As we return to our 5-star Deluxe Nile cruise ship, we will continue our voyage toward the charming town of Kom Ombo . As we continue to sail south, our guests can enjoy the stunning views of the Nile and indulge in the various amenities and activities offered on board.

Day 8 Aswan (Unfinished Obelisk, Temple of Philae & Nubian Village)

After breakfast, we will visit the legendary Unfinished Obelisk . The sheer magnitude of this largest known ancient Obelisk, located in the ancient stone quarry, you will leave breathless. It's almost one-third larger than any ancient Egyptian obelisk ever erected and, had it been completed, would have measured approximately 140 feet and weighed nearly 1200 tons.

Next, we'll embark on a scenic motorboat ride to the magnificent Temple of Philae , located on a pristine island and dedicated to Isis, the goddess of health, marriage, and wisdom. Philae has long been considered one of the sacred burial sites of the god Osiris, and the temple is adorned with monuments that span several eras, from the Pharaohs to the Caesars.

After a satisfying lunch on board the ship, we'll drift peacefully along the Nile by motorboat to the Nubian village . The calm waters and breathtaking views of the Egyptian countryside will provide the perfect ambiance for you to relax and unwind. As we approach the village, we'll navigate through narrow passages in small boats and revel in the serenity of the Nile. Upon arrival, we'll have the pleasure of visiting the local Nubians and experiencing their way of life firsthand. From their customs to their homes, you'll feel as if you've traveled back in time to ancient Egypt.

Day 9 Abu Simbel

The second day in Aswan will start with a journey to the majestic Abu Simbel Temple . The temple is one of the most imposing, impressive, and iconic symbols of Ancient Egypt, alongside the Great Pyramid and the Great Sphinx. Abu Simbel temple, a must-see ancient monument that has stood the test of time, was masterfully hewn from a mountainside in the 13th century BC during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II. This incredible work of architecture stands as a testament to the grandeur and power of the pharaoh and his beloved queen Nefertari, immortalizing their legacy for generations to come.

Day 10 Back to Luxor - Luxor temple

In the morning, our cruise ship will leave Aswan and head back to Luxor . You will have a relaxing day to spend on the beautiful sundeck while sailing. You will admire and enjoy the views on the Nile: flourishing green areas, desert in the distance, farmers at work, and picturesque villages. Our guide will be available on the sundeck to answer all the additional questions you may have.

Next, we will visit the Luxor temple in the evening. Luxor temple is one of the most beautiful Ancient Egyptian temples located on the east bank of the Nile. The city is known today as Luxor (ancient Thebes) and was founded in 1400 BC. For centuries, Thebes was the capital of Ancient Egypt.

Day 11 Temple of Hatshepsut - Colossi of Memnon - Deir El Madina

Another very exciting day in Luxor will start with a visit to the temple of Queen Hatchepsut and Deir el-Medina with the tombs of the workers who built the Valley of the Kings.

Temple of Queen Hatchepsut, Deir el-Bahari:

The Temple of Deir el-Bahari is one of the most characteristic temples in Egypt. It was built of limestone not sandstone like most of the other funerary temples of the New Kingdom. Hatshepsut was the first queen to rule over Egypt in ancient Egyptian history (ca. 1473 to 1458 BC). Although many people, including royal family members, objected to the idea of having a lady ruling over Egypt she, through her many achievements, proved them wrong. Hatchepsut became one of the most important and successful rulers of Egypt.

The Colossi of Memnon:

The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. They have sat in the Theban necropolis across the river Nile for 3400 years. The original function of the Colossi was to stand guard at the entrance to Amenhotep's memorial temple – a massive cult center built during the pharaoh's lifetime, where he used to be worshiped as a god on earth.

Deir el-Medina:

It is a worker's village (now an archaeological site), home to the artisans and craftsmen of Thebes who built and decorated the royal tombs in the nearby Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens. Deir el-Medina is one of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt because it provides a wealth of information on the everyday life of people who used to live there.

Day 12 Fly Back to Cairo

We will fly back to Cairo. After lunch and free time at leisure.

Overnight in Cairo: Luxury Hotel | Meals: Breakfast & Lunch.

Day 13 Cairo Tour

After breakfast, we will start sightseeing in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. We will visit the Egyptian Museum in Cairo - one of the most important museums in the world. It contains the world's largest collection of pharaonic antiquities. We will see the famous Tutankhamun exhibition with the golden mask of the boy king. During a visit to the Egyptian Museum, Your Egypt Tours will provide you with a camera permit that will allow you to take your photos inside the museum!

After lunch, we will drive to the Saladin Citadel and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali . The Saladin Citadel, which dates back to the twelfth century, is an Islamic fortress built to unite the city and protect it from Christian crusaders. The Mosque of Muhammad Ali was built on the summit of the citadel in the first half of the nineteenth century.

In the evening, during our farewell dinner, we will celebrate the two weeks of our exciting adventure.

Overnight in Cairo: Luxury Hotel | Meals: Breakfast & Dinner.

Day 14 Bid Farewell

It is the last day of our tour and time to say goodbye to Egypt. After breakfast, we will transfer you to the Cairo International Airport. What travelers say about our Egypt tours

Travel tips for egypt trips.

When it comes to picking the perfect time for your Egypt vacations and other Africa tours , the weather is one of the most important things to think about. Egypt experiences mild to very hot temperatures year-round, especially when you are farther inland. The most pleasant weather can be experienced from October through April, which is also when the country gets the most visitors. Egypt's peak tourist season starts in December and continues through January, so prepare to contend with some crowds at famous sites like the Pyramids of Giza and Temples of Luxor.

Temperatures soar well into the nineties from May through September. If hot weather is right up your alley and summertime trips to Egypt call you, you'll be rewarded with fewer crowds at the country's most famous sites. Just keep in mind that Ramadan also occurs during the summer months, and shops and attractions tend to close a bit early during this time.

Egypt calls to mind pyramids, pharaohs, sphinxes, and tombs, and you'll have plenty of opportunities to experience these iconic sites during Egypt tours with us. When you choose our Egypt guided tour packages, you'll travel to the country's can't-miss destinations securely while enjoying in-depth guidance from an expert Egyptologist, who'll be with you every step of the way.

Main cities are the places to discover how ancient history mingles with modern life on Egypt tour packages. Here a few sites to marvel at on our ** Egypt & the Nile **tour:

The Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx in Giza, which are two of the top destinations in Egypt

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Catacombs of Kom el-Shoqafa in Alexandria, Egypt’s second-largest city

The Aswan High Dam in Aswan

The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities and a beautiful array of Islamic architecture in Cairo

Of course, one of the best ways to see all that Egypt has to offer is from the storied Nile, which passes some of the country's most famous sites. Hop aboard a Nile River cruise on our Egypt vacations to see:

The Temples of Karnak and Luxor

The West Bank

The Valley of the Kings

Edfu’s Temple of Horus

The Temple of Kom Ombo

Thanks to the rich soil of the Nile River Valley and the Delta, Egypt's cuisine is supplemented by bountiful harvests of vegetables, fruits, and legumes. Popular ingredients you'll taste on Egypt group tours include fava beans, lentils, chickpeas, eggplant, zucchini, onions, tomatoes, cabbage, and citrus fruits. Spices like cumin, coriander, and cardamom are typical in many Egyptian dishes, as is a clarified butter called ghee.

Lunch is the biggest meal of the day. While meals usually center around vegetables and stews, some meat dishes are also popular. Here are some of the bites to seek out on trips to Egypt:

  • Lamb kebabs
  • Skewered, spiced meat patties called kofta
  • Eish baladi , Egyptian bread that's similar to pita bread and is commonly used to scoop up food
  • A hearty dish called kushari , which is a mixture of pasta, rice, chickpeas, lentils, tomato sauce, and fried onions
  • Baba ghanoush
  • Stuffed grape leaves
  • Fish from the Red Sea
  • Tea, the national drink, which is offered at breakfast, after lunch, and in most social situations

Keep in mind that you should only drink bottled water on Egypt guided tours. It's best not to drink tap water, including when brushing your teeth, and you should avoid eating fresh fruits and vegetables unless they are cooked or washed in clean water and peeled.

Group travel to Egypt is always amazing, but having the right stuff in your suitcase makes every trip better! The country experiences high temperatures and many iconic sites are in desert locations, so a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and light layers will help protect you from the sun. If you're traveling between October and April, bring a warmer layer for when the temperatures dip in the evenings.

Even when it's hot out, it's best to be respectful of the more conservative customs in the country by covering shoulders and knees. Don't fret—you can still stay relatively cool by taking a page from the ancient Egyptians and wearing light, breathable fabrics like linen! And, get ready to explore all Egypt has to offer by packing a sturdy pair of walking shoes.

Toss a small bottle of hand sanitizer and tissues in your day bag, just in case; you'll be happy you have them if you come upon a public restroom where other facilities aren't available. Pack a small first-aid kit in your carry-on, and be sure to ask your healthcare provider about any over-the-counter medications you plan to bring with you as some may not be permitted in Egypt.

The Royal Family Is Opening Balmoral Castle to the Public For the First Time in History

The special interior tours of the royal family’s Scottish retreat sold out in less than a day

Sarah Kuta

Daily Correspondent

Historic image of royal family at Balmoral Castle

When  Queen Victoria visited Scotland for the first time in the fall of 1842, she fell in love with the  Highlands , the rugged region in the country’s northwest corner. Six years later, her husband, Prince Albert , leased an estate with an old castle in the Highlands for his wife. In 1852, they purchased the land in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and got to work building a bigger castle.

The new Balmoral Castle was completed in 1855. Since then, it’s been handed down through generations of the royal family. But members of the public haven’t been allowed inside most of its interior—until now.

For the first time,  Charles III is opening up the private retreat to visitors. This summer, the castle will offer special guided tours “through several of the beautiful rooms within Balmoral Castle,” per the  castle’s website .

Tickets for the new tours sold out within a day of being released, reports  BBC News . However, those lucky enough to have snagged a spot—starting at £100, or roughly $125—are in for a rare treat.

“You will learn about the origins of the castle and how it has been loved by generations of the royal family,” according to the castle’s website. “Travel through time from the purchase of the Balmoral by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, through to present day, where you can see how rooms within the castle are used today by their Majesties the King and Queen and other members of the royal family.”

For everyone else, the castle’s grounds, gardens and exhibitions will be open from May 4 through August 11. You can even have afternoon tea in the castle’s restaurant or rent one of the five cottages located on the estate’s grounds.

For the royal family, Balmoral Castle has long served as a retreat from the hustle and bustle—and the limelight—of London.  Elizabeth II , in particular, loved spending time on the property with her beloved pups. There, she had “the privacy to stroll with her corgis around the gardens, catch up on correspondence … go fly fishing on the river Dee or take in a round of golf on her private course,” as Jill O'Brien wrote for  CNN in 2013.

The estate has also been the site of many significant moments for the royal family. It’s where Prince William and Prince Harry learned of the  death of their mother , Diana, Princess of Wales. Elizabeth II  died at the castle in September 2022.

The property spans  50,000 acres and has 150 buildings, including the  167-room castle .

Meanwhile, back in London,  Buckingham Palace’s East Wing will also open to the public this summer after undergoing a five-year renovation. For the first time, guests will be able to explore the room that leads out to the palace’s main balcony, reports  Vanity Fair ’s Kase Wickman. The balcony is where members of the family gather during certain special events and where  newly married royals have waved to their adoring fans below.

Guided tours of the East Wing will take place in July and August, per BBC News . Visitors will be able to strolling along the Principal Corridor, the main hallway that runs through the wing, and gaze at various artworks, including pieces painted by 18th-century artist  Thomas Gainsborough .

“Visitors will discover the history of the Wing, first occupied by Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their children and still used by the royal family today for official meetings and events,” according to a  statement from the Royal Collection Trust, the charity that manages the royal residences.

How King Charles Is Breaking With Royal Tradition in a Major Way

The Royal Family Attend The 2024 Easter Mattins Service

K ing Charles III has piqued the interest of royal fans by offering tours of private rooms at Balmoral Castle for the first time since its completion.

The lucrative tours , taking place between July 1 and Aug. 4, set buyers back £100 ($126.34) or £150 ($189.51) for a package including afternoon tea. Highlighting the demand, tickets sold out in a single day . Sets of 40 tickets per day were first advertised on Wednesday, and by Thursday they had all gone.

Balmoral Castle , located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is an intimate site for members of the royal family; it’s the monarch’s summer home, it’s where Prince William and Prince Harry learned of their mother’s fatal car crash in 1997, and it’s the beloved residence where Queen Elizabeth II died in 2022, after 70 years on the throne.

Before now, tours had only offered a glimpse of the ballroom, as well as the castle grounds and gardens. But with King Charles’ permission, history buffs can expect an interior tour that spans the Victorian era to the present day. Groups of 10 people per tour will “learn about the origins of the Castle and how it has been loved by generations of the Royal family,” according to Balmoral’s ticketing page.

The tour will still include a visit to the ballroom, where the King’s watercolor collection is on display, which depicts scenery at Balmoral, Highgrove, and Sandringham. Visitors can also explore outfits worn by the King and Queen Camilla, Queen Elizabeth II, and the Queen Mother.

Photograph of Queen Elizabeth II with the Duke of Edinburgh and their children.

Balmoral is the private property of the monarch, and it is not attached to the Crown estate. The tours are scheduled to end just before the King and Queen arrive for their 2024 summer break at the residence.

The Highlands home has been a royal haven since 1852, when it was officially purchased by Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband, for £32,000, which equates to £3.7 million today ($4.7 million), according to the Bank of England calculator . The royal couple decided to expand the castle, believing it to be too small for their family. The works were completed sometime between 1855 and 1856, and the old building was then demolished.

As it currently stands, the estate covers 50,000 acres and consists of 150 buildings, including the King’s house at Birkhall, Craigowan Lodge. The granite castle itself reportedly has 167 rooms, with 52 bedrooms, according to the Guardian , which estimated in 2023 that the estate could be worth £80 million ($101 million).

The tour comes as Buckingham Palace also prepares to welcome visitors to its East Wing for the first time . Special guided tours will take place throughout July and August, following five years of improvement renovations.

Like Balmoral, the East Wing carried significance for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, as it was first occupied by their family after its creation between 1847 and 1849. It is now used for official meetings and events, and includes the palace’s facade and balcony, where monarchs have appeared alongside their family for historic appearances since 1851.
