Great customer service

I was struggling to find the holiday I wanted going from Gatwick online, but when I called Jane sorted everything in no time! As I was booking for 2 couples she held the booking until I had spoken to our friends and thought about requesting hotel rooms near each other too.

Excellent service from friendly staff

Sian was really helpful and answered all my questions regarding my booking. When I called back as i was having trouble completing our passport information on line the young lady was extremely pleasant and completed everything for us. Excellent service both times - polite and friendly.

From initial decision to have a group booking on a Danube cruise, through the booking process with the Groups of Riviera, to the cruise itself, everything went very smoothly without any problems. The cruise itself was most enjoyable, so much so that a further group booking was commenced immediately on our return.

the booking process was very easy, what made it special was the Riviera representative, as a first time cruiser l did not know what questions to ask, she spent time to help and inform.

The consultant who took our booking by phone was knowledgeable, helpful, efficient and was an asset to Rivera Travel. Her name was Lusia. HOWEVER Rivera Travel's marketing is idiotic. We are previous satisfied customers from Australia who wanted to book another holiday with Rivera but each time we go to access your website it just takes us to you Boat Cruise holidays which we have absolutely no interest in. We phoned your office in England and the helpful guy told us we had to hide our vpn to see your other holidays. In the end we looked at Guardian holidays and stumbled across Rivera's tours on there. Having found a holiday we wanted we phoned and booked it. Why you just trying to sell cruises to your Australian customers makes no sense to me. You have satisfied customers and then you make it really difficult to give you repeat business. Nonsense. Regards Geoff Cox

Needed more detail

I needed more detail than was on the website. When I rang, the person I spoke to was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and was prepared to hold the booking while I spoke to the friend I am travelling with. When I rang back to confirm, all was completed simply and quickly. Great service!

From arriving on Sicily we were greeted by DANIELLA our tour guide and PIPO ( COACH DRIVER) who proved to be far more than excellent - exceptional in every way. Daniella's knowledge re arrangement of visits in order to miss cruise ship arrivals etc was really appreciated. Amazing holiday

We had our first trip with riviera in February 24 to Vietnam and Cambodia.We had the best time well organised and looked after very well.Our guide was called Pauline,she was so lovely very knowledgeable and went over and beyond for us.We we’re so impressed I have just booked a riviera river cruise next December for my husband’s 50th birthday

Little attention to detail and not friendly helpful service.

On my this occasion my experience when booking our latest trip with Riviera Travel was very poor. I called to confirm a reservation that was on hold and when I received the booking confirmation it was incorrect and the train times were all changed. The lady who made the reservation was not very helpful, not very efficient and if this was my first expeirence with this company it would not encourange me to return.

Niki is a great ambassador for the company

So far so good - Booking made and hope the trip matches the booking experience. Niki is a great ambassador for the company - She never failed to respond to a query in a timely and thorough manner having actively listened to me. SUCH a difference to other companies in that she really is interested in what she does - You can hear her smiling on the phone and clearly she loves her job. Nice one!

Avoid this company. Once they have your money they are not interested

Good prior to the holiday but no real interest on comments as to what was not right on the tour. Don’t bother using this company - better ones out there

The right balance of sightseeing and relaxation

We have used Riviera 4 times before and had a look at their Sicily tour. Yet again Riviera has got the balance of sightseeing and relaxing right. Our only previous gripe was that the hotels weren’t as good as we would have chosen but they have upgraded the hotels to 4*s with excellent reviews. With the smaller Signature group it came out top of the options we considered.

Train travel to/from Burgundy River Cruise proves a better option

Having already made a provisional booking pending feedback of Riviera's Travel Concierge service details, it transpired the service did not include transport from the destination airport to the ship. In my case the distance involved was 92.5km (Montpelier to Avignon) - mmm. After investigating alternative London outbound departure airports which proved not suitable regarding departure times, it called for a total change from air to rail travel. My sincere thanks to Nicki C for the efficient manner she conducted the booking procedure including full details of the rail travel both ways with change in Paris en-route.

A Solo Traveller Rant

I'm quite disappointed. I was recommended Riviera after finding Titan and Great Rail have dropped their standards. I'd booked the Maritime Canada trip, September 2023, fly from Heathrow. I live in the North West and 'Fly from your local airport.....' does not include a Manchester shuttle. The much vaunted Concierge service is.... only for cruises. So I thought I'd transfer to a Solo 4 night holiday in Germany from Manchester. Riviera, really .....over £100 per night, yep, £100 PER NIGHT, more than the standard price? So single, non-cruise, non SE travellers are effectively being discriminated against? Such a shame, I had such high hopes.

Unfortunately with regards to our Canada tour, there are no flights from Manchester to Canada and there are no suitable connecting flights either. Without having more specific information regarding the date you have now booked to travel to Germany with us it is hard to be fully accurate. However if you compare our April departures, our standard classic tour is £849, plus a single supplement of £175 = £1024 Our solo tour by comparison is £1169 – but that includes a welcome drink on arrival, a welcome dinner, porterage at both hotels, airport meet and greet assistance in the UK and we operate with a smaller group of 25 maximum on our solo tours, rather than 50 for our standard tour. We hope this helps to clarify but please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected] if you require further information as we would be keen to resolve any queries you have. Booking easy peasy

We applied online for a holiday not starting until 2024, and had no trouble at all apart from having an early booking discount applied. Phoned next day and the situation was sorted quickly and politely. This firm also handled a booking during the Covid crisis with professionalism and sensitivity. Cannot praise them highly enough.

Very poor customer service - avoid

I booked a cruise from Venice to Split with Riviera Travel with flights to and from Bristol. They contacted me last week to let me know that it was not possible to fly from Bristol and offered us flights from Gatwick. We live in Bath and so it is not the most convenient change to our flights. I requested that they provide one night's stay in Gatwick for the night before we fly to Venice. They declined this request which is their prerogative. I have therefore cancelled a £13,000 cruise for the sake of probably £300. I also wish to mention that their customer service is poor and unhelpful. I will not be recommending them and I will never use them in the future.

Awful Douro cruise

Awful from start to finish cold food at Breakfast Luke warm lunch and dinner poor entertainment excursions not worth going on ship small small cabin nowhere to hang your clothes nowhere to put your shoes very poor value for money in compensation for such a bad experience they offered vouchers off another cruise no cash drinks package£99 per person no choice of wine just wine of the day so if you didnt like it there wasnt an alternative i wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Excellent with flawless customer service

Excellent! We took our 3rd Riviera Cruise. This time, we brought along my parents-in-law for a week long cruise along the River Douro in Portugal. The service, particularly that of the wonderful cruise director (Kassima), was nigh perfect from beginning to end. The tours were excellently selected and ensured that we got the most from the sites and port cellars we visited. We have since booked another tour with Riviera for the first quarter of 2024. Highly, highly recommended!

Fabulous relatively new ship

Fabulous relatively new ship, very comfortable cabin and beautiful food. Liked the separate bistro restaurant, and at breakfast cooked menu was freshly prepared. Wine also available reasonably by the glass. Initially I was perturbed that at most destinations arrival was not until after lunch. On reflection this was not a bad thing, we had plenty of time at each stop and allowed us to relax more. Two criticisms. 1. Soup without a soup spoon and cereal from a soup bowl is not what you expect from a five star claim (problems of the first world!). 2. More-so, I am majorly critical of the request for gratuities. Firstly most cruise liners include and secondly the cruise company should be paying a proper wage where the employee is not reliant on the generosity of guests. After all we pay substantially and this is the 21st century! Finally this type of river cruise is very much for the older less active clientele, so be warned!

Really? Can't bother looking it up yourself? Duoro river.

1. Overall boring. The story of port repeated daily ad nauseum. 2. Food was awful tasteless British cooking, no regional fare, not even the basic - linguisa or salt cod. 3. On ship entertainment was absurd. A phony cooking demo and origami towel folding. Fado? Never heard of it? 4. Several employees treated passengers like children, specifically a director whose name I can't remember - Anthony, Antonio? Childish himself and talked down. 5. Tour leader, male, also can't remember name. Enormous ego. Became rude on an excursion when asked to use the microphone unit before he thought it was needed. 6. All inclusive should mean just that. Don't tell me I must tip and and exactly how much.

Not as advertised

Sneaking in a major change to the itinerary, without a word of explanation or apology, meant the boat was berthed in the suburbs of Antwerp for three nights instead of one. The official explanation weeks afterwards ought to form part of their publicity blurb because I for one would not have booked had I known about the unreliability of their river management. Taxis (the drivers were pals of the ship’s crew and had neither sign nor meter) were essential to reach civilisation and cost a fortune. The restaurant staff were exceptional. The “entertainment” was dire as were the packed lunches. All in all, this was not so much a river cruise as a tortuous coach trip.

Riviera River cruise on the Danube

We enjoyed our beautiful stateroom on our Riviera River cruise. The Staff is friendly and accommodating. The food was great. The tour director was helpful and informative. He and his team made sure we really enjoyed our Danube River cruise. We cruised past small Hungarian and Austrian villages, castles and vineyards. The October landscape was gorgeous with fall colors.

Fabulous !!!!!

We have recently been on the Budapest to Vienna river cruise. One word - wow!!!!! Loved every single moment - the best holiday ever. The staff were amazing - especially Raoul and Karen - the boat was immaculate and the food was superb. I cannot criticise anything and I wouldn't hesitate to book again- amazing 😻

River Duro - Douro Splendour

Can't fault Riviera Travel for an efficient customer service. Through no fault of the Company our cruise had to be changed. All the re-arrangements were made swiftly and smoothly. Although our original dates were for special reasons, we were grateful for the delay as the weather was brilliant! The Cruise itself and excursions were what we had expected and will look to go again sometime in the future. Helena, Andrea, Jose and Daniella to name but a few made our trip so enjoyable and relaxing. The Douro Splendour crew and staff also looked after us well and most obliging. We even had personal message from Phil Hullah apologising for the disappointment of the delay but everything worked in our favour.

Cruise ship: MS William Wordsworth

Cruise: Budapest to Black Sea: the ship was spacious, airy, very comfortable. Staff were professional yet friendly and very welcoming. Food was good, lots of options, and catered well for food allergies. Entertainment ok. Daily briefings plus information sheets were very useful, as was the 'daily news' sheets. It would have been nice if Riviera advertised the 'extras' on Deck 3 as we would have booked that rather than the drinks package which we felt was quite expensive for what and when you could use it. Also, the trip to Bucharest was a waste of time due to heavy traffic - not sure how they could get round this though. All in all a really enjoyable cruise.

The entire staff was very polite and friendly, always smiling. They made us happy to be there. The tours were very interesting and each one led by knowledgeable, professional guides. The food was much better than on another river boat company I had chosen (because it was cheaper). It wasn't worth the saving; it's not something you do everyday. I'd choose and recommend Riviera River Cruises again.

last minute itinerary change

we are going on our first Riviera river cruise next week and very disappointed that the itinerary is already changed with 3 nights in Antwerp rather than cruising to Gent. if I had wanted a coach holiday I would have booked one. Hope the rest of our experience is better.

Exceptional experience

Just come off our first ever river cruise on the Emily Brontë from Budapest. It was exceptional from start to finish. From the superb cabin, the staff (lead by the attention to detail Christian and our fabulous tour director Peter) nothing was too much trouble. The excursions, food and amenities were everything we had hoped for. They even laid on shuttle buses to take us into Budapest on our last day, as our flight was late in the evening. Could not fault a thing. We are looking forward to sailing with Riviera again in hopefully, the not too distant future.

We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise on the MS Emily Bronte

We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise on the MS Emily Bronte from Budapest. The ship is gorgeous. Although we had done a similar itinerary on another cruise line, the excursions were unique enough we got to experience different sites. We loved the morning in Dürnstein, Austria, what a pretty medieval village. The food was plentiful, with lots of choices. Always delicious . The staff were friendly, attentive and eager to please. Looking forward to another voyage soon!

A Wonderful First Timer Experience

The ship experience was fantastic. The crew were absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed the dining and were particularly impressed with the gluten-free options. The staterooms packed in the amenities and storage. As you are looking to grow the U.S. market, I would focus on pre-travel documents. Most lines will do luggage tags and pre-travel info will be specific to the U.S. My documents said, "As you head back to the UK. As small thing but something to consider for the future.

We enjoyed the Douro Cruise very much

We enjoyed the Douro Cruise very much. Accommodation and food was very good. The only issue was upon disembarking there was confusion as we were travelling on our own Porto to Lisbon, being picked up at 8.30 a.m. We were told luggage was to be left outside our suite and they would be taken up to reception area. Even though we mentioned this to reception, our luggage was not brought up and we had to bring it up ourselves. To avoid this happpening to someone else, we suggest Reception and Tour Guide are aware of passnegers travelling on their own and not on the Riviera transportation.

Riviera River Cruise is the BEST!

Riviera River Cruise is unbelievable well run from start to finish. The accommodations, the staff, the food and the tours were beyond belief. We HIGHLY recommend this cruise line and would be thrilled to travel with them again. There are no hidden fees or EXTRA cost other than if you want the beverage package for alcoholic beverages more than what is offered.

Five star luxury on the Oscar Wilde

I have just returned from a Rhine river cruise to Switzerland for solo travellers on the MS Oscar Wilde. Everything about this ship is truly five star. The food is wonderful and the service throughout was exceptional. I cant praise all of the crew highly enough. I have brought back some wonderful memories and have already booked the Douro cruise for next year

First River Cruise

Althought not my first cruise, this was my first river cruise. The accommodations were very comfortable and bathroom was spacious. The food and wine was excellent! The staff was very friendly, fun and attentive!! The tours were amazing. I really enjoyed visting so many small towns and historical sites. I can't wait for my next river cruise experience :-)

Liked it, but won't do it again

I enjoyed the cruise, but found the staff when I boarded less friendly. The staff seemed to cater to the couples, with chat and smiles, while my food, for instance, was dropped before me with a "bon appetit" on the shoulder. I could hardly wait to get out of the dining room except during buffets. However, the food was wonderful, and the excursions very well organized.

Very straightforward booking process

Left in limbo for 10 days

Very helpful when securing booking but took nearly ten days after deposit paid to confirm holiday due to confirming flights ( how long does it take to book a flight?!). During this time no personal updates and I had to chase. Clearly the system took over with no ownership of my booking and I was left in limbo not knowing if I had a holiday or not and unable to seek alternatives as they were holding my deposit.

I recently traveled to Israel with…

I recently traveled to Israel with Rivera and did the 1 week Jerusalem, Galilee, and the dead sea tour. I traveled with my 18-year-old daughter. We had a fantastic time, we loved every minute of it. The hotels were good and clean and the food was more than adequate with a huge array of choices. This tour is not for the faint-hearted, it's a packed itinerary. Without a doubt, the trip was made as good as it was by our tour manager Carolina, who was the sweetest person and really looked after us, and by our exceptional guide Orian whose knowledge and delivery made every site we visited fascinating. I loved the Q&A on the bus around Israeli politics and the rundown of all the Eurovision entries Israel has ever had. I've never done a tour before but I'm utterly hooked. The old city of Jerusalem and Masada stood out but due to the amazing team, my desire to know more about this complex and unique country may result in another visit.

Longer time to complete payment

Our trip starts on April 3, 2023 and payment was required no later than January 2, 2023, three months before starting to provide the service, I think completing payment until one month before the start of the trip is already a great advance.

Friendly, helpful and well informed

Fairly rapid connection to a real person when I phoned who listened to my questions and gave me good and fair advice. He also called me back when he promised to and responded to my emails within hours. All in all, I am very impressed with this company. I haven't used them before but, so far, so very good.

A holiday worth repeating

Apart from the transfer from Eurostar to the ship every thing was perfect. We arrived later than expected but the crew immediately took over. The booking process took a few minutes,our luggage was taken to the cabin and we were taken to the restaurant where friendly staff took our orders and served hot fresh food. Throughout the holiday all of the staff were attentive without being overbearing. The gala dinner equalled Michelin meals we have had at home. We were able to do the included excursions with or without a guide at our own pace. We have already booked another cruise for next year
