Rome airport train rides are the most affordable transit option from FCO to Civitavecchia Port. However, they aren’t convenient, as they require a change of line. Still, they remain a value-for-money alternative for many travelers on a budget. Explicitly, the train options from Rome Airport to Cruise Port are:

Leonardo Express

The fast train runs from the airport train station, lying in front of T3 close to both terminals, to Roma Termini in the city center. Leonardo Express needs only 32 minutes to get to Termini Station and costs 14€/15.40$. In that case, they are already validated and must be used within 90 minutes of the set time. Alternatively, you can buy them from some retail stores, the airport ticket offices (from 06:45 am to 10:12 pm), or the automatic vendors. Once reaching Roma Termini, you’ll hop on the FrecciaBianca route to Civitavecchia.  Thus, the overall rail ride from Rome Airport to Civitavecchia Port will last around 96 minutes and cost about 30€/33$. Regional FL1 Trains

Instead of the fast Leonardo Express, you can take the somewhat slower yet also cheaper FL1 Train, running every 15 minutes from the airport train station from 05:57 am to 11:27 pm. The Nearest Airport in Rome to the Cruise Port

January 27, 2024

By Sarah Anderson

If you’re planning a Mediterranean cruise departing from Rome, one of the first questions you may have is which airport is closest to the cruise port. The answer depends on which port your cruise will be departing from and what airport you will be flying into. Rome has two major airports, Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and Ciampino Airport (CIA), both of which have transportation options to the cruise port.

Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport is the main international airport in Rome and is the largest and busiest airport in Italy. It is located about 20 miles southwest of Rome’s city center. This airport is the closest to the main cruise port of Civitavecchia, which is about an hour’s drive away. It is also well-connected to the city center by train and bus, making it a convenient option for cruise passengers.

Ciampino Airport, on the other hand, is a smaller airport located about 7.5 miles southeast of Rome’s city center. It primarily serves low-cost airlines and charter flights. While Ciampino Airport is not as close to the main cruise port as Fiumicino Airport, it is still an option for cruise passengers. The airport is well-connected to the city center by bus and has transportation options to the cruise port, although the journey may take a bit longer due to the distance.

Ultimately, the choice of airport will depend on various factors such as flight availability, cost, and convenience. If you are flying into Rome for a cruise, it is recommended to check which airport your cruise line recommends or offers transportation from. 5. Airport Facilities: Look for airport facilities and amenities that can enhance your travel experience. Some airports offer a wide range of dining, shopping, and entertainment options, making your layovers more enjoyable.

6. Immigration and Customs: If you’re traveling internationally, consider the immigration and customs processes at different airports. Some airports may have faster and more efficient procedures, reducing your wait times and making your journey smoother.

How To Get To Civitavecchia From Rome Airport

Situated on the Southern part of Italy is Civitavecchia Port . Civitavecchia this port serves as a transfer and start/stop point for a large number of cruises and other boats every year. Sometimes referred to as Port of Rome , this port plays a significant role in cruise-based tourism in Rome and the surrounding cities. Referring to the port as the Port of Rome can be deceiving though as the port isn’t actually located in the city of Rome. On a map, you will see that the only major waterway in Rome is the Tiber River, and they don’t send large cruise ships up the river.

Instead, Civitavecchia Port is located in the city of Civitavecchia. This city is located about an hour and 5o minutes (70.5 km) away by car from Fiumicino Rome Airport. As a large number of tourists to Rome come over via cruise ships, a lot of people often want to know more about the Port of Civitavecchia. With that in mind, we have created this mini guide to help you get the information you need.

Not everyone wants to drive to Civitavecchia to board a cruise, or even can. That means flying into the local airport, Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport. The Fiumicino Airport is located near Rome but not in Rome itself, that means getting from the airport to Civitavecchia will need some planning. We recommend doing this planning before you start your trip.

Here are some options for getting from Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport to Civitavecchia City/Port.

Cruise Ship Transport

Almost all cruise lines offer buses too and from the airport. These are easy to get on as they will take you right to where you need to go and know the answers to all of your questions. You do pay a very high rate for one of these transports. Cruise companies make a lot of their money this way.

Private Transfer/Private Car

An alternative to using the transport that a cruise ship arranges is having a private transfer/private car take you from the airport to Civitavecchia Port. This typically costs less money and is anywhere between 29 euros a person to 90 euros a person.

Taxi Service

The Rome Airport is a decent amount of time away from Civitavecchia Port, just about 50 km to give you an idea. That is a long taxi ride and taking a taxi will cost you over 120 euros. We recommend that you take one of the other transportation methods because a taxi usually ends up costing far more than its worth unless other methods are too busy.

book your taxi trasfer here

By far train is one of the most economical ways to get to Civitavecchia Port from the Rome Airport . In total you will spend no more than 40 euros. However, you make up for the cost in the amount of time riding and transferring trains takes. A shuttle train will take you from Rome Airport to Rome where you will catch the main train.

This train will take you to the Civitavecchia Train Station and you can walk from the station to the port. You will spend upwards of 2 hours on trains. Make sure to factor in time for walking from the train station to the port.

Written by: Kate Zusmann

Which Rome Airport is Closest to Cruise Port

Rome is one of the most famous ports of call on lots of cruises in the Mediterranean. The Rome cruise port is in the city of Civitavecchia, located on the coast. The distance between Fiumicino airport and Civitavecchia port is 65 km.

distance between Fiumicino airport and Civitavecchia cruise port is 65 km

While distance between the port and Ciampino airport is 85 km.

distance between the cruise port and Ciampino airport is 85 km

Very frequent trains run between Civitavecchia and Rome’s central Termini Station, offering cheapest transfer options for travelers (starting from 4.50 euro for a single ride). Moreover, you can reach most of other Roman train stations directly from Civitavecchia.

From Termini Station you can easily get to both Ciampino and Fiumicino airports. In case with Ciampino, the best option will be to take a bus which goes from Termini to the airport and you can choose among several bus operators that operate daily from 4.35 am until 11.10 pm. The price for a single ride starts from 4 euro. You can read more about how to get to Ciampino airport.

Talking about Fiumicino airport, the most convenient option is to take Leonardo Express train from Termini directly to the airport, which costs 14 euro for a single ride. Another good option is to go from/to the port to/from one of the airports by taking a taxi or by ordering a private transfer on Mercedes.

The trip by car will take 45-60 minutes, while travelling from Civitavecchia by a typical train will take 40 minutes to reach S. Pietro (15 min walk to the Vatican City and St. Peter’s square ), 50 minutes to reach Trastevere (best bars and restaurants and you can easy reach city center by foot or by taking tram 8), 55 minutes to reach Ostiense, and, finally, 70 minutes to reach Termini station.

Civitavecchia cruise port to/from City of Rome by train

Using the train for travelling between rome & its cruise port.

Rome train to Civitavecchia, Rome's Cruise Port

There is a very good train service between Rome and Rome's Cruise Port, Civitavecchia. The core service is broadly a twice hourly service on commuter style trains taking around 70 to 80 minutes to travel the full route. Punctuality and time keeping are not strong points of this service.

The terminus in the centre of Rome is Termini Station, but there are interim stops attractive to those travelling to and from Fiumicino Airport or have a hotel around the Vatican area.

There are also much less frequent long intercity long distance trains that will do the journey in around 45 minutes non-stop. Tickets for these cost well over double that of the commuter trains.

In 2019 a new service was launched called the Civitavecchia Express , designed for cruise traveller transfers into Rome. This service is quicker and has guaranteed seating, but does not go to Termini Station. Its two station stops are the San Pietro and Ostiense stations. You can either use the bus, taxi or metro to get to Termini station or to explore the rest of Rome.

Rome stations for travelling from Civitavecchia

Trains between Rome City Centre and its airports + cruise ports

The terminus in Rome City Centre, Termini Station, is the main public transport hub for Rome in the city centre.

The trains travel at quite a speed from the outskirts of Rome to Civitavecchia but are frustratingly slow within Rome taking a circuitous route around and into the city centre. Of a typical 80 minute journey, 30 minutes will be spent within the Rome urban area.

For many people it can make sense to get off at other stations than the Rome terminus at Termini, especially if you are on a day trip or going to Fiumicino, Rome's main airport.

Travelling from Civitavecchia a typical train will stop at S. Pietro (40 min), Trastevere (50 min), Ostiense (55 min) and finally Termini (70 min). S. Pietro is around 15 minutes' walk to the Vatican and St Peter's Square.

Trastevere is the interchange for a frequent airport train to Fiumicino Airport.

Ostiense is an interchange with the Rome Metro which can take you direct to the Colosseum or Spanish Steps.

Civitavecchia train tickets & luggage.

Both Civitavecchia and Rome Stations have manned ticket offices that take credit cards and there are also ticket machines. Ticket machines are easy to use, take all major credit cards and support several languages including English.

Beware, the queues at Termini Station especially can be very long for the manned ticket offices.

Most frequencies between Civitavecchia and Rome are by local stopping train. There are infrequent intercity trains that run non-stop between Civitavecchia and Termini Station, in the Civitavecchia to Rome direction punctuality especially is not good.

This is not Switzerland, do give yourself plenty of contingency - the trains are reliable but are subject to delays.

Important - if you buy a ticket for the local trains, it is flexible and you have to stamp it before you board the train using the machines around all the stations. You risk a heavy fine if you produce an unstamped ticket for a ticket inspector. Further details of this are on our main Rome public transport page .

You can also purchase tickets in advance on the Tren Italia website. (use the banner link below.)

Trains between Rome City Centre, its airports + cruise ports

Civitavecchia train interior

The local trains themselves are more often than not run with double deck carriages. The picture is of a typical interior, seats are not allocated.

There is a small space between the seats where you can put a medium size case and overhead luggage rail. It's not as bad as it might look, luggage will be a problem if you have two or more large cases per person, plus hand luggage.

Trains are not normally crowded at all except at the height of the commuter period into Rome, in the morning and out in the evening.

At Rome's Termini Station there is a left luggage office so it is possible to have a brief visit to see the sights of Rome before catching a late flight or train.

Civitavecchia Express - non stop train from Civitavecchia cruise port to central Rome

Civitavecchia Express train Rome

In 2019 a new service was launched called the Civitavecchia Express. This service is designed for cruise passengers, as it connects Civitavecchia with Roma San Pietro and Roma Ostiense stations. Civitavecchia station is about a mile from the cruise port but there are plenty of taxis and a local bus available to take you there.

The Civitavecchia Express service runs four daily journeys from 1 April  to 1 November 2020. Two in the morning, bound for Rome and two in the afternoon bound for Civitavecchia. The timetable was worked out to meet the needs of many cruise travellers who wish to visit Rome in a day. The train times are quicker and more reliable than the commuter trains, there is also guaranteed seating, allowing an easier, more comfortable and faster transfer into Rome.

Fast journey times mean you can get to Roma San Pietro in 35/40 minutes and Roma Ostiense in 55 minutes.

For day trips this train should work well, but if you are staying in a hotel overnight or longer then you need to also consider that the stations visited by the Civitavecchia Express are not in the centre of Rome, so will require a taxi, metro or bus to take you the rest of the way.

You can walk from Roma San Pietro station to the Vatican in about 15 minutes or take a taxi, but if you have plenty of luggage you may not find this so appealing. Again you can use the Roma Ostiense station and transfer to the Metro to then reach Rome Termini, but you'll have to carry luggage across platforms. If Rome Termini is your final destination and your staying longer than one day, you may consider using the slower commuter trains that go directly to the Termini station from Civitavecchia. You can though use the two stations visited by the Civitavecchia Express as a jumping point into the rest of Rome, either through walking, taxi, bus or metro.

The Civitavecchia Express does offer a good solution for travellers from cruise ships who want to visit Rome in a day and for those travellers who travel light and appreciate a more reliable service with guaranteed seats. You can find out train times and ticket details at Civitavecchia Portmobility .

Civitavecchia Station to/from cruise ship

Civitavecchia public bus between station & Largo della Pace

There is no direct public access to cruise ships in the port. You have to use free shuttle buses between individual ships docked and a cruise ship reception area called Largo della Pace just outside one of the dock gates, from here there is a local bus to the railway station or you can walk or take a taxi.

By public bus

Local public buses leave from outside the main exit of the train station running roughly every 20 minutes, these take less than 10 minutes to Largo della Pace. The bus ticket can be bought at the news-stand or at the bar inside the station.

Local taxi cabs are also available immediately in front of the main exit to Civitavecchia Train Station as an alternative to the public bus to Largo della Pace.

It is possible to walk between the train station and Largo della Pace in about 15 minutes, though with luggage it may take longer.

The route is pretty straightforward with pretty smooth rights of way which you can roll your luggage along.

From the front entrance of the railway station turn right down the small access road to the wide coastal road and cross this road immediately to the promenade and turn right towards the centre of town.

The promenade footpath is very wide, parallel to the sea and very smooth without kerbs to negotiate. After about 5 minutes you come to the dock gates with a McDonald's on your right and the imposing Fort Michelangelo on your left.

Walk through the gates and immediately cross to the right hand side of the road. Now just follow the dock side, ignoring the spur that goes out to the left immediately after entering through the dock gates.

Now just follow the pedestrian path as it winds through the docks past fishing boats, and a terminal with toilets and shops. Most of the way the path is just a cordoned off strip of tarmac separate to the road and again the surface is very smooth. Eventually you come to a road junction by another set of dock gates and you just follow the pedestrian signs out of the docks labelled “Shuttle Bus To Cruise” to the Largo della Pace facility on the opposite side of the road to the port exit.

Day trip to Rome? Maybe get off train at St Peter's (S. Pietro)

S. Pietro Station - visit St Peter's as part of your cruise ship stopover

If you are visiting Rome on a stopover on a cruise ship, the train is an excellent way of avoiding the high prices of the cruise line offerings. The Civitavecchia Express has been designed with this very market in mind.

For most doing such a day trip on the public train, it is a good idea to get off the train at S. Pietro (St Peter's). Not only is it marginally cheaper than going to the terminus at Termini Station, but it will save you 30 minutes, maybe more. St Peter's Station is only 10 minutes' walk from St Peter's Square and the Vatican Museums. All the Rome hop-on hop-off sightseeing buses park in front of St Peter's Square.

There are also local buses from in front of St Peter's Station that will take you into the very heart of Rome.

Walking directions S. Pietro Station to St Peter's Square.

By foot, on leaving the front of St Peter's Station there is a small square where the bus terminus is located. With the station building behind you, turn left at the back of the square down the Via Innocenzo, a one-way street with the traffic including the buses coming towards you.

Walk on the right hand side of the road and after about 100 yards/metres take the first right down the Via Nicolo. Walk to the end of Via Nicolo, (only about 75 yards) and turn left into the Via della Stazione di S.Pietro. You will see a petrol/gas station about 50 yards in front of you at a fork in the road. Our route forks right here in front of the petrol station down the Via Alcide de Gasperi keeping to the left hand side of this road.

After about 100 yards the Via Alcide de Gasperi joins the busy Via Delle Fornaci from the right. Keep on the left hand side of the road and you soon come to a wide underpass for pedestrians that takes you under a busy road. On the other side you see the Roman Columns of St Peter's Square immediately in front of you.

rome italy cruise port to airport

We will get off the cruise Monday (around 9am), and our flight out of Rome is Friday at 5pm. We are looking to go somewhere other than Rome during this time (and probably do not want to stay in another city).

I have considered going South and spending this time along the Amalfi Coast , or going North and doing Tuscany / Cinque Terre . I figure by the time we get off the cruise Monday and get to a destination, we won’t have a ton of time that day. That leaves us with 3 full days, and we will have to be at FCO by 2pm on Friday. Any other suggestions on where to go for these few days? Would Cinque Terre or Amalfi be better for 3 days and children under 10?

Have a look at http://www.trenitalia.com/en for the schedules.

The transfer to the Amalfi area would be more challenging with public transport.

Would you recommend staying in Cinque Terre for 3-4 nights, or have a base elsewhere and take day trips just visiting Cinque Terre for a day?

My other suggestion would be Lucca , since it's an excellent choice for a family. You can, also hire a car in Lucca and do a day visit to the CT or the lovely surrounding areas around Lucca.

Are you willing to rent a car and drive? You could pick up a car right at the port exit and return it to the airport in Rome on your final day (check autoeurope for rates). This would allow you to stay in an agriturismo in Tuscany and explore the hill towns easily.

The Amalfi Coast would also be a mob scene. If you're looking for a beach, maybe Sperlonga would be a better choice.

Re: parking in Lucca . We use the underground car park "Mazzini" inside the walls on Via dei Bacchettoni each year when we stay in Lucca with our own car . Enter through Porta Elisa, take the first turning immediately on the right and it's about 300 meters on the left hand side. When you leave the car park turn left, follow the road until the first Piazza (Luigi Varanini) again about 300 meters, and turn right through Porta San Jacopo to join the Lucca ring road. Very straightforward, be aware of the need to observe the directions to/from Park Mazzini so as to avoid fines from the ZTL cameras.

Try pillowy-soft burrata cheese in Puglia, Sicilian eggplant and ricotta signature pasta alla norma , and classic Neopolitan-style Margherita pizza in its birthplace, Naples. Seafood’s a real Adriatic superstar; don’t miss Slovenian seafood rizota (risotto) - with a glass of local white rebula wine - and Dalmatian pašticada (beef stew) and rožata custard pudding in Croatia. Insider tips Good to know in every situation

When visiting religious sites such as churches, mosques or synagogues, dress modestly, particularly in the Middle East. Opt for long sleeves, and keep your shoulders, back and legs covered. A lightweight scarf or sarong can come in handy as a makeshift headscarf or coverup, which can be easily thrown on at the last minute if it’s unexpectedly required.

Sprawling ancient marvels and Europe’s cobblestone-lined, often narrow city streets are best explored on foot. To ensure you make the most of things, pack a well-worn-in pair of comfortable shoes, and some trusty blister plasters, just in case.

Temperatures in the Middle East and the Med can really soar, plus there’s plenty of time spent on beaches and in the desert on this segment, so invest in a decent wide-brimmed hat, eco-friendly sunscreen, and keep a refillable bottle of water with you as you explore.

Livorno Cruise Port Guide &The Best Things to Do

Does your cruise stop in livorno italy here’s everything you should know about the livorno cruise port..

On the west coast of Italy sits Livrono, a lively port city that is the gateway for cruisers to two of Italy’s most iconic cities: Pisa and Florence.

Perched within Tuscany, this colorful city is the third-largest in the region. Being so conveniently located near many of Italy’s popular attractions, there really is an abundance for cruisers to see and do.

As a travel advisor who specializes in cruises, I have extensive knowledge of cruise ports and the best shore excursions for each.

In this article, I’m going to tell you everything you need to know about Livorno Cruise Port and how to best plan your visit.

I can plan your excursions (and cruise) for you FOR FREE!

Planning a cruise or excursion can be overwhelming and stressful. Let me take care of it for you – I can book your cruise or excursions at no additional cost.

Where is Livorno Cruise Port Located?

Livorno Cruise Port is located within the main Port of Livorno which sits right beside Livorno city, on the northwest coast of Italy.

Within the Tuscany region in Italy, Livorno is the closest cruise port to Pisa and Florence.

Pisa is a 40-minute taxi ride or a 20-minute train journey from Livorno Cruise Port and Florence is a 1.5-hour taxi ride or train journey from the cruise terminal.

The Livorno Cruise Port is vast with berths that can accommodate up to 8 cruise ships at any one time. The berths are dotted around the harbor, on different piers.

Beside each berth are a taxi rank, tourist information center, car rental stand, and opportunities to book day trips and tours.

How to Get to Livorno City Center from the Cruise Port

The cruise port is located within a working industrial port and to journey from the cruise port to Livorno city, you’d have to travel through the working part of the port which is in fact not permitted on foot for health and safety reasons.

The good news is that the port offers a shuttle service from the cruise terminal to Piazza Grande, in the city center.

From Piazza Grande, it’s a 30-minute walk to Livorno Centrale, the main train station in the city.

Alternatively, there is a taxi rank beside every cruise terminal so you can grab a taxi directly to your destination.

Are There Free Shuttles From Livorno Cruise Port?

There are shuttle buses to Livorno city center offered to every cruise ship passenger. However, the cost depends on your cruise liner. Some cruise lines offer shuttles for free to their cruise passengers, and others charge a fee that you can expect to be around €5.

Can You Walk into Livorno from Your Cruise Ship?

It isn’t possible to walk from the cruise terminal into Livorno city center.

Health and safety regulations don’t permit walking in the industrial port. Even if it was allowed, the distance between the cruise ship berths and the city is very great and it would take you over an hour to walk into Livorno which isn’t practical.

There are however shuttles available that will take you from Livorno Cruise Port straight into the city of Livorno dropping you at Piazza Grande, a key square in the middle of the city.

Are there Taxis Available from Livorno Cruise Port?

Yes, there is a taxi rank beside every cruise ship in Livorno Cruise Port which will have enough taxis in it to accommodate all passengers looking to get a taxi.

Best Shore Excursions from the Livorno Cruise Port

Livorno Cruise Port is one of the busiest cruise ports in Italy due to its fantastic central location near many of Italy’s most extraordinary attractions.

There’s a host of things to see and do nearby. I’ll delve into some of my favorites below.

1. Leaning Tower of Pisa

Only a 40-minute drive or 20-minute train ride from Livorno city center, the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa really is a must for anyone visiting Livorno! The 56-meter high 14th-century tower can be found in the heart of the city of Pisa.

The tower is located beside the impressive Cattedrale di Pisa (Cathedral), and Battistero di San Giovanni (Baptist Church), enabling you to marvel at a number of incredible landmarks on your visit.

Trains run between Livorno and Pisa a couple of times per hour making it a quick and convenient way to journey between the two cities. From Pisa station, it’s a 20-minute walk to the famous tower.

Another way to reach the Leaning Tower of Pisa is on a guided tour from Livorno.  This full-day tour  combines a visit to the tower with a trip to Florence, another incredible city in Italy.

2. Florence

Florence is the vibrant capital of the Tuscany region in Italy. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the city is famed for its stunning medieval architecture and monuments as well as museums.

It’s no surprise that a day trip to Florence is a must for many cruisers who arrive at Livorno Cruise Port.

Florence can be reached via train. Trains run from Livorno to Florence several times per day, roughly once per hour. The journey is direct (you don’t need to change trains) and takes 1 and a half hours each way.

Perhaps the easiest way to visit Florence is via an arranged shore excursion with a guide, such as  this one . The tour takes you directly from Livorno Cruise Port to Florence and allows you over 4 hours to see the highlights of the city.

3. Cinque Terre

Just north of Livorno is a beautiful stretch of coastline known as Cinque Terre, characterized by colorful settlements which are stacked upon cliffs in bays that arc around turquoise waters.

4. San Gimignano

Nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscany is this charming town, oozing with history and encircled by 13th-century walls. The UNESCO World Heritage Site town is famous for its incredible medieval architecture and striking 11 towers.

Not only is the town itself gorgeous to admire, but it’s surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards.

5. Fortezza Vecchia

One of the main attractions in Livorno itself is this 11th-century fort which is right in the middle of Livorno port. It’s a spectacular fortress that is well worth admiring either before or after your main shore excursion.

This fortress, also known as the Old Fort, is the symbol of Livorno. It’s open from Tuesdays to Sundays, 9am to 8pm and is free to visit . There is a cafe right next to the fort called Fortezza.

8. Livorno City

For your day docked at Livorno Cruise Port, you may simply wish to explore the surrounding city, which although not as well known as Pisa or Florence, houses its own unique gems.

One of the best ways to explore the city is via a food and market tour.  This walking tour takes you to Livrono’s central market, known as Mercato Centrale.

This is in fact one of the largest markets in Europe. At this lively market, you’ll be able to sample local dishes, snacks, and drinks.

If you are interested in seeing the key sights of the city then a   hop-on hop-off bus tour  of Livorno may be what you’re looking for.

Getting From Livorno Airport to the Cruise Port

The closest airport to the Livorno cruise terminal is Pisa Airport which is 20 km (12.4 miles) north of Livorno.

The easiest way to travel between Pisa Airport and Livorno Cruise Port is by taxi or  private transfer  which typically takes between 20 and 30 minutes.

🚘 Book a private transfer to the cruise port here

Taking the train is also an option, although it takes considerably longer and may be challenging if you have lots of luggage.

It’s roughly a 20-minute walk between Pisa Airport and Pisa Centrale, the train station. It’s then a 20-minute train journey to Livorno station, followed by a 30-minute walk to Piazza Grande, where the shuttle buses to the cruise port stop.

Places to Stay Near Livorno Cruise Port

If you are looking for a convenient place to stay near Livorno Cruise Port then Agave in Città , a highly rated apartment with fantastic views over the canal is a fantastic option.

Boasting exceptional online reviews, this accommodation is conveniently located very close to the cruise port, just 600 meters away. A concierge, bar, and indoor pool are stationed at the property.

A little further away from the cruise port is 900 B&B , a charming B&B in a beautifully restored building that serves a selection of fresh pastries for breakfast.

Hotel Universal is another great option, although it sits just outside the city. Perched right on the seafront, the views from this hotel are exceptional.

Best Time to Visit Livorno

The best time to visit Tuscany is between April and October when the weather is more favorable. The height of summer (June, July, and August) will provide the best weather. The summer months are also the busiest time to visit Livorno and key sights can be very crowded.

➡️ To strike the best balance between good weather and fewer crowds, I’d recommend visiting Tuscany outside of the holiday season. April, May, September, and October are all great months.

Cruise Lines that Visit Livorno Cruise Port

A large number of cruise liners stop at Livorno Cruise Port. These include:

  • MSC Cruises
  • Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Viking Ocean

Livorno city center is right beside the cruise port. However the sheer size of the cruise port and health and safety guidelines mean that you can’t walk into Livorno city from the cruise terminal. A shuttle bus between the two takes around 10 minutes.

How to get to Livorno train station from the cruise port

There are a number of ways that you can journey to Livorno train station from the cruise terminal.

The easiest way is via taxi. A taxi rank beside each cruise ship allows you to journey directly from your cruise ship to the train station, which will take around 15 minutes.

Alternatively, you can take the shuttle bus from the cruise port to Piazza Grande in the city center, and from there, it’s a 30-minute walk to Linorvo Train Station.

How far is Pisa from the cruise port?

Pisa is 23 km (14 miles) north of Livorno Cruise Port and can be reached via a 40 minute taxi ride or a 20 minute train ride from Linorvo Train Station.

How far is Florence from Livorno cruise port?

Florence is 93 km (57.8 miles) east of Livorno Cruise Port and can be reached by either a 1-and-a-half-hour train or taxi ride from Livorno.

Can you see Florence and Pisa on the same day?

Yes, it is possible to visit both Florence and Pisa on the same day.

I’d recommend journeying between the two cities via either taxi or as part of a tour. Taking public transport such as the train will certainly be more challenging.

There are a number of guided tours available which will take you to both cities, such as  this one .

Final Thoughts on the Livorno Cruise Port

Livorno Cruise Port is a great destination to stop at on your cruise as it allows you the opportunity to visit some of the most iconic cities in Italy, such as Pisa and Florence.

The shuttle bus service offered by the port means it’s very easy to journey into the city and the number of shore excursions on offer here means that there really is no shortage of things to do.
