Canadian electro-pop act Valerie Poxleitner largely known by her stage moniker Lights began her music career from an early age. Her remarkable vocal talent was first recognised when she sang in a local metal band called Shovel Face, as well as her vocal ability her song-writing skills were highly sought after. At the age of 15 she was signed and began writing for Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

2008 was the real start of the Lights journey as she signed a record deal with Underground Operations in Toronto. Her debut single “Drive My Soul” achieved number 18 in Canada’s Top 100. Soon after she released the “Lights” EP which saw her experiment with synths and electronic pop, a far departure from her previous projects. Discovering the ambiguity of the stage name Lights meant many bands/artists were also performing under the same name, Valerie legally changed her name to Lights to allow her to continue using it.

The great thing about electro-pop acts is the expectation of a great atmosphere and electric party vibe and thankfully that’s the exact sentiment you get from a Lights show. From the get go the energy is alive with the build-up of the drums as Lights enters the stage. Opening with “Fourth Dimension” her angelic vocals soar through the electronic beats. Playing tracks such “Siberia” and “Flux and Flow” get the crowd involved as sing the filler oh-oh’s as they jump from side to side. Accompanied by only a drummer and surrounded by synth pads and keyboard, the full sound bounces from wall to wall. Ironically the lights at the show play an important role creating that dance vibe which provokes the crowd to dance and clap along. It’s not all electro, Lights slows it down during “Pretend”, just her and an acoustic guitar. Her breath-taking vocals penetrate the audience melting their hearts with its rawness and emotional vulnerability.

With a perfect balance between electro-pop, rock and acoustic, Lights provides a spellbinding performance from start to finish.

First time seeing Lights since being a fan since 2010, and I wasn't disappointed. I knew from watching live videos of her electric and acoustic stuff that she would own the stage, and especially now, after her most mature album, she exudes confidence without being arrogant, she takes the audience along for the ride, and shows them how much they matter to her. A fantastic performer who just knows how to have fun with her music, and involve the audience, and just talk to them about what's going on in her life, which works perfect for the smaller venues she prefers.

Almost half of her set was old music, but as a longtime fan, I didn't mind one bit. Everything flowed very well, the lighting was phenomenal, especially during "Flux and Flow." She had a great mix of vulnerable, slow pieces, as well as upbeat pop anthems, and flowing melodic ballads, but we come to expect that from her. Unlike her acoustic-only performances though, she could strip her music down to just that solo-acoustic feel with "Don't Go Home Without Me" but still crank it up all the way to 11 with "Up We Go." Very versatile performer, both on- and off-stage, and this recent album has given her the material she needs to hit both extremes and everything inbetween. Can't go wrong seeing her live in any capacity, but this tour is definitely one not to miss.

Even though I've been a fan of Lights for very long time I had never been to one of her shows, So I was really excited to see her. I really loved The Rey Theater. Parking was super easy and we got there early so we got good seats.

Lolo who opened for Lights was really good. We even bought some of her merch. After a 30min set Lights came on and she blew me away with her performance. She is truly amazing. Her set consistent of old songs and new songs and was completely beautiful. I really loved that she had strings playing, which made the show even more beautiful. In overall I had a fantastic experience and would definitely see Lights again and choose El Rey Theater to see other artist.

As always Lights out on an incredible show. Her latest album seems to have put a sense of nostalgia in her heart and it was definitely felt last night. They played the perfect amount of old and new, fast and slow. I think everyone left pleased with the performance. Her voice always sounds beautiful but at the Burton Cummings Theatre there's nothing else like it. You could hear the purity, passion and power behind it. Stunning show, would never miss seeing her if I were you.

I have seen Lights 3 times. Her concerts are amazing and her voice is angelic. It is a good time and just positive atmosphere. Her music in general is great to listen to but seeing her on stage watching her preform and talk to the crowd about songs and sometimes to what people shout out to her. I highly recommend seeing her. I pray she comes to Wisconsin again so I can see her live again.

My fifth time seeing her and as always she puts on an amazing show. I wish they would’ve fixed the ramp down to the standing area, it kept falling and making a huge noise throughout the show which was distracting. Bouncers were nice and friendly & the merch table was great. Overall 9/10 experience- I wish the crowd was quieter and more involved!

Lights is amazing in concert! Her voice is so strong and beautiful. She's so much fun to watch on stage! I also had a VIP ticket so I got to meet her. She is one of the cutest and sweetest people I've ever met. Her songs are great, her shows are great ans she is great!

I got the Red Sector VIP tickets which I highly recommend if you love Lights as much as I do. The entire performance was incredible. I liked the opening acts. This is my sixth time seeing Lights in concert and she never disappoints. She’s such a sweet person too.

Seventeen releases best album ‘17 Is Right Here’; announces US tour, other activities

K-pop idol group Seventeen released their best album “17 Is Right Here” with a music video for the lead single “Maestro” on April 29.

During a global press conference on April 29, Seventeen discussed the album and their career, and announced their activities for the year including a new album and US tour.

According to PLEDIS Entertainment, “17 Is Right Here” has received more than three million pre-orders as of April 19, 10 days prior to the official release, achieving an impressive sales record.

“17 Is Right Here” is a proud testament to Seventeen’s current dominance and a vow for the future.

Composed of two CDs, “17 Is Right Here” presents four new songs, Korean versions of eight previously-released Japanese lead singles, 20 lead singles from past Korean releases, and a digital-only instrumental version of the group’s debut single, “Adore U.”

The track list is a reminder of Seventeen’s self progression and their relentless evolution as artists, while the newly added tracks signal a promising way forward with much more to unveil.

The main track “Maestro” best represents such progression, weaving in elements from the band’s past seven releases–“Adore U,” “Very Nice,” “Oh My!”, “Fear,” “Rock with you,” “Cheers,” and “Super”– while innovating a style and concept vastly original to itself.

The music video for “Maestro” is set in a dark dystopian world where anything, including music and art, can be easily created with technology. The 13 members explore the concept of “true creation” as they confront and eventually embrace the unfamiliar beings introduced to them, ending the video with a thought-provoking question, “Who is the real maestro?”

Seventeen also showcased their versatility through three distinct unit tracks. “Lalali” captures Hip-hop Unit’s laid-back confidence and “Spell” delivers Performance Unit’s sensual sentiment of love while “Cheers to youth” embodies the Vocal Unit’s celebration of simple joys of life.

Members including Woozi, S.Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, Vernon, The 8, and Dino took part in the production.

Activities for 2024

At the global press conference, Seventeen said  “17 Is Right Here” marks just the beginning of what is more to come.

Mingyu said Seventeen will release another album this year.

“This year aside from the best album release, we actually will have one more album release. So this year, we’re gonna be doing two releases,” he said.

In addition, he said, “After the Follow Again tour, I’m thinking there might be another concert, a new concert. There’s also Carat Land in store.”

Joshua announced a US tour in the fall.

“In the fall, we are going to be coming at you with a new fall tour. And so we are going to be there with you, our Carats in the United States. And this is in two years since we were there with the “Be The Sun’ tour in 2022,” he said.

In Europe, they are set to grace Glastonbury's main stage and will be the sole K-pop act to perform at this year's Lollapalooza Berlin.

The 25 best christmas light displays + tours.

Celebrate the holidays at festive destinations throughout the U.S.

The Best Christmas Light Displays

Blossoms of Light at the Denver Botanic Gardens.

Courtesy of Denver Botanic Gardens

Take a serene and festive drive or walk through a light display this winter.

Holiday lights – whether they be Yule logs or candles – have been around for centuries. In 1880, Thomas Edison strung together a set of electric lights and hung them outside of his laboratory during Christmastime. Two years later, Edison's friend Edward H. Johnson wound a strand of red, white and blue electric lights around his Christmas tree (the tree even spun!). It took several more decades before such lights were widely and cheaply available.

Nowadays, homes and businesses across the U.S. deck their halls, trees and exteriors with lights, some creating enormous spectacles that draw yearly crowds. To help you decide which to prioritize, U.S. News rounded up the top Christmas light displays across America. Whether you prefer small displays that pack a festive punch or flashy shows full of glitz and glamour, these colorful exhibits are sure to bring you plenty of holiday cheer.

Price: $19 for adults and $10 for children; tickets must be purchased in advance Dates: Nov. 18 to Dec. 31

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is thrilling at any time of year, according to previous travelers, but they saved their biggest praise for the facility's annual Gardens Aglow event. More than 750,000 lights adorn 14 acres in shapes ranging from Christmas trees to round baubles to mushrooms. Lights extend beyond the gardens, too, thanks to the Gardens Aglow Lighting Contest. Communities around Boothbay will create their own displays, and visitors can drive around to see them (and vote for their favorite). Maps will be available to find the displays.

The event is held every Thursday to Sunday between Nov. 18 and Dec. 31, as well as select other days; it's closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Entry times range from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The property is located in Boothbay, a small town about 60 miles northeast of Portland .

Dyker Heights light displays: Brooklyn, New York

Price: Free Dates: Late November to early January

Brooklyn's Dyker Heights residents wrap their windows in fairy lights, twine colorful bulbs around the trees and erect wireframe displays atop their roofs come the holidays. And, of course, there are plenty of Santa Claus, nutcracker, snowman and elf figurines. Previous visitors praised the area's light displays, saying the homes are beautiful and it's a must-do activity in New York City come Christmastime. Some suggest arriving just after New Year's to explore with fewer people around.

The Dyker Heights neighborhood sits in southwest Brooklyn ; the best displays are typically found between 11th and 13th avenues and from 83rd to 86th streets. Lights go up after Thanksgiving and generally stay lit from 5 to 9 p.m. through New Year's Eve. The area is free to explore, though tour operators like Dyker Heights Christmas Lights and A Slice of Brooklyn Bus Tours offer guided trips through Dyker Heights at specific times for a fee. Tickets for tours range from $35 to $75 per person.

Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights: Bronx, New York

Price: Starts at $41.95 for adults and $26.95 for children 3 to 12; tickets must be purchased in advance Dates: Nov. 17 to Jan. 7

It's no wonder that, as one of the best zoos in the U.S. , the Bronx Zoo puts on a fantastic light show. You'll see almost 400 lanterns that represent animals from all over the world, including hippopotamuses, bears, penguins, jellyfish and insects, among many other species. New for 2023, lanterns will also take the shape of native New York species like raccoons, great egrets and red foxes. There are also light shows, a kid-favorite train ride, ice carving demonstrations, refreshments and entertainers on stilts.

Visitors say the Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights display is a must-do event while in New York City, though some note it's an expensive trip. Holiday Lights runs from 3 to 9 p.m. on select days from Nov. 17 to Jan. 7. There are sensory-friendly nights on Dec. 7 and Jan. 5 that will feature fewer crowds, quieter music and adjusted programming. You can opt for a date-specific ticket or more flexible (but pricier) any-night ticket.

Price: $6 per person Dates: Nov. 24 to Dec. 30

ZooLights at the Smithsonian's National Zoo is one of the premier events in Washington, D.C. , extremely popular among residents and visitors alike. The zoo is decorated to the nines with 500,000-plus colorful LED lights and glowing animal lanterns. Visitors can catch live music performances and sample tasty snacks as they walk through the display and admire the lights. The pathways to view the lights are wheelchair-accessible but situated on a hill with a bit of an incline – something for disabled travelers and families with young kids and strollers to keep in mind. The event runs on select days from Nov. 24 to Dec. 30 (mostly on weekends) and is open from 5 p.m. until 8 or 9 p.m., depending on the day.

Overall, many love checking out ZooLights each year, but some warn that it can get crowded and note that the animals are not out. Though it was free in years past, ZooLights now charges a small entry fee to help offset the cost of the event, while concession and parking proceeds will contribute to animal care. There is a parking fee of $30; if you wish to visit by Metro, the nearest stops are Cleveland Park or Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan on the Red Line.

Travelers agree the lights are gorgeous, but some complained about the traffic (especially on Saturdays) and felt the attractions did not justify the ticket price.

Lights are on from Nov. 4 to Jan. 1, though Koziar's is only open on weekends up until Thanksgiving. Specific hours vary depending on the month and day, but you can generally visit from 5 or 6 p.m. to 9 or 10 p.m. Note that on designated prime nights, each ticket is $4 extra than the standard pricing.

The Rolling Stones show no signs of slowing down as they begin their latest tour with Texas show

HOUSTON — Time marches on and all good things must come to an end. But don’t tell that to The Rolling Stones .

What many believe to be the greatest rock ’n’ roll band in the world showed no signs of slowing down anytime soon as they kicked off their latest tour Sunday night at Houston’s NRG Stadium.

The Stones have been touring for more than 60 years. Frontman Mick Jagger and lead guitarist Keith Richards are both 80, with guitarist Ronnie Wood not far behind at 76. Their tour is being sponsored in part by AARP.

But during a vibrant two-hour show, the Stones played with the energy of band that was on tour for the first time.

“It’s great to be back in the Lone Star State,” Jagger told the packed stadium, filled with longtime fans, many wearing faded concert shirts from previous tours.

Jagger often strutted up and down the stage with seemingly boundless energy while Richards and Wood played many familiar guitar riffs beloved by fans. Jagger often led the audience in sing-alongs.

“The energy level is up and it’s always up with them. The age doesn’t show,” Dale Skjerseth, the Stones’ production director, said Friday before the concert.

The Stones have hit the road to support the release of their latest album, “Hackney Diamonds,” the band’s first record of original music since 2005.

Houston was the first stop on the band’s 16-city tour across the U.S. and Canada. Other cities on the tour include New Orleans, Philadelphia and Vancouver, British Columbia. The tour ends on July 17 in Santa Clara, California.

During Sunday’s 18-song concert set list, the Stones played several tracks off the new record, including lead single “Angry.” They also played classics including “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Gimme Shelter,” Honky Tonk Women” and “Start Me Up.”

After playing “Beast of Burden,” Jagger said that concertgoers in Houston had voted to include it on the set list.

“You can’t go wrong with that,” one man in the audience could be heard screaming.

The Stones also played some unexpected choices, including “Rocks Off,” from their 1972 double album “Exile on Main St.” and “Out of Time,” a 1966 song that Jagger said during the concert had not ever been played by the band in the U.S.

With the 2021 death of drummer Charlie Watts , the Stones are now comprised of the core trio of Jagger, Richards and Wood. On Sunday, they were backed by various musicians including two keyboardists, a new drummer, backup singers and a brass section.

While the stage was surrounded by a large collection of video screens projecting images throughout the show, the main focus of the concert was the band and their songs

Before Sunday’s concert, Jagger spent time on Friday touring NASA’s Johnson Space Center in suburban Houston, posting photos on his Instagram account of him with astronauts inside Mission Control.

“I had an amazing trip to the space center,” Jagger said.

When asked if the band might be thinking about retiring, Skjerseth said he doubts that will happen.

“This is not the end. They’re very enthused,” he said.

This story has been updated to correct a song title to “Gimme Shelter,” not “Gimmer Shelter.”

What is the Tacky Lights Tour?

Every year Richmond, Virginia hosts the most spectacular Christmas light displays. Hundreds of homeowners decorate their homes with ridiculous amounts of Christmas lights. Cars, limos and buses filled with families, friends and coworkers plan tours throughout the city of Richmond and its suburbs like Henrico, Chesterfield and Hanvover. The Tacky Lights Tour has become an annual tradition for thousands of people.

Is the Tour of Lights Tacky?

No! These spectacular Christmas lights are not tacky at all! In Richmond, tacky is a term of endearment. Tacky represents the houses most overloaded with Christmas lights. Tacky comes in all colors, blinking sequences and holiday designs. Tacky is a Christmas label Richmonders respect and adore.

How to plan a Tacky Lights Tour?

Choose dates and times for your lights tour, gather new friends and family to tour the lights.

While some people might enjoy going out on their own, others prefer to have a group with them. If you fall into the latter category, then you'll be happy to know that there are plenty of ways to gather friends and family and join in on the fun. One option is to rent a van or limo and hit the town together. Or, if you're looking for something a little more laid-back, you can book a bus and tour the countryside. No matter what you decide to do, gathering friends and family together is sure to create lasting memories.

Map a Route to Lights in Richmond

One of the best parts of the holiday season is taking in all of the amazing light displays. If you're looking to plan a route that will take you to some of the best light displays in your area, here are a few tips to help you map it out. First, take a look at your local times dispatch newspaper or website. Many times they will have a list of the best light displays in your area. Once you've made a list of the ones you want to see, start mapping out your route. Keep in mind that some displays may be closed on certain days or times, so you'll want to plan accordingly. Finally, don't forget to factor in things like traffic and parking when you're planning your route. By taking these things into account, you can ensure that you'll have a magical night checking out all of the best light displays in your area.

Dress in Tacky Outfits for the Lights Tour

The holidays are a special time of year when families come together to celebrate. For many, this means dressing up in their best clothes and attending holiday parties. However, there is also a tradition of dressing up in tacky holiday outfits for the occasion. This practice is thought to have started in the Victorian era, when people would dress up in outlandish costumes for times such as Mardi Gras and Halloween. The tradition has continued in modern times, with people often wearing tacky sweaters or Santa hats to holiday parties. While some people find this practice to be in bad taste, others see it as a fun way to celebrate the holidays. Whichever side you fall on, there's no denying that dressing up in a tacky holiday outfit can be a fun way to celebrating the season.

Taylor Swift : The Eras Tour AMC Entertainment

After Covid shut down AMC and the rest of the globe’s multiplexes and the actors strike ratcheted down the box office, you could say that the No. 1 exhibitor was taking its fate into its own hands with Taylor Swift: The Era’s Tour . However, it has Scott Swift, Taylor Swift’s father, to thank. He reportedly made the call to AMC CEO Adam Aron to sidestep studios and gain more cash in taking his daughter’s movie from her $1 billion-plus-selling, sold-out concert tour directly to AMC. Why have a studio walk away with a ton of cash and spend tens of millions in marketing when Swift with a then-near-400 million social media followers is the best form of advertisement? She tweeted a few times to promote the movie, and showed up at her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs games to drum up her $15M Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film as a must-see. The movie also received a SAG-AFTRA waiver, which allowed the pop star to show up at her own Los Angeles world premiere and do publicity. The result: $100M in global advance ticket sales. AMC, to avoid antitrust issues, hired Gotham-based distributor Variance Films to book cinemas across the nation, and Trafalgar to handle the overseas release. Much to the chagrin of the studios, who had their thing to say about Aron’s entry into the distribution business, they all started moving their movies away (i.e., Universal’s The Exorcist reboot, Lionsgate’s Ordinary Angels ) from Eras Tour and its arrival on the calendar October 13. Swift cleverly tailored her marketing to fans, releasing the movie on a date that reps her lucky number, with tickets priced at $13.13 for children and seniors. Initially she wasn’t going to preview the movie, looking to open hard on 10/13. At the last minute, during the week of release, Swift changed her mind and opted for last-minute Thursday previews (they only yielded $2.8M).

Billy Joel sings 'Uptown Girl' at NYC show as Christie Brinkley dances along

Brinkley starred in the song's music video and was one of its inspirations.

Billy Joel is still singing to his "Uptown Girl," ex-wife Christie Brinkley .

A recent fan video shows Joel singing his hit 1983 song "Uptown Girl," which was inspired by Brinkley, at a recent New York City concert. In the video, Brinkley is shown on the big screen at Madison Square Garden laughing and dancing along as Joel belts out the lyrics.

"Billy Joel wrote 'Uptown Girl' about his then-partner Christie Brinkley," read text overlaid in the fan video. "Tonight she watched him sing the song he wrote about her to all of Madison Square Garden."

"Uptown Girl" was released in 1983 and immediately gained widespread popularity, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was eventually certified triple Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and remains a beloved hit several decades later with its catchy chorus.

In a 2010 interview with Howard Stern, Joel confirmed that although he initially began writing the song about several women, he eventually became focused on Brinkley.

To help mariners navigate the tricky Point Reyes Headlands, the U.S. Lighthouse Service built this lighthouse in 1870 in Inverness, California. At sundown, the lightkeeper would light the oil lamp inside the first-order Fresnal lens, which would then be rotated by a brass clockwork mechanism, sending a beam of more than 1,000 prisms out to the sea.

Halfway Rock Lighthouse is so difficult to access that it was deemed a “stag lighthouse” at the peak of its service—for their safety, lightkeepers’ families were strictly forbidden. Taylor Swift Is ‘Fired Up’ to Return to ‘Eras Tour’ After ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Success

Taylor Swift Is Fired Up to Return to Eras Tour After ‘The Tortured Poets Department Success

Taylor Swift is just as excited as her fans to resume her Eras Tour , all thanks to the streaming success of The Tortured Poets Department.

“My mind is blown. I’m completely floored by the love you’ve shown this album,” Swift, 34, wrote via X on Sunday, April 27, sharing snaps from the TTPD recording process. “2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed.”

She continued, “I was already so fired up to get back to the tour but you doing THIS?? May 9th can’t come soon enough.”

Swift released TTPD , her 11th studio album, on April 19 with plenty of tortured poetry about exes Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy , plus declarations of love for now-boyfriend Travis Kelce . The album dropped during Swift’s hiatus from The Eras Tour , which she started in March 2023 to celebrate all of her past records.

Taylor Swift Will Resume The Eras Tour in May 2024

While there are sections for most of Swift’s iconic LPs (save for her self-titled debut) and a rotating surprise song part, it is not known if TTPD will make the setlist. Swift’s concert return is set for Thursday, May 9, in Paris before she traverses across Europe and the United Kingdom throughout the spring and summer. In the fall, Swift brings the stage shows back to North America.

Taylor Swift Is Fired Up to Return to Eras Tour After ‘The Tortured Poets Department Success

Many Swifties do believe TTPD will get a designated Eras section based on a social media video that the pop star shared on Thursday, April 25. In the YouTube Short clip, Swift was seen rehearsing her tour choreography but fans did not recognize the moves from previous shows.

“Why do I feel like these are definitely rehearsal pics for TTPD songs ‘cause when have we ever had the dancers with hats and sticks,” a social media user wrote via X.

Other fans noticed that, at one point, Swift leaned on a railing that featured mystery white letters.

“That’s the TTPD logo on the railing,” one user pointed out via X. “Omg TTPD is getting her own set at The Eras Tour !”

Swift has not commented on the fan theories, but at each show she has mentioned how she’s loved being back on stage for the first time in four years. The summer Eras shows, however, will be bittersweet for the Grammy winner since she’ll be away from Kelce, 34.

Swift and Kelce, who have been dating since summer 2023, spent her tour hiatus together on the West Coast. (After downtime in Los Angeles, they jetted off to Las Vegas for the Saturday, April 27, charity auction hosted by Patrick Mahomes ’ nonprofit. Swift donated four tickets to Eras concerts in the United States.)

“[They have] deepened their bond,” the insider exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month. “It makes the prospect of her tour more challenging. She’ll be sad, [but] they support and respect [each other]. They have busy careers, so they understand those commitments, as difficult as it is.”

Kelce is expected to attend some of Swift’s overseas shows, telling Entertainment Tonight in April that her London concerts at Wembley Stadium will surely be incredible.
