Costume contest rules.

Get tickets to a Friday performance during the month of October and enter the in-person costume contest.

Head to the Marquis Theatre starting 45 minutes before the performance to get a photo of your costume taken by a BEETLEJUICE staff member – group costumes are welcome! Be ready to show your tickets to the BEETLEJUICE staff member.

Winner will receive a package of strange and unusual swag.

The costumes will be judged during the performance, and the winner will be announced on-stage during the curtain call.

Follow these rules (or you're dead to us). Contest entries will be accepted between 7:15 pm ET and 7:45 pm ET on October 7, 14, 21, and 28, 2022. Entries may include groups of up to six (6) people. Every person entered into the contest, including members of a group, must provide proof of their ticket to that evening's performance. Entries must not include content from Beetlejuice the movie. Costumes may not obstruct the view of another audience member, and must fit within the reasonable boundaries of your seat. No simulated, costume or functional weapons are allowed at BEETLEJUICE the Musical. Full-face masks are also prohibited. Hate speech (in any language) is not permitted on attire or props. Shoes must be worn at all times. No nudity. Judging criteria: originality/creativity (40%), adherence to the creative world of BEETLEJUICE the Musical (40%) and overall quality of costume(s) (20%).

Head to the 7th Avenue side of the theatre (between 50th St. and 51st St.) starting 45 minutes before the performance to get a photo of your costume taken by a BEETLEJUICE staff member – group costumes are welcome! Be ready to show your tickets to the BEETLEJUICE staff member.

During the performance, the cast will choose a winner.

After the show, the winner(s) will have a photo taken with the cast.

After its first public performance in Paducah, KY, the tour will officially launch in December at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco.

Full casting and the 2022-23 tour route have been announced for the North American Tour of Beetlejuice the Musical. After its first public performance in Paducah, KY, the tour will officially launch in December at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco, CA before haunting 27 cities across North America with more dates to be announced shortly.

The full touring production cast will include Michael Biren , Ryan Breslin , Juliane Godfrey , Morgan Harrison , Matthew Michael Janisse , Kenway Ho Wai K. Kua, Sean McManus , Lee N Price , Nevada Riley , Trevor Michael Schmidt , Lexie Dorsett Sharp and CorBen Williams . Based on Tim Burton 's dearly beloved film, BEETLEJUICE tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice , a demon with a thing for stripes. When Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away anyone with a pulse, this double-crossing specter unleashes a (Nether)world of pandemonium, and the biggest sandworm Broadway has ever seen.

BEETLEJUICE is directed by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge!, director of Warner Bros. forthcoming TOTO, the animated musical film adaptation of Michael Morpurgo and Emma Chichester Clark's 2017 book) with an original score by Tony Award nominee Eddie Perfect (King Kong); a book by Tony Award nominee Scott Brown ("Castle Rock") and Tony and Emmy Award nominee Anthony King ("Robbie"); music supervision, orchestrations and incidental music by Kris Kukul (Joan of Arc: Into the Fire); and choreography by Connor Gallagher (The Robber Bridegroom).

BEETLEJUICE features scenic design by three-time Tony Award nominee David Korins (Hamilton); costume design by six-time Tony Award winner William Ivey Long (The Producers); lighting design by Tony Award winner Kenneth Posner (Kinky Boots); sound design by Tony Award winner Peter Hylenski (Moulin Rouge!); projection design by Tony Award nominee and Drama Desk Award winner Peter Nigrini (Dear Evan Hansen); puppet design by Drama Desk Award winner Michael Curry (The Lion King); special effects design by Jeremy Chernick (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), hair and wig design by Drama Desk Award nominee Charles G. BEETLEJUICE opened at Broadway's Winter Garden Theatre on Thursday, April 25, 2019, presented by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures ( Mark Kaufman ) and Langley Park Productions (Kevin McCormick), and won the Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for David Korins ' scenic design and was nominated for eight Tony Awards including Best New Musical. BEETLEJUICE had a history making run on Broadway - following the release of the musicals original Broadway cast recording and Tony Awards appearance, the box office exploded, making it the surprise hit of the 2018/2019 season. BEETLEJUICE's Tony Awards performance has gone on to be the most watched musical number from the broadcast with over 3,921,530 views. BEETLEJUICE became a sensation with fans everywhere including on TikTok, which lead to an additional burst of ticket sales from a new audience for Broadway, making the musical one of the top grossing shows on Broadway, going on to break the Winter Garden box office record. The smash hit musical BEETLEJUICE played 366 performances at the Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway before being shuttered with the rest of Broadway on March 12, 2020. BEETLEJUICE returned triumphantly to Broadway with performances on April 8, 2022, at the Marquis Theatre where it continues to haunt Broadway through January 8, 2023.

& Juliet Announces North American Tour

& Juliet is setting out on the road. The jukebox musical’s touring plans were shared on the April 25 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers , during which the Broadway company performed. The multi-year tour will launch in the fall of 2024.

In the tour’s first year, the musical is scheduled to play Charlotte, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

A full tour schedule and casting will be announced.

& Juliet opened at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Nov. 17, 2022. Directed by Luke Sheppard with a book by David West Read, the show reimagines Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet if Juliet had chosen to live after discovering Romeo had died.

Set to a score of pop hits by mega-producer Max Martin,  & Juliet features choreography by Jennifer Weber, musical supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Bill Sherman, with scenic design by Soutra Gilmour, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Howard Hudson, sound design by Gareth Owen, video/projection design by Andrzej Goulding and hair/wig/makeup design by J. Jared Janas. Casting is by Stephen Kopel and Carrie Gardner.

Review: Glitzy and high-flying ‘Aladdin’ tour soars in return visit to San Diego

San Diego ticket-buyers get a lot of bang for their buck in the touring production of the Broadway musical “Aladdin,” now playing through Sunday at the San Diego Civic Theatre.

Directed and choreographed by native San Diegan Casey Nicholaw, the tour boasts 31 singer-dancers, an incredible collection of sparkling Middle Eastern-inspired costumes by Gregg Barnes, also a local native, a brass-enhanced 10-piece orchestra and some dazzling special effects. There’s also a head-spinning number of high-flying and extremely athletic dance scenes — some with drums and veils, some with tap shoes, some with scimitars and some with dinner trays that hide pop-up surprises.

In some ways, things move at such a dizzying pace in the two-hour, 30-minute show, the central love story gets a little lost, particularly in the action-packed second act. But fortunately, lead actors Adi Roy as Aladdin and Senzel Ahmady as Princess Jasmine, have warmth, charisma and strong singing voices. They also have great chemistry, which shines in their magic carpet ride scene (which really is magic — even from the fifth row I couldn’t figure out how they made the soaring rug move and spin).

For those not familiar with “Aladdin,” it’s based on the ancient Arabic story about a poor boy who discovers a genie in a magic lamp and uses his wishes to win the heart of a princess. Disney turned the story into a 1992 animated film that became a 2014 Broadway musical that’s still running today. The musical features seven new songs that weren’t in the film, and only one — “Proud of Your Boy” — is as memorable as the original songs.

Trying to recapture the zany, ad-lib riffing of Robin Williams, who was the voice actor for the genie in the film, musical bookwriter Chad Beguelin gives the stage genie wacky, wide-ranging, motor-mouth monologues that tap into topical references including multiple Disney film songs, Tik-Tok, “Dancing with the Stars,” curly fries, Wakanda and even Grogu (the baby Yoda-like character in “The Mandalorian”).

The tour first visited San Diego in 2019. In its return this week, Marcus R. Martin stars as the Genie. His energetic, hilarious and high note-filled performance reaches its zenith in the nearly 10-minute-long “Friend Like Me” production number that builds and builds.

Sorab Wadia is warm and endearing as Jasmine’s father, the Sultan of Agrabah. Anand Nagraj is wickedly campy as Jafar, the kingdom’s power-hungry vizier and Aaron Choi is intentionally cartoonish as Jafar’s henchmen Iago (transformed from a talking parrot character in the film). Also fun are Colt Prattes, Jake Letts and Nathan Levy as Aladdin’s three buddies.

A nice change from the film, which my own children watched hundreds of times on VHS in the early 1990s, is that there’s no longer the creepy scene where the leering Jafar turns Jasmine into a slave girl he plans to marry himself. There’s also less of Aladdin’s mansplaining. It’s a more enlightened story for a more enlightened time.

I Love You So F***ing Much is the follow-up to 2020’s critically revered Dreamland , which sold over 12 million copies globally and gave life to “ Heat Waves ,” the record-breaking song that became the biggest international hit from a British band in almost 30 years . It was the first song by a British band since the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” in 1995 to claim #1 for five consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 , and the first song to reach #1 with a single writer and producer since Pharell’s “Happy” —leading to the pop world’s biggest acts, including Florence Welch , all wanting to work with Glass Animals frontman, songwriter, and producer, Dave Bayley . But the birth of I Love You So F***ing Much was an existential crisis. Dave found himself struggling to make sense of this newfound global stardom, having watched it all happen while the world was in lockdown.

  He says, “Life can change dramatically, but sometimes you aren’t able to change as quickly on a personal level. You end up feeling like a spectator. And then you are asked and expected to be a certain type of person, a different person. But…I wasn’t sure how. It confused me to the point of not knowing who I was or if anything was real.” It took being stranded on a cliff in a wooden house on stilts during one of California’s biggest storms in history to push that feeling into a full existential crisis. In forced isolation, watching trees tumble down mountains and assuming “death was coming,” Dave began asking questions of himself, of the universe, and of the human experience: namely, love. With the musical 'Chicago,' OKC alumnus Katie Frieden brings all that jazz back to Oklahoma

Since she was a little girl, Katie Frieden has adored all that jazz.

"I grew up in a performing arts dance studio in northern Virginia. ... I always loved jazz — always, always loved jazz, anything jazz, any style of jazz," she recalled.

"They really stressed that it's so important to do a lot of ballet, so you can have that technical foundation. ... I did tap, and I did hip hop and contemporary and lyrical and modern and everything. But my favorite was always jazz."

So, starring as Roxie Hart on the 25th anniversary tour of the iconic musical "Chicago" fits Frieden like a slinky flapper dress .

As her almost two-year run with the Tony Award-winning tale of murder, greed and all that jazz winds down, Frieden is bringing the tour's razzle dazzle to her former Sooner State stomping grounds . A 2021 graduate of Oklahoma City University's Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment, she is leading the tour to OKC for its April 9-14 run at Civic Center Music Hall.

"I've always wanted to perform at the Civic Center. It's going to be emotional for me, for sure. I went to go see shows there when I was in college. I remember I sat up in the nosebleeds watching 'Waitress' because they had student rush tickets. And I was like, 'I really, really, really want to come back and perform here one day,'" she recalled.

What is the musical 'Chicago' about?

An add-on special to OKC Broadway's 2023-24 subscription season , "Chicago" is coming to Oklahoma City for the first time in a decade .

Seen by more than 34 million people worldwide, "Chicago" is the second-longest running show in Broadway history, surpassing the British smash "Cats" in 2014.

The longest-running show currently playing on Broadway , "Chicago" is the work of musical theater legends: Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse wrote the book for the show, which boasts music by John Kander , lyrics by Ebb and choreography by Fosse.

Set in the 1920s, "Chicago" follows Roxie Hart (Frieden), a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her lover after he threatens to leave her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly (played by Kailin Brown on the national tour), by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer, Billy Flynn (Connor Sullivan), to transform her ruthless crime into sensational headlines.

Inspired by true events, "Chicago" was originally a 1926 play by journalist Maurine Dallas Watkins . The musical adaptation's original Broadway production bowed in 1975 and starred Chita Rivera as Velma Kelly, Gwen Verdon as Roxie Hart and Jerry Orbach as Billy Flynn. It ran for more than 900 performances and was nominated for 11 Tonys, but was shut out by another dance smash, "A Chorus Line."

It was the 1996 Broadway revival that turned "Chicago" into an iconic song-and-dance spectacle.

Starring Bebe Neuwirth, Joel Grey and Ann Reinking — a Roxie replacement from the original Broadway production who reprised the role and choreographed the show "in the style of Bob Fosse" — it earned six Tonys, including best musical revival.

It's that version of the show, which now holds the record as the longest running American musical in Broadway and West End history, that's being celebrated with the 25th anniversary tour.

Rob Marshall's 2002 movie adaptation also helped cement "Chicago's" place in pop-culture history: Starring Renée Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Richard Gere, it won six Oscars, including best picture.

What makes the musical 'Chicago' so beloved?

Ahead of her anticipated OKC return, Frieden recently chatted with The Oklahoman by phone about what makes the musical "Chicago" so beloved, what she loves about playing Roxie and more:

Q: Why is 'Chicago' your favorite musical?

I grew up watching the movie. But I also went to see the Broadway production when I was in high school with my mom, and I've just always loved the Fosse choreography. We did a lot of Fosse in college with one of our professors, Vincent Sandoval . ... It was always a style that I personally really connected to, just the isolations and the intensity and the artistry of it.

Q: Why do you think 'Chicago' is still so beloved after all this time?

I think people love to see really good dance on stage, which you don't always see in musicals. ... The other thing I think that makes 'Chicago' so lasting is the relevance that it still provides, even now in the 2020s.

It's based off a true story from 100 years ago, was written 50 years ago in the '70s, and then was revived in the '90s. And each time, it has been relevant to the relationship between celebrities and media and how you can manipulate the media. ... In the 1920s, it was newspapers. Now, it's social media.

Q: How did your passion for dance develop?

I started dance classes when I was 4 years old. My mom first put me in it because she said I just couldn't stop moving, and apparently, I actually lied to my preschool teacher that I was in dance class. My preschool teacher said to my mother, 'Oh, I hear Katie's in dance class,' and my mom was like, 'No, she's not.' But I think she knew then that, 'OK, I need to put Katie in dance class.' (laughs)

As long as I can remember that I've been alive, I've been dancing. It's just such a part of who I am. I don't really know how to explain. Dance just fits, and it connects with me. When I hear music, I just want to move, and it feels right. ...

That's what I love about Fosse's choreography is that all the choreography is so entwined with the music. ... I always considered myself a dancer first. But I hadn't realized until doing Roxie that I've been acting my whole life. Through dance, you're always acting, if you're really dancing and not just focused on the technique.

Q: What else have you been up to since you graduated OCU in May 2021?

Right after, I did summer stock in Woodstock, New York, at Woodstock Playhouse, and we did three performances there. But the one show that was really meaningful to me was we did 'Sweet Charity,' where I got to be Charity Hope Valentine, which is another Fosse show and another Gwen Verdon role. ...

After that, I did a Christmas show at the Surflight Theatre in New Jersey . We did 'A Christmas Carol,' where I played Mrs. Cratchit. Then, I was auditioning for a while, and I did this really cool new show that was happening locally in (Washington) D.C. called 'The Bridgerton Experience.'

It was an immersive production based off of the Netflix show 'Bridgerton.' ... I was the performer portrayed after Daphne. So, it was a lot of dancing and balletic movements, with a little bit of acro. (I was) swinging on a chandelier, which I had never done before. ...

I had two days off, and then my contract (with 'Chicago') started. I was fortunate enough to be able to audition during that 'Bridgerton Experience,' and I couldn't believe it when I got Roxie.

Q: What has it meant to be part of the 'Chicago' 25th anniversary tour?

I joined in July of 2022, so it's been almost two years. Last summer, I got to go to Korea with the tour, which was so amazing. We were there for 15 weeks, and I got to perform for a completely different culture. ... It was really incredible. And then I rejoined the tour again, going straight into it for the second year. ...

Every person that's come through the show feels so connected to it and has such deep love for the show. Knowing that I am somehow connected to people like Chita Rivera, Gwen Verdon, Bebe Neuwirth, Ann Reinking, Bob Fossey, it's insane to me, because those are my heroes ...

I hope that, one day, I could come back to 'Chicago' again and come back to Roxie and come at it with a new perspective. But I do think I'm ready for a change.

Q: What are your thoughts on coming back to OKC with 'Chicago?'

We end our tour in May, so after Oklahoma City, I think a lot of our stops are the one-nighters or the split weeks. So, Oklahoma City is like our last big engagement. ...

One thing that I always wanted to do: We would always have alumni that were touring around the country who would come through the Civic Center, and they would often come to teach a master class at our school. ... My dream was, 'One day, I want to be in that position. I want to be that person that comes through.'

I can't believe that only three years later that that's happening to me. So, I am going to be teaching a master class and doing a little Q&A with the students at OCU. ... It's definitely a full-circle moment for me.
