NOW SERVING GROG (BEER AND CIDER) LOCALLY BREWED IN HAMILTON, ONTARIO

A Pirate’s Life combines the spirit of adventure with live interactive theatre and a cruise in Toronto & Ottawa

What it’s all about

Venture Downtown Toronto this summer and join our scurvy crew.

Come dressed in your favourite pirate costumes or rummage through our collection of vests, sashes and bandanas as you become one of us.

Our crew have their face paint and brushes at the ready to curl a handsome moustache, 5 o’clock shadow or some fearsome pirate tats  on the cheeks & arms of your loved ones.

On shore and before departure make ready for the Captain, gather round and present your best pirate ‘arrrghh!’  Climb on the Island Rogue – a 45 foot pirate ship – to head out to sea in pursuit of adventure & sunken treasure.

Aboard the vessel and cruising around the Toronto Harbour you partake in Pirate School, where our crew teaches you the ways of the sea faring life. Discover the mystery of Treasure Island, encounter friend & foe, fire the water cannons and haul up the loot if yer one of the lucky ones – or else there may be a marooning for the lot of ye!

The activity is 1.5 hours, 30 minutes are on shore & 1 hour on the pirate ship sailing.

We play safe

Our crew is rigorously trained in marine safety procedures and safe conduct aboard the vessel as per Transport Canada regulations. We are first aid certified. Life saving equipment aboard the vessel include both adult and child life jackets, life rings, fire extinguishers an emergency life raft. Marine units for fire and police close by.

At the beginning of each show the crew reviews the safety equipment with passengers demonstrating proper use of life jackets – please do not hesitate to speak to our staff, captain and crew.

Come out and live A Pirate’s Life!

What is immersive theatre?

We’re glad you asked! Immersive theatre is an experience where you too get to be a part of the play. The Audience is invited to participate and help create the story by interacting with the set, the space and the cast. Our production relies on the participation of you and your kids. Yes, you read that right, we rely on YOU – the adult! The parent so caught up in everyday busy life that we sometimes forget how to play and have fun. This production is as much for you as the kids, let out your playful spirit and join us on stage for some creative fun! Naturally the show is first and foremost for the children, we have plenty of opportunities for them to stand up, play and sing along with us.

  • Michael Kras
  • 29 May 2023

Some locals have surely spotted a pirate ship freshly docked at Hamilton’s Bayfront Park recently.

pirate cruise hamilton

That’s because Pirate Life Theatre – a theatre company that does immersive, interactive pirate theatre experiences – has just launched their first series of shows in Hamilton.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Pirate Life Theatre (@piratelifetheatre)

The family-friendly theatre experience sees audience members joining a pirate crew aboard an actual cruising pirate ship and playing a part in hunting for treasure, firing the ship’s water cannons, witnessing a sword fight, and more.

“Our production is part theatre, part cruise, and all adventure!” reads a message on the Pirate Life Theatre website.

The company originally launched in Toronto and has since expanded its production to Hamilton and Ottawa.

Tickets are still available for many performances all throughout the summer, and locals can book theirs from now to the end of October on the Pirate Life Theatre website !

Nude cruise to set sail from Florida next year: Here are the starting costs, itinerary

pirate cruise hamilton

The "Big Nude Boat" cruise, which allows passengers to bare all − yes, even at the buffet − is set to sail from Florida next year.

The "11-day adventure" to the Caribbean is set for the first two weeks of February on the Norwegian Pearl, according to the Bare Necessities Tour & Travel website.

"Bare Necessities’ newest nude cruise is a private island double-dip with a brand new travel partner!" the company wrote on its website.

The trip which embarks from Miami, includes "an exclusive visit to an idyllic private island" in The Bahamas as well a another exclusive stop on the way back to the Port of Miami.

"Two opportunities to enjoy a new slice of Bare-adise, coupled with a beautiful selection of Eastern Caribbean island stops, will make this a can’t miss Big Nude Boat experience," the travel company posted.

Why cruises are popular with swingers: 'What happens on the ship ... stays on the ship'

A cruise to nowhere: Royal Caribbean sailing canceled after guests boarded

Big Nude Boat cruise sailing dates and destinations:

The ship departs from the Port of Miami on Feb. 3 and returns to the same port on Feb. 14.

The itinerary includes stops at the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, Dominica, Martinique and St. Lucia.

How much does the Big Nude Boat cruise cost?

Rates for an inside cabin start at $2,000 per person.

They stretch as high as $33,155 for the top room on the ship: a Haven three-bedroom garden villa.

Laws of the land (and sea)

Guests are encouraged to park their bare behinds on towels provided on board in areas including the pool deck and the buffet area, according to the website.

"Passengers can easily follow our rule on nudist etiquette by always placing a towel down before sitting," it reads. "Remember to pack a swimsuit; not all excursions are clothing optional."

Pirates of Emerson in Pleasanton

PLEASANTON, CALIF.- Pirates of Emerson Haunted House Attraction : What started as a small group of friends with some props in a backyard, has grown into nearly two decades of production of one of the most imaginative, award-winning Halloween attractions in the U.S. Set in the 15th century when pirates reigned supreme, the attraction set among five acres of space includes special effects, robotics, animation and interaction (mixed with obligatory screams). How many days of school are required in Florida?

According to the  National Center for Education Statistics,  the minimum amount of instruction time for Florida students is 180 days.

That amount of time is typical across the country, although there are a few states requiring slightly fewer or more days.

Florida requires children in kindergarten through grade 3 to have instructional time of 720 hours. That time increases to 900 hours for students in grades 4 through 12, although school districts have the option to meet either minimum hours per school year or days per school year.

More than half the schools across the country require a  minimum number of hours  per school day. Florida does not.

When are later start times coming to Florida schools?

The later start times will be required by the 2026-2027 school year, according to legislation signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis back in May 2023.

DeSantis' law would  require a later start time for middle and high schools  throughout Florida. The law gave school districts three years to develop plans to implement the changes to the earlier times.

The law prevents middle schools from beginning the “instructional day” earlier than 8 a.m., while high schools will be barred from starting the school day before 8:30 a.m.

When is Florida's 'Back-to-School' sales tax holiday?

A  14-day back-to-school sales tax holiday  is proposed from Saturday, July 29 to Wednesday, Aug. 11 for:

Clothing, footwear, and backpacks costing $100 or less

School supplies costing $50 or less

Learning aids costing $30 or less

Personal computers or computer-related accessories, including non-recreational software, costing $1,500 or less

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Kevin Pillar homered twice and drove in six runs, helping Patrick Sandoval and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-0 on Tuesday night.

Logan O’Hoppe had four hits and two RBIs for Los Angeles, which had dropped three in a row and five of six overall. Willie Calhoun walked twice and scored three times.

Sandoval (2-5) struck out seven in seven innings in his first win since April 3 against Miami. The left-hander allowed three hits and walked one.

“Tonight belonged to Sandoval, he was outstanding,” Angels manager Ron Washington said. “That’s the eighth straight game that our starters have given us six (innings) and that’s what we’re trying to do with these guys.”

The seven innings were a season high for Sandoval.

“I’ve just got to know myself better and pitch like I did tonight and be the better version of myself,” Sandoval said. “I’m capable of doing this.”

The Angels went ahead to stay when Pillar connected for a three-run drive against Quinn Priester in the fourth. Mickey Moniak singled and Calhoun walked before Pillar reached the left-field bleachers for his second homer of the season.

“We put it all together,” Washington said. “It started with the guy on the mound, and it started with the big hit that Pillar gave us, something we’ve been looking for. He gave it to us and then it became contagious from there.”

Pillar led off the seventh with a drive to left off Roansy Contreras. It was Pillar’s seventh career multihomer game and his first since 2021 with the New York Mets. He doubled in a run in the eighth off Josh Fleming.

The veteran outfielder signed with Los Angeles on April 30 after Angels star Mike Trout was placed on the 10-day injured list with a knee injury. The 35-year-old Pillar had played in just three games with the Angels before Tuesday and was 1 for 6.

The Angels are Pillar’s ninth team since 2019.

“It’s moments like that that you keep grinding in the cage, you keep working,” Pillar said. “It’s been a lot of work going into that. My father taught me at a young age that you work and just keep your head down and keep working. And it is validation that I can still contribute.”

Nolan Schanuel and Moniak each had two hits for Los Angeles, which scored a total of three runs in its previous three games.

Priester (0-3) was charged with five runs — three earned — and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. The Pirates have yet to score during Priester’s four starts and 21 innings this year.

“I think the slider lost a little bit of its shape. And then he threw a couple of sinkers that really didn’t sink that he left in the middle plate and ended up getting hit really hard,” Pirates manager Derek Shelton said.

Pittsburgh had won three in a row.

The start of the game was delayed 20 minutes because of the threat of rain.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Angels: INF Luis Rengifo (illness) missed his fourth straight game. ... LF Taylor Ward sat out his first game of the season because of a scheduled day off.

Pirates: SS Oneil Cruz got the night off with Pittsburgh facing a left-handed starting pitcher.

Angels right-hander Jose Soriano (1-4, 3.77 ERA) faces lefty Martín Pérez (1-2, 3.15 ERA) on Wednesday in the finale of the three-game series. Soriano spent the entire 2021 season on the injured list with the Pirates while recovering from elbow surgery after being selected from the Angels in the Rule 5 draft.

The California Pioneers Screening of the Documentary of the 1929 Millionaires Cruise

pirate cruise hamilton

When I spoke with Rick, he said the documentary would not have been possible 15 to 20 years ago before websites such as Ancestry.com existed. Many essential documents, such as the complete passenger list with the names and birthdays of every passenger of the SS Malolo, film footage of what the passengers had seen overseas, and journal entries during the trip, would not have been obtained by Rick, if he was unable to email the descendants of the known passengers of the cruise through the Ancestry website. The archives within historical interest sites, such as Ancestry, has allowed historians to contact individuals with original records in ways that were not possible before.

The documentary covered the passengers leaving the port of San Francisco to Tokyo, Japan, them touring the Great Wall Of China, then seeing the beautiful isolated lands of New Zealand. What made the trip more extraordinary was how one of the passengers ended up being imprisoned in China. However, when he was freed by American military forces, instead of returning to America he stayed in China collecting artifacts from the country. Many of those artifacts were given to the Hoover Insitute, in Stanford University, which is currently stored within the archives of the Hoover Tower.

There were several other stories of passengers within the documentary, such as one of a teenager who had leukemia who’s parents knew that he had it but didn’t disclose it to him so that they could take him around the world before died. That teenager did survive to see the entire cruise, but he died shortly after the SS Malolo’s return to San Francisco.

Donald McPhail, author of the novel, “The Millionaires Cruise” was present at the event. He first wrote a family history based on the ship’s 1931 sailing, because he had family photos and articles about his father’s participation on that cruise, working as an American Express trip director for the  SS Malolo . In fact, this 1931 cruise is where his father and mother actually met, as she sailed as the ship’s nurse.

On the advice of another author, McPhail decided to fictionalize the story, placing characters who were very much like his parents, on the ill-fated 1929 sailing, where the passengers were all millionaires whose fortunes were threatened or destroyed by the stock market crash while they were at sea.

Unknown to the author, his father was also a trip director for the 1929 cruise. More surprisingly, the author’s grandmother had traveled all the way from her home in Johannesburg, to join the cruise as a special guest of her son. So in this case, thanks to historian Rick Helin, the truth of his family’s story became very much like the fiction he formulated.

Even though Donald’s book on the 1931 cruise was fictional, after Rick read the novel it compelled him to build on the research Donald had conducted, to unveil more of the stories behind the passengers of the Millionaires Cruise of 1929. But rather than writing a book, Rick choose to make a documentary. Indeed, that was a compelling story behind how a novelist and a documentarian crossed paths.

After the screening was complete he announced to the audience that the California Pioneers Of Santa Clara has copies of the oldest known color film taken in both China and in Japan. He is working to have the entirety of those films converted to digital, but the film is so old that only two facilities in the world currently have the capability to convert it.

Rick mentioned his relationship with a university in Hawaii which sends him footage of California to convert to digital. It’s a reciprocal relationship, since he sends them footage of Hawaii that he finds. Rick mentioned the importance of relationships as an archivist and the duty one has to preserve history, if one is able to.
