DP World Tour Fantasy game launches with once in a lifetime winner’s prize

The 2023 DP World Tour Fantasy game has launched today in time for the first Rolex Series event of the season next week – the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship – with the 2023 season-long winner set to receive a once-in-a-lifetime prize that turns fantasy into reality.

Whoever finishes in first place will be treated to a trip to the 2024 DP World Tour Championship in Dubai – the season-ending tournament on the DP World Tour schedule. When there, they will receive tickets to watch all the action and receive a private lesson from a top DP World Tour professional on the driving range, hitting balls alongside the world’s best players as they prepare for the tournament. The lucky winner will then take on the challenge of playing the famous Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates the day after the world’s best players have battled it out to win the DP World Tour Championship and the season-long Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex.

The Official DP World Tour Fantasy game allows fans from all over the world to compete against each other in predicting the top six players at each tournament during the season, with weekly prizes on offer. Fans can also challenge family, friends, colleagues or followers by creating their own private or public mini league, or by joining one of the many leagues from local TV broadcasters and DP World Tour partners. Other highlights for 2023 include the launch of the Rolex Series Standings – a separate leader board for the five Rolex Series events with additional prizes on offer.

Format: The Quarter Finals round is a 25-minute online quiz. Quarter Finalists will be asked to answer 15 in depth multiple choice questions. Those who get 13 or more answers correct in the Quarter Finals, will move to the Semi Finals. Attempts: Each participant will get 1 attempt for every successful Qualifier attempt. This means if you don't succeed at the Quarter finals on your first attempt, you can use any other Qualifier attempts to try again. Preparation: For Quarter Finals, the best way to prepare is by completing our courses as well as practising on the ClimateScience Quiz App.

3. Semi-Finals

Format: Finalists receive a complex global problem and they have to write a 3000 word proposal aiming to solve the problem at hand. They then present their solution in a 20 minute presentation judged by world-leading scientists, innovators and policy-makers. Certificate: Every Finalist is awarded a Bronze Medal certificate, the top 20 and top 10 will be awarded a Silver and Gold Medal certificate, respectively. Awards: The top teams will be awarded with a sponsored trip to Dubai, UAE during United Nations Climate Summit, COP28.

Dubai is pumping $35 billion into building what it says will be the world's biggest airport

Dubai wants to build a $35 billion airport with 400 gates and five runways in the next 10 years.

The emirate says the facility's capacity will hit 260 million passengers, the most in the world by far.

It's the centerpiece of the ambitious Dubai South, the emirate's planned city of 1 million people.

Dubai is undertaking a massive expansion of an airport that it plans to be five times the size of its current international hub.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum , the emirate's ruler, said the upgraded Al Maktoum International Airport will feature a capacity of 260 million passengers, the world's largest.

"We are building a new project for future generations, ensuring continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn," Sheikh Mohammed wrote in a post on X . "Dubai will be the world's airport, its port, its urban hub, and its new global center."

By comparison, the world's busiest airport in 2023, the Hartfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, saw 104.6 million passengers that year.

Most international flights now operate out of Dubai International Airport, which some 87 million passengers visited in 2023.

But all operations there will be moved to the Al Maktoum facility, which is expected to host five parallel runways and 400 aircraft gates, Sheikh Mohammed said.

He put the 10-year construction cost at AED 128 billion, or $35 billion, and said the emirate would build "an entire city around the airport" with anticipated housing demands for 1 million people.

The Al Maktoum International Airport, also known as Dubai World Central, was opened in 2010 with one terminal . Like the Dubai International Airport, it has two runways but is used significantly less.

The airport is designed as the centerpiece for Dubai South, a planned economic zone that aims to host a million residents and provide 500,000 jobs across a 55-square-mile area.

The announcement comes as air travel in Dubai returned to pre-pandemic levels, with 17.15 million international overnight visitors in 2023.

Dubai International Airport, the world's busiest for international travel, will move its operations to the city-state's second, sprawling airfield in its southern desert reaches “within the next 10 years” in a project worth nearly $35 billion, its ruler said Sunday.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's announcement marks the latest chapter in the rebound of its long-haul carrier Emirates after the coronavirus pandemic grounded international travel. Plans have been on the books for years to move the operations of the airport known as DXB to Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central which had also been delayed by the repercussions of the sheikhdom's 2009 economic crisis.

“We are building a new project for future generations, ensuring continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn,” Sheikh Mohammed said in an online statement. “Dubai will be the world’s airport, its port, its urban hub and its new global center.”

The announcement included computer-rendered images of curving, white terminal reminiscent of the traditional Bedouin tents of the Arabian Peninsula. The airport will include five parallel runways and 400 aircraft gates, the announcement said. The airport now has just two runways, like Dubai International Airport.

The financial health of the carrier Emirates has served as a barometer for the aviation industry worldwide and the wider economic health of this city-state. Dubai and the airline rebounded quickly from the pandemic by pushing forward with tourism even as some countries more slowly came out of their pandemic crouch.

The number of passengers flying through DXB surged last year beyond its total for 2019 with 86.9 million passengers. Its 2019 annual traffic was 86.3 million passengers. The airport had 89.1 million passengers in 2018 — its busiest-ever year before the pandemic, while 66 million passengers passed through in 2022.

Earlier in February, Dubai announced its best-ever tourism numbers, saying it hosted 17.15 million international overnight visitors in 2023. Average hotel occupancy stood at around 77%. Its boom-and-bust real estate market remains on a hot streak , nearing all-time high valuations.

But as those passenger numbers skyrocketed, it again put new pressure on the capacity of DXB, which remains constrained on all sides by residential neighborhoods and two major highways.

Al Maktoum International Airport, some 45 kilometers (28 miles) away from DXB, opened in 2010 with one terminal. It served as a parking lot for Emirates' double-decker Airbus A380s and other aircraft during the pandemic and slowly has come back to life with cargo and private flights in the time since. It also hosts the biennial Dubai Air Show and has a vast, empty desert in which to expand.

The announcement by Sheikh Mohammed noted Dubai's plans to expand further south. Already, its nearby Expo 2020 site has been offering homes for buyers.

“As we build an entire city around the airport in Dubai South, demand for housing for a million people will follow,” Dubai's ruler said. “It will host the world’s leading companies in the logistics and air transport sectors.”

However, financial pressures have halted the move in the past. Dubai's 2009 financial crisis, brought on by the Great Recession, forced Abu Dhabi to provide the city-state with a $20 billion bailout.

Meanwhile, the city-state is still trying to recover after the heaviest rainfall ever recorded in the UAE , which disrupted flights and commerce for days.
