'Star Trek: Prodigy' Could Go on For Seven Seasons, Say Writers
"There’s threads of what's next. If we're lucky enough to go to Season 3."
The Big Picture
- Star Trek: Prodigy was saved by Netflix and will premiere on the streaming platform on December 25, with Season 2 set to release in 2024.
- The show follows a group of aliens who escape imprisonment and steal a Starfleet vessel, aided by a hologram of Captain Kathryn Janeway.
- The writers are hopeful about the show's future and have crafted the story to potentially continue for at least seven seasons.
Following the emotional rollercoaster of its cancellation this summer, Star Trek: Prodigy is about to beam up to its new home on Netflix just in time for Christmas . On top of rescuing the series from oblivion after Paramount+ removed it entirely, Netflix is also set to debut all-new episodes from Season 2 sometime early in 2024. The series follows a rag-tag group of aliens who steal a unique Starfleet vessel while escaping wrongful imprisonment in the Delta quadrant. Along the way they meet a hologram of Captain Kathryn Janeway ( Kate Mulgrew ) who teaches them what it means to be a part of Starfleet.
Ahead of the show's highly anticipated return Collider's Maggie Lovitt sat down with writers and executive producers Kevin and Dan Hageman to chat about what exciting things we can expect from Season 2, their reaction to the way fans rallied around the series, and whether we might be seeing more of the young Protostar crew beyond the upcoming episodes. While Season 2 does not yet have an exact release date , the Hagemans revealed that they're currently wrapping up episode 18 of the 20-episode season. Naturally, Lovitt asked if the duo plans to wrap the story here or if they'll return for more and both brothers were hopeful about the future of the series.
Dan Hageman explained that "at the end of episode 40 there's a nice wrap-up," noting that they "never want to leave people hanging." But Kevin Hageman goes on to promise that there's definitely threads they can pick up for future seasons if Netflix decides to continue the series, saying "Like Season 1. I think Season 1 felt like a nice wrap-up, but, 'Oh my gosh, Gwyn is going back…' There's exciting teases." Dan went on to say that, like the Star Trek shows of the 90s, Prodigy is written so that it could go on for at least seven seasons. He said:
"There’s threads of what's next. If we're lucky enough to go to Season 3, I'm really excited about where the show can go. We wrote this thing to go seven seasons at least."
Kevin Hageman Wants 'Prodigy' to Follow in the Footsteps of 'Star Trek: The Original Series'
With a swell of fan support rescuing the series from its ill fate as a tax write-off for Paramount, Prodigy has already taken some pages out of The Original Series ' handbook . And Kevin hopes those parallels continue as the show moves forward, seeing a bright future for the once-abandoned series.
"I hope people will look back at our show and be like, 'Oh my god, they followed the footsteps of The Original Series . It got canceled, they got brought back to life. Oh, here comes Star Trek the motion picture.' Why not? "
Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1 will be available to stream on Netflix on December 25 , with Season 2 set to follow sometime in 2024. If you want to watch seven season of the series, be sure to stream it when it drops on Netflix! Stay tuned at Collider for further updates and don't miss Lovitt's full conversation with Kevin and Dan Hageman.

Star Trek: Prodigy
- View history
Star Trek: Prodigy is an animated series that premiered on 28 October 2021 , first on the streaming service Paramount+ , then on Nickelodeon , [1] a conglomerate sister broadcasting channel. It is the ninth Star Trek spin-off and the third animated Star Trek series, following Star Trek: The Animated Series and Star Trek: Lower Decks . Unlike the previous animated series, this is the first to be rendered entirely with computer-generated imaging and 3D modeling. Previously, the Star Trek: Short Treks episode " The Girl Who Made the Stars " was produced in a similar fashion. Two seasons were produced before the series' cancellation on 23 June 2023 .
Alex Kurtzman stated that unlike Lower Decks , Prodigy will be kid-focused with an " entirely different perspective and an entirely different tone, " adding, " What's exciting about it is not only looking at each animated series as what's the different tone, but what's the different technology we can apply to these things so that visually they're entirely different? " [6]
In February 2019, it was announced Nickelodeon had entered talks to air the show, and Trollhunters writers and executive producers Kevin and Dan Hageman had boarded the project. [7]
On 24 April 2019 , it was revealed that the series would indeed air (but not debut) on Nickelodeon and focus on a group of lawless teenage characters finding a derelict Starfleet ship which they use to " search for adventure, meaning and salvation. " [8]
In May 2019, CBS filed trademarks for the titles " Star Trek: Section 31 " and " Star Trek: Prodigy ", with posts on Reddit later in the year attaching the Prodigy title to the second animated series. [9]
On 23 July 2020, it was revealed that the show would, in fact, be named Star Trek: Prodigy , and that it would air on Nickelodeon in 2021. [10] [11] The premiere episode did air on the channel on 17 December 2021, but on that occasion it was an one-time-only affair. [12] It was eventually announced that the first ten episodes (parts 1 and 2) would belatedly air regularly on a repetitive basis on the broadcaster in the home market one year later, starting on 8 July 2022 . [13]
In 2022 , Prodigy 's first season was nominated for "Outstanding Animated Series" in the inaugural Children’s & Family Emmy Awards , and won the Emmy for "Outstanding Individual Achievement in Production Design." [14]
In 2023 , Prodigy 's first season was nominated for a Television Critics Association Award in "Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming," a category with both animated and live action content intended for family and young adult audiences. [15]

Development
In July 2019 , the Hagemans announced the full writers' room for the show. [20] Among those revealed to be writing the series are Trollhunters writer-producers Aaron Waltke and Chad Quandt , The 100 writer-producers Shawna Benson and Julie Benson , Black Sails writer Lisa Boyd , Shades of Blue writer Nikhil Jayaram , and Diandra Pendleton-Thompson .
In October 2019 , Kurtzman said that this series will be animated in a digital 3D style, like Ninjago or Trollhunters , as opposed to the more "cartoon" look of Star Trek: Lower Decks . He also confirmed that the series had been picked up for a two-season order, and that a title had been chosen for the series, but he was not yet ready to reveal it. [21]
In the same interview, Heather Kadin said that, due to the time-consuming process of 3D animation, the series would likely air later than 2021 . Kadin also emphasized that the Hagemans' writing style will be accessible to kids without patronizing them or alienating their parents:
" The reason we went to the Hagemans is because if you've seen their work, you know that they're not writing " Muppet Babies ". It's not "Little Spock and Little Kirk." It's not playing down [to viewers] that way. " " Even [with] their characters in Ninjago – they are teenagers – I was able to watch that with my kids and they write with a very epic quality. They tell stories the way we tell stories in live action: serialized, turning over cards… " " I think it will be a great way for fans to introduce the franchise to their kids, and for new fans to be formed, because it's such a big franchise, [it can be hard] to get into as a kid. " [22]
In an October 2020 interview with Trek Report , producer and writer Aaron Waltke said that Prodigy aims to bridge the gap between old and new iterations of the Star Trek franchise , with a series that strikes a tone of hope and idealism. [23]
" It's been exhilarating to make a series that honors classic Trek for legacy fans like myself, but also provides an entry point for new audiences to be introduced to the world of the Federation and its aspirations for an idealistic future, even when facing adversity. Writing the return of our beloved Voyager captain feels oddly iconic, like a homecoming for me. And we hope to create something both young and old can watch together… just as I once did with my dad all those many years ago. " [24]
In February 2021 , it was announced that Prodigy would debut on Paramount+ in 2021. An image of the alien bridge crew was also released. [25]
On First Contact Day in April 2021 , the Hagemans revealed that the series will be set in the Delta Quadrant in 2383 . They also revealed an image of Captain Janeway as she will appear in the series, and explained that the character will appear as an emergency training hologram on board the starship. A new summary of the series' premise was also released:
Prodigy " will follow a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search for a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered – a first in the history of the Star Trek Franchise – but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents. " [26]
In May 2021 , more details about the cast were released, with the main voice cast revealed. [27]
On 23 July 2021 , a teaser trailer was released during the Paramount+ Star Trek Comic-Con@Home panel, revealing the first animated footage of the series along with the first look and name of the vessel, the USS Protostar . [28]
The series' opening title sequence was publicly released on 31 August 2021 , as part of a Paramount+ presentation to the Television Critics Association . This presentation also confirmed that the series' theme music had been composed by Michael Giacchino , and the music for the series would be composed by Nami Melumad . [29]
In June 2019 , Eaglemoss/Hero Collector 's project manager Ben Robinson indicated that the company would manufacture starship miniatures from this series, [30] though that intent was thwarted by the company's bankruptcy on 5 August 2022.
On 13 July 2021 , ViacomCBS Consumer Products and Playmates Toys jointly announced that the latter had acquired new licensing for "action figures, vehicles and ships, role play and other toy categories," and slated the first of these products for retail release in 2022. Among other Star Trek series and films, this licensing encompasses Star Trek: Prodigy , Star Trek: Lower Decks , Star Trek: Discovery , and Star Trek: Picard . [31]
On 18 August 2022 , it was announced that two new tie-in books, Supernova (also the title of a video game releasing in October 2022 ) and A Dangerous Trade would be released on 17 January 2023 . [32]
Cancellation and pick-up
On 23 June 2023, Prodigy was cancelled by Paramount+. While Season 2 was allowed to finish post-production, it, along with the series as a whole, would be sold to any interested third-party outsider. [33] The series removal from Paramount+ was effectuated three days later, on 26 June 2023. [34] The series was on Nickelodeon already on a broadcast hiatus, and therefore not to return afterwards. [2]
Paramount did not provide a clear reason for the completely unexpected cancellation. News sites such as TrekMovie.com , ScreenRant, and Inverse suggested that the cancellation was motivated by cost-cutting measures and tax write-offs, whereas Paramount itself had intimated in a statement to TrekMovie.com that it was part of clearing the way of the upcoming merger of Paramount+ with Showtime by " refining our content offering to deliver the best streaming experience for subscribers ". Paramount concurrently assured TrekMovie.com that it remained stoutly "invested in growing the Star Trek franchise". The decision to place Prodigy outside the realm of that same franchise and offer it up to third-party outsiders however, was counter to their " Star Trek Universe" all-under-one-roof franchise umbrella concept instituted at the start of 2021 . [35] [36] [37]
On 21 July 2023 , showrunner Aaron Waltke announced on his Twitter account that the entire first season had become available for digital purchase at digital vendors like Prime Video , ITunes Store , Google, and others. Up until that point only the first ten episodes had been available, which was conforming to the recent physical PRO Season 1, Volume 1 DVD and Blu-ray home video format releases. [38] While the franchise had intimated that the series had not performed to expectations, Prodigy had managed in the meantime to gather a fanbase of its own, which had resulted in a run on the DVD and Blu-ray stocks still available at retailers at the time of the cancellation announcement, causing them to sell out quickly in the home market. [39]
Aside from that, this fanbase also tried to organize an online campaign to save the series. [40] On 24 August 2023 , in an effort to find the show another home, a fan raised US$1,200 on GoFundMe to have an airplane tow a banner reading, "#SAVE STAR TREK PRODIGY" over the Los Angeles offices of streaming services Netflix , Amazon Prime , and Hulu . [41] A drawing with the same hashtag is set to be among the items going to space on a Blue Origin (part of the empire of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ) flight. [42]
Kevin Hageman expressed in an interview that his desire was to see a third season come to fruition, that will eventually lead up to an animated film series. [43]
On 11 October 2023 , it was Netflix that announced that they had picked up Prodigy , with season two set to premier in 2024 , [44] [45] after season one had debuted on the streaming service later in 2023 on 25 December. [46] [47] A consequence of this is that if Hageman is to see his hopes for post-season two productions come true, he has to convince Netflix to pay for the entirety of the production costs, as the franchise itself has distanced itself from Prodigy . [3] This could turn out to be a tall order for Hageman, considering Netflix's prior experience with the first three seasons of Discovery (see: Netflix: Footnote ), despite Prodigy hardly having caused any division within " Trekdom ", if any at all, as opposed to Discovery .

- ↑ The show did however premiere on some foreign Nickelodeon subsidiaries where Paramount+ was not (yet) available. One such market concerned the Netherlands and Flanders, where the in the Dutch language dubbed version of the show debuted for an one-time run on the local Nickelodeon Benelux channel on 18 April 2022 , albeit the first ten episodes (parts 1 and 2) only. [1] Repetitive regular airing of the entire first season started on 31 October 2022 in support of the local Paramount+ encompassing SkyShowtime which had been launched in the country six days earlier, and where Prodigy was included in its startup content catalog.

- ↑ There was very little doubt left, if any at all, that the franchise had no intent whatsoever to pay even a single penny more for Prodigy beyond the season two post-production completion, after they had taken their definitive leave of the series in their official statement, "Star Trek: Prodigy will not be returning for the previously announced second season. On behalf of everyone at Paramount+, Nickelodeon, and CBS Studios, we want to thank Kevin and Dan Hageman, Ben Hibon , Alex Kurtzman, and the Secret Hideout team, along with the fantastic cast and crew for all their hard work and dedication bringing the series to life. Star Trek: Prodigy Creators Have Season 3 Ideas Despite No Word on Renewal
Star Trek: Prodigy creators Dan and Kevin Hageman, a.k.a. The Hageman Brothers, recently opened up about what the future of the animated series looks like post-Season 2.
Speaking on Virtual Trek Con's Star Trek and Chill podcast, the brothers revealed that the upcoming Season 2 will conclude the story arc that began in the first season. "The end of season 1 we think is great. End of season 2 is equally great," Dan Hageman said, with Kevin Hageman adding that the new season "not just wraps up season 2, but season 2 is like the second half of season 1." Dan Hageman continued, "It really wraps everything you want out of Seasons 1 and 2, but really opens the door to what Season 3 potentially could be. And whether that hits now, or in five years, or whenever the time is right, it'll feel natural, which I'm really happy about."
Section 31: Michelle Yeoh's Star Trek Movie Sets Filming Start Date
Star Trek: Prodigy premiered on Paramount+ in October 2021 to positive reviews from critics. The 3D animated series follows a group of young aliens in the 24th century who find the abandoned starship Protostar. Although Paramount+ had initially renewed Prodigy for a second season, the series was canceled and removed from the streamer in June 2023 before Season 2 could be released. Luckily for fans, Netflix picked up Prodigy a few months later with plans to release Season 2 in 2024.
At this time, Netflix has not announced whether it intends to renew Star Trek: Prodigy for a third season. If the animated series does get a renewal, Dan Hageman revealed that, "because we're animation, it's going to take, minimum, two years" before the new season would get release. "[But] more likely three," he added.
Prodigy Season 2 Leaves the Door Open for More Stories
"Worst case scenario, we never get picked up again, there's no more Star Trek: Prodigy ever, we feel like the end of Season 2 is a really beautiful closing. It'll feel complete. But there's still… what we do is there's a great little promise of something," Kevin Hageman said. Dan Hageman added, "And we're never wrapping up a series. We're always having an open door for the next season, and I'm really excited at where it can go. That will be up to the fans and up to the audience."
Star Trek: Discovery Unveils Episode Titles For Season 5
Star trek: prodigy could take a page from the original series.
The Hageman Brothers hope that if Prodigy doesn't return, they can revisit the story and characters down the road, similar to the path Star Trek: The Original Series took back in the 1970s. "If the audience is there, my hope is we're following the footsteps of The Original Series ," Kevin Hagemen explained. "We were canceled, where we came back, and then there will be movies and future seasons. That will be amazing."

Recap: Star Trek: Prodigy - A Moral Star, Part 2
The first part of the crew's adventure comes to a stunning conclusion
StarTrek.com
The second half of Star Trek: Prodigy ’s suspenseful midseason finale begins right where “A Moral Star, Part 1” left off — Hologram Janeway confirms that the protocore isn’t aboard the ship and the Diviner infers it must be back on Tars Lamora. He incapacitates Gwyn, orders Hologram Janeway to ensure his progeny doesn’t interfere with his mission, and sets a course back for the colony.
Back on Tars Lamora, Dal and the others split up to gather all the miners and instruct them to board the Rev-12 . The prisoners are absolutely overjoyed to have access to Starfleet’s translators, allowing them to speak with and understand one another for the first time in years (and have a little romance along the way!).
Jankom and Rok manage to get into the engine room of the Rev-12 , which the Diviner damaged in the last episode. It’s up to them to fix the ship so the entire group can flee Tars Lamora. At first, Rok holds the door against robot security guards while Jankom Pog tries to fix the engine, but it’s Rok who manages to actually figure out how to get the ship up and running again.
But Dal and Zero are running out of time. They need to get word to all the prisoners to get on board the ship before the atmospheric shield comes down — no easy task, considering they only have short range communicators. But Dal realizes they can use the miners’ ankle manacles to accomplish their goal by integrating them with his Starfleet combadge and turning them into universal translators.
And then their time is up — the U.S.S. Protostar is back, and Drednok beams down to get the core from Rok, who’s been using it to jumpstart the Rev-12’s power. At the last second, the prisoners burst into engineering and overtake Drednok, fighting back against their oppressors and saving the day.
Unfortunately, it seems that before his demise, Drednok managed to send the coordinates of the core back to the Diviner, who stole it from the Rev-12 . With the core, there’s nothing to stop the Protostar from jumping away, far out of the reach of Dal and his team. They have to catch the ship before it’s too late.
Back on the U.S.S. Protostar , the Diviner walks in to find Gwyn trying to disable the shields. All of a sudden he realizes that Hologram Janeway is not, in fact, on his side. She’s loyal to her previous crew, and Gwyn reveals that she installed safeguards around Janeway’s programming to ensure the Diviner couldn’t override her again. Hologram Janeway puts the Diviner out of commission, and it seems like the battle is over.
That is, until the Diviner reveals the truth behind his mission to Gwyn and makes her hesitate in lowering the ship’s shields. We’ve known for a long time that the reason he was seeking the U.S.S. Protostar was to save his people. It turns out that they’re not actually all gone — at least not yet. Fifty years in the future, first contact with Starfleet will result in a civil war on the Diviner’s home planet, between those who want to follow the Federation and those who don’t. It will end up destroying the planet.
We also get the answer to how the Diviner knew that the U.S.S. Protostar was on Tars Lamora — he’s from the future. He was sent back in time to find the ship and stop Starfleet from ever making first contact with his people. He intends to do that by using a weapon aboard the Protostar to destroy all of Starfleet.
Meanwhile, aboard the Rev-12 , the crew has to decide what to do because the Protostar ’s shields still aren’t down. Zero suggests targeting the shield emitters only and firing, which will allow one person to beam aboard at a time. Dal hurries to beam aboard, just as the Diviner is explaining to Gwyn that this weapon will be able to turn Starfleet ships against one another. All of them will be destroyed, wiping out Starfleet.
Even though Gwyn was willing to hear her father’s plan out, it doesn’t mean she agrees with it. She doesn’t accept that the answer to preventing one tragedy is creating another. She advocates for communication and negotiation with Starfleet — it’s not explicitly stated, but perhaps if they know the outcome of their first contact, they may be inclined to avoid it altogether.
Just then, Dal arrives and he and Gwyn team up to try and stop the Diviner. But it’s Zero who ends up managing to defeat him — they show the Diviner their true form, which is enough to drive a person mad. Unfortunately, Gwyn manages to catch the reflection of Zero’s true form in Dal’s combadge and is incapacitated.
The good news is that Gwyn is going to be okay. While she’s recovering, the Protostar ’s crew help teach the prisoners how to fly and operate the Rev-12 , freeing them to go their own way into the stars. The Diviner is returned to Tars Lamora to live out his days as a prisoner on the asteroid where he enslaved so many.
The bad news is that Gwyn lost all of her memories of the incident with Zero — which means she can’t warn the crew that they’re harboring a weapon that could destroy Starfleet. With no reason not to press forward and find the Federation, Dal orders the ship to set a course for Starfleet. It’s time for the Protostar to go home.
Set a Course with Kate Mulgrew - Teamwork
And who’s waiting on the other side but Admiral Janeway herself (not a hologram!). She’s on a ship that’s been tracking the protowarp signatures and is searching for Captain Chakotay and its missing crew. It’s clear that the back half of season one of Star Trek: Prodigy , airing later this year, is going to be just as exciting as these first 10 episodes!

How Star Trek: Prodigy Connects to Picard's Season 3 Villain
Prodigy's holodeck episode is a nod to a classic episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and a subtle reminder of a Picard villain yet to come.
The following contains spoilers for Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1, Episode 17, "Ghost in the Machine," now streaming on Paramount+.
Star Trek: Prodigy has a nifty way of reinventing past Star Trek dilemmas, whether it's the Kobayashi Maru or a crashed shuttle with a singular name. Season 1, Episode 17, " Ghost in the Machine " continues that tradition, with a new wrinkle in the favorite franchise dilemma: the malfunctioning holodeck. More specifically, it riffs on a classic episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation in which a holographic version of Professor Moriarty traps several members of the crew in a simulacrum of the Enterprise that they believe to be the real thing.
The Prodigy episode's choice of setting, and plot, is telling. While it isn't directly connected to the events of the upcoming third season of Picard , its use of the gag clearly signals things to come. Moriarty is slated to return on Picard, and "Ghost in the Machine" has quietly suggested that fans brush up on his past appearances without compromising its ability to tell its own story.

Professor Moriarty Is One of Star Trek's Unique Antagonists
Moriarty first appears in The Next Generation Season 2, Episode 3, "Elementary Dear Data." To make their Sherlock Holmes holodeck program more challenging, Geordi instructs the computer to create a foe capable of outwitting Data. It's an unfortunate slip of the tongue -- Geordi means a foe capable of outwitting Holmes , whom Data plays in the holodeck to the engineer's Doctor Watson -- which results in the program's Moriarty gaining self-awareness.
That returns to bite the crew in Season 6, Episode 12, "Ship in a Bottle." Unable to leave the holodeck and wearying of his time trapped there, Moriarty lures Data, Lt. Barclay and Picard into a holographic version of the Enterprise , indistinguishable from the real one. They believe they're in the "real" world while they're actually stuck in the holodeck with him the whole time. The trio eventually solves the dilemma by making Moriarty believe that he has freed himself from the holodeck, then leave his program running in a memory module, where he could experience a lifetime in the 24th century unaware that he was still in a computer's data banks.

Prodigy Makes a Nod to Moriarty Without Harming Its Own Narrative
"Ghost in the Machine" finds the Protostar crew using the holodeck to puzzle out how to safely contact the Federation. They eventually give up and leave, only to find themselves in a simulacrum of the Protostar still within the holodeck. The remainder of the episode concerns their efforts to find a way out, as well as determining why the holodeck malfunctioned in the first place.
Unlike "Ship in a Bottle," the Prodigy episode gets the twist out of the way early. The crew figures out that their spaceship is make-believe in the episode's first few minutes, while Picard and his friends don't solve the mystery until late in the second act. That's in keeping with Prodigy 's need to focus on its own crew's dilemma of getting back to the Federation, in which their malfunctioning holodeck program plays a large part. Moriarty doesn't come into play at all (though someone similar does), and while "Ghost in the Machine" openly tips its cap to "Ship in a Bottle," it borrows only the concept and leaves the remaining details untouched.
Yet its placement in the schedule -- a short time before Moriarty's return on Picard -- is a quiet nudge to Star Trek fans to do a little catching up. With Star Trek 's new line of shows so tightly scheduled, it's hard to believe that it's a mistake. The specifics of it let Prodigy continue with its own storyline unimpeded, as well as making an excellent episode in and of itself. Moriarty differs from other Star Trek antagonists in that his wishes are not unreasonable and his emotions are quite justified. Picard may change all of that, making Prodigy 's subtle admonition all the more important.
New episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy stream every Thursday on Paramount+.

The executive producers of the series are Kevin Hageman Dan Hageman, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Katie Krentz, Aaron Baiers, and more.
Star Trek: Prodigy premiered on Paramount+ on October 28, 2021, and began airing on Nickelodeon on December 17. The first season of 20 episodes will continue from October 27, 2022, and a second season is in production.

Star Trek: Prodigy Plot and Cast
Star Trek: Prodigy follows a group of lawless teens as they discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning, and salvation. The teens know nothing about the ship they have commandeered – a first in the history of the Star Trek franchise – but over the course of their adventures together they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.
Season one of Star Trek: Prodigy premiered on Thursday, Oct. 28 with a one-hour episode, exclusively for Paramount+ subscribers in the U.S. New episodes of the first half of season one will continue to roll out weekly on Thursdays through Thursday, Nov. 18. Following a mid-season break, the remaining five episodes of season one’s first half will be available to stream weekly on Thursdays, starting on Thursday, Jan. 6. The 10-episode-long second half of season one will be available on Paramount+ at a later date next year, to be announced.
The Star Trek: Prodigy voice cast includes Kate Mulgrew, Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, Rylee Alazraqui, Angus Imrie, Jason Mantzoukas, Dee Bradley Baker, John Noble and Jimmi Simpson.
Star Trek: Prodigy Season 3 Release Date
Considering that the Season 1 midseason finale airs on November 18, and the back half of the ten-episode season started airing on January 6, 2022. The second half of Season 1 will premiere later this year and so, we can expect that season 3 should be aired by 2024.
The makers have officially confirmed anything about the series yet. It is produced by CBS Eye Animation Productions and Nickelodeon Animation Studio in association with Secret Hideout, Roddenberry Entertainment, and Brothers Hageman Productions

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Returning Cast & New Character Guide
Walter koenig says william shatner was “funny” & “made us all laugh” on star trek: the original series, star wars fans spot a massive clue to the acolyte's new sith lord.
Warning: This Article Contains SPOILERS for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5, Episode 5 - "Mirrors"
- Star Trek: Discovery season 5 brings back the Mirror Universe's ISS Enterprise with a male computer voice.
- Captain Burnham and Booker discovered the derelict ISS Enterprise in interdimensional space and brought it back to the Prime Universe.
- The USS Enterprise's voice is female, but it's male in the Mirror Universe.
Star Trek: Discovery season 5 brought back the Mirror Universe's ISS Enterprise and mirrored the change Star Trek: The Original Series made to the Enterprise's computer. Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Cleveland Booker (David Ajala) found the derelict ISS Enterprise in interdimensional space and piloted it back to Star Trek 's Prime Universe. The Mirror Universe's Enterprise in Star Trek: Discovery is the same ship introduced, along with the Mirror Universe, in Star Trek: The Original Series ' classic episode "Mirror, Mirror". Naturally, the ISS Enterprise's computer is the opposite of the USS Enterprise's computer in both series.
On his X, Jörg Hillebrand (@gaghyogi49), who was a researcher for Star Trek: Picard season 3, pointed out that the ISS Enterprise in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5 , has a male computer voice, just like the ISS Enterprise does in Star Trek: The Original Series ' "Mirror Mirror." This is a 'mirror reversal' of the USS Enterprise's computer, whose female voice was provided by Majel Barett-Roddenberry. Check out the post below:
John Winston voiced the ISS Enterprise computer in Star Trek: The Original Series, and Barnaby Carpenter provided the ISS Enterprise computer voice in Star Trek: Discovery.
As Burnham seeks the universe's greatest treasure in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, she'll need help from a host of new and returning characters.
Star Trek's Computer Voices Are Traditionally Female
But not in the mirror universe.
Starfleet computer voices are traditionally female in Star Trek. Majel Barrett-Roddenberry voiced not just the USS Enterprise's computer in Star Trek: The Original Series , but also the starship computers in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager . Star Trek: Picard season 3 laudably restored Majel's voice as the USS Enterprise-D's computer. On Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ' Alex Kapp is now the voice of the USS Enterprise's computer. However, to make the Mirror Universe's ISS Enterprise 'the opposite' of the USS Enterprise, the Mirror computer voice was and still is male in Star Trek: Discovery .
No one can ever replace Majel Barrett-Roddenberry as a Star Trek computer voice.
Different actresses voice the various computers in the current Star Trek on Paramount+ series . In Star Trek: Discovery , Annabelle Wallis voices Zora, the sentient and emotionally sensitive supercomputer of the USS Discovery. On Star Trek: Lower Decks , Jessica Ruth McKenna voices the USS Cerritos' computer. Star Trek: Prodigy 's Bonnie Gordon is the voice of the USS Protostar's computer, among other roles. In Star Trek: Picard season 3, Amy Earhart was the voice of the USS Titan-A's computer. Of course, no one can ever replace Majel Barrett-Roddenberry as a Star Trek computer voice, but Star Trek: Discovery season 5 went the proper extra step by bringing back a male computer voice as Majel's ISS Enterprise counterpart.

Doug Jones Explains His Recent Absence From ‘Star Trek: Discovery’… And Confirms Saru’s Return
| May 5, 2024 | By: TrekMovie.com Staff 17 comments so far
Fans have noticed how actor Doug Jones has been missing from the most recent episodes of Star Trek: Discovery . The actor has now explained what kept him away and confirmed his return.
Where is Saru?
Doug Jones has been a series regular for Discovery since the first episode. With the exception of a couple of episodes in season 3, likely for story reasons, he had appeared in every episode, but that changed in season 5. He appeared (and was in the main credits) for the first three episodes, which saw Saru move from the USS Discovery to Starfleet HQ to take up a new position as an ambassador for Starfleet. While Saru was seen and heard briefly in the fourth episode, Jones was not credited as the time travel episode utilized old footage from season 3. Jones’ Saru also didn’t appear in episodes 5 and 6.

Fans have been curious about this absence, but the actor explained, saying he took time off Discovery to promote his appearance in the 2022 film Hocus Pocus 2 , where Jones reprised his role as Billy Butcherson from the original 1993 film. Jones’ explanation was in a reply to question on Twitter/X, so it may have been missed by most fans…
I was off promoting Hocus Pocus 2 at the time, but I will be back for more before the season ends! — Doug Jones (@actordougjones) April 27, 2024
The fifth season of Star Trek: Discovery was in production in Toronto during the summer and fall of 2022. Hocus Pocus 2 was released on September 3oth, 2022. Jones did a lot of press for the film around this period. You can see an image below of Jones at the red carpet premiere in New York on September 27th, below.
Production on season 5 of Discovery wrapped up on November 20th . Jones has confirmed he will be back, but it isn’t known for how many episodes. Given the time frame, he should be back for at least the finale and possibly one or two additional episodes. Jones also confirmed in a TrekMovie interview from earlier this year that he also returned for the “epilogue” shot in 2023 to turn the season 5 finale into a series finale. In that same interview, he talked about how he was of two minds when it comes to the series ending:
There’s a part of me that’s melancholy that it’s the fifth and final season. Nobody wants to hear “final,” but at the same time, I think in this day and age to get five seasons is really good with television the way it is now. But the other part is a bit of relief. I was just talking about memorizing large blocks of science fiction dialogue. That’s very difficult and so I don’t have to do that anymore. “Oh, yay!” And also the rubber bits. I love Saru. He is a part of me now. But he also comes with a look that’s glued onto me and taking that off for the last time was like, “Oh, oh that’s good. I don’t have to wear that again.”
It does appear that the producers of the show had time to work around Jones’ schedule, which likely resulted in Callum Keith Rennie joining the cast as a series regular as Rayner. By the third episode, Rayner had stepped into Saru’s former role as first officer of the USS Discovery.

But Saru will be back. If nothing else, the show has to finish Saru’s romance storyline. By the third episode Saru and T’Rina (Tara Rosling) were just announcing they were getting married. Could the season finale include a Kelpien/Vulcan wedding?

The fifth and final season of Discovery debuted with two episodes on Thursday, April 4 exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S., the UK, Switzerland, South Korea, Latin America, Germany, France, Italy, Australia, and Austria. Discovery will also premiere on April 4 on Paramount+ in Canada and will be broadcast on Bell Media’s CTV Sci-Fi Channel in Canada. The rest of the 10-episode final season will be available to stream weekly on Thursdays. Season 5 debuts on SkyShowtime in select European countries on April 5.

I regret that he wasn’t able to be more involved with the fifth season – especially because it became the final season. At least we got Commander Rayner as part of the deal though.
Good to know but I do wonder if it was a cost saving measure in general. The show feels a lot more budgeted this season.
Well that makes sense. Honestly I’d like to see Saru get role in Starfleet Academy or his own spin off show or movie. He’s been my favorite character from the show so far.
It’s a shame because that time off was wasted promoting a movie that flopped hard.
I don’t even remember it coming out lol.
I haven’t seen it (or the first one) but it was a Disney+ movie, I did see a lot of chatter about it my social media so I think some people were into it.
Flopped? First of all it was a Disney + movie, secondly they are developing a third. It might not have been popular in your mind, but it was well liked from what I remember.
Saru is the best part of the show. Doug Jones is a phenomenon. Would love to see him in the future, in his own show or a spin-off …
He brings so much heart and soul to the character. Saru is just one of the most likeable characters of any Trek.
leave it to the writers’ room of DSC to take the one likable character and sideline him. uhhh hey they like smartass shaw lets uh replace Saru with a smartass not Romulan but looks Romulan
Why would we leave it to them when clearly they weren’t even involved in the decision? Leave it to Sean not to read an article! (I assume it’s okay for me to just make that little fact up seen as it’s what you do lol)
Have you even read the article? Obviously not. How about going back to do that before commenting next time.
Not a fan of the show, but every single Saru storyline has been written well and performed beautifully. I’m actually excited for this prospective Kelpien/Vulcan wedding LOL.
I’m glad he’ll be back but his absences, for me has been notable. Especially knowing that this is the final season.
And why are Owo and Detmer also MIA?
Probably scheduling problems as well. For example, Oyin Oladejo (who plays Owo) starred in Orah, a movie that was shot in 2022 and released in 2023.
My favorite character from Discovery. Can easily forget he is human. This is how amazing is his acting. Jones gave an excellent character to the franchise.
