12 Space-Saving RV Dining Table Options

This post may contain affiliate links.

We’ve seen enough RV renovations to know the number one thing that happens in an RV remodel is removing the dinette booth . But how would you eat dinner without an RV dining table?

The factory-installed dinette booth set or table and chairs is often one of the most inefficient uses of space in a camper or motorhome. Here are 12 RV dining table options to replace your dinette that would add extra storage and free up valuable space for other uses.

1. Drop-leaf table with shelves

Not only do the shelves add extra storage (and you could use tension rods to hold items in place during travel), but the drop leaf means you can easily store this table out of the way when not in use.

Plus, this set includes two chairs, making it shockingly affordable.

2. Drop-leaf counter height table

A recent trend is swapping a traditional table for a bar or counter-height table mounted against a wall. This is one of the best ways to open up your floor space and make your RV bigger.

You can accomplish this with shelving brackets and wood planks, or buy an existing set and attach the table to the wall to prevent tipping.

Apparently you have never been in an RV! None of the items listed on this page will work in a motor home or trailer because they are not secure to the floor, can’t accommodate transfer to a full size bed, and have sharp edges.

Actually, I lived in an RV for three years, and I removed all of the furniture that came with my RV and replaced it with residential furniture. Some of it I secured to the floor with the use of D-rings, some of it I held in place with bungee cables, and some was so solid there was no chance it was going to budge.

‘L’ brackets are the way to go. There’s nothing RV about our 5th wheel. It’s totally furnished with normal furniture. When we move it, we simply bungee the chairs and everything else to something that’s secure, close it up and head out. Whoever made that rude statement has absolutely no ability to think outside the box, modify, or improve on anything that’s already in place. Oh well, takes all kinds.

<3 <3

Awesome blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m totally confused .. Any recommendations? Appreciate it!|

I am looking for advice. We need to purchase a table and four chairs for our 5th wheel. Do you think a round table would save on room? Or would a rectangle be better? I hope the right pic is posted cause I can’t figure out how to change it. Thanks

Hmmm…It probably depends on the table, and I think you have enough space there that you could do either! 🙂

We have a permanent site camper these would work great in

20 Skinny Dining Tables To Fit Those Small RV Spaces

Unless you plan on eating every meal outside, you need a good space to eat inside your camper. And the space might need to double as a school table in the morning and an office at night. So you need something big enough to seat everyone in your family, but you also want it to look good since it will be one of the primary focal points in your trailer.

You might want to drag in your grandma’s antique kitchen table to add to your farmhouse style design , but you likely don’t have sufficient space and you have to be concerned about adding too much additional weight.

RV chassis are rated to a maximum capacity and your tow vehicle (likely a pickup truck) can only tow so much. So you can’t bring along your traditional furniture and the kitchen sink in your RV remodel.

Most RVs come with some sort of dining table, whether it’s a free-standing table, a U-shaped dinette or a table you have to attach to the floor. But many table options don’t quite fit the needs of a small family.

Dinettes are often really tight and uncomfortable for adults and it can be a challenge to get everyone in and out as they slide around the bench to their spot at the table.

And tables you have to setup and take down every time can be a hassle.

So it’s no surprise that we’re seeing more RV renovators build their own table options in their RV to meet their needs. It allows the freedom to build extra storage if needed and they look a lot better than many of the options that come from the dealer.

Free Standing Tables

It’s not uncommon to see RV renovators remove couches or small, uncomfortable dinette booths from a slide-out to add a dining table. One advantage of building your own dinette is that you can often create a storage bench along the wall, and extra storage in an RV is always a good thing!

But while it’s nice to add a bench seat with storage, that likely means you can’t have a full-size dining table or it would push out too far into the main RV space. So that’s why most renovators opt for a skinny, longer table. You can add chairs on the other side to create more seating and the bench can usually seat a few adults comfortably.

It’s often a good idea to use a free-standing table in combination with a storage bench so you can adjust the seat size (adults require a little more space than kids!) and it’s nice to be able to slide the table in when not in use to create a little more open floor space for walking or a playspace for the kids.

And if you build or use a sturdy table, it’s nice to have the option to take that table outside if your camp site doesn’t already have a table outside.

Fixed Leg Tables

The biggest disadvantage to building a storage bench for your dining table is that it pushes the table out into the main walking space. Perhaps you don’t need that much seating or perhaps you just have a smaller space that won’t allow that bench seating, but you could opt for a smaller table connected to the wall.

We often see fixed tables built into the corner of a slide-out, but we’ve also seen some clever renovators turn the back of their trailer or 5th wheel into a longer dining table with a view. Check out some of these examples below.

Ideas for replacing your RV dining table

Posted on Published: May 23, 2022

Interior of a camper with text overlay: RV table ideas.

  • RV table ideas

There are a few different types of RV dining tables that you can choose from, depending on your needs and preferences.

If you’re in a large fifth wheel or Class A, you’re going to have a lot more options open to you, than if you have a 20ft travel trailer or a Class B camper van.

But whatever size RV you have, there’ll be an RV table that will suit you and the way you like to live and travel.

So here are a few RV table ideas to get you started.

Pedestal table

Adjustable rv table, bench / bar, free standing table / skinny table, fold-down table – from the wall, dinette / credenza, folding table, camping table, diy expandable table, drop leaf table, a few things to keep in mind when looking for an rv table:.

Fixed tables

Fixed tables are a more permanent solution, and are great if you have a large RV or entertain often. Of course it does mean that you can’t move the table around, but chances are that there is only one place in your RV that the table will fit anyway.

Pedestal tables are great since you don’t have table legs getting in the way of you sliding in and out of your seat. While they are in a fixed location, it is possible to remove the table from there (and store it somewhere else) and you can often adjust the height.

Another benefit of a pedestal table is that you can just buy the leg and attach whatever table top you like.

travel trailer kitchen tables

There are lots of different brands of adjustable RV tables, but Lagun is probably the most well known in the RVing world.

The leg of the table may be in a fixed location but the beauty of these types of tables is that the table top can be swivelled around in all directions.

With all of the RV renovations I’ve looked at, I’ve seen a few people opt for a bar set-up. It makes sense to me, that if you’re going to be parked at a nice view, it would be great to be able to sit at your dining table (bar) and look out at the view.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Vintage Van Restoration (@onlyvansaus)

You could even install a bar that folds down, freeing up extra space when you need it.

Movable tables

With so many dining tables to choose from online, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to a free standing dining table. Just look for something that fits your space (maybe consider something a bit more narrow), is lightweight and can be assembled once you get it inside the RV.

travel trailer kitchen tables

Foldable tables

Foldable tables are a great option if you want to save space, as they can be easily stored away when not in use. If you have a small RV, then a foldable table would be ideal.

I’m sure you’ve seen examples of tables that are folded down from the wall.

travel trailer kitchen tables

I really like these ones that can be created with artwork on the back

Or there’s this one that converts from shelves on the wall, to a table.

travel trailer kitchen tables

Sometimes, it’s the simple solutions that work the best.

travel trailer kitchen tables

Extendable tables

Extendable tables are perfect if you need extra space on occasion, but don’t want a larger table permanently taking up space in your RV. These tables can be extended to accommodate more people, and then retracted when not needed.

Katie from Mountain Modern Life has a great tutorial on creating an expandable table. You can check it out on her Mountain Modern Life blog .

Weight of the table – the challenge is always to keep the weight inside your RV to a minimum. So this is likely to impact that size of table that you purchase, and what material the table is made from.

Size of table – don’t forget that you’re going to need to get your new table inside your RV! Make sure that it can be assembled once inside the RV, and that all the pieces are going to be able to fit i the door.

No matter what type of RV dining table you choose, make sure it is the right size for your RV and your needs. With so many options available, you’re sure to find the perfect table for your home on wheels.

10 Brilliant RV Dinette Replacement Ideas That’ll Bring Your Rig to Life

The dinette is always a core focus of any RV. For most people, this is where they’ll spend the majority of their time while in the travel trailer, except for maybe the bed. From mealtime to board games and simple nighttime leisure, the dinette is an area that brings the family together.

While a frequently used area, dinettes are designed very generically. Their footprint never accounts for individual RVers’ specific needs, and many times results in completely wasted space. Fortunately, there are hundreds of RV dinette replacement ideas that’ll transform your living space. Let’s check out a few of our favorites!

How Many People Use Your RV?

Do you need extra sleeping room, storage space, affecting your camper resale value, 1. replace the dinette with a table and chairs, 2. use the dinette space for a kid’s play area, 3. add a wall-mounted bar table, 4. remove one side of your dinette booth for extra storage, 5. professionally repuholster your dinette cushions, 6. turn your dinette into an office space, 8. compartmentalize your storage cubbies, 9. add an adjustable table pedestal, 10. or add a swinging table, refresh your living space with these rv dinette replacement ideas, things to consider for your rv dinette replacement.

10 Brilliant RV Dinette Replacement Ideas That’ll Bring Your Rig to Life 1

Before you go ahead and rip out your dining space, take note of how many people use your RV. Inevitably, everyone needs a spot at the table to sit down and enjoy their meals. If your dinette space comfortably fits your family of four, it may not be advisable to remove a bench seat in lieu of more storage.

However, if it’s just you and a partner enjoying the RV, or you’re living alone, removing a portion of your RV dinette can be a great way to add a new element to your travel trailer. Most RVs are designed with a small family in mind and manufacturers will frequently add additional seating to accommodate that. This translates to wasted space if you don’t really need it, so if there’s just one or two of you an RV dinette replacement can be a fantastic idea.

10 Brilliant RV Dinette Replacement Ideas That’ll Bring Your Rig to Life 2

Along with considering how many people will need an eating space in your RV, you should also take into account the sleeping situation. Many times, the dining area of an RV doubles as a sleeping space , normally fitting one or two people. If you’re an RV owner that uses the dinette for this purpose, you’ll need to devise an alternative sleeping spot.

Many larger RVs have bunk beds in the rear corner, and this can be an excellent solution. Alternatively, your RV dinette replacement could involve replacing the dining area with more comfortable seating that also functions as a bed. There’s nothing worse than not having a comfortable place to sleep at night, so make sure you don’t sacrifice this when doing a dinette remodel.

Be sure to factor in your storage needs when planning your RV dinette replacement. If your RV came with a booth dinette, it likely has a large storage space underneath the seats. For those into tiny living, this extra space can be huge! If you tend to keep this area filled up with your possessions, you’re going to need to find a place to relocate it to.

Now if you’re RV didn’t come with a booth-style dining table and you’re actually lacking that storage space, an RV dinette replacement can be the perfect way to add storage to your living area. If your RV is outfitted with a large dinette area that is simply too big for the use it gets, replacing it with a small table and seating area can free up quite a lot of space for storage.

10 Brilliant RV Dinette Replacement Ideas That’ll Bring Your Rig to Life 3

All RV owners know the importance of keeping your rig’s weight low. While small additions to your RV may not seem like much, they can easily tack on a few hundred pounds to the GVWR. If your tow vehicle is already approaching its maximum tow capacity , you’ll have to think very carefully about what you add to your rig.

RV furniture is specially made to be lightweight, so if you start bringing in traditional furniture that isn’t made this way, you’ll have to know how much extra strain you’re putting on your camper. When possible, always opt for lighter materials.

10 Brilliant RV Dinette Replacement Ideas That’ll Bring Your Rig to Life 4

This is something that many RV owners never think about when remodeling their rig, but it must be said! Despite what you might think, modifying your RV (even with better enhancements) does not increase its value.

Most people looking to buy a used RV are seeking something that’s stock, just as it came from the manufacturer.  When you make custom modifications, you’re changing things so that they reflect your needs only. A potential buyer is likely not going to find value in an RV that’s missing a dinette but has extra floor space for yoga instead. While this shouldn’t necessarily deter you from remodeling your RV to fit your needs, keep in mind that selling your RV in the future may be more difficult if numerous alterations have been made.

10 Creative and Functional RV Dinette Replacement Ideas

10 Brilliant RV Dinette Replacement Ideas That’ll Bring Your Rig to Life 5

Many RVers hate the built-in dining tables found in RVs. They’re generally of cheaper quality and are awkwardly placed, and require some serious squeezing to get into! If you find yourself with a dinette area that you hate, consider stripping it out of your camper and adding a traditional table and chairs!

With regular chairs, you can easily move them around to accommodate different seating arrangements, and a typical kitchen table simply looks more visually appealing. This RV dinette replacement idea can completely transform the living space! If you add a smaller table and chairs that can easily tuck underneath the table when not in use, you’ll all gain quite a bit of extra space. A disadvantage of this, however, is that you lose out on any storage space that came with the existing dinette.

If you’re an RVer with little ones, you know that it can be a struggle to dedicate space to them! This is especially difficult for full-time RVers. If you have a big, bulky RV dinette, you may want to consider removing it to add a play area for the kids. While you will sacrifice a dedicated eating space, your children will be thrilled at having a space to enjoy all of their toys on the floor.

If you have pets instead of kids, you can also remove your dinette to create an area for them. Having a dedicated area for animal beds, litter boxes, and food bowls will help keep your RV organized. You could also enclose the space with an indoor pet fence so that you’re animals stay in one place when you don’t feel like watching them!

10 Brilliant RV Dinette Replacement Ideas That’ll Bring Your Rig to Life 6

An RV dining table takes up way too much space. If it’s just one or two people using the RV, you really only need a table when you’re actively eating. One of the best RV dinette replacement ideas for saving space is installing a wall-mounted bar table. A table like this only sticks out from your wall one or two feet, and you can easily use bar stools that slide underneath when not in use.

Another great option is to add a hinge to your bar table and allow it to fold down against the wall when not being used. You’ll barely even notice it’s there and it creates a much more modern look for your RV.

As mentioned, the storage space underneath your dining booth is a huge advantage that you might not want to give up. In many RVs, this is actually the largest storage in the camper and where people keep larger, bulkier items like blankets, pillows, and jackets. If you use yours regularly, you might not want to give it up!

For one or two people, a full dinette is pretty unnecessary. Why not remove just one side of it so that you can gain extra space while not completely giving up all of the storage? Many people choose to remove just one seat and add more storage in its place, like a standing bookshelf or closet.

10 Brilliant RV Dinette Replacement Ideas That’ll Bring Your Rig to Life 7

An RV dinette gets a ridiculous amount of use and over time the fabric on the cushions can wear down and fade. Furthermore, if you own an older RV, this fabric can also be hideous! Reupholstering your dinette cushions can make your RV feel brand new.  If you don’t have the sewing skills to tackle this job, bringing the cushions to a professional will ensure you receive a beautiful result.

Alternatively, you can even upholster your cushions without any sewing! Liquid stitch is a great option for people without a sewing machine, and it’s quite durable as well. Many other people also choose to make elastic band cushion coverings that go around their existing cushions, hiding unsightly patterns beneath.

10 Brilliant RV Dinette Replacement Ideas That’ll Bring Your Rig to Life 8

In the digital age, many RVers have turned into “digital nomads”, working from their rig with just an internet connection and laptop. If this sounds like you, you’re going to need a fixed office space to do your best work and stay productive . While some people are satisfied working at a dinette, many people feel like they can’t do their best work unless they have a dedicated space.

One of the more functional RV dinette replacement ideas is completely removing it and opting for a permanent desk instead. While it may sound crazy not to have a dining room table, many people would prefer a good workspace. You can also eat at your desk or add in a little cafe table instead!

Not all RV dinette replacement ideas have to be drastic! Don’t feel like you have to go and tear down your existing dinette if you don’t want to. There’s a variety of small additions you can make to your dining area that are fairly simple but still have a huge impact. One of these is creating organized dividers in your dinette booth storage.

Oftentimes, this space below the bench is one wide open box, and if you’re like most people you simply throw everything in there in a jumbled mess. This makes pulling out that item a disaster. Consider adding dividing walls or smaller storage cubbies within the storage space to make locating items when you need them easy.

Adjustable Pedestal Marine Caravan Motorhome Table Pedestal Stand Base 22-28 Inch for RV Marine Boat

Unless you have a dinette that turns into a bed, your table is likely in a fixed location. This can be quite frustrating for people that want it at different heights. A solution to this is installing an adjustable pedestal on the floor that allows you to lower and raise the table with ease. This is also great for turning your dinette into a bed if it didn’t have that capability already.

10 Brilliant RV Dinette Replacement Ideas That’ll Bring Your Rig to Life 9

Along with an adjustable table pedestal, you can even add a swinging table mount that allows you an infinite amount of table positioning possibilities. This is one of those RV dinette replacement ideas that really add functionality to your rig. If you’re prepping vegetables, you can easily swing the table over to you so that you don’t have to sit down to chop. Ready to eat? Simply swing the table right back over.

Despite what you may have thought, you don’t have to be stuck with an RV dinette you despise! If your dining area isn’t working for you, take the initiative to change it up yourself. With these RV dinette replacement ideas, you can easily transform your rig into the exact layout you want it to be.

Whether that means downsizing to a smaller dining table or adding open floor space, you’ll be thrilled with the added functionality it provides. So get to it!

Best Lightweight RV Dinette Table Top Replacement

Laminate Dinette Table Top For RV Camper Or Trailer

Updated April 9, 2024

I replaced the dinette table top in our Class C RV with an awesome lightweight product. It has made converting the dinette into a bed much easier. We replaced it five years ago, and it has held up really well!

The best lightweight dinette tabletop replacement I have found for your RV or Camper is a great product called LamaLight. It is up to 40% lighter than standard laminate dining table tops that are made with heavy particleboard.

LamaLight is a great lightweight substitute to standard heavyweight laminated dining tops found in most RVs, Campers, and Trailers. It is made with a 9/16″ total thickness, a 1/16″ laminated surface, and a 1/2″high-density core with a protective backing for a total thickness of 1 1/8″.

Most standard laminate dining table tops in an RV, camper, trailer, or boat are made from particleboard, plywood, MDF, or other heavy hardwoods and then covered with laminate.

Therefore, these dining table tops are incredibly heavy and add to the overall weight of your RV. And if your dinette doubles as a bed, like mine, lifting the heavy laminate top can strain your back.

For this reason, many people, myself included, have looked for a light, strong and durable alternative to the old heavy laminate dinette or dining tabletop.

Be sure to check out my YouTube Video at the end of this article about our Class C RV dinette table replacement!

Difference Between an RV Dinette Top and Countertop

The biggest difference between a dinette dining tabletop and a countertop is that your dinette can double as a bed, and it needs to be able to hold the weight of one or two people. A countertop doesn’t need to hold nearly as much weight.

So, a countertop doesn’t need to be as strong as an RV dinette top. Weight and strength are the most important features you should look for in a replacement dinette tabletop for your RV, camper, or trailer.

What Are My Replacement Dinette Top Options?

We have created a list below with many of the options you can use for RV, camper or trailer countertops. We considered the three major factors you would most likely use to decide if a countertop material would be suitable for a replacement dinette or dining table in your RV if it converts into a bed.

The Factors we used a Price per square foot, Weight per square foot, and Strength.

As we have noted below in green highlight the LamaLight dinette tabletop only weighs 1.5 lbs s/f. It is incredibly light, making it a great choice for your RV, Camper, or Trailer. It is also a cheap alternative compared to the cost of other products.

So Why Choose LamaLight?

The main reasons to choose LamaLight over laminate when replacing your RV dining table top are strength, durability, and lightweight. And there are many other reasons too, as listed below. LamaLight has the following features:

  • Water and mold resistant
  • Formaldehyde-free
  • Easy to Clean
  • Not made of wood so it won’t rot
  • No particle board swelling if the top gets wet
  • Many colors and designs are available

Above all, when it comes to reducing the weight of your RV, camper or trailer and still maintaining strength, we know of no other dining table top replacement that is this lightweight or durable.

How Much Does A LamaLight Replacement Table Weigh?

LamaLight weighs about 1.5 lbs per square foot at 3/4″ thick. It is 40% lighter than common laminate tops and 64% lighter than Corian©!

Check out this comparison? The following shows the weight of 3/4″ thickness LamaLight vs. other popular dinette tabletop options in a 12″ x 12″ piece of material.

  • LamaLight – 1.5 lbs per sq ft
  • Standard Laminate – 2.5 lbs per sq ft
  • Corian© – 4.25 lbs per sq ft

So if you have 20 square feet of tabletop space, your total dinette tabletop weight would be:

  • LamaLight – 30 lbs
  • Laminated hardwood – 50 lbs
  • Corian© – 85 lbs

Let’s compare weights of typical materials used for dinette tabletops in an RV, Camper or Trailer.

* Weights are based on industry standards and may vary

How Much Does A Replacement Lama-Light Dining Table Cost?

The cost of LamaLight RV dining tables will vary depending on color, shape and edge detail. However, it is surprisingly affordable compared to laminate and Corian© RV and Camper replacement dinette table tops. LamaLight dinette table tops offer an inexpensive, lightweight value, although laminate dinette table tops are the least expensive.

Final Thoughts About the Best Lightweight Dinette Table Replacement

Whether it’s your RV, Camper, Trailer, Boat, or other area that needs new table tops with reduced weight, we think you’ll agree that LamaLight is the perfect choice for your dinette or dining top replacement—especially if it doubles as a bed.

LamaLight dining tabletop replacements offer the perfect combination of strength, durability, and usability without the weight of your old laminate tabletop. They are also waterproof, making them ideal for an RV outdoor kitchen table.

LamaLight is produced by American Stonecast Products, Inc . It is also used to make RV tables, countertops, sink covers and more. We installed a Lamalight dinette top in our RV. Check out the video below!

I appreciate you sharing this blog.Much thanks again.

I need an RV dinette table, 36″x28″ with a single leg. Lamalite or laminate. Surface mount on table and floor. The standard 30″ wide tables won’t work in my dining area. I have two 36 inch booths but the space between them is only 28″. What can you offer me.

Great article and is exactly what I’m looking for to replace table in our Travel Trailer. Do you buy this product directly from American Stonecast Products or is there a reseller to contact. I don’t see much on their site so wondering how you contacted and worked with them. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Hi Stan, I just went to their contact page and sent them my request and one of their salesmen called me. I also worked directly with the shop manager to make sure all the measurements were correct. here’s the link! http://www.rv-sinks.com/contact-us/ Let me know how you make out! Mike

Thanks Mike. I left a message yesterday but not my phone number just email. I’ll try again and leave a number. Hopefully I’ll get a call as you did. This is the answer to my issue with the table. Thanks so much for the response and information.

So I read your article And I need to replace my table top in my RV and where do I go about finding this laminated table top and my table turns into bedAnd it’s strong enough to hold maybe 1 to 2 people

Very nice article, exactly what I was looking for.

An impressive share! I have just forwarded this onto a friend who had been doing a little homework on this. And he in fact bought me lunch simply because I discovered it for him… lol. So let me reword this…. Thank YOU for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending the time to talk about this subject here on your internet site.

Hi Clarice! I’m glad you found the article and shared it with your friend and even got a free lunch out of it too! I hope you have a Happy Holiday! Mike

12 Best Travel Trailers With Rear Kitchens: 2024 Models

travel trailer kitchen tables

Sharing is caring!

As you know, we conduct thousands of RV tours and reviews each year. In this article, we will share our unique perspective on the best travel trailers with rear kitchens.

Travel trailers with rear kitchens, unlike the typical RV that has a kitchen somewhere around the middle of the RV, offer a dedicated kitchen space. Mid kitchens usually share a space with the living room which often means the kitchen is limited in space.

There are a variety of travel trailers with rear kitchens available on the market. These are often able to provide more kitchen space as well as many other benefits.

In this article, we’ll take a deep dive into rear kitchens and their advantages. Then, we’ll provide you with 12 of the best travel trailers with rear kitchens on the market right now.

Do Travel Trailers Have Rear Kitchens?

Most RVs have a mid-kitchen floor plan. In other words, the kitchen is found more or less in the middle of the RV, usually in the same space as the living area. But, that doesn’t mean all RV’s have that floorplan.

In fact, plenty of camper trailers have rear kitchens. While it’s not as common as a mid-kitchen floor plan, it’s not hard to find either. You won’t have to search too much if you’re looking for a travel trailer with a large kitchen in the rear.

They aren’t all large travel trailers, either. Some manufacturers offer rear kitchens in some pretty small travel trailers. Although these shorter models don’t have huge kitchens, it still opens up the floor plan.

Advantages Of Travel Trailers With Rear Kitchens

Advantages Of A Rear Kitchen RV

So we’ve seen that travel trailers can have rear kitchens. But what exactly is the advantage of a rear kitchen RV?

For one, it gives the kitchen a dedicated space. That means it often has more countertop space, resulting in a travel trailer with a larger kitchen.

Some rear kitchens also have a breakfast bar facing the living area. This gives you extra space to eat, watch TV, and relax.

Another advantage to a rear kitchen is that it gives you a larger, more open living space. This, combined with more kitchen space, is absolutely perfect if you enjoy entertaining or are traveling with a large group.

12 Best Travel Trailers With Rear Kitchens

As mentioned, rear kitchen travel trailers are more common than you perhaps thought. My opinion is that the rear kitchen floor plans have a more residential home feel. The dedicated kitchen space and living area well well-suited for most.

Let’s look at the 12 best travel trailers with rear kitchens you’re sure to love!

Do RV Kitchens Have Ovens?

Do RV Kitchens Have Ovens?

Having an oven in your kitchen is a huge convenience that expands your options for what you can cook. But if you get a travel trailer with a large rear kitchen, does that mean it will have an oven? The answer is, not always. While many travel trailers do include an oven, including many on our list, it doesn’t always come standard. However, it is often available as an optional add-on.

Keep in mind, though, that this isn’t likely to be as big as an oven in a traditional home. Instead, these are small ovens, which are best for cooking for 2 or 3 people.

Are Outdoor RV Kitchens Worth It?

Many RV’s have an outdoor kitchen, usually in addition to the interior kitchen. Outdoor kitchens can be a great feature, but you have to consider if it’s right for you.

You’ll sacrifice storage space in exchange if you get an RV with an outdoor kitchen. This could become an issue if you tend to travel with a lot of stuff. You’ll have to consider if it’s worth the trade-off. If you like to entertain and spend a lot of time outside or love tailgating, an outdoor kitchen can be a great option. But, if you love to cook elaborate meals, you likely won’t love using an outdoor kitchen, which is small and usually limited to just a mini fridge, a griddle, and a sink.

Final Thoughts About Travel Trailers With Rear Kitchens

A travel trailer with a large rear kitchen will provide you with more counter space and more room to cook, as well as provide more separation between the kitchen and living areas.

While they’re not as common as mid-RV kitchens, there are still plenty of great options, including the ones on our list. Once you’re in your new travel trailer with its spacious rear kitchen, you’ll be able to cook better than ever!

A console table with storage keeps the top clear

Many of the console table designs at IKEA feature storage elements that help keep the top of the table clear. This is especially important if your sofa table is a main focal point in the room, or you simply want to reserve the top for displaying home decor elements, such as framed photos , vases and potted plants . Or perhaps you want to keep the surface free so you can toss your mail and gloves on top without a care, or to use it as a catch-all for mobile phones, remote controls and car keys.

Whatever the case, choose a console table with storage drawers, cubbies or simply a second shelf to keep all your things neat and organized.

An entryway table can streamline your mornings and nights

A variation of the same conversation occurs in countless homes across the world every day of the week. One person often loudly asks, “Has anyone seen my keys?” And another—or several —voices respond with, “Where did you leave them?” The questioner may respond with, “If I knew, I wouldn’t be asking,” or they may begin the blame game, claiming that someone moved them from where they left them.

This will likely all occur within a matter of seconds, but can have a lasting impact on the mood that everyone leaves the house in once those keys are found. And an entryway table can stop the endless searching, yelling and harrumphing once and for all!

Keep all the must-grab items for your day on the entryway table where they can easily be dropped once you return for the day. This might include your house and car keys, sunglasses and wallet. Not only will this help you in making a habit of keeping essentials handy, but you and your family will also know where they are if someone needs to move your car or borrow lunch money.

Reviving classic Russian cuisine

Oct 19 2018.

Roads & Kingdoms talks to Russian chef Vladimir Mukhin of Moscow’s super-restaurant, White Rabbit.

Still in his mid-30’s, Vladimir Mukhin is already one of Russia’s best known chefs and the leading culinary light of the White Rabbit Group, which has 16 restaurants around the country. The most well-known of these, Moscow’s  White Rabbit , was named one of the 50 best restaurants in the world last year. Roads & Kingdoms’ Nathan Thornburgh talked to Mukhin in Moscow about being a fifth-generation chef, reviving classic Russian cuisine, and finding good product in the age of embargoes.

Nathan Thornburgh: Tell me about White Rabbit, what is the food? What are you trying to accomplish there?

Vladimir Mukhin: The White Rabbit is a big restaurant. We’re trying to revive Russian cuisine. I’m a fifth-generation chef, so I’m passionate about the food we create. During the Soviet Union period, we killed Russian food. Classic Russian recipes became too simplified. For example, usually you drink tea, but if you want to be, just to be creative, want to make the tea with milk, you can’t. It would be like stealing milk from the government. People went to jail.

When I was growing up, I remember my grandfather coming to the kitchen and crying because he couldn’t experiment with his food.

Thornburgh: Wow. I remember this famous photo session with Che Guevara which came up with some of his best pictures, maybe two incredible iconic portraits came from an entire roll of film, and the photographer went to him and showed him this roll of film and Che said, What the hell are you doing? You wasted all of these images. You took 30 pictures to get one? That’s the government’s film. It’s a similar mentality.   So you’re telling the story of a kind of cuisine that was lost on the Soviet history and now you’re playing with this idea of finding it again. What does your process look like? Do you get as many grandmothers as you can round up and just kind of shake recipes out of them? How were you doing this?

Mukhin: I just try to work with as many local farmers and producers as I can, so we can use as many Russian ingredients as we can.

Thornburgh: So this is a close relationship.

Mukhin: Yes. I traveled throughout Russia—not just the big cities, but also the villages to talk with older people.

Thornburgh: You know I think people don’t understand the vastness of Russia, and how big it’s collection of cultures and languages and cuisines is. What parts of the country influences your food?

Mukhin: I’m inspired by the whole country. It’s a big territory, and sometimes it feels like it’s too big. I try and use different techniques and ingredients from all over the country, which I think makes my menus distinct.

We have an a la carte menu with about 50 dishes of classical Russian food. Everything looks modern because I’m a young chef. But if you close your eyes and try these dishes, you’ll taste 100% classic Russian flavors.

I want to highlight all aspects of Russian cuisine. Before the Olympic Games in Sochi, we opened a restaurant there, not just to make money, but to expose people visiting for the Olympics to Russian food. That’s why we opened The Red Fox restaurant. It’s all about Russian ingredients.

Thornburgh: Sochi, at least when I’ve been there, is like a Miami Beach. It’s like a place to get pizza and sushi, and go to the nightclubs.

Mukhin: You been?

Thornburgh: Yeah.

Mukhin: It’s crazy.

Thornburgh: It’s a little crazy, but it’s interesting to bring in Red Fox and sort of say okay, because people are coming out, let’s bring Russia to Sochi.

Mukhin: It was incredible. We had thousands of visitors at the restaurant.

Thornburgh: So you really looked internally for inspiration. Did working outside of Russia motivate you to focus on Russian cuisine?

Mukhin: Yes. I spent time working in Avignon, France. I worked with Christian Etienne, and he would make a special Russian meal once a year.  It was crazy.

travel trailer kitchen tables

Thornburgh: How was the food?

Mukhin: It was shit. I told him that I would cook real Russian food for him, and I did. I cooked borscht, blinis, and other classics. He liked it and said that once a year we should use my recipes, but with his influence. I agreed, and we went on to make amazing food. Eventually, I wanted to come back to my motherland. So I left and I started working on making White Rabbit a reality.

Thornburgh: When people go to White Rabbit, what are they going to find?

Mukhin: Someone once told me that there is a new Russian cuisine and an old Russian cuisine. I think Russian cuisine is going through an evolution. So I hope people will come and see evolution at White Rabbit.

Thornburgh: Great. Always good to end on an invite. Thank you.

Mukhin: Thank you so much.
