LIZZY BORDEN Releases First New Single In Five Years, 'Death Of Me'

Since 1983, the name Lizzy Borden has been synonymous with heavy metal music of the highest caliber. Now, Lizzy Borden returns with first new original music since his critically acclaimed release "My Midnight Things" , released in 2018, with the digital single "Death Of Me" , out now.

The new single was engineered, produced, mixed and mastered by Kane Churko ( OZZY OSBOURNE , PAPA ROACH , FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH , IN THIS MOMENT ).

Lizzy Borden had this to say about the new song: " 'Death Of Me' was a fantastic experiment! Kane Churko was Dr. Frankenstein , and I was the monster screaming in the vocal booth as he blasted bolts of electricity again and again, searching for the perfect vocal performance.

"Working with people that can push me out of my comfort zone is something I've always strived for. Because of that, I don't think I've recorded the same sounding album twice. Every song I write is a chance to try something new.

"In my first conversation with Kane about working together, he said, 'I don't know how to do what you do, and I don't think you've spent too much time in my world. Are you sure you want to try this?' I took that as a dare!"

Lizzy continued: "We spent the first two hours in the studio just talking. Kane was trying to get a sense of what kind of song I was looking to write with him. After recording album after album, and performing all over the world throughout the decades, the one word that came to mind was perseverance. The two of us might as well have come from different planets on the way we approach music, but treading your way through this life with one obstacle after another is a universal subject… that's the song I wanted to write.

" 'Death Of Me' is a song about never giving up and never letting anyone take you down, and reveling in the fact that none of this will be easy but we're going to do it anyway. Cut me up 'till I bleed but you won't be the death of me."

In regard to the music video, Lizzy had this to say: "Working with Robert Graves was very reminiscent of when I worked with a young Zack Snyder ( 'Superman' , 'Batman Vs Superman' , 'Justice League' ) on the 'Love Is A Crime' video from the 'Master Of Disguise' album. They both have a very similar directing style, and it felt like we were making a movie instead of a music video. Robert heard the song and after a quick phone conversation came back with this storyline.

"We had a blast filming this little gothic horror story. Boy stalks girl, girl traps boy like a spider to a fly, boy finds out too late that he was the victim all along; a tale as old as time itself.

"I hope everyone has as great a time watching this video as we had filming it. See you on the other side."

Lizzy Borden has the following live dates scheduled for 2023/2024:

December 3, 2023 - Mexico City, MX @ Life After Death Horror Fest February 23, 2024 - Hollywood, CA @ Whisky A Go Go March 2-7, 2024 - Monsters Of Rock Cruise

Tours With Lizzie Borden House

The Lizzie Borden House offers three types of tours offered daily, two of which are newly added in June 2021, and virtual options that are just as entertaining, and can be viewed at home.

Each tour is unique and offers a different perspective on the Lizzie Borden history, events, and home. The house tours are offered in the late mornings and afternoons, and it is the only tour where you can visit all of the rooms in the house, including where Abbie Borden was murdered. Ghost tours are the newest addition to our tour lineup. They are held in the evenings and include a tour out in town as we visit other haunted locations nearby to hear their stories, and of course we’ll take you through the first floor of the Lizzie Borden house, where Andrew Borden was found murdered in 1892. The ghost hunt is the only experience where you can go into the basement of the Lizzie Borden house, where it is believed the murder weapon was hidden and evidence disposed of. Ghost hunts are the newest experience at the Lizzie Borden house, and includes ghost hunting equipment.

Ghost hunts are a great companion for those who want to conduct a “ghost hunt” inside the Lizzie Borden House. Hunts take place on the first floor and in the basement. Admission includes your own ghost hunting equipment that you’ll share with others in your group. The ghost hunt will begin with a short synopsis of the history and characters of the house, as well as the events leading up to and including the day of the murder. Your task: use ghost hunting equipment and your knowledge of the case to attempt to solve the mysteries of what happened on that fateful day. Ghost Hunts will be divided into two groups of 13 people each. One group will investigate the first floor, where the autopsies were conducted and where the body of Andrew Borden was found, while the other stakes our the basement, with dim, low-lit lighting. We’ll show you how to use the equipment and turn off the lights before you delve into the eerie darkness of the Lizzie Borden house.

Band Interview: Lizzy Borden

Following the release of their compilation album, Best of Lizzy Borden, Vol. 2, Games Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life had the pleasure of talking with seminal frontman and vocalist of the band, Lizzy Borden. Below is a transcript of some of the major talking points but you can listen to the full thing on YouTube , Soundcloud , Spotify and Apple Podcasts .

Buy Me a Coffee at ko-fi.com

Hi Lizzie, thank you for taking the time to speak with me. How have you been holding up through 2020?

Its been a difficult year. I have my recording studio in my house, so I’m pretty much doing what I do no matter what is happening outside. So, it could be a complete apocalypse and I’d still be in here recording. So nothing’s changed that drastically for me but yeah, I mean, its been crazy.

So you very much in a self-contained world then?

Yeah, that’s what I do. I just isolate myself off and just, you know, try to write songs that I like. It’s not always easy, for every for every 15, I’ll get 1 that I like.

That’s wicked output by the sound of it, about 1 out of 15.

Yeah, but it takes a while to actually finish all those before I realise I don’t like them.

How did you go about selecting the songs that would make up Best of Lizzy Borden, Vol. 2?

I come from the old school, so, you know, it’s all about albums and then cassettes and then CDs and then the streaming world happened. It took a long, long time for people to catch up, including me. And once I got into it, I really liked it. So I went on one of the platforms to find out which was our biggest streaming album. And it turns out Best of Volume 1 is our biggest streaming album!

You could probably say that about every artist. You know when people find an artist, they just go right to the best stuff. So that was my thought process. I said, you know, our biggest streaming album is best of Volume 1. So, the last three albums were not on that. So I figured let’s make the Best of Volume 2 but surrounding the last three albums.

I didn’t want to pick a slew of songs, I just picked four songs from each record and then we did two covers. So finding those songs, they either really generated something live when we played them and everyone just loved them. Or we did a video or those are the songs I hear the feedback most of from fans. So it was pretty easy to pick the songs that got the most response over the last few years. I didn’t try to dig deep and find some obscure song that no one knows about. I really wanted to pick the four songs that represent those three records.

lizzy borden band tour

As you said, it features two covers, the first being a gripping version of the Ramones’ Pet Semetery. Where did the interest in covering that come from?

Well, last year, we did a one-off show at the Whiskey in Hollywood, played there a million times, but this was kind of a special show.

As you know, we were on the My Midnight Things tour but this was just a one off and it was Halloween night. And I said I really wanted to do something special and I only cover songs that really meant something to me when I was a kid. Every one of these songs that we cover are songs that had an effect on me.

And so the Ramones, they had a big effect on me.

You know, Lizzy Borden started as a punk band. Our first demos, everything we did was all punk. The Ramones was my favourite punk band and Pet Semetery was an odd song for them. And that made it perfect for me. I think. So that’s why I chose it.

Also it was Halloween night and I wanted to do something special for the show at the Whiskey, you know, because you never know how long the Whiskey is going to be around. So we learned that one and it wasn’t easy because there’s a lot of lyrics. It’s like some weird story, which is, again, unlike the Ramones. But it was great. We crammed it in and we got through it. But after that I said, you know what? We did a good version of that. Let’s record it.

Likewise, I think people would be quite surprised to see the other cover, Blue Oyster Cult’s Burnin’ for you. What about that track then?

Well, when we This Ain’t the Summer of Love in 2000 on the Deal With The Devil record, I wanted to do Burnin’ For You but I got outvoted by my producer at the time. It would have been perfect for the Deal With The Devil album but I got outvoted and I was fine with that.

So when we decided we wanted to do at least two covers on this best of, I got my chance to do it. Then when we recorded it, you know, sometimes I’ll take a song and I’ll make it my own. Sometimes I like to try to keep it the way it was. With Burnin’ For You, I tried to make it my own at the beginning and it felt sacrilegious. You know, that song meant so much to me that I didn’t want to reinvent it. It was perfect the way it was. So we really stuck to the script on it and I think it turned out pretty good.

I like your thinking. A cover is a tribute as well, to some degree but you also want to have your own spin on it. Inevitably, it does sound exactly like Lizzy Borden. But obviously Blue Oyster Cult too!

Yeah, a lot of people say that. I mean, I guess it’s my voice. Everyone says it sounds like a Lizzy Borden song. Even when we played Pet Semetery live a couple of more times and people came up saying “that’s a great new song” because, a lot of these people don’t know the history, so they didn’t know it was a Ramones cover and they thought it was the Lizzy Borden song!

It’s pretty interesting from my point of view. I’m singing a classic song that meant a lot to me. But from their point of view, it sounds like a Lizzy Borden song. I’m happy however people perceive these things.

You’re looking at a near 40 year career, can you put your finger on just how you’ve managed to stay so relevant throughout the years?

I think it’s because I don’t want to keep recording the same album. I grew up on David Bowie and all these people trying to constantly reinvent themselves. And that’s where I come in. That’s where I come from. I see a lot of heavy metal people staying in their comfort zone and I know that I could do that and retain my fan base. I know every time I take a chance I’m going to lose part of my fan base, but it’s worth it to me.

To record the same song over and over and over again. I just can’t do it. I’m trying to constantly be a better songwriter and constantly grow in different directions. It’s fun for me and I think that is the thing that bleeds through. I’m not just going through the motions.

It’s still fun and I’m still learning all the time.

So that’s why I’ve been able to keep doing this, because it’s still fun for me not to do the same old songs, but to constantly try to improve and be a better songwriter.

How difficult was you was it for you to adapt to the world of streaming?

I was hardcore against it for a long time, I’m from the old school. Just having that physical thing in my hand, the whole experience behind it… I loved it all. So letting go of that was weird.

But I also went through all of this stuff when I’d walk into a record store and all the albums were gone and it was just CD, so I had to adapt to that.

The streaming world, it’s not financially beneficial to anybody. Once I signed up for one of the platforms, went to all my favourite artists and downloaded all the records. I’m looking through and I’m going ‘oh my God’, I don’t even know they did this. I didn’t know they did that. I didn’t know. And there’s a slew of records I didn’t know existed. So, it really made me go, OK, well this is a benefit. I get to hear these things I didn’t know even existed.

There are so many things you can do with the streaming thing, I hope it becomes more interactive. I don’t know if that’s possible, but as far as me adapting to it, I finally came around.

How does work on the next album go? Are things looking bright and exciting in the Lizzy Borden camp?

Yeah, I mean, as I was saying before, I’m learning so much and technology has afforded me the ability to explore and do things. Every day I’m recording something that I’ve never recorded before and I’m singing and doing different things that I haven’t done before.

Lyrically, I’m a better lyricist now than I’ve ever been, I think.

We’re knee deep in the new record and we’re doing it kind of interesting this time. Like I said, I constantly want to try and do things different. So, we’re doing one song at a time to its completion because I have the time, you know, because of this virus. Which is pretty interesting because I get to see what else the album needs, you know, as I go.

So, we’re on our almost fourth song and I get to see where the album moves and what it needs, what the complement to that song is going to be, what the complement to the next song is going to be. So it helps me to write because these songs are done. I get to hear them. Not a demo. They’re not a rough version, they’re the finished song.

So I’m going, OK, well, I like that but now we need this and I like that, but now we need this. So it’s very different than anything we’ve ever done. I’m having more fun making this record than I ever have making any record because I like that sense of accomplishment. Usually I’m spinning plates, I’m writing 10, 15 songs at the same time, and I’m just doing a little bit on each song per day.

Some of those songs, you know, at the end get rushed. They suffer a little bit because they didn’t get the attention that I paid to the songs in the earlier phase of writing and recording. So when I get to do everything that I want to do to a song before I move on, there’s a sense of accomplishment. So it makes me hungry to do the next song and write the next song.

lizzy borden band tour

Breaking into Billboard 200 four times, each album the band has put out has stood tall with a unique story all it’s own. Now, rising from the underground once more, Lizzy Borden return with My Midnight Things , their first studio album in 11 years! A long overdue return, the new music bring a rejuvenated Lizzy Borden to the forefront, one prepared to do some big touring in the USA and beyond. Recently we caught up the mastermind, Lizzy Borden himself to talk the wild ride of the past 35 years, the work behind My Midnight Things , plans for the future, plus much more.

CrypticRock.com – Lizzy Borden came together 35 years ago and in that time the band has attained its share of commercial success. Through the ups, downs, and everything in between, what has the journey been like for you?

Lizzy Borden – Like you said, ups and downs. (Laughs) It’s been amazing, difficult, frustrating, a life lived. We have journeyed all over the world – played in places I never thought I’d even play, let alone go. It’s been amazing, but this is a restart, so the ride is just kind of restarting again. It’s all brand new again, so it’s pretty cool.

CrypticRock.com – It is great to see the band back in full force! Lizzy Borden has always been uniquely their own. A combination of great songs that are catchy and heavy, do you think that sometimes the band is unfairly lumped into the more Popish Glam Metal scene of the 1980s?

Lizzy Borden – I don’t know if it’s unfair, because every one of my influences came from the ’70s. From the Bowie Glam side of things. All those bands like Sweet, I loved. I loved the heavier stuff too. I love Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, and all those bands as well. It was kind of a split personality. I kind of did this to myself, I didn’t join a club. I didn’t decide to go on the heavy side or the Glam side, or whatever, I just did what I wanted to do and wrote the songs I wanted to write. Unfortunately, especially in North America, they love to lump you in certain categories. If they can’t, you get left out, or you are not part of the conversation, because you are not part of any clique. That is kind of what it was for me. I didn’t pick a side.

I grew up on all the theatrical bands, and some of those were part of that ’70s Glam movement, mostly in the UK. It trickled to the Glitter Rock scene with KISS and some of the other bands in New York. I was part of the whole theatrical thing, that is the stuff I grew up on. Like I said, I loved the heavy stuff too, and that, in it’s own way, had a look about it. I kind of mixed the two together.

lizzy borden band tour

CrypticRock.com – Yes, and you are right about the North American market. If you cannot fit in a box, you kind of can be forgotten about sometimes.

Lizzy Borden – Yea, and I knew that, but it didn’t stop me. I didn’t want to have to write one thing. I just wanted to do what I wanted to do. It’s not art if you have to write a certain song because you are in a certain category.

CrypticRock.com – Agreed. Throughout the years there has been members of Lizzy Borden that have come and gone, but Joey Scott has remained consistent in the band’s varied lineups. What is the working chemistry like with him, and this current configuration of the band?

Lizzy Borden – It’s amazing! I don’t even have a band right now, it’s just Joey on drums and me. He grew up on the same thing I did, so there is a shorthand. When I decided I wanted this record to sound a certain way, and I wanted it to be pure, I didn’t want bring in other people with their influences. I wanted to really do a record the way this record sounds.

There was very little convincing for Joey, when he heard the very first couple of songs I had demoed, he was in love with it. He actually had a big smile on his face when he was tracking his drums, this is right up his alley. It was very easy, we produced the last 2 records together, it’s second nature. The things he’s good at, I’m not, and the things I’m good at, he’s not. It’s a great working relationship.

CrypticRock.com – It certainly has worked well over the years. The new album,  My Midnight Things,  is due out June 15th through Metal Blade Records. Your first studio album in over a decade, what was the writing and recording process like this time around?

Lizzy Borden – For me, we finished the anniversary tour in Russia. I just said, “Ok, I don’t know what I want to do, but I don’t want to keep creating shows without putting out an album.” I knew Metal Blade wanted to sit down with me and talk me back into making records again. After that tour, I let the band go, and they went off to join other bands. As soon as I sat down with Brian Slagel of Metal Blade, he told me that the industry is different, especially with Metal Blade, they are bigger than they ever were right now. That is because they figured out a way to make these records again, and get people to know that they exist. I signed a new deal that was based on that and discard the old deal we had.

Making this record, I had a clear-cut vision of the way I wanted it to sound. The main thing is, I didn’t want to showcase musicians, I wanted the songs to be the star. Sometimes Lizzy Borden seems to be a conduit for amazing guitar players, but I didn’t want to showcase anybody, I wanted the songs to take over and be the star. That was one of my first things when I started recording. Once I started digging down deep to the theme, that was a process. (Laughs) It took me a while to figure out what this record was and where it was going. It was kind of writing itself while I was working on it. It just kind of took shape as I was doing it. I didn’t have all the demos done going into it. I kind of wrote and recorded it at the same time.

lizzy borden band tour

CrypticRock.com – Wow, that is different, but it worked out well. The album retains the classic Lizzy Borden sound and it has its heavier as well many melodic moments. As a songwriter, you have always done a good job of telling a story album to album. What inspired the story/theme behind My Midnight Things ?

Lizzy Borden – I did Deal with The Devil (2000) , which was about religion, and Appointment with Death (2007) , which was about death. I wanted something completely different for this theme, so I chose love. It seems obvious, but I really thought I could dig down deep and find some interesting things in there that would be interesting to pursue and try and write about.

It took me a while to figure out how to write these songs, because when you take a topic like that, the most overused theme of most songs, I really wanted to find out if I could find my own way of doing it. That’s the umbrella over the whole thing. Then I usually create a main character. Once I get the theme and main character, then I can branch out and start bringing the songs to live based on all that.

CrypticRock.com – Very cool. It is fun when there is a story and character, that harks back to the ’70s Glam Rock. Look at David Bowie, he created one of the best characters of all, right?

Lizzy Borden – Yes, Ziggy Stardust is still around to this day, and iconic. That was the blueprint I used to put together Lizzy Borden. It was a combination of David Bowie and even The Tubes’ Fee Waybill, he created characters on stage too. Of course Alice Cooper and KISS, those were all my blueprints. When I created this band, I needed to fuse them all together. I didn’t want to be like any one of them, but I wanted to take elements of each one of them. That is kind of how I created this.

CrypticRock.com – Yes, and Lizzy Borden has stood the test of time. You do have your diehard fans in America too.

Lizzy Borden – Yea, we have a different kind of fan base around the world. Any band that has been around as long as we have, the fan base changes. North America, at the beginning of course, was young kids frantically freaking out and going crazy, but then they eventually got older. Then the dynamic, from the performance and the audience, which is a huge part of what I do, changes. Around the world – all across Europe, Russia, South Korean – all the kids are in their early 20s and younger. It is like 1987 again when we toured everywhere else except for in North America. It’s pretty interesting to see. I almost have to alter the show based on territories I play.

I do feed off that audience and that audience response is such a big part of the way I created this band. I wanted to break down that wall and make the audience become a big part of the show. That was always my main thing. KISS did that, I think The Tubes did it too. I think Cooper and Bowie had that wall up, they wanted it to be a like a movie or something. I really wanted to break that wall down. The audience has changed over the years, but it’s pretty amazing how that all has happened. I am 35 years in and to see the audience get younger…

lizzy borden band tour

CrypticRock.com – That is facanstating. You are right, it is a completely different dynamic around the rest of the world. It seems like, in America, we have not done a very good job of keeping young people engaged with bands. It is not to say it is all the bands’ fault, it is more of the marketing, airplay, etc.

Lizzy Borden – Yea, a lot of it was the Hip Hop and all the other stuff. Kids stopped playing instruments. Instead of going to an Iron Maiden show they were going to a Hip Hop show. That changed the dynamic of that demographic. Once you change that, you have to almost skip a whole generation until the young kids find these bands again. That is what has happened in Europe, the young kids, they are singing my songs, songs that were written before they were born. They are loving it as if it is brand new record from a brand new band.

In North America, I see it changing. Even in Vegas, we went to see Judas Priest and Saxon, they were on 1 stage, and they had some of the newer bands on the other stage, but there were a lot of young kids that were loving Priest and Saxon. I was consciously looking around and seeing that. I can see the trend changing and I am excited about that. If we launch a North American tour, I’m hoping some of those kids will come out too as well. I see the trend changing, and I haven’t seen that in a long time.

CrypticRock.com – It does seem to be changing. Speaking of touring, can we expect some USA dates lined up?

Lizzy Borden – Yes. One of my main things, all we did in the ’80s was play North America. All we did was laps, we would finish one tour, book another one, and do another lap all around The States. It was amazing! It was such a great time, some of the greatest times of my life. I haven’t done a proper US tour in a long time, because the demand and money is better everywhere else. For this album, because it’s been the best reviewed album I have ever had – getting 1o out of 10, 5 out of 5 – I have never had that in my life, it has always been mixed reviews. I am getting such a positive response from this album, so I really want to make sure I do a proper North American tour.

We will start booking, but I wanted the album to come out before I play, because it’s going to be based around this album – we are going to play songs off this album. I want to make sure the album has been out for a while so people get used to the songs. We are already working on a stage production, theatricals, and all the stuff I want to bring to the table on this show. After the album gets down, I will start looking for musicians to do the tour with me. Then we will start looking into what territories we are going to attack first for the My Midnight Things tour.

lizzy borden band tour

CrypticRock.com – That is great news! Hopefully, with the record receiving positive reviews, it will attract more attention for the live shows.

Lizzy Borden – Yea, and the fans don’t even know how much power they have to getting to see us. If they buy the record, they put the 10 bucks down to buy it, it actually opens up that terrority. They don’t realize if they just stream it, they love it, and they don’t buy it, that territory almost gets shut down.

You can kind of look and see who is buying the record and what territory. If a lot of people are buying it in a certain area, there is a good chance the tour is going to come by that area. That is kind of what every band does for the most part. People can download all they want, it’s all good, but at least pay the 10 bucks for the album so I can definitely do a proper tour of North America.

CrypticRock.com – Yes, that is really not too much to ask. With My Midnight Things due out, can we expect new more Lizzy Borden music sooner than later? Or will it be the last for a while?

Lizzy Borden – No, I am so excited to get back into this. I missed this part of it, I got into this to be a recording artist as well as a performer. The last 11 years, I have just been a performer. I signed a 3 album deal and I am already putting the skeleton together for the next album. I have already written a few pieces, kind of know what the theme is going to be. I am excited to put it all together. I imagine, depending on how long this tour lasts, you will see within 1 1/2 or 2 years, you will see the next Lizzy Borden album for sure.

CrypticRock.com – Excellent, a lot of positive things happening!

Lizzy Borden – I wanted to get back on that – you do an album, you prepare to tour, you do the tour, then you come back, and start writing the next record again. That is the cycle I was used to, at one point, we put out 4 records in 14 months. I love that cycle and I am excited to do that again. Now it feels whole.

lizzy borden band tour

Lizzy Borden – Oh yea, for me it’s everything, because I’m a singer as well. I love singing new songs. I love singing the old songs, because I know the reaction I am going to get. To design a whole show around a new album, that is like heaven on earth for me.

CrypticRock.com – Absolutely, it keeps it fresh and a new challenge. My last question for you is regarding films.  CrypticRock.com is a Rock/Metal and Horror news site, so we like to focus on all genres.  Are you fans of Horror films, and, if so, what are some of your favorite Horror films?

Lizzy Borden – Wow, that’s a hard one. (Laughs) I am a Sci-Fi nut! Right now, I am watching Legion , and I find it amazing. In the ’80s, everything that was out there that was Sci-Fi, I loved. Aliens (1986) , Blade Runner (1982), and almost every Sci-Fi movie that was on the darker side, I was a big fan of.

On the Horror side, I grew up on all the Freddy Krueger, Jason, and all those great villains that were so popular and famous back then with amazing backstories. I think that is the best part of any movie. If you just have a Slasher film with backstory, it’s not interesting. When you see the backstory of any well-written character, especially a villain, it’s such an amazing thing. Those are the movies I still gravitate to. If it is just no rhyme or reason, it’s not very interesting to me. When there is a backstory, and you almost feel sorry for the villain, that’s just amazing. There have been so many movies like that.

lizzy borden band tour

CrypticRock.com – Yes, when you speak about the straight-up Slasher, that idea was sort of beaten to death in the late ’70s into the ’80s. There, fortunately, was some amazing Horror flicks that gave compelling stories. Look at 1978’s Halloween , it initially provided a little backstory about Michael Myers, but you felt it, and knew it.

Lizzy Borden – Yes, the first Halloween was barely any hardcore craziness, it was more of a Thriller. That is why people were on the edge of their seat. To this day, it is a genius movie. It was about the stalking rather than the killing. When you did get the pay off, it was even more scary. John Carpenter was so great at witholding all of that and making you stay on the edge of your seat.

Great filmmakers who know how to do that, it’s much better than slash, bang, and boom. I grew up on Hitchcock and he was amazing at that – he was one of my favorites. All of his films, TV shows, had tension, it was more important than just the slash and bang. Those are the movies that I love.

CrypticRock.com – Yes, that tension is something that is irreplaceable. It is what separates a decent Horror flick from a great one.

Lizzy Borden – Yes, and some of that stuff ended up in songs for me. It ended up in just the way I was thinking for the stage show. It was a big part of Heavy Metal in general, but especially a theatrical Rock band.

We were at every movie premiere in Hollywood during that time. We had a great publicist and we were on the red carpet for every big Sci-Fi or Horror movie, anything that happened, we were there. It was an amazing time to have that seep into your mind and it came out in our costumes, it came out in my songwriting. All that stuff filtered through because it was such a huge influence. The early ’80s was very influential with Horror and Sci-Fi movies for me.

"A very enjoybale day in Moscow. We had a very nice and knowledgeable guide Anastasia.(Nastia) She was very passionate about the City and we learnt so much in our brief four hours walk with her! Certainly this walking tour added a lot of value to our Moscow Holiday. A great idea to educate visitors about Russia and Moscow. The group was intimate enough to ask questions and stop for snacks etc..we thoriughly enjoyed it and would highly reccomend it.Carry on doing a great job!"

"I really enjoyed the tour, it was a great experience, very informative and fun. I will definitely tell everybody about that tour, keep it it is a fantastic idea!"

"Sorry I do not remember the names :( ... They were very talkative and very into everything. I think they both really love the city, and they made me feel like this to. They knew much about History, which was very informative! Great guides!!!"

"We partook of the fantastic Petersburg Free Tour. Due to our timing during the low season (shockingly not everyone is flocking to Moscow while the average temperature is 15F), it ended up being just us and Sonia, the afore-mentioned super-guide. She quickly ascertained the limited scope of our wanderings.."

Moscow: City Sightseeing by Car/Bus

Visiting a new city is akin to going on a first date, it is something you will never forget. Many people imagine Moscow as just a bunch of sporadic landmarks: Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum and GUM. There is so much more to this wonderful city than that and even though we only have a few hours, we will do all we can to show you everything we know and love about our capital in one fell swoop. We will take you on a journey through the ages, from centuries ago, right up to the modern day, soaking in the sights of this vast and bustling metropolis. Bright, luxurious and both ancient and modern at the same time, Moscow invites you on a date you’ll never forget!

On our sightseeing bus tour of the city, you will see:

  • The wonderfully historic city centre and its unique museums, magnificent cathedrals, the exquisite Chambers of the Romanov Boyars and of course, the famous towering red brick walls of the Kremlin, The charming beauty of the Alexander Garden awaits the capital's guests - a lush green oasis in the midst of the glass and concrete clad metropolis, basking in the etherial aura emanating from the whitewashed stone walls of the restored Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the world- renowned fairytale onion domes of St. Basil's Cathedral and other impressive monumental buildings such as the library built in Lenin's honour - the Russian State Library - and the State Duma.
  • The Lubyanka KGB headquarters is notorious to members of older generations and although nowadays, the face of the secret police has changed dramatically, the looming enigmatic building on the waterfront maintains its aura of mystery, shrouded in a variety of murky rumours and dark myths. Then, there’s another of Moscow's main attractions - the marvellous Bolshoi Theatre, yew simply cant leave Moscow without taking in its breathtaking architecture. Engrained in the fabric of Russia's cultural heritage, virtuoso performers such as prima ballerina Galina Ulanova, opera singer Feodor Chaliapin and pianist, composer and conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff once stood centre stage of this vaunted institution.
  • The memorial complex on Poklonnaya Hill was constructed in the glory and honour of our heroes who defended our nation in the many crucial battles of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This is a place that embodies a particularly acute and inextricable link between older ancf younger generations. Moving on to the Moscow International Business Centre, not dubbed ‘Moscow City' for nothing, a true glimpse of the future in the present. This incredible, rather jaw-dropping project in the capital has shown that Moscow has come to accept the age of the skyscraper. Finally, the stunning views from the observation deck at Sparrow Hills will leave professional and amateur photographers alike itching to capture them. How could one resist?

The most beautiful of all the world's cities - lady Moscow invites you out on a date!

March 23, 2024 Shooting at Moscow concert venue leaves over 130 dead

By Chris Lau, Andrew Raine , Catherine Nicholls, Issy Ronald, Lauren Said-Moorhouse and Tori B. Powell , CNN

Russian singer offers to pay for funerals and treatments

From CNN's Mia Alberti

Russian singer Shaman said he will pay for the funerals of the victims and treatments of those injured during the terror attack at the venue.

"We are all one big family. And in a family there is no such thing as somebody else's grief," the singer, known for his nationalistic views, said in a video posted on the Russian social media network Vkontakte to his more than 600,000 followers.

"My people, any troubles and misfortunes have always united our country. They have made Russia tougher and stronger. It will not be possible to frighten and break us this time either," he said.

Correction: This story has been updated after an earlier version incorrectly stated that Shaman is a singer in the band Picnic.

At least 60 people died after Moscow's Crocus City hall attack

From CNN's Hande Atay Alam

A woman walks to lay flowers at the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Krasnogorsk, outside Moscow, on Saturday.

At least 60 people died as a result of the terrorist attack in Crocus on Friday, Russia's Investigative Committee said in a report on Saturday.

There were also 145 people sent to hospitals, according to the Moscow Region’s Health Ministry, Russian state media TASS reported.

Russia thwarted several ISIS related incidents in March, state media reports

From CNN's Katharina Krebs

Over the last month, Russia has thwarted several ISIS related incidents in March alone, according to Russia’s state media agency RIA-Novosti.

Below is a list of different reported incidents across Russia that Russian authorities say involved people connected to ISIS, according to RIA:

  • Reported on March 3: "The National Anti-Terrorism Committee reports that six criminals were neutralized during the counter-terrorist operation in the Ingush Karabulak. The identities of those killed have been previously established: they were adherents of the international terrorist organization ISIS."  https://t.me/rian_ru/233807
  • Reported on March 7: "The FSB uncovered a cell of the banned organization Vilayat Khorasan in the Kaluga region, whose members were planning an attack on a synagogue in Moscow. When detained, the terrorists resisted and were neutralized by return fire."  https://t.me/rian_ru/234430
  • Reported on March 20: " Security forces detained the commander of a combat group of the Islamic State terrorist organization banned in Russia, the press service of the FSB Directorate for Moscow and the region said in a statement. • Reported on March 12: "Law enforcement officers in the forest in the Sunzhensky district of Ingushetia found a cache with medicines and food, which, according to them, belonged to the militants liquidated in Karabulak in early March, the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs reported."  https://ria.ru/20240312/karabulak-1932544167.html

US warned Russia after steady stream of intelligence that ISIS-K was determined to attack, source says

From CNN’s Alex Marquardt, Natasha Bertrand and Jennifer Hansler

Ambulances and vehicles of Russian emergency services are seen parked outside the burning Crocus City Hall concert venue outside Moscow on Friday.

Starting in November, there has been a steady stream of intelligence that ISIS-K was determined to attack in Russia, according to two sources familiar with the intelligence.

It was “fairly specific” intelligence, rising to the level of a duty to warn and the US intelligence community did indeed warn Russia, one of the sources said. But it’s not clear if this is directly tied to the March 7 warning by the US embassy in Moscow.

Russian state media  reported  on March 7 that the FSB prevented an ISIS attack on a synagogue in Moscow, according to Reuters. The ISIS attackers were killed in a gunfight, the reports said.

A US official told CNN that the US is working to determine who is culpable for the attack at a Moscow concert venue.

Adrienne Watson, National Security Council spokesperson, issued a statement Friday on the US warning Russia about an attack.

"Earlier this month, the US government had information about a planned terrorist attack in Moscow – potentially targeting large gatherings, to include concerts – which prompted the State Department to issue a public advisory to Americans in Russia. The US Government also shared this information with Russian authorities in accordance with its longstanding ‘duty to warn’ policy."

Macron condemns Moscow terror attack and expresses solidarity with all Russians, Elysee Palace says

From CNN's Jonny Hallam

French President Emmanuel Macron said he "strongly condemns the terrorist attack claimed by the Islamic State" that left at least 40 people dead and more than 100 injured in a Moscow concert hall Friday, according to AFP and Reuters citing the Elysee Palace.

UN Security Council condemns "heinous" terrorist attack in Moscow

From CNN's Richard Roth and Mia Alberti

The United Nations Security Council condemned the "heinous and cowardly" attack at the Crocus concert hall in Krasnogorsk, in Moscow, on Friday, which left 40 dead and more than 140 people injured.

"The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the Russian people, and they wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured," the UNSC said in a statement.

The members of the UNSC urged all States to cooperate with the Russian government to "hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice."

"The members of the Security Council reiterated that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed," it said.

Moscow terror attack leaves 115 people hospitalized, 60 in "serious condition," Russian health minister says

From CNN's Darya Tarasova

Emergency services personnel and servicemen are seen outside the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Krasnogorsk, outside Moscow, on Friday.

Following the deadliest terror attack on Moscow in decades, 115 people have been hospitalized of which 60 are in a "serious condition," according to Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko.

“We hospitalized 115 people, five of them are children. One child is in serious condition,” Murashko said in an early morning statment on Saturday according to Russian state media TASS.

UN chief strongly condemns "terrorist attack" in Russia

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned "in the strongest possible terms today's terrorist attack at a concert hall outside Moscow," according to a statement released by deputy spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Farhan Haq.

"The Secretary-General conveys his deep condolences to the bereaved families and the people and the Government of the Russian Federation. He wishes those injured a speedy recovery," the statement said.

Moscow urgently calls for blood donors to help treat dozens of wounded

Moscow City Duma Chairman Alexey Shaposhnikov late Friday called on Muscovites to come forward and give blood to help treat the dozens of wounded following Russia's deadliest terror attack in decades.

“After today’s tragedy in Crocus, many victims need donor blood. I ask you to donate blood for the wounded! Now this is very important, this is a matter of life and death for dozens of people,” Shaposhnikov said on Telegram

Shaposhnikov listed several blood center facilities in the Moscow area that will accept donors throughout the weekend.
