Traveling the world with your MTN line allows you to keep in touch with family, business, and friends even when you are thousands of miles away from home. Thus, in order to make its customer’s travelling experience a pleasant one, MTN Nigeria decided to introduce an offering called MTN TravelPass plan .

The MTN TravelPass plan is a subscription-based roaming plan which offers unlimited calls, SMS, and 1GB of data to be used across 40+ countries and destinations. With unlimited calling and texting, you can use your MTN line while travelling, as you would at home in Nigeria.

So, whether customers are travelling to the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, or any of the other 41 eligible destinations, MTN will help customers with the best plan to keep them connected to friends, loved ones and business partners.

All new and existing Prepaid and Postpaid customers on the MTN network can subscribe to any of the Travel Pass plans. Customers can subscribe to any Travel Pass plans in Nigeria before traveling OR while roaming abroad.

POINTS TO NOTE

• MTN Travel Pass plans can be purchased for your family and friends irrespective of your location and the beneficiary.
• Subscribers can purchase the same Travel Pass plan multiple times, BUT each of the Travel Pass plans activated will expire separately.
• Subscribers can purchase a combination of different Travel Pass plans, BUT each plan activated will expire separately depending on the validity.
• On exhaustion or expiry of bundle minutes or data, you will be charged from main account or credit limit as applicable.
• You will get a notification when bundle has been used up to 50% and 80% of the subscription and exhaust the plan. Subscribers will also get End of Call Notification which shows the volume of minutes, SMS and Data.
• Customer can rollover unused bundle after expiry IF he buys another bundle within the rollover period; (3days for the 7days bundle and 5days for the 14days bundle. Otherwise, customer will lose the unused bundle.
• Customer can check Travel Pass bundle balance via the use of USSD *556#.

It’s a rip off, don’t bother subscribing to any of these plans. I subscribed to the N5000 7 days unlimited oitgoing calls and text messages, first, the messages wouldn’t go through. Worst was scenario, I made calls of 90 minutes altogether for 3 days and was told I ran out of my travel pass. My advice, if you have any other means of making calls whilst abroad better implore it. MTN TRAVEL PASS IS A RIP OFF

T he fear of incurring an exorbitant bill while travelling internationally will now be a thing of the past for MTN customers following the introduction of affordable roaming bundles for contract, top-up and prepaid customers.

The MTN Hello World roaming data bundles are competitively priced from as little as 29c per MB, discounted from the current standard roaming rate and can be used in 21 countries where MTN has operations in Africa and the Middle East, like Botswana, Swaziland, Nigeria and many more.

“As the world gets smaller, the demand for data roaming continues to grow, however data roaming services can be costly. MTN launches Traveller Bundles for international tourists

While you can roam on your network of choice while travelling, it can get rather expensive. For that reason, MTN has announced the launch of MTN Travellers Bundles for visitors to South Africa.

These bundles are valid for 30 days from activation and present an alternative to travellers looking to stay in touch with friends and family while visiting South Africa.

The bundles are exclusively available for prepaid tourist customers and are available at MTN Stores at OR Tambo International Airport, King Shaka International Airport, and Cape Town International Airport.

To purchase a Traveller Bundle, customers will need to present a valid passport and seat number or flight ticket when purchasing a Bundle Bonanza SIM pack.

The Traveller Bundles available, as well as pricing, follow below.

In terms of pricing, these bundles are slightly cheaper than regular one-month data bundles that non-tourists would purchase from MTN. According to MTN’s pricing, 10GB of regular data costs R499 while 20GB of regular data costs R899. These Traveller bundles are slightly more affordable.

The question was why these bundles are so much more affordable than the bundles locals have to purchase. According to MTN, this is a once-off bundle, and once the data is depleted, tourists will have to purchase a regular bundle for the prices listed above.

The first myth I want to disprove is that getting to Kamchatka is extremely costly. It’s not. Going between February and April, a return flight from Moscow can be had for 11,000 roubles (US$380 / £220). Not bad for 18 hours total flying time. In summer the flights are more expensive but still, if you book them a few months in advance, can be got for 16,000 roubles return.

It’s true, many people will tell you that March and April are the worst months to visit because the snow is starting to melt and everything’s a bit sloshy and dirty in settlements. On the other hand, these are great months for the independent traveller! During winter zimniki (temporary winter roads made of compacted snow or simply frozen river surfaces) open up all over Kamchatka, granting access to communities that in summer are totally isolated. Hitch hiking is possible right from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to the very north of the peninsula. Alternatively, vehicles can be hired in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky from tour firms. Also in the winter or early spring months places can be reached that are away even from the zimniki, either by snowmobile or by the use of cross country skis. For example, Klyuchevskaya Sopka, Eurasia’s largest active volcano, can be accessed from the village of Klyuchi without the need even for a guide by a traveller with a pair of cross country skis. Bears do not wake up until mid-April so this is not a danger, but bears almost never attack anyone anyway.

The main disadvantages of winter travel in Kamchatka are that it is cold, there is no greenery and there are no bears, which some people come here especially to see.

The second myth I’d like to dispel is that travel around the peninsula requires hiring a helicopter. As mentioned above, in winter you can get almost anywhere by hitch hiking. I even hitched a lift with bear hunters on snowmobiles from their village to a reindeer herder encampment 100km away. In summer snowmobiles are replaced by horses, and transport is reduced from long distance ice-road journeys to irregular inter-settlement all-terrain vehicle trips. Hitch hiking is possible on these all-terrain vehicles though.

Throughout the year there are fairly expensive public helicopter flights to all settlements which are nevertheless much cheaper than hiring your own helicopter. There is also one permanent, year-round dirt road leading halfway up the peninsula. Some distance after the town of Milkovo, about 350km north of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky , it forks. The right fork leads to Klyuchi , site of Eurasia’s largest active volcano, and further to the port town of Ust-Kamchatsk. The left fork leads to the indigenous Even villages of Anavgay and Esso. Daily buses go from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to Klyuchi , Anavgay and Esso, costing about 1000 roubles each way. In winter a zimnik passable by lorries heads north from Anavgay 36 hours to the otherwise isolated town of Palana. From Palana more zimniki head further north to yet more isolated settlements. From the peninsula’s very northernmost settlements there are even EXTREMELY irregular snowmobile and all-terrain vehicle connections with Magadan Oblast and Chukotka. Another zimnik, only passable by all-terrain vehicle, heads from Anavgay to the village of Ust-Khayryuzovo on Kamchatka’s west coast.
