the tour itself was amazing. The national parks do not disappoint. The travel accomodations were very cramped and uncomfortable. I am only 5 foot tall and I was cramped in this 14 passenger van. Food opportunities were limited.
Fantastic experience - efficient use of time, great itinerary. Well-informed and interesting guide who is also just a great person.

Great trip. Wonderful guide.
Amazing trip to see some of the best of US National Parks. Very educational and fun to learn about the history of the area and meet the locals on various tours and restaurants.

Great tour, good group size too
Great experience!

Southwest Adventure Tours

Southwest Adventure Tours

  • Excellent - 95 reviews for USA tours
Just couldn’t have been better. Extremely professional guides Robin and Sarah were highly knowledgable, friendly and organised. Accomodation was excellent in every location (most hotels even had hot tubs and pools!) and the food options were always good. Lovely comfortable Mercedes minibus. Highly recommended to everyone - would do another tour with South West Adventure Tours in a heartbeat.
Guide was knowledgeable and helpful. It was a good group

Intrepid Travel

Intrepid Travel

  • Excellent - 11,690 reviews for USA tours
My son and I had a great hiking adventure on the Sedona tour! The scenery was stunning, the hikes were fun! Tolman was an excellent guide, who was very knowledgeable about the area, he had great hiking tips, and he picked some enjoyable challenging hikes for us! He was also an excellent cook! He prepared us some great meals! His positive outlook on everything helped the group of strangers on the trek quickly bond which led us all to have a great hiking experience!
Judd was excellent, and very knowledgable, he was very prepared and i would recommend Intrepid to my friends and family

Trafalgar

  • Excellent - 1,886 reviews for USA tours
Excellent. Great guide, driver, weather, hotels, food. Great itenirary. Love love this trip.
Optional excursions were reasonably priced. Suggest you put together other places in each city as a walking guide or short taxi or uber ride. Example access to close by museums open late and could walk to from hotel. Free time activities and what they are and where located is helpful.tour guide can offer to accompany a group interested to explore more during free leisure tome.Provide more detail info about the logistics of site visits. Niagara falls..suggest more water proof gear clothing and shoe types etc. Terrain to expect when visiting certain sites and possible alternatives.climbing and how difficult-easy or more strenuous or advanced climbing activity. Overall, small groups so much better than filling up bus. Thank you for giving single travelers their own bus space. Would love to watch more travel videos on longer driving distances.

BrushBuck Wildlife Tours

BrushBuck Wildlife Tours

  • Excellent - 23 reviews for USA tours
Although the tour was very expensive- over $2000 for 3 days is over the top- it wss a great experience, saw lots of wildlife and the guide was outstanding
What an amazing experience this was; from the greeting and pick up by our guide/driver, to the phenomenal sights and the historical references that accompanied them! I am so pleased. This was an exceptionally planned tour that successfully met all of my needs. I would not change a thing and look forward to future adventures with them.

National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures

Good time with lots of riding in the van going to interesting places
We had a wonderful time. The tour was well planned and well managed. The CEO was excellent ..good driver, good communicator, had good knowledge of the local attractions and made great recommendations for restaurants. The group we were with was also a very pleasant group which made the experience that much more enjoyable. That said, would have loved to see the accommodations updated.. most except the Denali cabins were old and "weathered".

Globus

  • Excellent - 74,884 reviews for USA tours
This was our second trip on Globus and both experiences were fantastic.
I was skeptical of a group tour, particularly by coach. The experienced guide, Jason, along with driver Shauna, changed my view completely.

Insight Vacations

My first experience with an organized tour like this. Expense alone will limit future trips. Much more walking than my wife was prepared for. This alone reduced her enjoyment. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and thorough with his planning and execution. Andrew has a fun personality and very personable. One item that disappointed me was the shuttle from airport to resort at both ends of the
Insights Tours are always amazing and this one was no exception. Nice balance of free time to relax and experience Hawaii on your own with visits to places on the islands to experience the culture. Learned a lot of Hawaii’s history throughout our visit. Overall a lovely experience and would highly recommend if you want to visit Hawaii and learn more about the islands.

Infinite Adventures

Infinite Adventures

  • Excellent - 118 reviews for USA tours
It was my first group trip and also my first camping trip. I have to say it was one of the best trips I've been on. It was an adventure! We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights at Remote Camp. Tory and Dave took care of everything and made sure everyone had a great time. No matter what problem you had, they always helped each other! Dave cooked delicious food, we had marshmallows by the fire in the evening and it felt like family. It's a great tour and I can only recommend it to anyone! It certainly wasn't my last tour with Infinite Adventure! Many thanks to Tory, Dave and Natalie (who you could ask any question you wanted to know beforehand) for this unforgettable time! :)
Jump on the bus with Infinite Adventures for a magnificent Alaskan expedition! Dave and Tory are excellent guides and will keep you informed about the areas you visit and give expert advice. I found this to be a truly joyful experience!

Could have had more included activities
The tour had a few bumps. It would have been better if there were some included meals. There was no information about some of the excursions such as where the island tour stopped.

This was a fast but nice tour and Dave was a good guide. Only in LA i thought we should have had more time but it was perfect for a Solo Travler
I enjoyed this trip . The coach is good.Hyannis first day break fast was good.coverage is good.Hyannis golf resort stay is superb.providence city halt in hotel graduates is excellent.Fall colours coverage is very good.coach guidance is okay.overall the trip is very good.

The Coyote Trip

The Coyote Trip

  • Good - 11 reviews for USA tours
This trip was run like a school trip, we were told that we had to stick to the schedule rigidly even though I asked several times to visit a different museum/shop. Free time was limited and it seemed like the guide had specific ideas of what he wanted to do and see. Our guide also left us on a subway in New York to get home close to midnight and then we had issues getting checked into the hostel. FYI most tour guides make sure their group gets to the hotel safely and without hassle. Waste of time and money.
From a speedboat to the Statue of Liberty to fireworks on 4th July in Washington to hiking to Yosemite Falls, this trip showcased the very best the USA has to offer. I went on the 21 day Full Cyote trip from New York to San Francisco with my brother. With such a packed itinerary of included activities, it offered great value for money. The guides in every region we visited were excellent. A particular shout out to Ryan, who added in extra stops and experiences based on the group's interests. Other highlights included the Grand Canyon, Washington's museums, whale watching in Boston, cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge and sunset in Griffeths Park. I met a great group of people on the trip, and I wouldn't hesitate to book with the Cyote Trip again.

What we do best

At go travel, we offer a wide arrangement of travel services from airfare and tours to luxury cruises and tailor-made vacations. here's a bit more about what we love to do.

Customized Tours   ---------

We are all different. We have different passions, interests and aspirations... especially when it comes to travel. To some, it's a full-day of sightseeing with an expert historian to some of the most culturally rich ruins and cathedrals in Rome. To some, it's an afternoon of shopping in the high-end districts of Paris followed by an evening of wining and dining along the Champs-Élysées. And to others, it's an immersive journey into China with a combination of touring the Great Wall in Beijing, enjoying tea and dim sum with locals in Hong Kong, and exploring ancient China’s wonders aboard a scenic Yangtze River cruise.

At Go Travel, we understand that every travel adventure is personal and excel at matching you with that "wow" experience that you are seeking. This is true for shore excursions during a cruise tour just as it is true for the longer journey. From customizing your schedule to working with our tour operators to curate your ultimate adventure, from mild to wild, we are here to create for you the vacation of your dreams.

Cruises   ---------

Go Travel was founded in Miami in 1979 – a time in which cruising as we know it now was just beginning to take shape. Previously, cruising had been purely destination-oriented, but over the last 40 years, cruising has evolved into an industry full of every option imaginable. The choices for guests are much clearer. Not only do you have a choice of ocean relaxation, arctic adventure, river exploration, and super luxury yachting, but also you have an onboard choice of "let's dance all night" live bands, great lecturers and education, full steady courses on computing and finances, and culinary experiences with some of the top chefs in the world. You have access to explosive entertainment, extreme expeditions, and the ultimate in luxury. The selection can vary from cruises ships catering to families and children to exclusive small ship journeys and specialty themed itineraries. Our key staff has witnessed this industry growth throughout the years and thus have the expertise and knowledge to match you with that exact cruise experience that’s best for you. With the majority of all major cruise lines being based in Florida, Go Travel’s Florida headquarters location definitely brings advantages giving us close proximity to our cruise line partners for continuous development in terms of education, negotiation, and cooperation. Because of our long history along with these close partnerships with the cruise lines, we have access to the most competitive rates and bonus amenities available. When planning your next cruise with Go Travel, you can be confident that you have the most knowledgeable professionals in the industry creating your ultimate cruise vacation.

Groups   ---------

Go Travel has been a leader in group travel for nearly 40 years. In that time, group travel has become an increasingly popular way to travel. Whether it may be a family celebration, bachelorette getaway, seminar-at-sea, or entertainment event, traveling as a group is fun, convenient and offers a fantastic opportunity for group members to network, while at the same time, see the world! You may opt for a land adventure, a shipboard journey, or a combination of both land and sea. We handle anything from small family groups to 500+ meeting/entertainment groups during which we can arrange a variety of activities including teambuilding, cocktail parties, meeting facilities, and/or specialty entertainment.

Our close relationships with partners around the globe means that your group has access to special complimentary amenities. Plus, we negotiate the most competitive rates on your behalf, so you can rest assured your guests are receiving the best possible value. Furthermore, when organizing a group, the booking process can be extremely time consuming when you need to collect from each of your friends and family their individual information and preferences. Instead, let Go Travel manage the details of your next group trip while you focus on enjoying your memorable group getaway.

Corporate Travel   ---------

Business travel planning requires expert knowledge in the complexities of organizing seamless travel arrangements while adhering to company guidelines and policies. When traveling for business, that personal touch is indispensable. Clients delaying a contract signing date... it happens. Flights being cancelled due to poor weather... it happens. But having a knowledgeable agent continuously monitoring your itinerary and making the necessary changes before you know there is even an issue... simply a smart decision. Let our team take all the worry out of your corporate travel. Ideal for small to medium sized businesses, our dedicated agents can provide not only their specialized expertise, but also the benefit of Go Travel's global negotiating strength to offer your business the most competitive rates and most favorable amenities. With policy compliance and business travel cost being major priorities, we can provide your company with customized reports to streamline your company's travel spend analysis. At Go Travel, we are passionate about delivering personalized and unparalleled travel planning while simultaneously maximizing your travel cost savings.

How to Choose the Right Travel and Tourism Marketing Agency in USA?

Choosing the right travel digital marketing agency in USA   to build or improve your marketing campaign is critical. But how can you know if you’re partnering with the right agency for your company?

You can start by asking to meet the people you’ll be working with at each agency you interview. Then ask for case studies to see how they’ve represented companies in your field. Your travel digital marketing agency’s marketing strategies and approach should be tailored to your target audience. Throughout the process, the best agencies analyze personas and buying stages for your target audience.

Then, it comes to reviewing your tourism marketing agency’s content development skills. Does it provide value while driving traffic to your website? You also may want to see if your digital marketing agency can track and comprehend performance data after they prove that they can create engaging content. Now you’re ready to boost your travel company’s online presence!

What are the Tourism Marketing Agency Services in USA?

Marketing strategy.

Investing in tools like Google Ads will work better for your travel company’s marketing plan than investing in sponsored links or paid traffic. They enable you to target ads to those who are interested in what you have to offer, in addition to expanding your target audience.

Pay per click (PPC) marketing for the travel and tourism industry is an efficient, focused, measurable, and cost-effective method of marketing that requires no upfront fees if done correctly.

Travel companies should recognize that social media marketing is a more effective way of attracting new visitors than traditional ads, and they should definitely use social media marketing in their marketing strategies to encourage individuals to share their real-life experiences online.

The travel industry is extremely competitive, not just in natural search, but also in paid search, online, offline, and all of a direct marketing agency's services. SEO for the tourism sector is more crucial than ever, with so many companies competing for those desired top spots in search engine rankings.

The most important benefit of a good web design for travel and tourism brands is that it allows you to promote and sell vacation packages from your own platform. You may submit, maintain, and publish trip packages thanks to an easy-to-use website.

In the travel sector, content marketing can help you increase bookings and reservations while also helping you differentiate yourself from the competition. As a result, it is one of the most in-demand tourism marketing services.

U.S. issues travel warning for Israel as Iran expected to attack any time

Tel Aviv  — Israel is bracing for a worst-case scenario that U.S. officials believe could materialize within just hours — the possibility of a direct attack on Israeli soil by Iran in retaliation for a strike almost two weeks ago that killed seven Iranian military officers. Iran has vowed to take revenge for Israel killing its commanders, who were hit by an April 1 strike on the Iranian embassy in Syria's capital.

Two U.S. officials told CBS News that a major Iranian attack against Israel was expected as soon as Friday, possibly to include more than 100 drones and dozens of missiles aimed at military targets inside the country. Sources have told CBS News the retaliation could include attacks carried out both by Iranian forces, and proxy groups around the region that it has been funnelling additional arms to for weeks.

The officials said it would be challenging for the Israelis to defend against an attack of that magnitude, and while they held out the possibility that the Iranians could opt for a smaller-scale attack to avoid a dramatic escalation, their retaliation was believed to be imminent.

Asked Friday how imminent he believes an attack is, President Biden responded, "I don't want to get into secure information, but my expectation is sooner than later." The president urged Iran not to move forward, saying his message to Tehran was: "Don't."

Tehran has not indicated publicly how or when it will return fire, so it's unclear how far Iran's leaders will go. If they decide to carry out a direct attack on Israel, there's fear it could blow Israel's ongoing war against Iranian ally Hamas up into a much wider regional conflict.

With the Iranian retaliation expected at any time, the U.S. State Department on Thursday warned Americans in Israel not to travel outside major cities, which are better protected from incoming rocket fire by the country's Iron Dome missile defense system. The latest guidance noted that travel by U.S. government employees in Israel could be further restricted with little notice as things develop in the tinderbox region.

"Whoever harms us, we will harm them," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Thursday as he visited troops at an Israel Defense Forces airbase. "We are prepared … both defensively and offensively."

Sima Shine, a security expert and former official with Israel's national intelligence agency Mossad, told CBS News it was a dangerous moment for the region, and the "most worried" she has been. She said anxiety over an all-out war was likely just as high "on both sides, in Israel and in Iran."

If Iran does choose to strike Israel directly, it could involve a complex missile and drone attack similar to the one Iranian forces launched against a Saudi oil facility in 2019 .

"They will try to do it on the military or some military asset," Shine predicted. "But the question will be the damage. If there would be many injured people, killed or injured … I think it has the potential for a huge escalation."

Shine stressed, however, that she still believes neither side actually wants a regional conflict.

U.S. "really trying to avoid war"

The U.S. sent a senior general to Israel this week to coordinate with the close American ally on any response it might make to an Iranian attack. Speaking Friday on "CBS Mornings," America's top military officer said, "we're really trying to avoid war."

"This is part of the dialogue that I have with my counterparts within the region, to include the Israeli chief of defense, who I talked to yesterday," said Joint Chiefs chairman Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Jr., adding that the U.S. military was "doing things not only to prevent a war, but at the same time, one of my primary things is to make sure all the forces in the region are protected."

"My role, as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, is to plan and prepare," Brown said. "That's one thing we do very well."

Brown's Israeli counterpart, Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, "completed a comprehensive situational assessment on the readiness of the IDF for all scenarios," Israel's military said Friday.

"The IDF is very strongly prepared, both offensively and defensively, against any threat," Halevi was quoted as saying in the statement. "The IDF continues to monitor closely what is happening in Iran and different arenas, constantly preparing to deal with existing and potential threats in coordination with the United States Armed Forces."

The IDF said the visiting U.S. general, Central Command chief Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, was taking part in the IDF's situational assessment.

The dilemma for Iran, said Israeli expert Shine, is to figure out how to deliver its promised response to Israel's attack in Syria, but in a way that does not lead to further escalation. Likewise, Shine said Israel could choose to show restraint when it responds to whatever Iran eventually does.

If either side gets the balance wrong, the consequences for the region, and even the world, could be dire.

US restricts travel of embassy workers in Israel as Iran retaliation looms

Editor's Note: This page is a summary of news on the Israel-Hamas war for Thursday, April 11. For the latest news on the conflict in the Middle East, view our story for Friday, April 12 .

The U.S. State Department issued a security alert Thursday for its personnel and their families in Israel, limiting where they can go amid increased concerns of an Iranian attack.

“Out of an abundance of caution, U.S. government employees and their family members are restricted from personal travel outside the greater Tel Aviv (including Herzliya, Netanya, and Even Yehuda), Jerusalem, and Be’er Sheva areas until further notice,’’ the alert says. “U.S. government personnel are authorized to transit between these three areas for personal travel.’’

There’s no reference in the alert to an impending Iranian strike, but Tehran has signaled it will retaliate for the April 1 assault on its consulate in Damascus, which killed seven senior Iranian military officers. Israel is widely believed to have launched that attack, although it has not claimed responsibility.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken reached out in the last day to the foreign ministers of China, Saudi Arabia and Turkey “to make clear that escalation is not in anyone’s interest and that countries should urge Iran not to escalate,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters Thursday.

With the Israel-Hamas war still raging past the six-month mark, the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem is also urging American citizens to be mindful of the risks of traveling to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, warning against visiting the embattled Palestinian territory.

“The security environment remains complex and can change quickly depending on the political situation and recent events,’’ the alert says.

Israel to 'flood Gaza with aid': War of words with Iran also heats up

Developments:

∎ Thousands of ultra-Orthodox Jews demonstrated near a Jerusalem enlistment office, protesting a recent court ruling that means "Haredim" men will be drafted for the first time since Israel was founded in 1948.

∎ Israel is prepared for military confrontations beyond Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday, amid concern that Iran was getting ready to strike Israel. "Whoever harms us, we will harm them," he said.

∎ The Israel Defense Forces said it began a "precise, intelligence-based operation to strike terrorist infrastructure and eliminate operatives in central Gaza'' overnight into Thursday.

∎ Russia urged countries in the Middle East to show restraint to avoid "complete destabilization" of the region. Russia also warned its citizens against traveling to the Middle East.

Iran says it must punish Israel because UN didn't condemn embassy attack

Tehran must retaliate for the deadly attack on its consular compound in Damascus last week because the U.N. Security Council failed to condemn the strike or take any action against Israel, Iran’s U.N. mission said in a statement posted Thursday on the X platform.

“Had the U.N. Security Council condemned the Zionist regime’s reprehensible act of aggression on our diplomatic premises in Damascus and subsequently brought to justice its perpetrators, the imperative for Iran to punish this rogue regime might have been obviated,” the statement said.

Despite its threats, Iran has indicated to the U.S. through an intermediary that it will respond in a manner that avoids an escalation of hostilities with Israel and wouldn’t rush into it, Reuters reported. The U.S. has maintained it was not involved in or given advance notice of the attack.

Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for the April 1 attack on an Iranian consulate annex building adjacent to the Iranian embassy in Syria that killed seven high-ranking Iranian military officers, including Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi of the elite Quds Force. Tensions between the nations have increased, and Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned Wednesday that “the evil regime made a mistake and must be punished.”

The top U.S. commander for the Middle East reportedly arrived in Israel on Thursday for meetings with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and other senior defense officials to discuss an anticipated military response from Iran,  Haaretz.com  reported. Gen. Erik Kurilla’s trip comes a day after Blinken spoke with Gallant and “reiterated the United States’ support for Israel’s security and made clear that the U.S. will stand with Israel against any threats by Iran and its proxies,” the State Department said in a statement.

U.S. Central Command, in an email to USA TODAY, declined to confirm Kurilla’s trip: “We do not discuss flag officer travel for operational security.”

Hamas official says cease-fire needed to account for hostages

A senior Hamas official on Thursday deflected questions from journalists concerning fears that many hostages could be dead. The possibility gained traction after Hamas said it was not sure it could provide 40 living Israeli civilian captives as part of a cease-fire proposal. Dr. Basem Naim, a member of political bureau of Hamas, said a cease-fire agreement is needed to provide time and safety to collect information on the captured Israelis. They are held in different places by different militant groups − and some are "under the rubble, killed with our own people" and heavy equipment is required to find them, he said.

No one is asking about the thousands of Palestinians kidnapped by Israel since the Hamas-led attack Oct. 7 that ignited the war, he said.

"The most outrageous is the repeated questions regarding the hostages in Gaza, how many alive or dead, does Hamas rejected the proposal because it can’t release 40 hostages in the first phase, etc ..." he said in a statement posted on Telegram. "The lives of their people aren’t more precious than ours."

UNICEF aid convoy hit with gunfire, turned back from Gaza

A UNICEF convoy was hit by gunfire Wednesday as it tried to deliver aid to northern Gaza, the latest in a series of violent obstructions faced by aid workers in the enclave.

"The incident has been raised with relevant Israeli authorities," UNICEF said in a statement. "Sadly, humanitarians continue to face risks in delivering lifesaving aid."

The incident occurred nine days after a World Central Kitchen aid convoy was attacked by Israeli rockets, killing seven workers − and the same day Israel promised to greatly increase the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a USA TODAY request for comment on the incident.

UNICEF spokesperson Tess Ingram told Al Jazeera she was in one of the vehicles at a “holding point” area at a checkpoint. She said three rounds hit the car where she was sitting. The mission had been authorized and the Israeli authorities knew about the convoy, Ingram said. After the shooting, Israeli authorities continued to delay the convoy and it eventually was forced to return to Rafah.

“So those life-saving supplies never made it to the children in northern Gaza,” Ingram said.

Israeli commander pitches aid plan to Red Cross, other agencies

Israel's Southern Command chief, Major General Yaron Finkelman, met with representatives of U.N. agencies, the Red Cross, IMC, USAID and the American Humanitarian Coordinator as part of "increasing coordination and cooperation on the issue of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip," the Israeli military announced.

The meeting comes as Israel announced plans to greatly increase access to humanitarian aid for Gaza residents. Plans include a new border crossing designed make it easier to bring humanitarian supplies from overseas and from Jordan to the east.

“These breakthroughs have a direct impact on the flow of aid – we plan to flood Gaza with aid," Gallant said. "It will also streamline security checks and strengthen our work with international partners.”

Children with pots and pans queue up for food

Unrwa vital to avert starvation in Gaza, says agency official

Comments by Sam Rose, of the UN body for Palestinian refugees, come amid fears Israel plans to squeeze agency out of Gaza

  • Middle East crisis – live updates

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees must remain “the backbone of any humanitarian response” for the 2 million people in Gaza if mass starvation is to be avoided, the Unrwa director of planning, Sam Rose, says.

Israel is continuing to impede Unrwa convoys to northern Gaza, where 300,000 people are facing famine, he said. “Our space is continuing to be squeezed at a time when the international community urgently needs to get as much assistance as possible to people in the north.”

More than half of the 16 countries that suspended funding to Unrwa – the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East – after Israel claimed 12 of the 13,000 Unrwa staff in Gaza had taken part in the attack on Israel on 7 October have already decided to resume funding.

However, the US Congress has passed a law banning US funding of Unrwa – normally worth more than $300m (£236m) a year – until at least March 2025. Germany has provided €45m (£39m), but not as yet to Unrwa’s Gaza operations. No decision has yet been made by the UK on funding resumption.

An independent report due to be published on 20 April written by the former French foreign minister Catherine Colonna is not expected to recommend the closure of Unrwa, but to provide clear procedures to ensure the organisation’s neutrality.

There are fears in the aid community that regardless of decisions on the resumption of funding and the opening of new aid crossings, Israel intends to act on its plans to try to squeeze Unrwa out of Gaza permanently. Israel resents that the UN body provides welfare and humanitarian services for Palestinian refugees and their descendants. In Gaza, it claims the agency is entangled with Hamas, which has run Gaza since 2007.

Unrwa says it has to maintain indirect links with de facto authorities in Gaza to distribute aid, just as all UN aid agencies do around the world. Israel has briefed reporters that it aims to phase out Unrwa’s operations across Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem.

Rose, who has worked in Gaza, warned: “It is also becoming increasingly difficult for Unrwa to operate in East Jerusalem, because our international staff aren’t getting visas and our own national staff aren’t getting permits to come into the city. Imports have also been restricted and a bank account with an Israeli bank has also been frozen. So whilst the attention is on Gaza, what’s happening in the West Bank cannot be overlooked.”

He said Unrwa welcomed reports of an Israeli cabinet decision to open new crossings, including the port of Ashdod, but that the organisation was waiting to see how and when this would materialise. “Let us see what happens, but in the past what they have publicly said they’re going to do, they have now been doing.” Increased, sustained and predictable access is essential for humanitarian aid and, more importantly, for the commercial sector, to prevent an already catastrophic situation from becoming worse.

After last week’s icy phone call between the US president, Joe Biden, and the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, 419 trucks entered Gaza on Monday, a record number for a single day since the war began.

Rose said that Unrwa could not simply be switched off by Israel. A new agency would have to hire the same staff and use the same infrastructure and yet not have the same networks or understanding of conditions on the ground. “The simple reality is that no other UN organisations are set up to deliver education to hundreds of thousands of children or healthcare to over 1 million.”

He added: “Unrwa is a 75-year investment by the international community. This shouldn’t be about what we can replace, but what the international community can do to make sure that this war is the last war, to safeguard the lives, freedoms and the future of Palestinians and Israelis by refusing a return to the status quo.”

He said the organisation had funding until May but needed to buy food for 1.1 million people to be distributed in the summer.

The US state department spokesperson Matt Miller appeared to endorse Unrwa’s future role, saying: “We have repeatedly made clear to the Israeli government the important role that Unrwa plays in delivering humanitarian assistance and said that that work should continue unhindered.”

Rose, just back from Gaza, where he said lawlessness and suffering were catastrophic, added: “People are wandering around looking for water, looking for food. Even international staff, who are very privileged in the context of Gaza, come out hungry most times because there’s so little food. We can’t bring much in ourselves and there’s very little in the market at prices anyone can afford.

“And then there’s just a sense that the longer it goes on, the more and more people are just exhausted. Every time you’re woken in the night by an air raid or a tank shell, you’re not starting from zero, you’re in a slightly worse place than you were a time before. People are often coming to work traumatised and in a state of shock.”

He continued: “I don’t want to talk blithely about these things. But one can imagine soon just a total breakdown for lots and lots of people. There’s only so long you can cope with the misery. We’ve got staff who come to work to forget about what is going on outside because there’s a structure and you can forget about the fact that outside, there’s no clothes for your kids, no medicine, no food, and sanitary conditions are appalling.

“So many of their colleagues have had somebody killed and they lost their homes, and they lost everything. They’ve literally got the bags that they were carrying, and, you know, staff that were relatively well off have moved 10 or 15 times because they just followed the conflict around. Many are in tents because they are safer than if you are in a building that has an internet connection, and somebody latches on to that internet connection as a target, then the building could go up.”

There is no real education and prospects for a resumption any time soon are extremely limited, as most of Unrwa’s nearly 300 schools are either being used as shelters by hundreds of thousands of displaced people or have been damaged or destroyed.

“Anyone thinking rationally wants to get out of this, or is unwilling to come back home since they’ve lost everything. Palestinians highly, highly value education and take it very seriously, and lots of people are leaving, people just want to get their kids out. They know the numbers of buildings that have been destroyed, and all the universities have been flattened, and it’s currently hard to see a long-term future.”

Doubtless many Palestinians find it difficult that it took the deaths of western aid workers for Biden to issue warnings to Netanyahu that the Israeli prime minister heeded.

“Palestinians are not idiots,” said Rose. “They are well educated, they’re very worldly given the fact that they’ve never been allowed to leave their world.”

PRESS RELEASES

Global travel advisor groups raise concerns around american airlines’ anti-competitive actions.

World Travel Agents Associations Alliance (WTAAA), Association of Canadian Travel Agencies and Travel Advisors (ACTA) and Foro Latinoamericano de Turismo (FOLATUR) Join ASTA in Speaking Out to Protect Travel Advisors and Consumers

Alexandria, VA, April 12, 2024  – The World Travel Agents Associations Alliance (WTAAA), Association of Canadian Travel Agencies and Travel Advisors (ACTA), and Foro Latinoamericano de Turismo (FOLATUR) have joined  the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA)  in sounding the alarm about American Airlines’ latest ploy to force travelers to use AA’s new, proprietary booking tool that leads to reduced consumer choice and higher costs. These three organizations, representing hundreds of thousands of travel advisors in more than 75 countries, each issued statements in response to American Airlines’ new policy, which will threaten the travel advisor industry globally.

Starting on May 1, American will no longer award AAdvantage rewards to flyers unless they book directly through American owned or preferred channels. This means that travelers who book flights with a travel agency could lose their right to earn miles. In their letters, all three organizations echoed concerns previously raised by ASTA, about the impact of American’s actions:

“American is actively discouraging travelers from booking through the travel agency channel. …This heavy-handed tactic will fragment distribution, drive up costs, and reduce transparency for consumers who seek to compare offerings across multiple airlines. It also demonstrates a troubling disregard for the critical role that travel agencies play in serving travelers, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic when their expertise and personalized service were more valuable than ever.” –  WTAAA

“Restricting the ability to earn loyalty points through these channels will undoubtedly disadvantage consumers who value booking through their trusted travel partners. Furthermore, this decision will have far-reaching consequences for the openness and competitiveness of the travel marketplace. By leveraging its position to restrict consumer choice, American Airlines is engaging in practices that will lead to higher prices, stifled innovation, and a less dynamic travel industry.”  –  ACTA President Wendy Paradis

“If undeterred, AA will continue with its ever-increasing discriminating pattern, and other airlines in the oligopolistic air transportation market will certainly follow … Both air passenger in the US and foreign markets are and will increasingly be negatively affected by these anticompetitive business practices.” –  FOLATUR

“It’s clear from the consensus among WTAAA, ACTA and FOLATUR, representing travel professionals around the world, the detriment that American’s decision will have on the travel industry globally,” said Zane Kerby, President & CEO of ASTA. “American is operating in bad faith, looking to pad its bottom line at the expense of our valued clients and the millions of consumers who rely on their trusted travel advisor to help them secure the best price, value and peace of mind when it comes to their business and personal travel.”

ASTA recently launched the Save My Miles campaign to raise awareness and amplify the voices of travel advisors and consumers who will be impacted by American’s decision. For more information, visit:  www.savemymiles.com .

ABOUT ASTA Rebranded in 2018 as the American Society of Travel Advisors, ASTA is the leading global advocate for travel advisors, the travel industry and the traveling public. Travel tips for snowbirds returning to Canada

From: Canada Border Services Agency

News release

April 12, 2024 Ottawa, Ontario

The Canada Border Services Agency and the Canadian Snowbird Association are encouraging Canadians who have spent the winter abroad to plan ahead for a smooth return to Canada this spring.

These are the top travel tips to know before arriving at the border:

Have your travel documents handy.  Whether travelling by land, air or water, you can help speed up processing times by coming prepared with your travel documents.

Driving home? Plan ahead and check  border wait times . You can avoid waiting in line by planning your drive to cross the border during non-peak hours such as early morning.

Flying home? Save time with Advance Declaration .  Download the application on your smart phone to make your customs declaration up to 72 hours in advance of your arrival into Canada at the Toronto, Vancouver, Montréal, Winnipeg, Halifax, Québec City, Ottawa, Billy Bishop, Calgary and Edmonton international airports. Data shows that using this tool can reduce time at a kiosk or eGate by up to 50%.

Be prepared to declare your goods upon entry into Canada.  Gather your receipts for goods purchased or received while away before you travel and keep them readily available. Visit I Declare: A guide for residents returning to Canada and use the  CBSA duty and taxes estimator  to help calculate your monies owed. You should be aware of everything that is inside your vehicle as you are responsible for its contents.

Know your exemptions from duties and taxes .  If you have been outside of Canada seven days or more, you can import goods worth up to CAN$800, duty-and tax-free. Within this personal exemption, you are allowed to bring back duty and tax free:

  • Two bottles of wine (1.5 litres total), or one large standard bottle of liquor (1.14 litres),  or  approximately 24 cans or bottles (355 ml each) of beer (8.5 litres total); and,
  • 200 cigarettes, and 50 cigars, and 200 grams manufactured tobacco,  and  200 tobacco sticks. The packages must be stamped “duty paid,” as you would find them at a duty-free store.

Travelling with medication?  If you have a prescription for a narcotic or controlled drug, you must declare it and ensure its in properly labelled container. Learn more about your responsibilities .

Travelling with firearms? If you are travelling with a firearm be sure to check the  rules on importing firearms  and other  restricted and prohibited goods before your departure. Better yet, consider leaving the firearm at home.

Importing a vehicle ?   If you are a resident of Canada you can  temporarily import a vehicle  that is licensed and registered in the United States, however, the duty and tax implications, the length of time the vehicle can remain in Canada, and how the vehicle can be used in Canada may differ. If you are permanently importing a vehicle from the U.S. or Mexico, visit Canada’s  Registrar of Imported Vehicles  website prior to arriving at the border for details about vehicle eligibility and the overall process, including the necessary duties and taxes.

Bringing poultry across the border?  Any poultry products you wish to bring into Canada must be for human consumption, retail packaged and labelled as a "Product of the USA." Homemade food or leftovers containing poultry cannot be brought into Canada. Check the latest  Information for travellers: Restrictions on poultry and birds from the United States  before bringing these products across the border.

Travelling with a pet or importing an animal into Canada? You will need the right paperwork at the border to meet Canada's import requirements.

Not sure? Ask a border officer.  The best thing you can do to save time is to be open and honest with the CBSA officer. Be sure to follow all instructions they provide to you. If you are not sure about what to declare, don't hesitate to ask. Our officers are here to help!

Quick facts

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) supports national security and public safety priorities by facilitating the free flow of persons and goods, including animals and plants.
