How to Choose Between Different 3-day Whitsunday Cruises

So, you’re looking at a range of 3-day Whitsunday cruises, but there are so many options, you don’t know where to start. Well let’s break it down and make it easy! There are different types of 3-day cruises to consider. By breaking down your options, it will become much clearer which cruise is the one for you!

The most important factor to break down is the actual duration of the 3-day Whitsunday cruises you’re deciding between, and what you really want. There are a few different trip durations that could fall under a ‘3-day’ cruise.

2 Day 2 Night

For example, and most commonly referred to as ‘2 day 2 night’ trips, these actually span over 3 days. The massive advantage of these cruises means travel to and from the Whitsundays can be included in the 3 days! This is hugely beneficial if you have exactly 3 days to get to the Whitsundays and get out on the water and back. Trips of this duration usually depart at around 2pm, giving you ample time in the morning to arrive promptly for the cruise. Similarly, these tours also return on the third day at around 11am, giving you the remainder of the day to plan your return.

Tours of this duration still provide you with the opportunity to completely relax and allow your brain to switch off. Further to that, you’ll have two chances to watch the glorious Whitsunday sunset and sunrise, and gaze at a stunning star filled night sky. There are many vessels which offer this cruise duration, which all range in style, keep reading to find out about the different styles!

With a more relaxed time frame, more options do become available. Longer duration trips, such as the 3 day and 2 night trip aboard Whitsunday Bliss. This still falls into the 3-day timeframe, however, the start time and return time are extended to make more use of the three days.

Then, there is a 3 day 3 night cruise, which actually spans across 4 days. Similarly, to the 2 day 2 night trips mentioned before, this duration departs the marina at 15pm and returns at 12pm on the fourth day. Once again allowing plenty of time on the arrival and return days to travel to and from the Whitsundays. This particular duration runs only on Whitsunday Blue, once a week and gives the most time out on the water of any scheduled trips!

Other Considerations

Other factors that will affect your choice of cruise include the style of trip you desire. Preferred accommodation style, activities available onboard the boat, food and price will all come into play. Most importantly the kind of trip you’re looking for and who you’re travelling with will play a huge role. Travelling to the Whitsundays as a romantic getaway for you and a loved one is going to affect your choice compared with a solo traveller looking to create new friendships!

Wake up in the morning to the stunning island scenery surrounding the boat and enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board. Sail down to tongue bay to make your way up to Hill Inlet Lookout and take in the stunning vista of the world-famous Whitehaven Beach. Spend some time exploring the beach itself before coming back on board for lunch on the go. Watching the beautiful scenery change as you sail north.

Jump into the delightful water for a swim and snorkel over the beautiful coral reefs teeming with bright colourful fish. If you’re lucky, spot a turtle or meet George the Maori-Wrasse! If there’s time, possibly go for another beach visit or snorkel before sharing an antipasto platter while you watch the sunset.

Dinner under the stars once again as you wind down for the evening. In the morning enjoy another stunning vista with breakfast on the deck. Maybe jump in for a cheeky swim before setting sail for the mainland.

You can bring you own alcohol as this vessel is not licensed. Please no glass bottles or red wine. Adventurer is BYO which is great, so pick up a few bottles of wonderful Australian wine to enjoy under the stars in the evening

Please pack in a small soft sided bag. No hard/suitcases or large backpacks. We do not have luggage storage. Cabins on our Whitsundays sailing boats are pretty compact- so take as little as you possibly can on board. You can store luggage at your hotel or hostel in Airlie Beach. In a cabin baggage size bag bring; enough clothes for the duration of your trip, swimwear, a towel, light footwear such as flip-flips/thongs or slides, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and camera.

Check in by 7.00pm the day prior day of departure at Shop 1, 4 Airlie Esplanade, Airlie Beach, Queensland, Australia. Tour departs the Coral Sea Marina Resort at 3pm.

There are luggage storage facilities in Airlie Beach or you may be able to store your luggage at your hotel or accommodation.

We provide a mask, snorkel and stinger suit for every person on the trip included in the price. We do not provide fins. We do provide life jackets, and other flotation devices on request if needed. All our tours are eco-certified, and for us to keep in line with the regulations set out by this certification, we do everything we can to limit the amount of damage to the coral. We found, through years of experience, that giving people fins drastically increased the damage occurring to the coral. A stinger suit is a thin wetsuit appropriate for the warmer water here in the Whitsundays. They are designed to help protect you against stingers and from the sun while you snorkel.

All meals and snacks are included for the duration of your trip. Our crew freshly prepares each meal for you to enjoy using locally sourced, seasonal fruits and vegetables. Usually served buffet style; you can choose to eat anywhere onboard. Meals are a great communal time to get to know your fellow travellers.

A typical menu includes continental-style breakfasts, a filling lunch made up of build-your-own rolls, and two different salads plus accompaniments. Two delicious and hearty dinners, usually home-cooked style meals with salads and side dishes.

There will be snacks and afternoon nibbles, and tea and coffee available throughout the trip.

There is no set itinerary for this tour. Each trip will be planned around the weather conditions, tides and the groups desires. Below is a list of what we could offer and where we could go. Please note that we will always visit Whitehaven Beach, Hill Inlet Lookout, multiple snorkelling locations, bush-walk and of course do some sailing!

This tour departs Coral Sea Marina, Airlie Beach at 10am and returns on the last day at approximately 3:30pm. Straight after your tour, keep the adventure alive and meet your crew and fellow passengers for a catch up at the after-party in Airlie Beach – we have a reserved table, drink discounts and meal deals!

Please meet at 9:30am (30 minutes before your departure time of 10am) @ Coral Sea Marina, Southern End, MEETING POINT C, under the white umbrellas next to Whitsunday JetSki Tours.   

What to Pack Please pack in a soft small bag (no suitcases or bags with wheels please).  We suggest swimmers, towel(s), sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses, hat, spray jacket, sweater (in the cooler months), sandals/joggers/thongs for island walk, toiletries, and any prescribed medicines.  There are no shops around the islands, so please pick up important items or treats before arriving at the marina.

Drinks These vessels are BYO vessels, this means you are able to bring your own alcohol onto the tour (no glass or red wine please). Filtered drinking water is included throughout your tour so please bring a bottle to refill as much as you like (and save on bottled water waste). We do have soft drinks available for purchase on board. The crew will keep a tab and you can pay at the end of your tour.

Inexperienced Swimmers/Snorkellers Don’t worry, we supply additional floatation if required.  We will do a risk assessment on every guest before entering the water.  While in the water the small tender will be relatively close by.  We also have staff on look-out duty.  In the Whitsundays, the reefs we visit are off the beaches, so it is pretty easy to make way to the beach.

Large Luggage

Large bags and suitcases cannot be taken on-board. Storage services are available at most accommodation locations or at the Red Cat Adventures office in the main street of Airlie Beach for a small fee

• Camera, GoPro, phone (mainly just for photos as you won't get much reception out there).
• We provide snorkelling equipment (mask, snorkel & suit) however, feel free to bring your own if you prefer. To protect the reef we do not provide fins, however, please feel free to bring your own if you are experienced in the water using fins.

• Cruise is predominately suited to 18-35 year olds
• Departures and itineraries are subject to weather conditions. Since this is an extremely popular tour, groups of over 6 guests are recommended to book 3-6 months in advance.

Cancellations made less than 7 days before departure will result in complete forfeiture of the full price. Cancellations made outside of 7 days before departure will only incur a $35 per person admin & booking fee.  Any date changes can be accepted without a fee up to 7 days prior to departure.  Please note that the 7 day cancellation policy will always be calculated from original departure date.

Prosail will offer other options, a credit or refund for any cancelled departures due to low numbers or unsafe weather.

All prices are per person in AUD and include GST, National Park and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park entry fees, professional skipper and deck hands, live aboard accommodation, all meals, fresh linen, use of snorkelling equipment and snorkel suits.  Prices do not include airfares or transfers to and from the marina, accommodation pre or post tour or extras.

We have no age limit, however you must be ‘young at heart’, fit and able to move about a boat unassisted and understand the adventurous and social nature of our tours.

Prosail shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or for any injury to person or property which is suffered or sustained by any passenger as a result of participating in any of its sailing adventures, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.

If you choose to leave a Prosail tour at any stage of your own choice, Prosail will no longer be held accountable for your persons or belongings.

When making payment for your private charter it must be only done directly by the primary charter booker in two instalments: *Your deposit to secure your vessel and dates (non-refundable, however can be used as a credit if you need to cancel); and *The remaining balance with finalised numbers at least 30 days prior to charter.

Excess luggage can be stored at several places in town including most boat check-in offices, a 24-hour locker shop on The Esplanade, most hostels, or at your accommodation. Most charge between $5-10pp for the duration of your trip.

The Service Operator reserves the right to alter prices and extra costs. Extra costs may include EMC fees, Stingersuit/Wetsuit Hire, Luggage Storage, Insurance, Linen Hire, National Park Fees, Fuel Levies, Dietary Fees, etc. Bonds may also apply.

We will also endeavour to communicate these extra costs with you at the time of booking, and on your ticket. However, it is your responsibility to confirm which (if any) additional costs apply with each Service Operator upon reconfirming your trip.

Travel Risk/Insurance:

It should be noted that adventure travel involves risk. Whilst we make every effort to safeguard clients, we cannot be responsible for personal injury or loss due to the actions of our clients which are beyond our control. We highly recommend that all clients have travel insurance covering illness, injury, loss or damage to personal belongings and not being able to travel on the confirmed date of departure. You should also ensure your travel insurance will cover special circumstances including weather events preventing guests from travelling to their tour departure destination and cancelled flights due to unforeseen circumstances.

Please be aware operators pass on credit card merchant fees so there is a non-refundable 1% surcharge for VISA and MASTERCARD card purchases.

Cancellation Policy

Client cancellations:.

All cancellations forfeit 25% of the recommended retail price (RRP) - not the discounted/sale price. Cancellations made 60-30 days prior to travel date forfeit 50% of the RRP. No shows or client cancellations made within 30 days of departure forfeit 100% of the total ticket price.

It is compulsory that all cancellation requests are in writing and sent via email to [email protected]. Cancellations attempted via online chat or phone will not be actioned.

Supplier Cancellations:

The Service Operator reserves the right to alter prices, alter itineraries, apply a fuel surcharge, cancel departures, arrange alternative transport and vary itineraries and services if necessary.

All departures and itineraries are subject to weather. Tours may be changed or cancelled for any reason at the discretion of the Service Operator. If the Service Operator has to cancel the trip or activity (prior to departure) and we cannot offer a suitable alternative, then a refund will be given minus a 20% administration fee and any associated card fees. We strongly recommend that you have travel insurance, especially during the wet season.

In the unlikely event of your trip being cancelled or stood down, all guest communication is required to go through our Online Store via telephone or email. While there is a Sailing Whitsundays retail outlet located at Airlie Beach, please be aware that they operate as a separate entity and are unable to access reservations made by the Mr Travel online department.

All refunds are in Australian Dollars and must be made to the card of payment. Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel is not liable for exchange rate fluctuations or fees, or any other merchant/bank fees associated with domestic and/or international transactions.

Where a full refund is applicable, there is the option to transfer the whole cost of the tour to another tour or “Credit” to avoid the administration fee. A transfer fee of $20 will apply.

You will be emailed confirmation once the refund has been processed. Once the refund has been processed, it may still take time for the banks to clear the amount. Please allow 7-10 business days for the funds to clear into Australian accounts and up to 21 business days for international accounts.

Accountability/Misconduct:

All Service Operators have the right to provide client feedback and to cancel bookings based on feedback from other Service Operators.

“My wife had heard about the three day three night sail on the Whitsunday Blue from family who had experienced the sail more than 10 years before. We had high expectations from their comments and these were met by the crew *Dave and Sophie), the food (Sophie was an amazing cook), the sights *can't think of a more beautiful place) and the experiences (great sailing, snorkeling, and exploration of a couple of islands and beaches) We were also blessed to meet and share the experience with three British couples who were the same age as us a pleasure to interact and be with. Dave regaled us with great stories and information about eh area and the country. The snorkeling spots he took us to were awesome and my wife and I have snorklled in many different places in the Caribbean. The boat was reasonably spacious, and a pleasure to be on. We had a great 1/2 day at White Haven Beach. The nights on the boat were also spectacular with dark skies lit up by a great light display each night. The crew provided stinger suits, snorkeling gear and many other items to make out three day adventure great. We were at a time in which rain could be an issue, but we had reasonably calms seas, rain mostly at night and a fantastic experience. We also were the couple that shared the toilet facilities with the crew, but this was not a problem at all as the two of them were very respectful and easy to deal with. Your 3 day 2 night sailing adventure begins promptly at 10:00am from Coral Sea Marina at Airlie Beach to waste no time setting off. Typically you will sail around 90 nautical miles (laymen’s 160kms) around parts of the 74 Whitsunday Islands. Soar across the Whitsunday Passage to Blue Pearl Bay on Hayman Island before skirting the south side of Hook Island, through Hook Passage and on to Cataran Bay on Border Island.

Your senses will be amazed from the morning snorkel but prepare to be astounded by the afternoon activities.

Your friendly crew will sail to the north eastern side of Whitsunday Island for a short guided bushwalk to the popular Hill Inlet Lookout and incredible view of the world-famous Whitehaven Beach. Don’t forget your camera as you won’t want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience! Relax for the evening in a protected anchorage with great food and your new found friends.

In the morning, enjoy an exhilarating MAXI sail along the Eastern coast of Whitsunday Island, through Hook Passage and past the Molle Islands to arrive back in Airlie Beach by the afternoon.

“supplier” means any tour operator or other supplier of the services “you” means the guest booking and person named on this reservation booking “we”, “our” means The Whitsundays Central Reservations Centre and A.J.LAURENT PTY LTD These terms and conditions apply to all bookings made through The Whitsundays Central Reservations Centre. Placing a booking with The Whitsundays Central Reservations Centre and paying a deposit constitute acceptance of these terms and conditions.

Booking Conditions

For bookings made more than 30 days prior to travel, a 25% deposit is due to secure your booking with the balance due 30 days prior to travel. For bookings made within 30 days of travel, the full payment is due immediately to secure your booking. If we do not receive your full payment within 30 days of your travel date and you do not contact us to cancel, your deposit is forfeited and your booking may be automatically cancelled by us, the supplier or both.

Prices are quoted in Australian dollars, inclusive of GST, and all payments must be made in Australian dollars. Your reservation will only be confirmed when funds have been received and are cleared. The Whitsundays Central Reservations Centre is not responsible for delays in postal delivery, bank or payment system processing. It is your responsibility to ensure that payments are received within the times specified. If the deposit or final payment is not received by the due date, The Whitsundays Central Reservations Centre has the right cancel the booking. If your final payment is not paid by the due date and in any event within 30 days of your departure, we have the right to cancel your booking and retain the deposit in full without any reimbursement to cover our costs and those of any supplier.

Cancellations and Amendments to Bookings

If you wish to cancel or amend any booking made you need to contact us in writing. You can only cancel or amend a confirmed booking by contacting us directly. If you do not contact us to cancel prior to your booking departure date, you may forfeit your deposit and further costs.

Cancellation Charges and Amendment Fees

Any cancellation or amendment made more than 30 days before travel will incur an administration fee of 25% of the total booking fee. All cancellations or amendments made within 30 days of your travel date departure will incur both an administration fee of 25% in addition to the individual supplier’s fees. Any changes requested to your booking, including but not limited to dates, are subject to availability and if they are not available, you may be required to cancel and agree to the cancellation terms. IMPORTANT NOTE: Some services and activities may not permit any refund for certain bookings. You should check with the individual supplier or The Whitsundays Central Reservations Centre prior to paying for your booking to confirm any special non-refundable conditions.

Travel Insurance

We recommend that you take out travel insurance to cover your reservation, and valuable items (e.g. cameras). Your travel insurance policy should include coverage to protect against unforeseen and last-minute cancellations or medical conditions that may prevent travel and also to cover any medical emergencies during travel at minimum.

Supplier Tours and Services Changes

In the unlikely case of a vessel break down, maintenance or unavailability, the supplier will supply an alternate vessel of a similar standard and quality. Itineraries may be affected by elements beyond our and the supplier’s control such as wind, tide, rain, storm or other weather conditions which make travel dangerous and require a delay or cancellation. It is the skipper's requirement to ensure passenger safety at all times and may use his/her professional judgment in any manner to keep his/her guests and crew safe. In the instance of such delay or cancellation, alternative options will be provided by the supplier. In the event a cancellation or delay occurs and your tour or service is cancelled and rescheduled, you will receive a full refund if you are unable to rebook your tour or service.

You are using these services and taking any tours at your own risk. We are not responsible for any loss or damage, including direct, indirect or consequential loss you may suffer as a result of your reservation, booking or anything related to your tour or services provided by any supplier. You need to ensure you are medically sound, fit and physically able to use the services. We are not liable for the event that you are refused access to any services or tours due to your medical, physical or other reasons, including intoxication. Any such claims should be addressed to the suppliers directly. You should note that sailing can be a dangerous activity and while crews will make every effort to ensure your safety, they cannot be accountable for actions or injury to you that may be ‘beyond their control’.
