3. Corvette Invasion

Corvette Invasion was established in 2013 and has become one of the biggest car shows in Houston. The event is incredible with low-speed parade laps caravan followed by spectators. Corvette Invasion has expanded over the years hosting more than 300 corvette owners.

The caravan’s race track usually happens on the third day. In the meantime, you will enjoy the best Houstonian food, drinks, and beverages .

4. McAllen International Carfest

Are you a lover of cars? McAllen International Carfest brings you world-class auto shows of exotic models, celebrity vehicles, hot rods, muscle, and classic cars. This car show has over 300 classic cars on showcase.

McAllen International Carfest allows you to walk around while exploring cars on display. The event is perfect for family outdoor activities. Kids will be entertained with the Kids Model Car build-offs during the showcase. In addition, there is live entertainment and music for attendees.

5. West Houston Muscle

As a car enthusiast combination of old-school and modern cars is exciting. West Houston Muscle is the largest car shows in Houston offering automotive car content. Located near Baytown, WHM features good old American muscle cars, torque, and horsepower. This event was formed in 2009 by car enthusiasts to provide a platform for car exploration and learning.

West Houston Muscle car show features unique activities of drag racing, burnout contest, and cruise-in. Safety during showcasing is maintained with an access control system and onsite security guards. Purchase your tickets online for $20 and attend their show on Saturdays from 9 am to 4 pm.

6. Tomball Lions Club Annual Car Show

Tomball Lions Club is an exciting car show running all day with no entrance fee. For over 29 years of car showcasing, Tomball Lions have invested in various categories for car enthusiasts. This show displays not only cars but a variety of trucks and motorcycles.

Tomball Lions Club showcases various models, makes, and years of cars. These include general categories from 1939 and mustang categories from 1965 to 1979.

During the car corral, you can enjoy delicious barbecue food, beverages, and music by “JD” the Dj. Cars registration fee is $30 if you register at the gate and $25 if you book space early.

7. Space City Cruisers Classic Car Show

Space City Cruisers was established in 1995 to showcase cars and give back to the community. The event showcases the best cars in the area including motorcycles and trucks. At the show, you will explore 37 classes of cars on display.

Entrance with your car requires registration of $30 from 7 am to 3:30 pm. There are awards for presentations and an eclectic mix of fantastic food and drinks.

8. Exotics on Market Street

Exotics on Market Street is one of the best car shows in Houston managed by Scuderia that showcases European and American classic cars. If you are a lover of international cars you will experience real auto displays. All exotic European cars with unique machines are displayed including supercars.

Exotics on Market Street holds a car show every third weekend of the month. Once you book early invitations to display your car are made. The admission fee for spectators is free with a lot of free parking.

9. Houston Auto Show

Houston Auto show is a classic car show displaying tons of automotive machines. Whether you are a car lover or a buyer looking for the latest trends, don’t miss this event. Houston Auto show is the grandest car show highlighting new cars at the start of every year.

If you are lucky you will watch rare exotics including Lamborghinis. Unlike other Houston car meets, Kemah is spacious with people riding bicycles or walking their dogs .

What started out as just a few of our high end car buddies parking in the very front “motorcycle only parking” area just meeting up to eat a couple times a month, quickly turned into one of the biggest organised car meets on the south side of Houston. Dozens of cars flocked into the parking lot to checkout what line we would have that day. After about the 4th event, the entire parking lot was full. All based on the layout that Exotics and high end cars up front in “VIP”, then corvettes directly to the left of them (assuming you are standing on the outdoor patio). Stance cars, show quality trucks/jeeps, and classic cars  to the right all lined up along NASA Rd. 1. Then Imports along the line directly behind the VIP line facing the “IHOP”, and lastly domestics on the far row facing the imports as a sort of face-off of different styles. Every other car in between just kinda sneaks in and finds a spot.

The entire event is coordinated by the owner of “Houston Car Cruise” Bobby, and his “Bombshells team”, Andrew, Brent, and Luke. This way things stay organised with the correct “VIP” worthy cars up front to keep the environment of the event to a certain level making it most enjoyable to majority of people.

Cruise expands supervised self-driving ride-hailing to Houston and Dallas

Cruise is rolling out its self-driving cars to more cities — specifically, to Houston and Dallas as it expands its Texas-based presence. Cruise already started testing its vehicles in Austin at the end of last year, and announced plans to begin testing its Origin built-for-purpose robotaxis there earlier in 2023 .

Cruise said via their Twitter account that they’ll kick off supervised (meaning, there’s a safety driver in the car) testing in Houston “in the coming days,” and will expand to Dallas shortly after. For now, consumers won’t have access to these vehicles, but that’s the eventual goal. Cruise will shift to driverless testing before opening it up to riders.

Interested individuals can use Cruise’s sign-up page to join the waitlist, as the program will be invite-only initially, though open to the general public in terms of requesting access.

It’s been a busy year for Cruise, with expansion of its testing program to new locales, and also a broadening of its pilot program in San Francisco, where its cars are now available to hail 24 hours a day throughout the city — for employees only initially, however.

Cruise plans to launch driverless ride-hailing service in houston.

The California-based subsidiary of General Motors began operating autonomous ride-hailing early last year in San Francisco before expanding to Austin and Phoenix. Human-supervised test drives in Houston will start next week.

A driverless ride-hailing service is coming soon to Houston.

Cruise, a California-based subsidiary of General Motors, announced Wednesday that it will begin making test drives in Houston next week with a human supervisor behind the wheel. The plan is to launch a fully autonomous commercial service in the city within the next few months, according to a Wednesday tweet by Cruise CEO Kyle Vogt.

Cruise unveiled its driverless ride-hailing service early last year in its home city of San Francisco and expanded to Austin and Phoenix by the end of 2022. The company needed about three months' worth of testing in each of the latter cities, according to Cruise spokesperson Tiffany Testo, who said test runs will begin in Dallas shortly after they start in Houston.

"This phase that you'll see kicking off here in Houston is our supervised driving, which allows us to finetune," Testo said. "Every city is different and they have nuances. It's just a matter of making sure our technology is ready for public roads and rides."

A small number of driverless vehicles, used primarily to make food deliveries and haul cargo, have been on Houston-area roads in recent years, first through partnerships between robotics startup Nuro and companies such as Kroger . Last August, Kodiak Robotics began using self-driving 18-wheelers to transport IKEA products between the Houston and Dallas areas, and Aurora Innovation, Inc., announced earlier this year that it plans to launch an autonomous freight-hauling service between Houston and Dallas by the end of 2024.

Testo said the mission of Cruise, which was founded in 2013 and has raised a total of $10 billion in capital commitments from companies such as GM, Honda, Microsoft and Walmart, is to "improve road safety, reduce emissions and reduce congestion." It has a fleet of about 300 electric vehicles powered by renewable energy, according to Testo.

The entire fleet was recalled for a software update in late March after a Cruise vehicle rear-ended a city bus in San Francisco, with Vogt writing in an April 7 blog post that the crash caused no injuries and the autonomous car was traveling about 10 mph at the time. Reuters reported last month that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a safety probe into Cruise's driverless system in December after receiving incident reports that Cruise vehicles "may engage in inappropriately hard braking or become immobilized."

Testo said she did not immediately know how many collisions Cruise vehicles have been involved in since its commercial service launched early last year in San Francisco, but acknowledged there have been crashes that in some cases have caused minor injuries to passengers.

"We're really proud of our safety record," she said. "We've driven just about at the 2 million mark of driverless miles with passengers and have no major injuries or fatalities."

Cruise's driverless ride-hailing service, which can be secured through an app, operates continually in San Francisco and only at night in Austin and Phoenix, with Testo saying there typically is more of a demand for the service at night. Cruise cars also are making autonomous deliveries in Phoenix through a partnership with Walmart.

It has not been determined when exactly the ride-hailing service will initially operate in Houston, or where exactly in the city it will be available, according to Testo, who said the cost of the service varies by market. In San Francisco, she said the base price for a driverless ride is $5, and passengers are then charged per mile and per minute while taking an optimal route.

"On the whole, we are priced competitively for what you would pay for traditional ride-hail," Testo said.

Driver rolls over in crash after colliding with officer who was responding to robbery, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A driver was left with minor injuries after colliding with a Houston Police Department officer who was responding to a robbery in progress call overnight, according to officials.

The video above is from ABC13's live-streaming channel.

The crash happened near the Acres Home area near South Victory and N. Shepherd Road.

Sgt. Ramirez with Houston police said the crash happened at an intersection as the officer was heading southbound on Shepherd and the driver was heading westbound on Victory.

Officials said at the time of the crash, the officer was operating a Code 1, which means he was driving with lights and sirens on.

Due to the crash's impact, the driver's vehicle rolled over. Cameras at the scene captured the aftermath, where the driver's car could be seen on its roof in the middle of the roadway.

The HPD cruiser also showed significant damage to the front.

The driver sustained minor injuries and some shoulder soreness. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK, police said.

HPD said the officer was not injured.

A Michigan community is mourning after a student died suddenly while on a school trip to a robotics competition in Texas last week.

The student "suddenly passed away," Lake Orion High School confirmed with USA TODAY Tuesday, but did not identify the student. The school is located in Orion Township, about 40 miles north of Detroit.

"It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community," superintendent Ben Kirby said in a statement sent out to the student body on Friday, obtained by USA TODAY.

"Today, Friday, April 19, one of our current high school students suddenly passed away. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends," the statement continued.

Officials have not identified the student.

Student was attending Robotics World Championship

The school's principal, Dan Hass, informed parents that the student was attending the Robotics World Championship, according to reporting by the Oakland County Times .

“Our hearts are very heavy as we mourn this loss," Hass said, per the outlet. "We will be ready to meet the needs of our students and staff Monday morning.”

Kirby noted in the statement that Lake Orion High School and Lake Orion Community Schools have crisis teams that will be ready to "help with the needs of students and school personnel."

"We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to support our high school students through this tragedy," Kirby shared.

Authorities in Houston told USA TODAY a 16-year-old boy from Michigan died as a result of an apparent suicide Friday evening. 

The teen's official cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Harris County Coroner Coroner's Office.

"This has been an incredibly challenging time for our team and community, and we are grateful for the overwhelming support we’ve received," Lake Orion Robotics FIRST Team 302 shared in an Instagram post .

Lake Orion High's robotics team was attending the FIRSTS robotics world championships in Houston, Texas that ran April 17 through April 20, according to the competition's website.

Support has poured in from other robotics teams across the country.

"Everyone on f(x) robotics sends their love and support to all @firstteam302 team members, their families, and the entire Lake Orion community as they get through this incredibly difficult time. #wearealldragons ," a North Carolina team wrote.

"4362 would like to extend our deepest condolences to all of the families, students, mentors, and coaches on @firstteam302 we our all here for you. #morethanrobots #wearealldragons ," wrote a Michigan team.

A West Virgina team said it is "grieved by the fact FIRST has lost a member of its community."

"This is a tragic time for everyone associated with team 302 and the FIRST community," an Idaho team shared.
