During the first two weeks of April, this spring, my wife and I went to Morocco on a GVG tour. Morocco is a very diverse country both in its people and its land. Gene is a very knowledgeable leader and was very helpful to me as an older senior. We have been with Gene on several tours, and this one may have been the best.
- James H, 2019
Just returned from Maine hiking the Appalachian Trail after my first GVG trip and won't be my last. Everything I expected and more. Gene and the other guide anticipated all details and organized a wonderful trip so all I had to worry about was enjoying the beautiful scenery and hike. Already looking at other trips on the 2020 schedule.
- Dan S, 2019
We joined Gene on the Baltic Sea cruise tour August 22-Sept. 4th. This was our first trip out of the country, other than Mexico, and I was very impressed with the amount of time and effort both Gene and Christina put into making sure all of us had a wonderful trip. We had a few hiccups along the way, but that is what makes travel exciting right! The ports were wonderful and we got to see places I have only dreamed of seeing. We are looking forward to our next "adventure" with GVG tours!! Thank you Gene and Christina!!
- Peggy S, 2019
We just returned from our 2019 Tanzania vacation with Gene. This was really a wonderful vacation. We saw so many animals in their natural environment every day. It seems every day was better than the previous day. Our favorite: elephants playing in a pond, splashing each other and two playful youngsters not wanting to leave when the matriarch said it was time to go. We checked off almost every animal from our map of 50 animals to see in Africa. All up close and personal. Fantastic! You need to do it!
- Larry H , 2019
We had a wonderful trip to Italy in October!! The weather was fabulous (except for the last night in Rome). So glad we made the trip!! I enjoyed learning about the horse races in Sienna, and actually seeing Pompeii - it was a large city!! I was impressed with the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial. I did not realize that there were American soldiers buried over there. It was very inspiring. All the local guides were very knowledgeable and it was good to have Sabina with us for the whole trip.
-Phyllis B, 2018
My brother, three friends and myself enjoyed immensely a recent Canadian Rockies / Glacial National Park tour. Our Canadian bus driver even secured beer for a pizza party. An extra touch appreciated by all. Gene is a great tour guide. Our only disappointment was the final score of the Bear Packer football game.
-Bob N, 2018
My wife and I just completed a fabulous tour of Italy with Gene. He goes above and beyond to make sure everybody enjoys their experience. He is with you the entire trip. Our trip covered all of the important tourist spots in Italy plus some add ons. I would highly recommend this trip and especially GVG tours. The group of people on this tour was phenomenal.
-Dan M, 2018
My husband Jim & I traveled to Ireland in October. We had a fabulous time. Beautiful scenery, fascinating history, lovely people. We appreciated how well the travel details were taken care of so we could relax & enjoy every minute of our time on the Emerald Isle.
-Katheryn R, 2018
Ireland trip was fantastic! The bus driver/ tour guide,Mickey , and Gene, each gave a tremendous amount of information on history, stories about fairies and leprechauns, Celtic stories and so much more. I want to go again!

Metro tour – daily
Palaces for ordinary people – that was what Stalin promised to the people when the construction of the Moscow Metro began between the World Wars. The communist dictator hadn’t promised too much. No other underground system in the world can boast such spectacular architecture – chandeliers, decorations, stucco, paintings on the walls – each station is individually designed. No wonder that Moscow residents love their metro. I will guide you through the bustle of one of the busiest subways in the world and show you the most beautiful stations Moscow city has.

Tour of Communist Moscow – every day
After the Communist October Revolution in 1918, Moscow became the capital of the Soviet Empire and was the center of socialist orbit for more than 70 years. This left its mark on Moscow, even if the USSR disintegrated more than a quarter of a century ago. The city streets are full of remnants of the communist regime and the Cold War. This is a walking tour where I will show you the most exciting places in Soviet Moscow: from the notorious KGB headquarters, also known as Lubyanka to the Karl Marx Monument to small hidden remains from the time of hammer and sickle. You will also learn about Stalin’s Great Terror political campaign and the system of the GULAG and how the USSR, the communist Russian republic, became modern Russia.
Time: by arrangement, daily Duration: 2 hours Price: 21 $ Students and children: 17 $ Language: English Included in the price: the guided tour
Alternative Moscow Tour – daily
Explore the unseen Moscow with your Moscow private guide and discover a range of sights during this alternative walking tour. Away from the main tourist spots (in the central district of Kitay-Gorod), just a short walk from Red Square and St. Basil’s Cathedral, you suddenly find yourself in one of the trendiest districts of Moscow. This place not only has trendy cafes and green squares, but here you can see the most beautiful spray works (according to Albrecht Dürer), hangout-places of the youth and hipsters, as well as learn what Moscow looked like in the 19th century. Here you will also learn exciting and even bloody stories about famous gangsters, eccentric business people and legends like the wandering preacher Rasputin, who is known in Russia either as the “holy devil” or the mad monk. To learn a little more about Moscow’s culture, this is the tour for you. On my alternative tour, you will get to know Moscow away from the tourist hotspots. This tour is of 2 hours duration and you will experience the following on the tour:
- St. John’s Hill, a quiet oasis right in the center, where time has stopped as it did in pre-Communist times
- Khokhlovka Art Center, where Russian hipsters and street artists hang out
- Samoskvorechye District where you can see beautiful streets and hear stories from old Moscow

Kremlin tour – daily (closed on Thursday)
With its 20 towers and high walls, the Kremlin rises imposingly over Red Square. This world-famous fortress with its area of 28 hectares is home to over 800 years of Russian history. Described as the eighth wonder of the world, this historic fortress complex is the principal symbol of Russia that sits on the banks of the Moscow River. Today the Kremlin still harbors numerous secrets and has palaces and cathedrals, surrounded by Kremlin Wall. The current wall was constructed between the 15 th and 16 th centuries, but the original wall was made of wood around the year 1147. The Kremlin Wall became an important symbol of Moscow’s importance in the Russian Empire. This top tourist destination attracts millions of people every year and there are various sights to see. With my Kremlin tour, you will see the oldest square in the city in the heart of the Kremlin, the once largest cannon in the world and the scene of numerous dramas – from Ivan the Terrible and Napoleon to Stalin. Each spring, Holland, Michigan commemorates its Dutch heritage as surrounding fields are ablaze with colorful tulips. Travel with Lamers to our neighboring state this May to experience Earth as it rejuvinates at the annual Tulip Time Festival. You will step back into the Netherlands of over 100 years ago at the recreation of a Dutch Village, watch as a craftsman carves real wood shoes and enjoy Dutch dancing, great food, drink and shopping during this three-day jaunt.
**Due to low supply of king bed rooms, all hotel rooms on this tour feature two queen beds. Deadline for reservations is April 3, 2024.
Today we can't wait to experience this fun annual event as we make our way through Illinois, Indiana and into Michigan, skirting the shores of Lake Michigan as we go. We first visit Dutch Village, a reconstruction of a village back in the old country. Dinner is included this evening. We overnight at the Holiday Inn Express in Holland.
This morning, we are formally introduced to this lovely community as a local guide joins us for a narrated sightseeing drive. We will learn of its Dutch heritage and view lovely tulip lanes as we meander. This afternoon, marvel at the expansive beauty of Veldheer Tulip Gardens. Here you will see many unusual varieties of tulip bulbs and even have an opportunity to order them for planting back home. Talk with the craftsmen as they carve the national shoe at De Klomp's Wooden Shoe Factory. Don't be shy about trying a pair on! Enjoy watching skilled artist's hand-paint the famous blue and white delftware just as it was produced in the Netherlands. We finish our day with a visit to Windmill Island where we can inspect the 200-year-old De Zwaan working windmill. Enjoy the beauty of thousands of tulips planted on the grounds and along the dikes just like you would see in the Old World.
Our final day is here, and travel begins to retrace our route home, but with one last fun stop. Experience an exhilarating ride among the sand dunes in Saugatuck. Huge dunes formed on the eastern side of Lake Michigan, and we get to take a ride up and down and over these beauties of our natural world. On the final leg of our travels, reflect on our fun-filled tour of the annual Holland Tulip Fest!

Vanderbilt standout Gordon Sargent elects to return for senior season
With a TOUR card secured for June 2025, Sargent stays at Vanderbilt for his final season, deferring his Accelerated performance benefits
Change Text Size
Gordon Sargent is ready for one more ride.
The standout Vanderbilt junior announced Thursday that he will return to Vanderbilt for his senior season, deferring his performance benefits from eclipsing the PGA TOUR University Accelerated 20-point threshold.
Sargent was eligible to accept PGA TOUR membership this June but will wait until he turns professional in June 2025. He will then have exempt TOUR membership through the 2026 PGA TOUR season.
"I am excited to announce that I’ll be returning to Vanderbilt for my senior year in 2024-25,” said Sargent. “It’s been an honor to represent this university alongside my teammates and coaches, and I look forward to continuing to compete - and further my education - at this amazing place that has given so much to me.”
Sargent is the first player to earn TOUR membership via PGA TOUR University Accelerated, and he’s the first to earn a TOUR card on collegiate merit prior to his senior year.
In an exclusive interview with PGATOUR.COM, Sargent explained why he decided to stay, where he can still improve, and what he’s learned from Nick Dunlap.
“Being with my teammates, traveling to some great places–it's one of those situations where you kind of never want to leave.”
Gordon Sargent
Editor’s note: This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
PGATOUR.COM: Take us through the timeline of how you decided to stay at Vandy another year. You crossed the threshold for PGA TOUR Accelerated, and then…
SARGENT: I got (to 20 points) in October in Abu Dhabi (at the World Amateur Team Championships) and then reviewed my options over the offseason. I was kind of hoping a decision would come clear, and obviously, nothing's just going to. There's not going to be a perfect answer. After playing a few college events in the spring, I think you really appreciate how much you enjoy college golf. I've talked to Nick (Dunlap) a little bit since he's turned pro, and it's one of those things where you're only going to have four years in college. My dream is playing on the PGA TOUR. With having the same status if I come back to school for one year, it was kind of a no-brainer. I can still take advantage of another year of school, be with my teammates, get my degree and continue to get better.
If you talk to anybody who's played college golf, they really do say it's the best time of your life. I definitely valued that. I don't think anybody was going to be mad at me if I left or mad at me if I stayed. But after reviewing with my parents, coaches and team-wise, it just seemed like it was the best thing for me. I could stay in Nashville and continue to get better. And I mean, obviously, it worked for Ludvig (Åberg), him staying all four years. It kind of seemed like one of those decisions where with how competitive college golf is, you're kind of prepping for the PGA TOUR in college and I feel like having another year definitely would not hurt.
PGATOUR.COM: What advice did Nick Dunlap give you?
SARGENT: Obviously after him winning, he's playing well, it’s a no-brainer to take advantage of those (2024) Signature Events. Obviously, the adaption was going to be tough, I mean it’s the next day, he's a PGA TOUR pro and I can tell you a week before he probably wasn't necessarily thinking that. So even with me being able to plan for however many months, it still kind of seemed like, personally, I just wanted to have another year to just continue to develop. I feel like I can get the most out of the prep. Nick started to play a little bit better recently, he played well in Houston, but in talking to him, he definitely misses college a little bit, hanging out with teammates and stuff. Pro golf is definitely a different animal. So yeah, I mean we didn't necessarily talk a ton about that. He definitely loves the situation he's in, but I think anyone you talk to on the PGA TOUR would say the more time you have to prep before you get to the PGA TOUR, then the better off you're going to be.
PGATOUR.COM Sounds like you basically said, “Hey, things are moving fast, I would like to slow down for one more year.”
SARGENT: For sure. I would have good status if I turned pro this June and it was one of those decisions where it's like, is there a right or a wrong answer? Probably not. But I have been a planner my whole life, so it's nice to–I can plan that I have one more year and turn pro next June. I continue to have that freedom of getting better, being with my teammates and then the decision's already made. It just seemed like everything fit the mold more perfectly when it came to staying another year, continuing to develop and trying to almost use it as a “TOUR” year, trying new things, trying to be a pro golfer in college, which I feel like is definitely possible with how good college golf is now.
For me, it’s trying to make the transition that much smoother. I feel like watching Ludvig, you can tell it's not like he's trying to learn courses and learn how to be a PGA TOUR player. I feel like he did a really good job of his senior year, playing it like a “TOUR” year and then when he came out on TOUR, you could tell he was ready.
PGATOUR.COM: You played the Masters, a couple of TOUR events – are there areas of your game that you’d still like to refine before you start full-time on TOUR?
SARGENT: The bad shots, where they end up, is the biggest thing when you watch a PGA TOUR player when they're on. Their misses are in better spots. So just continuing to develop consistency–Scottie Scheffler was a great example of playing boring golf, right? He's not doing anything crazy, not doing anything stupid. You can do that in college golf. I mean, is it going to be as fun? Maybe not, but just kind of seeing and making slow progress. Even this spring, (I) feel like I haven't played very well in the first couple events, but I felt like I matured and found ways to hit different shots and had the freedom to work on things that I know that I'll need.
I feel like that's one of the real big benefits in college is that, every single week on the PGA TOUR you're trying to win. As a college program, we have had our eyes on the NCAAs all year, but if we have to take a step back at one tournament, I don't think it's too big of a deal – just being able to have the freedom to work on things. Being with my teammates, traveling to some great places–it's one of those situations where you kind of never want to leave.
PGATOUR.COM: Did you feel pressure – external or internal – to turn professional now?
SARGENT: I think from people who've never played college golf, who don't understand the situation that college golfers are in, where it's the best time in their lives. I didn't love the idea of not knowing what the next couple of months held, so I may have put a little bit of pressure on myself. I was trying to make a decision, but I figured, get through the first few events in the spring and it'll kind of unfold itself. I just came to the point where everyone around me decided staying was a good option, and if pro golf is always going to be there and you can have another year to get some reps under your belt, I feel like it's really beneficial.
PGATOUR.COM: What’s the one thing you’re looking forward to over the next year now that you know you’re staying in college?
SARGENT: Being on a new team is always fun. I think being a senior will be cool, too, just kind of being one of the leaders. Obviously, Jackson (Van Paris) and I will be the two seniors, so it'll be nice to be one of the guys on the team that everyone looks up to. It'll be cool next year when we have some younger guys, we can as seniors go to take some freshmen, sophomores under our belt and see how good we can get. I think there were a lot of expectations this year and we're looking forward to the postseason, but I think just staying another year, being a senior, enjoying the college life and while also knowing, I mean knowing there's a PGA TOUR card still waiting for you, it gives you a lot of freedom if you need to make some changes. Then off the golf course, just continue to mature as a person and just better prepare myself for the future.
