Joe Gatto stands alongside mystery guests on the red carpet.

Joe Gatto didn’t recount his High School experience all too fondly during his first solo show at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.

“I was the white kid who loved math and bowled… so… unf***able,” he joked.

Clearly, the 47-year-old comic forgot to mention he also had his wild sense of humor going for him. But, the fast-talking, crazy-eyed, Staten Island-Native’s humility was certainly intact as he reflected on his boyhood.

So, how did this former mathlete/bowler make it to the Beacon?

Well, as you may recall, from 2011-21, Gatto starred on the wildly popular hidden-camera series “Impractical Jokers” alongside his three best friends from High School — Brian “Q” Quinn, James “Murr” Murray, and Sal Vulcano.

When Gatto wasn’t rolling strikes at the bowling alley or buried in a textbook, he and his pals dared each other to perform absurd stunts in public which led to improv and sketch comedy careers, ultimately earning them their own TruTv show — a dream come true for a gaggle of silly teenagers.

Gatto left the show in 2021, after nine seasons, to focus on his family. But, it wasn’t long before his itch to perform led him back to the stage.

Last year, he announced  ‘Joe Gatto’s Night of Comedy Tour’ ,  which is just what it sounds like: an epic one-man-show traversing some of the most iconic theaters across the nation including The Beacon.

“I’ve been touring for a while but I haven’t done stand-up in New York City yet,” he told the New York Post back in October. “The Beacon will be the third jewel in the crown for me. I played Madison Square Garden and Radio City with The Tenderloins, and now the Beacon is perfect for my first (NYC) solo show.”

If you had the chance to see Joe at the Beacon this Saturday, you’d have thought he played there every weekend.

The sold-out crowd, much of which consisted of longtime “Impractical Jokers” fans, was warmed up with a solid performance by the opener.

Mark Jigrarjian, better known as “Jiggy” shed a few tales from his dating life in New York City — always easy money.

Now-married, “Jiggy” admitted that he dated a vegan for a while, and after they parted ways he found out she had switched sides, and now dates women.

“Guess, she really didn’t like meat,” he shrugged off as the audience erupted in laughter.

After a few more emphatic rumbles from the crowd, Gatto took the stage.

The master comic leapt out from behind the curtains with clairvoyant confidence and waving hands — his comfort on stage more than apparent.

It didn’t take long before Gatto began imparting wisdom in a show he compared to his jab at a Ted Talk.

“You never know when lights will turn out, so you might as well have fun, laugh, and live your happiest every day,” he relayed with a sincere grin.

Those opening lines were fitting, considering that much of the native Staten Islander’s set was dedicated to the woes of hurtling towards mid-life — like frequent dentist and doctor visits.

At one point, Gatto became so frustrated with booking an appointment with his cardiologist during the pandemic, that he spat out “I don’t know if you know this, but I’m Joe Gatto.”

To which, the secretary responded: “Great. Joe Gatto, we will see you in two months.”

Over the course of the set, the comic leaned into embarrassing anecdotes from his illustrious career and adventurous personal life.

At one point, he recalled receiving an impromptu massage on a six-foot, folding Costco table from a woman who he described as “someone who will come to your hotel room to rub you.”

He managed to escape unscathed, other than his airways nearly closing from the pungent odor of the flatulence she expelled whilst kneading his shoulders. Clearly, Gatto enjoys proving that nobody is too old for a dose of bodily humor.

There was also no shortage of stories from his experience as the official “Impractical Joker” designated driver since he doesn’t drink or smoke weed — which he attributes to his dietary restrictions: “Technically, it’s a vegetable. Not for me.”

Gatto then roused the audience with a quick excerpt about his other job — serving disabled, senior dogs with his ‘adopt, don’t shop’ rescue initiative.

He said it’s no surprise that his pack is named after a menu of delicious foods — like cannoli, biscotti, linguini, and tiramisu. “Pretty on brand,” he admits for a man that loves to indulge.

He’s got two kids, too, he told the crowd. Maybe if they were also christened by carbs, he could remember their names.

Who were Joe Gatto’s surprise special guests?

The highlight of the night was when Gatto was joined onstage by surprise guests James Murray and Brian Quinn.

Everybody was oozing with excitement as 75% of the “Impractical Jokers” embraced and shot a few brotherly barbs back-and-forth. By the way they spoke of each other, there was no pretending that the spark wasn’t still there. It was a reunion long waited for by fans and the friends alike.

Final thoughts

To close the evening, Gatto thanked the audience for sticking with him. And for a man who’s taken a few stumbles through life, and just embarked on his solo journey, it’s not difficult to stand by him.

Kind of like everyone’s favorite ‘funcle’ — Gatto is an ingenious wise-guy, a goodhearted family-man, an undeniable jokester. The kind of person who can always find a way to make you crack a laugh on your bluest days.

And somehow — between the fart jokes, designated driving, and decadent canine nomenclature — he served an excellent all-you-can-eat buffet of storytelling humor. Fans left fully-satisfied, while also craving more which is the ultimate compliment to an always-hungry comic.

Will Joe Gatto return to “Impractical Jokers”?

Gatto got candid with our team when we asked whether or not he’d ever come back to the show he made his name on over nine seasons.

“I’ll never say never,” he told us. “You never know what the future holds. I will say right now, it’s not on my trajectory. I’m still friends of those guys in real life, but I’ve moved on from the show. The show has moved on from me. As of right now, it’s it’s not in the cards.”

Don’t worry though — the guys keep in touch.

“We check in with each other to see how life’s going,” he said.

And, sometimes they appear on stage together, too.

'You can't claim chili!': 'Impractical Jokers' star Joe Gatto quizzed on Cincinnati trivia

Joe Gatto, who made us cringe and cackle for over a decade on "Impractical Jokers," will make Cincinnatians laugh once again this weekend. The television star and comic visits Taft Theatre on Saturday to perform stand-up comedy as part of his Night of Comedy Tour.

Gatto announced he was stepping away from "Impractical Jokers" for personal reasons last December. On the show – if you're one of the few that have never seen it – he and his friends Brian “Q” Quinn, James “Murr” Murray and Sal Vulcano entertained viewers with their hilarious public dares (and punishments).

Before his Cincinnati show, The Enquirer's News of Now editor David Wysong caught up with Gatto about going solo, parenting tips and his favorite TV memories.

We also quizzed him on Cincinnati trivia ‒ watch how he fared in our supplemental TikTok video . Spoiler alert: When asked what food dish Cincinnati is known for, Gatto was incredulous: "You guys didn't make chili. That's some B.S. You can't claim chili!" If you'd like to hear some more of his bad guesses and his made-up history of United Dairy Farmers, follow us on TikTok @ cincyenquirer .

Things to do this week: DaBaby, Peppa Pig and ... Christmas shopping?

Our Q&A with Joe Gatto on his solo stand-up comedy tour

Wysong: How has your tour been so far?

Gatto: Fantastic. Being in front of the crowd is great. Doing stand-up has been a new challenge for me and I've really enjoyed it and I'm excited to be doing an hour now. Many people have gotten to know me through the TV show and now they're getting an hour of just me and getting to know me on a different level, which is really cool. The fans have come out, the support has been amazing and it's just good to get out there and laugh with people.

Wysong: What's been different for you going solo vs. being in a group?

Gatto: I'm now responsible for 100% of the funny, where I was responsible for 25% (laughs). So, if the show went bad, I could've blamed other people, but now it's all on me, buddy. It's interesting to have to carry the whole show by yourself for an hour and that's something that has been different for me, but I really enjoy the challenge and it's been fun getting to take time to tell my stories and letting people hear more from just me. These are the people that knew me and now get to know me on a different level. I talk about the guys and "Jokers," of course, friendship stories that didn't happen on camera, so people get a little bit of everything

Wysong: What's been your favorite moment so far?

Gatto: I get this a lot, when people are like, 'Oh my gosh, this was so funny! Thank you so much, you're so funny.' And I'm like, 'Thank you?' You weren't expecting it to be? (laughs). I tell everyone, I guarantee at least three to five laughs. That comes with the ticket price. Hopefully, you'll get some more.

Wysong: Have you been to Cincinnati before?

Gatto: Oh yeah, plenty of times. Ohio fans are the best, man. Cincinnati's always been a fun town. I'm really excited for the Cincinnati show because I'm bringing a surprise special guest with me, which is fun. I have to come back (home) after the Baltimore show for a 'Daddy and Me' event at my daughter's school, and then I'm going to surprise her and bring her to Cincinnati with me for the show. She's 7 years old and she loves seeing me on stage, so I think it's gonna be fun to have her there.

Wysong: Do you have any good Cincinnati memories?

Gatto: I do. I remember somebody told me the first time I went to Cincinnati that they didn't like it. They were like, 'Oh, you're not gonna like Cincinnati.' I think we were routing through Columbus or another part of Ohio, and they were like, 'You're not gonna like Cincinnati as much.' And I loved Cincinnati. So I was like, 'Well that person was wrong.' It's the people for me. Ohio overall has been great and I remember Cincinnati having a great vibe, with people coming out for a laugh to enjoy themselves and forget all the B.S. of life going on. So, I'm excited for it.

Wysong: What has life been like for you since "Impractical Jokers"?

Gatto: A rollercoaster, for sure. I take it day by day. Things went from bad, to not bad, to OK, to good and now I'm working on my way to great. But you know, you've got to focus on different things and find a reason to laugh. Being out there in front of people and making people laugh reminds me why I do what I do. Helping people deal with their stuff as I'm dealing with mine, I think, is very therapeutic.

Wysong: And you have a podcast now.

Gatto: Yep, I do the "Two Cool Moms" podcast with Steve Byrne, which is so much fun. Steve has been a friend of ours for years. I've known him for over a decade now. He and I both had mothers who gave great advice, so the theme of the podcast is we spend the first half hour talking about our childhood with our mothers and then we field questions submitted by fans and we give our best maternal advice. Sometimes it goes OK, sometimes it's terrible, but it's always funny.

Wysong: My wife's due date is this week, so I'd love some parental advice.

Gatto: Congratulations! I will say ‒ is this your first one?

Wysong: Yep, first one.

Gatto: OK, so I will shoot it straight and be honest with you: It's tough. Most people are like, 'You're gonna love it,' and it took me a couple years to even get used to having a kid. So, don't feel bad when you're like, 'What is this thing?' Because that's gonna be your instinct. Just go with it. And it's important to remember that the mother is the most important thing, and you won't even rate for like the first two years. Your job is to try to help her help that baby. Rub feet. Wash bottles. That's my advice. It changes everything, but in a really cool way.

Wysong: What was it like being on "Impractical Jokers" for so many years, and getting to do that with your best friends?

Gatto: It was great. That's the biggest adjustment now, is that we have to actually make an effort to see each other. It's hard. One time, we went 32 days in a row where we saw each other every day, between work and promo and press. So now, when we see each other, there's like a real catchup.

Wysong: Do you have a favorite behind-the-scenes moment that you can share?

Gatto: People always love the genie punishment bit, when I was the genie. And I've gotten Q with it a few times over the years. But one of the funniest moments for both of us was when I was the genie and he randomly told me to punch a wall, and I thought all the walls were break-away, but I punched the one wall that was actually part of the building and it didn't break away. I really hurt my hand (laughs) and I was like, 'It's a real wall!' I squealed in a way that made him actually crumble, off-camera. There have been countless, countless memories.

Wysong: Besides you, who's the funniest?

Gatto: I think I'm tied for second. I've always said that Sal Vulcano is the funniest guy I know. He makes me laugh in a way that is friendship-defining. He's one of my three favorite people to make laugh: it goes him, my sister Carla and Steve Byrne.

This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

‘Impractical Jokers’ star Joe Gatto brings his solo comedy tour to the Oncenter

After starring in Impractical Jokers since it debuted in 2011, Joe Gatto left the show for personal reasons and to further his career as a stand-up comedian. For nearly the last two years, Gatto has been working on new material for an hour-long solo act, he said.

After starring in Impractical Jokers since it debuted in 2011, Joe Gatto left the show for personal reasons and to further his career as a stand-up comedian. For nearly the last two years, Gatto has been working on new material for an hour-long solo act, he said.

For 10 years, Joe Gatto was a staple of comedic television. Alongside three of his childhood friends, he starred in “Impractical Jokers,” an improvisational, hidden-camera reality show that has aired on TBS since 2011. At the beginning of 2022, Gatto left the show for personal reasons and to further his career as a stand-up comedian.

“I have come to enjoy the process of writing, thinking of material, trying out stuff that works to develop an hour of comedy and being able to grow my personal standup comedy,” Gatto said. “It’s been really great to get out here and keep making the world laugh while I was going through what I was going through.”

On Oct. 5, Gatto is bringing his “Joe Gatto’s Night of Comedy” tour to Syracuse for a show at Crouse-Hinds Theatre at the Oncenter. Gatto said he loves to perform in college towns and to college students as it is gratifying to connect with people who grew up watching him on TV.

“It really is just cool to get to meet them, interact and talk to those kids and give my little bit of life advice,” Gatto said. “Things to stay away from, any pitfalls and things to try and a little bit different and to show a different audience.”

Gatto finds it fun to hear peoples’ stories of watching the show, and hopefully, how it got them through some tough times. He said being able to make people laugh and cheer them up is one of the great joys in life and the best part of his job.

A lot of his material for the show comes from his experience growing up in Staten Island. He described himself as a storyteller and said he likes to open up to his audience about the people and places that shaped him.

“I also tell stories about my father, about my crazy mother and how that molded me growing up,” Gatto said. “I like telling stories and giving my perspectives on those.”

Since leaving the show, Gatto said he has gone on a journey of discovering himself as a solo performer. Knowing that an audience is coming out to a show to see him alone is very humbling, but challenging.

Gatto understands his set needs to be fun and engaging enough to hold an audience for the entire hour. He tries to be as honest as possible, both with himself and with the people he is speaking to.

“The rewards are bigger, but the work is harder,” Gatto said. “I really took it to heart that I was going to take this on and be a solo act and to make sure that people get what they want.”

Being from New York, Gatto said he is excited to return to the East Coast and perform in Syracuse. He has traveled a lot for his tour and is always relieved when he can reconnect with people that he can relate to or who can relate to him.

“I talk a lot about my experiences being on the road and comparing Syracuse to Appleton, Wisconsin, is a lot of fun for me,” Gatto said. “I feel like New York East Coast is how I grew up, and you’re talking to your people.”

Millions of people got to see the relationship that he had with Sal Vulcano, Brian Quinn and James Murray, but there are 30 years of friendship and hilarity behind the scenes. He’s happy the show gives the audience an opportunity to get to know him a little better and understand his life a bit more.

Gatto has grown a lot as a comedian and performer in the last 20 months, and he hopes to give the audience a night full of laughs and happiness.

“Let’s just have some fun, listen to some stories, have some laughs, get more of the guy you already know,” Gatto said. “People get to hear more about my story and my journey and understand me a little bit more and more about the show that they’ve come to love.”

Joe Gatto

Joe Gatto named his stand-up tour “Joe Gatto’s Night of Comedy” because he wanted to be clear. Gatto is known for his former affiliation with The Tenderloins, the creators of the long-running “Impractical Jokers” TV prank show. He also appeared on 50 episodes of the game show “The Misery Index.” He also recently started a dog rescue charity, Gatto Pups. He’s a busy guy.

So when he visits Connecticut in the week between Christmas and New Year’s, he wants you to know it’ll be about Joe Gatto standing onstage solo, telling jokes.

“I try to make sure … that this is a night where people laugh,” he said in a phone interview with the Courant earlier this month.

Gatto’s popular enough to play two big spaces in Connecticut in the same week: Dec. 28 at College Street Music Hall in New Haven and Dec. 30 at The Bushnell in Hartford.

The night consists of “stories from my life,” Gatto said of his tour that runs through March. “It’s an hour I put together to be a storyteller. It’s just stand-up. No crowd work really. I’ve been doing it (for) almost two years now. It started in clubs and quickly escalated to theaters.”

Gatto said his “Night of Comedy” is appropriate for ages 16 and up. “I curse a little,” he warned.

The Connecticut stops are familiar towns for him.

“I’ve been to Connecticut a bunch throughout my career,” he said. “I’m from Long Island. I had a job in Greenwich. I was a baby store salesman. I trained people there.”

Another current project is his podcast Two Cool Moms, recently picked up by the far-reaching iHeart network. He and co-host Steve Byrne came up with the concept for the show because “We both had the kind of moms who give advice.” The podcast has done a couple of live shows, another reason to differentiate his solo “Night of Comedy” tour.

How does he manage it all?

“I’m pretty diligent, pretty organized in my career and my life,” he said. “I’ve stepped up to each task.”

And he’s remained funny and fun to watch through all of it.

Joe Gatto’s Night of Comedy is coming to College Street Music Hall, 238 College St., New Haven, on Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. ($65-$75; collegestreetmusichall.com ) and The Bushnell, 166 Capitol Ave., Hartford, on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. ($50-$101; bushnell.org ).

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.

Know More about this tour

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
