Bret Michaels Confirms POISON Will Announce Massive Tour Featuring ‘POISON’s Greatest Hits’

  • February 18, 2024
  • 2 minute read

poison on tour 2023

During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk” on February 15, Bret Michaels, still in the midst of promoting his “Parti-Gras” solo tour, entertained the idea of the possibility of POISON hitting the road again, this time with a lineup featuring two, three, or even four other major acts, akin to their participation in the 2022 “The Stadium Tour”. Michaels expressed his enthusiasm for such a prospect, stating:

“One million percent. I was grateful to be out there again. With MÖTLEY [CRÜE] and [DEF] LEPPARD and to be out there with Joan [Jett], I one thousand percent see that [kind of thing happening again].”

The veteran musician, now 60, emphasized the significance of his POISON bandmates — C.C. [DeVille] on guitar, Bobby [Dall] on bass, and Rikki [Rockett] on drums — in his musical journey. However, he also highlighted the unique energy and camaraderie of his solo band, including members like Pete Evick, Dean “The Machine” Cramer, and others, expressing how they all share the same passion for performance.

Looking ahead to the potential revival of POISON on tour, Michaels projected into the future, foreseeing the band hitting the road again in 2025 or 2026, with a lineup featuring all the classic POISON hits. He envisions integrating the POISON reunion into the “Parti-Gras” experience, bringing together numerous iconic bands for an unforgettable celebration of rock music:

“I think in 2025, 2026, one million percent. We’re gonna bring all the POISON greatest-hits reunion and make it part of what ‘Parti-Gras’ is. We’ll make it the POISON reunion ‘Parti-Gras’ and bring a lot of great bands and just, without a doubt, unleash all those POISON greatest hits.”

Entertainment | bret michaels promises a good time when new tour launches this week at pine knob.

Bret Michaels knows how to have nothin’ but a good time, with his band Poison and on his own.

And he especially knows how to do that at the Pine Knob Music Theatre.

Michaels (nee Sychak), 60, has performed at the venue 17 times with Poison and once on his own — memorably arriving a couple days early during June of 2010 to sing “Margaritaville” with Jimmy Buffett. He also takes pride in noting that Poison once set a record for the most beer sold during one of its two-night stands at the venue (such claims are hard to substantiate, but in this case it seems entirely plausible).

“It was probably one of the best continuous parties,” Michaels, who kicks off his multi-act 2023 Parti Gras Tour on Thursday, July 13, at Pine Knob, recalls of the beer incident. “I ended up just sleeping in the dressing room — woke up the next day, took my dirt bike out in the big-ass parking lot up top, had the best time ever and went back and played another show.

“Let me say this,” Michaels adds, “Pine Knob is one of my true stomping grounds. I think everyone knows I love Detroit. I have ties like that in every city, but (Detroit) is a step beyond, and then Pine Knob is a step beyond that. The fans there party. They rock. It’s just such a good time, honest to God…”

Pine Knob, then, was the logical spot for Michaels to launch his Parti-Gras Tour concept.

Michaels' love for Detroit made Michigan an obvious location choice to kick off his latest tour. (Photo courtesy of Bret Michaels)

Modeled after summer concert brands that friends such as Buffett and Sammy Hagar have established, Parti-Gras will feature Michaels with opening acts Night Ranger and Jefferson Starship, and joined during his own set by Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray and onetime Journey singer Steve Augeri. “No one’s quite done it like this,” Michaels says, “where I’m singing three or four Poison songs, hits, and all of a sudden Steve Augeri grabs the mic and he starts singing Journey hits and I stand up there and play guitar or piano, congas or whatever. Then Mark does some of his stuff and then at the end we’ll get everybody up there to sing ‘Nothin’ But a Good Time’ together.

“I told everybody individually, before any of the agents or managers got involved, I said, ‘All killer, no filler.’ It’s all hits. It’s gonna be an ultimate good time.”

It certainly sounded like that to the members of Night Ranger, which toured with Poison during the ’80s and ’90s and is happy to be part of the Michaels’ party once again.

“I have so many stories; we won’t get into that now, but let’s just say the ’80s was the decade of decadence and Poison had that down,” Night Ranger guitarist Brad Gillis says. “We all pretty much grew out of that, but we’re looking forward to this tour ’cause it’s we’re trying to make the shows a party…and the songs are so timeless.”

The party, or parti, will rage offstage as well, by Michaels’ design. A hospitality team will distribute beads and bandanas to play on the Mardi Gras theme, while a Tiki-style golf cart will drive around the parking lot with a Nerf basketball hoop giving fans a chance to win backstage passes and drink tickets. He’ll also be holding a “Dress Like Bret” karaoke contest and will bring winners on stage to sing “Nothin’ But a Good Time.”

And Michaels is promising special guests, usually local personalities, in each town.

“I like to have a great time. I like to party. But what I love most is treating people really great AT the party,” explains Michaels, who’s also a Type 1 diabetic and is active in fundraising for the American Diabetes Association, among other charities. “I want people to have a great time, and we’re gonna take everything we’ve done up a notch. We’re going to keep going for as long as we can, as fun as we can for the amount of time we’re given.

“After just the craziness of these last couple years I am so grateful to be able to go out to a sporting event, a concert, hang out with friends. It’s just a good day.”

Michaels has more than Parti Gras keeping him busy these days. The singer — who co-founded Poison 40 years ago in Mechanicsburg, Pa., with four multi-platinum albums and six Top 10 singles to the band’s credit — made a run as Bandana Banana on “The Masked Singer” during the spring of 2020 and took Poison on the road as part of The Stadium Tour last summer. In January he released a new solo song, the sentimental “Back in the Day,” the first of several new songs he plans to release during the coming months. “You, The Beach and Me,” “Parti Gras” and “Until Then” are on the runway, with no plans for a full album as of yet.

Michaels also intends to regroup Poison during 2025 for more touring and possibly some new songs.

“Y’know, back when we started I never knew what would happen, but I never thought it couldn’t happen — I just found a way to get it done and enjoyed that,” Michaels explains. “My pot of gold is the journey. I’ve met incredible people. I got to play incredible places, travel the world and play music. I’ve been through a lot of adversity and finding ways to get by that.

“And I’ve embraced the changes. I didn’t fight the digital world. I didn’t say no when they asked me to play country festivals. I’m sincere. I’m passionate. I’m a fan of music, and I appreciate the fans and I come out with the same energy I would bring when I was playing Harpo’s or Blondie’s — just on a bigger stage and with some better equipment now.”

Bret Michaels Parti Gras 2023 — featuring Night Ranger, Starship, Mark McGrath and Steve Augeri — takes place at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 13 at the Pine Knob Music Theatre, 33 Bob Seger Drive, Independence Township. 313-471-7000 or 313Presents.com.

Poison is an American glam metal band formed by Bret Michaels, Matt Smith, Bobby Dall, and Rikki Rockett, from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, U.S.

Originally performing under the moniker Paris in their hometown of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, the band moved to Los Angeles, California in 1984 and changed their name to Poison. Lead singer Bret Michaels, bassist Bobby Dall, and drummer Rikki Rockett, held auditions for a lead guitarist and soon after invited C.C. Deville to fill the role. Poison then developed a knack for creatively and thoroughly promoting their gigs and soon garnered a sizeable following, which led the band to sign with Enigma Records in 1986.

The same year Poison released their breakthrough album “Look What the Cat Dragged In” which introduced the band’s brand of glamorous metal androgyny. Aided by the single “Talk Dirty to Me” and “I Won’t Forget You”, the album went on to sell over two million copies. With the release of their sophomore album “Open Up & Say…Ahhh!” Poison were propelled to the level of super-stardom topped only by the likes of Bon Jovi and Def Leppard. The album spawned the hits “Fallen Angel”, “Nothin’ But a Good Time” and the band’s first No. One Hit, “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”.

The release of their subsequent album “Flesh and Blood” and resulting tour however marked a decline for the band. After the live album “Swallow This Live” in 1991, Poison parted ways with C.C. Deville who was replaced by the 21 year old Richie Kotzen. The new guitarist only stayed for one album, however, 1993’s “Native Tongue” after it was revealed he had begun an illicit relationship with drummer Rockett’s fiancé. A compilation album entitled “Greatest Hits: 1986-1996” was issued in 1996, shortly after which Deville returned to the group and Poison embarked on a successful arena reunion tour of 1999.

“Crack a Smile” was released in 2000, followed by “Power to the People” a mix of new and live songs from the reunion tour. Following the release of the disappointing “Hollyweird” in 2002, Deville appeared in VH1’s “The Surreal Life” and Michaels hosted his own dating show “Rock of Love with Bret Michaels”. It wasn’t until 2006 that Poison reconvened to celebrate their 20th anniversary, with a nationwide tour and a new greatest hits box-set collection. The album “The Best of Posion: 20 Years of Rock”, aided by Michaels’ new reality TV status, rose to the Top 20 of the Billboard 200, as did its successor “Poison’d!” in 2007.

Live reviews

Pop Evil, Cheap Trick & Poison put on an absolutely amazing show but I am completely disenchanted with the promoters, venue and ticket sellers.

I purchased 200 level seats in row L @ $135/ticket for my wife and I via an American Express Presale, months in advance of the show.

While waiting for the gates to open at Ontario Place/Budweiser Stage, the usual assortment of scalpers were hanging around the front gates when we heard one of them offering half-price tickets to the show. I pulled out my phone and checked Live Nation and Ticketmaster's web sites to find that they were offering, amongst others, tickets two rows in front of our seats for $83.75. These were not resale tickets, and there were several of them.

To make matters worse, while standing in line at one of the food trucks, I overheard several people saying how fortunate they were that their $20 lawn tickets had been upgraded for FREE and yup....they were sitting two rows in front of us when the show started.

Apparently the show had not sold well, so the venue decided to close the lawn area and give everyone with $20 lawn tickets a free upgrade. Lucky for them, but what about those of us who paid full price for the tickets months in advance? Should we not have been offered a partial refund, or at the very least a gift certificate?

I understand that Labatt's and Live Nation (who also happens to own Ticketmaster) own the venue which was recently renamed from Molson Amphitheatre to Budweiser Stage and this was certainly not our first trip to this venue, but it was our first trip to the venue under it's new name.

As I said when I started this, we LOVED the show he bands put on, but if the promoters/venue/ticket sellers are going to continue this practice of shafting those of us who purchase tickets early, we will definitely thing twice before buying tickets to other shows.

We've typically attend 3-5 shows each summer and have definitely noticed a drop in attendance at most shows over the last couple of years. Despite the fact that music lovers will pay dearly to see their favourite bands, there comes a point where there are only so many dollars to go around. I realize that many bands demand higher compensation when touring, but perhaps the drop in attendance is directly related to the ticket prices for shows of late.

There have been several shows that we would love to have seen, but not even folks like us who have been life-long fans of certain bands can't afford $200-$300 for a ticket to see a band who's last hit record was 20-30 years ago.

If the venue's aren't selling out, maybe the ticket prices are too high......

Cheap Trick is my wife's all time favourite band and we've seen them every year for the past 20 years when they've passed through town, but for the price we paid this year, and then to find out that had we waited until the last minute, or purchased the cheap lawn seats and gotten a free upgrade to better seats, we definitely feel cheated this year and will almost certainly take our chances by waiting until the day of, or buying cheap lawn seats if they come through town again next year. Who knows, we may actually end up with better seats than someone else who shows their support for a band by buying tickets early...

If there’s such a thing as glam metal standards, does it really get any more classic than ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’? Poison have certainly earned themselves a place amongst the genuine titans of the genre, and like a handful of their contemporaries (I’m looking at you, Motley Crue), they’ve defied years of debauchery and excess and remain a going concern today. More recently, though, there’s every chance that the wider public are more familiar with frontman Bret Michaels for the slew of appearances that he’s made on reality TV shows - he won the third series of Celebrity Apprentice - or his recent health issues that put his life on the line and the band’s future in serious doubt. Happily, though, Michaels recovered, and Poison hit the road in the summer of 2011 for a tour with the Crue, as well as New York Dolls. The sets were typically silly affairs - big hair, big guitar solos and big, big volume and had Michaels rolling back the years, showcasing a voice that’s stood up remarkably well to the ravages of a rock n’ roll lifestyle. The band have yet to make it back to the UK since Michaels’ recovery, but the fact that Motley Crue still play arenas over here should demonstrate that there’s plenty of demand for this kind of show; it can only be a matter of time.

American rock outfit Poison really do set the bar high in the field of glam metal. Innovators of their time, the band who have been working for over thirty years amassed a huge following during their heyday and many of those fans still attend their shows to this day.

Having achieved a great deal of commercial success in the 80's and 90's, the band now tends to play a setlist featuring a selection of their hits as well as their own personal favourite material to showcase their abilities. The gig sways between these two mentalities, the crowd are loudly singing along to 'Unskinny Bop' before clapping along intently to coax on the musicians as they perform complex guitar and drum solos.

The biggest cheer of the evening is reserved for the encore of 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn' and 'Nothing But A Good Time' which both include extended instrumentals and those recognisable anthemic choruses. Despite the band no longer being a frequenter of the charts, their iconic glam rock status remains unchallenged.

Awesome show!! I have seen a lot of concerts from 1980 forward, in all this time I have never seen a frontman so full of energy and get the crowd into the show the way Bret Michaels did! He is by far the best frontman I have seen. The band sounded great and the lighting show was fantastic. Tesla opened the show and the crowd remained sitting most of the show but when Bret came on stage everyone was standing and remained so all night. All in all it was a magnificent high energy show and I would go again!

The Poison,Cheap Trick & Pop Evil NJ show was amazing. They were all energetic and had great stage presence. All front men were great!Since this is a Poison review, I give them a 100%. From the opening flames, commentary, tribute dancing and singing.. til the very end, completely impressed. Hope they will continue to rock for many more years to come!

Great as always. 4th time seeing them. Bret never disappoints. And hearing him talk about veterans and people serving in the military really touches my heart, as my son is on his third deployment for the Air Force.

Poison Not Touring Until 2025; Bret Michaels Planning for His Own 2023 Tour

Bret Michaels

Poison is currently traveling across the United States for their "The Stadium Tour" in collaboration with Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Joan Jett, and the Blackhearts, and Classless Act, but frontman Bret Michaels confirmed that this would be their last for now.

In an interview with Eddie Trunk of SiriusXM's " Trunk Nation ," the vocalist revealed that it would take another three years for the band to get together again once they wrapped up their current tour in September.

"I'm just saying '25 is probably when Poison will put a humongous world tour together and go back out and be incredible. And it'll be awesome," he said. (via WGRD 97.9 )

Fans shouldn't be sad as Michaels has plans for his fans. He told the host that he's currently planning a "Party Gras" tour next year.

The tour was supposed to kick off this year, but "The Stadium Tour" initially got canceled for two years before rescheduling in 2022.

During the early days of the pandemic, the singer said they didn't know if their current tour was going to push through so he prayed every day that it goes well because they have been waiting to perform since 2020.

Now that their tour is nearing its final date, he's going to push the "Party Gras Tour."

Teasing fans about what to expect in the music event, Michaels said he put together "something incredible" for the 2023 shows.

"I think it's gonna be insane and gonna be the 'all thriller, no filler' summer party. And you'll know what I mean when it hits the stage. It's really an exciting idea," he revealed.

Explaining more about the event, the vocalist noted that the upcoming tour will revolve around his solo band, but fans should watch out for guest music acts that will be a part of the lineup.

He added that the concert will be "nothing but a good time" and they only select dates in all the amphitheaters.

The recent news comes a month after Poison missed  "The Stadium Tour's" Nashville, Tennessee, show due to "an unforseen medical complication."

Bassist Bobby Dall confirmed shocking news on social media that Michaels had been hospitalized due to a "bad reaction to a medication."

According to Def Leppard's official website, their next show would be at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 5.

The bands will wrap up their "The Stadium Tour" at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 9.

Bret Michaels Doesn’t Think Poison Will Tour Again Until 2025, Teases ‘Party Gras’ Tour for 2023

Poison are putting a real thorn in its touring plans after The Stadium Tour  wraps this September. Though the '80s hair metal act has been enjoying a real uptick from the exposure of the massive national trek, appearing nightly alongside headliners Def Leppard and Motley Crue , it may be another three years before you can see them onstage again.

Speaking to radio host Eddie Trunk for his SiriusXM show, "Trunk Nation" on August 1, frontman Bret Michaels explained, "I'm just saying '25 is probably when Poison will put a humongous world tour together and go back out and be incredible. And it'll be awesome."

You could give the guy a pass for needing a break after the 36-date, three-month Stadium Tour. Michaels, who is diabetic, was even hospitalized early on in the trek reportedly due to a reaction to "bad medication," forcing Poison to miss the Nashville date.

But, in fact, he has other plans. As Michaels told Trunk, there is a Party Gras tour to get to. Yes, the Party Gras. Originally planning it for 2022, before knowing that the The Stadium Tour would be pushed back by two years due to the pandemic, the party will now kick off in 2023.

"With everything going on in the world, we didn't know if The Stadium Tour was gonna go [ahead]. I prayed every day — I'm, like, 'I hope this goes. I've been waiting since '20,'" Michaels told Trunk. "But for me, this year we were gonna do the Party Gras Tour. I put together something incredible, and now we're gonna launch that in '23. And when I tell you what this is and the way we've designed it with everybody, it's an incredible amphitheater tour that's just gonna be ... I think it's gonna be insane and gonna be the 'all thriller, no filler' summer party. And you'll know what I mean when it hits the stage. It's really an exciting idea."

Elaborating further, Michaels explained that the Party Gras Tour will be focused on his solo band, but there might be some surprises with additional acts lined up. "This would be my own band, in '23," he affirmed. "We know [who the other acts are]; we just don't wanna say it yet. ... Like I said, it's all-thriller, no-filler, all-original-singer, nothing but hits that just is gonna roll. Truly when I use the words 'nothing but a good vibe' or 'nothing but a good time,' it is gonna be that kind of night. And we're only pick select dates in all the amphitheaters, Live Nation amphitheaters, and then take it out to the festivals and everything along with it."

Party on, Bret.

The Stadium Tour is happening now through September 9. Get tickets here.

BRET MICHAELS: POISON Will 'Do Another Big Stadium And Arena Tour In 2025'

During a February 25 question-and-answer session aboard the Rock Legends Cruise XI , Bret Michaels spoke about POISON 's plans to regroup for more shows following the band's 2022 participation in "The Stadium Tour" alongside MÖTLEY CRÜE , DEF LEPPARD and Joan Jett . he said: "When we go back, I think in 2025, it's always been, to me, all-original POISON . We'll have C.C [ DeVille , guitar] and Bobby [ Dall , bass] and Rikki [ Rockett , drums] and myself and go do another big stadium tour and arena tour in 2025."

Regarding his motivation for going back out on the road with POISON after spending most of his time touring with his solo band, Bret said: "We've known each other since we've been in junior high school… I wouldn't be here without Bobby or Rikki or C.C. And then, as you go along, we've been together a long time — still great friends. If anyone saw 'The Stadium Tour' , that was a party. And when you're out there with that DEF LEPPARD and MÖTLEY and Joan , you're talking A-plus awesomeness. And we just came out and brought it.

"For me, what it is, we do about a couple of years solo, and then we'll go out and do 35 or 40 dates with POISON ," he explained. "And we set it up, we schedule it."

POISON 's long-delayed North American trek with DEF LEPPARD , MÖTLEY CRÜE and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS was originally planned for 2020 and later moved to 2021 and then to 2022.

In 2018, POISON completed the "Nothin' But A Good Time" tour with CHEAP TRICK and POP EVIL .

POISON 's last album of new material was 2002's "Hollyweird" . An album of covers, "Poison'd" , followed in 2007.

Back in 2018, Dall said that POISON "should" be making a new studio album but claimed that he didn't know if it would happen. "I'm not going to bullshit you and say there's any [new music] in the process [of being made]," he told All That Shreds . "Would I like there to be? Yes. But, it's a matter of everyone having the time. Everybody in the band has other commitments. Some members have younger children than others. So between those two issues, it's difficult, and, you know, [there are] health issues as we get older. Should we be making a new record? Yes, definitely. But will it happen? I don't know."

In a 2017 interview, Rikki acknowledged that part of the reason the band hasn't been motivated to work on new music has been the fact that fans rarely show interest in hearing fresh material performed live when classic rock groups go on tour. "We could write the second coming of 'Talk Dirty To Me' , and I don't know if people wanna hear it or not, and that's a frustrating thing; it really is," he said. " AEROSMITH was able to do it, but not everybody is. I mean, even THE ROLLING STONES have had problems with that in the last few years. So… I don't know. But I do think it's important to stay viable. For the 'über fans,' it's always a really, really good thing. And that's what you do it for — you do it for you, you do it for the real fans, the real true fans."

More recently, Rockett admitted that he and other members of POISON harbored some resentment toward Michaels , whose frequent tours as a solo artist caused the band to take a five-year break from the road.

"I think we need to get away from each other and do other things, but at the same time, I think he spent a little too much time away," Rockett said. "There's definitely some resentment, but not resentment like I want him to fail. I want him to do good. I just want POISON to be important too, and I would like [him] to put a little more energy into POISON ."

Warren Zeiders was sick + out on tour when “Pretty Little Poison” hit #1

poison on tour 2023

If you thought Warren Zeiders was in full party mode the week “Pretty Little Poison” hit #1, you’re wrong.

Unfortunately, as Warren recounts, he was under the weather and was trying to get on the mend while juggling a busy tour schedule.

“You know, I’m a firm believer in the fact that God has a sense of humor. So when I went #1, I happened to be sick for two weeks straight [and was] trying to get over that while on tour,” Warren recounts to ABC Audio.

“Needless to say, I think it’s a great example of a pinch-me moment. You’re still living, you’re still breathing. The good and bad, ebb and flow can all happen to you even in the highest moments,” he notes.

Regardless, Warren’s thankful now to have his career-first #1 under his belt.

“Hearing those words still doesn’t feel real,” says the country newcomer. “I’m just very grateful for it.”

“Pretty Little Poison” is the title track of Warren’s 2023 debut album, which received the deluxe treatment in February.

Later this fall, Warren will join Jelly Roll on his Beautifully Broken Tour. For tickets and Warren’s full tour schedule, head to his website.
