"He's a perfect dog for the wilderness… I believe in him." Lionsgate has unveiled an official trailer for a film titled Hero Dog: The Journey Home , yet another Homeward Bound riff about a dog that helps save a human. It's not an exact copy, but close enough, and considering this is a direct-to-DVD title don't expect much originality. Crossing a lake by boat to return to his family, Royce, who is blind, is stranded when the boat's captain suddenly falls ill. To find help, Royce enlists Chinook, a brave malamute doggo, to serve as his seeing-eye dog as they navigate the wilderness. Chinook must protect Royce from treacherous rapids, jagged rocks, and savage mountain lions on their long, heroic journey of survival. Starring Natasha Henstridge and Steve Byers , with John Tench and Zackary Arthur . It does look like an inspiring and lovely story of a dog being the best boi, and I'm glad Ikona gets named in the trailer along with the human actors. Enjoy.

Parents need to know that The Journey Home is a visually stunning family adventure film starring Real Steel's Dakota Goyo that takes place in the Canadian Arctic. There are some dark themes about the realities of living in a harsh environment with dangerous wildlife, including conversations about having to shoot polar bears that come too close to civilization and people who fall through the ice while exploring. Many characters carry rifles for protection, and one animal that was killed by hunters is shown. The main character also has to confront the death of his father and the fact that adults, including his parents, sometimes lie. Profanity incudes "bulls--t," "ass," and "frigging." But there also are wonderful messages about protecting the environment and the culture of Native populations and the importance of developing independence and confidence as you age into adulthood. What's the Story?

When Luke ( Dakota Goyo ) finds a polar bear cub that has been separated from his mother, he's determined to reunite the pair, even if the journey is dangerous. When Luke's family discovers he's missing, they have no one else to turn to but Muktuk ( Goran Visnjic ), an experienced tracker who may have been responsible for the death of Luke's father. But when Muktuk rescues Luke after he falls into melting ice, the pair find themselves stuck in a dangerous storm, alone on the ice. Will they be able to survive the dangerous journey to save the polar bear cub? And will Luke ever discover the truth about his father's death?

Is It Any Good?

Although it's a visually stunning homage to the beauty and splendor of the Canadian Arctic, this adventure film falls a bit flat on plot development and dialogue. Kids with short attention spans will appreciate the quick jump into the perilous journey across the ice, but older kids and adults may want a little more character development and less awkward lessons on the Arctic wildlife. But animal and nature lovers will enjoy the playful romping of the polar bear cub and the incredible shots of narwhals, seals, and more.

Parents no doubt will appreciate the overarching emphasis on protecting native wildlife and cultures and the responsibility we all have to protect the defenseless, even if it is a bit heavy-handed. They'll also appreciate the more nuanced messages about the give and take of parents learning to allow kids to become their own people, as well as that of kids learning that parents are complex adults.

New Film Tells Tim’s Story AND Patterns of Evidence Story

Many believe the Bible is a record of God’s miraculous intervention into people’s lives, but does God still intervene today? The answer is YES! PATTERNS OF EVIDENCE: The Journey Home is the untold story of Timothy Mahoney, the creator of the award-winning film series, Patterns of Evidence .

With the death of a critical team member, Tim felt it was essential to document on film how he and his team have experienced God’s intervention in their own lives and during the making of Patterns of Evidence films.

But Tim realized he couldn’t make this self-inspection film by himself, so he hired award-winning director Rick Altizer ( Show Me the Father , Russ Taff: I Still Believe ). This compelling true story follows Tim’s journey from brokenness to freedom connecting the dots with the Israelites journey home in the Exodus.

During the interview, Rick probed deeper into why Tim would spend so much of his life looking for biblical evidence. The questions revealed a dark family secret of domestic abuse and loss that Tim had kept buried within his soul. 

What could have been a tragedy became a story of freedom and redemption. Patterns of Evidence: The Journey Home will inspire many to see that God is at work when their families are broken and fatherless.

The Journey Home is a heartwarming and adventurous family movie from 2014 that follows an 11-year-old boy named Luke, played by Dakota Goyo, and his quest to reunite a young polar bear with its mother in the Arctic. Luke is a young Canadian boy who loves the outdoors and spends most of his time exploring the wilderness. One day, he comes across a polar bear cub who has been separated from its mother due to a sudden ice melt. The cub is injured and alone, and Luke feels compelled to help it. He names the cub Nanu and takes it home, hoping to nurse it back to health and find its mother.

However, Luke soon realizes that he cannot keep the polar bear cub in his house forever. He decides to take it on a dangerous journey through the Canadian wilderness to the Arctic, where he hopes to reunite it with its mother. Despite the dangers they face, including treacherous climbs, freezing temperatures, and encounters with wolves, the two develop a close bond and become close friends along their journey.

The journey is not without its challenges, and Luke is pursued by a group of hunters who are after the polar bear cub for its valuable fur. With the help of a friendly Inuit, played by Goran Visnjic, and some surprising allies, Luke must protect Nanu and make it to the Arctic before it's too late.

Throughout their journey, Luke and Nanu learn valuable lessons about the importance of family, friendship, and determination in the face of adversity. As they make their way through the rugged terrain, they encounter breathtaking vistas and face dangerous obstacles that test their courage and resilience.
