(Published on Sep 11, 2013; Updated in 2021)

Many of you have been asking me, since I got attached and subsequently engaged , how I met my fiancé Ken. Some of you want to know how we got together, while some of you asked how we knew with such certainty that we are the ones for each other — within a month no less. ( Update May 2014 : We are now married !)

Initially I wanted to hold off sharing the story of how we met till closer to our wedding, because I didn’t want people to diminish my message as we have not been together long.

But the truth is that even though Ken and I have not been together long, it feels like we’ve known each other all along. For some reason, we are able to connect with each other on a very deep level, in a way I’ve not been able to do with anyone else in my life. If soulmates means two souls having an unexplainable affinity for each other be it mentally, physically, emotionally, or spiritually, then that’s what we are to each other — soulmates, on all levels.

I’m excited to share my love story because I want to inspire all of you who are seeking love or have yet to find love. Whether you are single or attached, I hope this will give you hope about love. In this series, I will share the story of how we met, got attached, and realized that we are the ones for each other.

My Journey in Love (Up Till I Was 28)

How to move on with your heart

I’ve already shared parts of my love journey on the blog before. From my longstanding singlehood , to my past heartbreak , to my experience with a dating agency , these are all part of my love journey.

But to give you guys a complete picture, up until I got attached to Ken, I was single for the first 28 years of my life.

I grew up in a household where my parents staunchly ruled that I wasn’t allowed to see anyone until I graduated. When I say “graduated,” I mean graduating from university at the age of 22. While I never gave their opinions second thought, I believe their staunch and negative views on this topic made me subconsciously devalue my desire to be with someone.

I had a couple of relationships when I was in secondary school, but they were very short-term — each lasting no more than a couple of weeks. They were so insignificant and juvenile that I wouldn’t even regard them as relationships.

When I was in university, I liked someone (as I have shared in my moving on series , regarding G). It didn’t work out  and I was left crushed, taking years to mend my broken heart thereafter.

Yellow leaves

(Of course it all worked out in the end because I eventually met Ken, my real soulmate , but more on that later. Thinking back, G was not a true compatible match because had we gotten together, I would never have evolved to who I am today; he would also not be a fit for the person I’ve become.)

I grew up very career-driven and achievement-oriented. To me relationships come and go, but personal achievements and career, these stick forever. Seeing couples part ways after three, five, ten, or even more years simply reinforced to me the transient nature of relationships and that I shouldn’t invest too heavily in something that wouldn’t last. (I later realized that this belief isn’t true and had limited me from getting attached.)

Never Been in a Serious Relationship Before

Girl alone

Even though I had never been in a serious relationship before, it wasn’t because I wasn’t appealing enough or I lacked male attention.

On my appeal, I used to think that I wasn’t  pretty ,  thin , or feminine enough to attract a good guy but I later realized that this wasn’t true and I was simply carrying very negative, limiting views of myself. I wrote about my revelations in The Beauty of Self – Why I Used To Feel Inferior about My Looks ,  How I Began To Love My Body  (series), and  How I Found My Place as a Female in Today’s World (series).

On attention from guys, I had male attention, but things just never worked out. It was always either that the guy wasn’t a match or that I had some interest but the guy didn’t follow up. I went on dates, but nothing ever came out of them. I usually concluded that we weren’t compatible and would do the fade-away thing (which I later realized wasn’t very nice when I experienced that myself).

I wanted to be with someone but I didn’t see the point of being in a relationship for the sake of it. I wanted to be with someone I truly liked and saw a future with, rather than just get together with some guy I didn’t feel strongly for.

Wondering if there was anyone out there for me

There were often times when I wondered if there was anyone out there for me at all. I would have lengthy chats with friends as we lamented about love and life, but my end conclusion would be that I, or anyone for that matter, had to remain hopeful. Whether or not there was someone for me, having a negative mindset wasn’t going to help me  find love . I had to believe there is a special someone out there for everyone, and it is by being positive and being my best self that I would attract that person, whoever he might be.

Dipping my toes into dating: Jun 2011 to Early 2012

When I was 27, between June 2011 and early 2012, I began to dip my toes into dating/love. During this time, I went on a solo seven-month trip around Europe/U.S. for work and to meet new people and experience new cultures. I thought I wasn’t getting younger, so it was really time to get out there and meet people.

I met a huge number of people, and even met a couple of relationship potentials in the process. But things didn’t work out, and I was very hurt in one of the cases. I simply moved on after that, having learned how to move on consciously from the G saga (as I shared in my heartbreak series ). Each experience helped me learn more about what I was looking for and I looked forward to whoever I was meeting next.

Serious Dating Immersion: Jul-Dec 2012

Then in June 2012 as I turned 28, I decided to give romance a serious stab. No more “dipping my toe in the water” but seriously going deep into the ocean and full-on swimming.

There were a few reasons.

  • Work-wise, I was in a very good place, receiving over a million pageviews a month on PE and getting ongoing media coverage . I wanted to pursue my personal goals, such as romance.
  • I was happy with the other areas in my life wheel , such as health and fitness (I had cleaned up my diet over the years and was exercising regularly), contribution (I was giving value to the society daily through PE), friendships (I was surrounded by positive, like-minded people), family (my relationship with my parents was better than before), and personal growth (I was more conscious than I had ever been).

I felt that I was living my most purposeful life ever and it was time to take things to the next level by working on the one area I had not actualized yet — love. I felt that I owed it to myself to give love a serious stab because truth be told, I had been putting love on hold all my life. I would always pretend that I wasn’t interested in love or say I was busy working when deep down, I really wanted to meet my special someone .

Girl with a smile

I felt that it was high time to put myself out there, date, and seriously explore entering into a relationship with someone. And what better time to do it than now, given that I was 28? I thought,  Whatever comes out of this is out of my control, but the most important thing is to put my best foot forward.

  • Arranged dating. In July 2012, I joined a dating agency (they sponsored my dating package while I wrote about my date experience). I figured I would not rely on them to get dates, but simply to use it as an extra channel to meet new people.
  • Massive socializing and networking. I also started massively expanding my social circle. I joined entrepreneur networking and business events since they were in line with my interests and would help me with my work. I also felt that meeting people in such environments was the best way to showcase the real me, since work is a huge part of my life.
  • Dating events. I became open to dating activities like singles events — a first since I would put them down as silly and awkward in the past. My good friend, W, is single and joins singles events occasionally, so I would join him when I was free.
  • With friends. I let others know I was open to dating and told them to set me up on a date. I also constantly checked with friends and acquaintances if they had upcoming events I could join. Whenever people invited me to house parties, networking events, talks, etc., I would join in. To me, these were all opportunities to meet new people, on top of attending for the event itself.
  • To guys who asked me out. On a personal level, I became open to date invitations. When guys asked me out, I would accept their dates unless I really had no interest. This was a far cry from the past, when I would turn down almost every guy for the most whimsical reason. (The latter is a terminalistic approach, something I share in 10 Steps To Attract Authentic Love .)

Dating Spree – A Memorable Experience

So for the next six months, I went on more dates than I had ever gone on in my entire life . Actually, I went on more dates than most of my peers went on in their entire lives (before getting attached). I could easily be on three to four dates a week, sometimes with pretty eligible men. If I had deprived myself in the area love/romance early on in my life, I had my fill of dates and dating stories in this period.

As if the law of attraction was at work, guys would come out of the woodwork to ask me out — and these could be guys I already knew but never stayed in touch with. It was like I was putting out the intention to date, and the universe was helping to make that happen.

I even had  married guys hit on me, something which I disagree with. I would immediately reject them. Read more: What I Have Learned From Being Hit On by Married Men

During this period, I learned a lot about myself and what I was looking for in a relationship partner. While I have always had a good idea of what I’m looking for, this dating phase developed my awareness to a whole new level. I also learned how to be a better date and partner if I were to be with someone in the future.

However… Still Single in the End

While the guys I met in the six months were of increasing eligibility and compatibility, I still did wind up with anybody.

I went to three singles parties with W and they were not my thing. The crowd and vibes of the first two events didn’t gel with me, while the third event didn’t even take place — we went but no one showed up!

With the arranged dates by the dating agency, I realized after a couple of dates that I was meeting much more compatible guys through my own circles. To be fair, maybe their database didn’t have guys who would fit what I was looking for — after all, I am quite different from most females. Also, I am already widely socialized compared to the average person — their service would probably help those with limited social circles and have no time to meet people.

As for dates from my own network, there were some promising prospects, but these were not enough for me to want to enter into a relationship. Given that I was already 28 with a clear idea of my vision and values, I wanted to be with someone I could see a long-term future with. It wouldn’t be fair to enter into a relationship with someone and break up a few months later.

I felt like I was back to “square one” — back to being by myself after so many months of active dating. I felt disappointed, empty, and jaded. I felt like I was in limbo, circling round and round.

Resting... waiting... anticipating.

It would be a matter of time before a special someone would enter (actually, re-enter) my life.

Proceed to Part 2: Meeting My Husband (Someone I Knew From Before) , where I share the (re)entrance of someone I did not expect into my life.

Stages of Love: Unraveling the Journey from Attraction to Commitment

Stages of Love

We’ve all felt it, that dizzying sensation of falling head over heels for someone. But what exactly is happening in our brains when we tumble into the abyss of love? As an expert in human emotions and relationships, I’d like to delve into the stages of love , exploring each phase from a psychological perspective.

In its infancy, love is a whirlwind of attraction and infatuation. You’re consumed by thoughts of your beloved, with every detail about them seeming absolutely perfect. This honeymoon phase can be intoxicating but it’s also temporary – a fact many people find hard to accept.

Beyond this initial enchantment lies the second stage: deep attachment. Here, comfort and companionship overrule passion as you settle into the rhythm of life together. But don’t be fooled! This isn’t a downgrade from those earlier fireworks; it’s a deeper bond formed through shared experiences and understanding. It may not be as flashy as infatuation but it’s arguably more rewarding.

So why does this transition happen? And how can we navigate these stages effectively? Let’s dive in further, examining the science behind these shifts in emotion and offering some tips on sustaining long-term love.

Understanding the Stages of Love

Ever wonder why love feels like a roller coaster ride? It’s because it doesn’t stand still. It evolves, changes and grows through various stages. Let’s unravel this mystery together.

The first stage is the “Infatuation Stage”. We’ve all been there, haven’t we? When our heart skips a beat every time that special someone comes into view. Butterflies in the stomach become a daily phenomenon. Infatuation can feel exhilarating, but it’s often short-lived.

Next up is the “Honeymoon Phase”. This is when you can’t seem to get enough of each other. You’re both head over heels in love, spending every possible moment together. Studies show that this phase usually lasts from one to two years.

  • Stage 1 : Infatuation
  • Stage 2 : Honeymoon Phase

Once the honeymoon phase fades away, reality sets in and we enter the “Disillusionment Stage”. This is when couples start noticing each other’s flaws and arguments may become more frequent.

After weathering through disillusionment (if you make it), you’ll find yourself in the “Deep Attachment Stage”. By now, you’ve seen your partner at their best and worst yet choose to stick with them anyway. This stage signifies deep emotional attachment and stability.

Finally, we have what experts call “Mature Love” or lifelong partnership where companionship trumps passion. The bond forged over shared experiences becomes unbreakable here.

Here are these stages again:

  • Stage 3 : Disillusionment
  • Stage 4 : Deep Attachment
  • Stage 5 : Mature Love

Understanding these stages can help navigate relationships better while also managing expectations realistically.

The First Stage: Attraction and Romance

I’m sure we’ve all felt it, that initial spark when you meet someone who piques your interest. It’s the first stage of love, often characterized by physical attraction and a sense of excitement. This is the time when our hearts race, our palms sweat, and we can’t stop thinking about that special someone .

What causes this overwhelming feeling of attraction? Science suggests it’s a cocktail of chemicals racing through our brains. There’s dopamine, responsible for feelings of happiness and desire; adrenaline which fuels those nervous butterflies; and serotonin that keeps us dreaming about our new love interest.

Let me paint a picture with some examples. Remember that high school crush? The one who made your heart flutter every time they passed by your locker? Or maybe it was a friend who slowly transformed into something more in your eyes. This phase is marked by idealization – seeing only the best in the other person – and intense emotions.

But remember folks, while these feelings might be intoxicating at first, they’re not designed to last forever. Psychologist Dorothy Tennov coined the term ‘limerence’ to describe this state. Limerence lasts on average between 18 months to 3 years before transitioning into deeper stages of love.

So let’s break it down:

  • Physical attraction kicks things off.
  • Brain chemicals like dopamine create happy, obsessive thoughts.
  • These intense feelings don’t last forever but transition into deeper stages over time.

Although this stage can feel like a whirlwind, it sets up an important foundation for relationship building as we move forward through subsequent stages of love!

The Second Stage: Building a Deeper Connection

If you’ve ever been in love, you’ll know it’s not all rainbows and butterflies. It’s during the second stage of love that we really start to build those deeper connections. Let me tell you, it’s more than just sharing your favorite pizza toppings or TV shows.

During this phase, trust begins to solidify as the foundation of the relationship. You’re starting to reveal your authentic selves, not just the polished versions you presented during the initial attraction stage. Sharing vulnerable moments and stories is typical during this period. For example, you might discuss past relationships or personal insecurities – yes, we’ve all got them!

Now don’t get me wrong; this stage isn’t always easy. It can be uncomfortable getting so emotionally raw with another person. But studies have shown that vulnerability is key in building deep relationships! According to a study by Dr.Brene Brown at the University of Houston:

It’s also important to note that communication plays a vital role here too – and I’m not just talking about chatting over dinner! Real communication means expressing needs, desires, fears…the whole shebang.

Here are some pointers for effective communication in this stage:

  • Be clear about what you need from your partner.
  • Show empathy when they share their feelings.
  • Respect boundaries set by each other.

At its core though, building a deeper connection boils down to one thing: understanding one another on an intimate level – physically and emotionally. That’s where real love starts taking root!

So there you have it – that’s the second stage of love for ya! While it may feel like an emotional rollercoaster ride at times (and believe me, it often does), remember that it’s paving way for a stronger bond between you and your partner. But hold on tight, we’re just getting started!

The Third Stage: Disillusionment or Understanding?

I’ve arrived at the third stage of love, and let’s be honest – it’s a bit of a crossroad. We all start off in relationships with hearts full of hope, but then reality sets in. This stage can either lead to disillusionment or understanding. It all depends on how we navigate the twists and turns.

Think back to your first love, when everything seemed perfect. Then suddenly you started noticing flaws in your partner that you’d never seen before. You may have even started questioning if you were right for each other at all. That’s disillusionment setting in, folks! But hold on – don’t hit the panic button just yet.

You see, this stage isn’t necessarily a death sentence for your relationship. In fact, it could be an opportunity for growth – a chance to build deeper understanding and acceptance. For example, instead of focusing on annoying habits like leaving dishes unwashed or forgetting birthdays (yes, we’ve all been there), try focusing on what initially drew you to them: their sense of humor? Their kindness? Their resilience?

Here are some stats to chew on:

Now I’m not saying it’ll be easy; but developing understanding is key for long-term happiness in relationships.

So where does one begin? With communication – that’s where! Talk about your feelings without blaming each other (easier said than done!). Be patient with yourself and your partner during this challenging time.

And remember: every couple goes through this third stage at some point. It’s NORMAL. So take heart – if others have navigated these choppy waters successfully, so can you!

  • Understand that disillusionment is part of the journey
  • Focus on your partner’s positive traits
  • Communicate, communicate, communicate

So here’s to understanding and working through disillusionment – because that’s what love is all about.

A Closer Look at the Fourth Stage: Creating Lasting Bonds

Peeling back the layers of love, we find ourselves nestled in the fourth stage – creating lasting bonds. It’s a step that may seem daunting but is truly rewarding. This phase is all about building on the emotional intimacy you’ve established and solidifying it into a durable, long-term connection.

Let’s get down to brass tacks here. In this stage, you’re no longer just dating or ‘seeing each other’. You’re committed to making this relationship work. The bond that forms during this period isn’t merely based on attraction or romance; it’s anchored in mutual respect, trust, and admiration.

These aren’t just hollow words. Studies back them up too! For instance, a study by Drs John and Julie Gottman found that couples who show mutual respect and admiration are more likely to have long-lasting relationships.

Here are some key aspects of bonding:

  • Shared Experiences : Activities like traveling together or overcoming challenges as a team strengthen your bond.
  • Mutual Goals : Sharing life goals aligns your path forward as a couple.
  • Open Communication : Talking about feelings promotes understanding and closeness.

By now you might be wondering how exactly one goes about creating these lasting bonds? Well fear not! I’ll walk you through some practical steps:

  • Practice active listening: Show genuine interest in what your partner says.
  • Express appreciation regularly: Small acts of kindness go a long way.
  • Keep promises: Trust is built when actions match words.

This stage of love is indeed an art – an art of nurturing, patience, understanding, compromise, and above all else… Love itself! So why don’t we roll up our sleeves and dive deeper into this beautiful journey?

The Fifth and Ultimate Stage of Love: Unconditional Acceptance

Reaching the fifth stage of love, unconditional acceptance, feels like a breath of fresh air. It’s the point where you’ve seen all sides of your partner – the good, bad, and everything in between – and still choose them every single day. You’ve moved past petty disagreements and superficial flaws to understand that no one is perfect.

This stage isn’t about grand gestures or intense passion – it’s about comfort, stability, and an unshakeable bond. Couples in this phase find joy in everyday moments shared together – a quiet dinner at home after a long day or a lazy Sunday morning spent reading newspapers while sipping coffee.

A study published by the Journal of Social Personal Relationships highlights some fascinating statistics regarding couples who reach this stage:

Now don’t mistake unconditional acceptance for complacency. In fact:

  • It means recognizing that your partner isn’t perfect but choosing to love them regardless.
  • It’s about understanding that people grow and change over time.
  • And most importantly, it involves being a consistent source of support for each other without any conditions attached.

Unconditional acceptance doesn’t mean you accept harmful behaviors or disregard your own needs. Instead, it’s all about balance – acknowledging differences but not letting them overshadow the love you share.

Remember that reaching this stage is no small feat but those who do often enjoy relationships characterized by deep respect, mutual understanding, lasting affection…and yes – plenty of laughter too!

Common Challenges During Love’s Various Stages

Navigating the realm of love isn’t always a smooth cruise. Let’s delve into some of the common challenges that crop up during love’s various stages.

The initial stage, often referred to as the ‘honeymoon phase’, is no stranger to pitfalls. It’s characterized by intense attraction and infatuation, which can cloud judgement. We become so engrossed in our partner that we might overlook red flags or potential issues down the road. We’re also likely to idealize our partners during this phase, which can lead to disappointment when reality finally hits.

Moving on to the power struggle stage, couples often wrestle with differences and conflicts. This is where individuality and independence come into play – we start realizing that our partner isn’t perfect and may not align with every aspect of our life. The key challenge here lies in maintaining respect for each other while navigating these differences.

Next up is stability – a stage where many relationships face comfort zone issues. As mundane routines set in, passion may take a back seat leading to feelings of boredom or dissatisfaction. How you keep the spark alive becomes crucial at this point.

Then comes commitment – deciding whether you’re ready for long-term investment can be daunting. Fear of losing personal freedom or making wrong decisions are common challenges faced in this stage.

Lastly, co-creation involves building something together like starting a family or business venture. Balancing personal goals with joint dreams can be tricky here.

Here’s a quick rundown:

  • Honeymoon Phase: Overlooking flaws due to infatuation
  • Power Struggle Stage: Dealing with differences and conflicts
  • Stability: Waning passion due to routine
  • Commitment: Deciding on long-term investment
  • Co-Creation: Balancing personal goals with joint ventures

So remember folks, love isn’t just about hearts and flowers; it comes bundled with its fair share of trials and tribulations. But hey, that’s what makes the journey worthwhile, doesn’t it?

Conclusion: Navigating the Journey of Love Successfully

We’ve traversed quite a journey, haven’t we? From the exhilarating first stages of infatuation to the profound depths of enduring love, each phase plays its unique role in our love journey. And just like any other expedition, navigating this path requires understanding, patience, and above all, commitment.

Remember that falling in love is easy; it’s staying in love where the real challenge lies. It’s not always about grand gestures or romantic escapades. Sometimes it’s about those quiet moments you share with your partner on a lazy Sunday afternoon or how you communicate during a disagreement.

Don’t be afraid of conflict either. I can’t stress this enough – conflicts are not necessarily bad for your relationship. On the contrary, they’re opportunities to learn more about each other and grow together as a couple.

  • Understand your partner’s perspective
  • Learn to compromise
  • Communicate effectively

The keyword here is resilience. You need to withstand storms and navigate rough seas if you want to keep sailing together.

And let’s not forget the importance of maintaining your individuality while being part of a pair. It’s vital for both partners to have their own hobbies, friends and interests apart from each other because at the end of the day we’re all individuals sharing our lives with another individual.

Lastly but certainly most important – never stop expressing love for one another. Say ‘I love you’ often and mean it every time you say it.

So there we have it! These are my thoughts on successfully navigating through different stages of love:

  • Patience and understanding
  • Effective communication

Full of energy and music prowess, Journey is undeniably one of the best music groups in history, and their impact stretches all over the world. They never held back in any of their products, and every live performance brought euphoria to the ears of many.

Even if you aren’t a particular fan of their music, there’s a good chance you’ve heard it somewhere as they’ll forever exist in film, tv, events, and the playlists of their fans.

In this article, I’m going to focus on a particular niche from their discography and break down the ten best Journey love songs of all time!

1. Open Arms

Riddled with many spine-tingling melodies and a slow ballad-like tempo, “Open Arms” is one of the most recognizable records on this list. It’s more than a fan favorite; it’s a generational hit that continues to be appreciated by millions of people.

It offers lots of open space to give the instrumentation room to shine, and the vocals come with the range we’re used to hearing while driving, an emotion that can’t be ignored. The drums clash while the guitar hits reverberating chords and solo melodies that are top-notch.

2. Faithfully

An inspirational piano melody carries this record, offering a sentimental tone that’ll get you sunk into your feelings. In a similar fashion to a lot of their songs, “Faithfully” is a passionate record from Journey that’ll go down in music history.

The song appeared on their album Frontiers, which made waves in the music scene of the early 1980s. It’s another record that immediately comes to mind when the group pops up in conversation and is hailed as one of the best Journey love songs for many fans.

3. Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)

With one of the most adrenaline-fueled melodies on this list, Journey does an excellent job of telling a cinematic story through energetic production and signature vocals. “Separate Ways” has a rocking dynamic, yet the lyrical content is a bit touching.

Sometimes love doesn’t work out, and you have to split ways, even if you still care about them, and this record touches on the emotional hardships that come with this reality. Even with the lyric’s tone, it’s hard not to get into the upbeat energy of the song.

4. With Your Love

A slow jam that doesn’t shy away from the group’s usual big production style, this song is an excellent choice for a slow dance with your significant other. It offers many angelic piano melodies and spacey guitar melodies that trickle in the background.

“With Your Love” is one of the best Journey love songs out of their discography, and it comes with a classic quality that anyone can enjoy regardless of their music preference. I’d say this song falls under the title of good music that’s timeless in all of the best ways.

5. Any Way You Want It

“Any Way You Want It” boasts one of the catchiest and most memorable hooks out of Journey’s entire career, and its use in media continues to immortalize the record. Released in 1980, the song was included on their album Departure , which kicked off a lot of the band’s new sounds for the 80s era.

Offering a distorted guitar melody that gets stuck in your head, it keeps a pop-driven tempo that’s pretty danceable. In between the big layered vocals and consistent pop drums, your ears are blessed with multiple guitar solos that’ll keep you tuned in.

6. Send Her My Love

Many consider this record of being one of the best Journey love songs due to the emotionally gripping production value and touching lyrical content. It’s a great blend of slow jam qualities with the unique energy that can be found in all of Journey’s music.

The vocals don’t hold back on range, but they are delivered in a softer tone than many other songs on this list. A lot of Journey’s uptempo and energetic music gets most of the attention, but their slower jams, such as “Send Her My Love,” come with equal quality and pristine sound.

7. When You Love a Woman

Offering ethereal piano melodies and an introspective tone to the lyrics, the record is extremely relatable for many people that have fallen in love. With the dynamic tropes of a slow jam, it holds a downtempo that gets many people in their feelings.

The way the lead vocals are layered on the hook brings every element of the song into full focus, making it seem like the production is hitting an overwhelming part of the story. Once the vocals take a break, the song breaks into an orchestral and cinematic direction that takes the record to an entirely new level.

8. Don’t Stop Believin’

Likely the most popular and well-known song from Journey on this list, “Don’t Stop Believin’,” is a record that truly propelled the music group to a worldwide status. Although people love many of their songs, this record quickly rose to the number one spot for music lovers on a global scale.

Not only is it a production powerhouse that’s hard to match, but it’s a record that leaves an imprint on everyone who has heard it for the first time. Out of their entire discography, this is one timeless record that’ll forever be associated with the group’s influence on the music industry.

9. Wheel in the Sky

An undeniable bop from Journey, “Wheel in the Sky” provides a rocking tempo with perfectly layered vocals that’ll send chills throughout your whole body. It’s infectious in the sense that it makes you want to sing along, or at the least, you won’t be able to stop tapping your foot and nodding your head to the beat.

With plenty of suspense, waves of emotion, climatic hooks, and intense guitar solos, you get immersed from beginning to end. It’s also another record from their discography that boasts one of the most memorable choruses in music history.

10. Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’

Another love jam from the group, this record offers sultry tones that give it a different flair and plenty of sweet notes you can share with a special someone. It also has a great swing to it which makes it a good choice for the dance floor.

Many of the groups’ more uptempo records get most of the recognition in conversion, but this song is easily in my top ten personally. Every one of their songs brings a unique production value, and this record is another that won’t be forgotten with passing generations.

Journey in love.

Journey of Life

For each of us, life is like a journey

Birth is the beginning of this journey,

And death is not the end; but the destination.

It is a journey that takes us

From youth to age,

From innocence to awareness,

From ignorance to knowledge,

From foolishness to wisdom,

From weakness to strength and often back again,

From offence to forgiveness

From pain to compassion,

From fear to faith,

From defeat to victory and from victory to defeat,

Until, looking backward or ahead,

We see that victory does not lie

At some high point along the way,

But in having made the journey,

Stage by stage.

Adapted from an Old Hebrew Prayer

‘ Love  is an art to be learned.

It is a giving experience, a selfless act.

Every experience of  love  gives us yet another glimpse of the meaning of  love  in God himself.

Human  love  is the instrument we can use to explore the mystery of  love  which God is’

Why ‘Stone In Love’ Was One Of Journey’s Most Underrated Songs

Why ‘Stone In Love’ Was One Of Journey’s Most Underrated Songs | I Love Classic Rock Videos

Steve Perry Live in Houston - journey /YouTube

At the peak of Journey’s career, the world has witnessed their greatness, and the stability of the band’s dynamic boosted their career even more to the highest point. Journey’s seventh album Escape yielded the most unforgettable songs that the band has produced throughout their entire career. the AOR gods blessed us with “Open Arms”, “Who’s Crying Now”, “Still They Ride”, and of course, “Don’t Stop Believin’” inside . The album was the most successful studio album of all time, and perhaps the band’s greatest as well.

But one song, in particular, was left out of dialog when it comes to chart-topping discussions. “Stone of Love” , might’ve been an incredible song for some, but the attention it received was criminally underrated.

“Stone of Love” was born out of Neal Schon’s ability to compose music, with Jonathan Cain and Steve Perry providing lyrics to the song. It was a hallelujah moment for the trio. As Schon worked on the song’s lethal touch of rock, Perry and Cain brought nostalgia to the table, making you reminisce the moment you laid eyes on someone you love during the summertime. The soaring high vocals of Steve and Neal’s fortuitous skill to make any track be remembered as quintessential, together, it’s a win-win.

It was “Stone In Love” that set the mood for Escape’s impact on the audience and the reason why it’s a classic rock staple. It may not be as fancy as the other Journey songs, but forever it will remain as an instant fan favorite.

Jon Bon Jovi Reflects on the Band's 40-Year Legacy and Roller-Coaster Journey: 'I Have Great Pride' (Exclusive)

The beloved rocker reminisces on Bon Jovi’s impact — and future — ahead of the April 26 release of the Hulu documentary, 'Thank You, Goodnight'

journey in love

Jon Bon Jovi is looking back on 40 years of rock stardom, how he got here — and what’s next.

More than four decades ago, Bon Jovi worked as a go-fer at the N.Y.C. recording studio the Power Station.

“The biggest thing I learned there was the bigger the star, the nicer the person,” he says. “It was the Rolling Stones who would hold the door open for you when you were coming in with the burgers and the coffee.”

Then an aspiring musician, Bon Jovi notes he “wasn’t rubbing elbows with the Rolling Stones, but while you were sweeping the floor or parking their car, you would observe. The bigger stars would take a moment to say, ‘How’s that demo going?’ That stayed with me.”

Jon Bon Jovi family archive

Within a few years, Bon Jovi went from running errands to releasing his eponymous band’s breakout hit “Runaway” — and soon joining the ranks of the guitar heroes he saw at the Power Station.

“I was willing to outwork everybody — I think that’s what it came down to,” says Bon Jovi, 62. “I definitely wasn’t the best at anything. I was just the hardest working, and it was nothing more than the desire to get better every day.”

Ebet Roberts/Getty

Now the Bon Jovi frontman and his bandmates are looking back at their journey from suburban New Jersey dreamers to one of the biggest, most beloved rock acts of all time in the new four-part docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story (streaming on Hulu April 26). The show gives a behind-the-scenes look at their meteoric rise and impressive endurance — along with no-holds-barred commentary on their tumultuous ride, including members’ substance abuse issues and Richie Sambora’s sudden departure.

Bon Jovi also details how recent vocal cord issues nearly forced him into retirement and led him to a new outlook on life.

Jake Chessum

“The thing that gave me so much pleasure had been taken away,” he says. “Joy is something you got to work at, right? Happiness is what you make it. It’s not about seizing the day anymore. I think it’s about embracing the day. I don’t have to punch it in the face anymore, now I just give it a hug, and that’s a good place to be.”

Born John Francis Bongiovi Jr. to his barber father and florist mother Carol (both former Marines), Bon Jovi began playing guitar after he caught the bug from a neighbor in Sayreville, N.J. Inspired by area artists like Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, he started playing on the Asbury Park music scene.

After breaking out in 1984, the band Bon Jovi — rounded out by guitarist Sambora, keyboardist David Bryan, bassist Alec John Such and drummer Tico Torres — cemented their status as rock gods two years later with their album Slippery When Wet and its smash hits “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ on a Prayer.”

Bon Jovi has sold more than 130 million albums worldwide and toured over 50 countries, picking up a Grammy and scoring a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction along the way. Those accolades were hard earned. Despite their radio and touring success, the band constantly felt the need to prove themselves over the years because they crossed genres and weren’t critical darlings.

“The only way to really prove something like that,” he says, “is just go out there and do it, do it again and do it again.”

And so they did, becoming one of the highest-grossing touring acts of all time.

Adds keyboardist Bryan: “We were relentless young men who set out to make it — and we made it.”

But in 2022, Bon Jovi thought his performing days might be behind him. Having dealt with vocal cord issues for years, he realized he had to get medical help or retire. Nearly two years since he underwent surgery to alleviate loose vocal folds that were stealing his voice, Bon Jovi is on the mend — and hopeful. The band will drop its 16th album, Forever , in June.

After weathering the ordeal, Bon Jovi says the new record “is really about my finding joy again. What really matters in a life? It’s love and loyalty and finding things that make you want to get up out of bed in the morning.”

Mark Seliger

The rocker has plenty to live for. He has been married to wife Dorothea for 35 years, and they share four children, Stephanie, 30, Jesse, 29, Jake, 21, and Romeo, 20.

“I look back at the accomplishments of the band, and my family,” he says, “and I feel great pride.”

And Bon Jovi is now living by the advice he’d give his younger self working at the recording studio: “Take the time to enjoy every phase of it. Some of it was with my head down, staring at the pavement in front of my next step. I could have looked up and saw the sun shining and the clouds in the sky,” he says. “That’d be the only thing I would tell a young kid today. ‘Enjoy that walk.’”

Brave Amy Dowden is tragically still coming to terms with the impact of her cancer treatment.

The Welsh Strictly Come Dancing professional was devastatingly diagnosed with breast cancer last May, and has been open about her journey throughout. Having graced our screens since making her BBC debut in 2017, the popular dancer, 33, was sadly forced to take a break from the latest series to focus on her health following her harrowing diagnosis.

From the getgo, she expressed her determination to get back on the dancefloor, telling fans on Instagram : "Hey all, I've got some news which isn't easy to share. I've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I'm determined to get back on that dance floor before you know it."

Ever since, Amy, who is married to co-star Ben Jones, has shared updates with fans, raising awareness of her symptoms to the type of treatment she has had and how she's felt as a consequence. Almost a year on, there is "no evidence of disease", but she is left coming to terms with the toll it's had on her.

Speaking on The One Show at the start of the month , as she hosted a dance class for women undergoing cancer treatment, she shared how difficult it was to lose her hair from chemo. "Taking the decision to shave my hair off was definitely the hardest step to take throughout my whole cancer journey but I wanted to be in control," she revealed.

"A cancer diagnosis is devastating but I'm in awe of all the women I’ve met," she added. "They’re reclaiming their bodies, finding positivity and joy at the hardest of times."

The dancer has spoken about the first moment she discovered a lump in her breast, one day before her honeymoon to the Maldives with Ben in April. She had only just begun checking herself, following a charity trek with the breast cancer charity CoppaFeel!

"I was in the shower and I felt this hard lump in my right breast. I was in shock; I checked again," she told HELLO! Magazine . After realising the lump had grown while on holiday, Amy went to see her GP and was sent for an emergency referral. It was then she was suddenly diagnosed with aggressive stage three breast cancer. "You just don't ever think it's going to happen to you. I hadn't thought it was possible to get breast cancer at my age," she continued, explaining that her mum had breast cancer in her fifties.

That month, Amy underwent a mastectomy and surgeons removed three tumours and further cancer specks, plus some lymph nodes from her right breast. But days afterwards, doctors discovered a second type of breast cancer in the tissue they removed, plus more tumours, including one close to her chest, and specks in her other breast.

It came as a huge shock to Amy. She was advised to have chemotherapy, but her first reaction was to refuse it. "I thought that's Strictly with a partner wiped out, that's my hair gone, that's my life gone. I was like, I don't want to do that," she told the Mirror . While her surgeon kept telling her she could "dance forever and ever afterwards", Amy was adamant she didn't want to do it - until her former dance teacher stepped in.

Amy was undergoing IVF to create and freeze embryos at the time, hoping she and Ben might still have children. "She gave me tough love and said, 'What's the point of these embryos if you're not going to have chemo? Because you won't be around to have these babies anyway'," Amy said.

She finally decided chemo was right. But sadly, her first and second cycles didn't go to plan, resulting in emergency hospital stays and life-threatening complications. First came sepsis , then blood clots. "They said my blood pressure was that low my vital organs would have started failing," Amy said of the first cycle. "We met the paramedics a week later and they said if I had gone to bed that night I might not have woken up the next morning."

Assured by her oncologist that she had been unlucky, Amy pressed ahead with her second cycle of chemo, only to be faced again by terrifying circumstances. "I got blood clots, I ended up back in hospital," she explained, adding that it was "frightening".

Amy recovered and as chemo continued, her hair began falling out at home, which was a horrific experience for her. "I found losing my hair really traumatic and it didn't matter how much I prepared for it I couldn't even brush my own hair in the end I couldn't even look in the mirror in the end because I was bald in top," she said.

In September, she made the decision to shave her head and filmed it to post on Instagram. "We all did it together, my friends and family got together, we tried to make it as fun as possible," Amy explained. "They inspired me and I want to use my platform to give others the courage and strength they need." Amy has kept the hairs in a small plastic IKEA bag and isn't really sure what to do with them. "Maybe I'll chuck it away when we do the 'ring the bell' party," she said.

In November, Amy told fans she was 'proud of herself' as she shared a health update after ringing the chemotherapy bell, marking the end of her treatment. In a heartfelt post, she opened up about the milestone moment, alongside a video of her hugging multiple hospital staff before ringing the bell as she teared up.

She said: "I rang the bell and I’m so thankful I got too! My toughest journey yet! These past few months I look back and think how did my body get through this both physically and mentally. From the words I’m so sorry Amy, it’s cancer and what’s your fertility plans. To having a mastectomy, two weeks later hormone daily injections for egg retrieval, a little Crohns flare up and then on to chemo plus shutting down my ovaries on the same day which sadly lead to sepsis, blood clots, losing my hair, my eyebrows, lashes (I have a few hanging in there) and three toe nails."

Amy continued: "But also it’s taken away my love of life these past few months and of course my DANCING! It’s been tough. But hopefully has now given me chance of more life which I’m eternally grateful for and I will never take for granted again. I’ll never be the same Amy again but, what I do know is I’m so much stronger than I ever knew and I have made the most amazing friends along the way.

"I hate looking in the mirror at the moment but I know this is a small price to pay and ‘this too shall pass’. I’m so grateful to the wonderful Sheldon oncology unit and my family and friends who have been there endlessly for Ben and I. We did it! All though my journey isn’t over yet, this day of ringing the chemo bell felt like an endless distance away and at points I thought I’d never make it to. I’m so proud of myself.

"I now await an MRI to determine if I need more surgery but for now I’m celebrating my chemo journey coming to an end. Thank you all for your love and support along the way. My dancing shoes are warming up and I can’t wait to get back in the training room! Now please remember to check yourselves, if you aren’t who is?!"

In February, earlier this year, the Strictly pro revealed her latest health check showed "no evidence of disease", describing the news from doctors as "words I dreamed of" and her "biggest accomplishment yet". And in March, the dancer shared how Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis hit her hard following the Princess' brave announcement.

On Instagram , sharing an image from Kate's video message, Amy wrote: "The news has personally hit me hard, thinking so much about our Princess! Cancer doesn’t discriminate. There’s no textbook, right or wrong way to deal with a diagnosis and treatment. It’s personal and I really hope all can #bekind and support our Princess.

"I was lucky enough to meet The Princess of Wales during my treatment who was so kind, supportive and generous of time. Sending all my well wishes with treatment ahead and as always to all those affected by cancer."

Introducing, Jennifer Love Hewitt 's kids! The 9-1-1 actress has shared the first official image of her three children's faces as they're featured prominently on the cover of her new book.

On Wednesday, Hewitt posted the cover artwork for Inheriting Magic: My Journey Through Grief, Joy, Celebration, And Making Every Day Magical. The whimsical art was created by digital artist Vanessa Rivera and shows the 45-year-old actress seated while holding a wand in one hand and a book in the other. She's surrounded by her kids -- 10-year-old Autumn, 8-year-old Atticus, and 2-year-old Aidan, whom she shares with husband Brian Hallisay -- and a collection of nostalgic holiday decor.

"Here it is! My new baby!" Hewitt gushed in her caption. "This incredible cover was done by an angel @the_life_of_aivax I can’t believe how lucky I was to get her for this book! Moms who create magic are special! And she is a magic maker for sure. Can’t wait for you guys to read it! @benbellabooks"

Hewitt took to her Instagram Story to address more about what fans can expect to find in the pages of her book.

"It is a love letter to my mom [Patricia Mae Hewitt]," she begins her video. "It is a little bit of a memoir. It's my journey through grief and how in grief I was afraid that I had lost magic in my life, only to find more magic. How my kids have inspired me to create magic every day."

She noted that fans will get a closer look at the birthday parties she has thrown for her kids, as well as an inside look at "what our life is."

Ultimately, Hewitt hopes her story will inspire fellow moms.

"That magic can be whatever magic means to you, whatever special things you can do," she says. "I know as moms, we're busy. It's hard to do anything extra some days. I had that this morning when I forgot to make school lunches, truth be told, so I get it. But a little extra thought, a little extra using your heart, creates magical memories for your kids. It creates magical memories for you. You will remember them forever."

As for the title, she's calling that an official tribute to her later mother, Patricia, who died of cancer in 2012.

"I inherited magic from my favorite person in the world, my mommy, who I miss every day," she says.

Inheriting Magic , from Penguin Random House ,   is available now for pre-order.

As for the stunning cover art, Hewitt reveals on her Instagram Story that she discovered the artist Rivera one morning while browsing Pinterest.

"I saw her pictures that she was creating with her family, saw some of her stories, I loved her vibe," Hewitt gushes. "She seemed like a magical making mom."

Hewitt reached out to tell Rivera about the book and, she says, "We connected as moms and she agreed to do this incredible cover."

A peek at Rivera's Instagram page reveals fascinating details behind her process, which involves initial photography followed by hundreds of Photoshop layers to achieve dream-like results.

While Hewitt had previously kept her kids' images under wraps, the actress was open about her experiences as a mother when chatting with ET in 2022 .

Shortly after Hewitt welcomed her third child, ET caught up with the actress about her emotional return to the set of 9-1-1 . At the time, she was portraying a new mom struggling with an extreme case of postpartum depression.

"What made this part interesting is having to go back to work with a four-and-a-half-month-old, five-month-old baby," she reflected. "I was so very much in my own postpartum journey. Having to play Maddie in the middle of hers, which is a little bit different than mine, but having to do that every day -- it was really hard. But it was also very cathartic and really interesting. I feel it kind of helped me in my own journey, sort of pushed through faster and be able to have a place to put it and to understand all those things that we could go through as women."

While giving it her all on set, she was equally committed to keeping the magic alive at home.

"It was scary for sure because I was like, 'Wow, this is intense.' I know the storyline a little too well at the moment... and being a mom with two other kids, you have to come home from doing all that stuff during the day and then you have to be smiley and have rainbows shooting out of your eyeballs because they need joy and happiness," Hewitt admitted. "It was a lot to balance, but it was very, very important to me, for the audience, to tell the story. For women out there to tell the story and the story really handles more than just postpartum depression. It handles depression in general and it handles people that feel maybe suicide is an option for them. We really run the gamut. We talk about all of the things that wrap back into the story and it was very important."

After spending the entire vacation with her, Luke makes the ultimate decision of his life: ditch sunny California to move to Colombia for his new love. But reality hits hard when Luke realizes he lacks the financial means to support Madeliene’s luxurious lifestyle, a far cry from his once-wealthy status. As curiosity gets the best of her, Anika books a consultation call that would change her and Kyle’s lives forever. What begins as a casual conversation about sperm donation swiftly turns into a budding romance as they discover a connection that goes beyond physical distance.

But as their relationship deepens, an unanswered question hangs in the air: will Kyle be willing to bid farewell to his sperm donation endeavors in favor of building a future with Anika? Amidst a whirlwind of emotions and uncertainties, Anika grapples with the idea of falling for the “weird” guy from across the ocean, while Kyle wrestles with the idea of committing to one relationship instead of spreading himself thin across multiple connections.

Wisconsin man accused of killing, dismembering woman while on a date

Authorities relied on text messages, witnesses, security video and phone-tracking data to build a case against a man accused of killing and dismembering a Milwaukee woman with whom he was on a date, court records show.

Maxwell Anderson, 33, also of Milwaukee, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse and arson in the slaying of Sade Robinson, 19. The two went on a date April 1, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said in a criminal complaint filed last week.

Sade Robinson.

A severed leg found the next day has been preliminary identified as belonging to Robinson, the complaint says. The right leg with painted toes was found near a 100-foot bluff by the water's edge in Warnimont Park.

A woman who identified herself as Robinson’s grandmother said Wednesday afternoon that she was too distraught to talk about the teenager. No one else with Robinson’s family could be reached for comment.

Anderson remains at the Milwaukee County Jail in lieu of $5 million bail, according to jail and court records. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.

Anderson’s lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon. His relatives also could not be reached.

'The toes on the feet had pink nail polish'

According to the complaint, someone reported finding the leg around 5:30 p.m. April 2.

"The leg was severed just below the hip socket and appeared to have been sawn off. The toes on the feet had pink nail polish. The leg did not appear to be decomposing," the complaint says.

One of Robinson’s friends went to Milwaukee police that evening to report that Robinson was not her on phone and did not show up at work. The friend said Robinson’s last known activity was a post on Snapchat the previous night about how she was at a bar, according to the complaint.

The city’s fire department found Robinson’s 2020 Honda Civic the morning of April 2, with heavy interior damage from a fire, the complaint alleges.

Four days later, on April 6, Milwaukee police found a human foot adjacent to train tracks and human flesh in the same area where the car had been discovered. The foot and the right leg found days earlier appeared to belong to the same person because of skin tone, size and "having matching pink nail polish," the complaint said.

'Yes I love seafood'

Investigators also focused on forensic data before Anderson was charged. Evidence included text messages Robinson and Anderson exchanged on April 1.

Using those texts, along with tracking data from Robinson’s phone, investigators pieced together a timeline of what they believe were her final hours.

In text messages, Robinson and Anderson discussed meeting at a seafood restaurant where Anderson used to work. Robinson responded, "Yes I love seafood," the complaint said.

Video from the restaurant showed the pair eating and talking for about an hour before they moved to a bar, officials said. According to the complaint, video from the bar shows Robinson exiting her car while Anderson leaves from the passenger side.

They remained at the bar until about 9:20 p.m., when data from Robinson's phone placed her near Anderson's residence, the complaint says. Her phone remained in that area until about 12:45 a.m., officials said.

Investigators used a location-sharing app on the victim's phone to track its whereabouts for the next four hours, until the battery died.

Robinson's phone appeared to be in the park where the severed leg was found from around 3 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. April 2, the complaint says.

Videos, a car ablaze and bloody bedding

In addition to witnesses, text messages and the phone-tracking data, investigators also collected other video.

Video from the area near where the severed leg was found shows a "human figure" descending the bluff toward the beach just after 3 a.m., the complaint says.

Hours later, around 7:30 a.m., video from a bus and a convenience store captured a man walking away from a burning vehicle, officials said. A witness walking by the area told investigators she saw a man get out of Robinson's car from the driver's side and toss a lit lighter inside, according to the complaint.

Anderson was allegedly seen soon after he boarded another bus heading in the direction of his home, the complaint says. The man on the second bus was wearing the exact clothing and backpack as the man seen walking away from the car fire, officials said.

Anderson was arrested during a traffic stop on April 4. A search of his car turned up a hooded coat that appeared to be the same one he wore on the bus, the complaint alleges.

Officials say they collected evidence during a search of Anderson’s home.

“[B]lood was located on bedding in one of the bedrooms and on the walls leading towards the basement. Several gasoline containers were located in the garage/storage area,” the complaint reads.

Milwaukee County Sheriff Denita Ball thanked her detectives and Milwaukee police in a statement for their work on the case.

“With little rest and a great deal of pressure, they have remained focused and relentless, 24-hours a day. Their efforts to carefully build this case with a host of other partners to locate and tie together evidence, will go a long way towards bringing justice and, hopefully, peace to the family and loved ones of Sade Robinson.”

If he is convicted on the homicide charge, Anderson could be sentenced to life in prison, according to the criminal complaint.
