town.
Punjene paprike
Punjene paprike is a classic dish across the Balkans, and the Montenegrin version is made from courgettes or capsicum filled with minced meat, rice, tomato sauce, eggs and spices. It’s a tantalising mix of flavours and the perfect comfort food in Montenegro.
One of the most beloved dishes in the country, cufte is Montenegrin meatballs in a warm tomato sauce. Typically served with mashed potatoes, vegetables, and a sprinkling of chopped parsley, cufte is absolutely delicious.
Đuveč is one of the most traditional dishes in Montenegro’s. It’s a stew or casserole, made from meat (often veal), vegetables and rice, and served in a large bowl to let the flavours combine. Our Local Specialists will show you the best local restaurants to taste this local delicacy.
Best food in Montenegro
Our Montenegro holidays will introduce you to the best Montenegro food, from the coastal seafood to the hearty meat and potato dishes of the mountains.
What to pack for Montenegro
Montenegro is lined with heavenly beaches and golden sands. Bring a swimsuit and enjoy a swim in the dazzling Adriatic sea.
Montenegro is a famous stop for mega yachts, so bring your deck shoes if you’d like to explore the yachts of the glamorous Porto Montenegro.

8 Days Scenic Montenegro Cruise
We were a group of 10 friends who decided to go on a gulet cruise in Montenegro. The idea was to see the beautiful Adriatic Sea and to spend our time on the boat. We booked a gulet through a company called Boutique cruises. We were really satisfied with their service.

Comfortable Heartland of Montenegro Trip
Montenegro is an underrated gem! The tour was perfect even though the weather wasn't at all times, but Borislav, our tour escort made sure we plan our day such that we make most of the sunny days as well as enjoy the rainy ones. The tour was well organized, well paced, communication was great and we were well taken care of at every step. We'd love to visit again someday cause 8 days isn't enough to explore this beautiful country!

Excellent way to explore Montenegro aboard a gulet!
Montenegro: Adriatic Secret Gulet Cruise - from Kotor
What a trip, we can't say enough wonderful things to say! Our first trip on a small boat and we could never go back to a large cruise ship again. The crew was outstanding and each port was an adventure. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a low key, relaxed trip.
Comfortable Montenegro Discovery
Montenegro was a beautiful country and having a private guide was an awesome way to experience many parts of it. Bogdan was a calm and competent driver on the steep and winding roads, and shared restaurant recommendations and anecdotes about the country, as well as some laughs with us. We had the good fortune to accept an offer to switch our last two nights to Cetinje, a beautiful town that it was great to explore as it was very different from Budva, which we also very much enjoyed. There were too many beautiful parts of the tour to list and if anything, the agenda is overly ambitious, but we were able to discuss and scale back and make sure we still saw what we most wanted. The one thing I'd mention that was a surprise to us was how unbelievably crowded Kotor and the Ostrog Monastery were. All our other adventures were MUCH more relaxed.

Montenegro Discovery - Hiking Holiday, 8 days 7 nights
Our guide, Nemanja, was excellent and made us feel like family. He was also our driver and made detours to make our trip extra special. Very thoughtful and kind. He knew the trails well and explained the historical elements well. We truly enjoyed every aspect of this trip. The information and coordination before the trip was deplorable. Tour Radar and Nature Trips did not get us the necessary vouchers and information until two days before our trip. Tour Radar really let the ball drop and it took us going onto FB and looking up the WhatsApp number and calling Nature Trips directly to get the necessary information. I would give Tour Radar a failing grade but Nemanja and his agency an excellent.

Montenegro Sailing - Dubrovnik to Dubrovnik
An incredible experience from start to finish! Montenegro is stunning and travelling on a boat it gave us a totally different outlook on this amazing part of the world. Toni our captain was not just incredible at his job but also such a really nice guy who really took the time to tell us what to do in each of the marinas we docked in and also gave us a lot of useful information that made the experience even better. I am contemplating doing the same tour next year :-)

Montenegro Tours & Vacations
Montenegro boasts a stunning stretch of Mediterranean coastline, gorgeous tucked-away mountain hamlets and charming small-town affability.
It probably comes as no surprise that Montenegro is rapidly emerging as one of the world’s fastest-growing tourist destinations. Hit buzzing Budva during the two-month summer season and you’ll likely be beggared by the antics of Eastern Europe’s well-heeled pleasure seekers. Yet venture beyond the glitz and be rightly rewarded with pristine natural landscapes and rustic towns oozing old-European charm. Subtle but seductive, stylish and schmick, this new kid on the Balkans block is fast moving to the top of its class.

Learn more about Montenegro
Best time to visit montenegro.
Party to both Mediterranean summers and Balkan winters, the question of when to visit Montenegro really depends on what you’re after. The months of July and August, referred to locally – and somewhat dramatically – as ‘the Season’ sees coastal tourism at full-throttle with beaches, hotels and restaurants packed out by Europe’s summer sun seekers. As a result, either side of this period is the best time for a visit with May, June, September and October still enjoying balmy days, pleasant evenings and warm waters.
November through to April is the winter period when inland temperature can drop to below freezing, but it also marks the opening of the country’s ski runs and the coast can present a scenic (and quiet) getaway for the less adventurous.
Geography and environment
Montenegro’s slim 182 mile-long coastline quickly develops into inland plains before rising to forested mountain peaks – some of Europe’s most rugged – along the country’s borders with Serbia and Albania .
Top 5 creatures in Montenegro
Fairytale and soft-toy enthusiasts will be thrilled to learn that Montenegro is home to a stable population of European brown bears. Eternally vying with its polar cousin for the uber-cool title of ‘world’s largest land-based predator’, you may not like to encounter one unexpectedly (extremely unlikely), but it’s fun to know that they’re plodding about somewhere not too far off.
As the most widely distributed large mammal on the planet, it’s probably not overly surprising to hear that the country boasting Europe’s highest index of species per area unit should also have its share of grey wolves – even if the government has made it legal to hunt them.
Much like the tourists who descend on the country’s beaches during July and August, these curious and cheeky critters can sometimes be spotted breaching the surface of Montenegro’s freshwater lakes or basking by their shores. So well-liked are these little guys that in 2011, the Montenegrin Ministry of Culture launched ‘Otter Fest 2011’: a festival promoting the development of Skadar Lake’s local communities, which draws attention to its endangered otter population.
Probably the fluffiest of Montenegro’s wildlife, but with a dwindling population thought to be less than 100 due to illegal poaching, the Balkan lynx is only very rarely spotted in the remote mountainous region of the country’s east.
5. Golden eagles
Proudly emblazoned on the country’s flag, the majestic golden eagle is sometimes spied scouring its skies. One of the best-known birds of prey, it’s certainly one of the most powerful hunters, with reported sightings of sheep and goats being snatched up, and one confirmed account of a brown bear cub being carried off!

About Montenegro
Montenegro is a small country that is set in the Balkan peninsula and is considered to be the last undiscovered place of Europe.
In just 13.812 square kilometers of land it has it all. The warm Adriatic sea, splendid lakes and high mountain peaks.
It is a place with untouched nature where outdoor enthusiast can find their share of activities.
But also regarding the cultural treasure it is one of the most unique places, seldom can you find a country with different religions coexisting and creating a mixed heritage like in Montenegro.
When you come to the country you feel like it is your second home because the locals make you feel at ease and welcome! They will bring you to their table and offer you the best local gastronomical delight.
They've Said About Us...
I highly recommend Nomad Tours Montenegro. They promised me a “perfect balance between exploration, exhilaration and relaxation” on my 7-day Classic Tour and they delivered! As a matter of fact, they exceeded my expectations! Small group, BIG adventures is spot on!
Fun, friendly and knowledgable guides. Amazing locations. Local experiences. What more could you want! I did a 3 day V.I.P tour with Pavle, who was an incredible guided and helped me understand Montenegro like a local. He was a great person to explore with and it felt like we were traveling as friends together, rather than just in a tour group. I love the local travel philosophy Nomad is sharing, and highly recommend them to anyone seeking a more culturally immersive experience.
I had an amazing journey through Montenegro with Pavle. He make sure to share all the best of his country with you and you can feel his passion. It‘s well work inquiring about optional/ additional activities upfront – they will make sure to meet your wishes. You can expect full days, packed with sights, information and things you would not be able to do on your own (like the winery tour). For me personally, I could have wished for some more physical activities. Again, a perfect outdoor day in Zabljak was arranged for me and when we asked to walk instead of driving, our wish was fulfilled.
Quite frankly, Nomad Tours is the best option to know Montenegro entirely. Savvy tour guides with information not only historical but fun facts. They know both owners and managers of the best restaurants, hotels and everything you need to have the best time in Montenegro. They can adapt to your needs, thus it does not matter if you are there for work or leisure, if you are alone or your your family or your partner, if you want to be in the beach or in the mountains. They will make your trip one if the best experience ms you could have.
Excellent tour. Guide was full of knowledge and very personable. He put a lot of effort into the tour to make sure we got the best out of it. Only thing I would say is that lunch times where not placed well. We did so much during the days, that we weren’t eating til 4pm. But other than that, would highly recommend this trip.
We loved our tour of Montenegro with Pavle from Nomad! We felt like we were travelling with friends rather than a tour guide! Its great discovering new countries with a tour guide who is easy going , informative, passionate and has such a fun & positive vibe! Nomad are flexible and easily accomodate your preferred activity options. We loved our rafting, zip line, hiking, nature and mountain bike adventures.

Visit Montenegro
Whilst primarily known for its idyllic beaches, the small and independent country of Montenegro has far more to offer its visitors. Fortified towns line the coast and no fewer than five national parks protect all that is best of its abundant and largely unspoiled natural beauty.
Its mountains form the buffer with its neighbours, with Serbia to the north from whom independence was gained just a few years ago in 2006. The towns, despite the ravages of the recent Balkan conflict, retain some original architecture, the result of Roman, Venetian and Ottoman influences, and a number of interesting museums, galleries and churches for you to peruse. The Adriatic coastline though is dotted with picture-postcard villages and towns hugging the seaboard and rising up the hills behind: Ulcinj, Budva and Kotor, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Mountains & Marvels of Montenegro
Touring Montenegro from medieval towns to Mediterranean bays, via Europe’s most southerly fjord and its last virgin forest, this journey explores the ancient history of the young country, revealing its culture, customs and cuisine, at a relaxed, refreshing pace.
