'Another Life' by Peter Baron

It gives me great pleasure to introduce this fine album by my friend and band mate Peter Baron. It's been a long time coming but well worth the wait, I think you'll agree. You will find it via all the usual online agencies, or by visiting www.heroicrecords.co.uk .

Albert Lee is one of the most respected and renowned guitarists in music history, having worked with The Everly Brothers, Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris and The Crickets over his long and illustrious career. The British-born country-rock artist started his career during the emerging rock 'n' roll scene of sixties London, when he swapped bands with the likes of Jimmy Page and Chris Farlowe.

“ The ultimate virtuoso. His skill is extraordinary, his ear is extraordinary and he’s gifted on just about every level.”

- Eric Clapton

After moving to the U.S. and assimilating himself into the country music scene, Albert quickly garnered a reputation as one of the fastest guitar players in the business. He recorded a number of solo albums, and won a Grammy in 2002 for his contribution on 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown'. He continues to tour today, and plays his signature Ernie Ball Music Man Guitar.

“A brilliant guitar player. His sound is unmistakable - often emulated, never equalled .”

- Emmylou Harris

Albert the Great

Excellent guitar 🎸 player Very enjoyable evening

The venue was changed to Sportsmen’s Tavern, a compact, but fabulous place, ideal for watching the master at work. He played a nonstop 90 minute set, with 2 songs on the keyboards. His band was top notch. See him while you can.

The extraordinary Albert Lee

Very few guitar players share Albert Lee's stature. He is a magician of the guitar with technical abilities that few can touch. As happens often, the front row was populated with eager guitar players wanting to study Lee's fingers. His performance did not disappoint. Fiery, lyrical and meticulously articulated. Albert plays with a crystal clear tone without gratuitous effects or distortion. Sadly, the sound at the Canyon Club often was muddy. It often was difficult to hear Albert clearly. At times he was overwhelmed by the loud drums and bass and the band lacked dynamics. The lighting was haphazard and distracting with motorize lights making irrelevant and random patterns not tied to the music of musicians. The seats in the Canyon Club are comfortable and the drinks just fine. Based on past experience, we dined elsewhere beforehand. The seating locations, however, were entirely different from the published seating chart, even though we had selected specific seats.

Albert Lee was great as usual

Albert Lee was fantastic as usual. His band was excellent.

A special night in an intimate room

Albert Lee turned 70 recently. For the uninitiated, he's a British guitar dynamo whose credits range from time spent in Emmylou Harris' and Eric Clapton's bands. He's also been with The Everly Brothers, has performed alongside David Gilmour, Ron Wood and many others and is great fun live. This concert was special because of his birthday--and in celebration of that, the night was rife with some of Albert's friends, including Emmylou, former Paul McCartney & Wings guitarists Denny Laine & Laurence Juber, Blondie drummer Clem Burke, folk legend Ramblin' Jack Elliott, famed talent scout, record producer & former British Invasion pop star Peter Asher, singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell, the Desert Rose Band featuring Chris Hillman (a founder of The Byrds), Little Feat guitarist Fred Tackett and several more. The evening was capped off with the presentation of a cake to Albert onstage at this intimate club, with everyone singing 'Happy Birthday'. It was a special night for everyone.

Epic Gathering of Musicians

4 hours, non stop, legend after legend just ten feet away truly giving it their all and having fun for Albert Lee's birthday bash. Maybe one of the most important musical events of my long life. Most of the musicians that are really important to me at One Time! Indescribable... really

Happy Birthday, Albert!

I bought a couple of tickets for my son for Christmas (okay...one was for me, too!)...what a night. We live a little over 100 miles from the Club, but I would have driven twice as far to see this group of legendary musicians. It was our first time to the Club...everyone was very nice and accommodating...food was even good. Opener was strong, second band didn't do anything for me, but when Albert and Hot Roux took the stage, nothing else mattered. It's hard to imagine a stronger lineup, and it was obvious that ALL of the musicians were truly thrilled and honored to be playing. Crowd was very appreciative (as it should be), sound balanced, and we were fortunate to share the table with other nice folks as well. I've seen a lot of shows (only a little younger than Albert), but this one quickly broke into the top ten...maybe higher...for me. Well done, everyone!

70th Birthday event with many special guests

I've seen Albert three times in the last couple years but this event was a special celebration of his 70th birthday. A long list of special guests included guitar virtuosos Jerry Donahue, John Jorgenson and Laurence Juber, singers Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, Peter Asher, Ramblin Jack Elliot and The full Desert Rose Band. This event lasted a nonstop three hours. Forgive me if I don't mention every performer and set list but it was a combination of sublime guitar playing and great singing of important songs of our time.

The Fantastic Albert Lee 70th Birthday Celebration

What a great show! Not the slickest of productions, but certainly one of the best! The love and appreciation exhibited by Albert's friends by "merely" showing up to perform for and with him made the evening. What a parade of talent! This is not an all inclusive list, but to see and hear on one night on one stage at the Canyon Club: Peter Asher, Denny Laine, Chris Hillman & Desert Rose, Emmylou Harris, & Rodney Crowell ... was FANTASTIC! Again, this is not the complete list of performers, & my apologies to those I did not mention because ALL were superb! The most interesting act was a group by the name of Jack Shit :-). Those guys were ENTERTAINING .... funny, they no doubt enjoy performing, & what a GREAT sound from a little three piece band from somewhere north of Bakersfield.

PORTLAND, YOU MISSED OUT

Wow, wow, wow. A terrific, well though-out set: collaborative tunes, followed by solo efforts, then culminating in more collaborative tunes. And, so many notes! Good grief, these 2 artists are so accomplished and proficient. John Jorgenson is obviously a well-rehearsed, technical guitar genius. And, Albert Lee! What can I say? He is the epitome of raw, organic, talent. The music just effortlessly flows from him. And, he's a pretty cool, down-to-earth guy as well. Both artists spent time after the show signing CD's and shooting the $hit with fans. I was especially appreciative of the diversity of tunes, ranging from country, rockabilly, folk, pop, blues...the list goes on. Only thing missing: jazz ala Django. Oh well, next time maybe! Leonard Cohen, Beatles, Everley Brothers, and Buddy Holly covers were terrific! So sad that the Aladdin was barely half-full for this outstanding concert. I almost didn't go, because the theater (although a great venue for up-close, intimate concerts) is disgustingly filthy and the seats are uncomfortable and decrepit.

Albert Lee | 80th Birthday Celebration

Albert Lee is a Grammy Award-winning British guitarist and multiple recipient of Guitar Player Magazine’s “Best Country Guitarist” who is celebrated by fans and musicians the world over for his fingerstyle and hybrid picking technique. Lee has worked both in the studio and on tour with many notable musicians from a wide range of genres including ERIC CLAPTON, the EVERLY BROTHERS, BILL WYMAN, EMMYLOU HARRIS, JOE COCKER, JACKSON BROWNE, ROSANNE CASH, and more. In 2002, he appeared on stage at the Concert for George, celebrating the life and music of Beatle George Harrison.

Lee started his music career at a very early age in England. With the likes of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and the Everly Brothers on the radio, Albert took to playing all over London in bars and church halls. In the mid to late 60s, a time of wah-wah pedals and distortion with Jimmy Hendrix and Eric Clapton fronting the music scene, Albert had his first taste of commercial success playing with Chris Farlowe and The Thunderbirds. Albert soon found his favored guitar of choice, the Fender Telecaster, (while everyone else was playing Gibson Les Paul and Fender Stratocaster), and along with this he discovered his love for country music. Traveling back and forth between Los Angeles and the U.K., Albert worked with the likes of “A Poet and a One Man Band” before joining 'The Crickets,' with whom he recorded and toured. 'Poet And The One Man Band' eventually turned in to 'Heads Hands & Feet' with whom Albert enjoyed some commercial success, most notably in the U.K. Albert eventually got to meet and work with his idols, the Everly Brothers, playing with Don as lead guitarist and harmony singer in his touring band. In Los Angeles, Albert would throw regular parties with Hogan's Heroes for the likes of John Lennon, Joni Mitchell, Ringo Starr, and Jimmy Webb. In the mid 70s, Albert joined Joe Cocker’s band, which led him to an opportunity to tour with Emmylou Harris & The Hot Band. With the help of Emmylou's husband and producer, Brian Ahearn alongside The Hot Band, Albert recorded his first solo album, 'Hiding' (1979). Then came touring and a series of collaborations with long-time friend Eric Clapton that spanned five years and included the live album “Just One Night,” recorded at the Budokan (December 1979), which was the first release (April 1980) to feature Albert. On September 23, 1983, the Everly Brothers played their reunion concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and Albert was on hand as guitarist and Musical Director. He continued that role, touring and recording with them for over 20 years.

Albert continued to play on the road, working with a variety of artists and bands including Rosanne Cash, and eventually Gerry Hogan, who invited Albert to front his band 'Hogan's Heroes.' This was the start of something both extremely different but hugely enjoyable for Albert, who at first was somewhat nervous about leading a band for the first time, but soon found his feet, and in turn, great success with the group.

Albert has been awarded two Grammys for “Best Country Instrumental Performance” in his illustrious career. In 2002, for “Foggy Mountain Breakdown,” from the album “Earl Scruggs & Friends,” and again in 2009 for his work on Brad Paisley's track “Cluster Pluck.” He also received nominations for tracks on three of his solo albums. Lee has received many other awards as a guitarist, winning Guitar Player Magazine’s “Best Country Guitarist” five consecutive times. Albert Lee is known within the music industry for his speed of playing and his technical virtuosity but is also one of the most melodic players. He’s often referred to as “the guitar player’s guitar player.” His song “Country Boy” helped to redefine country guitar for a whole generation of players and was later to become a #1 hit for multi-instrumentalist Ricky Skaggs. In the early 2000s, Albert toured regularly with Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings. Sugar Hill Records released Albert’s solo efforts, “Heartbreak Hill” in 2003 and “Road Runner” in 2006. In 2011, a summer jaunt with guitarist John Jorgenson prompted Albert to form his own U.S. band for the very first time, and to this day, he maintains a robust solo career and continues to tour with his great band, selling out venues from coast to coast.

THE CRYERS:

THE CRYERS have been performing since 1991 throughout the United States and Canada, especially around their home base of New Jersey and New York City. The band's sound is based deep within the roots of rock and roll. It features a solid beat, captivating harmonies, and powerfully-written songs. Along with their original material, the band performs tunes from the vast archives of rock and roll, breathing new life into timeless classics as well as contemporary songs. Sid Berstein, the man responsible for bringing the Beatles to America, called this band "Magical!"

The Cryers are led by founder and musical director, Joe Orlando , who writes and arranges the band's original work. He books and produces shows, and handles all arrangements required for a band consistently on the road. In addition to The Cryers' own performances, they are constantly working with such legendary artists as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members Denny Laine (The Moody Blues, Paul McCartney & Wings), Terry Sylvester (The Hollies), John Ford Coley (England Dan & John Ford Coley), Joey Molland (Badfinger), and legendary guitarist Albert Lee.

The band's unique sound originates from Orlando's songwriting talents, bass playing and vocals, plus guitarist/vocalist Jimmy McElligott, aka Jimmy Mac . They are supported by keyboardist/vocalist Belle Liao , whose training in classical piano adds another dynamic layer to the band's music. The Cryers are fortunate to have a rotation of talented drummers such as Steve Holley (who performed with Paul McCartney & Wings, Elton John, and Ian Hunter, to name a few) and Owen Goldman .

Albert Sneed Obituary

Albert Lee Sneed, Jr. ASHEVILLE, NC - Albert Lee Sneed, Jr., of Asheville, NC, passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 13th. He was born October 20, 1943 in Denver, CO to General Albert Lee Sneed and Dorothy Ryman Sneed. They soon relocated to Pinehurst, NC so the retired General could play golf. He and his brothers had an idyllic childhood raking magnolia leaves, starting fires, riding bikes, and sneaking on to Number 2 which was their backyard. Albert and his two brothers attended Christ School, a boys' boarding school in Arden, NC. The headmaster "Mr. Dave" and the other teachers molded Albert into an outstanding young man. He received a Morehead scholarship, a National Merit Scholarship, and NROTC scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Math and minor in Physics, graduating in 1965. Albert was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity where he made lifelong friends. He was commissioned as an Ensign and began his service to the Navy upon graduation. He did an 18-month tour in the Mediterranean aboard the USS John King, a guided missile destroyer. He was an admirals aide and finished his career as a Captain of a minesweeper. He had many adventures. He lost his Christ School class ring while water skiing in the Mediterranean Sea. While giving a tour to the royal family of Monaco, rather than referring to the young Prince Albert as "your highness," he suggested that they just call each other Albert. After four years of service, he decided that life at sea would not give him the family life he and Barrie wanted, and he enrolled in the Law School at Duke. He received his JD in 1973. Upon graduation, he moved to Asheville and began his career at the Van Winkle Law Firm, specializing in Bankruptcy and Commercial Business litigation. No client was too big or too small. Along the way, he received many awards and honors. Among those were being named one of the best lawyers in America, a North Carolina Super Lawyer, a Business North Carolina Legal Elite attorney, and an AV Peer-Reviewed rating by Martindale-Hubbard, to name a few. Albert had a very sharp mind and loved to discuss complex legal issues. He enjoyed a very successful law career, and as managing partner, he helped build VanWinkle into the law firm that it is today. On the Board of Directors at Christ School for 20 years and as its former President, he was credited with raising the endowment from 1 to 15 million dollars, thereby transforming the school into a premier institution. He was a founding member and President of the Council of Independent Business Owners in Asheville. He also conceived the idea of establishing a land conversation trust for Buncombe County, his proposal was adopted by the Board of Commissioners, and Albert was named the first President of the Trust's advisory board. He was a devout member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He was also a member of the Biltmore Forest Country Club. Albert was a good athlete, he lettered in baseball while at Christ School. He picked up windsurfing in his 30's and validated his prowess when he surfed the Columbia River Gorge, on a very windy day, jibing back and forth with guys half his age. He was an avid fisherman who actually once caught a rainbow trout with his bare hands. He had a 15-year love affair with a bird dog named Lily. They worked the grouse of WNC and pointed birds in Wisconsin. With Barrie, Albert traveled extensively to places like Africa, Peru, Greece, Costa Rica, and Japan. They spent their first trip, their honeymoon, in a Ford truck with a camper top as they toured the whole of the United States, camping along the way. They both were such curious, adventurous, and loving people. Albert was a unique and complex man. Those who knew him best loved him most. He loved salty raw oysters, dirty gin martinis, and Marlboro lights. He was known for saying he wasn't hungry but would then eat two plates. He was a sailor who could navigate by the stars. He was a lawyer who would crush you in court. He was a father who raised two impressive sons. He was a husband who loved his wife dearly. He was a friend and brother that was there when it mattered. He was a principled man whose humor tried hiding itself but frequently came thru in spite of his resolve. Later in life, there were two special women who helped Albert very much, Sara Lavelle and Ona Hensley. He will be remembered fondly and sorely missed by all who knew him. He is survived by two sons, Albert Lee Sneed III and wife, Kristen, Paul Ryman Sneed, and wife, Tracie, and three granddaughters, Mattie, Lucille, and Mirabel who were the brilliant lights in his life. He is also survived by younger brothers, John Ryman Sneed and wife, Linda, Charles Sneed and wife, Laurel, sisters-in-law, Lisa (Mike) Carriagan, and Jodie Muilenburg. Several nieces and nephews whom he adored, and wonderful friends he shared amazing memories with. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Barrett Muilenburg (Barrie), who passed in 2018 from complications of Parkinson's disease. Rest in Peace "Big Owl". Services to be held on May 6th at 11 am at Trinity Episcopal Church, Asheville, NC. Friends are welcome to join the family in a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to please make a contribution to The Parkinson's Foundation Carolinas Chapter. Thank You. If not his first client, I was certainly one of Albert´s very early clients. He represented me from the early 1970s and was both my attorney and one of my best friends. For over 50 years I always discussed every major decision I made with Albert. I totally respected him for his ability to play devils advocate and help me hone my often spur of the moment decisions in ways that kept me out of trouble. He was the first person I turned to for help in forming the Council of Independent Business Owners (CIBO). We fought many political battles together, closed numerous business transactions together and he traveled throughout the country with me on my airplane on both business and personal trips. To my respected friend Albert, RIP!!

BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, London

How to get BBC Proms 2024 tickets, plus this year’s schedule and dates

Everything you need to know about the 2024 edition of one of the world’s best classical music festivals

Liv Kelly

Anyone who’s ever stepped inside the Royal Albert Hall will understand that it can’t be filled with just any old music – it needs scale and drama. And every year it gets exactly that with the BBC Proms, one of London’s best-loved and most dazzling cultural festivals.

The Promenade Concerts (as they’re also known) have taken place in the RAH throughout the summer since way back in 1895. They’ve been organised by the BBC since 1927.

The likes of Pete Tong, Stormzy, Kylie Minogue and even Dame Judi Dench have all made appearances at the Proms in the past, and this year the likes of Florence + the Machine and Sam Smith are set to perform. It’s not all orchestral renditions of classic classical pieces of music (although there will be plenty of that, too).

2024’s season of BBC Proms is kicking off in mid-July. Want to bag yourself a ticket? We’ve got all the info on tickets, dates and the schedule: here is everything you need to know about the BBC Proms 2024.

When is the BBC Proms?

The proms are running throughout the summer, from Friday July 19 until Saturday September 14 2024 .

When do Proms tickets go on sale?

Season passes for the Proms go on sale at 9am on Thursday May 16  and general tickets go on sale at 9am on Saturday May 18 (but this doesn’t include Last Night at the Proms – these will likely be allocated by ballot).

They’ll be available from the Royal Albert Hall website here .

What’s this year’s schedule?

More than 90 concerts will be taking place over the 58-day festival, most of which are at the Royal Albert Hall. First Night at the Proms will feature performances by BBC Singers, Symphony Chorus and Symphony Orchestra, as well as a First Night debut for conductor Elim Chan.

Other highlights include Everybody Dance: The Sound of Disco (Jul 20) where hits by Chic, Gloria Gaynor, Diana Ross, Boney M and more will be brought to live with an orchestra, Florence + The Machine – Symphony of Lungs  (Sep 11) where Florence Welch and conductor Jules Buckley lead celebrations of her BRIT Award-winning debut album, and of course, the Last Night at the Proms (Sep 14), which is apparently the world’s biggest classical music party, celebrating the end of 2024’s season.

You can look at the list of events on the BBC’s Proms calendar here , or view all the performers and conductors or the composers . There’s also a full festival guide, which you can learn more about here .

TikTok Food Critic Keith Lee Is Back in His Hometown of Detroit and Ready to Eat

The self-proclaimed TikTok critic is looking to visit local restaurants that could use his magic touch — though he didn’t realize the city was hosting the NFL Draft

Guess who’s back in Detroit? Keith Lee, one of the most viral names in online food reviewing and a native son of the Motor City, raised in the Joy Road and Evergreen area on the westside, has arrived in the city and is ready to eat. The TikTok personality returned with his family for a visit this week and is asking for recommendations of local restaurants that want to be reviewed.

It’s a busy time to go check out restaurants in Detroit, as Lee pointed out in a post published Thursday, April 25. There’s the NFL Draft taking place downtown (which is already breaking attendance records with a whopping 275,000 visitors who descended upon the central business district on Day One of the Draft). Helping to kick off the football festivities, another Detroit native, Big Sean, delighted fans Thursday with a quick performance on the Draft stage.

In light of the chaos overtaking much of the city’s hospitality industry during the Draft, Lee says he’s not treating this trip as a “full food tour,” but is rather taking this time to revisit some of his beloved childhood favorites, like coneys, corned beef egg rolls, and Better Made chips.

Lee wasted no time with the taste-testing, first stopping by Hart Plaza — the NFL Draft Experience area site, where dozens of local restaurants, food trucks, and cafes are set up for the festivities. He appreciated the fact that many of the food vendors were Black-owned. He offered a sneak peek of what he’s getting into food-wise during this current visit by checking out a tray of wings from Good Vibes Lounge . He reported that the East English Village establishment had just gotten hit (presumably by a car) and that the ownership was feeling “defeated.”

“God willingly, she got a space here at the NFL Draft,” Lee says, before he displays a screenshot of Good Vibe Lounge’s Instagram account to let viewers know how to find the neighborhood bar and restaurant.

“God don’t make no mistakes,” added Lee, who is known for his spiritual take on his so-called “ Keith Lee effect .” Eater has reached out to Lee via email about his visit and will report any updates when they become available.

Lee has become a household fixture among the food-obsessed for his food tours in cities across the United States, including San Francisco , New Orleans , Dallas , Chicago , and Atlanta — a destination that went viral for its many dramatic instances of bad experiences. A native Detroiter, who now lives in Las Vegas, Lee has more than 16 million followers and makes it a point to visit smaller mom-and-pop establishments — often that are BIPOC-owned — that may have impressive menus, but that might be lacking in online presence. His visits are unannounced and are primarily takeout. He often sends in a family member to fetch the food when it’s ready so as not to attract attention. He rates each place 1 to 10 for customer service and the quality of the food, and makes sure to note his personal preferences whenever he scores. When he first started, he focused on Vegas-area restaurants and did his reviews while sitting in a tiny children’s-sized Paw Patrol chair, and now he most often films his reviews in his car.

The “Keith Lee effect” that his reviews have on small businesses is profound. Janel Prator, owner of the Puddery , a Houston-area dessert business featuring Prator’s creamy banana pudding, told Eater in a December 2023 report that her shop was struggling to take off before a review Lee did his did of her place in November. His influence was immediate business took off, with customers lined up from the front door eager to try her desserts.

The last time Lee paid a visit to his hometown was in September when he reviewed several beloved local food businesses, including the Spot food truck, which, according to Lee’s review, had contacted him on social media to invite him to check out its food. He ordered a steak crunchwrap supreme with Hot Cheetos (on the side) and gave the truck a rave review for its service, house-made “Turbo” sauce, and commented that the meat was seasoned to perfection. Similar to Prator’s experience, the Spot also reported traffic snaked around its truck in the days after Lee’s review went live.

The Cult add extra London show to 2024 UK anniversary tour

It comes after the band announced a 40th-anniversary tour earlier this month

Ian Astbury, left, and guitarist Billy Duffy of The Cult perform at The Pearl concert theater at Palms Casino Resort on October 27, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Cult have added an extra London show to their upcoming anniversary tour. Check out ticket details below.

The announcement comes just days after the rock icons announced details of an upcoming UK tour for the end of 2024 – which will see them celebrate 40 years as a band.

Upcoming shows will be held in 10 cities across the country, and mark the milestone anniversary of Ian Astbury and co. coming together as we recognise them today – swapping their name from the original title ‘Death Cult’ into ‘The Cult’.

Now, following the initial date at London’s Royal Albert Hall selling out, the band have announced details of a second show in the UK capital, this time held at the Roundhouse venue in Camden.

The date is added as an extension to the original run of shows and will take place on Tuesday, November 5 – the day after the Royal Albert Hall gig. Tickets are available now and you can check out an updated itinerary for the UK shows below.

Ian Astbury of The Cult performs at The Pearl concert theater at Palms Casino Resort on October 27, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Cult 2024 updated tour dates are:

OCTOBER 21 – Leicester, De Montfort Hall 22– Swansea, Swansea Arena  24 – Edinburgh, Usher Hall [SOLD OUT] 25 – Manchester, O2 Apollo 27 – Bristol, Beacon [LOW TICKETS]  29 – York, Barbican 30 – Newcastle, O2 City Hall

Recommended

NOVEMBER: 1 – Portsmouth, Guildhall 2 – Wolverhampton, Civic Hall 4 – London, Royal Albert Hall [SOLD OUT] 5 – London, Roundhouse

The dates for 2024 come following a tour the band embarked on last year, celebrating 40 years since their first formation under the name ‘Death Cult’ .

Taking place around the UK, Ireland and the US, the tour was called ‘Death Cult 8323’ and saw Duffy and Astbury return to play iconic venues they previously performed in at the start of their career.

The live shows focused on Death Cult and their eponymous EPs, and also boasted a setlist that spanned “the three phases of the band, from Southern Death Cult, to Death Cult, and The Cult’s first two albums: ‘Dreamtime’ (1984) and ‘Love’ (1985).”

Announcing the new run of dates, guitarist Billy Duffy said: “Following up from the great energy of ‘Death Cult 8323’ shows, I’m looking forward to bringing that sense of celebration of the band’s music, and the communion with our fans, to ‘Cult 8424’… CFFC. Let the ceremony commence!”

More recently, Billy Duffy joined Johnny Marr on stage in Frome last summer to play tracks by The Smiths and Depeche Mode .

2024 NFL Mock Draft: Albert Breer Predicts the First Round

© Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports

2024 NFL Mock Draft: Albert Breer Predicts the First Round

Our latest intel has at least five quarterbacks coming off the board, along with several receivers and offensive linemen among the 32 picks.

  • Author: Albert Breer

Let me start here—I know there will be trades in the 2024 NFL draft.

There might be one for a quarterback early, with perhaps the Minnesota Vikings moving up. The middle of the round could see the Indianapolis Colts or Jacksonville Jaguars getting aggressive for offensive skill players . The back half of the first round will likely feature some jockeying for the top tackles, as the seven who are projected as likely first-rounders come off the board.

But for this exercise, I’m going to stay away from trades. When I looked at my top 11, I saw the likelihood that the Vikings might let the quarterback position come to them, rather than using their second first-round pick to make a big move up. And after that, it became easier just to leave everyone where they’re slotted.

So my apologies for that. Hopefully, I can make up for it with this year’s one-and-only mock from me. As always, come for the picks, but stay for the information in the blurbs, where I think you’ll learn a thing or two as to where each club is at with the season three months away …

1. Chicago Bears | Caleb Williams, QB, USC

USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams scrambles out of the pocket and looks to pass.

Williams has been the presumptive No. 1 pick for a while and the Bears have treated him as such.

Jason Parkhurst-USA TODAY Sports

The Bears were smart about how they attacked this pick, getting way ahead on Williams. They had scouts ask USC, Oklahoma and Washington, D.C., guys about him at all-star games. They siphoned information from ex-USC assistant Kliff Kingsbury during an offensive coordinator interview. They had dinner with Williams’s team at the NFL scouting combine, spent extra time with him at his pro day, and separated him from the pack during his 30 visit. This pick has been determined for a while now.

2. Washington Commanders | Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU

This seems like another wire-to-wire deal. Early signs—the hire of Kingsbury, the signing of Marcus Mariota and the trade of Sam Howell— pointed to Daniels. The 30 visit with Michael Penix Jr., Daniels, Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy might’ve thrown some folks off, but even at that one, I’ve heard he got a little more facetime than the 22 players who were there for it. With Daniels’s playstyle and experience (55 college starts), Washington should be able to get him up to speed quickly, and give the Commanders the kind of threat at quarterback that keeps defensive coaches like Dan Quinn awake at night.

3. New England Patriots | Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina

I do think there was some debate about trading this pick, and some disagreement, and the Patriots having to work through that is new because the franchise doesn’t function as an autocracy in player acquisition anymore. In the end, Maye is the pick because New England needs a guy with a high ceiling for the next 10 years, rather than a more palatable answer for the next two. The challenge will be exhibiting patience as Maye develops, but the talent is very clearly there.

4. Arizona Cardinals | Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State

It’s been a long road here for the NFL and Harrison, similar to Williams, where Harrison first showed the talent to go this high early in the fall of 2022. GM Monti Ossenfort is going to gather offers while he’s on the clock tonight. My guess is the chance to fill another premium position, like he did last year with Harrison’s old Buckeyes teammate Paris Johnson, is too much to pass on.

5. Los Angeles Chargers | JC Latham, OT, Alabama

I struggled big-time with this one. Everything in my gut said L.A. plays it safe and takes Notre Dame’s Joe Alt. But I’ve kept hearing over the past week that the Chargers see Latham at the same level as Alt, and how adding Latham (the superior run blocker) would fit Jim Harbaugh better and be a bit cleaner, in that he’s a right tackle and his selection would allow the team to leave left tackle Rashawn Slater in place. So Latham it is.

6. New York Giants | Rome Odunze, WR, Washington

Call this a hunch. The Giants just went through a tumultuous year. Malik Nabers is a great prospect, but has a reputation for being a little difficult to coach. Odunze, on the other hand, has A-plus character in the same way as his old teammate Trent McDuffie, and projects as a Davante Adams-type of receiver. So do the Giants take a swing on the hard-to-handle LSU receiver (they have some experience with that) or move down? I’m guessing the latter, and it may wind up being as part of a trade down, too.

7. Tennessee Titans | Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame

Tennessee’s tempted by Nabers, but ultimately chooses the more sensible route, taking the left tackle. The Titans are another team that’s said to be hot on Latham, so if there aren’t trades at Nos. 5 and 7, I’d bet Alt and Latham—in one order or the other—wind up in those two spots.

8. Atlanta Falcons | Dallas Turner, OLB, Alabama

Alabama linebacker Dallas Turner tackles a ballcarrier.

Turner addresses a need for the Falcons and could be the first defender off the board in an offense-heavy draft.

Gary Cosby Jr.-USA TODAY Sports

This pick has been so out there that I almost don’t believe it’ll happen. But it was that way last year with Bijan Robinson and Atlanta, so I’ll roll with this one. I think Texas’s Byron Murphy II would be a consideration, but Turner fills the more immediate need. That said, I do think Nabers would be a possibility in this scenario.

9. Chicago Bears | Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

Nabers is 100% the kind of receiver Ryan Poles loves , and Chicago has a receiver room with top-shelf pros in DJ Moore and Keenan Allen, to help absorb a bigger personality. I do think Turner and Murphy would be in play if they're available at 9, as would a couple of the tackles. But the opportunity to build aggressively around Williams such as the Chiefs did with a younger Patrick Mahomes, when Poles was in Kansas City, is too much to pass up.

10. New York Jets | Olu Fashanu, OT, Penn State

I know how many people are all over Brock Bowers in this spot. I’m just not. I think Odunze will tempt GM Joe Douglas here. But having two 33-year-old tackles is walking a tightrope with a quarterback coming off a torn Achilles. And the Penn State All-American gives them a safety net. Taliese Fuaga is enticing, too, in that he could play guard. But Fashanu’s high-end potential to be a long-term left tackle is too tempting, and the need is too great not to address here, especially with the Jets lacking a second-rounder. New York can find a solid skill guy in the third round in this draft.

11. Minnesota Vikings | J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan

Failing to land Maye, the Vikings call everyone’s bluff, and wind up with the draft’s fourth quarterback eight picks after the first run on the position concluded. I wouldn’t rule out a short move up the board just to protect against Denver leapfrogging them. Or even, say, packaging Nos. 11 and 23 to get Nos. 6 and 47 from the Giants. But if this happens? What a huge win it’d be for the Vikings, with the extra first-rounder acquired to engineer a trade up still intact.

12. Denver Broncos: Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia

Georgia Bulldogs tight end Brock Bowers runs after a catch during the third quarter as Auburn defenders pursue him.

Denver may be in the market for a quarterback, but Bowers would give Sean Payton a matchup tight end talent right away.

Jake Crandall / USA TODAY NETWORK

I think Denver has flirted with going up for McCarthy or swallowing hard and drafting Bo Nix here. Being without a second-round pick certainly complicates the situation. But Bowers is a good get for Sean Payton, who has always thrived with matchup tight ends such as Jimmy Graham and Jeremy Shockey. I also wouldn’t rule out a tackle here if the right one falls who could take the place of Garett Bolles (whom the Broncos tried to trade him a couple of times last year) at left tackle.

13. Las Vegas Raiders | Michael Penix Jr., QB, Washington

The Raiders can get by for a year with Gardner Minshew, Aidan O’Connell and a solid group of offensive coaches managing the situation. But after what just happened in Las Vegas, it stands to reason that Antonio Pierce might push GM Tom Telesco not to wait and draft their quarterback of the future. And Penix has a lot of fans in the Raiders building.

14. New Orleans Saints | Taliese Fuaga, OT, Oregon State

It sounds like the Saints are focused on getting the tackle position right here (with addressing corner as a likely backup plan), and Fuaga’s a clean prospect who can play inside or out. He could slot in as a guard to start if need be, and eventually displace one of the team’s incumbent tackles: Trevor Penning or Ryan Ramczyk.

15. Indianapolis Colts | Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo

My sense is the Colts will try to trade up for one of the top three receivers or Bowers first, then perhaps settle on a defensive back. To that end, I initially had Alabama’s Terrion Arnold here. But a friend of Chris Ballard’s reminded me of how important traits are to the GM, and Arnold’s testing numbers were just so-so. So slot Mitchell in here, as the team looks to finally take care of a position that’s been unstable for a lot of years.

16. Seattle Seahawks | Jared Verse, DE, Florida State

Florida State Seminoles defensive lineman Jared Verse lines up before a snap.

Verse is reminiscent of former Ravens star Terrell Suggs, and a clear fit for Mike Macdonald's scheme.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

This could be Penix—if he slides down past the Raiders—with ex-Washington OC Ryan Grubb now working for Seattle’s big-league team. If that’s not on the table, I’d look for an interior offensive lineman, or a defensive piece fitting Mike Macdonald’s Ravens-style scheme. Iowa’s do-everything DB Cooper DeJean would be one logical pick. Verse, who has a Terrell Suggs-type playing style, would be another.

17. Jacksonville Jaguars | Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama

The Jags have done all the work on the top skill players, but in this spot, with Bowers and the top three receivers gone, Arnold’s too good to pass on. A Nick Saban favorite, this is a guy picked right in the range he should be, and fills one of Jacksonville’s most pressing needs.

18. Cincinnati Bengals | Byron Murphy II, DT, Texas

Too easy. The need’s there, with D.J. Reader gone, and Sheldon Rankins as a stopgap. And looking at the tackles and receivers available here, landing Murphy stands up as a value play that also fills an existing hole on the roster.

19. Los Angeles Rams | Laiatu Latu, OLB, UCLA

Nix’s name has come up here, and I like the idea of a succession plan in place at the position. But the needs on defense are stark, so I’d imagine getting a top-end pass rusher will be a priority. With Aaron Donald gone, Illinois 3-technique Jer’Zhan “Johnny” Newton would be a logical pick, but Latu has the higher ceiling. While his neck issue has him off some draft boards, Latu’s tape, according to most evaluators, is the best of any edge rusher in the class.

20. Pittsburgh Steelers | Graham Barton, C/G, Duke

The Steelers have done a lot of work on receivers and offensive linemen, and they’ve always been able to find receivers later in the draft. I think their preference would be to find a tackle they really like, but Barton’s a good option if that guy isn’t there. He’s a premier interior guy who offers position flexibility and a mean streak.

21. Miami Dolphins | Troy Fautanu, OT/OG, Washington

I’ve heard Xavier Worthy here, and that’d be exciting. But they need Fautanu (even though he’s been flagged for a knee issue that could be a problem later in his career), who is a natural as a versatile, high-character player who should acclimate quickly to the pros.

22. Philadelphia Eagles | Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Amarius Mims lines up during a snap.

Mims checks the box for the Eagles–Georgia connection and would give Philadelphia a steady run blocker.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

I initially had Tyler Guyton here, but GM Howie Roseman’s Georgia “thing,” plus Mims standing out as a stronger run blocker, prompted me to flip my choice. I actually think the Eagles could get aggressive and move up for a higher-end tackle such as Fuaga. If it’s not a tackle, I’d say corner would be the best position to address in this spot.

23. Minnesota Vikings | Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson

With quarterback addressed at 11, I’d expect Minnesota to go in hard on defense for the remainder of the draft, and DC Brian Flores covets top-end cover corners. If Wiggins can put on a little weight, and grow up a little, the talent is certainly there.

24. Dallas Cowboys | Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma

A premier pass-protecting talent who’s still ascending and needs to improve in the run game. But Dallas can take him and lean on its ability to develop linemen, and the culture it’s built in that room with Zack Martin, Tyler Smith and Terence Steele to help Guyton get his footing as a pro.

25. Green Bay Packers | Jer’Zhan “Johnny” Newton, DT, Illinois

If he’s recovered from a foot fracture, Newton will give Packer fans a lot to be excited about as an interior pressure player. Newton would be a nice complement to Rashan Gary along the Packers’ defensive front.

26. Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Chop Robinson, DE/OLB, Penn State

The Buccaneers have needs at both edge and at corner, and it just so happens that a super athletic pass rusher is sitting there for them at the end of the first round to throw in the group with Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and Yaya Diaby.

27. Arizona Cardinals | Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama

McKinstry’s extremely talented but is another player who needs to mature and be consistent. Getting to go head-to-head with Harrison in practice every day probably wouldn’t hurt in helping McKinstry to get there in the weeks and months to come.

28. Buffalo Bills | Brian Thomas Jr., WR, LSU

Thomas is an incredible athlete, and was off the charts his last year, catching 68 passes for 1,177 yards and 17 touchdowns. But I think two things result in a little slide. One, his shoulders have been flagged by team doctors, and he may need surgery on the left one after his rookie year. Two, he’s simply pushed down a bit by the run on the tackles I’m projecting.

29. Detroit Lions | Darius Robinson, DE/DT, Missouri

The Lions have explored trading up, maybe for a corner. And maybe for an edge to play opposite of Aidan Hutchinson. In any case, the tough, rugged Robinson would be a really nice fit for what coach Dan Campbell and GM Brad Holmes have built in Detroit.

30. Baltimore Ravens | Cooper DeJean, DB, Iowa

Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean (3) pulls in an interception for a touchdown over a Kentucky wide receiver

DeJean would provide Baltimore with another versatile piece on defense alongside Kyle Hamilton.

George Walker IV / Tennessean.com / USA

As we said earlier, DeJean is a tremendous fit for the Baltimore scheme. Corner is on the radar for the Ravens, too, with McKinstry a consideration, as would a pass rusher (Robinson?) or receiver (one of the Texas guys?). There’s also a bit of a question on whether having DeJean and Kyle Hamilton might be redundant. Personally, I think Baltimore would be dangerous with both.

31. San Francisco 49ers | Jordan Morgan, OT, Arizona

Trent Williams isn’t getting any younger. So getting a young, talented tackle in the pipeline would be nice, with corner and pass rusher other considerations, as would be a receiver if the team could find someone to pay the freight to get Brandon Aiyuk (which probably became a little less likely after Amon-Ra St. Brown broke the bank with a four-year, $120 million extension).

32. Kansas City Chiefs | Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas

I’m not sure Worthy will be available here. But if he is, and with Rashee Rice facing potential league discipline, I’d imagine it’d be tough for the Chiefs to pass on him, even with a crying need for a tackle (in this scenario, Andy Reid could try and get fellow BYU Cougar Kingsley Suamataia in the second round).
