Best Experience : Exodus Travels

Courtesy of Exodus Travels

Traveling solo on an Exodus Travels group trip means access to self-guided and guided excursions around the world for every type of traveler. Choose a walking wine holiday in Portugal or explore Egypt via cruise boat and sleeper train, for example. Additionally, its Exodus Edits collection offers shorter itineraries of up to five days and is geared towards travelers in their 30s and 40s—though they’re ideal for anyone looking for more vigorous activity such as ziplining and surfing in Costa Rica or sampling street eats and beach hopping in Sicily.

There is no single supplement fee when you room with a fellow traveler, and chances are you may end up with your own room anyway. Booking a travel itinerary with UK-based Exodus Travels includes a full refund should the company need to cancel your trip and a complimentary trip transfer to another tour or different person up to 21 days before the scheduled trip. Plus, travelers who book their third or more trips with Exodus receive a 5 percent discount on their next booking.

What’s more, the company works to curate trips that align with a number of United Nations sustainable development goals including goals for responsible consumption and production, empowering local communities, and climate action considerations. Exodus Travels (founded in 1974) was awarded Best Operator in National Geographic Traveller’s sixth annual Reader Awards in 2021.

Best for Ages 35-50 : El Camino Travel

Courtesy of Encounter Travel

According to El Camino Travel ’s founder, Katalina Mayorga, elder millennials are their strongest customer base. That means if you were born between 1980 and 1985 approximately, you’ll find yourself among curious, like-minded solo travelers looking to immerse themselves in destinations like Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, and the Eastern European nation of Georgia. Some trips even add a professional photographer to capture shareable shots so you can remain in the moment.

All of El Camino’s guided, small group trips max out at 12 participants. They’re also curated with an ethos of preserving and protecting local culture, the environment, and communities. For example, some of their partners include the Environmental Research Institute Charlotteville in Tobago and La Sierra Artist Residency in Santa Marta, Colombia.

Best Sustainable : G Adventures

Courtesy of Intrepid Travel

G Adventures is particularly known for its sustainable, responsible ethos. The company works with small, locally-owned hotels and operators to ensure your travel dollars benefit the community you’re visiting; outlines policies around child and animal welfare practices; aims to reduce single-use plastics, and works to ensure experiences taking place in Indigenous communities align with community goals.

Founded in 1990, G Adventures specializes in small group adventure tours to a host of destinations from Asia to South America and Africa to the Arctic. Nearly half of the travelers on every trip are flying solo, and there’s no single supplement if you choose to bunk with a same-sex roommate. Or, select your own room for a fee.

A Chief Experience Officer leads each group tour and itineraries are searchable by travel style. For example, find wellness-centric trips like nine days of daily yoga, visits to Hindu temples, and partake in traditional healing ceremonies in Bali. Or travel with their partner, National Geographic, for an exclusive guided tour of South Africa’s Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden and a visit to Soweto township in Johannesburg, the home of Nelson Mandela.

G Adventures partnered with hostel booking service Hostelworld in 2021 to launch its Roamies itineraries. Its combination of backpacking and organized travel itineraries includes countries like Albania, Mexico, the Netherlands, and Vietnam. The trips are marketed to 18- to 35-year-olds, though like-minded individuals keen on budget travel and communal environments may enjoy these trips, too.

Best for True Solo Travel : Black Tomato

Courtesy of G Adventures

Black Tomato specializes in bespoke luxury travel experiences. For those interested in traversing around the world solo and willing to pay a premium for tailored itineraries, its adventurous or culturally immersive experiences may just be your ticket.

Your travels might look like hiking and biking in Patagonia, embarking on a spiritual pilgrimage through Bhutan and India, chasing glaciers and geysers in Iceland, or learning to cook Georgia and Armenia’s local dishes or Japan’s regional cuisine.

In 2017, Black Tomato launched its Get Lost adventure travel experience. With the support of a dedicated team, and without prior knowledge of where they're headed, Get Lost participants will find their way home from an undisclosed location. The location is selected based on a pre-travel questionnaire about which environment clients would like to immerse themselves in. Then, they show up at the airport and the adventure begins.

Best for Ages 25-39 : For The Love of Travel

Courtesy of Contiki

With 80 percent of individuals traveling with For The Love of Travel jet -setting solo, each trip is packed with opportunities to meet fellow Millennial and Gen Z travel enthusiasts. For example, within your small “crew” of up to 14 people, make new friends doing snow sports and unwinding in saunas in Lapland or devouring tacos and sipping mezcal in Mexico City. Trips range from four to nine days, including weekends in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain wilderness or an extended weekend in Costa Rica where you’ll hike through rainforests, relax in hammocks, and hike, bike, or surf.

According to company feedback, the average FTLOT traveler is 30 years old and interested in meeting new people while traveling . The company bills itself as a mid-range travel company, where “we might stay in a more basic hotel for a couple of nights so we can include a Michelin-worthy meal and a private catamaran ride.”

In 2022, FTLOT plans to offer at least 10 new itineraries including to Belize, Turkey, and Spain’s Basque Country. And for those with the flexibility, the company launched Sojrn in 2021 featuring month-long, themed stays in destinations like Cape Town—focused on biodiversity—and a fashion-oriented stay in Paris.

FTLOT requires an initial deposit and allows installment payments if not paid in full.

Best for 50+ : Overseas Adventure Travel Rates

Courtesy Flash Pack

Overseas Adventure Travel is primarily aimed at American travelers aged 50 and over. It offers guided itineraries to worldwide destinations, including Africa, Antarctica, Asia, and the South Pacific, with trips ranked by activity level and accompanied by a list of physical requirements to help select an itinerary that is best suited for you. For example, their Japan and South Korea itinerary advise that participants be able to carry their own luggage as the selected hotels do not have porter service.

Some of Overseas Adventure Travel’s most popular trips include 17 days of wending the Adriatic from Croatia to Bosnia and Herzegovina (think a walking tour in Dubrovnik, sampling traditional Bosnian food in Sarajevo, and exploring the countryside near Zagreb). On another popular trip, you spend 15 days traveling through Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, ending in Helsinki, Finland. All trips offer pre-and post-itinerary extensions, and either waive the single supplement entirely or offer a discount on a private room.

The company offers a free Roommate Matching Program which helps you find a like-minded, same-sex roommate. If they can’t find a match, your single supplement is deducted. Small group sizes typically average 13 travelers.

Overseas Adventure Travel won the Solo Travel Award for Best Tour in 2017 and 2018, thanks in large part to its policy of offering a limited number of single spaces for each itinerary.

Best Female : Wild Women Expeditions

Courtesy of Overseas Adventure Travel

It began as an all-women, Canada-based canoe tripping company in 1991, and Wild Women Expeditions is perfect for boundary-pushing women who want to travel independently and enjoy the safety and support of an organized tour. The company also prioritizes hiring female tour leaders and on-the-ground guides. It offers outdoor adventures for women of all ages and identities and with a range of physical abilities (“whether your greatest skill is tracking a storm or talking up a storm, summiting mountains or summoning courage, keeping your kayak in line or coloring outside the lines,” as the company describes).

The company travels to 31 destinations around the world like Egypt, Tanzania, and the Azores islands. Itineraries are typically adventure-based and are filtered on their website by activity, with options ranging from sailing to cycling and horse riding. Imagine yourself sea kayaking and snorkeling in the Galapagos or scaling glaciers in Alaska.

Most guests are solo travelers and there’s no single supplement to worry about as accommodation is typically in a shared room or cabin. Though if privacy is a priority, you can usually snag your own room for a nominal extra fee. Group sizes are kept small and social with between six and 14 women, depending on the itinerary you choose. The average group size is eight.

Wild Women Expeditions also takes care to curate trips that avoid or minimize the disturbance of wildlife; supports environmental education and advocacy projects; and partners with social justice and women’s rights organizations.

Best for Solo Parent Travel : Intrepid Travel

Courtesy of Wild Women Expeditions

Intrepid ’s family-themed holidays welcome adults traveling with children, including solo parents looking to travel with their kids without the stress of planning and coordinating a trip. Since each family’s travel needs and preferences are different, every itinerary includes an “essential trip information” section where Intrepid outlines whether the trip would be a good fit for you and your kids, as well as a physical rating from least to more strenuous activities.

For example, an itinerary through part of the Amazon Jungle in Peru advises the jungle can be very hot and humid, and that the weather can be unpredictable in the Andes. On the other hand, an 11-day trip to Borneo island in Southeast Asia lists a minimum age of 5 and outlines a range of accommodations from hotels to guesthouses and jungle camps; on a few occasions, travel times between destinations range between four to five hours. Trips to Costa Rica, Tanzania, China, and Morocco are also listed.

Individuals under 17 years typically receive a 10 percent discount, and the company requires that adults have at least one child under 18 years traveling with them. As part of Intrepid’s commitment to responsible travel, itineraries support initiatives surrounding sustainability and conservation, climate education, and preservation of Indigenous culture.

15 Best Trip Destinations for Solo Female Travelers

Here are the top travel destinations around the world for solo women.

best tourist destinations for singles

Solo travel can be intimidating. Whether you're heading to a city in your own country or across the globe, traveling alone can bring up a wealth of concerns — from the awkwardness of dining on your own to more serious issues of safety, especially for women. But despite any nervousness or uncertainty, traveling solo can be one of the most freeing and rewarding experiences, allowing you to immerse yourself in the community and stumble upon those moments of cross-cultural connection organically.

Choosing the right destination is key, so we've rounded up some of the best destinations around the world for women to travel solo.

Between exploring the charming streets of Reykjavik, chasing the northern lights , and driving the famous Ring Road, solo female travelers can have an unforgettable trip in Iceland and feel safe doing so. The country has consistently ranked first on both the Institute for Economics and Peace's Global Peace Index and the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report, so visitors can rest assured that safety and gender equality are prized in this naturally stunning destination. Solo tourists can head out into the wilderness via well-traveled (often busy, even) hiking trails and make friends with locals and fellow foreigners alike.

2. Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is an extremely walkable city, and you're unlikely to get lost as long as you have a map of some kind. You can window shop along Las Ramblas, stroll down the beach boardwalk, and wander through the Gaudi-designed Park Güell while taking in the gardens and claiming panoramic views of the city for yourself.

The dining options are conducive to solo travel, too. Instead of sitting by your lonesome in a dining room, you can take your paella al fresco at one of the many waterfront restaurants (people-watching is built-in entertainment) or opt for a counter seat at a tapas bar.

3. Seattle, Washington, United States

Thanks to the omnipresence of Seattle's coffee culture , a solo diner (or drinker) is not an uncommon sight. Plus, the city's proliferation of cafes means there's a rest stop around every corner to break up visits to Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, or the campy Museum of Pop Culture , aka "MoPOP." The compact downtown area makes it easy for visitors to zip between attractions, restaurants, and shops on foot — and anything that is slightly farther is accessible by the easy-to-use Link light rail.

4. Munich, Germany

The jolly German mentality shines through in this Bavarian city, where tourists and locals bond over brötchen in mom-and-pop bakeries and pints in the biergartens. Although Oktoberfest happens only in the fall (and does not lend itself to a solo experience, per se), the beer halls in Munich maintain that same kind of festive ambience throughout the year. Hofbräuhaus is, hands down, the most famous and guaranteed to contain an abundance of other tourists. Fellow travelers can also be found climbing the Olympiapark tower ( Olympiaturm ), the top of which provides views extending as far as the Alps.

5. Dubrovnik, Croatia

The rise in Croatian tourism has improved the ease of travel, and the country's low crime rate heightens the appeal. Protected by 6,365 feet of pristine walls, the oceanfront medieval city of Dubrovnik gives you history, culture, and beautiful beaches all in one destination. Its cobblestone streets guide visitors to artisanal shops and local eateries, while a walk along the walls offers spectacular bird's-eye views of the Adriatic coastline. Just a few minutes from Old Town, there are plenty of opportunities for kayaking and snorkeling via tours and rentals offered right on the beach.

6. Austin, Texas, United States

Austin's festival culture makes it easy to get pulled in multiple directions, but it's also a great way to meet new people. There's plenty to see and do, whether you're checking out live music or eating your way through Tex-Mex and BBQ restaurants and food trucks. When you need a little quiet time, head downtown for a walking tour, or find a spot to watch the Congress Avenue Bridge bats soar.

Austin is often ranked as one of the safest big cities in the U.S. Note, though, that the ubiquity of booze here can be a blessing or a curse. While it keeps the streets populated (and therefore generally safe) at night, alcohol can lead to crime even within tourist circles, so exercise caution while participating in Austin's lively bar scene.

7. Salzburg, Austria

Overlooked by the Hohensalzburg Fortress and bisected by the Salzach River, Mozart's hometown has storybook allure. After reliving scenes from "The Sound of Music" at Mirabell Gardens and Nonnberg Abbey, relax with a coffee on the terrace of Cafe Tomaselli or a pint in the 1,400-seat outdoor area of Austria's biggest biergarten, Augustiner Bräu . Cyclists should take note: While the entire city is walkable, Salzburg is also one of the country's most bike-friendly cities. More than 100 miles of cycle paths mean you can pack way more into a day and get around more efficiently (and economically) as a solo traveler.

8. Taipei, Taiwan

xPACIFICA/Getty Images

The capital of Taiwan offers an ideal mix of history and modernity. You'll find temples and skyscrapers, contemporary malls and traditional night markets — perfect for making a meal out of snacks while shopping for accessories and souvenirs. Taipei has the bustle of a major Asian metropolis but with important urban comforts as well. Street signage and public transportation all have names in English — and even though crime is overall low in the country, the metro system has " Safe Waiting Zones " marked on the platforms, which are monitored closely by video feed to protect passengers at night.

9. Copenhagen, Denmark

In the quirky Danish capital, you'll find plenty of centrally located hotels offering single rooms, each providing the perfect jumping-off point for Copenhagen adventures. Must-visit spots include Nyhavn, the iconic canal lined with multicolored houses (opt for a tour for a closer look at the city's waterways), and Tivoli Gardens, a historic amusement park. Stop for a quick solo bite at the TorvehallerneKBH food hall. With Danish culture valuing the importance of community dining, solo travelers should never feel alone.

10. Melbourne, Australia

This Australian metropolis is one of the most livable cities in the world, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit. Throw in a free tourist tram that reaches the major sights — including the Queen Victoria Market, Carlton Gardens, and Federation Square — and Melbourne's got simplicity and safety all rolled up in one. Because Australia offers a Working Holiday visa allowing visitors between 18 and 35 to work in the country for a year, the city is especially popular with young expats.

11. Stockholm, Sweden

Ivey Redding/Travel + Leisure

Sweden's safe, accessible cities are ideal for solo-traveling women. The cobblestone streets of Stockholm's Old Town, or Gamla Stan, are home to coffee shops, restaurants, stores, and even a castle, prompting hours of exploring on foot. The modern areas surrounding it are also easy to navigate through a string of metro stations, which double as art exhibits with their over-the-top murals, mosaics, and sculptures.

12. Okinawa, Japan

For a taste of Japan without the overwhelming hustle, head to Naha, the capital of the Okinawa islands. The monorail is super accessible, linking the airport to the city center as well as the popular Shuri Castle. And within walking distance of the city center are the Naminoue city beach, Tsuboya pottery district, and Makishi Public Market, where the pull-up-a-chair stands are primed for solo dining.

13. Norway’s Fjords

Lara D'agostino/Travel + Leisure

There's no better environment for self reflection than the soothing blue-and-green canvas of the Norwegian fjords. In Bergen, you can ride up the Fløibanen funicular or embark on a daylong journey on the Bergen Railway. Head to Gudvangen and take a cruise through Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord. Equally impressive as the waterfalls-at-every-glance boat ride is the Flåm Railway trip, with views outside the window changing from seascapes to snow-capped mountains. This trip is for the solo traveler seeking peace in nature rather than busy biergartens and the like.

14. Washington, D.C., United States

The manageable size and easy layout of the U.S. capital make it an ideal stomping ground for solo travelers. In addition to exploring the memorials along the National Mall, you can take in the exhibits at the many Smithsonian museums (plus the zoo), all walkable and offering free admission. If you want to explore further, it's easy to get on two wheels at one of the hundreds of Capital Bikeshare stations, which extend to Arlington, Alexandria, and Montgomery County. Alternatively, take advantage of the efficient D.C. Metro for day trips to nearby areas.

15. London, England

For European charm without the culture shock or language barrier, there's London. Visitors could spend days just roaming along the River Thames, snacking in Borough Market, and admiring the eclectic houseboats, or strolling through the Royal Parks and eyeing luxury items at Harrods. After dark, grab a seat alongside locals at a pub or catch a show in the West End, then enjoy a late-night bite in nearby Chinatown. The endless sights and entertainment are easily connected via the London Underground, better known as the Tube.

Unforgettable Vacations for Singles and Solo Travelers

Kimberly Miles

There are many reasons why one may consider a solo vacation . Perhaps friends backed out at the last minute, or they had a recent breakup with their travel partner. Or maybe they’re ready to take that bucket list vacation that they’ve been dreaming of for years, but can’t quite get their friends or family on board to take the trip with them.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my years as a solo traveler , it’s that one should never wait for someone else to go after their travel dreams. And sometimes, the best trips are the ones that are taken alone. Thankfully, many popular travel destinations have also taken note that the popularity of single travel is increasing. There are now a multitude of opportunities for singles to have the time of their lives.

From all-inclusive vacations and beach getaways to cruises and cross-country train rides, the opportunities are limitless when the only decision-maker on your vacation is you! Here’s our list of some of the best vacations for singles to have an unforgettable “solocation”:

1. Nassau , Bahamas

A trip to the Caribbean is always a great idea, and an even better idea for a singles vacation . With beautiful year-round weather, gorgeous white sand beaches , remarkable history and culture, water activities galore and a tropical vibe that can put any traveler at ease, Nassau , Bahamas is no doubt one of the best vacations for singles.

In addition to the beaches, there is plenty to do and see in the Bahamas to keep a solo traveler busy. During an all-girls trip back in 2010, I spent some time by myself exploring the beautiful Atlantis resort (which you can gain full access to as a guest of the Comfort Suites Paradise Island ), testing my luck at the nearby casinos and doing some shopping and exploring in the colorful downtown area.

All-inclusive resorts like Breezes Resort & Spa Bahamas  on Cable Beach make solo travel easy, affordable and stress-free. There are numerous land and water activities, live entertainment and spa packages to pamper yourself. S ingle travelers can sit and relax at the beach or one of three freshwater pools. Or, take part in activities such as rock wall climbing, beach volleyball, tennis, kayaking and surfing. With all there is to do to keep busy, you won’t feel like you’re alone at all!

And if you prefer to go by cruise, Norwegian Cruise Lines offers comfy Single Studios for one on their cruises to the Bahamas from New York . Not only will you get to explore the Bahamas , but also Orlando and Bermuda!

2. Costa Rica

If your idea of the perfect vacation for singles is somewhere relaxing where you can bask in the natural beauty of your destination, Costa Rica is a top choice. Not only is Costa Rica  considered to be among the top destinations for solo female travelers, but it is one of the most beautiful and relaxing places to take a trip as a solo traveler in general. I traveled to Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica as a single mom with my then 3 year old son in 2017 and it was by far one of the best solo experiences that I’ve had!

Aside from the delicious food, beautiful beaches , lush green forest and admiring the sloths, birds and monkeys in the trees, the “Ticos” were the highlight of my solo trip with my son. A “Tico” is a term used to refer to the natives of Costa Rica . Out of all of the people I’ve met traveling, they were by far some of the friendliest. Between the Ticos and other travelers (both solo and group travelers), I never once felt alone.

The Retreat Costa Rica in Atenas is an all-inclusive wellness resort and spa well worth considering as a solo traveler . In addition to its breathtaking land and sea views, there are numerous ways to de-stress and pamper yourself. There are yoga classes, mediation classes, spa treatments and healing practices. There are also annual events such as the Yoga Fest Zumbathon, a great way to meet new friends with like-minded interests!

Jamaica is another top Caribbean destination that makes for the ultimate tropical getaway , whether you travel alone or with others. It is also home to some of the best adults-only resorts that make vacations for singles an experience they won’t forget!

If you’re not afraid to let your inhibitions loose, the legendary adults-only Hedonism II resort in Negril may be a place to consider. This all-inclusive top-clothing optional resort is considered an “adults playground” and is ideal for singles and couples. There you will have the opportunity to meet other like-minded (and open-minded) travelers while having access to stunning beaches, themed parties, numerous land and water sports , live entertainment and gourmet dining.

In Montego Bay, the all-inclusive and adults-only Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall is more traditional vacation option for single travelers looking for a fun, yet relaxing escape to paradise. The recently remodeled Zen Spa provides a place to relax and be pampered with a spa treatment or soothing massage. There are also plenty of daily activities, live entertainment and weekly parties which provide the ideal atmosphere for meeting other singles and solo travelers . And with twelve restaurants, bars and lounges, it won’t be difficult to find that perfect spot to enjoy a meal!

4. Cancun, Mexico

When I first told my family members that I had booked a solo vacation to Cancun, Mexico , they thought that I was insane. To be honest, a small part of me thought the same! However, it turns out that Cancun was one of the best vacations for singles that I have ever taken!

Cancun’s numerous all-inclusive resorts , bustling nightlife and various excursions and activities make solo travel a breeze. Within minutes of venturing out to explore the warm waters and white-sand beaches , I had met friendly locals and other tourists who were willing to strike up a conversation and provide fun company. There were also plenty of day trips that made it easy to see popular sites while meeting other travelers. With the Chichen Itza Early Access Tour , I was able to get out and see the famous ruins before the heat really hit, and still make it back in time to enjoy the day lounging on the beach.

One of the most popular all-inclusive resorts for single travelers in Cancun is the Temptation Cancun Resort . This adults-only , topless-friendly resort is made especially for singles and couples, offering an uninhibited experience with water sports , land sports and nightly live entertainment. The staff-led activities are also led in a fun way to introduce single travelers to one another, taking away the stress and “awkward” feeling of trying to meet new people!

5. Lisbon, Portugal

Portugal in Southern Europe is considered to be one of the best vacations for singles since it is extremely easy and quick to get around and explore different areas. A train between the popular cities of Lisbon and the UNESCO -listed Porto takes less than three hours, ideal for a day trip to explore the vibrant sights and culture of both.

In Portugal you can indulge in delicious food and wine while snapping some postcard-worthy photos of its scenic landscapes and charming villages. Both Lisbon and Porto, Portugal are also popular places for American expats, making it even easier to meet new friends in addition to friendly locals during your travels.

Located 30km from Faro, Club Med ’s Da Balaia Resort makes solo travel to this beautiful country even easier, offering an all-inclusive package with 24 included activities and numerous excursions to keep you active and busy. Whether its a nature hike, sunset safari or sailing on a 50-foot yacht, you’ll have the time of your life!

If you’ve never considered exploring a country by train, now is the time to do so. The Rocky Mountaineer train company offers several train routes through the most beautiful places in Canada . It is one of the easiest vacations for singles. You won’t need to do a thing but sit back, relax and enjoy the sights around you!

The Journey through the Clouds Excursions are one of the most recommended tours. Its routes take you through Vancouver, Kamloops, Jasper, Lake Louise, Banff and Calgary. The route also includes Jasper National Park , which is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site . At the end of each evening, you’ll get a good night’s rest in a comfortable hotel.

With Cuba not always being an option for travel in the past, it is now a highly-sought after destination with its 1950s cars and colonial architecture that looks like you’ve taken a trip back in time. Cuba is also considered to be among the top vacations for singles. There are gorgeous unspoiled beaches, live entertainment, delicious cuisine and plenty of salsa dancing!

The Blau Varadero Hotel is a popular adults-only all-inclusive resort for single travelers visiting the island. It is located right on the beach, making it a breeze to spend days in the sun, sand and warm Caribbean waters. There is also plenty to do at the resort to spend your solo vacation. There are  salsa lessons, water sports , sports facilities, a spa, outdoor swimming pool and daily live entertainment. Food and drinks are also available 24 hours a day.

SheBuysTravel Tip: At the time of publication, travel for tourist activities from the United States to Cuba remains prohibited. However, there are a number of workarounds, including traveling to Cuba for educational programs. Check the US Embassy site and consult with a travel professional specializing in Cuba.

8. Punta Cana , Dominican Republic

Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic is another Caribbean destination to land among our list of the best vacations for singles. Between the numerous adults-only all-inclusive resorts , pristine white-sand beaches and opportunities to take fun excursions to explore the island, a trip to Punta Cana is never boring.

I’ll never forget my first single girls trip that I took back in 2009 and thinking to myself how I’d no doubt return as a solo traveler . The ATV tour that I joined was one of the trip highlights, taking us through the country, into a cave and to a beautiful white sand beach . It was a great opportunity to meet people , both travelers and locals.

The Sanctuary Cap Cana Resort and Spa is one of the most popular places for single travelers to stay during a trip to Punta Cana . This Spanish castle-style adults-only all-inclusive resort sits cliffside, offering stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and sugary white-sand Juanillo Beach. The rooms are large and spacious, enough to make you feel like royalty. There are also plenty of activities and amenities to fill your day including a luxury spa, swimming pool with swim-up bar and water sports . If golf is your kind of sports, you’ll have access to one of the best golf courses in the Caribbean . It is certainly a place to enjoy a vacation for one!

A trip to Greece is a bucket list item for many travelers, and a solo vacation makes it even more special! The Greek Islands offer ancient cities, incredible architecture, beautiful beaches , exciting nightlife  and delicious food and wine, all of which makes it an unforgettable vacation for singles. It is also very likely you’ll meet other single travelers along the way!

One of the best ways to explore Greece is via cruise. Norwegian Cruise Lines offers a nine-day cruise of the Greek Isles which it considers to be amongst its best cruises for singles . These cruises offer single’s common areas as well as accommodations made especially for singles. During the cruise, you’ll can visit some of the major cities including Athens, Mykonos and Santorini. Some cruises even include stops in Spain , Italy , France, Croatia and Turkey , knocking off even more items in your bucket list !

10. Las Vegas

Sin City may not be the first place to come to mind when considering vacations for singles. However, it is by far one of the most fun places to be! I once took the opportunity to turn my work trip to Las Vegas into a weekend long vacation and let me tell you – I had the time of my life!

Vegas is known for its glitzy casinos which is no doubt a place to hang out if you’re into gambling. However, there is so much more to do and see. There is always a concert or show going on to keep you entertained. The thrilling Cirque du Soleil shows including O and KÀ are a must-see. A bonus of going solo: Since you’re traveling solo, you’ll probably have access to much better single seats! If you’re into the party scene, the pool parties during the day and the club scene at night won’t disappoint. I found being a solo traveler particularly beneficial at the most exclusive places, as the bouncers didn’t mind letting in one person versus a group of friends all trying to enter at once.

For something more low-key, stroll the Strip, do some high-end shopping or try one of the many buffets. There are also day trips to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam if you need a break from the action on the Strip.

If you’re into vibrant nightlife and people watching, don’t be afraid to head to Miami Beach, one of the best vacations for singles who like to see and be seen. The Latin and Caribbean vibe you feel the moment you land will most definitely draw you in – you may not want to go home!

In addition to the tropical weather and lovely beaches, Miami packs plenty of ways to enjoy a vacation for one. The 10 best places for solo travellers to find love

Feb 4, 2020 • 6 min read

best tourist destinations for singles

Exploring the world on your own can be exciting. You have the freedom to go where you want, when you want, and no one can tell you otherwise. That said, solo travel can also be challenging, and at times can certainly get lonely. Here are the top 10 most romantic destinations for solo travellers to help connect you with other wanderlust-filled explorers as you travel the world, and maybe even find romance along the way.

A view of the beach in Positano, on the Amalfi Coast. The beach is crowded with people, and colourful buildings climb the rocky hillside behind it.

Amalfi Coast, Italy

The Amalfi Coast  in Italy is the perfect setting for a romantic adventure. Picture yourself zooming through the Italian countryside on the back of a moped, arms wrapped around a gorgeous local. Imagine indulging in the world’s best pizza, pasta, and gelato beneath the sparkling lights of a terrace overlooking cliffs dotted with colourful towns.

For the solo traveller in search of a bit of romance, base yourself in one of the towns along the coast, perhaps Sorrento or Positano , and take local buses to explore a different town each day. Don’t be afraid to venture away from the tourist sites and head to the public beaches where you can strike up a conversation with a local, and get them to show you some lesser-known destinations.

Veer off the beaten path and take a stroll through residential neighbourhoods: Sant’Agnello, just outside of Sorrento, is a charming option. The most exciting things happen when you wander outside your comfort zone – you never know what you’ll find or who you’ll meet!

A wide-angle shot of Rainbow Mountain near Cuzco in Peru. The mountain's striations are brightly coloured, and a group of hikers has gathered to admire it.

Cuzco, Peru

There are few things more enchanting than the mystery of a remarkable ancient city laden with age-old history and a rich local culture. In Cuzco , Peru , you will find yourself transported backwards through time in one of South America’ s most exotic destinations.

Climb the hilly cobblestone streets of Cuzco to a charming bar and enjoy a traditional pisco sour as you take in panoramic views of the city by night. Book a day tour to nearby Rainbow Mountain for a breathtaking hike through the stunning Peruvian landscape and bond with fellow solo travellers making the trek.

Just a stone’s throw from Cuzco is one of the most incredible sites on earth, Machu Picchu. Located on a lush mountaintop surrounded by clouds, otherworldly Machu Picchu is the perfect destination for solo travellers seeking adventure and romance.

Bali, Indonesia

If your solo travels bring you to Bali , one of Indonesia ’s most popular islands, be prepared for a dreamy experience. Between vibrant rice terraces, gorgeous cliff-side temples, lush rainforests, and fantastic beaches, there are endless opportunities for solo travellers to enjoy a romantic encounter.

If surfing is your thing, head to Canggu to catch some waves with sun-kissed travellers and locals alike. For a more laid back vibe, spend your time in Ubud , a yogi’s paradise, where you will inevitably meet like-minded travellers and maybe even split a nasi goreng or organic acai bowl. Find your lover on the dance floor in Seminyak ’s La Favela nightclub or spend the day drinking Bintang beers at the W Bali hotel’s sultry poolside bar.

A beach bar on Seminyak beach in Bali at sunset; people are lounging on large, brightly-coloured cushions and lights have been turned on under parasols.

Paris, France

Is there a city on earth more romantic than Paris ? From world-class wine to the  Eiffel Tower , it’s no question that the City of Light is one of the world’s most alluring destinations. With infinite features to explore, solo travellers will effortlessly discover romance in Paris.

Meet expats and fellow travellers by signing up for a French language class or attending conversational meetups throughout the city. Experience the culture of Paris on a group tour of the Louvre or attend a wine and cheese tasting event to meet others in a more intimate and relaxed setting. Take a bike tour through this dreamy city or spend the day on a small-group tour of the nearby picturesque Palace of Versailles .

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Among the most stunning cities in South America is sensual Buenos Aires . Renowned throughout the world for its passionate tango, fine wine and world-class beef, this city is an ideal destination for solo travellers looking for love.

A great way to make this massive metropolis a bit smaller is to visit a puerta cerrada  (closed door restaurant) for dinner. Here you will dine in the home of a  porteño  (local) chef alongside other adventurous travellers and members of the city’s expat community. This unique experience is a great way for solo travellers to make friends abroad, and what’s more of an aphrodisiac than an intimate dinner with Argentine Malbec and fascinating company?

Two people are free-falling on a tandem skydive above Queenstown in New Zealand. Below is a view of the ocean and rocky terrain on land.

Queenstown, New Zealand

There’s no question that a perfect location to fall in love with a stranger is against the gorgeous backdrop of Queenstown , New Zealand . From nearby natural attractions, scenic hikes, and exciting nightlife, you'll never be lacking for ways to meet new people no matter what your interests.

There's no better way to inspire romance than to share an adventure together, and as Queenstown is renowned as the world's adventure capital, a thrilling skydiving or bungee jumping experience might be the push you need to bond with your fellow thrill-seekers.

Stockholm, Sweden

What’s more romantic than bundling up and strolling through a true Scandanavian winter wonderland? Stockholm is a fantastic city for solo travellers to meet the locals, as Swedes are known for their striking looks and overall friendliness.

If you don’t speak Swedish, not to worry; the majority of the population is well-versed in English, making Stockholm a great destination to try CouchSurfing, a platform to meet locals and stay with them in their homes. Local hosts will often also act as your own personal tour guide and show you the city from their insider perspective.

Two women are standing in front of a colourful mural at the Art Basel festival in Miami and discussing something out of the frame. A man in a bright costume is walking across the shot.

An undeniably sexy city, solo travellers should head to Miami to experience romance mixed with a bit of Latin flavour. From white sandy beaches to high-end clubs, Miami is the perfect place to get out there and meet new people while travelling solo.

Attend one of the city’s many festivals and events, such as the world-famous Art Basel , the South Beach Wine and Food Fest , or Ultra Music Festival to meet international travellers from every corner of the globe.

Tel Aviv, Israel

A bustling metropolis in the heart of the Holy Land, Tel Aviv is filled with gorgeous locals, delicious Mediterranean cuisine, and a vibrant nightlife.

Head to the beach and strike up a game of matkot with Israelis you meet at one of the charming beach bars, or visit the bustling Carmel Market in the heart of the city. In a country as compact as Israel , it’s hard to avoid running into the same people time and time again, making Tel Aviv a great destination to link up with other solo travellers and continue your adventure from there.

A couple are kissing on a beach in Thailand. Traditional boats are lined up behind them.

Chiang Mai, Thailand

In Northern Thailand lies the eclectic city of Chiang Mai , with its traditional Thai markets and ornate temples. This unique destination is one that solo travellers will not want to miss.

Sign up for an early-morning tour and watch the sunrise from a majestic hot air balloon over the expansive countryside. Visit or volunteer at an elephant sanctuary, such as the humane Elephant Nature Park, to get close to these marvellous creatures in a fulfilling and responsible way. In Chiang Mai, you will have the chance to meet like-minded travellers and locals while enjoying once in a lifetime experiences, and what’s more romantic than that?

21 Best Solo Travel Vacations for Singles in their 30s

Sharing is caring!

Alright, my single friends in your 30s! I only have 2 months left in my 30s to write this 🙂 So consider this your elder’s wise, wise words. I began solo traveling in 2014. I took my first solo international trip in 2018, and I have loved every single solo road trip and solo trip I’ve taken! So let’s get into it.

Disclosure: Some of the links on this page are affiliate links, meaning, at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase.

What’s your Travel Style?

First things first (I’m a realist), you have to decide if your vacation is for leisure. Or is it for sightseeing? Or do you want a good old-fashioned combo platter? I personally like the combo platter – I like to go places where I can read a book all day in a hammock but also go see their best sights. I talk more in-depth about how I plan (or unplan) a trip in this podcast episode ! But deciding on what your travel style will be for your next vacation is a good thing. That way you have made sure that you have the best singles vacation you can imagine!

Now, are we driving from where you are? Flying in a plane? What time of year is it? Don’t count out a singles cruise.

Check the best destinations for day trips – sometimes it’s very helpful to have a bus drive you to the Grand Canyon instead of having to do it yourself!  I love a wine tour and want someone else to drive – it also means I get a little bit of people’s time on the tour and it’s only a day so I’m not locked into their itinerary.

The Best Places to Travel When You’re Newly Single

budapest

We won’t pretend to know what happened between you two. There might have been a fight about whether or not organic avocados are a liberal myth, or if it’s blasphemy to keep your sheets tucked under the mattress while you sleep with two sweaty people underneath?! You’re such an egocentric -- geez, get your stream of consciousness out of this introduction, reader; we’re trying to make our point.

Anyway, it’s over. For-real over, change your relationship status on Facebook over, pound a screw-top bottle of red and howl at the moon over. Now what? You might feel heartache or relief or relieved heartache or plain ol’ bell-rung shock. Then you realize: You’re back to being single. And being single is fuuuuuun .

We’ve hit up a gang of writers who’ve probably been dumped at least once in most of the world’s continents for advice to get you back out there, to whatever “there” suits you best -- whether that's salsa dancing with tipsy surfers in Mexico, stripping in an eastern European spa, or soul-searching out on the open road. Rope in a gaggle of friends or go it alone (according to a recent report on solo travel from Expedia, Gen Z'ers are more likely to embrace the solo trip after a life-changing event like a break-up).

Here are the best travel moves to make when you find yourself newly single. You lucky so-and-so.

tasting

Cognac, France

A quaint distillery town confirms Snoop’s assertion that “Cognac is a drink that’s drunk by Gs” If you’re ready to mingle, and a bit of a boozehound, there’s no better place to ball out than the birthplace of Henny, Remy, and the rest of the boys. A four-hour train ride from Paris, this hamlet is saturated in the aged eaux-de-vie we know and love. You can’t walk two steps without bumping into a delicious bottle. Most distilleries offer tours and tastings -- Hennessey’s immersive, technology-fueled journey through its multicultural history is a must -- plus gift shops where you can stock up on some totally unnecessary but 1000% wonderful souvenirs like these neon flask sleeves (I mean, seriously).

After meeting the makers, hit up Hôtel François. Hopefully you’ve done your homework and booked a room upstairs. Either way, you can still chill at the cocktail lounge, Bar Louise , which, spoiler alert, happens to be one of Europe’s best: a gilded back bar and cream-colored banquette, expertly crafted tipples -- it’s the place to see and be soused. Unsurprisingly the joint’s an industry hub, so you’ll invariably find a friendly posse of liquor pros posted up there, eager to buy you a drink, chat you up and help you bid your troubles adieu. -- Meredith Heil

best tourist destinations for singles

Everglades City, Florida

Lay low in the timeless swamps with locals who are doing the same You need to heal, dear friend, so you should be somewhere soothing. To this end, neon pink skies and cheap cigarettes are a good start. But you should avoid any spot that smacks of South Beach. Seeing bubbly, model-grade rich kids partying and grinning tightly from bliss and bruxism is just going to bum you out (trust me).

Instead, zag over to Everglades City, a small town in the middle of (you guessed it) the Everglades, a National Park and a mad, murky expanse of sub-tropical swamp. You will see gators. You will meet mosquitos. You may see a panther! You will be two hours from Miami but you’re 50 years behind 2018. You’ll meet back-to-the-land sorts here who’ll be game to chat over a beer. Your new friends wear bandanas and live in trailers they own outright and know how to relax and may share their weed. Plus, if they live down here, there’s an excellent chance they’re also running from something.

Just beyond Everglades City are uninhabited islands you can reach via flooded mangrove paths. Boats are cheap to rent here ($20 per day is typical for a canoe). You’ll paddle onto your own uninhabited shore and drink tallboys while watching long-legged birds spear fish with rapier beaks. The land and the sea here are as postcard-quality as the Florida Keys, but because the ‘glades are protected everything is still pristine. You’re in a sunny place for shady people, and soon your head will feel much clearer, having lived among the animals for a while. -- John Marshall

Central Coast of California Big Sur

Go on a road trip

There’s nowhere better than the open road to celebrate your newfound freedom No one in your apartment building wants to hear your breakup playlist on repeat. So throw some snacks and a spare charger in a tote and turn up the volume on some stretch of infinite asphault that begins with I-. There’s no better place to cry loud than out on the open road where you can sing back at Toni Braxton and Taylor Swift. Watch the scenery smear past at 80-odd mph and realize that you’re only in the opening credits of the next episode of your life.

If you must head somewhere in particular, California makes a nice fat target. Run on sand in bare feet, catch a morning wave, hike a mountain in time for sunset, then sleep under the Milky Way in the wide expanse of the desert, all on the same day. Wake up to the sound of lapping waves and the chill of a foggy ocean morning. Be that mysterious person making coffee for one at the campground. Ruin a tire on some highway debris, change it yourself with pebbles digging into your bare knees, wipe off the blood, keep moving.

Oh, what’s that? A sign welcoming you to Los Angeles, home to an endless supply of people seeking physical affections and shallow affirmations? Do the tour. Or get your more ephemeral likes with a perfect selfie in Big Sur. By all means. Those long stretches of road and beautiful backdrops are there to remind you, as you sort out who you even are now, that you’ll “find” yourself wherever you happen to find yourself at any given moment, in any given place. -- Michelle Rae Uy

montreal

Montreal, Quebec

The je ne sais quoi of Europe, but close enough to go, like, tomorrow Where do you go when the guy you're obsessed with breaks your heart and shacks up with your friend? For me, that place was Montreal, a city I selected because I'd never been and I didn't know anyone there. I found Montreal as Canada's answer to an artsy European capital, the perfect balm to soothe an aching heart. Wander through the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, take in a concert at Le Belmont or sidle up to one of the many bars along Boulevard Saint-Laurent, where the locals are reasonably friendly, especially if you attempt to chat them up in broken French. Virtually everyone here can speak some English, but many also hold a 260-year grudge for the English hijacking Quebec from the French and would just as soon not. Like you, they’re loyal to the good times.

The real answer to any post-relationship sadness though is carbs: Chow down on the perfectly doughy sesame bagels from St-Viateur or indulge in the poutine at Greenspot, an old-school diner that supposedly serves up the best local version of Canada’s greatest hangover preventer. In the summertime Parc Jean-Drapeau hosts an annual fireworks competition, with two displays a week (befriend someone with a roof deck, but if not the Jacques‑Carter Bridge is a solid vantage). Montreal is the sort of relaxed, easy-going city that allows you to feel your feelings without wallowing too much. And if all else fails, go get a tattoo from a guy who doesn't speak English. It worked for me. -- Emily Zemler

budapest hungary

Budapest, Hungary

Get naked and meditate on love and life in the world’s best spas above the Danube You’ve rolled in solo, only to find that Hungary’s capital -- with its throng of ancient spas, old city walks, castles, welcoming locals, cheap-as-a-song eastern European prices -- is yours to embrace. Meet people, go on an adventure, or just to take a relaxing break. I can recommend from experience your best bet is to disrobe in front of a bunch of naked foreigners, and while settling into this new single life of yours, embrace your body, as you sit naked, and sweat it all out in one the world’s best saunas and spas

The Szechenyi Thermal Bath is a century-old spa with vintage architecture, tucked away in one of Budapest’s prime city parks. Once you enter, your emotions in tatters, you realize: nothing stokes the embers of the heart like shvitz in a roasting spa full of large, steaming, semi-naked Hungarians. Winter or summer, you can sit outside in the Roman city and dwell on what was, and what the future holds, soaking in natural hot, thermal mineral waters. Twenty bucks gets you into this steamy, fleshy wonderland. I’ve left the saunas feeling as energetic as if I’d just met a new lover. -- Dan Cole

Colorado Monument Landscape

Grand Junction, Colorado

The great crossroads of the American West is the gateway to your next phase Grand Junction is, as you might imagine, a junction that is somewhat grand in nature. The 70 snakes through, and also connects to the 50 and 141. If you're traveling America via the 70 -- your main Vegas-to-Denver artery, basically where the American west transitions into Kansas -- you're going through this town near the Utah border, and chances are you’ll wind up crashing here for the night. It’s a city of 60,000, none of whom you’ll actually see while you’re here.

Truth be told, I've wound up here after long drives, post-break-up, going in both directions. It’s an excellent dead-zone wherein to re-evaluate every single life choice. One time, I got up the next morning and drove to LA. Another time, I'd left LA the night before and decided I should turn around and drive back. In both situations, that meant that leaving Grand Junction. If you’re heading west in the early hours, the sun will rise behind you, leaving you to see clearly as several hours’ worth of the most beautiful natural lands in America wake up ahead of you, as the pink light rings your orange surroundings and leaves purple shade in your rearview. Grand Junction is nothing special. It’s only the gateway to so much better. -- Brock Wilbur

London, England

Of all the gin joints in all the towns, these are the ones you want to walk into So you like cocktails? Strangers with charming accents? Maybe penthouse suites? If you answered with duh, you, mate, are in for a treat. For a strapping singleton, this sprawling world capital offers way more than footie and fish and chips. Welcome to the birthplace of the sexiest drinking establishment on the planet: the hotel bar. We’re not talking warm beer at the breakfast buffet -- London’s posh inhouse lounges revolve around premium spirits and seasoned barkeeps. What better hangout for an eligible traveler than a stocked bar in spitting distance of a king bed, full of fellow travelers who may or may not be giving you their real name?

Save the museums and monuments for daylight. Come nightfall -- or earlier, you’re on vacation -- your agenda is stacked. Hipsters haunt the Curtain’s tiki-esque Green Room while the swank set hits The Connaught or DUKES for martinis spiked with local gin (no American swill here -- Plymouth or Boodles for OGs, Fords or Sipsmith for young guns). The legendary American Bar at the Savoy is aces for booze buffs and scores of buddies gather around punch bowls at the Edition’s handsome Punch Room. Fitz’s at the Principal is an opulent Art Deco dream with killer Negronis. The Mondrian’s Dandelyan, with its wildly experimental menu and clubby vibe, is your hookup joint of first resort. Just make sure your HotelTonight app is up-to-date. -- Meredith Heil

Renew

Break-up camp

Yes, it’s a real thing, and you’ll come out of it feeling like a better you Who wants to sit among the ruins of a relationship in an apartment you once shared (or, due to the brutal nature of the New York real estate market, still share?). Leave town for a real thing I promise is actually called the Renew Breakup Bootcamp . It’s a three-day women-only retreat experience that promises to help you to get over your ex in, what is that, 72 hours, damn. Located in private residences in upstate New York and Malibu, California, the retreat plops you into beautiful scenery into yurts and teepees and hammocks and offers an on-site chef, a psychologist, a tantra expert, yoga and meditation classes, and various exercises aimed at giving you the tools to self-soothe and detach and maybe not set the rest of your life on fire.

This excursion ain’t free: It starts at $1,500 for a private room and $1,000 for a shared room. But maybe it’s a way to return to the city with a scotch-taped heart and a clear head. The retreat may not be a new lover, but let me repeat to you those three little words every girl loves to hear: On. Site. Chef. -- Ruthie Darling

scotland

A dismal land where you can stew in your own rain-soaked moods Sometimes you just need to wallow. I brooded after she left, losing myself in the customary single malt (probably a smoky Caol Ila 12 ) and in what I recall as a smoldering half-blaze hissing in the fireplace -- at the Sheep Heid in Duddingston , maybe, where the bitter and wistful have been at this for nearly 700 years, or Edinburgh's Bow Bar , or one of hundreds of other dim pubs dotting Scotland's lonesome lands. Maybe I crammed a roll stuffed with freshly slaughtered Highland pig from Oink down my gullet to soak up the booze and memories of meals we'd made. Maybe I paced listlessly about Greyfriars Kirkyard , the world's most haunted cemetery, looking for spirits who shared my grief. I might, too, have visited the Meigle Sculptured Stone Museum , where the gravestone of Guinevere, wife of Arthur and lover to Lancelot, reportedly lies, thinking on romances more doomed than my own. I must have gazed achingly into the misty moors of the highlands and the gloom of Gothic kirks and abbeys , and seen her face in callous sea spray off the Orkney Islands .

I don’t really remember where my mind was in all of these corners. If you recall your Macbeth , you know Scotland as a land “where violent sorrow seems a modern ecstasy.” Of one thing I’m certain: It’s is the perfect place to lament your lost love. Embrace it. -- John Maher

Island Spa Sauna

A Korean spa

Soak your cares away, or let someone scrub them right off Being single has exactly nothing to do with your physique. In case you needed reminding, there’s nothing like the seeing the sea of lumpy bodies at a Korean spa to help you realize your ex didn’t leave you because of your bumpy buttocks. You’ll find these havens largely in and around New York, LA, and Washington (and you know, Korea), where for a very reasonably price you’ll enter a realm of calm achieved by when I can only describe as a grueling course of saunas. (Plus you get to lay in a sea of clay balls, like some kind of adult Chuck E. Cheese's.)

Do it for the day. Bring friends, or don’t. Just reboot. Need to take self-care to the next level and help usher in a new era? Opt for a Korean scrub so brisk, you’ll shed a pound of skin and whatever’s left of your inhabitation. (Wing, breast, thighs -- it doesn’t matter, spa attendants will scrub them all down with equal vigor.) End the day with a belly full of bibimbap (crispy rice mixed with vegetables) and a glass of wine (just go easy when mixing alcohol and heat), and you’re certain to reclaim your zen. -- Laura Studarus

Tuscany, Italy

Ditch the love and skip the pray -- just enjoy a food pilgrimage    Some post-breakup locations are classic for a reason. If you don’t have the time and money to go full Elizabeth Gilbert, take a cue from her memoir and stuff your face in Tuscany. The region has science on its side: Italian carbs are proven mood enhancers -- not that justification for the avocado ravioli at Florence’s Acqua Al 2 is required. Ditto for chocolate, which is why a visit to Venchi, known for its creamy gelato and nougat-filled chocolate is required. Next, get out the city and into chianti country, an area that Anthony Bourdain called “ridiculously, ludicrously beautiful.” For those not ready for a travel buddy, but up for casual interactions, Torcibrencoli vineyards offers a tour of their property, featuring an optional lunch (opt in: it’s pasta, with locally sourced ingredients) and wine tastings. Keep ‘em coming.

Between meals -- if you can move -- soak it off in Bagno Vignoni’s free village hot spring (an area that ancient Romans believed belonged to the nymphs), Instagram the imposing medieval towers of San Gimignano, and hop a boat out to mountainous island of Giglio. Sure, it’s a lot to take in, and even more to eat. But whatever, praying and loving can wait. - - Laura Studarus

Ayahuasca Peru Etnikas

A getaway for an ayahuasca trip is how to turn confusion into euphoria into closure Fresh off a breakup, you have to figure out who the hell you are anymore. Peru for an ayahuasca-inspired trip into self-realization. Ayahuasca is an ancient medicinal recipe that blends the extracted liquids from two or more Amazonian vines. Mixed and proffered by shamans, the concoction first quiets the users’ ego and then inspires psychological breakthroughs via visions that pave the way for progressive thinking. A vision quest described by some as “five years of therapy in one night,” the experience includes vice-ending testimonials from people who have quit cigarettes, cocaine, or heroin on the spot and others who have declared war on sexual abuse wounds and chronic depression. And there's always one person in every group that definitively leaves the pain of a broken relationship behind.

Cusco is the gateway to now overrun Machu Picchu and one heck of a place to have an out-of-body experience that makes you realize that romantic relationship dilemmas are often luxury problems. Our group sat in a circle upon futons on the floor of a candlelit room. We each drank a three-ounce shot of the auburn, woody-tasting fluid. Twenty minutes later, a dizzy euphoria encouraged us to all lie down on our backs in the shadowy room. The dizziness soon subsided and my first vision leisurely wandered in. The dreamy series of visualizations launched with a self-propelled flight -- me clutching a flight-worthy two-by-four wing and flying through an infinite, illuminated cave teeming with indented half-dome shelves. Each domed ledge in the hallowed emporium comfortably roosted groups of the important people in my life. I visited dozens of ledges, exchanged greetings or memories with comrades, received reassurance from my parents and nods of approval from my two older brothers. When the breezy voyage landed on the shelf propping up the ex-girlfriend, I said, “Sorry.” She tried to reply but couldn’t find words. We both cried until I flew away. The tears were real, both in and out of the dream.

One predictable outcome of an Ayahuasca ceremony is the literal purging of your personal demons. An exorcism, in the form of literally dry-heaving out unhealthy spirits, occurs at intervals after you process unfortunate or unpleasant things from your past. In this shamanic forum, my first confrontation with my unsettled history concluded with purge of that broken relationship. Something stronger than us insisted we finally move on. Other baggage best not remembered was later evacuated in stages. I was free of it, at least for a rapturous moment, maybe longer. Looking back years later, I rarely even look back. -- Bruce Northam, American Detour

beach

Puerto Escondido, Mexico

Don’t overthink this -- you want tacos, surf wax, and bodies Sometimes the best way to get over an old lover is to get under a new one. Or something more poetic but equally real. Often a great way to heal if you’re newly single is to get that palate cleanser. And there is no better place for that than Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. It’s a beautiful Mexican beach town (because who isn’t healed by the mighty Pacific Ocean with a side of freshly grilled tlayudas) and a legit surfer mecca. Hard bodies of both male and female variety can be found over every inch of the town, surfboard and avocado toast in tow. Hotel rooms are exceedingly cheap (which is saying something considering the exchange rate is still 19 pesos to the dollar). This is handy in case the friends who took you to Puerto Escondido to help you heal don’t actually want to HEAR you heal.

By day Puerto Escondido has athletic types crushing waves, relaxing under palapas sipping local mezcal, or exploring the hidden beaches up and down the coast. By night, the temperature dips and the energy spikes along Calle Moro on Playa Zicatela, the main drag of bohemian beach bars. Check out Revolucion for drinks, Costenito for ceviche, or the famous tlayuda lady who grills up local Oaxacan specialties behind the Oxxo convenience store. Nothing says palate cleanser like a hookup before (and after?) some tasty tacos dorados. -- Meagan Drillinger

Museum of Broken Relationships

The Museum of Broken Relationships

A cultural institution specifically designed for letting go of your emotional baggage You’ve unfriended and unfollowed them, disposed of their belongings, and wiped all physical traces of them from your life. But inevitably there’s something -- some worthless trinket heavy with meaning and memory -- that you can neither throw away nor keep in your house any longer. Enter the Museum of Broken Relationships , where unwanted tokens and digital stories are donated by broken-hearted people around the world. There are two permanent museum outposts in Zagreb, Croatia and Los Angeles, California, as well as various traveling exhibitions -- all of which will accept the detritus of your doomed dalliance.

Whether or not you’re donating an item, it’s worth spending some time at the exhibit in solidarity with your fellow survivors. Each memento is displayed with a note penned by the former owner. They range from the devastating (“This iron was used to iron my wedding suit. Now it is the only thing left”) to the cathartic (“I never stopped loving her for a moment and I'm happy for her”) to straight-up gems like “Darling, should you ever get a ridiculous idea to walk into a cultural institution like a museum for the first time in your life, you will remember me.” Laugh, cry, and when you’re ready to leave it all behind you, walk out the door and directly to the nearest bar. -- Sarah Theeboom

Ogunquit Maine

Maine’s beaches

It’s impossible to stay sad when you’re in Vacationland When you’re looking for the perfect place to stare into the ocean waves and think long and hard about your life choices, head to Ogunquit, Maine, whose name translates to “beautiful place by the sea." The sandy beaches and brilliantly blue water are the stuff of much warmer destinations. But how many of those will sell you crustaceans by the pound?

Go wander the mile-or-so Marginal Way that meanders along the sea from idyllic Perkins Cove. Head far from the maddening crowd to Footbridge Beach, a quiet corner on the northern edge of bustling Ogunquit Beach to spread your towel and soak up some sun. For lunch, head to Barnacle Billy’s which has been helping people eat their feelings since 1961. Work on your beach bod with a lobster roll and a pint of locally brewed beer (check the menu for the Maine Brewing Company’s Peeper Ale).

Spend the afternoon hiking through nature preserves in nearby Wells, watching a play at the Ogunquit Playhouse, fishing for an elusive blue lobster, or simply watching the waves while swiping Tinder. When evening falls, head a few miles up the coast to check into Kennebunkport’s 100-year-old Colony Hotel . It’s impossible to feel down when surrounded by happy pups in a hotel that is so dog friendly they have pug upholstery on the sofas in the cozy lobby. -- Melissa Locker

cruise

A cruise. Really, any cruise.

Ocean views, rebound targets galore, and a total inability to stalk your ex Sometimes a cliche is a cliche because it’s true. When it comes to cruises, as with picking yourself up after a breakup, there’s a lot of truth in this one: It’s not the destination. It’s the journey.

Certain destinations that might be better fits for your specific state of mind. For deep introspection, take in some Alaskan vistas, weaving among fjords and feeling a chill in your lungs. Try a beach vibe if you want to compare tan lines with other fellow travelers out for the same thing you are. In any case, the point really isn’t the destination. The point is spending days or even weeks on this floating island, surrounded by beautiful views and affable strangers. Cruises force you to be as social as possible, so there’s no room to grouse. You’re bound to make a friend, and, wouldn’t you know? That friend now lives just a deck or two away. What you and other consenting adults get up to in confined quarters in the middle of an ocean are very much up to y’all.

As for a bug that’s actually a feature: The price of internet on a cruise ship tends to run around $0.75 a minute. Cyberstalking your ex on Instagram is, in this case, for once, literally not worth it. -- Vivian Kane

brewing

Santa Barbara, California

Okay, so that three-year relationship and condo in Boston didn’t work out. Now ask yourself: do you heal your soul in the ocean or in the mountains? Either way, you’ll arrive in Santa Barbara, where you can have both at the same time, plus much more. Every “California time out” properly begins by the sea: East Beach is a local fave as is Hendry’s Beach, where you can brunch at Boathouse with your toes in the sand. Stearns Wharf will follow with clam chowder at Santa Barbara Shellfish Company and rosé at Deep Sea Wine Tasting Room . Ready to hit the town and rebound? The Funk Zone boasts an Urban Wine trail with more than 20 tasting rooms; if beer is your swill, Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. has craft brew, a patio, and live music on tap. Hit up a stranger for serious opinions about chowder.

Hike up to Inspiration Point for panoramic views of the Pacific and a chance to get artsy -- hikers rearrange rocks into sculptures at the top. Exercise and art have a way of helping you Figure Out the Big Shit, so also hit up the Santa Barbara Museum of Art , Old Mission , and State Street’s local arts and crafts show every Sunday. Also worth a mention: Jenna Dewan jet-setted to Santa Barbara after her breakup earlier this year. If she can get over Channing Tatum, you’re going to be just fine. -- Brooke Sager

bermuda

A peaceful, polite paradise around the corner from the East Coast. A solo beach vacation might be just what you need to fully embrace your newly single status. Cancun seems a bit much -- college students offering to buy you tequila shots is a later phase of this process. Choose under-stimulation for a while and find Bermuda , probably the most beautiful island you can reach in 2-ish hours for 300ish dollars from New York. You’ll go from crying on a sidewalk to day-drinking by turquoise waters in less time it takes to muster up the strength to block your ex on Facebook.

Bermuda has 34 stunning beaches to choose from. As you gorge on sun, carve out at least a day to lay on the pink sands of the world-famous Horseshoe Bay, which leads to a long stretch of beach dotted with smaller coves -- perfect for private meditation or the occasional sobfest. Culturally, the British territory leans conservative. Sunbathing topless is prohibited, skimpy clothing is frowned upon, and approaching a local without saying “good morning/afternoon” is downright rude. Translation: solo travelers won’t have to deal with unwanted shit-showy attention. If your post-breakup regimen involves more distraction than quiet self-reflection, Bermuda can get your pulse up: hit the bioluminescence boat tours, explore the otherworldly Crystal Caves, or scuba diving through sunken ships. You’ll soon be out of this wreckage. -- Alicia Lu

Western USA National Parks Loop

Our trip was great! Judd from Intrepid travel made the entire trip so easy and was so patient and quick to adapt to all of our requests. We had no issues the entire week. Accomondations were usually a LaQuinta and every day we had something cool planned to see.

3 Day Southwest USA National Parks Tour from Las Vegas Tour

3 Day Southwest USA National Parks Tour from Las Vegas

I don't like long rides, but the bus was comfortable and arrived right on time. The rides between stops were one or two hours, and the time moved along nicely, as the tour guide, named Indy, had us all fully engaged with stories and histories of where we were going. He was very knowledgeable, and the rides were a lot of fun. Everything, including the hotels and meals, went off without a single hiccup. Indy persuaded me to take the helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon, which I hadn't planned to take, but he was right, and I'm glad I took it. He engaged us in such a way that when we all went to our respective rooms for the nights, everyone came together for dinner, rather than going off as couples or singles. Then, while touring the canyons and trails, everyone chose to stay together, like a big family. This added to the experience in a positive way, and I can see how the tour guide made this all happen. He really solidified his group, and we all became good friends. After the tour ended with a trip back to the Mirage in Las Vegas, we all got together on our own, for dinner and drinks at The Venetian, where the wine was excellent, as wine often is when consumed with good friends. It was a memorable evening after a memorable three-day trip. Everyone has kept in touch, exchanging photos and Instagrams and stuff. We were dubious about finding a tour group and guide that were reputable, and we feel lucky to have found Bindlestiff and Indy. We have already decided to take another trip next year with the same organization. This tour met all our expectations, and really surpassed them, and I highly recommend Bindlestiff.

Magnificent West - 7 Days

Excellent tour stops and well worth the views. Plentiful bathroom and snack breaks, but the bus ride is long. However you cover 4 wonderful states, a drive I'd never do on my own. Edwardo was excellent tour guide and Roberto was nice but not as informative. Each hotel was clean and comfortable. Most offered a free hot breakfast. I recommend the tour and think it's a good value.

Our Tour guide, Wayne, was fantastic! He went above and beyond; to make sure we were comfortable on the bus and on the tours! He also got us as close as he could when there were animal sightings! Lane, our driver, was also an excellent driver; and he kept us safe on the narrow and winding Mountain roads! Hats off to these two!

Whether you're embarking on your first cruise alone or you've been on solo cruises before, single travelers will find more options than ever when it comes to cruising solo. Many cruise lines offer single staterooms with the same amenities as other cabins, at a price similar to what you'd pay with double occupancy fares. You'll also find special promotions where the single supplement fee is reduced or waived, making it more affordable to reserve a spacious stateroom or luxurious suite with even more amenities – including personalized butler service, an added perk of booking with many luxury lines .

18 Best Vacations for Single Guys

We call out some colleagues to find out some of the best vacations for single guys and the top vacation spots for them.

As a solo female traveler, I have always given tips on how to move around as a single girl, which are the easiest countries to get laid as a solo traveler, hooking up while traveling , backpacking sex , and tips on the safest cities in Europe for solo female travelers . If there was something hard for me to translate as a solo female, it is “How could I give some of these tips to solo male travelers?”

This blog post might include affiliate links that allows Traveleira to keep on operating without any additional cost for the readers. For each purchase done through these links, Traveleira receives a small commision. For any doubt, consult our Privacy Policy .

I decided to call out some colleagues to help me with these tips. I made a round-up with solo male travelers (and some girls with their significant others) to find the best vacations for single guys. Some colleagues recommend these places if you are planning your next solo adventure and maybe trying to find the best vacations for single guys to get laid . Let’s check out these travel destinations for single men!

Bali, Indonesia

[Kieren | Bali Untold]

A group of friends on a beach in Bali

Bali is one of the safest and easiest places for the best vacations for single guys. The locals are very welcoming, and there are many opportunities to meet fellow travelers through hostels, bars, tours, classes, workshops, and more.

As someone who has traveled solo across the island, I can highlight Canggu as one of the  best  places in Bali  to build new friendships. Frequent events will help you connect with other travelers and nomads with similar interests, whether fitness, eating out, or personal growth.

If you prefer a lively scene, Gili T is a partygoer island just a ferry ride from mainland Bali. Here, you’ll find an abundance of hostels and backpacker bars where it’s easy to mingle with other single  travelers. The hostels here usually host family dinners and group tours to encourage friendships.

Traveling solo is a great chance to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. And there’s no better place to do this than in Bali. The island is teeming with new experiences, whether taking your first yoga class, enrolling in a diving course, or participating in a craft workshop. There are ample opportunities to learn new skills and make new friends simultaneously.

If you’re having trouble connecting in person, there are many ways to make friends online. Bali has Facebook groups, Whatsapp chats, and online communities (such as nomeo.io ) that can help you make connections before landing!

Bangkok, Thailand

[Nicholas | The World Overload]

A guy looking at the view in Bangkok, Thailand

In Thailand, the city of Bangkok is hands down probably the place to go for the best vacations for single guys. As an international hub in Asia, you will meet other singles and groups visiting from all over the world. It’s also a cheap destination with plenty to do with food, culture, nightlife, and spirituality. You can spend weeks here if you choose without breaking your wallet.

Traveling solo, especially to another country, will always be great. It gets you out of your comfort zone and into the adventure life. Your schedule is what you make of it. Choose other activities aside from sightseeing, like a group cooking class or participate in a spiritual ceremony with monks . Choose an itinerary to see and do whatever you want (within reason). Just put yourself out there to gain new experiences and make friends, even during your time in Bangkok.

I came a day early before a tour and made friends with 2 South Africans just because we arrived at a bar simultaneously. We hung out for the nights, sharing stories and rounds and enjoying the city nightlife on Khao San Road, where all the backpackers hang out.

One advice is always to be aware of the customs and normal etiquette of where you will be. Too many travelers these days feel they are entitled to certain privileges and end up causing international incidents that could potentially ruin things for the rest of us. Don’t ruin it for everyone else. Be polite and respectful in Bangkok; you will have a blast here.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

[Chris | Aroundtheworldwithme.com]

Buildings and boats in Amsterdam

For a single, solo-traveling man, many European cities can be fun vacation spots for single guys. And perhaps nowhere exemplifies this more than Amsterdam. The Dutch capital city has everything from historic buildings to fascinating museums to epic nightlife. There is something for everyone in Amsterdam, and no one walks away, let down by the city.

For single men, joining an organized pub crawl around the city at night is fun. They run every night, as Amsterdam is a party city 7-days a week, and numerous companies offer them. It’s a great way to meet other singles and people traveling alone.

One of the more popular pub crawls takes you through some crowded bars in Amsterdam’s Red Light District . However, other pub crawls don’t involve the world’s most famous adult playground.

During the daylight hours, you’ll have a marvelous time walking around the city alone, with no one to slow you down. Set out on a self-guided walking tour along the historic canals, being sure to stop by Dam Square, the Anne Frank House, and Museumplein, among other beautiful spots. Or better yet, rent a bike and cycle like a local!

Another great way to meet people when traveling as a single man in Amsterdam is to stop by one of the city’s many quiet, laid-back craft beer bars, such as Proeflokaal Arendsnest or the Beer Temple. Whatever you choose to do with your time in Amsterdam, you certainly won’t be disappointed!

Phuket, Thailand

[Sean | TravelThailandTogether]

A colorful sign during the night in Phuket

Phuket in Thailand is a goldmine for  single   guys looking for an exciting social scene. The island’s vibrant nightlife, friendly locals, and fellow tourists create a laid-back atmosphere for making new friends and potential dates.

If meeting new people is high on your agenda, Patong Beach’s Bangla Road is your go-to. It’s the heart of Phuket’s night scene with a lively mix of bars, clubs, and beach parties, making it easy to converse with locals and other travelers. The area is filled with backpacker hostels with solo travelers eager to make friends and go out.

The Thai people are known for their friendliness, which extends to their interactions with tourists. This welcoming nature can make socializing and dating more comfortable and enjoyable. The language barrier isn’t as daunting as expected, as English is commonly spoken in Thailand , especially in tourist areas.

Meeting people doesn’t just happen during the night in Phuket. During the day, group activities such as diving trips, island hopping, or cooking classes are great ways to meet other travelers. The island is full of activities that attract a diverse crowd, so you’ll inevitably meet some people with like-minded interests.

Marbella, Spain

[Charlie | Everything Marbella ]

best tourist destinations for singles

Two guys smiling at the camera in Marbella

Marbella, situated on Spain’s Costa del Sol, is an ideal vacation spot for solo male travelers seeking relaxation, adventure, and social interaction. Beyond its luxury and celebrity glamor reputation, Marbella offers a lively party scene, particularly in Puerto Banús, where beach clubs, bars, and nightclubs buzz with activity and world-class DJs. It’s a great place to dance the night away and meet fellow singles.

There are also a lot of activities that singles can participate in to meet other people, from hiking groups that regularly hit the countless mountain trails to scuba diving clubs where everyone gets together post-dive for a drink (or two) to decompress.

Having lived here for over 20 years, I can confirm that the city’s reputation as a hub for outgoing people who love to get together is well-earned. The social scene is a big draw, blending cultures and endless opportunities to meet others. Whether on the beach or in a nightclub, there are plenty of opportunities to connect with new people.

Solo travel is a liberating experience, allowing you to make choices and gain confidence. Marbella embodies this spirit, enabling solo adventurers to enjoy their independence while providing a friendly environment for meeting others.

The key to a fulfilling trip for solo male travelers is to remain open-minded and proactive. You will meet other singles here in Marbella, especially in the busy summer months, but it’s about making things happen for yourself rather than waiting for them to come to you.

Go for that drink, buy a ticket to that party, say ‘hello’ to that person…

English Harbor, Antigua & Barbuda

[Sara and Carl | Big Adventures with Little Feet]

The Antigua Yatch Club in English Harbor during the night

If you want to travel solo and meet new people for the best vacations for single guys, I’d highly recommend heading to Antigua, especially if you’re into sailing and other water sports. I’ve lived in English Harbour in Antigua (the mecca for sailing in the Caribbean) for the last three winters.

There are a lot of solo travelers in English Harbour, mainly because it has a constant flow of yacht crew coming and going, and most of them are looking to meet new people. Also, Antiguans are amazingly friendly towards solo travelers, and you’ll find that if you spend time in some of the local bars, you’ll quickly start making new friends.

Through my job, I’ve done a lot of solo traveling. I’ll often work with an owner and their family onboard their yacht, and when we’re ashore, I’ll go off exploring on my own. I’m happy in my company; however, sometimes it’s nice to make new friends and initiate conversation.

The best advice I can give is “Don’t judge a book by its cover” when meeting new people. You’ll sometimes meet the coolest new friends simply by being open to being approached and chatting with them.

And it’s all about being in the right place to meet new people. I often head to a pool bar when I get into a port, wait for a table to open up, and then offer to play for the table. If you sail, you can make new friends by crewing on yachts, particularly during some race weeks.

Bourbon Trail, Kentucky, USA

[ Mike & Sara | Our Campfire Unplugged]

Whiskey display on the bourbon trail

Traveling Kentucky’s Bourbon Trail is a one-of-a-kind sensory overload experience and could make one of the best vacations for single guys. From the fantastic aromas of the sour mash cooking to the endless flavors dancing around your mouth while tasting fine Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey!

Solo travelers have several options when exploring Kentucky’s Bourbon Trail! Don’t worry, you won’t be drinking alone!

Kentucky welcomes visitors from all over the world to explore the Bourbon Trail. Bourbon brings people together!

As a Kentucky native , I’ve traveled the trail solo and with friends. Both are fun ways to experience the trail. When I visit distilleries alone, I’m quickly paired with an existing tour group. Everyone on the tour becomes instant friends, sharing knowledge and stories of Kentucky Bourbon.

I was the only member on a recent Kentucky Artisan’s Distillery tour. I received the high-end white glove tour. Instead of a quick run-through, I had the tour guide’s undivided attention and had the chance to get all my questions answered.

As the bourbon industry has grown, Kentucky is home to 95 distilleries and 11.4 million barrels of bourbon, so that you can join a full-day tour.

My favorite distilleries are Makers Mark and Woodford Reserve. The halls are decked for Christmas at Makers Mark. The historical buildings at Woodford Reserve are gorgeous.

As a Kentucky native, I recommend joining a professional tour like Mint Julep Tours , Kentucky Bourbon Boys , or Travel the Trail . These tour guides handle all the details, like booking your tour at the distillery, lunch, and, most importantly, driving! Tours typically start at a central location in downtown Louisville, like the Marriott or Galt House .

[Sally | Sally Sees]

A Boat in the sea in Belize

Traveling solo can be lonely, but Belize is a great destination for solo  guys looking to meet other travelers,  guys,  or girls.

Because it is such a small country, travelers are usually clustered in a few popular locations, like Caye Caulker, Ambergris Caye, and San Ignacio. There is a fun and social vibe in all these places, and while Belize doesn’t have a huge party or nightclub scene, there’s always something fun going on and great hostels, too.

Chances are, if you make friends in one location, you’ll meet them again a few days later somewhere else!

Many of the best things to do in Belize can only be done via an organized tour. Activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, trekking inside caves, or ziplining have to be done with a tour operator, which means single   guys will meet other travel companions and won’t have to do things alone if they don’t want to. It also means there aren’t any increased costs to being solo, as most things are priced per person.

One of the  best  things for  guys  to include on their  Belize itinerary is an overnight sailing trip from Caye Caulker. Three days sailing through the Belize Barrier Reef, snorkeling on pristine coral reefs, spearfishing, and camping on remote cayes with many new friends? It’s guaranteed to be a highlight of your solo trip to Belize!

Milan, Italy

[Kenny | Knycx Journeying]

Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele in Milano

Located in Northern Lombardy, Milan is a global capital of fashion and design with a rich history. While Milan was built for centuries, the city layout is very easy to navigate, and it is also very walkable. Even if you do not want to walk, Milan has a wide range of bike-sharing and scooter-sharing available for single  travelers to easily navigate and explore several spots in the city within a day.

Milan is filled with  iconic landmarks and attractions . They are very close to one another – Duomo di Milano, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and Pinacoteca di Brera are all located within the city’s historic quarter. Therefore, solo travelers will not get bored admiring the magnificent architecture and the dramatic skyline on the roof of the stunning cathedral.

A solo trip to Milan is also a wonderful opportunity for art lovers to appreciate world-famous art pieces at your own pace. The Last Supper is showcased at the Last Supper Museum next to Santa Maria delle Grazie; for contemporary art, a visit to Fondazione Prada is a fulfilling experience, with both temporary and permanent artworks of celebrated artists like Jeff Koons.

Traveling solo in Milan is generally safe. Take the usual precautions, and feel free to explore the avenues and streets from Via Monte Napoleone to Via Brera. Enjoy shopping for various fashion brands, or sit down at one of the outdoor cafés, meet with other fellow travelers, and share your experience and ideas for your trip.

Cartagena, Colombia

[Adam | CartagenaExplorer.com]

A rooftop in Cartagena, Colombia

Cartagena, Colombia, is one of the best vacations for single   guys . It has a vibrant culture, fun nightlife, and year-round beach weather. If you’re single  and looking to mingle, it is also popular with many female travelers from around the world, not to mention is home to some of Colombia’s most beautiful women. That all easily makes it one of the  best   vacations  for  single   guys .

There is quite a bit to do in Cartagena, but an absolute must is exploring the Walled City, or Centro Histórico, and neighboring Getsemaní, where you’ll find many of the  best  restaurants and cafes nestled in old colonial buildings along narrow streets. These historic districts are also where you’ll find the  best  Cartagena nightlife .

They are also the  best areas where most of the city’s hostels are. Staying in a hostel as a single guy traveling can be a great way to meet others easily, and there is a range of hostels, from cheaper backpacker hostels to higher-end boutique hostels that offer private rooms. These historic districts have plenty of hotel and AirBnB options at all prices.

Getting out to the nearby Rosario Islands is also a must and can be done via day tours or spending the night at one of the resorts or eco-lodges. If you make a few friends, a private boat rental can be fun and a great way to explore the islands. Finally, enjoy a drink with the view from the rooftop bar at Hotel Movich, the best  view in the city.

Beaches in Goa, India

When it’s time to choose a destination, the best vacations for single guys looking for fun in the sun, good company, and new adventures, it’s hard to beat Goa, India . As soon as you arrive, you’ll feel the laidback, friendly vibe that makes Goa a welcoming place for solo travelers. The stunning beaches are dotted with beach shacks serving up cold beers, delicious fresh seafood, and new friends from around the globe.

Barcelona, Spain

[Timon | TravelSpain24.com]

Plaça Reial in the evening

Traveling solo can be daunting, but choosing  the right  destination makes a huge difference . As a guy who loves to travel alone, I’ve found that Spain, especially Barcelona, is perfect for solo trips.

Even if you’re content with hanging out alone in Barcelona, you’ll find many ways to meet people and have fun. The city has many communities that help solo travelers connect with expats and other travelers for language exchanges, pub crawls, and even sporting activities like volleyball on the beach. So, while you’re sorting out  the  best  airline to fly to Spain , it is also worth checking out  some Barcelona Facebook groups . They’ve got all the latest info on what’s happening around the city.

Barcelona also has some great nightlife  too . If you’re visiting in summer, check out Plaça Reial. It’s where the younger crowd hangs out, especially around the fountain, and there is a very laid-back and chilled atmosphere. There are bars on the square, so it ’ s a  great place to meet people and maybe grab a drink with a new friend . You could also try a guided  pub crawl . These groups are often filled with couples and singles, and as you explore the city and enjoy  drinks  together, you can make some new travel buddies that you can meet up with again during your stay.

Traveling solo can sometimes be intimidating, especially when you’re in a new city and wandering around at night. Still, when you stick to the busy  tourist areas,  you’ll feel safer and  bump into loads of other travelers looking for a good time.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

[Anthony | GreenMochila.com]

La Boca in Buenos Aires

The capital of Argentina isn’t called the “Paris of South America” in vain. A European vibe mixes with its Latin flair, showing in its baroque architecture and the face of the  Porteños  – as its inhabitants are called.

The Porteños differ from the Parisians in their friendliness, which hasn’t been abated by decades of economic recession. Argentines are open and talkative; many could readily invite foreigners to a drink, a party, or at least to share a mate , their traditional infusion drink.

Hostels are often a good place to make travel buddies. If you’re looking into making connections during your trip, ensure your accommodation provides cool common spaces where people want to chill. Online reviews give a good idea of what to expect in that respect.

Another way to make connections in Buenos Aires, either friendly or romantic, is to hang out in the city’s many bars and clubs. Each neighborhood has its own identity and attracts different types of people. Find the barrio that matches your style, be open, and you’re sure to meet like-minded individuals. As a pointer, Palermo is trendy, San Telmo is Boheme, Almagro is local, and Flores is too far.

Unlike other European capital cities, Buenos Aires is also charmingly safe. Going out alone is fine, even at night, provided you stick to busy areas. As a rule of thumb, turn back if a street is empty. You should also avoid some “spicy” neighborhoods, like La Boca (outside Caminito) and the city’s Northern outskirts.

As South American travel specialists, we provide insightful tips and recommended destinations for your backpacking trip to Argentina .

Arches in Utah

I never thought I would have such strong feelings about the state of Utah. Still, I am encouraging solo travelers, specifically male travelers, to put it on their shortlist for future trips and take their best vacations for single guys.

Utah is a fairly big state, so let’s focus on its national parks and the areas surrounding those parks. If you enjoy hiking and other outdoor activities, a road trip through the Big 5 is necessary. This includes Arches National Park, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Zion.

If you choose, it is the perfect opportunity to connect with nature and your fellow man. If seeking seclusion, you can certainly find it within Capitol Reef National Park’s trails or in the depths of a slot canyon like Little Wild Horse.

Moab, home to Arches, is a vibrant town full of locals and travelers with similar interests in hiking and nature. Chat up a new friend or an active lady at Moab Brewery. You may find a new hiking buddy. I did that myself, befriending one of the Spanish Valley Vineyard & Winery staff. Before I knew it, I was picking her up for a sunrise hike the next morning.

The key as any solo traveler, male or female, is to connect genuinely with others on things you have in common. Utah is ripe with other outdoors enthusiasts, making it easy to do just that.

Seville, Spain

[Chris and Eleanor | Elevate Your Scapes]

Alcazar in Seville, Spain

Seville is a place for the best vacations for single guys. The city is bustling, has good nightlife, is easy to get to, and has many other singles.

The city has a rich history with lots to see. In the historic center, the Cathedral of Seville and the Alcazar, a royal palace with exquisite gardens, are among the most popular. The Plaza de España offers a picturesque setting with its stunning architecture and a canal. Nearby, Maria Luisa Park is a peaceful retreat in the city’s heart.

Seville has many winding, narrow, cobblestone streets with charming cafes, tapas bars, and local markets. Meeting others while dining over tapas and wine in the evening is easy.

As a single traveler, Seville’s friendly and welcoming atmosphere ensures you’ll find opportunities to connect with locals and fellow travelers alike. To meet people, you can join walking tours, pub crawls, cooking classes, or other meet-ups to make new connections. Many travelers follow the same route around Spain from Madrid to Seville, Granada, and Malaga . You can travel together or with those you’ve met in other cities.

I like to travel solo because I can stay on my schedule. Traveling solo doesn’t mean you’ll always be alone – get out there and meet others!

Mexico City, Mexico

[Robin | Let’s Travel To Mexico City]

Robin overseeing Mexico City

Mexico City is a destination for the best vacations for single guys. The city has a bustling nightlife and plenty of cultural activities, and here it’s easy to meet people if you want to.

The best neighborhood for a solo traveler to stay in is Roma Norte, which has a central location, is safe, and has a great selection of restaurants and bars. Depending on your budget, you can stay in a hostel, my favorite way to meet other travelers and stay social, or rent an apartment or a room.

If you’re in for a date, check out Bumble or Badoo; Tinder also works. Another good way to meet people is by joining one of the expat Facebook groups – Expats in Mexico is one of the biggest. You can just pop a message that you’re looking for people wanting to go sightseeing together, go on a day trip to Teotihuacan or Xochimilco, or go out.

Apart from going out, I highly recommend attending a lucha libre show in Mexico City. You can either just show up or book a tour with tacos and some drinks if you would rather do it in a group.

A Solo Cruise

[Karen | Forever Karen]

A pool in a cruise ship

Cruising isn’t just for couples and families; it’s for singles and solo travelers, too. While cruise lines charge a double occupancy rate on their staterooms, Norwegian, Holland America, Cunard, Royal Caribbean, and Celebrity Cruises have studio or solo cabins, allowing you to forego the  single  supplement.

Solo cruising  isn’t the  best  option for introverts. But, if you’re outgoing and want to meet other  single  travelers, the cruise lines host solo and  single  events. You can connect with others, make dinner plans, and plan shore excursions together by attending an event or two. Major cruise lines also host LGBTQ meet-ups.

The Caribbean and Mexican Riviera are great options for  single  males. While these destinations tend to attract younger adults, you will find a mix of age groups.

Traveling alone can be a great experience. Being on a cruise ship gives you a controlled environment that’s safe and fun. Onboard, the activities and entertainment never end. All cruise ships have gyms, casinos, basketball courts, and pools to enjoy on sea days.

You’ll have many dining options, from a casual buffet to tantalizing specialty restaurant choices. You can change your plans each day; dining alone or sitting with others.

With multiple bars and lounges, you’ll have a chance to meet other singles. Sometimes, those meetings lead to partnerships, marriage, or long-term friendships. These are some of the best vacations for single guys, hands down.

Traveling single? Small group travel could be just the ticket

Is a Japanese onsen calling you? Or maybe a flavor-packed taco in the streets of Mexico City has your name on it? Whether you’re traveling solo, single or simply can’t be labeled, our small group tours are the perfect way to explore a destination and meet like-minded people. While our tours aren’t exclusively for single travelers in their 50s or 60s , you'll be part of a small group of intergenerational, adventure-hungry individuals who are just as keen to explore as you are. From swapping anecdotes over Aperols on the Amalfi Coast to late-night chats under the desert skies of Wadi Rum, it’s often those moments of connection – big and small – that are most memorable.

Perks of traveling single with Intrepid

Travelers toasting on an Intrepid tour in Morocco

Single and keen to mingle?

Our trips can be great for singles over 50 and 60 as we take care of safety, logistics and transport so you can focus your time on the joy of travel. We don’t offer the classic ‘singles-only’ tours, but we do provide the perfect base for people looking to get to know others, usually a varied mix of ages, nationalities, cultures and more. Since our tours are so diverse, this could mean you’re on a trip with couples in their 40s, singles in their 20s, family groups or people traveling on their own in their fifties and beyond. Our tours aren’t specifically designed for making perfect matches, but hey, if it happens, it  happens .

A group photo of travelers in Cape Agulhus, South Africa

Small numbers, big sites

The best part of traveling in a small group is the friends you can make in the most unlikely of places – we’re talking while hiking the Inca Trail or cooking dhal in  Sri Lanka . It also means a bunch of new faces to share the world’s most epic experiences with and a few people around to watch your back (especially when walking through a traffic crossing in Vietnam ). No matter who you’re sharing your tour with, you’ll be docking at unbelievable sites, meeting local people and getting a one-of-a-kind journey - single or not, we think that's pretty epic.

Woman walking on a forest path in Victoria, Australia

Safety and logistics

Traveling solo at any age can feel like a big deal, especially when venturing to far-off places. That’s why small group tours are the perfect fit, no matter if you’re traveling alone at 25 or 65. We’ll do the planning, manage the itinerary, handle the transport and keep safety in mind - all so you can immerse yourself to the max. Not to mention, your guide will be able to support you with potential language barriers, give recommendations, show you the best spots for photos and so much more. Don’t just take our word for it, find out for yourself.

A leader talking with travelers on the Italian Coast

Local knowledge and unique perspectives

Maybe you’ve already seen the big sites and now looking for a different experience or new perspective. That’s where we come in. Our tours are led by our Local Leaders, all of whom are experts in their corner of the world and are out there showing it to others right now. Their knowledge of their country’s attractions, delicacies, cultures and communities is something you probably won’t get to experience elsewhere. Find yourself ducking into unknown hotspots and learning more than just the basics when you’re on one of our tours.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Who are Intrepid travelers?

Intrepid adventures are for travelers with a yearning to get off the beaten track. Whether you're traveling solo, with a group of friends, or are aged 18 or 70, there is an Intrepid adventure to suit your interests and comfort level. Each Intrepid adventure has a physical and cultural grading to help you decide if the trip is right for you. No special skills are required for most adventures, just a sense of adventure and a curiosity about the world. Even on our camping adventures no previous experience is required; our tents are easy to set up, even for first-time campers.

Are there age restrictions on your trips?

For the majority of our trips the minimum age is 15. An adult must accompany all children under the age of 18. Our Overland Adventures have a minimum age of 18. Younger children can join us on our Family trips and Short Break Adventures, but check each trip for its minimum age, which is located on the trip’s overview page on the website. Most of our trips don’t have a maximum age limit, but a Self-Assessment Form is required for all passengers 70 years and over.

How many people will be on my trip?

Good things come in small packages, which is why we keep our group sizes down. This means we’re small enough to remain flexible as we thread our way through communities without intimidating the locals. On most of our trips you’ll be part of an intimate group of 12-16 people, though our group sizes are on average 10 people. Our Overland trips are in purpose-built vehicles that can carry up to 24 travelers. Group sizes are displayed on each trip’s overview page on our website.

I’m traveling alone – is that OK?

This is the beauty of the Intrepid style of travel: many of our travelers join because they are traveling solo and want to meet and share experiences with like-minded people.

Learn more about solo travel

I have a disability – can I join an Intrepid trip?

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. We ask that you carefully consider whether you are physically and mentally able to complete the itinerary you have chosen, recognizing that on many trips you will be required to carry your own bags and use public transport.

Where we can we will make reasonable adjustments to the operation of our trips to facilitate the requirements of disabled travelers – such as booking ground floor accommodation, or having our leaders communicate important directions in writing as well as verbally. Many travelers with disabilities have been able to enjoy our trips by traveling with a friend or companion who can assist with specific needs. If joining a group trip is not practical we may be able to provide you with a private departure. Please contact our sales team for further information on any of our itineraries.

Learn more about accessible travel with Intrepid

Do I need to buy travel insurance?

Travel insurance is compulsory on all our trips if you’re traveling internationally. Minimum coverage may differ from trip to trip, so make sure you check the Travel Insurance section in your Essential Trip Information. You will not be permitted to join the group until your leader has sighted your insurance policy number and the insurance company's 24-hour emergency contact number – it’s really important there are no barriers to getting emergency assistance for you.

Will I have my own room?

It's your call. Rooming on our trips is organized on a twin-share basis, but most of our trips also have the option to pay an extra fee for your own room. Just let us know at the time of booking and we'll arrange it for you.

For twin-share rooms, we pair up solo travelers with another traveler of the same gender as per the gender marker on each of their passports. As a responsible tour operator, we strive to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. In the case that your gender identity differs from what's indicated on your passport, please contact us so that we can discuss rooming options with you.

On a small selection of itineraries some accommodations are booked on an open-gender, multi-share basis. In those instances it will clearly be stated in your Essential Trip Information.

How does group time work?

Whether you’re traveling alone or with a partner, our trips have a set itinerary. But within that there’s time set aside for your own exploration (if you want to – no pressure). Depending on how you're feeling, you may want to have some downtime, ask your guide for a few tips then head out alone, or hang out with the group and see where the day takes you.

What makes a small group tour better than a coach tour?

The main difference between a small group tour and a coach tour is the size of the group; our tours have 10 travelers each (on average) while coaches can hold up to 60 people. This means that you'll never have to vie for your leader's attention on a small group tour because you'll automatically have it.

With hundreds of young, single travelers from around the world descending on the continent each year, you’ll constantly meet new people wherever you travel.

Vibrant cities, great nightlife, good food, cheap drinks, and beautiful beaches in Southeast Asia  are the best vacation spots for single guys who want to get laid.

Today I’m going to share with you ten of the best places to travel as a single man , to help inspire you for your next trip.

Siargao, Philippines

Siargao in the Philippines is a surfer town, which is the type of place that always attracts a great, interesting crowd of singles. Plenty of single guys travel here for the surf and sun, and after a day of hitting the waves, everyone will hang out at the relaxed bars and hostels in the area.

There are plenty of other activities to do here, even if you aren’t into surfing, and day trips are the perfect way to form a connection with solo female travelers.

In fact, the most popular tourist trap in Siargao is Cloud 9, which is well-known for its perfect surfing conditions. However, you don’t have to be a surfer to enjoy the boardwalk, amazing restaurants, and picturesque sunsets and sunrises that the location provides.

Mad Monkey , which is actually a 7-minute walk away from Cloud 9, is a great hostel choice here and is considered one of the best party chain hostels from Southeast Asia.

They regularly organize pool parties, beer pong championships, and some other drinking games. Perfect place to meet new girls and add a new page to your journal.

One of the top recommendations for the best solo vacations for guys is also Singapore. This modern, flashy city appeals to young travelers in their late 20s and 30s and is the perfect vacation for a single man.

You’ll feel like you’re living the highlife by day, with the incredible architecture of the city. By night, immerse yourself in the city’s party scene, with a fantastic array of nightclubs and bars .

It’s certainly not the cheapest option on this list but will give you some of the most memorable nights of your time in Southeast Asia. Clarke Quay is my favorite area to party in, and I had a few wild nights out at the club Zouk there.

Time your night right and you might even get to see a world-famous DJ like Tiësto. Singapore doesn’t have as many party hostels, but it has some really friendly and sociable ones.

I only stayed 3 nights at the Bohemian Chic hostel but I had a fantastic time. I was lucky enough to find a nice group to hang out with from the first day I arrived here. If you looking for a place to stay in Singapore , check our guide .

Usually, I like staying and drinking in the hostel because I always find people to have fun with (and is also cheaper), but Singapore is way too good for a night out so you better go and enjoy the nightlife.

Due to its cultural diversity, Singapore is host to a wide selection of hawker-style vendors, each offering either Chinese, Indian, or Malay-style dishes.

If you love tasting new things, this gives you the chance to try different foods from the various cultures of Southeast Asia. If you are looking for good places to eat in Singapore, restaurant’s recommendation guide .

If you are looking to enjoy Southeast Asia’s stunning beaches, head to Kuta in Bali. It’s a busy beach town that is known for its surfing and nightlife, which makes it another single men’s vacation paradise.

Try to find a sociable hostel here, where you can play drinking games such as beer pong or King’s Cup . This game is one of my favorites to play to start a night out, and in Kuta, I had some wild times during and after it!

As for the party hostels, I have 2 recommendations here.

If you are looking to stay in the center of the party scene, I’d recommend Cara Cara Inn.

If you don’t care where you stay because you prefer partying in a hostel instead of going for a night out, then go for Lay Day Surf Hostel.

What makes Kuta, Bali a good vacationing spot is that there are a lot of activities that cater to singles. This location attracts a lot of nomadic travelers who are on their own, so often times people are looking to pair up when they’ve had their fill of solo trekking.

  • Gili Trawangan

Another great spot in Indonesia is Gili Trawangan. If you are looking to scuba dive for the first time, Gili Trawangan offers many dive schools to get your open water certification.

But by nighttime, it’s a hotspot for backpackers who love to party. It’s the best of the three Gili Islands for partying and attracts a young, fun crowd. My favorite night out here was on Friday nights at Rudy’s, but I also loved The Irish Pub.

Gili Trawangan is a very well-known destination for revelers and there are multiple choices when it comes to party hostels.

My favorite party hostel here is Gili Castle. It has a swimming pool with a rock-climbing wall, and some amazing parties and events. If you are looking for one of the best solo vacations for guys, book ahead of time to stay here.

I personally didn’t stay in this hostel but I met some people who were staying there and I spent a few days there. It’s really cool and I like the parties and the vibe.

Gili Castle Hostel Gili Trawangan

My second favorite party hostel, where I’ve stayed for a few nights in Gili Trawangan is Mad Monkey Hostel. This hostel is always packed with a lot of girls, ready to drink and party 24/7.

They have happy hours, daily tours, drinking games, pub crawls, and pretty much everything you need to enjoy yourself.

mad monkey gili trawangan vacations for single men

Another good option is My Mate’s Place. They sell super cheap drinks and are a good place to meet new people. In 2019, this hostel won the Best Hostel in Indonesia award, so it’s worth a try.

My Mate's Place Gili Trawangan

Something I also really liked about Gili Trawangan is that there’s hardly a place where you can be secluded because the island is always so packed and lively.

Most people are there to enjoy the beaches, clubs, and villas, which means if you do travel here alone, there’s a good chance it won’t stay that way.

Note. On this island, every accommodation provider offers rooms with a maximum of 3 beds in each room. You won’t find any hostel having more than 3 beds in one room.

Vang Vieng, Laos

Vang Vieng is a great spot in Laos to spend a few days and is a great vacation for a single guy. I’d recommend at least three days here, but more if you are looking to party and meet other people.

Vang Vieng is touted as being one of the biggest party towns in southeast Asia. Many people from all over the world come to engage in the activities that usually take place near the town’s shallow river.

However, aside from its party scene, the town also offers Korean restaurants and interestingly, a Mexican restaurant called Amigos, which is praised by many.

There are some fun daytime activities here, including tubing and kayaking. By night, the young backpacker crowd makes for a fun time for single guys.

Nana Backpacker Hostel is well known in Vang Vieng as a place to travel for single men and women. They have a swimming pool, a good restaurant, a bar, a pool table, and even a gym.

During my 6 days stay, this hostel was packed every day with young and open-minded travelers.

Nana Backpackers Hostel Vang Vieng - known for single men

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Pub Street is the best area for nightlife in Cambodia , and it’s where you’ll want to spend most of your vacation when you’re not visiting the main sights. Siem Reap is one of the best vacation spots to get laid, with cheap bars and a fun crowd.

What makes Pub Street so much fun is that all sorts of local and foreign food joints line the strip. These joints include Korean and European-style dishes, along with imported drinks.

The bars and pubs are all within walking distance of each other. So, you’re bound to grab a friend or two during your bar-hopping session.

Angkor What? The bar is my favorite in the town, and every night it’s packed with visitors. I loved my stay at Mad Monkey Siem Reap.

I particularly enjoyed its rooftop beach bar, where I met some amazing girls and lads. The bar is open really late each night, and as the hostel fits so many guests, there’s always an ever-changing crowd.

  • Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City is the starting point for most visitors to Vietnam and is one of the best vacation spots for single guys in their 30s . The city has some fantastic attractions and history, but if you come at nighttime, it comes alive in a different way.

I visited here 2 times before and always met some amazing people to enjoy nights out with. If you’ve never tried a pub crawl before, this is the perfect place to do so, and I’d recommend the Pub Crawl Saigon .

If you don’t know what’s a pub crawl , is when you meet with a large group of travelers and spend the night hopping from bar to bar. It’s a great time for everyone involved, with plenty of drinks.

After traveling in Southeast Asia for years, I strongly believe that Ho Chi Minh is in the top #5 best vacation for a single man to get laid.

It also helps that Ho Chi Minh is home to some of the most stunning rooftop bars in the world, including the popular Chill Skybar . If you want to enjoy the nightlife from above, the Chill Skybar provides a beautiful and romantic panoramic view of the neon-lit city below.

From happy hour onwards, the bar livens up quite a bit, as the DJs start playing faster-paced music and all items become half-priced.

catalin geangos

The Hideout Hostel Saigon is one of my top choices for a party hostel in the city. It has a bar and a terrace upstairs which is a great place to start any night out and meet girls who are staying there.

They do pub crawls every week, drinking games, happy hours, and usually is a very relaxed atmosphere. If you need to recover the next day, there’s a great chill-out room also.

Phi Phi, Thailand

Thailand is one of the best countries for a single guy to get laid. I’ve visited a lot of places and believe me when I say, Koh Phi Phi is probably the best party destination for single men.

Phi Phi Island is a hot spot for solo travelers who want to spend their summer vacation.

Specifically, Maya Bay, a beautiful white sand beach sporting massive limestone cliffs, is the main attraction of the island. The bay also has a bar with food, making it a great social area for anyone who’s alone.

I went with some friends from Phuket to this gorgeous island and I was not only impressed but amazed.

Every night is a party on the beach in Phi Phi . And I’m not talking about a party, but “the party”. Is one huge party on the whole beach, every night with several DJs playing live music.

Everything is so crazy, people are drunk and many times solo because is so easy to lose your friends. Overall, I had a great experience and I found it a really good place to meet women, including Thai women .

The downside is that the music stops at 1-2 a.m. and it kills the party. I never knew, why. Most of the people are going back to their accommodations but some people are remaining on the beach.

Doesn’t really matter in which hostel you staying in, they are all together. I’ve stayed in Blanco City, which is 3 minute walking to its brother, Blanco Beach Bar Hostel.

In the daytime is nothing crazy, people are going for island hopping or chilling on the beach.

  • Koh Phangan

I remember when Mark, a fellow traveler from the United States, asked me what are the best countries for single American guys to travel to. I instantly answered Thailand, among a few other countries.

Specifically, I’d recommend visiting Koh Phangan at the time of the Full Moon Party each month. This is a bucket list item for any trip to Thailand and attracts thousands of single men and women.

With parties every night leading up to the main event, it’s the perfect single guy’s vacation. One night before the Full Moon Party, don’t miss the Jungle Experience. This was one of my favorite nights of my time in Thailand, and it was a wild party deep in the Baan Tai jungle.

Learn everything about nightlife and parties in Koh Phangan

As a single guy, my social life is very welcoming and exciting. Something nice about the hostels, which seems to be really common on the island, is that a lot of activities are very inclusive. Excursions around the island can be arranged with anyone.

The Slumber Party hostel is one of the best party hostels in Thailand , with dorms and private rooms.

It has a great location and a social atmosphere. Every night (around Full Moon) they have DJs playing at their onsite bar. You won’t struggle to meet girls here, that’s for sure!

I remember coming very drunk in the morning after Full Moon Party and not less than 6 people had sex in the pool at 5-6 a.m. while some other people were drinking next to the pool, so no stress, student life. I like this life. But this is me 🙂

And by night..(excuse my ridiculous voice)

Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, is the best place for single guys to visit in Southeast Asia. Most visitors to Southeast Asia start or end their trip in Bangkok, and for anyone looking for the best vacation for a single man to get laid , this is the place.

While Las Vegas is known as the most famous sin city in the world, I would say Bangkok is sitting on the 2nd position.

Thailand has always been known for its sex tourism, so if you are unlucky at the end of the night, you can always stop in a red-light district to have some fun.

There are three major red-light district hotspots in Bangkok. These locations are Patpong, Soi Cowboy, and Nana Plaza.

Now, these locations aren’t active until after 7pm, but trust that when the time arrives, these three spots provide unique experiences to each of their travelers.

Make sure you spend a few days here, so you get the chance to meet new people. Learn when is the best time to visit Bangkok .

Most backpackers and partiers stay on Khao San Road , which is the main hub for young travelers. With pubs, music, and great street food, you’ll find hundreds of singles partying here each night.

Bangkok is very well known for the Thai ladyboys so be careful who you go home with.

If you are looking for a club experience in Bangkok, I’d recommend Onyx, which holds up to 2000 people a night. For anyone looking for the best vacations for single guys to get laid , make sure you pay attention to where you are staying.

Party hostels offer you the best chance to drink and go out every night with new girls and are the easiest way to meet new people.

In this article we will cover...

Gay Bangkok

Gay copenhagen, gay fort lauderdale, gay tel aviv, gay mykonos, gay amsterdam, gay hong kong, gay nashville, gay queenstown, gay chicago, gay rovaniemi, gay puerto vallarta, gay brisbane.

A fast-paced, lively city, Bangkok is a perfect gay destination if you fancy something a bit different and have tonnes of energy!

In Thailand, gay, lesbian , and trans lifestyles are generally accepted, and Bangkok is the hub of that. It’s popular with queer travelers for good reason: great shopping, affordability, delicious food, nightlife you’ll definitely want to write home about (although perhaps you shouldn’t!).

Go if: You want a gay holiday for singles that are all about adventure, wild nightlife, and doing as many different things as possible – not just sightseeing.

Sitges is a lovely resort town on Spain’s Costa Brava. Some visitors may ask, “where is the gay part of Sitges?” The answer: Sitges. In fact, in the peak travel season – that is, the summer months – there are more gay visitors to Sitges than there are straight ones.

So, to say that Sitges is gay friendly is quite an understatement, as the many gay bars and clubs in town demonstrate.

The main (but by no means only) draw for gay tourists in Sitges is the collection of gay beaches. Perhaps best known among them is the exclusively gay Playa del Muerto. Don’t let the name fool you, though: this beach is one lively place, not to mention one of the best places in town to meet guys.

Bassa Rodona is another beach in Sitges that is popular with the gay crowd. So popular, in fact, that it can get rather packed during the peak tourist season. The more, the merrier, they say, and with all those buff boys there to soak up the sun right along with you, there will be plenty of eye candy to keep you occupied. And you’ll be glad to know that there are several men-only resorts right there on the beachfront. Sitges is surely one of Europe’s gay travel gems and one of those destinations you really just can’t go wrong with.

Go if: You want a pumping gay beach right in the center of the village, wild nightlife, and not one but two discreet nudist beaches to wear nothing but flip flops …

Gay Sitges Spain

One of the world’s most LGBTQ-friendly cities where anyone is always welcome anywhere; there is a lot more to love about Gay Copenhagen than just its queer spirit and admirable history of promoting gay rights.

Copenhagen today is one of the world’s most sought after travel destinations defined by a gastronomical revolution fuelled by New Nordic cuisine, Danish design that embraces simplicity, detail, and minimalist beauty, and of course, there is all the museums and cultural treasure stretch back to the Viking for tourists to marvel over.

Add to this Copenhagen is one of the world’s most liveable cities filled with animated cycleways, world-class public transport, inviting public spaces which function as living rooms, and a full roster of events, and it is easy to see why everyone – gay, straight or unicorn – is flocking to this colorful and cool Scandinavian capital.

Go if: You want to experience an intrinsically progressive country and an edgy yet functional city with one of the world’s best pride festivals and more queer spirit than we can handle.

Home to over 100 gay-owned establishments, not to mention a wealth of both gay and gay-friendly beaches and that sweet Florida sunshine, it’s no wonder why Ft. Lauderdale is considered one of America’s best cities for gay tourists. It is Florida’s uncontested gay capital and so much more than just a spring breaks destination.

While the city as a whole has a very gay-friendly attitude, with the highest concentration of gay couples of any U.S. city, it is the gayborhood of Wilton Manors where most of the large gay scene in Ft. Lauderdale will be found. You’ll be hard-pressed to find better gay nightlife than here. It’s also a great place for cruising, with several prime cruising spots.

With so much to offer gay tourists, it is easy to see why so many choose to come back to Ft. Lauderdale year after year. Go cruising or lounge at the beach by day, hit the clubs and bars by night. It sounds like the good life, doesn’t it?

Go if: You love to stay in gay resorts and want to explore one of the most expansive and diverse gay scenes in the world.

Israel might be getting more conservative, but Tel Aviv remains a must-go destination among the gay community.

As well as world-famous nightlife, Tel Aviv also offers white sand beaches, Instagram-worthy markets, and delicious eats. Need any more persuading? An estimated 25% of the population is gay. Do we have to say more?

Go if: You want a beach covered in muscled hunks and cosmopolitan dining and nightlife.

For those who didn’t know: Berlin has one heck of a gay side. Though many might not think of Berlin as a haven for LGBTQ+ people, the truth is that Germany’s capital is one of the most gay-friendly major cities in Europe. It even has a bear as one of its symbols (though this is due to the fact that the bear features on the city’s coat of arms and is entirely coincidental; however, the bear, in this case, was meant to symbolize tolerance among different social and cultural groups).

But you may be asking: what is there to do in Berlin for gay tourists? The answer is quite a lot. The city is host to several large pride events, the biggest and most notable of which is CSD Berlin held every July since 1979. It is one of the biggest pride events on the entire continent.

The city has a collection of gay and gay-friendly hotels known as the Pink Pillow Berlin, to designate the best places for LGBTQ tourists to find safe and inviting accommodations. Berlin also has a multitude of gay bars and clubs, and even a gay museum. Gay visitors to Berlin will find a hidden gem once they give it a chance.

Go if: Your gay kinks tend towards the more niche side and you want somewhere to explore them with a welcoming and accepting community.

If this is your first single gay holiday, Mykonos might be the best place to start. Brilliantly gay-friendly and welcoming, Mykonos offers a paradise playground for gays looking for fun in the sun and all-night dancing. Similarly to Bangkok, anything goes in Mykonos’ gay clubs and summer festivals; you can always sunbathe the hangover off in one of the white-washed hotels.

An added attraction is the XISIOR International Summer Gay Festival: a week in August of beach partying with 30,000 other gays (hopefully mostly single too!).

Go if: You want hedonistic gay nightlife followed by days of tanning on sun-drenched and slightly cruisy beaches.

A grand metropolis of love, business, art, design, and shopping where queer people are embraced as a natural part of society, it’s no wonder Gay London is one of the world’s most famous LGBT travel destinations.

By day there are plenty of sexy English boys and girls picnicking in historic parks, wandering the banks of the Thames, or lazing around cafes in London’s gay areas but by night is when things really come alive. London is world renown as one of the greatest gay cities on Earth, and no trip here would ever be complete without visiting the expansive gay villages in the Soho and Vauxhall neighborhoods. As you will see, LGBT bars and clubs can be found all over Gay London, but it is within these two neighborhoods that you can really see gay life flourishing.

Energetic cafes, pubs, bars, clubs, and members-only organizations combine to offer a truly diverse range of nightlife entertainment – expand your horizons, London has everything you always knew you wanted…and surely if a few hidden delights you might never have considered.

Go if: You want a gay holiday for singles where you can live out your best queer life surrounded by world-class museums, haute couture shopping, iconic architecture, fine dining, and an utterly intoxicating atmosphere.

Some might say that Amsterdam is a city where hedonism reigns. And that is precisely what’s so great about it. Most famous for its red-light district and coffee houses selling a lot more than just a good brew (namely mushrooms and a certain “herb”), the “City of Sin” is also home to a vibrant gay scene, with a large pride parade called Amsterdam Pride every August.

Amsterdam is also home to the Homomonument, a poignant tribute in stone to all those of LGBTQ persuasion who have been persecuted because of their sexual orientation. The monument consists of three main centerpieces: The Triangle of the Past, The Triangle of the Present, And the Triangle of the Future.

The memorial especially is intended to commemorate the LGBTQ folks who were victims of the Nazis. Every year there is a ceremony held on The Netherlands ‘ National Day of Remembrance. In truth, the Homomonument is something that shouldn’t be missed by any gay visitor to Amsterdam.

And to explore a lighter side of the city, visit the Reguliersdwarsstraat, which is the hub of Amsterdam’s gay scene, with a host of gay bars and clubs that are always ready to party.

Go if: You have a passion for male festival outfits and want to show off your best at the annual Milkshake festival . Or if you want to experience what living in a world of total acceptance is like.

Hong Kong makes up for its tiny space by cramming in as many people and buildings and as much gay fun as possible. Don’t be put off by the legal status of gays here, society (in general) is happy to let you do your thing, and there are plenty of activities for gay singles.

This is a truly unique city and well worth visiting. Things are always changing, but no matter what’s updated its name or moved location, there will always be incredible restaurants, gorgeous views from the skyscrapers, and dusk-til-dawn dancing.

Go if: You like the idea of sipping innovative cocktails while gazing out over the iconic city skyline.

France is one of the most queer-friendly destinations in the world, and Paris is the pinnacle of this: the widespread acceptance has resulted in a gay bar scene that is hard to rival.

You can be drinking cocktails and discussing philosophy one minute at an underground kink party the next. And that’s just a Wednesday night! During the day, you can make the most of the city’s famous sights, designer shops, exquisite food, and people-watching along the boulevards.

Go if: You like a touch of Parisian sophistication and gorgeous French men on your gay holiday for singles.

Let’s start by addressing the elephant in the room: yes, Nashville is in Tennessee , a state not exactly known for its liberal approach. Gay acceptance is a complex issue in Nashville, but by and large, it is hugely welcoming, inclusive, and well worth a trip.

If you’re the creative or musical type, this is the ideal destination to discover a flourishing arts scene. Not to mention you’ll have the chance to get down and dirty in the city’s many gay bars and clubs.

Go if: You love live music, quirky neighborhoods, a good pair of cowboy boots, and feel like a single gay holiday with a difference.

Gay Palm Springs

It’s official: Gay Palm Spring is back again baby, and us gays are absolutely living for it! We are literally everywhere here, from the plethora of clothing-optional gay resorts, to fabulous gay nightclubs, chic museums, hiking trails, modern dining venues, and everywhere in between…

Once the glittery desert escape of Hollywood’s star in the 50s and 60s, Palms Springs slowly slid into obscurity and decayed only to be rediscovered in the last few decades by the gays, and now hipsters, hikers, and everyone in between has moved in. With incredible nature, retro-chic vibes,  mid-Century architecture, fabulous resort, and an epic lineup of events annually, it was only a matter of time really, we guess.

With over 40% of the permanent population identifying as LGBT+, it is safe to say that Palm Springs reigns supreme and is the biggest gayest destination on Earth. Home to America’s first all-LGBT city council, Gay Palm Springs is a haven for all those who want to just be themselves with LGBT discrimination is almost unheard of and a host of resorts, clubs, bars, and restaurants all vying for the almighty ‘pink dollar.

Go if: You want to travel only a few hours from Los Angeles and San Diego , but still want to explore a desert haven seemingly a world away from the politics of hate and discrimination.

It might seem like a slightly off-the-wall choice but we know that not everyone wants a gay holiday destination that’s dawn ‘til dawn partying.

You might be single, but maybe you just want to meet like-minded people over a beer in the pub after a day of extreme sports, rather than dance all night in a sweaty nightclub. To each his own! Let us suggest Queenstown, the ‘adventure capital of the world’ nestled in New Zealand’s stunning Southern Alps.

There’s plenty to do for adrenaline junkies all year round, but if you want something special, then how about planning a visit during the annual Winter Pride/Gay Ski Week – that’s in September, for you Northern hemisphere lot. It is one of the biggest gay ski weeks in the world and is worth planning an entire trip around.

Go if: You want a gay holiday that takes in stunning scenery, welcoming locals, and cosmopolitan nightlife – or maybe some skiing!

It sounds like cliché, but Gay Tokyo really is like no other city on earth; it’s vibrant, it’s iconic, and it mixes traditional scenes with futuristic cityscapes in a way that can only be experienced. The LGBT scene in Japan isn’t without its difficulties, but as a single gay traveler to Tokyo, you’re guaranteed not to run into any discrimination.

Instead, you can enjoy sampling the diverse gay scene, the delicious food, and the streamlined way of life in this metropolis. Not to mention the world’s biggest sex toy shop…

Go if: You want to experience something truly different on your gay solo holiday – with fire-breathing dragon robots and relaxing zen gardens!

Gay Seoul is one of the world’s most underestimated travel destinations, overlooked continuously for its more famous East Asian neighbors. Better know for Samsung and political tensions with North Korea, there is a thriving queer scene here hidden right in plain sight – you just need to know where to look!

Fast-paced and utterly obsessed with fashion and technology, the dynamic city of Seoul is also profoundly traditional, with peaceful palaces, temples, and mountain trails. Skyscrapers overshadow elegant hanbok (traditional wooden homes), green spaces and cycle routes soften industrial hard edges, and K-Pop can be heard blaring on almost every street corner. Seoulites have a lot to be proud of in their 24/7 city – where you can get whatever you want, whenever you want – and their gay scene here is no exception. We just wish the society at large would be more accepting…

Go if:  Food, design, culture, history, and wild nightlife do it for you – this sprawling metropolis has it all! With an intoxicating mix of hedonism and religion, what’s not to love…

Gay Rome is just one of those cities that everyone dreams of visiting. The eternal city is a vibrant mix of ruins, art, history, street life, and culture – an exhilarating experience that thrills, inspires, and never, ever disappoints.

For gay travelers, Milan to the north might have the biggest gay scene in the country – but Gay Rome does not disappoint with a fun gay street (with epic Coliseum views), a handful of gay bars, and a tantalizing array of gay dance parties, saunas and cruising spots.

Masculine, testosterone, men-only parties are very much a key party of the Rome gay scene, but there is a growing collection of queer take-overs and fun club nights that welcome everybody from across the LGBT+ spectrum.

Dubai is a magnificent experimentation in combing intense Islamic traditions with a ruthlessly futuristic vision, all amidst an exquisitely desolate desert landscape.

Dubai is sleek rooftop terraces, vast shopping complexes, a world-class skyline, lavish infinity pools, scorching beach clubs, and, well, just an excessive amount of wealth and gold. Many would argue this grand experiment has been a supreme success, but for the LGBT community, this leap into modernity is very much a facade.

We know: all that art, fashion, design, glitz luxury, and wild nightlife…with no gays? “I’m not buying it!”

Yes, this sounds all a bit scary and wild, but in reality, Dubai is something of a Gay Mecca in the region. Not least as it is a hub for one of the world’s biggest airlines, Emirates, and all those flight attendants. And the local gay scene is quite vibrant, if very discreet, and only known through social media or word of mouth. But it is far better than Gay Abu Dhabi…

Go if: You like undercover hook-ups and cute flight attendants. From the lofty heights of its ultramodern architecture to the fashionable beach clubs, uninhabited nightlife, and opulent hotels and resorts, nothing here is ever understated or straightforward.

With a small yet vibrant and well-organized gay community consisting of everyone from activists to professionals, pioneers to young queer visionaries, there is always something going on here. Pop-up queer takeovers, drag shows, poetry, bear coffee meetups, and more arts & culture than we thought possible – just to name a few!

Everyone knows Vienna is full of grandeur, glorious castles and palaces, and opera. That’s all well and good, but as a single gay, are you going to have much fun there? Hell yes!

There are hidden (and not-so-hidden) gems everywhere in Vienna: from pop-up markets and galleries to gay dance parties, bookshops, and swimming pools. You might want to try the traditional Sachertorte, but you can also enjoy modern eats and cocktails. Trust us; if you’re going on a solo holiday, this is not a place to miss.

Go if: You’ll enjoy meeting other gay singles among magnificent architecture, sophisticated coffee shops, and old-world culture.

The cultured capital of Finnish Lapland is filled with intriguing museums, gorgeous hotels, quirky bars, and more than a few sauna options. Not to mention all that expansive wilderness right on your doorsteps where the dense Taiga forest is only broken by the odd husky kennels, reindeer farms, and rustic huts perfect for Northern Light viewing.

Of course, in this small town, “gay” means something closer to “merry and bright” than it does “homosexual” – there is no camp nightlife nor a gay village or raunchy saunas. For us, this was actually a large part of the appeal… If you wanted a high-energy gaycation, Amsterdam, Fort Lauderdale, or  Las Vegas  might be better options.

There is a fabulous annual Arctic Pride, and Rovaniemi is the official residence of the world’s most famous bushy-bearded bear, Santa Claus – but for LGBT travelers, the appeal perhaps lies more in the complete acceptance they will find in such a liberal and open-minded destination.

Go if: You want to explore a wild landscape and open-to-all hospitality. This is the country that produced  Tom of Finland  after all – and today, Rovaniemi is for everyone to enjoy, after all, no matter their gender, sexual preference, or race.

Hugging the twinkling blue Bahía de Banderas and backed by verdant palm-covered Sierra Madre mountains, Gay Puerto Vallarta is one of the world’s most famous gay destinations!

A small city with astounding sandy beaches, boutique shopping, world-class dining, and a tantalizing malecón (boardwalk), it’s no wonder the gays have made this their home! Puerto Vallarta first burst upon the international jet-set scene after the filming of the “Night of the Iguana” with Liz Taylor, but it was not until the 90s that an LGBT industry pop’d up after the opening of the “Club Paco Paco.”

There is no shortage of epic gay clubs, laid-back cocktail bars, gay hotels, or sexy hombresin the Zona Romantico, Puerto Vallarta’s Gay District – but today, LGBT travelers will be welcomed almost everywhere in this tolerant and gay-friendly beachside town. In fact, Mexico, in general, is becoming increasingly gay-friendly as long-ingrained cultural mindsets change, as evidenced by the bustling gay scene in cities like  Guadalajara ,  Monterrey ,  Queretaro , and  Puebla.

Go if: You want a gay holiday for singles that is all about affordable luxury, your global queer family, tropical heat, and wild nightlife! And to show off your best gay swimwear…

Where are all the queens in Queensland? In Brisbane. Australia’s third-largest city after Sydney and Melbourne is arguably its gayest. While it may not have the biggest gay community in the world, Brisbane’s gayborhoods of Fortitude Valley and Teneriffe do have some of the friendliest gay hotels and bars/clubs in The Land Down Under for gay tourists.

Brisbane also has a large gay pride parade that has been running strong for over 30 years. There is also a street festival fundraiser event called Big Gay Day, established in 2000, which raises money for local charities with live music, drag performances, and more. Such notables as Sporty Spice and Boy George have graced the stages of Big Gay Day. It is quite an extravaganza, and well worth visiting Brisbane if you happen to be in Queensland.

And don’t worry, there are plenty of hotels, bars, cafes, and eateries in Brisbane that cater to the gay crowd as you enjoy the city’s excellent climate and vibrant gay scene. And if you’re lucky enough to be here in late May, don’t forget to check out MELT: Festival of Queer Arts and Culture, held at Brisbane Powerhouse.

Go if: You are looking for a hidden gay scene filled with welcoming people, culture and none of the pretense associated with its larger neighbours.

The average price paid for comprehensive motor insurance rose 1% in the first quarter of the year, according to industry data indicating an easing in the steep rises seen last year.

The latest tracker issued by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) showed a 1% increase on the previous three months to £635.

That was despite the average claim paid rising 8% to reach a record of £4,800, the body said.

The ABI said the disparity showed that its members were "absorbing" additional costs and not passing them on.

Nevertheless, the average policy was still 33%, or £157, higher between January and March compared to the same period last year.

Getir , the grocery delivery app, has abandoned a European expansion that is set to result in the loss of around 1,500 jobs in the UK.

Sky News had previously revealed that the Turkey-based company, which means "to bring" in Turkish, had  successfully raised money from investors to fund its withdrawals  from the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.

It had already departed other countries including Italy and Spain.

The exits were prompted by growing losses linked to the company's rapid expansion.

Waitrose is launching an exclusive range of products with popular chef Yotam Ottolenghi today.

The Israeli-British chef is famous for his Middle Eastern and Mediterranean-inspired food, and has worked with the supermarket to release products including a pasta sauce, spice blend and shawarma marinade.

It is the first time Ottolenghi has partnered with a supermarket in such a way.

The full range will be available in Waitrose shops, Waitrose.com and Ottolenghi.co.uk from today, while a selection of products will be available from the supermarket on Deliveroo and Uber Eats.

An introductory 20% off offer is being launched until 18 June.

The range includes:

  • Ottolenghi Miso Pesto 165g (£4)
  • Ottolenghi Kalamata Olive & Harissa Sauce  350g (£4.50)
  • Ottolenghi Pomegranate, Rose & Preserved Lemon Harissa 170g (£5)
  • Ottolenghi Green Harissa 170g (£5)
  • Ottolenghi Aleppo & Other Chillies Blend (£3.95)
  • Ottolenghi Sweet & Smokey Blend (£3.95)
  • Ottolenghi Citrus & Spice Blend (£3.95)
  • Ottolenghi Red Chilli Sauce (£4.50)
  • Ottolenghi Shawarma Marinade (£4)

Ottolenghi said he had "always been super eager to get our flavours onto people's dinner plates nationwide, not just in London, without having to cook it from scratch every single time".

He added: "I hate to admit it but the pasta sauce already features heavily in my home kitchen, when no one is looking."

The cost of bread, biscuits and beer could increase this year due to the impact of the unusually wet autumn and winter on UK harvests.

Research suggests that production of wheat, oats, barley and oilseed rape could drop by four million tonnes (17.5%) compared with 2023.

The wet weather has resulted in lower levels of planting, while flooding and storms over winter caused farmers more losses.

The predictions come just as the rate of price increases on many food items begins to slow as inflation falls.

The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) analysed forecasts from the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHBD) and government yield data.

It found a "real risk" of beer, biscuits and bread becoming more expensive if the poor harvest increases costs for producers, according to its lead analyst Tom Lancaster.

Beer prices could be affected because the wet weather is still disrupting the planting of spring crops such as barley, the ECIU said.

And potatoes might also see a price hike in the coming months, with growers warning of a major shortage in the autumn due to persistent wet weather.

When I think about the toys of my childhood - my pink Barbie car, my Gameboy Micro, my collection of Pokemon cards - I can't tell you where they went.

Maybe they were shipped off to a charity shop at some point... Or perhaps they're in the attic?

While my hot pink Gameboy Micro is lost to the void of time (or a cardboard box somewhere in my mum's house), other versions of it are selling on eBay for £100 or more.

And there are Pokemon cards selling for anything from a tenner to hundreds or even thousands of pounds.

It's possible you also have items at home that are a collector's dream.

Gumtree says its collectables category is already proving to be a "hotbed of activity" this year, with listings up 22% in 2024 so far.

Its most popular items include rare stamps, coins, war memorabilia and Pokemon cards.

Spring is often the most popular time for buying and selling collectibles, with demand spiking in March and April.

We've enlisted the help of TV presenter and collectables expert Tracy Martin to give an idea of what could make you an easy buck.

Old toys making a 'retro comeback'

Tracy explains that while trends change, vintage toys tend to stand the test of time.

"Toys are always going to be popular because they tap into nostalgia, our childhood memories," she says, explaining that adults like to buy the toys they used to have.

Perhaps you were into cars, and you've got some old diecast vehicles from Matchbox, Corgi or Dinky Toys.

A quick look on toy auction site Vectis.co.uk shows a Corgi Toys "James Bond" Aston Martin estimated to sell for between £600 to £700 - while others are likely to fetch £50 to £60.

Sindy dolls are also particularly sought after - particularly those from the 1960s - and Barbie dolls from the 1990s too.

Pokemon cards have seen a "massive surge", Tracy says, with people paying "thousands and thousands of pounds" for good unopened sets.

She's even seen examples of people paying £16,000 upwards.

Another up-and-coming market is games consoles, such as Gameboys, vintage consoles and PlayStations, which are making a "retro comeback".

What else could earn you some cash?

Tracy says there's currently a surge in people wanting to buy "mid century" furniture, which is dated to roughly 1945 to 1965 and typically uses clean lines and has a timeless feel.

Vintage Danish furniture is sought after, particularly tables and chairs with good designer names such as Wegner, Verner Panton and Arne Jacobsen.

Prices range from the low hundreds into the thousands.

People will also look out for vintage framed prints by artists such as Tretchikoff, J.H. Lynch and Shabner - these can range in price from £50 upwards to a few hundred pounds plus.

Vintage clothes, handbags and shoes can fetch a good price - but you can also invest in modern pieces.

Tracy suggests looking out for good classic designs with high-end designer names such as Gucci, Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton.

Modern designers such as Irregular Choice, Vendula and Lulu Guinness are also collected.

Collaborations with designers and celebrities can do well as they're often limited edition.

For example, Tracy says the H&M x Paco Rabanne maxi silver sequin dress retailed at £279.99 last year but now sells for in excess of £600.

When it comes to shoes, "the quirkier the design the better" - so look out for brands such as Irregular Choice and Joe Browns.

Converse and Dr Martens collaborations also do well, depending on the design and condition, as well as Adidas and Nike limited edition trainers.

What's the best way to sell?

Tracy recommends to always research before selling your items, as they might perform better on different platforms and you can also get an idea of how much they sell for.

For example, Vinted can be a good place to sell clothes and shoes, while other items might be better suited for sale on Gumtree, eBay or Etsy.

Tracy's favourite way to sell is through auction - especially if there are specialist sales.

Vectis is one of the biggest and most popular for toy selling.

Interests in different periods and items can go up and down, but for the time being vintage pieces from the 1980s and 90s are popular.

How much you'll be able to get from an item often takes into account its rarity, condition, whether it reflects a period in time, and if it's got a good name behind it.

You never know - you might be sitting on a treasure trove.

Annual mortgage repayments have increased by up to 70% since 2021, according to new data from Zoopla .

The biggest impact of rising interest rates has been in southern England where house prices are higher.

Across the South West, South East and East of England, the annual mortgage cost for an average home is £5,000 higher than previously. This rises to £7,500 in London.

But the universal uptick in mortgage costs has been less pronounced in other parts of the UK, with the North East seeing a £2,350 increase.

In a bid to tackle inflation, the Bank of England has raised the base rate from 0.1% in December 2021 to a 16-year high of 5.25% now.

The Zoopla research looked at the average home buyer taking out a 70% loan-to-value mortgage.

This week seems to be starting where last week left off - with three major lenders announcing further hikes in mortgage rates.

Amid uncertainty of the timing of interest rate cuts from the Bank of England  this year, swap rates (which dictate how much it costs lenders to lend) have been rising in recent weeks.

Financial markets currently see two rate cuts by the Bank of England this year.

We've reported on a string of rate bumps from the high street over the last 10 days, and this morning NatWest, Santander and Nationwide moved.

In its second hikes announcement in less than a week, NatWest laid out increases across its full range of residential and buy-to-let fixed deals of up to 0.22%.

Santander, meanwhile, announced increases for both fixed and tracker deals across their residential and buy-to-let products - up to 0.25%.

The same hikes are being imposed for a range of Nationwide deals.

All of these will kick in tomorrow.

Amit Patel, adviser at Trinity Finance, told Newspage it was "not a great start to the week".

"This is not good news for borrowers," he said.

Where will the base rate go this year?

The majority of the bets, according to LSEG data, are on the first cut coming in August (previously this was June) and the second in December.

This would take Bank rate from the current level of 5.25% to 4.75%.

Disabled people could receive vouchers instead of monthly payments under proposed changes to Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

The changes could see people being provided with either one-off grants for specific costs such as home adaptation, or being directed to "alternative means of support" rather than financial support.

Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride is set to announce plans today to overhaul the way disability benefits work.

In a Green Paper due to be published alongside Mr Stride's statement to the Commons, ministers will set out plans to reform Personal Independence Payments (PIP), the main disability benefit, through changes to eligibility criteria and assessments.

The plans also include proposals to "move away from a fixed cash benefit system", meaning people with some conditions, such as depression and anxiety, will no longer receive regular payments but rather get improved access to treatment if their condition does not involve extra costs.

Speaking to Sky News earlier, Mr Stride said: "I want us to have a grown-up, sensible conversation about a benefit called PIP that has not been reviewed in over a decade.

"And I want to ask the question, is it fit for purpose given the world that we're in today, in which mental health issues sadly present more of an issue than they did a decade ago."

A fresh high for the FTSE 100 to start the week.

The index of leading shares in London was 0.5% up at 8,179 in early dealing.

The gains were led by miners and financial stocks.

Dragging on the performance were some consumer-facing brands including JD Sports and Flutter Entertainment.

One other development of note to mention is that stubbornly high oil price.

A barrel of Brent crude is currently trading almost 1% down on the day.

But it remains at $88 a barrel.

The market has been pulled by various forces this month, with hopes of a rebound in demand in China among them.

The latest decline is said to reflect peace talks being held between Israel and Hamas.

A demand for smaller homes has driven growth in UK property prices early in 2024, according to research by Halifax.

Data from the bank's house price index suggests annual property price growth hit 1.9% in February this year - a significant rise from -4.1% just three months prior.

That equates to a rise in prices of £5,318 over the past year.

It follows interest rates stabilising, Halifax says, after a sharp rise over the past two years which squeezed mortgage affordability.

A key driver behind rising prices, Halifax says, has been first-time buyers, who made up 53% of all homes bought with a mortgage in 2023 - the highest proportion since 1995.

And it's smaller homes that have recorded the biggest increases in price growth in the early part of this year - with buyers adjusting their expectations to compensate for higher borrowing costs.

Flats and terraced houses made up 57% of all homes purchased by first-time buyers last year.

This varies by region - for example, in London, flats and terraced homes accounted for 90% of all first-time buyer purchases.

Challenges remain

However, Amanda Bryden, head of Halifax mortgages, said "it's important not to gloss over the challenges" facing the UK housing market, given the "impact of higher interest rates on mortgage affordability" and "continued lack of supply of new homes".

"But scratch beneath the surface and there is a more nuanced story, one which shows that demand for different property types in different parts of the country can vary hugely," she added.

"As interest rates have stabilised and buyers adjust to the new economic reality of owning a home, one way to compensate for higher borrowing costs is to target smaller properties.

"This is especially true among first-time buyers, who have proven to be resilient over recent years, and now account for the largest proportion of homes purchased with a mortgage in almost 30 years."
