We offer a range of exciting short courses for government, industry and the wider community to promote Chinese learning, as well as a better understanding of Chinese people and their culture.

Griffith staff and the current PhD students can enrol in any scheduled Tourism Confucius Institute Group course free of charge. Contact us to register. We also will be offering after-school classes, programs for school students and test preparation workshops for Chinese proficiency exams(HSK) when it has been deemed prudent to do so. Please note that the HSK tests in 2024 have been changed and updated. Enquiries regarding eligibility, test dates and registration, please contact us .

The Tourism Confucius Institute is not involved in teaching or curriculum design for any University undergraduate or postgraduate degrees.

The Institute also plays no role in commissioning research.

Our teaching activities are done under the direction of a senior Griffith academic and, in many cases, in partnership with community organisations.

The Tourism Confucius Institute is a partnership with China University of Mining and Technology in China.

About this program

In this degree, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the tourism sector, underscored by sustainability principles. You will develop core business skills in areas such as financial management, leadership, management, marketing and strategic management, and enhance these with an understanding of how to manage employment relations in a culturally diverse context.

Thanks to Griffith's close working relationship with the major hotel chains in South East Queensland and tourism operators, you will have the chance to gain knowledge from guest speakers and experience via a wide range of innovative work-integrated learning activities.

You will learn industry-standard systems and graduate with the skills and knowledge employers want, and be fully aware of the culture, service and competitive aspects of international tourism and hotel corporations.

Attendance information

This program is offered full-time and part-time at the Nathan and Gold Coast campuses and online. You may choose to study courses at other campuses where the program structure allows.

As a full-time student you will generally attend 12-16 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the trimester. As a part-time student, you will generally attend 6-8 hours of scheduled classes per week.

Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week.

Student Income Support

To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.

Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.

Domestic students who commence in Trimester 3 may be eligible for student income support from the onset of study provided they are enrolled full-time in this study period.

Work-integrated learning

All students will have the opportunity to undertake a work-integrated learning activity in this degree program. These activities integrate theoretical learning with its application in the workplace. The inclusion of work-integrated learning activities in the degree program demonstrates Griffith's commitment to preparing its graduates for success in their working life.

You'll be well prepared for work in a range of international tourism and hotel management roles, including in hotel and resort groups and the accommodation sector. You could also find employment opportunities in independent restaurants and internationally recognised chains, with entertainment and leisure providers, such as theme parks, with suppliers of goods and services to the hospitality industry, in airlines, and with local, state and federal tourism and regional planning authorities.
