Kid Cudi cancels Insano tour after breaking his heel: 'More serious than I thought'

After Kid Cudi broke his foot from abruptly jumping from the stage during his Coachella set on Sunday, the Grammy-winning artist has canceled his upcoming tour dates.

"Guys, so, I have a broken calcaneus," Cudi, 40, announced on Instagram Tuesday. He wrote that he's "headed to surgery now and there's gonna be a long recovery time."

"We have to cancel the tour so I can focus on getting better to be out there in top shape to rage with you all. (There's) just no way I can bounce back in time to give 100%," he wrote. "The injury is much more serious than I thought."

The "Pursuit of Happiness" singer reassured fans that anyone who'd bought tickets "will get a full refund" and should receive an email "soon." He also promised to reveal new tour dates "as soon as possible, and I can't wait to get back out there with you guys and turn up how we do."

However, he's feeling "ok, just a lil soreness, but (I'm) in good spirits."

Cudi was scheduled to kick off his new tour in June for his album "Insano," which came out in January.

What happened to Kid Cudi's foot at Coachella?

Cudi, 40, who was added to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival's second-weekend lineup just days ahead of his performance, played to an overflowing crowd. But late into his 40-minute set, he tried to jump down from the stage during his hit "Memories," severely injuring his foot in the process.

After carefully stepping down from one platform, he jumped and took an awkward tumble, immediately wincing as he rolled to the ground. He was later seen being escorted off by two men.

He confirmed in an X, formerly Twitter post early Monday morning that he did, in fact, break his foot.

"ust leavin the hospital. Never broken a bone before so this is all a bit crazy," he wrote. "I wanna thank u all for ur concerns and well wishes!! I love yall man. I heard yall still ragin when I was offstage. Made me smile big."

There were still one-and-a-half songs remaining in his allotted time. The crowd was treated to a recording of his biggest hit, "Pursuit of Happiness," to close out the set, most of them not aware that Cudi had been hurt and was no longer on stage.

Before the injury, it was a pretty epic performance as the Sahara tent was completely packed and overflowing on both sides including the new hill on the south side of the tent where fans can sit on a grassy hill to see the show. It was completely filled with people sitting and watching despite the high temperatures.

Cudi hadn't performed at Coachella since 2019 and recalled his first time in 2013 early in his set. He said when he looks back at videos of that performance, he sees a big smile on his face because that was the first day he really understood the relationship between the crowd and the artist. He then launched into "Up, Up & Away."

He had that relationship going again on Sunday, playing on a mostly bare stage with the exception of about a 20-foot statue of himself from the waist up in sort of a messiah pose.

He played two songs from the new album, including the live debut of the song "Blue Sky" followed by "Powerboy."

He then gave the fans what they wanted, finishing his set with the two biggest sing-along hits, "Memories" and "Pursuit of Happiness." But at some point during "Memories" he was jumping down into the area between the stage and the crowd. His leg appeared to get caught on part of the stage and as he jumped down to clear that area, he twisted his ankle when he hit the ground.

“Hey guys, so I broke my foot today at the show. just leavin the hospital. Never broken a bone before so this is all a bit crazy. I wanna thank u all for ur concerns and well wishes!! In another video, he laughed about the Sunday incident when recalling what happened: “This is what happens when a 40-year-old man tries to prance around off stage like he’s 26 like he used to do back in the day. I learned a valuable lesson: no more prancing around, jumping off stages. I’m hoping that I be healed up in time for tour. That’s the plan. I don’t want to let you guys down. So that’s what we’re aiming for. Not cancelling anything just yet. Just going to wait and see how things go.”

He reiterated that he was okay but “a little sore.” “Yesterday was a lot of pain. But I’m doing better now… Apparently I broke something in my heel. This is a major setback. Don’t worry. I’m going to bounce back,” he said before joking, “Engage the rage, but not at 40.”

Cudi was announced as a part of Coachella’s Weekend Two lineup. The headliners for both weekends, which took place April 12-14 and April 19-21, were Lana Del Rey and Tyler, the Creator on Saturday and Doja Cat on Sunday. No Doubt also reunited for Saturday night performances both weekends, with Olivia Rodrigo joining them during the first weekend.

During this year’s festival, performances were full of surprise guests. Will Smith surprised the audience as a special guest joining J Balvin to perform his hit song “Men in Black,” from his 1997 box office blockbuster film of the same name.

Billie Eilish, Shakira and Paris Hilton were also among other surprise performers. Meanwhile, when Kesha performed her hit song “TiK ToK” with Reneé Rapp, she  changed the lyrics  to say “fuck P. Diddy.”

Kid Cudi cancels world tour after breaking foot at Coachella

S AN DIEGO ( FOX 5/KUSI ) — Kid Cudi has canceled all shows — including one in Tennessee — for his planned “ Insano World Tour ” this summer after breaking his foot during Coachella last weekend.

In an Instagram post Wednesday , the Grammy Award-winning artist said he sustained a fracture to his calcaneus, or heel bone, in a jump from the Sahara stage during his set at the festival on Sunday. He added that the injury will require surgery.

“We have to cancel the tour so I can focus on getting better to be out there in top shape to rage with you all,” he wrote in the post. “There’s just no way I can bounce back in time to give 100%.”

The Grammy Award-winning rapper was initially scheduled to perform at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on July 3 as one of the first stops of the tour. Those who bought tickets to this show — or the other 42 stops planned for the tour — will get a full refund, Cudi said.

A new slate of shows for the “Insano World Tour” will be announced once he has recovered from the injury, he added.

“I can’t wait to get back out there with you guys and turn up how we do,” Cudi continued. “I’m really disappointed as [I’m] sure you guys are too, but I will be back. That’s a promise.”

Cudi, who was a special treat for festivalgoers at the second weekend of Coachella, sustained his injury late in his 40-minute set in front of a packed crowd at the Sahara Stage. According to those who were there, he only had one song left in his set, “Pursuit of Happiness.”

Videos posted to social media show the 40-year-old rapper attempting to jump down from the stage during his hit song “Memories.” His foot appears to get caught in a wire lining the stage, causing him to take an awkward tumble back onto his left foot.

Cudi was then escorted off by two men, as he was not able to put any weight on his leg. Late Sunday, he confirmed in a post on X , formerly Twitter, that he did in fact break his foot in the fall.

Kid Cudi is canceling his upcoming Insano: Engage the Rage World Tour after finding out his broken ankle is “much more serious” than he thought.

“Guys, so, I have a broken calcaneus,” Cudi posted Wednesday on social media. “Im headed to surgery now and there’s gonna be a long recovery time. We have to cancel the tour so I can focus on getting better to be out there in top shape to rage with you all.”

Kid Cudi is ‘hoping’ his Coachella broken ankle will be healed in time for Insano tour

Kid Cudi offers an update on the ankle he broke jumping off the Sahara stage on the last day of Coachella 2024. He seems upbeat, albeit a little uncertain.

April 23, 2024

The calcaneus is more commonly known as the heel bone. While some ankle fractures can heal in weeks, a broken calcaneus has a longer recovery time. “This type of fracture commonly occurs during a high-energy event — such as a car crash or a fall from a ladder — when the heel is crushed under the weight of the body,” the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons says on its website . Surgery is often required to prevent heel deformity.

This, friends, is why you don’t jump off one of the tallest stages at Coachella.

“There’s just no way I can bounce back in time to give 100%,” Cudi said. “The injury is much more serious than I thought.”

The U.S. leg of the Insano tour was supposed to start June 28 in Austin, Texas, and conclude with a show in Los Angeles on Aug. 30. Kid Cudi planned to head to Europe in early 2025; it’s unclear whether that part of the tour is still on.

The rapper said that ticket holders will be contacted by email and receive a full refund. Also, new tour dates will be announced as soon as possible.

In a video posted earlier this week and captured by TMZ , Kid Cudi said with a chuckle, “This is what happens when a 40-year-old man tries to prance around offstage like he’s 26, like he used to do back in the day.” He added that he was “hoping” to be healed up in time to hit the road.

So much for that idea.

“I’m so sorry fam and I love you all so much, thanks for the endless love and support. Im really disappointed as im sure you guys are too, but I will be back. Thats a promise,” the rapper wrote Wednesday.

“Im ok, just a lil soreness, but im in good spirits.”

In the video above you can just how hard he hit the ground following his slip and it was clear that it wasn’t something he could walk off.

According to TMZ , the Cleveland rapper has now canceled his upcoming INSANO tour dates following his nasty fall so he can get surgery and heal.

“Guys, so, I have a broken calcaneus,” he said in an X post.  I’m headed to surgery now and there’s gonna be a long recovery time. We have to cancel the tour so I can focus on getting better to be out there in top shape to rage with you all. There’s just no way I can bounce back in time to give 100%. The injury is much more serious than I thought. Anyone who bought tickets will get a full refund, you’ll get an email soon.”

Hopefully, it doesn’t take Cudi too long to recover but we know the rager won’t take kindly to sitting around while healing. If you’re bummed about the tour cancellation, you can at least catch him in the Knuckles series currently streaming on Paramount+.

We also predict that Cudi will find a new way to connect with his finds while resting, perhaps streaming.

Kid Cudi Cancels Tour After Breaking Foot During Coachella Set

Maybe if his sneakers had air bubbles the injury wouldn't have been as bad. just sayin..., share this link via, or copy link.

2024 Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival - Weekend 2 - Day 3

Source: Scott Dudelson / Getty

Over the weekend a video of Kid Cudi jumping off stage at Coachella and breaking his foot began to make the rounds and now it seems like that injury will keep Cudi off the road for the foreseeable future.

On Wednesday (April 24), the Man On The Moon artist took to his Instagram page to let his fans know the extent of his injury saying that he has a broken calcaneus and not only will it require surgery , but unfortunately it also means that he’ll have to cancel his tour as he recovers from the injury.

“The injury is much more serious than I thought. Anyone who bought tickets will get a full refund, you’ll get an email soon. We will be back with new tour dates as soon as possible, and I can’t wait to get back out there with you guys and turn up how we do. I’m so sorry fam and I love you all so much, thanks for the endless love and support.”

We’re sure fans are disappointed with the news but the man needs time to heal. We doubt many people want to see him performing from a wheelchair. Well, some might. You never know.

As we said the injury happened while Cudi was doing his set at Coachella this past weekend and though the jump from the stage to the ground wasn’t a big one, it seemed like Cudi landed wrong and that was enough to cause some serious damage.

Check out the video of the incident below and wish Kid Cudi a speedy recovery, y’all.

The rapper went to X on April 24 to tell fans that his broken ankle would take time to heal, forcing him to reschedule his tour, which was set to kick off in July, according to Rolling Stone .

“Guys, so, I have a broken calcaneus,” Kid Cudi wrote on X. “I’m headed to surgery now and there’s gonna be a long recovery time. A day after the injury, Kid Cudi updated his fans about his injury via a video clip, saying.

“This is what happens when a 40-year-old man tries to prance around off stage like he’s 26, like he used to do back in the day,” he said at the time. “I learned a valuable lesson: no more prancing around, jumping off stages.”

He also assured his fans that he’ll bounce back.

“I don’t wanna let you guys down,” he said. “Not canceling anything just yet. Just gonna wait and see how things go.”

According to Rolling Stone, Cudi injured his ankle when he jumped off the stage during his performance at Coachella. Cudi expects to trek across North America and Europe when his tour kicks off at a later date.
