Jain Pilgrimage Tours in India

About the same time as the Buddha was preaching his dharma, and in the same region, another religious tradition was being established. Vardhamana, better known by his title Mahavira (Great Hero) was an elder contemporary of the Buddha. The two teachers had much in common: both were Kshatriyas of royal descent but renounced the worldly life; both rejected caste bathers and questioned the sacredness of the Vedas. Mahavira's fame has been eclipsed by the Buddha's; Jainism, the religion preached by Mahavira, counts more than 3 million adherents in India today, whereas the Buddha's faith has almost twice as many.

The theme of self-conquest, common to many religions, is supremely important to the Jains. The very word Jain is derived from jina (conqueror). Carrying the idea of self-conquest to its extreme, Jainism has become the world's most rigorously ascetic faith. God has little or no place in this system. The popular gods of Hinduism are accepted, but they at placed lower than the jinas, who are regarded as the true focus of deviton.

Mahavira, through usually accepted as the balmier of the faith in the contest of history. is said to be the last of a line of 24 jinas. All of them are said to have attained perfect wisdom (Kaivalya), through different penances, to vanquish desire and break their bomb with the material world. The jinas are also known as Tirthankaras (crossing-makers). The crossing refers to the passage from the material to the spiritual realm, from bondage to freedom.

Islamic Pilgrimage Places

Arab traders came to India as early as the 7th century. After that, Muslim invaders made sporadic raids into India from time to time until, at the end of the 12th century. The first Muslim kingdom was established at Delhi. The Muslims gradually extended their rule eastwards and southwards. The Mughal Empire was founded by Babur in 1506. One of the greatest Mughal emperors was Akbar (1556-1605), whose policy of religious tolerance bought Hindus and Muslims together.

In its first phase, Islamic rule in India was aggressive. But the mystics of Islam, known as Sufis, played an important part in spreading the message of universal love. This message was conveyed most effectively by the classical Persian poets, particularly by Rumi, who expressed the spirit of Sufism through beautiful symbols and images. Persian, not Arabic, was the court language during Muslim rule.

Sikh Pilgrimage Places in India

This process of bringing Hinduism and Islam close to each other was continued by Kabir and Nanak. Born into a Brahman family, Kabir was brought up by Muslim foster-parents. He was a disciple of Ramananda, a famous Hindu saint, but he was also deeply influenced by Sufism and used Sufi terminology in many of his poems. Inspired by Kabir, Guru Nanak (1469-1539) founded the Sikh religion with the avowed purpose of synthesizing Hinduism and Islam. Islam's spirit of brotherhood helped in loosening the rigidity of the caste system.

Nanak came from the Punjab, a region where Hindus and Muslims had come in closer con tact than in any other pan of India. A Hindu by birth and training, Nanak was attracted from his childhood towards Hindu as well as Muslim saints and poets. He visited the sacred places of Hinduism and also made the pilgrimage to makka. He saw the essential teaching of both religions as being the same. Nanak began to preach his message of unity. He attracted many followers and soon came together, and a new religious tradition was born. The term Sikh is derived from the Sanskrit shishya (disciple).

Angad, who succeeded Nanak as the Guru of the Sikhs, started compiling the master's writings. He also introduced a script that was already being used by some Punjabis. He called it Gurmukhi and made it the official script of the Sikhs. Guru Arjun, the fifth in succession, started building the temple at Amritsar that later became the holiest of Sikh shrines. Arjun also systematised the collection of sacred hymns and poems by Nanak, Kabir and other saints. This collection became the holy scripture of the Sikhs. It is known as Adi Granth (The First Book), or Granth Sahib (Book of the Lord).

Christians and Jews in India

According to a strong tradition prevalent in the South, Christianity in India is as old as Saint Thomas, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ. The saint is said to have spent a few years near Chennai and to have died there. Other legends describe Saint Bartholomew as the first Christian missionary in India. Latin historians in the Middle Ages made frequent references to Christian settlements in India. However, Christian missionary activity from the West began with the arrival of Saint Francis Xavier in 1542.

His tomb in Goa is still visited by thousands of Catholics every year.

Saint Francis Xavier was succeeded by Portuguese missionaries. Some of them visited Akbar's court, and even entertained the hope of converting the emperor. Other Catholic countries soon began to send missionaries to India. In the 18th century, Protestant missionaries, especially from Denmark, Holland and Germany, started their work in India.

The British conquest naturally gave the Anglican Church an advantage over others. William Carey and Alexander Duff played key roles in establishing Christianity. Carey founded the Seminary at Serampore. Alexander Duff came to India in 1830 and continued Carey's work. Throughout the 19th century, Catholic as well as Protestant missionaries, besides preaching Christian doctrines, made contributions to education and scholarship.

Indian Christians, who number nearly 25 million, represent almost every denomination: (Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Maronite, Seventh - day Adventist, and others.

India has two ancient indigenous Jewish communities: the Malayalam-speaking Cochinis and the Marathi-speaking Bene Israel (children of Israel). Today, migration to Israel, England, the United States and Canada, has reduced the Indian Jewish population to 5,000.

Indian Getaway

The tour guide was great, very knowledgeable and accommodating. Some of the elements felt like a school trip but that’s maybe because I have travelled alone before and am not used to doing everything en mass. Javed was fantastic and no request was too small. I would recommend the tour and also Javed as a guide.

Golden Triangle Tour

Golden Triangle

Ragu was one the best guides i ever had in all my tours. He gave great information and was very helpful in sorting out any extra needs you had. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone with limited time. Just plan at least one day in Delhi if you really want to see everything in Delhi as you have limited time there.

India\'s Golden Triangle Tour

India's Golden Triangle

I've had such a super time. For me travel is all about the people and Gaurang, our leader, was absolutely fantastic. He looked after every member of our group so well and had the patience of a saint. We all loved his surprises and sense of humor. I've fallen head over heals in love with India!

5 Days Private Golden Triangle India tour from New Delhi Tour

5 Days Private Golden Triangle India tour from New Delhi

Very much enjoyed the tour! Mr Guddu, my driver was perfect, he knew a lot of shortcuts which always help with the all the traffic jams. His driving was spot on and let me enjoy the scenery and chaos without worrying about the traffic. Hotels booked by Aahil were good and nicely located near malls or other items. The local guide were very knowledgeable and managed to answer all the questions I had, even when not specific over the site were were visiting but about Indias rich culture and history. Overall a great experience and would book a tour with Taj Tour Trips again when visiting India.

India\'s Bestseller - 5 Day Golden Triangle - Delhi, Agra & Jaipur (Guaranteed Departure) Tour

India's Bestseller - 5 Day Golden Triangle - Delhi, Agra & Jaipur (Guaranteed Departure)

Our adventure in India was great thanks to our great driver Sita Ram. He was our point of reference as this company has several customer service people. Our guides were all very knowledgeable and we enjoyed every single site. Trip and everything. Hotels were fine 3 star hotels with the exception of the one in Delhi, (Ajanta) that hotel was more like a one star hotel. The one in Agra and Jaipur were great. We loved Phatepur Sikri , Amazing place ! and Ali the tour guide there was one of the most professional guides I’ve ever known . We really learned everything about the place . Overall experience was great! I would definitely use KK holidays again to tour India.

India's Top Selling Golden Triangle India Tour w/ Meals and Sunrise Taj Mahal

Just returned (2.4.2024) from a great week in India on the Golden Triangle tour. Booked through tourrada using Swastik india Journeys. Couldn't fault anything - hotels were good guides were knowledgeable and our driver Kan Singh was fantastic for the 5 days of our trip. Nothing was too much trouble for him and I would highly recommend him to others needing a patient flexible and skilful driver. And for what we paid outstanding value!

Sensational in every aspect. Firstly our tour leader Chandra was exceptional in his knowledge, approachability and care for all 12 of us. The tour was enlightening culturally, stimulating from the history perspective and enjoyable as the group melded really well. Thanks to all involved in putting g Premiun India together.

Taj Mahal, Tiger and Pink City

Loved this trip. I felt safe and well taken care of. The tour was perfect insight into India. The highlight of the tour was Taj Mahal and Tiger sighting. The tour wouldn't have been the same without the amazing team Mahesh our driver and guides. Everybody was so friendly and caring. All the hotels were great. Thanks Yolo India Tours for great memories

Golden Triangle Tour With Ranthambore Tour

Golden Triangle Tour With Ranthambore

The trip was well organized. The driver was very good. The hotels were ok except for the Lily Pool Heritage in Jaipur. The room was worn out. Room service was provided only after 3 complaints at 8 pm and done in a lousy fashion. Moreover, the guys at the reception were anything but nice and helpful

Colorful India with Taj Mahal & Rajasthan Tour

Colorful India with Taj Mahal & Rajasthan

Good trip that could have been better. Provider failed to provide basic details. I felt that I had to chase down the answers. (before trip I asked for list of hotels; pushed to get taxi from airport arranged) Then on the trip only the general itinerary from the web page was provided. Destinations were good. Hotels were good. Driver was very good. Some guides were better than others. Failure to disclose that each day had a shopping trip was unacceptable. Guides were also invested in the shopping trips that made us feel that they were less there on our behalf. We lost valuable vacation time with each shopping stop. Stops for lunch was mediocre at best and were prearranged. The costs at the lunch stops were much more than other meals on our three week trip. Food was bland and expensive.

Golden Triangle Tour with Varanasi Tour

Golden Triangle Tour with Varanasi

In tourradar there were more options of tour to choose from. I am glad that I choose the golden triangle with Varanasi because it covered most of the north India that I wanted to visit. World Travel Experiences is the tour company that took care of us very well. They were very prompt to answer any questions and concerns. They took care of us since the beginning until the very end. The drivers were very polite and respectful, and they know how to navigate the heavily traffic roads. The tour guides were speaking very good English, knowledgeable and resourceful. Almost all of the tour guides went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and covered the Itinerary. Most of the hotel rooms were above the standard. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet and over night train ride. It is advisable to keep 500, 100, 50, 20 and 10 rupees for tipping. Overall it was a great memorable vacation. Thank you tourradar and World Travel Experience.

Golden Triangle Tour - 3 Days Tour

Golden Triangle Tour - 3 Days

Itinerary and guides were excellent and the driver’s care and attention much appreciated. The main improvement needed is the Jaipur hotel.

What people love about India Tours

Very informative,a bit of a challenge ,had a great time.
Although I LOVED everything about this trip, I have to say that the experience was 10 times enhanced by our amazing CEO, Manvendra. He went above and beyond and truly made this the trip of a lifetime

India pilgrimage tourism information travel guide.

Isn't life actually this way? In the process of learning about themselves and their Creator along with the purpose they are meant to serve with their life, people learn about vice and virtue. However, even after receiving spiritual education since the day of their conception, they fall into the rut of committing mistakes and sins, which later leads to performing penance as they prefer. Taking a sacred journey—a pilgrimage tour is only one of the many, yet the most preferred way of redemption, especially when it is India that a pilgrim is wandering to. The land of versatility - India is second to none, especially when it becomes an object of study, analysis, and attention, all because of the different religions to which it serves as an amalgamating pot. Every religion has its significance and a proposed way of life to live it as ideally as possible. It is possible to get a glimpse of each of them and revel in the rich knowledge, the way followers of different faiths try to connect with their Creator at various pilgrimage sites in India.

Muslims can spread their praying carpets, close their eyes chanting hymns from the Quran with palms spread in worship of Allah Almighty in any of the great mosques found in different corners of the country. Hindus can embark on an arduous journey to holy places like Vaishno Devi, Amarnath, and Chardham, or they can join their hands in devotion and perform various rituals during their visit to temples where God is believed to have manifested Himself in different forms and incarnations like Jyotirlingas, Saktipeeths, etc. Sikhs can choose among the different Gurudwaras set up by their Gurus, beginning with Guru Nanak, just as the Christians can find a Church that serves their spiritual and religious needs. Jain Tirthankars, on the other hand, have left enough worshiping sanctities where peace is sought after by followers of Jainism, like the monasteries, gompas, and stupas that stand proud to guide those who seek to be guided by the preaching and teachings of Buddhism. Pilgrimage holidays proffer the piece of life that seems lost in materialism sometimes, with entertainment as well along with enlightenment as a part of holy festivals/processions one participates in.

The mind can still search for answers to questions that most of them dread to ask for the fear of being lost in the lack of wisdom beyond religious constraints. The answer comes in the form of Sufi sites of worship, Baha'i way of thinking, Spiritual Ashrams, places like Shirdi and Puttaparthi, etc., that might give just the peace you longed for. Nothing happens without cause, and a pilgrimage tour in India only strengthens faith in life, humanity, and God. Take one today to acknowledge the fact yourself!

Hindu Pilgrimage

With more than half of the country's population following Hinduism, India finds itself in abundance with Hindu pilgrimage destinations. The land of Lord Rama, Lord Shiva, and Lord Vishnu, among many other gods of Hinduism, the country has numerous temples and places of worship dedicated to them. Finding mentions in the holy scripts of Mahabharata, Ramayana, and the vedas, pilgrimage destinations in India attract a number of devotees over the year for their religious and spiritual significance. As a result, there are many religious circuits that are formed to aid devotees in their religious tourism. Some of the important religious tours that are taken up by the devotees of Hinduism include the Char Dham Yatra, which includes covering the pilgrimage sites of Badrinath-Kedarnath, Dwarka, Jagannath Puri, and Rameshwaram; Chota Char Dham covering the sites of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath; and other sites like Ayodhya, Mathura, Haridwar, and Varanasi. Apart from these, the riverfronts of Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain, are also some of the major holy places in India and are known for organizing the holy gathering of the Kumbh Mela, attracting sages, ascetics, devotees, and enthusiastic visitors alike. Having no dearth of Hindu pilgrimage sites to visit in the country, these sites also offer a chance to learn more about the history and culture of India.

Buddhist Pilgrimage

Originated over 2,500 years among the Indian subcontinent, Buddhism now stands as one of the major religions of the world. When it comes to it, India has been at the center of cultivation and spread of the religion. It was in India, that the Buddha attained enlightenment, gave his first sermon, lived as a monk spreading his teachings, and later attained mahaparinirvana and passed away, leaving the earthly abode. These places, therefore, are considered very holy and in high reverence by the Buddhists who include this on a Buddhist pilgrimage tour to the country, and also form part of the popular attractions of the Buddhist circuit. Important destinations that are covered as part of Buddhist tourism include Bodh Gaya, Sarnath, Shravasti, Kushinagar, among many others. Apart from these, India is also home to other sites of importance that include monasteries such as Namgyal, Tawang, and Hemis monasteries, and historic, excavated sites of Nalanda, Sankisa, Sanchi Stupa, and the Diamond Triangle of Odisha. These pilgrimage destinations belonging to Buddhism not only are important from a religious point of view, but are also important milestones that help us better understand history. A pioneer of Buddhism that gave way to understanding the world in a different light, the Buddha made it his mission to lessen the pain caused by the sufferings of the world.

Jain Pilgrimage

Based on the principles of nonviolence, Jainism is another religion that finds its roots in India. Established by Rishabdeva, the first Tirthankara, or Jain spiritual leader, the religion was then followed and carried forward with 23 other Tirthankara, with the 24th one being Vardhman Mahavira who is credited with re-establishing the religion and providing the foundation for the modern day practice of Jainism. In India, there are many religious destinations that can be visited as part of a Jain Pilgrimage Tour that covers some significant and popular pilgrimage destinations spanning across the country. Some of these places include, Ranakpur Jain Temple, and Dilwara Temple in Rajasthan, Gomateshwara Temple in Karnataka, and the Shri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir in Delhi, and the Palitana Temple in Gujarat. Practicing values of nonviolence and kindness to all living beings, influence of Jainism can be seen in India’s culture and ways of life as well. These Jain temples not only create an aura of devotion and spirituality but are also some of the country’s most beautiful holy places to visit, especially notable among them is the Gomateshwara Statue in Karnataka, which is known for being 18 meter in height and is made out of a single piece of rock, attracting devotees and tourists alike.

Sikh Pilgrimage

Sikhism, as a religion, was founded in the 15th century by their spiritual guru, Guru Nanak who established the religion to spread a message of love and equality among all humans, regardless of any and all differences, and called for the worship of the one true God. After Guru Nanak, Sikhism had been carried forward by nine other gurus, who dedicated their life in spreading the message of Guru Nanak. Sikh Pilgrimage Tourism includes the various Gurdwaras or Sikh places of worship that are spread across the country. These gurdwaras are known for being welcoming to everyone and serve as a place of comfort and refuge. Some of the popular religious destinations to visit on a Sikh pilgrimage tour include the Shri Harmandir Sahib or the Golden Temple, Anandpur Sahib, Gurudwara Shri Bangla Sahib, and the Takhat Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib. Out of these, the Golden Temple (Shri Harmandir Sahib) is the gurdwara that is the most prominent one and attracts thousands of people every year, from all walks of life. Practice of Sikhism mainly focuses on making sure everyone gets treated equally no matter what, setting the foundation of the religion, which are followed by Sikhs in their daily lives and in their places of worship.

Christian Pilgrimage

Unlike the religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, Christianity is one religion that has been brought to India from across the world. It was during multiple phases that the religion was introduced to the country, which now finds itself to be one of the six religions to be followed in India. Christian Pilgrimage Tour in the country involves visiting the important churches and chapels that are significant markers for the followers of Christianity. Some of the best places to visit for a Christian Pilgrimage Tour include the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa, Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health in Tamil Nadu, Santhome Cathedral Basilica in Tamil Nadu, and the Christ Church in Shimla. Many of these pilgrimage destinations are important places of worship and are known for storing the relics and remains of prominent saints and disciples of Jesus Christ, one whom after the religion is based. Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa, for example, is known for keeping the remains of St. Francis Xavier, a christian missionary and saint, who is considered to be extremely blessed. Since a lot of these churches were made during the period of colonization, glimpses of contemporary architecture from their home countries can be seen and make for a beautiful sight.

Muslim Pilgrimage

Islam is another abrahamic religion that finds its followers in India. Even though India sees a majority following Hinduism, Islam still has a good number of devotees with it being the second most followed religion in the country. Pilgrimage, for muslims are an important affair, given the pilgrimage site of Hajj in Saudi Arabia that is considered a principal pilgrimage to be undertaken by the followers. In India too there are a number of mosques and places of worship that have existed for centuries now, and are often some of the popular places to visit even for regular tourists. Popular muslim religious destinations in India include the Jama Masjid in Delhi, Haji Ali Dargah in Maharashtra, Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan, and the Nizamuddin Dargah Sharif in Delhi. Being a foreign religion that has stayed in the country for over centuries, glimpses of it can be seen in India's food, language, clothing, and different aspects of its culture. These pilgrimage sites form an essential part of India's history, due to the majority being made by rulers who once ruled its land, giving us an account into the past as well.

Jewish Pilgrimage

Another one of the abrahamic religions that have found its way to India is Judaism. Judaism is a religion that believes in the one true God and is followed by the Jewish people, a population that has accumulated in India over many centuries. The Jewish places of worship are referred to as synagogues and can be found all over the country. Today, the majority of Jews can be found in Cochin, Mumbai, and West Bengal who are categorized into different types such as Cochin Jews, Bene Israel Jews, and the Baghdadi Jews, respectively. As such you can find many synagogues dedicated to prayer and worship at these places. The popular Jewish pilgrimage destinations in India for a pilgrimage tour include the Paradesi Synagogue at Kerala, Maghen David Synagogue, and the Beth El Synagogue in West Bengal, and the Ohel David Synagogue in Maharashtra. These synagogues are some of the best religious places to visit in India and offer a chance to understand the culture, lifestyle, and history of the jews of India. Especially popular among them is the Ohel David Synagogue in Maharashtra's Pune, which is considered to be the largest of the synagogues in India., and is worth a visit.

Indian hockey team loses 4-2 to Australia, trails series 2-0

Jugraj and captain Harmanpreet Singh scored the goals for the Indian men’s hockey team. The third India vs Australia Test match will be played on Wednesday.

India vs Australia hockey tour match 2

The Indian men’s hockey team lost 4-2 to Australia in its second game of the five-match series in Perth on Sunday. Having lost the opener 5-1 on Saturday, India now trail the series 2-0.

Jugraj Singh (9’) and Harmanpreet Singh (30’) scored the goals for India while Jeremy Hayward (6', 34’), Jacob Anderson (42’) and Nathan Ephraums (45') accounted for the home team’s goals.

The match got off to a cagey start with both teams feeling their way into the game. However, it was the home team Australia, placed one place above India in the hockey rankings at world No. 4, who drew first blood.

Five minutes in, the Kookaburras won the first penalty corner of the match and Jeremy Hayward stepped up to bury a low drag flick past Indian goalkeeper Bahadur Pathak to hand his team the lead.

Following the opener, the Australian team went on an all-out offensive and it took some last-ditch defending and solid goalkeeping from Pathak to keep the scoreline 1-0.

After weathering the storm, though, India drew level from a penalty corner courtesy of a Jugraj Singh belter.

The second quarter saw both teams exhibit some fine attacking hockey with each defence enduring phases of opposition onslaught. Just before the half-time hooter, however, the home team blinked as Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh converted a penalty corner to score his 180th international goal and handed the Indian men’s hockey team a 2-1 lead heading into the break.

The visitors’ lead was brief as Hayward converted his second penalty corner four minutes into the restart. The quarter belonged to the Aussies, who added two more goals to the scoreline through Jacob Anderson and Nathan Ephraums’s field goals.

With Australia leading 4-2, India threw caution to the wind in order to salvage the match in the final quarter but the disciplined Australian team managed the match well and allowed India only one penalty corner in the entire fourth quarter. India, however, couldn’t make it count and slumped to their second defeat of the tour.

The Indian men’s hockey team will face Australia for the third match at the same venue on Wednesday. The five-match series, part of India’s Paris 2024 Olympics preparations, concludes on April 13.

American woman killed in elephant attack in Zambia

Johannesburg — An elephant attack that left an American woman dead in Zambia was captured in harrowing cellphone video over the weekend. The clip, shot by tourists in Zambia's Kafue National Park, begins inside an open safari vehicle during a game drive.

In the distance, a large bull elephant can be seen coming toward the vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle cannot be seen in the video clip, but someone is heard, saying: "Oh my goodness," before a man says, "it's coming fast."

The vehicle stops and then another voice, presumably the game ranger, tries to ward off the elephant verbally as the large pachyderm hooks its tusks onto the vehicle and rolls it several times.

Family members  confirmed that Gail Mattson, a 79-year-old Minnesotan, was killed in the attack. In the post on Facebook, Rona Wells said her mother had died in "a tragic accident while on her dream adventure."

Mattson, a retired loan officer, was 11 days into a month-long vacation overseas, her family told WCCO, describing her as "adventurous" and "loved by everybody."

Wilderness Safaris, which operates the tour in the Zambian park, said in a statement that it was cooperating with national authorities to investigate the incident and it offered condolences to Mattson's family.

Wilderness said the other tourists traveling with Mattson were also Americans, four of whom sustained minor injuries in the attack.

"Our guides are extremely well trained, but sadly the terrain and vegetation was such that the route became blocked," the company said, explaining that the ranger "could not move the vehicle out of harm's way quickly enough."

Mattson was evacuated to a hospital in South Africa after the incident but succumbed to her injuries.

Kafue National Park is Zambia's largest national park at 8,650 square miles. It's a popular tourist destination as it's home to five of sub-Saharan Africa's iconic big animal species, lions, elephants, leopards, rhinoceros and buffalo.

🐓 SOUTH CAROLINA — UNBEATEN NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

With undefeated South Carolina jolted onto an unfamiliar backfoot, coach Dawn Staley looked toward her bench to remedy an early 11-point deficit to Iowa — more specifically, she looked toward Tessa Johnson.

The freshman guard outshone her six-point scoring average all tournament long and was a revelation in relief for the Gamecocks. With a team-high 19 points and three triples, Johnson led South Carolina to a slim halftime lead and a dominant third quarter, helping the Gamecocks claim their second national title in three years, 87-75, and cap off a perfect season.

The role players were rolling from the opening tip, as Kate Martin and Sydney Affolter gave Iowa a quick 7-0 lead, but Caitlin Clark scored 13 in a row from all over the court. The newly crowned AP Player of the Year drained a pair of 3s, was fouled on two more attempts and converted at the rim to give her Hawkeyes a 20-9 lead by the first media timeout. Clark finished with 30 points (10 of 28 shooting), eight rebounds and five assists in her last college game.

Iowa's centers Hannah Stuelke and Addison O'Grady admirably limited star Gamecock post Cardoso to just 2 of 6 shooting in the first quarter, but the Brazilian behemoth partnered with Johnson and inevitably found her opening. Johnson — who led the Gamecocks' 36-0 bench scoring advantage — took up the mantle for South Carolina and its top-ranked defense. The freshman guard poked away a pair of steals, turning each into transition baskets, before Cardoso finished through contact to tie the game at 27.

That top-ranked defense also took exception to Clark's early mastery, and a savvy defensive play from Raven Johnson dispossessed Clark and gave the Gamecocks an easy two points before halftime.

South Carolina bottled up this late-half momentum for a roaring start out of the locker room. Chloe Kitts ensured her spot on the floor with two straight baskets out of the intermission, and Te-Hina Paopao nailed a pull-up jumper to give her Gamecocks a 55-46 lead and force Iowa coach Lisa Bluder to burn a quick timeout.

Cardoso also hauled a career-high 17 rebounds, leading an overwhelming South Carolina rebounding effort that started to wear on the Hawkeyes. The Gamecocks enjoyed a 24-11 rebounding advantage in the second half, including six offensive boards, and a plus-6 advantage in second chance points helped South Carolina maintain its lead.

Paopao nailed a 3 to begin the fourth quarter, one of her three long-range bombs Sunday, and a familiarly balanced South Carolina scoring attack — seven Gamecocks made at least three field goals — proved too much for a late Hawkeyes rally.

🗣️ South Carolina closing in on national title, perfect season

The Gamecocks can taste it! After a valiant Iowa fightback cut the Hawkeye deficit to just four, a measured response from South Carolina saw the Gamecocks back up 10 after a Raven Johnson free throw with just 90 seconds to go.

Iowa will look for a miracle comeback, while South Carolina looks for the finishing touches on a 38-0 season.

🚨 Five minutes remaining: Iowa eyeing comeback

➡️ into the 4th: south carolina leads by nine, 🚫 danger zone: south carolina extends lead into double figures.

While the Hawkeyes have hung around admirably throughout the third quarter, an emphatic South Carolina run has the Gamecocks threatening to pull away inside the final 11 minutes.

Caitlin Clark curbed a tough shooting quarter with a gusty take to the rim, pulling her Hawkeyes within just two, but South Carolina then launched a 3-point shooting barrage. Ashlyn Watkins started the run with a conversion at the rim, but Tessa Johnson and Bree Hall connected from long range to cap off the 8-0 run.

Johnson continued a stellar afternoon — her 15 points lead the Gamecocks — with a 3-pointer from the left corner, and South Carolina grew its lead to 68-57 with just over a minute left in the third quarter.

💥 Third-quarter explosion: South Carolina roars out of halftime

After putting a pesky NC State squad away Friday with a dominant 29-6 third quarter, South Carolina looks on course for a similar surge out of the locker room. Chloe Kitts, who was limited to just nine minutes, ensured her spot on the floor with two straight baskets out of the intermission, and Te-Hina Paopao nailed a pull-up jumper to give her Gamecocks a 55-46 lead and force Iowa coach Lisa Bluder to burn a quick timeout.

🚧 Defense to offense: Raven Johnson ends half with big steal and score

In a high-scoring affair that saw each team threatening to crack 50 points, it was ultimately a key defensive play that gave South Carolina some rare separation and a jolt of momentum heading into the locker room.

Caitlin Clark sauntered up the floor with the ball and a chance to give her Hawkeyes a slim lead entering halftime, but the superstar was ultimately dispossessed by Raven Johnson, who flew down the floor uncontested and converted a layup. Johnson's bucket gave South Carolina a 49-46 lead, erasing a Hawkeye advantage as large as 11.

Here's a look at the complete halftime breakdown for both sides — and stay tuned for a thrilling second half:

😵‍💫 Back and forth: Iowa, South Carolina trade punches into second quarter

After a 7-0 burst from South Carolina leveled the game at 27, the teams have traded haymakers in a thrilling start to the second quarter.

Tessa Johnson and Kamilla Cardoso have shouldered the second quarter load for the Gamecocks, scoring all but two of South Carolina's points in the period, and a pair of baskets at the rim for the Brazilian star sandwiched a Tessa triple and gave South Carolina a 36-34 lead.

Iowa punched right back, however, as Hannah Stuelke handled a beautiful feed from Caitlin Clark and finished through contact, giving her Hawkeyes a narrow lead entering the second quarter media timeout.

😤 Tessa takeover: Johnson helps pull the Gamecocks level

👏 to their feet: cleveland crowd applauds clark's magnificent first quarter.

After corralling a loose ball to close out the first 10 minutes, Caitlin Clark received a rousing ovation from a partisan Hawkeye crowd after a nearly flawless first quarter. Clark finished the period with 18 points, including a deep, contested 3-pointer to send Iowa into the first quarter break with a 27-20 lead.

Kate Martin also contributed an impressive seven-point performance, and Iowa centers Hannah Stuelke and Addison O'Grady have done excellent work containing star Gamecock post Kamilla Cardoso to just 2 of 6 from the field.

🔥 She's on fire: Clark scores 13 by first media timeout

Caitlin Clark has clearly shaken off her Rust Belt rust since arriving in Cleveland, as after a slow start in Friday's national semifinal the Hawkeye megastar has been nearly flawless against South Carolina.

The role players were rolling from the opening tip, as Kate Martin and Sydney Affolter gave Iowa a quick 7-0 lead, but Clark has scored Iowa's last 13 from all over the court. The newly crowned AP Player of the Year drained a pair of 3s, was fouled on two more attempts and converted at the rim to give her Hawkeyes a 20-9 lead with 4:45 left in the first quarter.

🤩 All eyes on her: Crowd greets Caitlin Clark ahead of national championship

What projects to be a partisan Iowa crowd made their presence felt more than two hours before tip-off Sunday, as thousands lined up around Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse to catch a glimpse of star Hawkeye Caitlin Clark entering the arena.
