Licensure Requirements

Maryland was the first state to join the NLC , the nation’s Nurse Licensure Compact.

What does this mean for travel nurses? It means if you have a valid nursing license from another state in the NLC, you don’t need to acquire a Maryland nursing license to legally work as a travel nurse in Maryland.

If you don’t hold a license from a participating NLC state, you’ll be required to apply for a Maryland licensure by endorsement . To do this, you must take the following steps with the Maryland Board of Nursing:

1. Get fingerprinted. This may be done in one of two ways:

a. Electronically: Print the last page of the CHRC Form . Take it to one of the sites located on this page b. Hard cards (out of Maryland) Request a fingerprint packet from [email protected] , please:

i. Include your name and mailing address.  ii. Have your prints rolled/inked on the cards (please email your mailing address to this email for us to send them out).  iii. Mail the fingerprint card and associated fee to CJIS – Central Repository, P.O. Box 32708, Pikesville, MD 21282-2708, or overnight the fingerprint card to 6776 Reisterstown Road, Suite 102, Baltimore, MD 21215.  iv. Include a check or money order made out to “CJIS Central Repository”. Fees are found on CJIS’s website

2. Verify that your nursing education is approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing. 3. Provide verification of your nursing license. The Maryland Board of Nursing permits licensure verification through Nursys .Ⓡ . If your original state of licensure does not participate in Nursys Ⓡ , you will need to contact the Board of Nursing in that state. 4. Provide written, verified evidence of completion of the appropriate education requirements (official transcript) emailed directly from a digital credentialing service. 5. Complete an online RN/LPN endorsement application.

If you have held a Maryland RN or LPN license in the past that is currently listed as inactive, non-renewed, or invalid, you must request a renewal packet from: [email protected].

If you have never held a Maryland license but hold an active license in another state, you must continue with the endorsement process. ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE AND NON-TRANSFERABLE.

Requests for verification forms require a $25.00 check or money order and may be sent to the Maryland Board of Nursing, ATTN: Endorsement Department, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21215-2254.

The Maryland Board of Nursing issues a temporary nursing license to qualifying applicants. To find out if you would be eligible, click here .

Licensure Fees

Fees for licensure by endorsement in Maryland include:

  • Application fee: $100
  • Temporary license fee: $40
  • Background check: $57.25

Nurse Licensure Compact Status

Maryland joined the Nurse License Compact in January 1999 and now operates under the new NLC effective January 19th, 2018.

Thousands of Nurses Love Partnering with Trusted Nurse Staffing

Christina m.

I just started working with Trusted Staff Nursing in January. I’m on my first assignment in Maryland and absolutely love it. Kyle has helped in guiding me in the right direction, been an amazing support system, and answered all my questions along the way. I’m so happy I took this opportunity and wish I would’ve done it sooner!

Trusted nurse staffing is such a great company to work for and they are so easy to work with. I love using them as my first company for travel nursing!

My recruiter did an amazing job at finding the best fit for me! An outstanding job with communication, updates and ensuring all my questions were answered!!

I have been with Trusted Staffing for about 18 months now. I have essentially been working local contracts, but the experiences have been memorable. My recruiter, is always available when I have a question or concern. Travel nursing is something all nurses should experience. I can't wait until I can do some serious traveling

Every member of this company I’ve interacted with has exceeded my expectations. My recruiter, Alex, is so commutative and goes above and beyond always. I can’t imagine switching to another company!

I have had the best experience with Trusted Nurse Staffing. My recruiter Tom is amazing. He always treats me with respect and as a friend. He is on top of everything I need. And when my Dad passed away, he helped me with time off, no problem and they even sent me a beautiful comfort box that was very helpful. Fully recommend this agency.

Travel Nurse Job Salary & Responsibilities

Your travel nurse salary is based on your specialty, experience, and education. Nurse job descriptions focus on technical knowledge and skills; attention to detail; and communication with patients, families, and healthcare professionals in critical situations. But, a nurse’s responsibilities also require a combination of compassion, patience, and resilience.

This isn’t news to you. You came to Trusted because you’ve tried travel nurse agencies without the personal support you need. This doesn’t surprise us, either. We’re a team of Trusted nurses who’ve been in your shoes (those comfy, non-slip shoes). We’re here to help advance your nursing career on your terms.
