TOURIST HOME ALL DAY CAFÉ

In the heart of Flagstaff, you’ll find the flavorful and friendly, hip and delicious Tourist Home All Day Café.

tourist home cafe and market

Built in 1926 by Basque Sheepherder, Jesus Garcia, and his mother, the Tourist Home was originally a boarding house. A renovation of the historic structure preserved the building and now boasts a modern, clean and stylish restaurant with upscale appeal serving up amazing fresh pastries, baked goods, sandwiches, fresh ingredients and The Tourist Home definitely lives up to their mantra  to “Basque in our Awesomeness.”

You will smile instantly and tempt your taste buds when you order the grilled chicken sandwich made with marinated chicken breast, goat cheese, roasted red peppers, cilantro pesto, aioli, greens served on a toasted bun with chips, fruit salad, side of greens or substitute mouthwatering fries.

Tourist Home

INGREDIENTS

  • 4-6 chicken breasts, trimmed of fat
  • Sturdy, good quality buns. We use a buttery “milk bun”.
  • Soft goat cheese
  • Roasted red bell peppers, sliced thin
  • Baby greens
  • Chimichurri sauce
  • Red Wine Vinaigrette

Tourist Home

INSTRUCTIONS

We marinate our chicken breasts in our house red wine vinaigrette before grilling, but a store bought vinaigrette can be used if desired. The chicken is given a soft, buttery bun and topped with homemade aioli and chimichurri sauce, roasted red bell peppers, and goat cheese and baby greens.

  • Place 4-6 chicken breasts in a zip lock bag. Pour the red wine vinaigrette over the chicken. Seal the bag and marinate in the refrigerator for one hour.
  • When you are ready to make your sandwiches, cook your marinated chicken breasts on your favorite grill or stovetop grill pan. Using a kitchen thermometer, make sure the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees. Remove from the grill and set aside.
  • Give your buns of choice a gentle toasting on the grill. Smear a generous amount of aioli on the bottom bun and top with the baby greens and then the grilled chicken.
  • To complete the sandwich, top the chicken breasts with several strips of roasted red peppers, a few ounces of goat cheese, and a generous drizzle of chimichurri sauce before adding the top bun.

Ratings and reviews

Location and contact.

It was busy that morning and so we waited for less than 30-minutes, sitting in the car in the parking lot, before being seated outdoors at a covered picnic table. Having read many positive reviews about the place I was looking forward to one of... my favorite things to eat for breakfast at a restaurant, an imaginative omelet. So, I was a little disappointed to learn (I foolishly hadn’t checked out he menu in advance) that likely due to Covid choices would be limited and not include any omelets. Our server first inquired if we’d be interested in a freshly made donut and of course we responded yes, and then ordered the Brioche French toast with fresh berries for my wife and the classic breakfast (sausage patty, tots, and eggs) for me. The food arrived and it was all good, but still, I missed the magic of a good omelet. We settled up the tab at $41 including tip; it’s interesting on how much pricier what was once one of the most reasonable dining options has become. Then again, reduced capacity in restaurants has to be offset somehow and slightly higher prices are the price we need to pay to keep our eating establishments in business during the crisis. More

There were four of us and we preferred to eat inside so we waited about 30-minutes but found seating after we had purchased Bloody Marys. We were surprised by inside seating because none of us felt very secure on the movable stools with no backs.... There were no hooks to hang our bags so everything had to go on the floor. However, we were delightfully surprised by the affordable and tasty food. Between the four of us we got a Cuban Sandwich ($11), Breakfast Burrito ($8), French Toast ($8) and the Breakfast Sandwich on an English muffin with pimento cheese and bacon. I could barely see the pimento cheese and didn't taste it at all so next time I'll ask for a small side of pimento cheese too. We stayed two hours visiting so obviously the chairs weren't that difficult to get comfortable in. We will return. More

We stumbled on this place by accident and were delighted with our delicious lunch in this friendly, low-key vibe spot. My husband and I shared the delicious and generously portioned black bean and chicken burrito, which the kitchen kindly divided into two platters for us,... followed by an outstanding cinnamon bun chosen from the delectable array of fresh baked goods. Highly recommend this place.Delicious food at a reasonable price, and very friendly service. More

Today my husband and I tried to go to another restaurant for a light bite and a cocktail but there was a long wait. So we asked for a nearby recommendation and they said Tourist Home. So glad they did! Friendly hostess, we chose to... sit inside where it was a little cooler. They asked that we wear a mask while walking around or when a server was at your table, otherwise it was ok to remove with while seated. Socially distanced tables with a great atmosphere. We had cocktails (margarita and a cosmopolitan) and split the turkey bacon avocado sandwich on a 9 grain bread with their house fries. The sandwich was fresh and tasty but the French fries were soooo good! What made it tho was the house-made ketchup. I should of asked for a bottle! LOL Cole who was our server and the bartender (obviously a skilled mixologist) was fantastic. For you bourbon/whiskey fans, zoom in on the photo and look behind my cosmo. The array will make you drool! I’m hoping they’re still open later tonight so I can pop in for a night cap!! Definitely a great place to dine. Maybe breakfast might be in my future there too! The menu looked great and I bet ya they make a mean Bloody Mary!! More

Thanks so much for dining with us. We are pleased you enjoyed everything and hope you’ll dine with us again soon.

We had breakfast here (served all day) and enjoyed a perfect iced Americano and a good local take on breakfast favorites. We ate the Eggs Benedict with green-chile hollandaise served over smoked pork and the Breakfast Hash. The staff was super friendly and attentive, and... the cozy patio kept us lingering long after we finished eating. Our experience was as close to normal as you can get during a global pandemic and was a good start to our day of exploring downtown Flagstaff. Would definitely go back! More

Thank you for the kind words! We hope you’ll dine with us again soon.

We stopped by Tourist Home for breakfast on Saturday of our trip so my husband could try the cinnamon roll. It was really good. We both had different tea lattes which were also great. My husband enjoyed his breakfast burrito and I had the chicken... and biscuit. I wasn’t a huge fan of the gravy, but the biscuit was excellent. We both enjoyed our meals so much that we returned for a late lunch the same day. I had the grilled cheese and their soup of the day. Both were good. I added turkey to my grilled cheese and I think that was a wise choice. My husband had the grilled chicken sandwich and enjoyed it along with his tots. The only weird thing is that they have banana pudding on their menu, but both times we ordered it, the server acted like she had no idea what we were talking about and referred to their bread puddings. We ended up getting the banana pudding that we wanted, but the confusion was odd. More

I had high hopes for lunch at Tourist Home since it had a lot of great reviews. We ate lunch on a Tuesday around 1 pm. There was a 20 minute wait, but we ended up getting seated in about ten minutes. The patio was... very nice and tables were spread out. We ordered a Cuban sandwich, a turkey club, an iced tea, and a beer. We also asked for more water and noted that each table except for ours had its own refillable water carafe. Well, we never got a water carafe so we ended up running out of water and having to flag someone down, which was tough because they were busy. We noticed 3 tables who were seated after us all got their food and we'd been waiting for about 35 minutes. My husband's beer had yet to arrive either. Finally, we flagged down our waiter who apologized and said the kitchen must have lost out ticket. Our order came out about 20 minutes later. It was good. My husband really liked his sandwich. But it was a 50 minute wait for food, a big struggle to get water refills, and my husband's beer arrived just as we were asking for the check. So while the food was good once we got it, we didn't have the greatest experience. More

It’s refreshing to find a place that actually gives a shi* about great food. This place is comfortable, clean, and if you’re a foodie, I mean a real gritty back of the house dish pit alum, you will feel like these folks cooked with “respect”... for you. Like they cared about you because you actually “meant something” to them. The way I always cooked for my dish guys. I needed them and always showed them my appreciation through the food. From the barista, to Marley our server, to the culinary team, they nail every texture and doneness, and your eyes will get you salivating with every presentation. The hash bowl combined root veg not traditional to the norm, and the combination effin rocked my palate! Even when I was done, the beet liquor remnants combined with the egg yolk to create what looked to me like an Arizona sunset. (No... I had not smoked anything). The almond croissant was on point with flakes of buttery pastry, the right incorporation of almond paste, and a perfect caramelization on the bottom to totally nail an almost “brûlée” flavor element. Mind blowing attention to foundational culinary, with inspiring ingredient combination, and thoughtful execution. BRAVO! You should all be famous! (Just stay humble) Cheers to you! More

Walked in and had to wait but it wasn’t full so not sure why. Then we seated at the front facing the street and we were left alone for another 5 minutes . Finally a waitress came and took our order saying she would bring... our drinks. That didn’t happen. After calling another person our drinks came without cream and sugar and spoon. Our breakfast was ok. Again it was delivered, person walked away but no utensils to eat with. I had eggs over medium, bacon, and tots. Eggs were runny, bacon tasted weird and tots were greasy- only ate egg whites. Husband had eggs, sausage and hash browns. It all was just ok. Would not go back again. More

Sad to say I was very disappointed with my breakfast. I ordered coffee for myself, my wife just had water. Our waitress completely forgot to bring my coffee, I had to ask another server to get it for me. Coffee was pretty good. I ordered... home fries with my eggs and it came out with French fries. A different waitress put in a new order for me. It took quite a while until they arrived and I was just about done with my eggs. I will say my wife had the buttermilk pancakes and they were very good. One other thing I personally did not like were the seats. No tables or booths just hard round wooden seats and you at a small counter that goes around the perimeter of the restaurant. Maybe I am just old fashioned but I want to be comfortable when I eat. The people that work there were very nice and friendly. It just was not my morning for breakfast. More

Hi there- I am very sorry to hear your experience with us was anything but excellent. Sounds like we just barely missed the mark with you. Upon your next visit I hope you'll find we live up to your expectations and let us find you... More

We stopped here for breakfast on our way from Williams to Amarillo. Flagstaff is a beautiful little city but the parking is limited and isn't free. Oh well. We both had the classic breakfast, eggs over medium, hash browns, bacon, toast, English muffin and orange... juice. Everything okay to good. Eggs arrived over easy but that was fine with us. Ordering is unusual, by kiosk. Once you do that, you grab a numbered puck and place it on specific spot at your table or counter. This place was very busy. It's obviously very popular with locals. Interior space is small but they have a large outdoor dining area. Service was hectic and slow. Not much of an ambiance and the decor is sparse and plain. No big deal, we were there to eat. Too bad that overall it was only average. More

The food was good but the service was horrible. They implemented this QR code ordering system were you order food without waiter. That is horrible. It takes forever to get your food from the kitchen but if you want to add something, like toast or... something, it takes another 15 to 20 minutes. Your drinks never get refilled, you can’t find someone to help you if you have any questions. Will not be back there for sure More

The food was great. We ate here while on a visit to Az. It was so nice to find good food, not the standard restaurant fare. It tasted FRESH and wasn’t full of grease. If we had stayed in Flagstaff another day we certainly would... have returned. Further, the staff was friendly and kind. They treated us like a guest, not just another customer they had to shovel food to. I infrequently write reviews and after eating here I felt compelled to do so and give them a good rating. More

Arriving early into Flaggstaff at 4:40 am on the Amtrak train, I was hungry and tiered. The kind woman working at the Amtrak office recommended "Tourist Home All Day" Cafe because it opened at 6 am and was close to the station. I walked over... to San Franscisco Street and saw a charming building that looked like a home on the corner. I walked up the stairs and into the charming building. What an awesome place. They bake their own pastries from scratch and serve a full menu breakfast and lunch menu. It was so relaxing inside and the staff was really helpful. Enjoyed a cup of tea with a luscious blueberry scone that just came out of the oven. Nobody rushed me. I was able to relax at the table and eat my scone, and later sip on some tea. Restroom was so clean and tidy. My gosh the whole place was sparkling clean and full of warmth. What an incredible place to begin one's day especially since I hadn't slept much on the train and had a long day ahead of me heading to Grand Canyon. You'll love this place! It's Super Marvelous1 More

My husband and I went here for brunch. I liked the wide ranging menu and ambiance. The menu had a lot of variety and allowed you to build your own meal. I had scrambled eggs, a fried-breaded chicken fillet, and biscuits with white sauce gravy.... I have never noticed this on any restaurant’s menu before, and it was fun to try. It tasted very good. The portion was huge and I could only eat half of it. I also had a tasty London Fog. My husband enjoyed a hash bowl. The service is excellent and friendly, but is limited. The restaurant does some things to streamline the need for servers. Our server explained the system. You can order with a QR code, or better yet, go to the front counter and order and pay there, giving them your table number. (The tables are clearly labeled.) The server explained to us that you pick up your own silverware, napkins and glasses of water at a nearby self-serve counter. The server explained that if you order plain coffee or tea, you get a mug from the counter inside the restaurant and serve yourself. The refills are free. If you order a specialty drink like a latte or a London Fog, the server will bring it to your table. The server also removes the dishes when you are done eating. The restaurant has limited mostly shared-table indoor seating, and very extensive outdoor seating. The weather was great so we sat outdoors under a huge canopy. This canopy would probably offer rain protection. Other people sat outdoors in the sunlight in a very quiet private area that was surrounded on two sides by the walls of a former building. The outdoor seating leads to a small protected building called the annex which might be a good place to sit if it was raining hard. We enjoyed our visit to this restaurant. More

Bienvenidos a Flagstaff .

tourist home cafe and market

tourist home cafe and market

tourist home cafe and market

tourist home cafe and market

tourist home cafe and market

tourist home cafe and market

tourist home cafe and market

tourist home cafe and market
