This is a 90-minute outdoor walking tour offered in sun, wind, and snow. It covers about six town blocks and goes up and down a few small hills. There are generally a few indoor stops into historic buildings. This tour is not a pub crawl, however, guests will have the opportunity to purchase an alcoholic beverage at one of the stops. Dressing for the weather and conditions is important.

Adults 21+ looking for a fun, entertaining early evening activity. This is a great tour to take before dinner in downtown Breckenridge. We do not allow children/teens on this tour due to the content and language.

I booked a private tour … for me and a friend and it was FABULOUS. Ronnie, OUR TOUR GUIDE, was like a page out of the old West. Sweet, entertaining and very knowledgeable. There was even a little ghost tale thrown in…ask him about “Sylvia”. We highly recommend this tour.

Gambling was the norm in frontier towns and Breckenridge was no exception. The 1885 Colorado census listed eight gamblers and three hustlers in town. The youngest was noted as thirteen years old!

Breckenridge is a favorite among Colorado ski towns thanks to abundant winter activities, nightlife and après, fun festivals, and scenic beauty.

While the town is known for world-class skiing and snowboarding, that’s not all it has to offer during winter.

I’ve lived in the Denver area for most of my life and absolutely love Breckenridge, between my countless visits, I can say I’ve never actually skied here. Yet, I regularly return.

These are some of the best things to do in Breckenridge in winter, besides ski!

Best Things To Do In Breckenridge In Winter

Snowshoeing .

Snowshoeing is a fantastic option for those who love outdoor winter activities, but aren’t avid skiers or snowboarders.  

Breckenridge has snowshoeing routes throughout both nordic centers, Breckenridge Nordic Center and Gold Run Nordic Center, plus routes surrounding town, like the interconnected trail system.

This is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the peace and quiet of the surrounding mountain wilderness.  

Various local companies offer guided snowshoe tours or rentals.

Explore Main Street & The Breckenridge Historic District

The core of Breckenridge is the historic district. This is where you’ll find shops, art galleries, dining, and entertainment tucked into colorful 19th century buildings. All overlooking Breckenridge Ski Resort.

Breckenridge had a very productive mining past, which naturally resulted in a large town. While the industry’s long gone, its impact and Victorian age buildings still remain.

Within these historic buildings you’ll find a mix of boutique shops, souvenir stores, ski and outdoor gear, plus restaurants, bars, and other entertainment.

You could easily spend a whole day exploring this area, snapping countless photos and browsing shops.

The area’s core runs along Main Street, roughly from Watson Avenue through Maggie Pond (Peak 8 through Peak 9). It’s worth wandering around more than just this area though, the town has a lot of hidden gems throughout the historic district.

Gondola Ride: BreckConnect Gondola

One of the best things to do in Breckenridge during winter is ride the BreckConnect Gondola.

And yes, non-skiers can ride, and it’s free. Free gondolas are not the norm in Colorado resort towns, so this definitely something to take advantage of.

A ride on the gondola is a unique experience, providing incredible views of the surrounding area.

The gondola has a few stops, but you’ll want to wait for Peak 8, this is the hub of Breckenridge Mountain.

At the Peak 8 base area, 9,950 feet above sea level, enjoy food, drinks, and all the ski vibes from TBar or Robbie’s Tavern. Plus, views of skiers coming down the mountain.

Just be sure to stay out of the way of skiers and wear proper shoes, you’ll likely be walking in snow.

As far as Breckenridge winter activities go, a gondola ride is always a favorite.

Ice Skating

Is there anything more charming than an outdoor skate rink in the heart of the Rocky Mountains? 

The Gold Run Nordic Center’s outdoor rink, or Maggie Pond in downtown Breck, are great options if you wish to lace up the skates and spend an afternoon (or evening) on the ice!

Even for those who don’t care to skate, both ice rinks are a great place to grab a hot chocolate and enjoy some people watching.

Go Sledding Or Tubing

Sledding is a perfect winter activity for the whole family.

Carter Park Sledding Hill and Gold Run Nordic Center’s Runaway Sledding Hill are among the best spots. 

No matter where you go, the kids are sure to love this one after fresh snow has fallen.

Want to level up your sledding experience? Hit the tubing hill.

Nearby Keystone Ski Resort, Frisco Adventure Park, and Copper Mountain all have lift-served tubing hills, perfect for both kids and adults.

These hills are groomed and will receive snowmaking services if necessary, so this is especially great if there’s not much snow in town yet.

Sleigh Ride

A sleigh ride is a unique way to see Breckenridge.

There are various scenic sleigh rides which will take you along snowy trails in the White River National Forest. Additionally, there’s dinner sleigh rides, and even dog sledding.

If you want all the sleigh ride vibes but in a temperature controlled setting, opt for a scenic (and heated) snowcat tour instead.

Those looking for a unique winter activity and all the winter wonderland vibes, this is a good option.

Visit A Museum

The town of Breckenridge has an interesting history. It’s been shaped by centuries of Native American presence, a productive gold and silver mining run in the 1800’s, and its eventual transition into the ski destination we know it as today.

There’s a handful of small museums around town, each of which cover different aspects of the town’s history.

I recommend visiting at least one if you wish to learn more about the town, and again, since they’re all pretty small, this is something you can easily do in just an hour or two.

International Snow Sculpture Championships

One of the town’s biggest annual events, and one of the coolest in Colorado, in my opinion, is the International Snow Sculpture Championships.

This competition brings together snow-sculpting teams from around the world to hand-carve 25 ton blocks of snow into massive and complex works of art.

The teams work for 5 days in downtown Breckenridge, visitors are allowed to watch as they work, and then the final pieces are on display for about a week.

This event does draw large crowds, especially over the weekend, so select dates require reservations. Find more information at International Snow Sculpture Championships .

Winter Events In Breckenridge 

There’s no shortage of exciting festivals and celebrations during winter in Breckenridge.

Below are a few of the town’s most well-known winter celebrations:

• Lighting Of Breckenridge & Race Of Santas – early December
• Breckenridge Ullr Fest – mid December
• International Snow Sculpture Championships – late January
• Closing Day  – varies, usually in April.

Après ski is a classic Breckenridge activity, and don’t worry, you don’t actually have to ski to après.

“Après ski” is a French term which literally means “after ski.” In today’s slang, it means social activities (usually drinks) after skiing, and again, non-skiers can join. In fact, they’re often the ones to kick off après.

My favorite place to grab a drink is right at the base of a mountain. The Maggie (Peak 9), Sevens (Peak 7), and TBar (Peak 8) are the best spots to do that without a ski pass.

This way you can enjoy a drink and all the mountain vibes, without actually strapping up your skis.

And because downtown Breck sits right at the base of Breckenridge Ski Resort, there are tons of additional spots for après throughout town.

Expect happy hour, live music, and more at bars like RMU, Napper Tandy’s Irish Pub, The Gold Pan Saloon, and The Blue Stag Saloon in downtown Breck.  

You’ll have no problem finding a good time here.

Breckenridge has some wonderful mountain biking trails which are popular in the summer months, but did you know you can bike here in winter too?

Fat biking is an off-road bicycle with oversized tires which allow for extra traction and grip, perfect for biking in the snow!

Town trails, and the town’s nordic centers — Breckenridge Nordic Center and Gold Run Nordic Center — have great routes for all skill levels.

If needed, there are various places to rent fat bikes throughout Breck.

Try Some Crepes 

Crepes are kind of a thing in Breckenridge, I’m not 100% sure how it happened or when it started, but nonetheless, here we are.

The two main spots are Crêpes à la Cart and Trolley Crepes.

Crêpes à la Cart is located in downtown Breckenridge, and there’s pretty much always a long line. There’s also Trolley Crepes in Main Street Station by Maggie Pond, the line here fluctuates as skiers come and go throughout the day.

Both offer savory and sweet options for an easy meal while exploring town.

See Isak Heartstone, The Breckenridge Troll

While in Breckenridge you must see the 15 foot troll, Isak Heartstone.

Sitting in the woods about a mile from downtown, made completely of recycled wood, Isak is one of the town’s most beloved residents.

The huge troll was created by Danish artist, Thomas Dambo, as a temporary exhibit for the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts (BIFA) in 2018. However, Isak received so much love, that it now has a permanent home here.

It’s a very short walk along Trollstigen Trail to see Isak, however the trail gets very icy in winter. You will definitely need to bring microsprikes/crampons, it makes walking on an icy trail much easier.

You don’t need any fancy spikes, I have a pair from Amazon that cost less than $20, and work great: Microsprikes/ Crampons .

There’s no parking here, so walk from downtown or catch a ride on the  Breck Free Ride to Trollstigen Trailhead (Isak Heartstone stop).

Gold Mine Tour

As previously mentioned, Breckenridge was once home to a lucrative mining industry.

Today, gold mine tours offer a fun way to learn about the town’s mining past and really dive into the area’s history.

Country Boy Mine is the most popular tour in Breck.

During your tour you’ll make your way 1,000 feet into the mountain, where you’ll witness the original workings of the mine, which have been here since 1887.

Join An Art Class

If you’re looking for a fun indoor activity in Breckenridge, consider joining an art class.

There’s a handful of local studios offering a wide variety of classes, such as ceramics, glassblowing, metal embossing, canvas painting, and more.

These classes make for a unique souvenir to bring home, or, are simply a fun way to spend an afternoon inside.

Breck Create

Breck Create is a really great local resource for those interested in the arts. They put together a variety of events, ranging from educational programs to live music.

Breckenridge Recreation Center

The Breckenridge Recreation Center offers winter-friendly activities for both locals and visitors.

You’ll find typical rec center amenities such as a gym, fitness classes, saunas, hot tubs, indoor courts, and indoor track.

But you’ll also find a rock climbing wall, tennis courts, and dance studios, all indoors.

Plus, one of their most popular features, the indoor Aquatic Center with water slide.

Snowmobiling 

Snowmobiling is a very popular winter sport in Colorado.

It’s a really unique way to get out and see the special landscapes this state has to offer. Not to mention, they’re simply fun to ride. 

Check out Breck’s epic vista views and backcountry wilderness by going for a snowmobiling tour. 

For those who want to join a guided tour,  Good Times Adventures ,  Breckenridge Snowmobiling , and  High Country Tours  are all good options. The latter two also offer rentals for those who’d prefer to go out on their own.

No matter how you ride, the region has miles and miles of trails to explore, this will be an experience you won’t forget!

Visit A Local Brewery

Colorado is well known for its breweries, so grabbing a local craft beer will be on the to-do list of many visitors.

Luckily, Breckenridge has lots of good options, even including one of the top craft breweries in the entire country, Breckenridge Brewery.

At Breckenridge Brewery you’ll find a legit food menu in addition to their lineup of beers, ranging from light pilsners to hoppy IPAs. In fact, I’d say this is more of a restaurant vibe than your typically craft brewery.

In addition to Breckenridge Brewery, there are a few additional breweries, check out Broken Compass Brewery and Highside Brewing, both are very good.

Visit A Distillery Or Winery 

Breck is not limited to only beer, the town also has some great distillery and winery options as well.

Check out Breckenridge Distillery for bourbon and vodka from the world’s highest distillery. They also have a good restaurant on site.

Those up for wine will enjoy the tasting rooms at Carboy Winery Breckenridge or the Continental Divide Winery.

Cross-Country Skiing

Up next is cross-country skiing, also referred to as nordic skiing.

Yes, this is skiing, but it’s very different from downhill, and doesn’t require a resort pass.

There are various places to enjoy nordic skiing here, Breckenridge Nordic Center and Gold Run Nordic Center are among the best spots. Plus, they both offer lessons for those new to the sport.

Additionally, there’s the Breckenridge interconnected trail system, which features over 100 miles of ungroomed routes for various skill levels.

No matter where you go, cross-country skiing is a great way to experience Breck’s quiet beauty.

Walking Tour Of Breckenridge

If you wish to learn a bit more about Breck’s history, a walking tour is a great way to get to know the town and see the historic sites.

Breckenridge History and Breckenridge Tours have the best options for walking tours in town.

The  Historical Walking Tour ,  Ghostly Tales , and  Hike The Golden Horseshoe (mining tour)  are favorites.

Backstage Theatre

For live performances, including plays, musicals, concerts, and community events, you’ll want to check out the Backstage Theatre in downtown Breck.

They’ve been putting on live shows for the local community and visitors for nearly 50 years now.

Looking for more live music?

Check out Breck Create’s lineups at Old Masonic Hall or Riverwalk Center.

Additionally, there’s many restaurant/ bars in town which regularly have live music. These will be in more of an informal setting.

Motherloaded Tavern, RMU, Napper Tandy’s Irish Pub, The Gold Pan Saloon, The Blue Stag Saloon, and Whiskey Star are a few of the many great options.  

Lake Dillon Ice Fishing

Lake Dillon is a huge reservoir near Breckenridge, and during the winter months it’s popular for ice fishing.

Rainbow and brown trout, arctic char, and kokanee salmon are all common catches in Lake Dillion.

Go at it on your own, or join a tour with companies like Big Ed’s Fishing Ventures or Alpine Fishing Adventures .

Please be aware, Colorado has strict fishing regulations, including catch and release rules, set by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Department . Additionally, a Colorado fishing license is required for those over the age of 16.

With ample outdoor activities in Breck, you’ll definitely be craving some rest and relaxation at some point during your trip. 

Luckily, there’s plenty of excellent spas in the area.

Spend a relaxing afternoon (or full day) pampering yourself with a deep tissue massage, full body wrap, facial, or some quiet sauna time.

Hot Springs

Up for soaking in some hot springs? Then consider a day trip from Breckenridge.

There’s a few places you can go, but I think Buena Vista and Salida have the best hot springs near Breck.

Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort, Cottonwood Hot Springs Inn & Spa, and Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center are the top options in the area.

Each has something great to offer, but the creekside hot springs at Mount Princeton are among my favorite in all of Colorado.

No matter where you go, a mineral soak is the perfect way to unwind and support your body after enjoying outdoor winter sports.

Most hot springs are about 1 – 2 hours from Breckenridge, but will absolutely be worth it if you have the time!

Day Trip From Breckenridge 

Breckenridge is centrally located in Summit County, surrounded by other great mountain towns and ski destinations.

If you have the time, consider day tripping to one of these towns:

• Buena Vista
• Silverthorne / Dillon / Keystone
• Glenwood Springs

Towns like Vail and Keystone are known for skiing and will be relatively similar to Breck. Whereas places like Leadville and Buena Vista will show you a different side to Colorado mountain towns.

If it’s snowing or icy, or there’s a storm in the forecast, I don’t recommend doing this. Dangerous road conditions and closures are common here. Check the Colorado Department of Transportation’s  COTrip  for up-to-date conditions and closures.

Breckenridge Ski Resort, or Breck to her fans, is one of those places you visit, fall in love with, and return to every chance you get. The mountain offers supreme snowbound fun for all ability levels on five peaks.

Downtown Breckenridge’s historic Main Street is quaint and cozy with an architectural mix of Old West architecture, brownstones, and a touch of modernity with a backdrop framed by the snow-covered runs.

Of course, Breckenridge has world-class skiing and snowboarding, drawing visitors from across the country and around the globe. It is also a small town with a tight-knit community feel. The locals are open and friendly, and the visitors are happily spent from hitting the slopes. But there are plenty of fun activities for non-skiing days too.

If Breckenridge is in your future, you have to plan a winter visit. Here are the best things to do.

1. Breckenridge Ski Resort 

Breckenridge Ski Resort is a five-peak resort that offers 187 trails supported by 35 lifts — a combination of gondolas, magic carpets, and chairlifts — and an adventure-seeking culture that suits snow chasers. For high-energy skiers, Peak 6 and Peak 10 will get your adrenaline rush on. If you are looking for something a little tamer or a few warm-up runs, head over to Peak 7. If you have a large group who are intermediate skiers, Peak 9 is family friendly. Locals will tell you the heart and soul of Breck is Peak 8, where it all began. You must take a run or two down this center mountain’s trails.

Breck’s terrain parks have much to offer the trickster intent on perfecting their jump. Four parks and an 18-foot halfpipe silently await your arrival. For beginners, there is Highway 9 with small jumps, rails, and boxes to hone your moves. Park Lane and Frontier offer intermediate lines that will test your skills. The mac-daddy park is Freeway, which sports four enormous jumps and an 18-foot halfpipe. Proceed with caution — this is an extreme terrain park geared toward experts.

Just like its sister mountain resort, Vail , no matter which trail you hit, the views will astound you, the snow will fall away before you, and the sun will hopefully provide you with the perfect Colorado Bluebird day.

2. Dog Sledding 

If you love the outdoors and want to experience a different kind of adventure, try mushing. Good Times Adventures will have you dog sledding along behind a team of exuberant huskies just for fun. Everyone on the tour will have a chance to run the dogs and ride along, swapping seats throughout the 6-mile route. The rush of managing a team of powerful sled dogs through the Colorado Rockies is a joyous, heart-pumping experience.

If you are sledding late in the season, keep an eye out for the mountain wildflowers that bloom in very early spring. Snowdrops and low chiming bells add a promise of spring popping up surrounded by a blanket of snow. 

3. Snowcat Adventures

Zip on down to the Breckenridge Nordic Center for a Nordic Snowcat Adventure. Your privately guided 90-minute tour transports you in a heated snowcat across Breck’s cross-country ski trails. With your guide entertaining you, be sure to enjoy a hot chocolate or adult beverage along the way.

4. Fly Fishing In The Blue River

The Rocky Mountain vistas are enhanced by the Blue River running through Breckenridge on its way to the Dillon Reservoir. Ultimately joining the mighty Colorado river, Blue River amps up the beauty in this outdoor enthusiast’s enclave. 

River fly fishing is a beloved pastime, and the intrepid angler can enjoy winter fishing when they take a break from the slopes. According to Mountain Angler , off-season fishermen “can find excellent mid-winter midge and tiny stonefly (“snowflies”) fishing directly below the dam.

5. The BreckConnect Gondola

If you don’t ski but want to get the thrill of riding in a gondola, Breck offers the BreckConnect Gondola . You can ride the BreckConnect from town to the base of Peak 8. The ride is short but gives you a feel of the exhilarating gondola rides up the mountain.

On a bright, bluebird day, from the summit, you will have stunning panoramic views. The Colorado Rockies’ Tenmile Range and Mosquito Range, split by the Continental Divide, are impressive, snow-covered peaks.

6. Winter Hiking And Snowshoeing Trails

Hiking isn’t just a summer activity — it is an exhilarating winter activity, too. When the sun is shining and the weather is temperate, hiking or snowshoeing through the wooded trails is like walking through your own private, snowy winter wonderland. If you are going to hit the hiking trails in the mountains during the winter months, be sure to have microspikes, yaktrax, or crampons — you will need them on the slippery, hard-packed surfaces.

A good, well-traveled jaunt for beginner hikers is the Sallie Barber Mine Trail . (Breckenridge began, of course, as a mining town.) The 2.8-mile out-and-back hike rewards travelers with lovely views of the mine with Keystone mountain in the distance.

Carter Park is the trailhead for a large system of Breckenridge trails; be sure to download your route before you get there. The Carter Park to Moonstone to Barney Ford Trail is the most popular hiking trail. A moderate 4.2-mile out-and-back trail that begins with a steep incline may have you breathing heavily due to the high altitude. The trail levels out some once you mount the first crest.

7. Panning For Gold

Welcome to the wild west! The Colorado gold rush in French Gulch was the site of several mines operating between 1859-1946. Experience a private gold mine tour while you listen to the fascinating history of the mine. Take a guided tour into the Country Boy Mine , an easy 2,000-foot round-trip walking tour of the mine (no steps or climbing). Try your hand at gold panning — if you find some, you can keep it.

8. Fat-Bike Snow Rides

Do you miss biking in the winter? Have you tried riding a fat-tire bike? The large wide tires give you traction on the snow-covered trails allowing you to enjoy biking year-round.

The Gold Run Nordic Center offers hourly, half-day, and seasonal fat bike rentals. With a Golden Run Nordic Pass, you can access their snowshoe trails for your riding pleasure.

How about a Fat Bike Beer and Distillery Tour to get you out in the fresh air? Included in the 2.5-hour tour is a bike rental with a helmet and tastings at local establishments. Fat biking is a wonderful winter alternative to mountain biking, but just beware — when you combine it with a local adult beverage, you must exercise extra caution. 

9. The Breckenridge Troll

Isak Heartstone, otherwise known as the Breckenridge Troll , is the creation of Thomas Dambo. The beloved 15-foot-tall sculpture guards the Illinois Gulch trailhead, greeting guests with a knowing smile. Made of recycled materials and scrap wood, he sits quietly surveying his pine forest and curious guests. Isak is happy to join you as you strike a pose for a picture with this gentle Colorado giant.

10. International Snow Sculpture Championships

When you live to create art, you use the raw materials that surround you. Breckenridge Snow Sculpture Championships showcase snow artists with gorgeous, gravity-defying sculptures. These massive temporary works carved from pristine white snow are amazing to view during the day. They take on a completely different look at night when colorful lights cast highlights and shadows over the pieces.

As you stroll along the path, you will marvel at each piece ranging from fanciful creatures to lifelike models. The installation is awe-inspiring and boggles the imagination.

11. Shopping On Main Street

The Main Street Breckenridge area is home to classic retail shops you would expect to find in a ski town: North Face, Columbia, Patagonia, and the like. It is also home to some local gems. The Rocky Mountain Underground sells handcrafted skis, gear, and apparel. It is definitely worth a look-see; you can even enjoy an adult beverage while you contemplate your purchase.

Best Restaurants In Breckenridge

Options are your friend, and Breck offers plenty of options. You can dine on the mountain or stroll into downtown Breckenridge for a nibble. One thing is for sure; you will work up an appetite on the slopes.

Breckenridge Distillery Restaurant

Enjoy modern American Cuisine from the Breckenridge Distillery Restaurant , offering expertly prepared dishes inspired by seasonal and regional food sources. After a day of hitting the slopes, you can relax in rustic luxury while you enjoy a romantic dinner. Start with a cocktail like their Barrel-Smoked Strawberry Horchata made with their own spiced rum and espresso vodka with coconut, strawberries, almonds, and cinnamon. For dinner, try the Prime Porterhouse for two served with a mushroom hash and a side of Cauliflower Gratin. Finish up with a local favorite; the Bourbon Float; Breckenridge Bourbon over vanilla ice cream, cherry syrup, and Coke.

The TBar 

The TBar Restaurant is the classic apres-ski spot with a wrap-around porch and views of the slopes. This is the place where everyone gathers for a hearty snack and adult beverages. Share the House Smoked Chopped Brisket over Waffle Fries with queso and bbq sauce to quiet the mountain hangries and hold you over until dinner. Pair your snack with a local brew or a Buttered Up Toddy made with Breckenridge Spiced Whiskey and house-made honey rum butter. The toddy will warm your toes and tickle your fancy.

Frisco is a short, scenic drive out of Breckenridge and home to Bread+Salt . A classic breakfast spot that serves perfectly executed, hearty breakfasts. The kind you want to eat the day after. There is usually a line, but it moves fairly quickly and is definitely worth the wait. The chilaquiles — eggs with chipotle chile, crema, queso fresco, avocado, and tortilla chips — are super satisfying. If something sweet is on your mind, go in for the Nutella and berry pancakes — so good.

Historic District Downtown

Initially, a mining town, Breckenridge also provided services for the mining districts that surrounded it. In the late 1970s, the Breckenridge Historic District was formed and has worked to preserve the essential historical elements of this town.

Burro Trail

The Burro Trail is a well-marked gentle climb that takes you through the woods, alongside a stream and adjacent to a beautiful meadow. Sawmill Creek Trail

This is an easy 1.3- mile loop trail that follows a bustling river and ends at the beautiful Sawmill Reservoir. There are a few recently constructed wooden bridges to cross and the path is well maintained. With many benches along the way to sit and listen to the birds, there are also plenty of picnic spots around the reservoir to enjoy lunch.

Quandary Peak

Quandary Peak is Breckenridge’s iconic 14,000+ foot mountain nestled in the Tenmile Range, located six miles from the center of town. The approachable route to its summit makes this 14er one of the most popular in the state.

There are four different trail route options, with the East Ridge route being the most popular. It is a 6.75-mile roundtrip route, taking an estimated six hours to complete.

McCullough Gulch

McCullough Gulch is a six-mile moderate-to-difficult hike that takes you over streams and rocks,  passing roaring waterfalls to reach the summit. A small waterfall at the beginning of the trail sets the scene for the fantastic sights to come. You will come to the lower lake two miles into your hike, which is a great spot to rest and have a snack. Continue to reach the upper lake at the summit with its gorgeous views.

Wheeler Ten Mile Trail

Designated a National Recreation Trail in 1979, Wheeler Ten Mile Trail is a favorite for experienced hikers, mountain bikers, and horse riders. Not for the faint of heart, several miles of this trail are above 12,000 feet and require hiking up steep sections.

The route starts with a half-mile moderate climb up a rough path but you are instantly rewarded with views of a gorgeous forest blanketed in green woodruff. From there, it’s a singletrack route just below the tree line for several miles until the next large hill. This hike is an arduous one, though once you make it to the top it will be well worth the effort, as the summit view is inspiring and picturesque.

Mountain Biking

During the summer, biking is one of the top sports in Breckenridge. This is due to the hundreds of miles of trails that make it perfect for two-wheeled adventures. There is something here for everyone, from the first-timer to the champion competitor, and it is a great place to learn new skills.

The Classic Breckenridge Route

This is a 12-mile looped ride that starts in town and combines the best of both new and old singletrack routes. Excellent in both directions; there are many side routes you can take to lengthen your ride.

Galena Gulch to Colorado Trail

This trail starts at a parking lot and quickly takes you up a short climb and on top of a narrow ridge. Known for its very fast switchbacks and fun downhills, there are plenty of open grassy areas giving way to beautiful views. Full of little humps and dips along the way,  it has challenging climbs but nothing too technical on this 16-mile loop.

Breckenridge Flumes Loop

A popular, well-marked singletrack trail that winds through the trees. With steep inclines and fun downhills, it connects to Mike’s Trail and Upper Flume.  These sections feature steep, loose climbs and are best suited for experienced riders, though beginners with stamina will be able to persevere.

A great ride in either direction; if you want to tackle the climbing section first, start the trail counterclockwise. If starting at the Lower Flume Trail, this short climb leads to a gorgeous meadow and then continues over varied terrain for 6.5 miles.

Fly Fishing

The Blue River is well-regarded as the most popular fly fishing location in all of Colorado. Hitting its peak in mid-summer, this river is home to massive trout. These giant fish are teased out of their hiding by the emergence of the largest mayfly species in Colorado, the Green Drakes.

There are multiple access points along Highway 9, with public pullouts for river fly fishing and various campgrounds that offer river access. As the weather starts heating up, the fish will be highly active, making it the perfect time of year to cast a line!

Breckenridge Golf Club

Breckenridge is the only town in the world with a Jack Nicklaus-designed 27-hole golf course if that tells you anything about how seriously they take their golf! At an elevation of 9,324 feet, the Breckenridge Golf Club resides in the Upper Blue River Valley and has fantastic views of the mountains. With thinner air comes less resistance, and golfers of all skill levels will feel inspired as their balls fly further than ever.

There are four sets of tees, making this course more inviting to all skill levels. For the most challenging run, the course plays over 7.145 yards and has a difficulty rating of 72.8 and a slope rating of 150. This makes for an exciting game for even the most experienced golfers.

The Club offers lessons and programs to help you improve your game. Whether you are learning the fundamentals or want to take a few swings off your scorecard, private lessons are available from PGA professionals and qualified instructors.

The Breckenridge Golf Club has an immense golf shop, offering the latest golf equipment and knowledgeable staff to help you find the perfect gifts. They also have a fantastic restaurant that serves up a long menu of items, and there’s no better way to finish off a game than grabbing a cocktail and relaxing on the expansive deck that overlooks the course.

Blue River Whitewater Rafting and Kayaking

Whitewater Rafting on the Blue River is an unforgettable experience filled with action-packed rapids, relaxing lulls, and beautiful scenery. The upper Blue River is a fast-paced, hectic ride through a series of rapids that will keep your heart pumping. The lower Blue River is a calmer, slower-paced section perfect for floating along and doing some fishing.

Winding through Breckenridge, the Blue River eventually connects with Lake Dillon, which sits at 9,000 feet above sea level, offering more than 26 miles of shoreline. From there, the Blue River begins winding northward through the spectacular wild country before joining the Colorado River near Kremmling.

Breckenridge Kayak Park is a 1,800-foot-long section of the Blue River that has 15 different water features. A wonderful experience for kayakers of all skill levels, this is an excellent warm-up for those new to kayaking or who plan on tackling more challenging rapids in the area.

Paddleboarding Maggie Pond

The most popular destination for paddleboarding is Maggie Pond, located at the base of Peak 9. Within walking distance from Main Street, you can rent your equipment by the hour at Charter Sports at the Main Street Station and get right into the water. This is a fun activity to enjoy before lunch and in-between activities, as it is so close to the city center.

You can also participate in the SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) yoga class held on Maggie Pond throughout the summer. As a fun and challenging way to get your mind and body aligned, these guided classes are great for all experience levels.

Breckenridge Epic Discovery Park

During the summer, the Breckenridge Ski Resort transforms into a fun-filled adventure park complete with zip lines, mini-golf, and jeep tours. Start off your day by taking the Gondola from the parking lot to the Epic Discovery Park , where you will soar high above the tree line and can take in the fantastic views.

• Alpine Challenge Course – With 15 features perched high above the ground, your goal is to pick a route and balance your way to the finish line. Some of these obstacles include a log walk and rope swings.
• Alpine Slides – The 2,600-foot Alpine Slide will have you soaring down the hillside in a one or two-person cart, giving you full ability to control your speed on three different tracks. With twists and turns that take your breath away, the surrounding views are full of trees, wildflowers, and wildlife.
• Bounce House – A great way to let the kids release some energy, this massive bounce house is a popular attraction and features multiple rooms to hop through.
• Bungee Trampoline – Jumping on a trampoline will seem like child’s play after experiencing the massive heights gained from Discovery Park’s bungee trampoline. Strapped in at the waist and connected to bungee ropes on both sides, visitors can do somersaults and other airborne aerobics as they leap 20 feet in the air.
• Zip Line – As one of the most popular attractions, the Zip Line will take you to new heights as you soar over the canopy and get a 360° view of the park. Visitors can choose between individual rides or the 3-hour Zip-Line Canopy tour.
• Gold Summit Climbing Wall – The 35′ climbing wall has as many different routes as it does challenges and is an excellent experience for all skill levels. An ideal place for beginners to try their hand at rock climbing, the professional staff will help guide you through the process and offer tips and explanations along the way.
• Guided 4X4 Tours – Taking you on a tour of peaks 7 and 8, this 90-minute ride is the perfect way to enjoy the best views of the Ten Mile Range. Carrying up to seven people, these safari-style jeeps tear down the walls between you and nature and will have you smiling for days.

Summer Dog Sledding

The Good Times Kennel offers tours of their facilities throughout the summer, where a professional ‘musher’ will take you on a tour through the four-acre property. Along the way, you will get to meet the dogs, learn all about sledding, and dog care.

Enjoy a two-mile ride as they take their dog team on their daily workout, where you will get a chance to lead the way. With over 150 purebred Siberian Huskies to meet and play with, there are many photo opportunities both with the dogs and on the scenic tour of the Swan River Valley.

Horseback Riding

Many sprawling trails around Breckenridge offer the perfect opportunity for an afternoon ride on horseback. Beginners can choose an easy route that will explore wide-open ranges and give plenty of picture-taking opportunities. Those with more experience on horseback can take part in cattle drives or wander freely on the open range.

• Breckenridge Stables gives guided tours that last 1.5 hours and guide you between peaks 9 and 10 on the Ten Mile Range. They have over 100 horses and will match a rider to a horse based on ability and experience. They offer trail rides from late May to late September that take you across creeks and rivers, through open fields, and to the areas with the most stunning views.
• Rusty Spurr Ranch offers a more adventurous experience, with cattle drives across 10,000 acres, hours-long trail rides, and all-day ride packages. Keeping the groups small allows for off-trail riding and guided tours to more remote locations. This is the best way to avoid crowds, ride through open fields, and enjoy the quiet serenity of the natural world around you.

Winter activities

Best known for its ski resort, Breckenridge is the mecca for Colorado ski vacations. But beyond the slopes, there plenty of other winter activities in Breckenridge to keep you moving.

Ski/Snowboard at Breckenridge Ski Resort

Breckenridge Ski Resort features five peaks that span over 2,900 acres and is one of the most popular ski resorts in all of Colorado. Able to maintain an excellent balance between a world-class ski resort and a casual, easy-going atmosphere, Breckenridge Ski Resort is where serious snow-enthusiasts hang out amongst families and first-timers.

As the first ski resort in Colorado to allow snowboarders access, they hosted the World Snowboard Championship in 1986. Since then, it has become the go-to for snowboarding and freestyle riding, offering an incredible experience for terrain park riders.

There are 34 lift chairs and 187 trails for riders of all experience levels to enjoy. Breckenridge Ski Resort has many green and blue trails, perfect for beginners and intermediates. There are also groomed black runs which are great for those not yet ready for the more wild terrain. For advanced and expert riders, they can enjoy a varied, natural terrain filled with moguls, tree skiing, and alpine bowls.

World-renowned for its terrain parks which are separated by ability levels, this allows easier progression as you advance in your skills. Not only are these fun to ride, but there are almost always professionals enjoying the terrain park and pipe, putting on a good show for those watching.

Getting an average of 353 inches per season, they also employ snowmaking guns which cover 22% of the mountain. At 9,600 feet, the base of the ski resort starts you off high-up in the air. If you take the Imperial Express Super Chair it will take you even higher, to 13,000 feet!

Rent a Snowbike

Renting a snow bike is an excellent activity for older folks, those with injuries, and anyone who wants to go down the mountain another way. Snowbikes bring another level of creativity to snow sports and can be used during backcountry freeriding, speed racing, and freestyle contests.

Very similar to riding a bicycle, the “wheels” of a snow bike are two skis and the rider wears short foot-skis. At the Breckenridge Ski Resort, Rogers Snowbike Rentals has all the snowbikes, safety equipment, and lessons to get you started.

Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling is a great way to visit breathtaking vistas and get picturesque views of some of Colorado’s highest peaks. Whether you want to go at it alone or on a group tour, there are miles of well-groomed trails and snow-filled fields, plus bowls to power through.

Breckenridge Snowmobiling has several options when it comes to different tours, routes, and destinations and will help get you started if you’ve never snowmobiled before. All tours begin with a journey through forests, climbing higher until you reach the alpine bowls and meadows that Breckenridge is known for.

• The Prospector Tour is a great starting point, offering a tutorial on snowmobile operation and handling. From there, you will head out on a two-hour trip through a groomed forest trail system, racing towards spectacular views of Turquoise Lake, Mt. Elbert, and Mt. Massive.
• The Performance Tour takes place at Fremont Pass and is the highest guided snowmobile trail offered. Riding through high alpine meadows covered in fresh powder and deep mountain bowls, you will reach an elevation of 12,800 feet! There are over 4,000 acres of terrain to enjoy, with wide-open fields that allow you to explore on your own.
• The High Adventure Tour is an adventure made for adrenaline junkies. With elevations reaching over 12,500 feet, these tours have you riding a Polaris 550 RMK and focus on taking you to the most varied and exciting terrain in Colorado. Previous experience is recommended for these small group tours due to the challenging terrain and high-speed excitement laid out before you.

Dog Sledding

With a team of Siberian Huskies leading the way, Good Times Adventures will take you on a six-mile sled ride around the beautiful Swan River Valley. Mushing through snow-capped spruce trees while being pulled by these amazing animals, this dog sledding tour is a great way to experience the backcountry that surrounds Breckenridge.

The hour-and-a-half tour will have you switching places with others in your party. You will be able to ride in the dogsled and mush the dogs yourself. As one of the most popular winter activities in Breckenridge, it’s important to make reservations early.

Monster Truck Sleigh Rides

The Monster Truck Sleigh Ride takes you high above Country Boy gold mine, pulled along in a sleigh by a bright blue 1948 truck. With plenty of stops along the way to learn all about the historic mine and take photos, you will eventually end up at the beautiful scenic peak that looks down on the Breckenridge slopes.

The tour is half an hour long and once it is finished, there is a roaring fire with s’mores ready for you to enjoy. With plenty to do at the Country Boy gold mine, this once-in-a-lifetime sleigh ride will bring you right to where all the action is!

Extreme Sledding

Sledding is not just for kids at the Country Boy Mines Alpine sledding course. Take the Monster Truck Sleigh Ride or a Finnish army snowcat to the mountain’s top, where the original 1881 mine entrance is. From there, you will zip back down along a snow-packed road in a racing sled or Swiss alpine wood sled.

This adrenaline-fueled trip will have you zig-zagging down the mountain, flying past snow-covered trees that give way to expansive views. The track also will have you ripping through the historic mine property at speeds up to 15mph! Each extreme sledding ride starts with a brief training session in the mini-park, which is a great sledding area for younger children to enjoy.

Breckenridge Nordic Center

The Breckenridge Nordic Center is only a few minutes from downtown Breckenridge and easily accessible using the Free Ski and Ride shuttles. There is plenty to explore with over 2,000 acres of forest and over 20 miles of groomed trails for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

One-on-one lessons and group lessons are available from trained instructors for all experience levels. Area professionals will teach you how to cross-country ski, as well as take you on guided tours.

• The Snowshoe Adventures Tour is an hour-long trip down well-groomed trails, which can be enjoyed with a group or self-guided.
• The Snowcat Adventures Tour will have you riding around in a heated, all-glass cabin, enjoying the beautiful views of Cucumber Gulch Wildlife Preserve. Your tour guide will share the trail system’s rich history and ecology before ending the tour with hot chocolate and s’mores.

When it’s time to warm up, the “Oh, Be Joyful” lodge has a large stone fireplace and plenty of food and drinks to go around. Located on Peak 8 and offering postcard-perfect views of Peaks 6 and 7, there are miles of groomed trails that start here.

As the center of the Breckenridge Nordic Center’s operation, here is where you will rent equipment and go shopping for new gear. There are a bar and family lounge area, with happy hour daily and live music every Saturday night.

Snow Sculpting Festival

The International Snow Sculpture Festival showcases the work of 16 snow-sculpting teams from around the world. Hand-carving 25-ton blocks of snow into gigantic masterpieces, these artists do so using only hand tools. Spanning five days, the teams compete with each other in plain view, creating a short-lived outdoor art gallery in downtown Breckenridge.

Daily snowfall is reported as measured from our official snow stake , which sits on a flat surface to collect snow and measures by inches. The height of snow can be read directly from this stake 24 hours a day, but we officially measure and report snow for a 24-hour period, from 5 AM to 5 AM. Each morning after 5 AM, the snow stake is cleared. Therefore height of snow on the board at any given time reflects what snow has fallen after 5 AM. In addition to the 24-hour snowfall measurements, we also record the settled base depth each morning at 5 AM. This figure is read from a permanent snow stake that measures the height of settled snow above the ground. Reading this snow stake is a bit more complicated due to fact that a settlement cone typically forms around it due to heat from the stake itself causing the snow directly around it to melt or settle faster than it would in a regular field of snow. Base depths are therefore read as the level of snow outside the influence of the settlement cone, or about 2 feet from the stake, and our patrol team averages the height of snow in front of and behind the snow stake to maintain consistent measurements.

At Breck, we are committed to reporting snow accurately and transparently, based on industry standards. Guests can always view our official snow stake 24 hours a day on our website, which is what we use to report daily snowfall totals throughout the season. Although measuring and reporting snow is a simple and straightforward process, it's important to remember that the snow stake is just one location and one data point. For reporting standards and consistency, it is important that we measure snow from a single location every day, all season long. However, with nearly 3,000 acres of terrain spanning across Five Peaks and ranging from a base elevation of 9,600 feet to nearly 13,000 feet above sea-level, Breckenridge Ski Resort is spread across miles of terrain and therefore snowfall totals can vary greatly across the mountain based on wind, weather, geography and topography. On any given powder day, it is not unusual to find snow much deeper than what was reported in some areas of the mountain, or shallower than we reported, based on all of these factors.

Our official resort snow stake is located on Peak 8 near the bottom of 6-Chair. At 11,237 feet, this site is almost exactly at the middle elevation of the resort and in the middle of our Five Peaks. Most resorts report from within the upper third of the their mountain's elevation. The snow stake you see on our web cam is located at this site, and this is the single location where we record daily snowfall data that is reported publicly and used by patrol to inform their work on the mountain. We have been recording snow at this location for more than 20 years.

In addition to the 24-hour snow stake, we also have a base depth snow stake that records the amount of snow on the ground at this site. Base depth snow reports are different than the total snow reported each day, as base depth measures and takes into account snow settlement, melting, and sublimation.

A small team of specially-trained ski patrollers read the official 24-hour snow stake and our base depth snow stake, just before 5 AM every day. Therefore, the official 24-hour snow report is the amount of snow which fell between 5 AM one morning to 5 AM the next day.

Snow is reported daily by 5 AM.

The amount of snow at the stake is recorded into our database which is then automatically delivered to the websites, email system, text message system, and third party websites like OpenSnow.com and OnTheSnow.com.

In order to get the most accurate and consistent snow reports, it is important that our snow stake is located in an area that is mostly protected from external factors. Therefore, our snow stake is located in a flat area that is out of the direct sun and protected from the wind to avoid drifting and scour.

Industry standards for snow reporting at ski areas require that official snow reports be made at or below the upper third of the resort's elevation. Our stake is situated well below this standard at 11,237 feet which is almost exactly at the middle elevation of our skiable terrain.

We work with the CoCoRaHS measurement system to ensure our snow stake is built properly and in the right place.

Following industry standards, we report a base of 18" when the majority of skiable terrain is on manmade (snowmaking) snow. It is assumed that at least 18" of artificial snow is present on these trails even when the natural snow base is less than 18".

Even in early season, ski patrol still records natural settled base for our records, but when most of the open terrain is on manmade snow, we report 18" since that is what our customers will be skiing on.

Best Snowshoe Trails in Breckenridge for a Winter Hike

Winter is here!  An activity that may become more popular this year for a safe and socially distanced adventure is snowshoeing.  The tradition of snowshoeing is thought to be as old as 6,000 years beginning in Central Asia.  The snowshoe as we know it today came from the North American Indigenous peoples in an effort to hunt and fish during the winters.  Nowadays, we use snowshoes to hike for pleasure or to get the backcountry to ski or board down some fresh powder lines.  Whether you are a first timer or a seasoned snowshoer, you’ll find the perfect trail for you right near the town of Breckenridge, Colorado.

1. Boreas Pass Road

During the summer, Boreas Pass Road This trail is a popular 4×4 stretch and is also home to incredible mountain biking in that area.  During the winter, the gate shuts for vehicle access to this road, but incredible views are just a few hundred yards away from the parking area.  The beauty of snowshoeing in and out of glades of spruce, aspen, and fir trees makes this a local hot spot, and you’ll catch some amazing sights high above Breckenridge looking west at the Mosquito Range and Tenmile Range.

2. Baker’s Tank

Venture away from the easy grade of Boreas Pass road for a 6.6 mile trek on a more intermediate rated trail called Baker’s Tank.  This forest trail was created for snowshoes east of the Boreas Pass Road. The original route is still available on the former railroad bed, but is more crowded. This newer trail is more difficult with rises and falls through the woods. The snow will often be better than on the road due to less sun exposure and this will help in avoiding the foot and pet traffic on Boreas Pass Road.  Baker’s Tank is a large restored water tank that’s right alongside the road on Boreas Pass.

3. Summit County’s Recreation Path

There is a  path that extends from the Breckenridge Recreation Center over to the town of Frisco that has 8 miles of groomed free trails.  It’s accessible from a lot of places in Breckenridge and the mellow grades aren’t too strenuous and welcoming for the whole family.  You can venture out a little ways or make a day of it and take the bus from Frisco back to Breckenridge after warming up with a hot coffee from Rocky Mountain Coffee Roasters .

4. B&B Trail

The  B&B Trail is close to town that transports you to early mining days. Look for piles of tailings and much more! After about a mile there will be a junction. Take a left to continue on the loop or hang a right to extend your day on Turk’s Trail before joining up with Sallie Barber Road.  This area of trail systems can have you exploring the backcountry on the east side of Breckenridge for hours upon end.  Make sure you print off a trail map and understand the area prior to departing!

5. Reiling Dredge

Reiling Dredge Trail is a short trail that is a great destination for beginners. The Reiling Gold Dredge is a mining dredge boat last used in 1922. Enjoy the views of peaks 6 and 7 of Breckenridge Ski Resort in the distance. This trail connects to the B&B Trail listed above if you are looking for a longer hike.

6. South Illinois Creek Trail

South Illinois Creek Trail is one of the easiest snowshoe trails to access because of its proximity to downtown Breckenridge.  To get there, park at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena.  Breckenridge’s notorious Isak Heartstone sculpture installation is also in the area, which is an incredible sight to see for visitors of all ages.

7. Iowa Hill Mine Trail

The trail goes through the Iowa Hill Mine and is an easy hike at only one and half miles total loop.  If you’re looking for some cool views in a historic mining area, Iowa Hill is a great stop for you.

8. Breckenridge Nordic Center

Breckenridge Nordic Center is on Peak 8 and is an awesome pitstop for families and beginner snowshoers.  There are three beginner trails. Here you can rent your snowshoes and choose your own adventure, or go on a guided hike.  The Breckenridge Nordic Center also has ski lessons and snowcat adventures at their location as well!

14 Easy Snowshoe Trails in Breckenridge

Breckenridge’s stellar network of summer hiking trails transforms into a winter wonderland of snowshoe trails when the snow falls.  Nothing beats the serenity and solitude of donning a pair of snowshoes for a relaxing day in the woods. Here’s a selection of easy Breckenridge snowshoe trails to get you started on your next adventure.

1. Breckenridge Nordic Center

Snowshoeing is the perfect winter workout for anyone looking to get outside.

Breckenridge Nordic Center is located on Peak 8 and is another great stop for families and beginner snowshoers.  The nordic center offers three beginner trails, on-site rentals and guided snowshoe adventure tours.  After a day of snowshoeing, explore the nordic center’s beautiful handcrafted lodge to warm up with food and drink specials.

2. Gold Run Nordic Center

Gold Run Nordic Center offers three interweaving groomed beginner snowshoe trails. These trails are perfect for beginner snowshoers as well as families because the nordic center offers convenient rentals, groomed trails and the option of post-excursion hot chocolate next to a roaring fire.

3. Summit County’s groomed rec path

Snowshoers can explore the groomed section of the Summit County rec path that extends from the Breckenridge Rec Center to the Frisco Adventure Park, offering over 8 miles of fee free, winter recreation.

4. Groomed Trails in the iconic Golden Horseshoe

In addition to the bike path, the Town of Breckenridge grooms Tom’s Baby and Middle Flume trails in the iconic Golden Horseshoe area.

5. South Illinois Creek Trail

South Illinois Creek Trail is one of the closest snowshoe trails to downtown. Start your trek on South Illinois High before quickly jumping on the Blue River Bike Path. Go for a little more than a half-mile before hanging a quick left (there isn’t a sign but it’s clearly visible). A quick climb will lead to a great overlook of Breckenridge, complete with a wooden bench.   For your return, hop on the Southside Trail for a bit more distance or head back the way you came for a solid out-and-back experience.

6. I OWA HILL MINE TRAIL

This is an easy trail is filled with history!  The trail winds through an abandoned mining site with historical artifacts and signage.  The hike starts with a gradual climb but there are lots of spots for breaks as well as benches. The last portion of the hike is all downhill. The Iowa Hill Mine Trail is only one and half miles total and is a loop so you won’t get lost.

7. SAWMILL TRAIL

This short, easy hike is rich in views and close to town. Sawmill Trail is well shaded by pine trees and has a gentle elevation gain that makes it perfect for beginner hikers as well as children.  The hike finishes with views of the Breckenridge Ski Area, 10-Mile Mountain Range and a reservoir that is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the views.

8. REILING DREDGE

Reiling Dredge Trail is a short, aspen-lined trail is great for beginners and takes hikers to the Reiling Gold Dredge, a historic mining dredge boat last used in 1922. If you are looking for a longer hike, this trail connects to the B&B Trail and into a network of intersecting trails in the historic mining district.

9. INDIAN GULCH TRAIL

Indiana Gulch Trail is a 2.8 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Breckenridge, Colorado and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from May until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

10. Boreas Pass Road

Snowshoeing is a great activity for the whole family.

One of the most popular snowshoe trails in Breckenridge Boreas Pass provides elevated views of Breckenridge Ski Resort as well as the entire Mosquito Range and Tenmile Range. It is also one of the best sunset viewing spots in all of Summit County.

11. Burro Trail

Burro Trail is a great choice for a family snowshoeing trip. It has minimal elevation gain, so it’s ideal for snowshoers of all ages. Plus, the trail winds through the woods alongside a creek, so you’ll be treated to some lovely winter scenery.

12. French Gulch

If you’re new to snowshoeing, French Gulch is the trail for you. It’s also a wonderful choice as the first trail of the season. Although the conditions vary throughout the season, they’re frequently quite nice and the mountain range views can’t be beat!

13. B&B Trail

Not only is this trail close to town, but the B&B Trail also quickly transports you back to the early mining days of Breckenridge with mound after mound of tailings piles and relics from the past. Saunter through the wintry woods for close to a mile before coming to a junction. Take a left to continue on the loop or hang a right to extend your day on Turk’s Trail before joining up with Sallie Barber Road. On your return trip, stop and check out the historic Reiling Dredge and enjoy the views of peaks 6 and 7 of Breckenridge Ski Resort in the distance.
