La Tour d’Argent is a 400 year-old restaurant with an exceptional view overlooking the Seine and Notre Dame. It reopened in 2023 after a long renovation, and we recently returned four our fourth visit and loved the experience. We’ve included La Tour d’Argent among our 50 favorite restaurants in Paris.

Scallops were the starter on the Tuesday lunch menu

Since it reopened last September, I have been dying to go to La Tour d’Argent but I feared getting the wrong table or sharing my meal with the wrong person. Well I got lucky! Not only did I get the best table, because they are all good, but the friend who kindly invited me was so excited at every minute of the three hour lunch that I loved the experience even more. I put ourselves down on the waiting list on Monday and got a table for Tuesday, loved the set menu of four courses (plus cheese at 37€ if you like), talked to all 10 sommeliers and ten waiters, congratulated the head of the restaurant for his calm voice when confirming the table and loved chatting with the very handsome 42 year old André Terrail , whose mother Tarja was a Finnish model and managed the restaurant for many years after his father Claude died at 88 in 2006. André attended l’INSEAD after training at different restaurants and luxury groups, and spent the COVID years creating a boulangerie down below on quai de la Tournelle and renovating the Rôtisserie d’Argent where you can eat a very good duck.

Bookings are made for every fifteen minutes so that clients don’t have to queue to go up in the elevator which takes you to the sixth floor on quai de la Tournelle, a building overlooking Notre Dame and the bridge which leads to Ile Saint Louis. You are welcome first by the Voiturier (valet parking) (so wonderful),  who did not look worried by my very dirty car, then by the coat lady and the barmen who attend Le Bar des Maillets d’Argent (the name of the polo team where Claude Terrail played). They are cheerful and make you believe that you are the actors of their happiness… We did not have a drink downstairs and were promptly whisked upstairs to the refurbished restaurant with large windows overlooking the Seine.

The scenery is fabulous but so is the show in the restaurant

A little crystal duck stands on every table, and as soon as you sit down, you are surrounded by a ballet of waiters and waitresses who bring salted marshmallows, little appetizers at the same time as they offer the house champagne or wine. The ambiance is friendly and lively, everyone being in their thirties with a few exceptions and many members of the staff having a slight accent. On Tuesdays, there is only a set menu for lunch. But you can slightly deviate from the menu if you don’t like a dish. My friend chose a special egg instead of the sea bass (which was delicious). We, of course, had the famous duck a canton in this case. Ours carried the number 1 179 462 (they are numbered since 1890) and was particulalry tender with sugar beats treated two ways, barbecued and just poached.

We drank a fabulous Chambolle Musigny chosen with great difficulty from the list of 300 000 bottles which lie in the cellar and the help or a fun and charming sommelière. The dessert was really two. A little scoop of mango sherbet in a passion fruit juice and figs with a scoop of yoghurt ice cream lying on pain perdu… It all sounds like a lot of food but the portions are small enough that you keep eating with appetite…

As for the public, it was a nice mix of a young Italian couple celebrating the baby to come and very in love, two Japanese ladies and two American ladies having a great time on their own, a group of four Americans who looked like the Trumps, the very pretty girls dressed in Chanel and their proud father. A number of young trendy French lawyers or business men and older and maybe provincial couples. A great mix of foreigners and locals who all looked good because you are asked to wear a jacket when you book. My friend who had been taken to the Tour d’Argent by his grandparents  when he was a teenager, was incredibly moved to be back. I was enchanted by a rejuvenated restaurant with a friendly atmosphere and excellent food.

There were three things I did not like in the experience. First when you book, you are asked to confirm with a credit card which is really vulgar especially since I booked an hour before going. The second thing is that we waited for a long time (approximately 40 mns) to be served the first course. Too long because you end up eating bred instead. The third is that water is served in silver cups which I find hard on the mouth and I much prefer glass. I suppose I should have requested a crystal glass?

Otherwise everything was not only perfect and delicious but way above any standards of any starred restaurants. Of course the lunch menu at 150 € plus wine is the only one affordable for many of my friends and I have not tried the evening prices closer to three hundred. Another advantage of daylight is that you can admire the scenery along the Seine and all the way to Notre Dame. Of course most guests will want to have the corner table by the window, but we really enjoyed sitting in the back with a perfect view of the restaurant, where the action is as graceful as that of a ballet. And since the kitchen is open on those corner tables, a friend told me that it can be distracting to hear the cooks during the whole meal.

Downstairs you can wait in a little study or in the bar where Claude Terrail’s polo cups are exhibited.

Another plus is that the staff is informative without boring you with tedious descriptions of what you have on your plate… And if some of them are very handsome, others are not at all… It all feels very normal. Don’t plan too much in the afternoon because we left the restaurant at 4.20 pm and were not the last customers…

You can also have breakfast, lunch, tea or dinner without booking on the ground floor at Le Bar des Maillets d’argent where dishes are around 39€ or just a drink. And in the summer the terrace is open. An apartment with a jacuzzi on the fifth floor is for rent at 7 000€ a night.

"The pillowy quenelle, a pike-perch dumpling native to Lyon and environs and one of my favorite classical French dishes, was simply brilliant in an impeccably deconstructed sauce Nantua (crayfish sauce) that was a richly flavored as it was astonishing light. What could be better than eating on a terrasse when the weather’s nice? Not only does summer bring wonderful weather to Paris, it also ushers in a flurry of restaurant openings and reopenings. Here’s the latest food news, including the highly anticipated return of the legendary Tour d’Argent.

La Tour d’Argent

Ever since the legendary restaurant closed on April 30th, 2022 for renovations, we’ve been waiting with bated breath for news. Now André Terrail proudly announces the reopening of La Tour d’Argent on Friday June 30th. Because, “everything has to change so that nothing changes”, he said. The goal: “To bring La Tour d’Argent, the most famous restaurant in the world (created 1582), into the 21st century.”

Architect Franklin Azzi completely redesigned the sixth-floor restaurant, with   panoramic Seine views, keeping the iconic blue color, giving it a ceiling with kinetic effects. Luxuriously thick carpet, created by contemporary artist Margaux Lavevre, reinterprets and reflects the movement of the Seine.

The iconic map of Paris is reinvented by Antoine Carbonne who, through this painting in shimmering colors, recalls the history of the city of Paris and La Tour.

A bar, Les Maillets d’Argent, a tribute to the polo loving late Claude Terrail, has been created on the ground floor, serving cocktails, lunch and dinner. And up on the roof, the seventh floor, Le Toit de la Tour brings the skyline of Paris to life.

The quirky name that chef Maxime Bouttier chose for his first Paris address, “evokes, in Greek, the power of what cannot be seen, earthy fragrance,” he explains.

What about the food? To begin, a nod to Le Mans, with cromesquis of hot rillettes, served on thistles, dipped in lard, accompanied by puff pastries with Mayenne butter, black shallots and fish roe bottarga. “Everything’s going up, but not the prices at Bouillons Chartier,” promise the delightful management at BC, now part of the impressive Groupe-Joulie. 

So see you there for the legendary egg mayo @ €2; fillet of saithe (cod) with shellfish sauce (€11); Aveyron sausage, served with creamy mashed potatoes, toujours €9. And the signature chou chantilly is still €3.80. With a bottle of Buzet – €10:

Tran Anh Hung’s delicious film The Pot-Au-Feu takes inspiration from Marcel Rouff’s 1924 classic novel The Life and Passion of Dodin-Bouffant, Gourmet, winning the Prix Mise en Scene/Best Director at this year’s Cannes Film Festival . The film revives the story of a passionate gastronome who collaborates with his favorite servant, concocting incredible meals – to make sure she doesn’t leave!  Wow!

Love is linked to cooking, bravo to Tran Anh Hung who made a name for himself with The Scent of Green Papaya (1993).

Pot-Au Feu stars Juliette Binoche (Eugenie) and Benoît Magimel (Dodin Bouffant) and, notable, among the extras, a certain Pierre Gagnaire,  passionate about cooking as much as cinema – and vice versa – who, as culinary advisor supervised and revisited all the recipes used in the film.

“Tran Anh Hung dined at rue Balzac a few years back,” recalls Pierre Gagnaire. “That night there was pot-au-feu on the menu and he asked me if I’d share my input for a film he was in the process of working on. I said yes, without hesitation of course!” The rest as they say….  Chapeau PG!

I ate lunch at one of the oldest restaurants in Paris that's loved by royalty and world leaders, and the Michelin-starred meal transported me back in time

Translating as "the silver tower," La Tour d'Argent is a Paris fine-dining institution, and has been visited by everyone from King Henry IV, to Queen Elizabeth II , according to Time Out.

With a Michelin star — it previously had three until 1996, as noted on the Tour d'Argent website — the restaurant remains one of Paris' most revered destinations, steeped in history and tradition. 

However, its Michelin Guide demotion prompted the restaurant to announce its largest-ever renovations earlier this year, aiming to "bring the restaurant into the 21st century," according to the website.

Ahead of its nine-month closure in May, I went to eat lunch in its historic dining room.

The restaurant is located near the center of Paris, in the city's 5th Arrondissement.

The building sits just beside the Seine river, and is about a 20-minute walk from major central train stations Gare de Lyon and Chatelet Les Halles.

The restaurant is so iconic, it was reportedly used as inspiration for the Pixar classic "Ratatouille."

As the restaurant has been operating for so long without changing its classic ways, elements of it were used by the movie studio to help craft the image of the fictional restaurant "Gusteau's" , according to Lonely Planet.

When I first stepped inside the downstairs waiting area, it was like immediately being transported back a few centuries.

From the preserved wooden paneling to the old cushioned furniture, it was clear from the start that this place was not going to be similar to any dining experience I've ever had.

While I've had the fortune of eating at a few fine-dining restaurants with Michelin stars, none of their interiors felt as traditional or classic as this.

From the downstairs area, we were escorted through a hallway toward a private elevator to the dining room on the sixth floor.

The doorman and staff were quick to show us through the narrow hallway toward the elevator that would take us up to the dining room.

However, it very was easy to get distracted and slowed down by the decorations on the wall.

The walls leading up to the private elevator are lined with portraits and pictures of famous diners, including Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip visited the restaurant in 1948 as their first official trip outside the Commonwealth after marrying a few months prior, according to writer and historian Lauren Kiehna's blog, the Court Jeweller.

Other notable former patrons include US presidents and world leaders.

Alongside Her Majesty, US presidents John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon could be spotted in photographs, as well as former USSR and Russian leaders Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin.

After taking the elevator to the sixth floor, I was immediately taken aback by the spectacular dining room.

The floor and tables were all incredibly detailed, enhanced by the floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the room with natural light.

Everywhere you looked, blue and gold dominated the room, with tiny detailing on every surface.

I was surprised by the unimpeded views over Paris, including Notre Dame, which remains under reconstruction.

Having been owned by the same family since 1911, the restaurant's dining room was moved up to the sixth floor to maximize its views over Paris in 1936 , according to Condé Nast Traveler. 

The sixth-floor room gives unparalleled views over the city and Notre Dame.

However, due to the fire that destroyed much of the cathedral , it remains mostly covered by scaffolding while they repair the building. This is on track for completion in 2024 , according to The New York Times.

At the table, we were first greeted with a huge silver plate, engraved with the restaurant's name.

While impressive, it was shortly removed after we sat down, and was clearly just there to be decorative.

The menu items were the epitome of traditional French haute cuisine, or "high cooking," but mine didn't have any prices listed.

Our menu was very traditional, including dishes like quenelles — a technique of creating perfect three-sided ovals — as well as hake and snails for starters. Mains included scallops or guinea fowl. 

It felt a little stereotypical to order snails in France, so I chose the hake. 

But since I didn't make the reservation, my menu didn't include a price. This was a deliberate decision implemented by the owner centuries ago, according to our waiter, due to social traditions at the time.

Our three-course set lunch menu was 105 euros at the time of visiting, or around $115. A six-course menu is also available for triple the price, as well as a la carte options with mains ranging from 95 euros to 125 euros each, or $100 to $130.  

While the food menu isn't extensive, the wine list is the opposite, weighing over 15 pounds, with over 320,000 bottles to choose from.

The restaurant prides itself on its selection of wines, claiming to have one of "the most technically perfect cellars" in Paris, as noted on the Tour d'Argent website. 

The cellar is so prestigious and valuable, that while under German occupation during World War II, the owner flew across France for one night to brick up the entrance to protect its contents before flying back , according to Bonjour Paris.

The silver tower logo of the restaurant was on everything. It was even stamped on the butter.

It's clear that the restaurant is very detail-oriented, as I struggled to find an item on the table that wasn't personalized with the logo and founding date.

Once we ordered the wine, it arrived with its own trolley and basket.

Every element of service felt well-considered, with the smallest of touches helping to make the hospitality here extraordinary.

The wine basket is used for transportation up the dumb waiter from the cellar, where a worker located the bottle among the hundreds of thousands of bottles stored.

Each dish that arrived was a clear display of French fine-dining techniques.

From the hake to the scallops, and chocolate souffle to finish, all dishes were made by chefs who were very technically proficient, with each dish beautifully presented, utilizing advanced techniques rarely seen outside of fine dining.

But despite all that, we weren't blown away by our meal.

On top of the decor, the dishes felt as though they'd also remained untouched since 1936. While that's often one of the key drawing points for visitors, I've eaten far more interesting meals for less money, such as wildly creative 20-course tasting menus that include Wagyu beef fat fudge.

However, I've never eaten anywhere with this level of high-quality service.

After lunch, a quick visit to the restaurant's attached bakery and deli was the perfect final touch.

The separate bakery on the opposite corner of the building was only opened in 2016.

From the adjacent location, customers can now buy the bread used in the restaurant as well as a range of viennoiseries — leavened pastries such as croissants and pain au chocolat — according to the Tour d'Argent website.

You can also buy a range of items such as preserves and wines under the Tour d'Argent name.

Browsing the shop after our meal was a perfect way to end the experience, and further demonstrated the attention and care the restaurant gives to its branding.

It's clear from our trip that the restaurant aims to provide a whole experience for its diners, as opposed to just providing a good meal.

Particularly in an age where service in fine dining restaurants seems to be becoming increasingly casual — which isn't a bad thing, in my opinion — this lunch was certainly a memorable one.

Despite service at the restaurant being faultless, I can see why they feel the need to modernize.

My experience at La Tour d'Argent was one I'll never forget. I really enjoyed my time here as it gave me an insight into luxury I wouldn't be able to experience elsewhere.

As the restaurant closes to modernize itself and its menu, I can understand why. While I really enjoyed my lunch, the restaurant's devotion to upholding the past also seemed to limit the menu. 

It will be interesting to see how the restaurant plans to change while preserving itself, but I'm glad I came here when I did to get a once-in-a-lifetime taste of classic French luxury.

On 5th October 2023, the 1,178,727th duck was served at the Tour d’Argent . It was a Challans duck which, like all the others since 1890, comes from the Burgaud family. Loyalty is a key word in this house, where they are continuing the legacy of Frédéric Delair, the maître d'hôtel who became owner of the Tour d'Argent and made pressed duck the restaurant's speciality. He refined the serving, cutting the duck at the end of a fork, without it touching the dish. He had the brilliant idea of numbering the ducks served, a tradition kept to this day by the Terrail family, who bought the restaurant in 1911. They are also faithful to historical recipes, such as The Three Emperors' foie gras, first served in 1867 during the Universal Exhibition in Paris, to three emperors: William I of Prussia, Tsar Alexander II and his son – the future Alexander III – as well as Chancellor Bismarck.

The change in tradition:

Chef Yannick Franques, who has been in the kitchen at Tour d’Argent for four years, is not content with perpetuating history, but rather intends to bring the restaurant into the present day: “The recipe for the pressed duck has remained intact. The duck is cut in mid-air, with very precise movements, at the table, by the maître d'hôtel, then presented in two courses: the supreme with blood sauce, served on a plate specially made by ceramist Sylvie Coquet. Then during the second course, you can enjoy the confit leg, on a small skewer, with a piece of duck pudding. Today I use – as best I can – all parts of the duck, to respond to current concerns about limiting waste. I have also twisted certain dishes, like the pike quenelle, which I also prepare with pike perch. "I'm working on lightening some sauces too, and have created new dishes like the 'mystère de l’œuf' and plantain gyoza. We studied the restaurant archives a lot and took out recipes from the boxes, such as 'the lobster of the three maharajahs'. I work with ingredients that we didn't use before like yuzu, or certain spices which I find at Ankhor, which sources its produce in France. I also wanted to rethink the first course, by offering – on the Christofle silver presentation plate – a Parisian parfait on a zabaglione  which changes every season."

Looking to the future:

This legendary restaurant opens itself up to the future just as its bay windows open onto the Seine and Notre-Dame Cathedral, or rather the latter's lengthy reconstruction project. “Contrary to what we thought, the work on the cathedral does not put off our customers – it even constitutes entertainment for them. At night, the site is entirely illuminated,” explains André Terrail III, President of the establishment since the death of his father Claude in 2006. After 18 months of work, the Tour d'Argent reopened its doors. “The 6th and 7th floors have been completely rebuilt,” explains Virginie Guyonnet, Communications Director for the Tour d’Argent group. The renovation, including the facelift of the gourmet restaurant's dining room, was entrusted to architect Franklin Azzi. The kitchen has expanded and now opens onto the room, allowing customers to watch an impressive procession of chef's hats as the team complete the theatrical dishes in full view; you can watch, for example, as the livers are crushed and mixed with Madeira and Cognac, then the carcass is put in a majestic silver press. Three new spaces have been created for the building, from the ground floor to the roof: the Bar des Maillets d'Argent, open from breakfast; the Toit de la Tour, on the 7th floor, for a drink at the top of the Tower; and the Apartment, the former home of the Terrail family, today open for an exceptional stay.

The experience at the heart of La Tour:

“All the developments made over the past 10 years at the Tour d’Argent are at the service of the table, of the gastronomic experience offered to our customers. So Le Boulanger de la Tour, our bakery, works above all for the restaurant; Kévin Derpierre, our Baker, offers a specific bread with each dish. At L’Épicerie de la Tour, you can find produce from our suppliers. On the ground floor, the Bar des Maillets d'Argent opens from 9am to midnight and extends the gastronomic experience with a cocktail or digestif. We are also working on a cigar offering on the terrace,” explains Terrail. “The cellar, today managed by Victor Gonzales who succeeds David Ridgway, still has nearly 300,000 bottles. This exceptional choice of wines is obviously also part of what customers come for at the Tour d’Argent,” he adds. While their name might translate to silver, it’s a gold medal finish for La Tour d’Argent and the team continuing to bring excellence to France’s gastronomic scene.

If you had the chance to take a step inside the film "Ratatouille" and experience the world-class dining experience of the fictional Gusteau's restaurant, would you? As it turns out, you can come pretty close. The restaurant that was the source of inspiration for the film has a long history of serving well-known guests. Launched back in 1582, La Tour d'Argent in Paris is said to be the oldest restaurant in the city, and its doors have seen the faces of royalty and prominence ever since.

When the restaurant first opened back in the 16th century, it was a hotspot for kings and princes because it was a safe location for those of noble status to dine in public (it's located across the Seine River where the king's palace used to be). King Henry IV inaugurated the use of the first fork at the restaurant, which was an up-and-coming utensil only seen in Italy at the time.

On a more extravagant note, four world emperors — Alexander II, Czar of the Russian Empire, the Czarevitch Alexander III, Wilhelm I, King of Prussia, and Germany's Prince Otto von Bismarck — met for dinner at La Tour d'Argent in 1867, feasting on a hefty menu that included five appetizers, six main courses, and four desserts.

La Tour d'Argent gets a makeover

Since its days serving historical kings, La Tour d'Argent has welcomed other high-profile guests like Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Boris Yeltsin. The restaurant became known for its iconic pressed duck, classic and ornately decorated interior, and Michelin-star status . Before 1996, La Tour d'Argent held three Michelin stars, dropping to one that year. To modernize the space and turn things around, the restaurant closed for remodeling between April 2022 and August 2023.

The renovations were put in the hands of architect Franklin Azzi, who wanted to retain the restaurant's historical charm. The recipe for the famous pressed duck remains the same, but the kitchen has expanded into the face of the dining room, so guests now have an impressive view of their meal being prepared. Moreover, there are now three additional spaces for breakfast, drinks, and overnight stays. In the fall of 2023, La Tour d'Argent served its 1,178,727th pressed duck — a numerical symbol of its long and rich history.

After 60 years at the helm of the world famous restaurant, Claude Terrail retired, turning over the management to his son (Andre) whom he has been for years grooming for the position. Diners enjoy the best views of Paris from the front seats of La Tour d’Argent and have been patronizing the famous restaurant for decades. Tourists, particularly, seem to be enamoured with the restaurant's formal service, excellent food, and extensive wine list. La Tour d’Argent is particularly famous for its pressed duck recipe, revived in 1890 by the then owner Frederic Delair after he found it in an old cookbook. He then decided to number each canard a la presse and present the tag to the diner. On June 21, 1921 Emperor Hiro Hito ate duck 53,211, and fifty years later on October 3 duck number 423,900. In November 2002, Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, consumed duck number 971,612. Caneton Tour d’Argent consists of two-courses, first the breasts are cooked in port, cognac and the essence of pressed duck carcass. Later, the legs are presented in the heavy but delicious sauce for the pleasure of the diner. All this must be washed down with delightful Cotes du Rhone wine, worthy of the excellent taste of the caneton. Claude Terrail is the epitome of an old-fashioned impeccably dressed, and mannered French restaurateur who is diplomatic. He has always maintained that discretion in the restaurant trade and attention to detail are two very important factors for success. During his long career, he served thousands of royalty and dignitaries like King Edward VII, Theodore Roosevelt, J.F. Kennedy, Nobel prize winners, Alexander Fleming just to name a few. On Mondays the restaurant is closed, and then the cleaner gets the best table enjoying his home-cooked meal reheated in the venerated La Tour d’Argents kitchens.

Restaurant Review: La Rôtisserie d’Argent

Across the street from the mothership – La Tour d’Argent – in the Latin Quarter , this Seine-side brasserie has always been a cheerful and pleasant place for a meal. Acquired in 1989 by the late Claude Terrail, the legendary playboy charmer and owner of La Tour d’Argent, it fast became a local institution and has been a hit with tourists ever since.

Usefully, it’s also open seven days a week and on holidays, too. I hadn’t been there for a while, but when friends started cooing about the new chef, Jean-Philippe Tuccillo, I booked for dinner with another anglophone in Paris, a lovely food-loving woman from the American Deep South, who’s lived in Paris even longer than I have.

She always appreciatively describes this place as being old-school, by which I think she means profoundly French, with brisk, precise service and warm hospitality. The décor of red-checked table cloths and red moleskin upholstered banquettes with brass rails also speaks of the sort eternal vision of Paris favoured by filmmakers such as Woody Allen and teeth-gnashing television series like Emily in Paris.

Once seated, one of the first things I noticed on the menu is that they still serve pots, thick-bottomed 50cl glass flagons, of two reds, a white and a rosé wine, for a very reasonable price – €20 for the very pleasant Côtes de Blaye I’ve been drinking here for years. These friendly wine prices ensure that this rôtisserie remains a local favourite, preventing it from becoming a tourist table with a wilted ambience.

Given its location and the quality of the produce used by the kitchen, it is actually good value for money across the board, since half a rôtisserie chicken with potato purée runs to a reasonable €28.

“How lovely to have some good old-fashioned French food without a chef who’s trying to prove he’s Albert Einstein,” my friend said when she looked up from the menu. Well, Chef Tuccillo may not be Einstein but he’s an excellent cook, as I discovered when my oeuf en meurette came to the table.

For anyone who’s not as obsessed by this Burgundian classic as I am, it’s a coddled egg in a reduced sauce of red wine, mushrooms, onions and bacon. This latter potion serves as an umami thunder bolt in relation to the innocence of the egg in such a way that I always think this preparation might be subtitled ‘the sacred and the profane’. In any event, Tuccillo’s version was unctuously and viniferously excellent, as were the pillowy quenelles de brochet (pike perch dumpling) in a sauce rich with cream, mushrooms and chestnuts that my friend had.

Leaving the chicken to my companion – since she lives alone and doesn’t cook, roast chicken is a treat she seeks out in restaurants – I had the navarin (stew) of Limousin lamb with carrots and tiny, meaty, mauve-coloured Taggiasche olives. Ruddier than the printanière (vegetable-rich springtime version) I often cook at home around Easter, it was a richly-flavoured concoction with a jaunty Mediterranean personality that met our Côtes de Blaye perfectly. “This bird is always so juicy,” said my friend, “and the purée is heavenly.”

Since portions here are generous, we dithered over which dessert we’d split and settled eventually on the beautifully made crème caramel (the chocolate mousse is also excellent), a perfectly Gallic conclusion to a wonderfully old-school French meal.
