Free tour of Jaffa

My friend and I went on the free tour of Jaffa. The tour was amazing, a really good mix of facts, history and interesting stories. Eric Levy was superb. He is very knowledgable and spoke loudly and clearly. I would highly recommend this tour.

I participated to two different tours on two consecutive days: One in jerusalem, second being the Old Jaffa Tour. I was surprised about the number of poeple taking the tour, in Jerusalem the tour was around 60 people so we were divided in 3 groups of 20, our guide being Shir. Shir's approach was so positive and she had an amazing vibe. Being always interactive and trying to answer all questions, she was obviously doing her best despite the tour being free of charge. At 34 Celsius in Jerusealem, she held on really good. ı Should thank her for the excellent service. Now the second tour in Jaffa was managed by Eric, an enthusiastic gentleman from US with a strong voice and good communication skills. Being all alone he could manage to reach every single person of the group consisted of around 40 people. He did a very good job, he obviously loves what he does and you can tell it from a distance by his tone. He was very capable and provided very good info. I must say that anybody giving these free walking tours less than 4 stars is either doing it on purpose or is itself a tour guide and believes he/she can explain it better than they do. This service is simply flawless and full of information.

We really enjoyed our Sandemans Free Tour with Eric. He spoke very clearly and audibly and he gave us plenty of info without overloading us so we could absorb it. He took us along lovely narrow streets and to the port. Atmospheric , though a lot of steps up to Jaffas top in the heat but worth it for the view on arrival.

I left the tour after an hour. Group was too big and the information given by the guide didnt give me anything. Walking around yafo on my own was much better. So many little narrow streets and galleries to disvover :)

With a constant smile on her face, sweet Shir led us through all the winding alleys of Jaffa and its sea views, was always very pleasant and had all the great details and stories to go along. Thank you very much!

It was an really interesting experience. Although it was a free tour I learnt a lot about Israeli history and particulary biblical references. I think it's worth it and it only takes 2 hours. If you're in Tel Aviv you should really consider taking this tour and if you liked it consider giving a tip.

Airport Transfer

Catching the train into Tel Aviv’s city center is easy and will take you about 20 minutes. Hop on the Israel Railways train from the Ben Gurion Airport to Tel Aviv from Sunday-Friday. Other options include taxis, buses, and Abraham Tours offers a shuttle from the airport to the city.

Public Transportation

Tel Aviv has a modern, regular, cheap and widespread bus network. You can pay the driver as you board the bus, but if you think you will be using public transport for most of your stay, consider getting a public transit card called Rav-Kav.

The currency in Israel is NIS (New Israeli Shekels). There are money changers and ATMs both at the airport and scattered across the city.

Tel Aviv is generally a safe city, but do be alert for pickpockets in particularly crowded areas.  

Tipping between 10-15% is the general practice in restaurants. Waiters will prefer this in cash so make sure you have some small change with you!
